Hamster Research Paper
I want you to imagine you are in a pet store. You turn the corner to the small animal section and you
see something that catches your eye. This little creature is nibbling at his cage trying to get out, he
reminds you of Houdini. This creature is black, plump and pocket sized. This animal is a hamster!
Hammy History The hamster trend first started in 1930 but they were not always in your five year
old brothers bedroom. The first discovery of hamsters date all the way back to 1797, a man named
Alexander Russell was first to mention hamsters. Thanks to Israel Aharoni the hamster breed was
originated. Israel is a zoologist who lead a quest to discover syrian hamsters in Aleppo,Syria, he

Hamsters are the most common animals kept as pets because of their easy tempers and care routines,
like any animal there are pros and cons to owning one as a pet. If you are looking to purchase a baby
hamster the road will be a little bumpy. Hamsters are born blind and very weak, hamsters rely on
their mother for two weeks, because of this hamsters grow at a slower rate. Hamsters are crepuscular
which means they are most active during the twilight hours which may be a problem for young
hamsters owners. This would be a problem because hamsters are very active and loud which may
disrupt your sleep schedule. A simple solution would be to move your hamster out of your bedroom.
Because hamsters are so active they need lots of attention, if you don't give your hamster enough
attention they can chew the wires of their cage resulting in teeth or health problems. Hamsters are a
very delicate animal and they need to seek immediate medical attention if they get sick. A very
common problem is obesity which can cause heart problems and may possibly cause a broken or
fractured toe from the amount of pressure on the foot. One solution would be to feed your hamster
less fatty food like sunflower seeds and seed mixes instead, feed your hamster high protein and
calcium in order to keep your hamster

Investigating The Memory Of Hamsters
1. Introduction
In this research task I will be handling the memory of hamsters. Originally I wanted to use mice for
this task but I found that hamsters show signs of intelligence which brought my research to their
species. All of my literature refers to mice but as both mice and hamsters are from the rodent family
there will not be too much variation. My aim is to research whether hamsters rely on their memory
to reach the end of the maze. Through my literature review one can see research done through mice
to help find solutions to a variance in mental health issues. I chose hamsters as they are not used
frequently in research. There may be objections to my use of hamsters as it may be seen as animal
cruelty but I will not harm the hamsters in any way.
I will build a maze that is beneficial to my research but will not be too easy or too hard for the mice
to complete. I will then deprive the hamsters of food for four hours to ensure that they will seek out
the reward. Once I have carried out my experiment multiple times I will be able to draw conclusions
and discern whether my aim and hypothesis is relevant.
2. Review of Literature
During my research I have found that a large part of my literature deals with the memory of mice.
Though this does not apply directly to me research, as I will be using hamsters, it will still help me
refine my experiment. Studies mostly circle around mental health issues and finding solutions to
these problems. These sources will aid me in

Have you ever wanted a kid friendly class pet? Have you ever not known want pet to get? Well I
have the perfect pets in mind such as a hamster, platy fish, and a turtle. The reason I feel these pets
are great for a classroom is because they don't bite, aren't poisonous, and aren't loud. Also these pets
don't have to be with someone over the weekend.
To start, a hamster is a great class pet. Their diet is super simple and cheap, and consists of carrots,
broccoli, or any vegetable. Also hamsters live in a small cage that is great for carrying cleaning, and
preventing hands getting to the hamster. The hamster sleeps soundly in his cage, and can get lots of
activity by his treadmill wheel. Just for safety make sure the cage stays locked, and did you know
there are twenty five species of hamsters? Since there are so many species of hamsters, you can have
a wide variety. Personally, I feel hamsters would be great class pets because they aren't distracting,
deadly, or poisonous. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This particular fish eats regular fish food and even dried worms. The platy fish also lives in a safe
fish tank where it gets all of its sleep and exercise. Fish usually get their exercise by swimming, so
you won't need to provide an additional feature. Just in case I would put a lid on top of the tank to
keep small hands from grabbing hold of the fish. An interesting fact is some platy fish have a black
shaped mickey mouse head on the body, and you can't get any better than that for first graders. This
would be a great class pet because it is extremely quiet, easy to manage, and they are safer than
almost any

Exogenous Kisspeptin Varies

Kisspeptin Varies According to Sex and Reproductive Condition in Siberian Hamsters. (Phodopus

C. A basic summary of what the experiment tested and the result.
Greives and his group members created an experiment to test the changes in reproductive status of
male and female Siberian hamsters (Phodopus sungorus). This was being regulated by the ability of
changing hypothalamo–pituitary–gonadal (HPG) axis. The relationship between kisspeptin and HPG
was studied base on 2 separated experiments. Experiment 1 was conducted to determine if the broad
ranges of kisspeptin doses matter differently in adult male and females Siberian Hamster. Baseline
blood samples of both male and female hamsters not being injected with kisspeptin were collected
as a control. Two groups of both male and female where tested with the matter of the different days

Informative Essay On Dutch Rabbitss
The Dutch rabbit, is a sweet, fun–loving breed of rabbit. Always ready to explore what's ahead of
them. Very social and friendly around people. Good for children as young as eight years old. I know
from experience, having adopted one myself. Dutch rabbits are indeed, fun–loving, good with the
younger kids and warm up to new owners quite well after a while. So now for the basics, the Dutch
rabbit first originated in Holland, but later came to become more developed in England. Dutch
rabbits are the perfect size only weighing 3.5 to 5.5 pounds maximum. These rabbits have a lifespan
of 5–15 years if they are neutered or spayed. Unspayed Dutch rabbits live about 5–8 years. However
the oldest ever recorded living Dutch rabbit was, 16 years ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

All Dutch rabbits have a white upside down "V"ish shape on their face surrounded by their body
color which could be any of the following: black, blue, brown, yellow, steel grey, and tortoiseshell.
For the Dutch rabbits body, a scarf like strip of white fur usually surrounds their neck area then the
rest of their body is their main body color. The Dutch rabbit like other pets are considered in in their
adult years very early on in their life. A rabbit can be considered an "adult" and be ready to start
breeding, at as young as 6 months. This is likely because their life could end at as young as 5 years.
An average dutch rabbit's lifespan isn't much more than that. Despite it only being about 6 years, as
long as you take good care of these bunnies, they are sure to live a long and healthy life. There are
some requirements for how you should think about before adopting your dutch rabbit. All Dutch
rabbits must live in an area where temperatures won't go over seventy degrees Fahrenheit and won't
go below forty degrees Fahrenheit. Also dutch rabbits, despite some other research you may have
done, Dutch rabbits really shouldn't be fed rabbit pellets past their bunny times (up to six months
old). However if you must feed an adult Dutch pellets, be sure that they are high quality and name

The Case Of Freddy The Hamster
The case of Freddy the hamster has various components, conflicts and codes to consider. To reach
my own conclusion of the case I chose to proceed with the seven steps of decision making.
Typically this case serves to be at a micro level, however with the inclusion of media and personals
that do not belong as the primary characters, this case also looks at macro level theories. Along with
that I explored the empirical and normative approaches as well different perspectives of individuals
based on ethics, morals and practicality. The central focus of this case is the relationship between
Jack and Freddy however there are other issues that I considered to derive at the conclusion that the
solution taken by the school board, of accommodating jack in another classroom, is justified. This
case portrays several power struggles. The micro level perspective focuses on the struggle between
third grade student, Jack, and the classroom pet hamster Freddy. The power struggle undertaken by
Jack's mother, Jane Doe, against Carole Simpson, Jack's teacher, PAC the principle, the school and
community represent the macro perspective of the point of view. There are several facts that I had
considered important during my analysis. For one, this case portrays Doe as an over– involved and
demanding mother. Coming from an upper–class background, she knows how to voice her opinion.
Simpson has experience and is well established within the school. Simpson states that Freddy is an
integral part of

Animals Are Great Pets
Animals are great pets Animals make great pets and people love having pets for many reasons.
There are a variety of animals to choose from to be yours or your family's pet. Nowadays it is rare
seeing someone without a pet or hearing someone talk about them not owning a pet. Everywhere
you go you see people walking their pet(s), bathing them in their front yard, some have their dogs
driving in the front seat with them, etc. Some of the most common pets are dogs, cats, and hamsters.
The first kind being dogs. Dogs are great companions. They are intelligent, loyal to their owner, and
affectionate. Though, they do need more attention than any other pet. They are a bit needier and
need more responsibility. Dogs need to be properly trained so they can be kept inside the house and
so they can behave well with other people. They also need to be walked on a daily basis and fed.
Dogs need more attention because they get sad if they do not get enough attention. They are also
very playful. They will play with you when you want and they will listen to everything you tell
them. They try to understand every word you tell them. Although dogs are a little harder to care for,
they have their benefits. For example, if a person ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

and dogs, make great pets. They are good with children and do not need much attention either.

done with a small cup. When in the cup, they can be scooped out with your hands or be grasped by
the loose skin over the shoulders, behind the neck. To retrain, place the hamster down on a table, the
palm of the hand in placed down over the hamster with the thumb near their head. Excess skin is

Why Do Pets Teach Children
Even though many people would argue that pets are a dangerous thing to have around children, due
to being unpredictable and vicious, also they are dirty and unclean, Pets are a very important in a
child's development because pets teach children responsibility, having daily tasks as simple as
giving the puppy new water, or taking it for a walk, will help children grow into responsible adults,
and Pets help with socialization of a child while they are little so when children have to interact with
each other, they have the skills to do so. There are many reasons a family should raise their child
with an animal, such as responsibility, patience, and compassion.
Children are the love of our lives, so being taught and loved at the same time while being safe is a
very Important thing. Raising your child with a pet(s) is actually extremely beneficial, having a pet,
whether it's a hamster to a dog, they learn patience. Patience is one of the first lessons we learn
while growing up, and is often accompanied by tantrums, time outs and some form of punishments.

A child learns that people have feelings but we all know they are the bluntest creatures ever, not
realizing nor caring until taught to care. Having a pet, whether it's old, young, small or big, can help
a child learn to show affection, or be gentle for something other than mom or dad. In Germany they
observed 6–17–year old's with diagnosed issues such as anorexia, bulimia, autism and more; they
showed better results and further progress than those whom had no interaction with animals.

Short Note On Raising Mice And Rabbits
When I turned 8, my parents bought me and my sister a hamster. We were so excited. I promised
them that we would take a full responsibility for her. We didn't think twice about all the work we
had to do. We were just thrilled about our new family member.
The next day, we began to do some research on how to raise hamsters. First, we went through all
kinds of them and their personalities so that we could pick the best one. We came up with the tiniest,
cutest little hamster. Back then, we didn't know it was a dwarf hamster, the sensitive, annoying kind.
Then, we googled to see which cage and food would be nice for our hamster. The cage we chose
was very expensive. It was a three–floored cage, with an eating room, a bed, ladders, and a ... Show

She looked so lovely and cute in her new shelter. But she refused our hands. After that, we were
hurt. Both physically and emotionally. She bit us.
I put her back inside the cage. This time, instead of moving around, she went directly to the bed: the
only place where we couldn't see her because of the shadow. We knew she wanted to avoid us. Our
mother told us that she was just stressed right now, but that didn't make us feel any better.
The next day, we found a yellowish liquid on the top floor in the corner. We knew right away that
our hamster had peed last night. "She thinks the cage is safe." , I thought. "But why doesn't she think
we are safe to be with?".
We replaced her food every day and cleaned the bath powder whenever we could. She still didn't
seem to like us. We tried to touch her, but in return, she bit us. I gave up. I didn't want her anymore.
I regretted I even bought her in the first place. I hated her, to be honest. But everything changed the
next day.
She wasn't sleeping in her bed. She wasn't rolling in the bathtub. She wasn't running in the wheel.
She wasn't hiding under the sawdust. She was gone. I panicked when I realized the fact that she'd
escaped. But where? At that moment, I heard a soft rustling sound under the refrigerator. "No way.",
I thought. I found a flashlight and I lay down flat on the ground. At first, I couldn't see anything. But
a few minutes later, I finally found her. She was wandering around. She

What You Need to Consider When Buying Large Hamster Cages Hamsters chew everything that

that you can find them in various sizes and shapes. These are just some of the most important things
to keep in mind when looking for large hamster cages. What to Look for in Large Hamster Cages If
you're buying a large hamster cage, make sure that it provides proper ventilation so that your pet
will stay comfortable. Plastic modular cages and aquariums don't provide enough airflow. Wire
cages provide proper ventilation, making them the most popular option among hamster owners.

Small Rodents Make Wonderful Pets Essays
Anyone who has owned one would readily aggree that hamsters, girlbils, and mice provide an owner
with hours of amusement and years of companionship. Rabbits are fabulous for those who are

Guinea pigs are another very popular choice for a small pet. A website dedicated to guinea pigs
boasts on their front page that there is no question that "guinea pigs make excellent pets [and are]
docile, low maintenance, and unbelievably cute."
I strongly beg to differ, unless "docile" means "boring" and "low maintenance" means that you only

A block of wood, on the other hand, has a glorious, rich history. Imagine that your beloved block of
wood was once part of a hardy, eighty–foot–tall tree, who had majestically grown from a tiny acorn
in the dense forrests of Canada! Who would want to be introducing a new pet to their friends and
say "This is Bob and he came from the pet store and well...uhh...that's about it, actually"? The very
thought of it is embarassing. Score one for the block of wood.
If their pathetic past isn't enough to deter a potential owner from getting a guinea pig, next consider
the housing requirements of the creature. Unless planning to allow the guinea pig to rome free in the
house, a sturdy (and expensive) cage will be necessary. An absolute bare minimum of two square
feet of floor space is required, but very often cages offer four or more square feet of space. The
smaller, "starter" cages can cost anywhere from fourty to eighty dollars, and as the space in the cage
increases, so does the price. The cage must be placed with care in a location that is free from direct
sunlight and drafts. Bedding, another requirement for a healthy pet, is also costly and is constantly
needed (Guinea pigs soil their litter very quickly and efficently, but we'll get to that later). In
addition to a cage and bedding, it is also generally a good idea to provide containers for food (hay,

Persuasive Essay About Animals
When I started to volunteer at the Animal Rescue League of Iowa I didn't think very much of it. I
needed volunteer hours and I love animals so I thought it could be fun to go out there and see what I
could do to help. It was also an opportunity for me to hang out with a few friends. At that moment I
didn't know what I was getting myself into. Now I do.
Through the times I have been at the buildings and I have learned that all animals, from the smallest
hamster to our biggest horse, have a story. I decided to take the time learned their stories so I could
know the best way to interact with them all, and I have realized one thing. Not one story means any
less than another. From two cats adopted, then thrown away, to animals left without a reason for the
sudden abandonment, and even rabbits who have disabilities.
I have meet pets who have come from such horrible places and seen so much neglect and horror. No
one living being could blame them if they were scared of people, or even hated them for that matter.
Yet, they do. I have seen the angriest and most untrusting animals blossom from their shell and I got
to meet and get to know who they were, and best of all. I got to see them go to a home they so much
deserve.
And I, have never felt so accomplished in my life.

Children Of The Classroom Benefit Students By Teaching...
Pets in the classroom benefit students by teaching responsibility, boosting self–esteem, and helping

children dream frequently about animals; images and pictures of animals dominate children 's
books; children who keep pets often regard baby–faced animals as siblings; and there appears to
simply be an human attraction to, or at least interest in, non–human animals" (Daly, Suggs 104).

With a class pet children will learn the proper way to handle and care for the pet. Children can learn
the responsibility of taking care of an animal from having a pet in their classroom. Children will
learn what it takes to care for something other than themselves by feeding the pet lunch or cleaning
out the pet`s cage. Children are introduced to the world of animals by having a class pet, especially
if they do not have a pet at home. Students who do not have a pet at home are able to see, touch, and
help take care of one at school. When a student does not have a pet at home, they lose an experience
to be close to a non–human being. Having a pet in their classroom could help them experience new
feelings, gain new abilities, and be able to understand what it is like to take care of something other
than themselves. Math and science can be brought to life with a class pet. The class can learn
multiplication, fractions, time, animal behavior, etc. Pets can also improve a child`s health. Many
have done research relating to the benefits of a person`s health. Children who have pets are less
likely to get sick. Children who have pets are at school more than children who do not. There are
also some negative aspects of keeping a class pet. One of the cons to keeping a class pet is cleaning
up after it. Every pet, no matter how clean it is, needs its cage cleaned once a week. The pet also
needs care over the weekend and over breaks.

What works to sell this game probably isn't going to be its gameplay alone, as the latter parts of this

If a hamster is frightened then it will lie down on its back. You should only pair up dwarf hamsters
together if you plan on getting more than one hamster otherwise the golden hamster or teddy bear
hamster will turn violent against one another. When a hamster grooms itself it means it's secure and
happy with its environment it is in at the moment. If a hamster is standing on its back legs with its
ears up then that means that some noise has caught its attention and they are listening to that noise.
If the hamster is chattering at you then that is a good sign that it wants to be left alone or it's about to
bite you either way you should leave them in their cage. Some natural behavior about hamsters is
that they are natural hoarders and spend a lot of their time making piles of stuff out of the things
they have in their cage. The hamsters that you find in pet stores usually like to segregate their homes.

Write An Essay About Hamster
Once there was a hamster named Curly who had mostly brown hair, but some white hair. He had
two brown eyes, and was about as small as his owner's palm. Curly loved to run around his owner's
house on the first floor! To him everything was humongous the couch, the TV, the kitchen table, and
especially the fridge. Curly loved the fridge. The fridge was his "everything." He loved the fridge
because it had all of is favorite foods inside. He loved soda, yogurt, chocolate milk, and especially
chicken! He loved all these things and seeing them made him even more excited! He always
wondered how he saw them.... It was quite a mystery to the small hamster. This Hamster (Curly)
also love to drink water with his drinks, but he never really payed any attention to the straw when he
drank his water. So one day, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So this is how I will be explaining why the little hamster saw the straw the way he did. The straw is
inside a dense liquid (Curly' drink, water) the light transmitting through the window is transmitting
through his glass cup and scattering off of the straw. After the light scattered off the straw,it slowly
made its way through the dense water, transmitting through the glass and into the hamster's eye.
UNFORTUNATELY some of the light is meeting the hamster's eye before the other light, this makes
the illusion that the straw is broken. This process that I just explained is refraction of light. Now we
remember how the hamster just loves chicken. The hamster hates cold chicken though. He likes it
when it's hot fresh out of the oven. He think it's so specta– Oh right I forgot im supposed to be
telling you how the chicken gets heated up and the hamster sees it. Ok, the hamster's chicken is
heated up in the oven, but howwhy! The chicken is put into the oven and infrared light surrounds the
chicken. Infrared light is very hot, so when the chicken absorbs this light it gets very hot! Just how

Bunny Research Paper
A multitude parents throughout America get their little tots a bunny fro a "practice pet" so they can
learn how to take care of animals, and think it will be a nice little cuddly friend for them to have for
a couple years. Wrong! Bunny rabbits are prey animals, so being picked up or cuddled is almost
always going to terrify them, (but this doesn't mean that they're not affectionate); and a healthy
bunny should live from 8–12 years, not 2 years! But, don't let this scare you; more often cats and
dogs are chosen as a pet, but cats and dogs are not the best for everyone, maybe you don't have time
to walk them every 4 hours, or need a small pet for a smaller home, but don't want your stuff getting

Outdoor bunnies should have an elevated hutch to protect them from animals that may want to eat
them, and they should be let out to walk and play, everyday, while on a harness and leash in your
backyard. But keep in mind, outdoor bunnies are at high risk of getting sick from staying outside in
the winter, so they should be brought inside until the temperatures rise back up to at least 60°, and
even then you should shield them from wind so they don't freeze. Indoor bunnies should be let out to
play too, but only outside if they were introduced to the outdoors when they were young, if not loud
noises or temperatures do have a chance of shocking them into death if they are already adults;
when let out of their out of their hutches in the house, you must make sure there is nothing out that

The Hamster Research Paper
The hamster, a well–known pet by this day. But did it start out that way? No... no the hamster was
rare to most, almost unheard of. So, how exactly did this pet, the hamster, start out? How did it
become so popular? It was in 1946, that a man, named Albert Marsh, won a bet; as the winner of the
bet, he received a Siberian Hamster. Back then, this creature was strange, as it was not common nor
really heard of in America because the creature was native to Syria, and were only sent into America
as testing subjects. But after some thinking, Albert had an idea, or more like a belief: "Hamsters
didn't belong in laboratories, but in the caring hands of children." Consequently, he got a few more
of the miniscule creatures (probably from a lab) and then started breeding them; apparently, as he
later learned, the hamsters are fast breeders! Soon enough, he had a small colony of them. Rather
than breeding an entire army to sell, he wanted to see if the hamsters would be a good seller, so he
only bred a handful at first. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Albert knew that many people would want this animal as a pet; but he couldn't do all this and having

new animals on newspapers to both family as pets and to scientists as testing subjects. Albert Marsh
had just initiated a 'hamster craze'; hamsters started getting sold left and right from stores all across
America. If you ever wondered, how those hamsters, for whomever ordered a hamster from Albert,
arrived to them? Well, as it turns out, they were sent in a coffee cup with a potato inside so the
hamster could nibble on it during its journey to its new owners. Interesting right? Honestly and
undeniably, hamsters appeal cute and playful; this was what mostly likely made them sell so

Benefits Of Having A Pet
Many children want pets. For example, dogs, bunnies, hamsters, etc. A pet for children is not only
fun and enjoyable, but 90% of the children between the ages of 3 and 13 indicated benefits to having
a pet. The main arguments that children give when they want a pet are simple things like, they find it
instructive, joyful, and therapeutic to receive unconditional love from their pet. Children often
experience their animal as someone they trust as a friend, but these are not the only advantages.
Various studies have shown that having a pet is good for children's development. In this paper, I will
give six reasons why having a pet is good for children.
1) Emotional support
In children's lives emotions such as anger, fear, and joy are shared with animals. Children can tell
secrets, and feel at ease with their pets, since the pets can't judge or talk to them. The children
experience much support. An animal may also help the child to feel safe when he or she is in an
unfamiliar situation. It also gives a child a sense of security at home, because a dog watches and will
bark an alarm if there is a dangerous situation. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another study also showed that the self–image of the child when he/she becomes an adult which
will develop later, has to do with the age at which he/she first comes into contact with a pet.
Therefore, children at the ages of six or during their puberty, having contact with a pet during these
ages will have a positive self–image than those who received their first pet between the ages of six
to ten. Kids can even help at an early age with the care of animals. Accomplish tasks for the care of
animals also gives

Interview: Goat–Chasing Dogs to Oddly Named Hamsters ~ Keil Fehlberg ~ 11–28–2016
I sat down to interview my father, soon to find out how intrigued I was about my dad's stories. It
was late at night, about 7:00 PM. I had asked my dad if I could interview him, and he excitedly
accepted.
We sat down on the leather, red couch and I slipped out my interview questions. I decided ahead of
time to write the questions I was going to write about. I chose to ask about his interactions with his
childhood pets, so I then looked him in the eye and asked him.
One of the questions I asked him was "When growing up, what was your first pet you ever
encountered?"My dad's reply was highly entertaining. He explained his story of his first pet. My dad
started out with a brown and white hamster named Felix. His brother had a twin hamster named
Frances. Soon, the hamsters both escaped, so my dad got a new hampster which he named
Kinnikinnick. That hamster also escaped, so my dad got a third hamster called Kinnikinnick 2. Upon
hearing this, I bursted out laughing, I couldn't believe the names that my dad gave them as a child.
My father laughed with me as he continued his story. My dad said that the first family pet was a
Siberian Husky named Chinook

Portia Pig Character Analysis
It isn't often that a rodent teaches a lesson. Nonetheless, Portia the pig taught me some very valuable
ones. Adopting a living animal shows you that you need to grow up some. Besides you, there is
something else you must take care of. There is a lesson of caring and responsibility that comes from
having a pet. Especially if you are the one to buy the new addition to the family, you learn quite a
few things about money. I was blessed to learn these priceless lessons at such a young age. They
really broadened how I viewed money and life. It was a journey of ups and downs, but then again it
was also a journey to growing up. The object of great value to me was my guinea pig, Portia. To get
her, I saved up all my money from birthdays to holidays, from babysitting to finding coins on the
streets. I had always wanted a pet of my own and the only way my parents were letting me get one
was with my own money. They weren't too thrilled when I told them that I wanted a rodent as a pet,
but I convinced them otherwise. My sister, when she was growing up, always had a different pet so
my parents quickly found out how much work they were. We had a dog, but I wanted something for
me to take care of on my own. I had to wait some time to be able to pay for her. The wait was
excruciating, but worth it. It took me a little while to earn the money as her and everything that goes
with having a pet costs quite a bit. The day finally came when we went looking for the right guinea
pig. I

Power Struggle Between The Student Jack And Freddy The...
This case portrays a power struggle between the student Jack and Freddy the hamster. Along with
that we also see the struggle of power between Jack's mother and classroom, teacher, PAC,
principle, school and community. There the key figures involved in this case at a micro level are
Freddy, Jack, Jack's mother, Carole Simpson, the PAC and principle. At the macro level, the groups
that will be influenced heavily due to the consequences of the solution, are the rest of the students
within the original classroom, the school in general and as well as the society.
The facts within this case portray Jack's mother as a over– involved and demanding mother. Being
an upper class woman, she knows how to voice her opinion, if ignored and she uses her resources in
doing so. She is also seen to be a strong opinionated woman with little or none cooperative nature.
The teacher, as claimed by the PAC and her colleagues, is very well established and competent of a
teacher with a lot of experience and history with the school. Freddy the hamster is an integral part of
the learning process for the students in Ms. Simpson's class. Simpson states that Freddy contributes
with "scientific understanding of living organisms" as well as "knowledge of social responsibility".
Freddy, however, is the center of the case as Jack's mother believes him to e the cause of Jack's
allergies. The physician has diagnosed jack's condition as allergies, however "hamster allergy" is
self–diagnosed by Jack's mother.

The Pros And Cons Of Goldfishes
Goldfishes are better than cats, dogs or hamsters as pets for several reasons, according to the For
Birds Only Blog.
They make such great pets because unlike dogs, they do not have to be given their daily walk. They
also do their own exercise swimming inside a tank, making leashes unnecessary.
Another advantage of having goldfishes as pets is that they don't have to be groomed daily like cats
or dogs. This is good news for people who are allergic to cat or dog fur, and for people who cannot
afford to have their dogs or cats groomed once or twice a month.
Goldfishes are also low–maintenance pets compared to other small animals such as hamsters.
Maintaining a hamster as a pet is quite a commitment because their cages have to be cleaned and ...

Goldfishes also have the reputation of having long lives, beaten only by cats who supposedly have
nine lives –– pun intended. They are a perfect match for parents who want to give their children pets
that will last for some time.
Unfortunately, there are some stereotypical misconceptions unjustly served to the goldfish,
according to the goldfishlifespan.com.
All goldfishes have the same size and can exist in a fishbowl. This is entirely wrong because
goldfishes can grow to a length of 12 inches, such that it is impossible to keep them in bowls.
They are clean and can live in a fishbowl. Again not true, because in reality they are dirty, messy
and sloppy, and they produce a great amount of ammonia from excess food and excrement.
Their memory lasts for only three seconds, which is untrue. It has been shown that goldfishes fed
regularly will approach the surface of the tank when they see the person feeding come near the tank.
Goldfishes are solitary creatures, preferring to keep to themselves. Again this is inaccurate because
they like to associate with their own kind. They like living in community tanks and be showered
with attention by other

State the rationale for the task: First we are going to ask questions related to the task to engage the
students. Then we are going to introduce the task and show them an example. Afterwards, we will
do the task together as a class, and then I will let them do the task on their own. Once they finish the
task, we will have the concluding thought.
I chose this task because the students have learned: how to count and they should know how to
add/subtract and compose and decompose numbers up to 10.
I chose these numbers because: the class is already doing addition and subtraction and some of the
students are struggling with it.
I chose this context because: there are a few students who are struggling with addition and
subtraction and I think this review would be benefited for them. State extension or adaptation
Extention: If my students need more of a challenge, I will increase the number of guinea pigs to 15,
or add an extra cage.
Adaptation: If my students are struggling, I will decrease the number of guinea pigs to 5. I will
slowly add more guinea pigs, once they show confidence and knowledge in the altered activity.

A Short Story : The Story Of My Childhood
I remember coming home from my preschool as a little shy 3 year old. The day prior, I had painted
what I thought was a masterpiece which was a large green dinosaur. I was so eager, I couldn't wait to
show my mom what I had made. Right when I opened the front door, before I could run off to hug
my mom, I heard my sisters giggling. Completely ignoring my painting, I tossed it onto the ground
and ran up the stairs as fast as my little legs could carry me to where my sisters were. Out of breath,
I saw my sisters were crowding around a tiny, colorful box. Before I could even move, I started
screaming out of joy. My mom and my older sisters had gone into the pet store and had gotten a
plump, reddish–brown syrian hamster, which I had soon named Kelly. My sisters also picked out a
large enclosure with many tunnels for Kelly to explore in. My favorite accessory my sister got was a
large purple ball in which Kelly could run around and explored in. I thought that was the ultimate,
greatest thing ever made for hamsters, so while my dad was setting up the cage, fascinated I
watched Kelly run around in the ball. After a long, pain–filled 10 minutes of asking my dad "Is it
done yet?" the hamster's cage was finished. I was so exhilarated to put the hamster in I ran over to
the ball, that's when I noticed Kelly had opened the top of the plastic ball and was trying to escape! I
wasn't sure if I should tell my dad the incident, because I thought I just put the lid of the ball on
wrong, so I just ignored it. After scooping up Kelly, my dad put her in her new cage and she loved
it! She started borrowing in the bedding and was exploring all the tubes. My dad then suggested that
we should go eat dinner, so we closed her cage and went upstairs to eat dinner. After dinner, my
sisters and I went to go put Kelly in the ball to run around. "Kelly got out of the ball before dinner."
I said to my sisters. "It's fine. We'll watch her the whole time so we will see if she's trying to
escape." said my oldest sister, Molly. Convinced I agreed to let her run around in her plastic ball. We
were all mesmerized by watching Kelly run and explore our basement. She would run as fast as she
could and then stop and turn in a different

Hamster Research Paper

  • 1. Hamster Research Paper I want you to imagine you are in a pet store. You turn the corner to the small animal section and you see something that catches your eye. This little creature is nibbling at his cage trying to get out, he reminds you of Houdini. This creature is black, plump and pocket sized. This animal is a hamster! Hammy History The hamster trend first started in 1930 but they were not always in your five year old brothers bedroom. The first discovery of hamsters date all the way back to 1797, a man named Alexander Russell was first to mention hamsters. Thanks to Israel Aharoni the hamster breed was originated. Israel is a zoologist who lead a quest to discover syrian hamsters in Aleppo,Syria, he found a mother and her eleven babies in a wheat field. He ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hamsters are the most common animals kept as pets because of their easy tempers and care routines, like any animal there are pros and cons to owning one as a pet. If you are looking to purchase a baby hamster the road will be a little bumpy. Hamsters are born blind and very weak, hamsters rely on their mother for two weeks, because of this hamsters grow at a slower rate. Hamsters are crepuscular which means they are most active during the twilight hours which may be a problem for young hamsters owners. This would be a problem because hamsters are very active and loud which may disrupt your sleep schedule. A simple solution would be to move your hamster out of your bedroom. Because hamsters are so active they need lots of attention, if you don't give your hamster enough attention they can chew the wires of their cage resulting in teeth or health problems. Hamsters are a very delicate animal and they need to seek immediate medical attention if they get sick. A very common problem is obesity which can cause heart problems and may possibly cause a broken or fractured toe from the amount of pressure on the foot. One solution would be to feed your hamster less fatty food like sunflower seeds and seed mixes instead, feed your hamster high protein and calcium in order to keep your hamster ... • 3. Investigating The Memory Of Hamsters 1. Introduction In this research task I will be handling the memory of hamsters. Originally I wanted to use mice for this task but I found that hamsters show signs of intelligence which brought my research to their species. All of my literature refers to mice but as both mice and hamsters are from the rodent family there will not be too much variation. My aim is to research whether hamsters rely on their memory to reach the end of the maze. Through my literature review one can see research done through mice to help find solutions to a variance in mental health issues. I chose hamsters as they are not used frequently in research. There may be objections to my use of hamsters as it may be seen as animal cruelty but I will not harm the hamsters in any way. I will build a maze that is beneficial to my research but will not be too easy or too hard for the mice to complete. I will then deprive the hamsters of food for four hours to ensure that they will seek out the reward. Once I have carried out my experiment multiple times I will be able to draw conclusions and discern whether my aim and hypothesis is relevant. 2. Review of Literature During my research I have found that a large part of my literature deals with the memory of mice. Though this does not apply directly to me research, as I will be using hamsters, it will still help me refine my experiment. Studies mostly circle around mental health issues and finding solutions to these problems. These sources will aid me in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Hamster Research Paper Have you ever wanted a kid friendly class pet? Have you ever not known want pet to get? Well I have the perfect pets in mind such as a hamster, platy fish, and a turtle. The reason I feel these pets are great for a classroom is because they don't bite, aren't poisonous, and aren't loud. Also these pets don't have to be with someone over the weekend. To start, a hamster is a great class pet. Their diet is super simple and cheap, and consists of carrots, broccoli, or any vegetable. Also hamsters live in a small cage that is great for carrying cleaning, and preventing hands getting to the hamster. The hamster sleeps soundly in his cage, and can get lots of activity by his treadmill wheel. Just for safety make sure the cage stays locked, and did you know there are twenty five species of hamsters? Since there are so many species of hamsters, you can have a wide variety. Personally, I feel hamsters would be great class pets because they aren't distracting, deadly, or poisonous. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This particular fish eats regular fish food and even dried worms. The platy fish also lives in a safe fish tank where it gets all of its sleep and exercise. Fish usually get their exercise by swimming, so you won't need to provide an additional feature. Just in case I would put a lid on top of the tank to keep small hands from grabbing hold of the fish. An interesting fact is some platy fish have a black shaped mickey mouse head on the body, and you can't get any better than that for first graders. This would be a great class pet because it is extremely quiet, easy to manage, and they are safer than almost any ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Response to Exogenous Kisspeptin Varies According to Sex and Reproductive Condition in Siberian Hamsters. (Phodopus sungorus). General and Comparative Endocrinology, 170, 172–179. C. A basic summary of what the experiment tested and the result. Greives and his group members created an experiment to test the changes in reproductive status of male and female Siberian hamsters (Phodopus sungorus). This was being regulated by the ability of changing hypothalamo–pituitary–gonadal (HPG) axis. The relationship between kisspeptin and HPG was studied base on 2 separated experiments. Experiment 1 was conducted to determine if the broad ranges of kisspeptin doses matter differently in adult male and females Siberian Hamster. Short–day baseline female's LH level at 5.0 and 10.0 doses of kisspeptin did not show any difference, but in post injection, the level of long–day and short–day was higher in 10.0 doses. Even though the LH levels increases in the long–day base line and long–day post–injection the graphs still did not show any specific pattern compared to the male hamster. The Dutch rabbit like other pets are considered in in their adult years very early on in their life. A rabbit can be considered an "adult" and be ready to start breeding, at as young as 6 months. This is likely because their life could end at as young as 5 years. An average dutch rabbit's lifespan isn't much more than that. Despite it only being about 6 years, as long as you take good care of these bunnies, they are sure to live a long and healthy life. There are some requirements for how you should think about before adopting your dutch rabbit. All Dutch rabbits must live in an area where temperatures won't go over seventy degrees Fahrenheit and won't go below forty degrees Fahrenheit. Also dutch rabbits, despite some other research you may have done, Dutch rabbits really shouldn't be fed rabbit pellets past their bunny times (up to six months old). • 13. The Case Of Freddy The Hamster The case of Freddy the hamster has various components, conflicts and codes to consider. To reach my own conclusion of the case I chose to proceed with the seven steps of decision making. Typically this case serves to be at a micro level, however with the inclusion of media and personals that do not belong as the primary characters, this case also looks at macro level theories. Along with that I explored the empirical and normative approaches as well different perspectives of individuals based on ethics, morals and practicality. The central focus of this case is the relationship between Jack and Freddy however there are other issues that I considered to derive at the conclusion that the solution taken by the school board, of accommodating jack in another classroom, is justified. This case portrays several power struggles. The micro level perspective focuses on the struggle between third grade student, Jack, and the classroom pet hamster Freddy. The power struggle undertaken by Jack's mother, Jane Doe, against Carole Simpson, Jack's teacher, PAC the principle, the school and community represent the macro perspective of the point of view. There are several facts that I had considered important during my analysis. For one, this case portrays Doe as an over– involved and demanding mother. Coming from an upper–class background, she knows how to voice her opinion. Simpson has experience and is well established within the school. Simpson states that Freddy is an integral part of ... • 21. Short Note On Raising Mice And Rabbits When I turned 8, my parents bought me and my sister a hamster. We were so excited. I promised them that we would take a full responsibility for her. We didn't think twice about all the work we had to do. We were just thrilled about our new family member. The next day, we began to do some research on how to raise hamsters. First, we went through all kinds of them and their personalities so that we could pick the best one. We came up with the tiniest, cutest little hamster. Back then, we didn't know it was a dwarf hamster, the sensitive, annoying kind. Then, we googled to see which cage and food would be nice for our hamster. The cage we chose was very expensive. It was a three–floored cage, with an eating room, a bed, ladders, and a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She looked so lovely and cute in her new shelter. But she refused our hands. After that, we were hurt. Both physically and emotionally. She bit us. I put her back inside the cage. This time, instead of moving around, she went directly to the bed: the only place where we couldn't see her because of the shadow. We knew she wanted to avoid us. Our mother told us that she was just stressed right now, but that didn't make us feel any better. The next day, we found a yellowish liquid on the top floor in the corner. We knew right away that our hamster had peed last night. "She thinks the cage is safe." , I thought. "But why doesn't she think we are safe to be with?". We replaced her food every day and cleaned the bath powder whenever we could. She still didn't seem to like us. We tried to touch her, but in return, she bit us. I gave up. I didn't want her anymore. I regretted I even bought her in the first place. I hated her, to be honest. But everything changed the next day. She wasn't sleeping in her bed. She wasn't rolling in the bathtub. She wasn't running in the wheel. She wasn't hiding under the sawdust. She was gone. I panicked when I realized the fact that she'd escaped. But where? At that moment, I heard a soft rustling sound under the refrigerator. "No way.", I thought. I found a flashlight and I lay down flat on the ground. At first, I couldn't see anything. • 23. Hamster Research Paper What You Need to Consider When Buying Large Hamster Cages Hamsters chew everything that comes their way, so you need to buy a cage for them. One of the best things about hamster cages is that you can find them in various sizes and shapes. These are just some of the most important things to keep in mind when looking for large hamster cages. What to Look for in Large Hamster Cages If you're buying a large hamster cage, make sure that it provides proper ventilation so that your pet will stay comfortable. Plastic modular cages and aquariums don't provide enough airflow. Wire cages provide proper ventilation, making them the most popular option among hamster owners. Rabbits are fabulous for those who are looking for a quiet playmate, while rats and ferrets are hyperactive and surprisingly intelligent. Guinea pigs are another very popular choice for a small pet. A website dedicated to guinea pigs boasts on their front page that there is no question that "guinea pigs make excellent pets [and are] docile, low maintenance, and unbelievably cute." I strongly beg to differ, unless "docile" means "boring" and "low maintenance" means that you only need to scoop up piggy pellet poop every few minutes. Calling a guinea ... Imagine that your beloved block of wood was once part of a hardy, eighty–foot–tall tree, who had majestically grown from a tiny acorn in the dense forrests of Canada! Who would want to be introducing a new pet to their friends and say "This is Bob and he came from the pet store and well...uhh...that's about it, actually"? The very thought of it is embarassing. Score one for the block of wood. If their pathetic past isn't enough to deter a potential owner from getting a guinea pig, next consider the housing requirements of the creature. Unless planning to allow the guinea pig to rome free in the house, a sturdy (and expensive) cage will be necessary. An absolute bare minimum of two square feet of floor space is required, but very often cages offer four or more square feet of space. The smaller, "starter" cages can cost anywhere from fourty to eighty dollars, and as the space in the cage increases, so does the price. The cage must be placed with care in a location that is free from direct sunlight and drafts. Bedding, another requirement for a healthy pet, is also costly and is constantly needed (Guinea pigs soil their litter very quickly and efficently, but we'll get to that later). In addition to a cage and bedding, it is also generally a good idea to provide containers for food (hay, scientific pellet mix, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

So, how exactly did this pet, the hamster, start out? How did it become so popular? It was in 1946, that a man, named Albert Marsh, won a bet; as the winner of the bet, he received a Siberian Hamster. Back then, this creature was strange, as it was not common nor really heard of in America because the creature was native to Syria, and were only sent into America as testing subjects. But after some thinking, Albert had an idea, or more like a belief: "Hamsters didn't belong in laboratories, but in the caring hands of children." Consequently, he got a few more of the miniscule creatures (probably from a lab) and then started breeding them; apparently, as he later learned, the hamsters are fast breeders! Children often experience their animal as someone they trust as a friend, but these are not the only advantages. Various studies have shown that having a pet is good for children's development. In this paper, I will give six reasons why having a pet is good for children. 1) Emotional support In children's lives emotions such as anger, fear, and joy are shared with animals. Children can tell secrets, and feel at ease with their pets, since the pets can't judge or talk to them. The children experience much support. Along with that we also see the struggle of power between Jack's mother and classroom, teacher, PAC, principle, school and community. There the key figures involved in this case at a micro level are Freddy, Jack, Jack's mother, Carole Simpson, the PAC and principle. At the macro level, the groups that will be influenced heavily due to the consequences of the solution, are the rest of the students within the original classroom, the school in general and as well as the society. The facts within this case portray Jack's mother as a over– involved and demanding mother. Being an upper class woman, she knows how to voice her opinion, if ignored and she uses her resources in doing so. She is also seen to be a strong opinionated woman with little or none cooperative nature. The teacher, as claimed by the PAC and her colleagues, is very well established and competent of a teacher with a lot of experience and history with the school. Freddy the hamster is an integral part of the learning process for the students in Ms. Simpson's class. The time that she bit me was one particular incident that I'll never ever forget because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We weren't there long when we finally saw the female Teddy Bear hamsters. There were two in the right section of the two glass tanks and there was one in the right section of the tanks. The employee opened the tanks up and the first house he lifted up so that we could see the hamsters inside, a hamster that was all tan with white markings screams at the top of her lungs and kept trying to bite him. We immediately started laughing when the other hamster that was all grey and in the house with that hamster followed her around and tried to snuggle up with her to sleep. Then there was another little one in the other tank that was smaller than the other two in the other tank. She came up to the glass gently and when I put my finger up to the tank, she tried to sniff me by putting her nose up to where my finger ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 63. The Pros And Cons Of Goldfishes Goldfishes are better than cats, dogs or hamsters as pets for several reasons, according to the For Birds Only Blog. They make such great pets because unlike dogs, they do not have to be given their daily walk. They also do their own exercise swimming inside a tank, making leashes unnecessary. Another advantage of having goldfishes as pets is that they don't have to be groomed daily like cats or dogs. This is good news for people who are allergic to cat or dog fur, and for people who cannot afford to have their dogs or cats groomed once or twice a month. Goldfishes are also low–maintenance pets compared to other small animals such as hamsters. Maintaining a hamster as a pet is quite a commitment because their cages have to be cleaned and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Goldfishes also have the reputation of having long lives, beaten only by cats who supposedly have nine lives –– pun intended. They are a perfect match for parents who want to give their children pets that will last for some time. Unfortunately, there are some stereotypical misconceptions unjustly served to the goldfish, according to the goldfishlifespan.com. All goldfishes have the same size and can exist in a fishbowl. This is entirely wrong because goldfishes can grow to a length of 12 inches, such that it is impossible to keep them in bowls. They are clean and can live in a fishbowl. Again not true, because in reality they are dirty, messy and sloppy, and they produce a great amount of ammonia from excess food and excrement. Their memory lasts for only three seconds, which is untrue. It has been shown that goldfishes fed regularly will approach the surface of the tank when they see the person feeding come near the tank. Goldfishes are solitary creatures, preferring to keep to themselves. Again this is inaccurate because they like to associate with their own kind. They like living in community tanks and be showered with attention by other ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Then we are going to introduce the task and show them an example. Afterwards, we will do the task together as a class, and then I will let them do the task on their own. Once they finish the task, we will have the concluding thought. I chose this task because the students have learned: how to count and they should know how to add/subtract and compose and decompose numbers up to 10. I chose these numbers because: the class is already doing addition and subtraction and some of the students are struggling with it. I chose this context because: there are a few students who are struggling with addition and subtraction and I think this review would be benefited for them. State extension or adaptation Extention: If my students need more of a challenge, I will increase the number of guinea pigs to 15, or add an extra cage. Adaptation: If my students are struggling, I will decrease the number of guinea pigs to 5. I will slowly add more guinea pigs, once they show confidence and knowledge in the altered activity. Student Anticipated Responses How do you think the students might solve the task? Order in which students will share out Additional Notes Strategy 1: Student will do each action in the story and represent all quantities. 1 This is what students this age will usually do. This shows they are on track with their age group. Strategy 2: Student might do ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

You cannot help but notice him smiling up at you with his tongue half hanging out. Although you feel today has been the worst day, you cannot help but feel compelled to respond back with a big grin since he looks so happy. According to Wells (2009), "it is only recently, however, that any scientific attention has been devoted to the relationship between companion animal and physical well–being in humans." In order to conclude her results she looked at the attachment style. For Wells (2009) she concluded, "a direct causal association between human well–being and companion animals is still not conclusive, the literature reviewed above is largely supportive of the widely held belief that 'pets are good for us." Although she found no supportive link between the two variables, she did still see that somehow and someway animals can improve people's lives. College students can fall under the disease category of this study since many students suffer from these conditions when times become stressful. Friedman and Son (2009) also studied the association of companion animals and human health benefits. "An important question is whether pet ownership causes better health or better health encourages pet ownership" (Friedman and Son, 2009). After researching this question, they found that "pet owners had lower levels of cardiovascular risk factors such as serum triglyceride and blood pressure than non–owners"(Friedman and Son, 2009). They even looked at a longitudinal study that "pet ownership was associated with increased 1–year survival rates in patients hospitalized for coronary heart disease" (Friedman and Son, 2009). • 77. A Short Story : The Story Of My Childhood I remember coming home from my preschool as a little shy 3 year old. The day prior, I had painted what I thought was a masterpiece which was a large green dinosaur. I was so eager, I couldn't wait to show my mom what I had made. Right when I opened the front door, before I could run off to hug my mom, I heard my sisters giggling. Completely ignoring my painting, I tossed it onto the ground and ran up the stairs as fast as my little legs could carry me to where my sisters were. Out of breath, I saw my sisters were crowding around a tiny, colorful box. Before I could even move, I started screaming out of joy. My mom and my older sisters had gone into the pet store and had gotten a plump, reddish–brown syrian hamster, which I had soon named Kelly. My sisters also picked out a large enclosure with many tunnels for Kelly to explore in. My favorite accessory my sister got was a large purple ball in which Kelly could run around and explored in. I thought that was the ultimate, greatest thing ever made for hamsters, so while my dad was setting up the cage, fascinated I watched Kelly run around in the ball. After a long, pain–filled 10 minutes of asking my dad "Is it done yet?" the hamster's cage was finished. I was so exhilarated to put the hamster in I ran over to the ball, that's when I noticed Kelly had opened the top of the plastic ball and was trying to escape! I wasn't sure if I should tell my dad the incident, because I thought I just put the lid of the ball on wrong, so I just ignored it. After scooping up Kelly, my dad put her in her new cage and she loved it! She started borrowing in the bedding and was exploring all the tubes. My dad then suggested that we should go eat dinner, so we closed her cage and went upstairs to eat dinner. After dinner, my sisters and I went to go put Kelly in the ball to run around. "Kelly got out of the ball before dinner." I said to my sisters. "It's fine. We'll watch her the whole time so we will see if she's trying to escape." said my oldest sister, Molly. Convinced I agreed to let her run around in her plastic ball. We were all mesmerized by watching Kelly run and explore our basement. She would run as fast as she could and then stop and turn in a different ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
