2. THE HEDGEHOG
ANIMAL: Hedgehog.
LIVES IN: Europe, Asia, Africa and New Zeland.
EATING HABITS: It is an omnivorous animal. This means that it eats any
tipe of food, from toads, small snakes and bird eggs to mushrooms, grass
roots and berries.
SLEEPING HABITS: It sleeps during the day and is active at night.
INTERESTING FACTS: In some places, such as in New Zeland, hedgehogs
are invasive especies, which means that they weren’t native from there,
they were introduced by us.
4. THE LATXA SHEEP
The “latxa sheep” is one of the most representative animals of the Basque
Country. It is a breed of domesic sheeps native from here. Their milk is
used to produce one of the most famous cheese of the Basque Country:
the Idiazabal cheese.
It is a small sheep with long and coarse wool. In fact, the “latxa” name
refers to the quality of its wool.
There are also this type of sheeps in the USA (even if they aren’t native
from there) because many Basque shepherds went there with their farm
animals, including this.
6. THE IBERIAN LYNX
The Iberian Lynx is a representative animal of Spain, and it is also an
endangered specie. Before, it lived over all the iberian peninsula, but now,
because of the ilegal hunting, it’s habitat is very restricted to the south of
the Iberian Peninsula.
The Iberian Lynx is an animal from the cat family, and it lenghts about
110 cm from the head to the end of the body, plus a short tail of about
12 cm.
It is carnivorous, and it hunts its own food. In fact, it has evolved to
become a specialist hunter of small animals.
