• Her animosity, or hatred, of her sister had

meaning.
Example:
• Although some men are loquacious, others
hardly talk at all.
• Marty is gregarious, not like his brother who
is quiet and shy.
• She is a famous singing star in her country but
unknown to the rest of the world.
15. 3. Explanation – the unfamiliar word is explained
within the sentence or in a sentence immediately
preceding.
Example:
• The patient is somnolent that she requires
medication to help her stay awake for more
than a short time.
• He winced in pain when he hit his thumb with
the hammer.
• His constant questioning of my remarks made
him a nuisance.

define the term.
Example:
• Celestial bodies, such as the sun, moon and
stars, are governed by predictable laws.
• Constellations, such as The Little Dipper and
The Big Dipper, can be seen in the night sky.
• Our class visited the museum on a field trip. We
saw many artifacts. The museum had pottery,
art, and statues from many old places.
