2. Colour: The school scheme used white,
orange and blue. All these colours used are
all similar to the colours used in every other
top of the pops magazine so that the readers
of top of the pops magazines can recognize
this contents page without seeing the title to
the magazine.
Sub-headings: Each subheading is in every
issue of top of the pops magazine so that the
regular readers will be aware of the different
sections on there contents pages. This
makes the content page very structured and
easy to locate the sections that the readers
wants to read about which is very beneficial
to the young target audience of top of the
pops music magazine.
Page number: The page numbers are
really big compared to the size of the
text next to it. This is to ensure that the
readers can see it clearly and are able
to locate the pages correctly. It is also in
white with a black circled background
which makes the page numbers stand
out against the rest of the text around it.
Masthead: The masthead of this contents
page ‘inside your mag’ is in bright and bold
text so that it attracts readers to read this
contents page. Also as they have used ‘mag’
instead of magazine highlights that this
magazine is targeted to a younger age group
as this will be easier for them to read and
looks more informal which will attract more
younger readers.
Pug: The pug is in black and blue which are stereotypically boys colours.
The text in the pug is represented through the colour scheme of the
magazine (white). It is placed in the middle third at the top of the contents
page which makes it eye catching.
Competition: The win and offers in the
middle of the contents page contents that it
will have a main focus on as it is place d in
the centre where most people look first,
increasing their number of readers. Also as
they have a range of prizes this will
automatically drag the reader into wanting
to buy this magazine.
Subsidiary images: These are the
smaller images around the contents
page so if the reader reading this
magazine does not like the main image
there is a chance they might the other
smaller images so that they still like the
magazine and buy it.
Editors letter: These letters are usually
used on contents pages to inform the
reader on what is in the magazine. This
created a personal relationship making
it feel intimate. The target audience is
highlighted there also as the editor letter
address the audience with ‘hey girls’.
The typography of ‘hey girls’ and ‘love
Claire x’ id curly, looks girly and stylish.
The letter mentions many boy bands
and artists as this will be very popular
with girls and attract more readers.
The majority of the white in the
background and texts creates simplicity
and balances the busyness of text and
images, gives the page a break and
looks more professional. Also the white
links nicely in with the other colours used
not causing any colour clashes.
