A. Woman in the Ruins
Woman in the Ruins was a film directed by Mr.Keith Sicat. It is all about the island that is rumored to have a curse and the woman in the ruins itself named Maria which is 7 years missing and miraculously came back after that long period of time to the island. She was found out in the seashore by the only educated character in the story named “Sol” and returned her to his husband named “Pasyon”. After she was found, she suffers maltreatment from his husband and had lived desperately in the island. In spite of that, she was given a lot of care by her friend named “Isabel” together with her mother.
The first scene in the film that had caught my attention is the scene when Pasyon expected that Maria was dead. This is a proof of the Expectancy Violation Theory because Pasyon was wrong in his expectations.
The second scenario in the movie is when Sol and Olga is having a conversation about the cursed island. They are pretending that Maria is not cursed but rather the cursed are the other people living in the island and the island itself. This is an example for the Attribution Theory.
The third scenario is when Olga commanded her daughter Sabel to help Maria to regain her lost memory by familiarizing some place and asking everything in the island’s past and even to her past about being Pasyon’s wife. In this case, Sabel is trying to break the case of uncertainly or the barrier with Maria by asking questions and helping Maria to do household chores. Maria and Sabel became friends in this scene so the theory that fits this scene is the Uncertainly Reduction Theory because Sabel is trying to break the uncertainly.
B. Shift
Shift is a film directed by Siege Ledesma. It is all about the love story of two call center agent; Trevor, a male bisexual and Estella, a girl who fell in love to this male bisexual friend. This film was entitled “shift” because of the identity and the practice of the call center agents on having time shifts in their work.
2. The first scene that I can relate to a theory is the closeness of Trevor and Estella, they always have fun eating outside, working together, chatting and telling their life stories to each other. Because of these happenings, they became close. This is an example for the Social Penetration Theory. This theory by Altman and Taylor states that we are likely to self-disclosure if we are spending our times together to other people usually.
The second scene is when Estella thinks that Trevor will also give back the love that she had. She expected a love from opposite sex or to become a couple but I until end, they remain as friends or even broken their friendship and didn’t become couple. This is an example of Expectation Violation Theory.
The last scene that I can relate to a theory is the scene when Trevor is deeply in love with another guy and he was to give little attention to Estella. When the time comes that Estella shows different to him, he ask Estella if there is something wrong, Estella just say that she is just busy. She hide in herself the true feelings that she has when times that Trevor is asking her for her problems. The theory under this is the Interpersonal Deception Theory.
C. Blue Bustamante
This is a film directed by Miko Livelo. It is all about family relationship, hardwork, sacrifices and workers who choose to have a work in Japan because of their personal reasons. The man named George is staying in Japan to work because of the purpose of preparing and making hard work for his family in the Philippines and Roger who purposely work only in Japan just to not have the time to take care of his grandmother.
The first scene in the movie that I can relate to a theory is when Roger offers and persuades George to take the job of being a stuntman in the program entitled “Force Five”. When the time that Roger is persuading him to take this job, George is in the situation that he is having a hard time to find a new job. George is thinking if he will get the job or not. Roger, used his central route because he mind that George needs the job for him to support his family in the Philippines and it was a decision to him to offer the job to George and it shows a mature decision. George uses his peripheral route because he grab the work immediately because of having a hard time on finding a job.
The second scene is when the sons and daughters of the main characters are bullied in school because they have no father in the Philippines. The bully classmates get their baon and make bad things to them. Instead of crying out for what is happen, the son told his friends to watch their favorite movie and ignore the bully classmates. For me it is a Reinforcement Theory because in Reinforcement Theory, the attitude will change result from an opinion like the son, the opinion of the bullies that he has no father makes his attitude to gain a strong attitude to ignore them.
3. The third scene is when George met a beautiful Japanese girl stalker. He fell in love with her and find out that the Japanese girl is already married. He expected that they have chances to be happy and build a good family. This will fall under Expectation Violation Theory.

A. Ganito Kami Noon, Paano Kayo Ngayon?
This is a film all about a man in the province who wants to test his fate in the heart of a city. In the time setting of the film, it is most likely when the era of Spaniards came to the country and the “uso” term for the Filipinos are “indyo” which means idiot. The main character in this film is “Kulas” or Nicolas Ocampo who lives in the province without the taste of being rich but becomes rich in the city because of helping a Spanish friar named Padre Gil Corcuera. Because of his uneducated mind, many people take that as an opportunity to abuse him and make as an advantage to him. The people he hired to serve him cheated him including his fiancé and trusted maid. Even though he was in the circle of cheaters, he found a good Chinese friend named Lim that was raised in the Philippines. He help Kulas to his life and protect him and his family to people with bad intentions to him and his family. Kulas also helped a boy named Bindoy and convinced him to go to school to become educated.
The movie represented the Filipino people to be imperfect. In spite of these imperfections, the Filipino people that Kulas portrayed is a good hearted Filipino and proving that Filipino’s are helpful and adventurous. The other characters like the maid and fiancé is like the culture of the Filipino’s or the mentality called “crab” because they abuse and cheated Kulas for them to gain wealth. They want to make Kulas down for them to go up by means of cheating. It is also portrayed in the film the mindset of the Filipinos to become successful by any means, either in bad idea or good. In our time today, the Filipino attitude and culture when it comes on making time to gain wealth is not changing.
One of the theory that this movie represent is the Elaboration Likelihood Model. It is because many characters especially Kulas is making use of their central route and peripheral route. Kulas is an adventurous man and think that he will be successful in the city. He taught that he can gain wealth in the city by means of finding a good standing there because the city is so rich. The peripheral route is when he decides to hire the people that will serve him and help him in his daily living. He hired them without thinking of their background. Also by choosing a couple, he chose Matilde to be his wife in the future without thinking the true feelings of the woman to him. He decided to marry her because only that he loves her.
4. To think that Filipinos here in the film are well defined. I have my own definition of a Filipino after watching the film. A Filipino is a wall of freedom. The wall that many people can make it beautiful by means of putting a good paint in it. And because it is called a “wall of freedom”, people also can do awful things in the wall, vandalism and even a comfort room for men but still it is a wall, a wall is strong, even when heavy rains, heat and many struggles. It stands to protect something like Filipinos who face many people either good or bad waiting for good opportunities to make the people he protects safe.
