Cosmopolitans target audience facts
• The largest demographic for Cosmopolitan is women aged 18-34
years. Which is their target audience.
• The average age of a Cosmopolitan reader is 31 years old, so the 31-
year-olds are the biggest readers of this magazine.
• 45% of their readers are single which could be to do with a lot of the
content on cosmopolitan magazines.
• Over 65% of Cosmo readers are employed.
Cosmo audience fact's part 2
• Cosmopolitan readers spend around 75 minutes (on average) reading
their magazines. According to the editor of cosmopolitan, Farrah Storr, The
magazines aim is to find a “magazine that entertains,enriches
and empathises with what young women are going through on their
journey to be the best.” And this being said the audience is targeted at
young/ middle aged females (partially niche). Also according to the editor,
“It’s easy to navigate with section openers, from things you need to know
at the startof your day, tips to keep healthy throughout the day, your latest
career advice, to showing you the latestfashion and beauty trends for
maybe a lunch shopping break and ending with inspirational lifestyle and
relationship stories that you can end up the day with.”
• This is why the magazine appeals to such a large ranging audience of
females.
My target audience
• My target audience clashes with cosmopolitan but is not the same. It is
females aged 16-25.
• There are therefore some things I have changed about my magazine cover
to ensure it appeals to my set target audience for example:
• Younger models on the front cover
• Stories which are slightly more age appropriate
• However I still used many of the codes and conventions present in
cosmopolitan magazine/contents page because in many
ways cosmopolitan does attracta young audience because the product
itself is colourful/aesthetic to look at with colour schemes and fancy fonts
and attractivemodels etc.
16-25 Females
My target audienceis teen females 16-25 this
is a niche audiencewhose popularmagazines
all feature people (typicallycelebs) on the
front page, the coloursare often bright and co-
ordinated,and font is big.
I have displayedthis on my cover by using
two young models (as celebs) on my covers
with a story on both and their names
featured at the top like most cosmopolitan
magazines. I also used colourschemes like
how cosmopolitanuse theirs with fancy
fonts to make the cover look appealingto
the young audience.
16-25 interests
• In females the interests related with this age group is often things like
beauty, fashion celebrities and sexual content.
• This is what is featured in cosmopolitan cover stories and also on my
magazine covers.
• Even though the average reader of cosmo is 31, I have altered my
magazine cover and website to attract younger audience by using
younger models and stories aimed at my target audience.
