2. INTRODUCTION
In early time the status of women was
inferior to man. To overcome this problem
the social welfare department has stepped
forward to take initiatives for the welfare of
women.
Women welfare is a social welfare
program which seeks to promote the
wellbeing of women by giving special
attention to those women who suffered
from physical, verbal, economic, or social
abuse and many more problems.

Case workers are the social workers who watch
over the welfare of the underprivileged individuals
and families at risk, by counselling and providing
assistance to them . The case worker who work
for women’s welfare provide direct support and
care for vulnerable women by giving psychological
support and case management . The case
management services include basic couselling
and psychological support assessment of needs
and resources ,developing safety and action
plans etc.

Social case workers commonly involved in
the delivery of women’s health care ,
including maternal , mental and behavioral
healthcare services, and sexual and
reproductive health care, including the care
and prevention of HIV or AIDS and other
sexually transmitted diseases.
7. COUNSELLING
Provision of opportunities for women and to
resolve their own problems of relationships by
identifying their strengths and weaknesses
towards more effective social functioning.
8. SUBSTITUTE HOME CARE
Provision of temporary shelter or residential
care or group homes to women while working
for their eventual return to their families.
9. GENDER DISCRIMINATION
Social case worker can reduce gender
inequalities by facilitating women to have
access to formal education . Social case
worker can also enhance the capacity of
women through empowerment programs that
work against them.
10. ADVOCACY
Social workers are particularly
concerned for those who
vulnerable or unable to speak up
for themselves. Successful
advocacy involves informing
women their rights and how to
exercise them for their benefit ,
which allows clients to influence
decisions that will directly affect
them.
11. EDUCATOR
Social workers are often involved in teaching
women about resources and various
government policy works for women
empowerment and welfare.

“Women’’ the entire world is dependent on them
for its existence. Women who is called as
“JANANI’ in vedas , means birth giver. India has
largest number of professionally qualified
women and also largest population of working
in the world. Central government has brought
various schemes and policy for women welfare.
As a social worker we can work in social
empowerment of women , psychological reforms
of the people’s general mind set and awareness
among people about women rights.
