Both of my main products and the ancillary text is effective in the sense that the typography and the
house style font being ‘Felix Tilting’ is consistent throughout it all as well as the use of using the
colour effect monochrome in relation to my music video.

Within the main print products, my group and I ensured that we re-used certain elements that were
used in the music video, like for example the use of monochrome and the artist wearing dark make-
up around her eyes to describe her mood and her pain. My group and I ensured that we reinforced
the importance of her styling and her presence as an artist as very alternative, whose music can
relate to a mass audience. This is similar to the importance of Adele’s ‘Someone Like You’ single
artwork where her styling represents the type of artist that she is, especially through the lyrics of the
song. (SHOW ADELE) Again, it was important that her style in the music video and her style in each
of the print products reflected each other effectively, as well as it remaining consistent, following
the codes and conventions of real life existing print products especially in the music genre of indie
pop.

It is clear the main product and ancillary text are consistent; we’ve made sure that the effect
monochrome is evidently shown throughout. Our aim was to create a mysterious look and I am
certain that my group and I have achieved that aim. We demonstrate the sense of mystery also
through the narrative of the video. Our audience is not completely sure what is happening in the
video or why the artist is doing certain things. (Monochrome in the song and images)

Just as it is common in many print products and ancillary texts, my group and I made sure that the
choice in typography (font) was consistent. We had noticed that many artists today make sure that
everything in their media product has consistency. I have personally seen this within each song that
has been officially released on Adele’s ‘21’ album. We demonstrate this style of consistency with
the font on the front cover, actual CD, back cover and promotional advert.
It was necessary that we inserted some sort of colour in the font, the colour being dark red to
connote both lost (death) and love. This is so that the audience understand the subject of the
narrative occurring in both the song and the music video.

Collectively my group and I decided to stick to the effect of black and white (although there are
some elements/scenes which are in colour), this idea was chosen for the motive that black and
white is an effect that encourages the audience to continue watching the music video and draw their
attention to the promotional advert. On the other hand, the purpose of using colour was to show
the flashback and demonstrate the happy moment/scenes that the artist once shared with her lover
in the song.

It was vital that I created several case studies which consisted of me researching several artist
album/single artwork as well as promotional adverts; artists such as the likes of Ed Sheeran and
Adele who use several codes and conventions within their artwork in order to create continuity and
relation to their style in music and most important their music video.

If the song ‘Dark Paradise’ by Lana Del Rey was to be marketed in the real world, I believe that the
song will best fit being featured on radio stations in which draw the attention of those who are
supporters of either indie or pop or maybe even both genres; radio stations such as NME radio and
Urban Rival who mostly play songs from the genre (Indie Pop). In order to get a wider audience and
more interest, I believe that it would be a good idea to widen the audience to the listeners of
popular radio stations who major in popular music and a variety of genres, radio stations such as
KISS 100 and Capital FM who play music by the likes of Rihanna, Wiley and Kanye West who each
create music in different genres of music.

The social media (internet) has become very significant. It is something that can be accessed at any
time through mobile phones, tablets and desktops. In this case, it would be easier for our audience
to watch the music video online on Youtube and VEVO. These social viewing sites can assist market
the single and bring in a wider audience as well as help advertise the song on their site to millions of
daily viewers.

Due to the fact that Indie Pop music is also a culture, I think that advertising the single using
promotional adverts placed in the many areas of London would be most effect. London is a city in
which is rather busy, filled with hundreds and thousands or people. This will draw their attention
seeing as the image used on the promotional advert uses a close up shot of the artist looking directly
into the camera, creating artist and audience relationship.
