Question 1
1. QUESTION 1: IN WHAT WAY
DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCTS
USE, DEVELOP OF CHALLENGE
CONVENTIONS OF REAL
MEDIA PRODUCTS?
KONSTANCJA SZWED
2. DEVELOPING REAL
MEDIA PRODUCTS.
In the book ‘Experiencing Music Video, aesthetics
and culture context’ by Carol Vernallis. The author on
page 4 talks about from narrative and non-narrative.
Stating that as a short form with few words, a music
video must fur fill competing demands of showcasing
the star, reflecting the lyrics , and underscoring the
music. If a director wishes to insert a narrative within
such confines, she must employ certain techniques
and devices. She than later talks about the
Aerosmith's “crazy” music video, looking back at our
own music video we did not use prop devices that
link back like the beginning car rides of Aerosmith
music video. However in our music video we chose a
link to the narrative far more to the lyrics which
narrate the imagery the audience sees on the screen.
3. MAIN IDEAS FOLLOWED
IN THE MUSIC VIDEO,
CAMERA WORK.
The music video was a very close focus
on the original artist and their work, with
the main artist however having clear links
to other similar genre bands like you me
at six and the neighbourhood with the
use of black and white filter and greater
focus on the singer however also screen
time for other members. These bands
commonly like to be shot singularly with
a focus on particular moments. The
original music video inspired the camera
work through the soft movement and
close up focusing greatly on the
instruments as it usually works around it
with strong close ups and the use of
medium close ups.
In the original the each
musician isolated
from one another.
4. MAIN IDEAS FOLLOWED
IN THE MUSIC VIDEO,
EDITING.
The editing inspired by both the original
and room to breathe by you me at six. In
the original the use of the city being
illustrated during the chorus. This
imagery is edited in connection to the
lyrics to create a form of narration.
5. MAIN IDEAS FOLLOWED IN THE
MUSIC VIDEO, VISUAL STYLE .
We followed the original visual style of The 1975 with very messy and laid
back style and basic ‘grunge clothes’ to link back to the indie genre.
The minimal background I also transferred onto our work, and the singer
having the most shot variation out of the whole band.
6. HOW CONVENTIONAL IS YOUR
DIGIPAK AND WHICH DID YOU
CHOSE TO YOU ?
The digipak follows the indie convention with
the minimal and faded colour. This use of
more symbolic things like the circle or the
original use of the rectangle this allows the
digipak to live on in contrast to pop genre will
commonly use the current trends and fashion
which are likely to ware away in contrast to
the symbols like the circle which is much
more generic also the use of black and white
which has never grown old allowing the artist
to live further on than present trending.
This links back to how indie has the greater
focus on the music with indie music
commonly releasing a follow up in vinyl
follow up which has been done by the
original band.
7. HOW CONVENTIONAL IS YOUR
WEBSITE AND WHICH DID YOU
CHOSE TO USE ?
The website like the digipak follows
the basic and simplistic theme which
also follows the convention of the
indie theme which links to the greater
focus on the music in contrast to the
image of the band. This links back to
musical events and gallery of
photography of live events. The use of
social media is also key however there
is a far smaller focus on social media
like spotify because the convention of
a indie genre is to rather purchuse the
physical copy or even a vinyl.
