How does our film represent certain characters?
 There are four main character that feature in our storyline which have main focus on
the film
 Liam Smith
 Alec Dingle
 Diane Smith
 Nina Smith
 Liam is from a middle class upbringing and grew up in a close family and was brought up by his
Mother after his Father died when he was a young child. However that has driven him to be the
best person that he can be.
 Liam was wearing a white T-Shirt which can contate the goodness in him as he was a hardworking
for the charity that he was working for. This is shown as he tries to improve people lives by
creating events that will raise money for a new community centre which will help the area that he
lives in.
 Liam as a character follows the sterotype of the victim as he is the typical good person that is
hardworking and selfless in helping others. Which then leads him to be killed for no reason. Which
can give the question to the audience on why is always the good characters that get the worst
treatment.
 Liam character is very similar to Elise Rainier from the insidious series.
 Elise Rainier is a physic who is using her skill for good and trying to help people including a family that are
trying to diminish evil spirts. Which could be seen as similar to Liam who is a charity worker that is helping his
community.
 Also the ending for both characters are the same as they end up dead, which has the message that doing the
right thing, ends up been in death.
 The clothes that they wear can back up there personality and what they connate for example Liam wearing
white shows that he got goodness and innonence. Then Elisie who wears a light blue colour can connate of
trust and faith which shows that they are both very positive people.
 Alec Dingle is the killer in our film who kills rival charity worker Liam and will later kill more.
 Alec has a working class background, as a child he was abaooned as a young child by both of his
parents which lead to Alec having to stay in a care home for all of his childhood.
 Alec look is very distinctive as he wears a long trench coat which can add to the character the
mysterious that can be shown.
 Alec is typical sterotype of a murderer because he has firstly had a poor background with also
been builled and is trying to do good by working for a charity but has a deeper story. But also
stands out a bit as well as he is shown as murdering is the releasing of tenision and by doing his
first murder this could encourage himself to do more.
 Alec character is very similar to a charcter from M (1931) which is called Hans Beckert.
 This character is a murderer in the film and like Alec they have a very similar in the way they dress. Also in
characteristics they are very similar as in “M” Hans character wisthles everytime that he is going to
murder. As Alec hums when he is going to murder.
 The screenshots below show the two characters who look very similar with the trench style coat. This can
show them to be hiding something with can show that they are mysterious. Also these style coats can
imply that they are hiding something e.g. weapon.
 Diane is the mother of Liam the victim
 Diane has a middle class background and had a very good upbringing with a close family. This
has followed as know she is a secondary school teacher.
 Diane is wearing black leggings and a jumper which can be shown a typical outfit for a full time
worker and mother. This is an easy outfit to wear which she will be always running errands, while
also planning lessons.
 Diane is a stereotypical victim mother as she is very distressed and distraught when she finds out
the death of her son.
 Diane character is similar to Abigail Salmon from the 2009 film The Lovely Bones as the stories
of the two are very similar.
 The child of Abigail is murdered by there neighbour when she is young child. Which relates to
Diane as she has lost a child while he was younger.
 There are two screenshots of medium close ups of their reactions to the news. They both show
the stereotype reactions looking very distressed.
 Nina Smith is the sister of the victim Liam
 Nina has a middle class background like her brother Liam and also had the heartbreak of losing
her Dad when she was 2 years old.
 She is a very socialable and outgoing person like her brother and has her own youtube channel
where she vlogs about her day.
 Nina is dressed in the film wearing gym leggings and a jumper which is to show that she like
taking part in fitness classes.
 Nina is a stereotype of a typical sister in the crime horror genre as she is there as the person who
offers support and try to do what she can do for her mother.
NINA SMITH - IN COMPARISON WITH
CHARACTERS IN OTHER FILMS
 Nina character is very similar to Margaret Hodgson from the 2016 film The Conjuring 2
where she is playing the supporting character that help with her mother coping with the
stress of the issues of her sister. This is very similar to our film as the sister role is very much
the support for the parent. It also shows the character to be very strong when having to deal
with this devastating news.
 The two characters show how they are deep emotion about what is happening and having
to deal with. Nina is shown caring for her mother after seeing the devesting news of her son
murder.
