1. 5 Minutes left in class?
Need a quick activity to utilize all of your class
time?
2. It’s a Match!
—Write 5 vocabulary words on the board.
—Randomly hand out the definition written on a
piece of construction paper with tape
or magnets on the back to students.
—Have students place that definition under the word
on the board.
—Write 5 more words on the board & repeat.
Have this ready and you can reuse it multiple
times throughout the semester to review key vocabulary words.
You might even add an extra word each week!
3. Quick Draw
Have a 6-10 index cards ready with
key vocabulary words already written on them…
— Split the classinto two. Select one student from each
group to come to the board.
— Give each student an index card containing different
vocabulary words. They may look at it for 10 seconds
and then they have to put it down.
— Each student must draw a representation of their
vocabulary word.
— The team to guess their word, wins a point!!
— New drawers with each new word.
4. Synonym Catch
Throw a Koosh ball to your students;
whoever catches it must provide a
synonym of any vocabulary word you
point to/say aloud.
5. A Wordy Conversation
— Have students pair up.
— Provide a vocabulary word for each pair.
— Student A begins by using the word in a sentence.
— Student B responds using a synonym of the word.
— Student A responds using an antonym.
Example:
Student A- You are very articulate when you speak.
Student B- I try to be very clear with my comments.
Student A- Unlike you, I can be too vague sometimes.
