The bat chastised the dove for not praising their generous host, the owl, who had provided them shelter. The ungrateful dove did not deserve such hospitality. The owl agreed and drove the dove out into the stormy night along with the bat. However, the owl and bat were not left unpunished for their cruelty - the bat can only fly at night and the owl is blind in the day, so they live in darkness. In contrast, the dove was rewarded for her truthfulness, with her name to be used in poetry to rhyme with "love" for all time.
