Food Security Is The Deadliest Category Of Malnutrition
Food Security Food security is defined as having access to sufficient amounts and safe food at all
times, in order to maintain a healthy and active lifestyle. Food security is often times looked upon as
just the availability of food, but safety and hygiene of food and food products gets overlooked. For
example, many developing countries don t have the specific education needed to know that certain
chemicals, such as pesticides, insecticides, and herbicides, should only be applied during certain
growth stages of crops. This causes the consumption of these crops to be very harmful to individuals.
Food insecurities are causing many problems, leading to malnourishment, famines, and death in
developing countries. Many countries within ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another major task they need to incorporate into their government would be implementing
agricultural and food policies that will be effective and help the economy. Although, this may be hard
to accomplish due to the violence and corrupt government in Nigeria. Justice could be the ethical
argument behind this, because many people are suffering from unfairness from the jihadists. They are
stealing people s possessions, food, and animals that they live off from. They are unable to make any
money from the crops that they had grown, animals they raised, and are going hungry from this,
causing food insecurities and malnutrition throughout the country. Nigeria in not the only country in
Africa facing these problematic situations. Al Hudayah in Yemen is also suffering from war and
government conflicts. The Saudi jets have been attacking and bombing villages throughout Yemen.
This has caused a sudden decrease in many people s income, which is making it hard for individuals to
buy food for themselves and their families. Again, this hunger crisis with severe acute malnutrition
could lead to famine very shortly if no steps are taken to overcome the problem. The ethical argument
behind the situation that Yemen is currently facing could also be justice or rights. This is because it is
unfair for a country to be suffering due to conflict or war. A majority of the individuals being bombed
or killed from the war are innocent people that are just trying to

James Graham Conscientiousness
Introduction Aubrey Drake Graham is a 30 year old Canadian born rapper, singer, songwriter, and
actor. His openness appears with his adventurousness and indiscrimination of other artists who have
criminal records. Furthermore, he shows his neuroticism with difficulty to find his relationship
partner. On the other hand, high rank on the Billboard chart and graduation from his high school with
determination despite his tough and rough incidents in his past show his conscientiousness. Regarding
his success as an artist, we will discuss three aspects of his personality using Big Five Personality Test
a type of test that examines different taxonomies that all the individuals have: Openness,
Conscientiousness, and Neuroticism.

North America and Europe. He had a total of three tours and traveled with other artists (Canada, 2010;

records, but he did not discriminate any of them (Alexis, 2015; Markman, 2012; Fitzgerlaid, 2014;
Ryan, 2013; Vena, 2012).
Conscientiousness
Description. Conscientiousness was defined as desire to do well and hard working. Individuals with
this trait was shown to be vigilant (Rose, Murphy, Byard, Nikzad, 2002), organized, determined, goal
directed with tasks (Jackson, Wood, Bogg, Walton, Harms, Roberts). Individuals who score low in this
trait was regarded as disorganized, impulsive, non persistent with tasks. People whom without a high
school diploma might score low in conscientiousness. They were generally regarded as disorganized
labourers or socially irresponsible although there were many reasons for students academic
withdrawal from high school such as victimization of bullying (Finkelhor, Hamby, Shattuck, Mitchell,

Essay about The Roanoke Colony
The Roanoke colony was located on the Roanoke Island, in Dare County. This is where North
Carolina is located today. In 1584, explorers Philip Amadas and Arthur Barlowe were the first
Europeans to set view the island. They were sent to that particular region by Sir Walter Raleigh with
the assignment of exploring the extensive sounds and estuaries in hunt of an ideal location for
settlement. Barlowe wrote bright information of Roanoke Island, and when the explorers returned to
England a year afterward with two Natives, Manteo and Wanchese, all of London was abuzz with chat

On April 27, 1584, Raleigh dispatched a journey led by Phillip Amadas and Arthur Barlowe to search
for the Eastern coast of North America. They arrived on Roanoke Island on July 4, and almost
immediately recognized relations with the local citizens, the Sectoans and Croatans. Barlowe returned
to England with two Croatans named Manteo and Wanchese, who were able to explain the
government and natural features of the region to Raleigh. Based on this knowledge, Raleigh prepared
a second journey, to be led by Sir Richard Grenville.
Greenville s convoy departed Plymouth on April 9, 1585, with five major ships: the Tiger (Grenville
s), the Roebuck, the Red Lion, the Elizabeth, and the Dorothy. Consequently, a harsh rainstorm off the
shore of Portugal divided the Tiger from the rest of the convoy. The captains had an unforeseen event
plan if they were divided, which was to get together up again in Puerto Rico, and the Tiger reached in
the Baye of Muskito (Guayanilla Bay) on May 11.
While anticipating for the additional ships, Grenville recognized relations with the Spanish there while
concurrently engaging in some privateering in opposition to them, and also built a fort. The Elizabeth
arrived almost immediately after the fort s creation. Eventually, Grenville worn out off anticipating or
the remaining ships, and departed on June 7. The fort was discarded, and its site remains unknown.

Maple Syr Up Research Paper
How to make Maple Syrup
My family has been making maple syrup for over 100 years. My siblings, cousins, and I are the 6th
generation of syrup makers in our family. Everyone in the family has their part to play during the 6
week long syrup season. The process of making maple syrup is a long and hard one but in the end it s
totally worth all of the loss of sleep, frozen and aching limbs, and the extra time we take out of our
lives to make syrup every year. Our family usually starts the season on Valentine s Day as a family
tradition to start drilling in the woods and to get all of the firewood we need ready for the entire
season. For the whole 6 week season we need to use 30 chords of firewood to use during the
evaporation process. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first grade is called Grade A it has three different ambers and is mostly used on the table. There is
light amber, which is light in color and delicate in taste. Medium amber has a mellow flavor to it and
medium in color. The dark amber is obviously dark in color and full flavored. The next grade is B
which is mostly used in the kitchen but personally, this is my favorite grade of syrup. It is more robust
in flavor and it is used mostly to cook with. The next grade is C which is the commercial syrup. We
don t usually sell this stuff off our shelves to the customers but it still has a good maple flavor. The last
grade is grade D which is the nastiest syrup of the season. Its what we call Buddy Syrup . It has that
name because since it s the last sap of the season collected, it has a bitter taste to it from the buds of
the trees. We don t sell it or even bother putting it in the jugs like the rest of the syrup. We put it in the
stainless steel drums and it gets taken to factories that make the syrup sold in grocery stores. So, the
factories take 2% of the Buddy Syrup , and 98% water and corn syrup and mix it all together and send
it to grocery stores all over and most people buy it that way. The buddy syrup can also be used to
sweeten tobacco and horse feed. It can also turn out to look just like the other grades that we actually
sell to customers. All I have to say is that Mother Nature can be great to work with some years, and
others, she can be a real pain in the

Women s Rights in the 19th Century and Now Essay
It would be a huge understatement to say that many things have changed when it comes to women s
rights, positions, and roles in our society today since the 19th century. Actually, very few similarities
remain. Certain family values, such as specific aspects of domesticity and performance of family
duties are amongst the only similarities still present. Victorian women had several hardships to
overcome. Education, marriage, leisure, and travel amongst other things were limited and controlled.
A woman was never to travel if not in the company of her parents or husband. Leisure, for example,
was limited and a woman always had to look busy and find something to do. They did not have the
right to vote, sue or own any property. Their bodies ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This resulted in her share of criticism from the media and her readers. In a time when it was expected
of a woman to behave a certain way and sexual desire was considered something only experienced by
men, Kate Chopin spoke with exceptional openness about human sexuality. She then criticized society
for its close mindedness. She helped to generate enlightened attitudes among both the women and men
of her time. By not only admitting the fact that a woman has strong sexual desires, but also glorifying
it, Chopin opened doors to better communication and understanding between men and women as a
result of The Storm.
This has changed significantly since the 19th century. Sex, amongst others, is no longer taboo to
women and it has become a much more liberated subject. It is encouraged and accepted in today s
society that a woman enjoys sexual pleasures outside the restraints of only pregnancy, even marriage.
Women in the Victorian era had very little to say when it came to marriage. Usually, the parents of the
woman would make the choice for her as to whom she would marry based on a man s social status. It
was not odd for a 15 year old girl to wed, unlike in today s society. Parents would usually look for a
man who was wealthy enough to help the woman advance in her life, since women were mostly
uneducated and only taught to be homemakers and mothers and not work. Women were dealt with as
if they were objects, and

Trends in the Industry of IT and the Business Cycles Essay
The name information technology was used for the first time in 1958, in an article in Harvard
Business Review and since that time this industry has seen only innovations throughout the history.
Some problems that the industry is facing are the increase competition from the offshore and inshore
players, the slow growth of the hardware sales, the decrease in the IT spending globally etc. But
despite all the problems and challenges that the industry is facing, the opportunities are many. One of
the most important ones is the increased number of the smart device users which is established as a
very profitable segment for the information technology segment.

The slowdown in the IT spending globally
According to information technology industry estimates, global IT spending growth has been 2%
which is smaller than the previous forecast of 4.1% for 2013. The decrease in the IT spending by
enterprises as the cut on capital expenditure is due to economic uncertainties prevailing globally
which could negatively impact the IBM s revenue growth.
Competition from offshore players
The competition from offshore players has been increasing in recently. Offshore IT outsourcers are
selling directly to the end users and in this way they compete directly with the local suppliers of these
services such as IBM. This phenomenon creates a highly competitive industry which makes
companies to continually search for ways to differentiate themselves from their competitors.
SlowGrowth in the hardware segment
One of the main problems is the slow growth in the hardware segment. IBM sales growth has been flat
in the last quarters because the company has been unable to successfully close new multimillion
dollars hardware and software deals in the last year because of the bad economic conditions. The
hardware sales have been declining because different firms prefer moving to cloud services which run
largely on low cost hardware often custom build for cloud architectures. IBMs revenues from servers
and hardware have been decreasing a lot. Even though IBM moved to a new high value area such as

Reckless Driving Essay
As Americans we love our cars, trucks, SUVs, and motorbikes for many different reasons. One major
reason is that they are an easy and convenient mobility; a personal mode of transportation. It is rather
hard to imagine what this county would be like without all the roads and vehicles on them. This is
abundantly evident in Arizona, where the majority of us drive to most all of our activities from going
to work or taking the kids for an ice cream. We jump into our vehicle and go. However, a curious
thing often happens when we get in our car, truck and SUVs. We sometimes change turning into
someone different when behind the wheel of our vehicle. We can become inconsiderate and aggressive
to other drivers; at times even becoming rude, crude, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They are failure to yield the right of way, reckless, carless, erratic driving, failure to obey traffic signs,
and other traffic control devices, and making improper turns (AAA Foundation (2009). Arizona law
makers took notice of the dangers that are created by aggressive drivers. The lawmakers amended the
Reckless Driving Section and amended the name of the statute 28 695 to Reckless and Aggressive
Driving. Arizona statute defines aggressive driving as a situation in which a person commits a
violation of speeding and at least two other traffic violations (i.e., failure to obey traffic control
devices, improper passing, driving off the pavement or traveled portion of the highway, following too
close, failure to yield right of way, or driving in a way that is an immediate hazard to another person
or vehicle). (ARIZONA DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY , para. 2). This was an important step
allow law enforcement a tool to make the roads safer. The serious problem is we should be trying to
be safer on our own. The question that should be asked is why are so many people are compelled to be
dangerous drivers? It could be that there is a sense of invincibility when they are in control of a big
powerful machine. This is often the case with younger male drivers, who enjoy the thrill of dangerous
driving. In other instances normally calm, law abiding drivers snap in a fit of rage. This road rage can
turn a driver from calm to instantly a monster behind the wheel,

Stockholm Syndrome Or Norrmalmstorg Syndrome
Love can form in many different ways; maybe from first sight, childhood memories, recent times or
kidnapping wait what? As ridiculous as it sounds, falling in love for your captor or abuser has been an
actual phenomenon that unfortunately exists in our world; Often called Stockholm Syndrome, Or
Norrmalmstorg Syndrome , it is a psychological condition that makes the captive believe in an
alliance with their captor. On August 23, 1973 in Stockholm, Sweden 4 bank workers were taken in
hostage by Jan Erik Olsson for a 6 day stand off with the police at the Kreditbaken until the workers
were finally released; Jan Erik was immediately put under arrest after surrendering. However, once the
captives were freed, they showed shocking behavior of showing sympathy and made positive
relationships with Jan Erik; this baffled people when the captives started acting like this considering
the fact that Olsson and his accomplice Clark Olofsson tortured them with nooses and dynamite sticks
and threatened to kill them many times during those 131 hours. Gaining the name thanks to Nils
Bejerot, a criminologist and psychiatrist, after he analyzed the victims brains. A year later in 1974
came another case of the syndrome; Patty Hearst, the granddaughter and heiress of William Randolph
Hearst, was held captive by the Symbionese Liberation Army and brainwashed into accepting their
ideas. In April she was caught robbing a bank in San Francisco via CCTV and was sentenced to 7

The Difference Between Old, Old And New Imperialism
Imperialism which is defined as the extension of a country s power and influence through
colonisation, use of military force, or other similar means occurred in history during two different time
periods. The first bout of imperialism which is often referred to as old imperialism occurred between
1492 and 1800 while the new imperialism transpired between 1870 and 1914 (Scammell, 2004).
Although the two movements had some similarities, there were several differences starting with the
motivation behind each wave of imperialism and extending to the economic, ideological, and political
differences (Bush, 2006). Those differences are the reasons why the two waves of imperialism are
often classified as Old and New . This essay will be briefly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

New imperialism was motivated by the increased production demands created as a result of the
industrial revolution, technological developments in communication and transportation and the wave
of extreme nationalism (Seton Watson, 1961). During that time period, the acquisition of new
territories was encouraged as a means of expanding profit by investing capital in the various territories
(Seton Watson, 1961). In order to meet the constantly growing demands brought on by the industrial
revolution, imperialist countries sought to expand their territories even further (Seton Watson, 1961).
One major benefit of the expansion was an increase in amount of raw materials available. Another
benefit of acquiring territories included cheap labour which was a necessity due to the expanding
industries (Seton Watson, 1961). Economic growth was another benefit of territorial expansion as
there were more markets to trade with. This second wave of imperialism encouraged imperialist
countries to take political control of their colonies (Seton Watson, 1961). They created new
governments that would also benefit them economically as the local leaders would no longer have to
be paid for their provision of raw materials like they were under the cash and carry system
implemented during the first wave of imperialism. Western imperialist nations believed that they were

Rhetorical Analysis Of Senator Barack Obama
Rhetorical Analysis Essay Senator Barack Obama, in his address, A More Perfect Union (March 18,

made against the country by his former pastor. Obama is calling on his fellow Americans to consider
the role that race has played in dividing the country and in developing a more perfect union. Through
his use of characterization to establish his foundation as a person who has the same struggles as

whether he believes what his pastor believes. As he answers the questions, he attempts to end the

his address, he also utilizes parallelism to bring the focus back to the foundation of his campaign.
Obama says, We can accept a politics that breeds division and conflict and cynicism. We can tackle
race only as a spectacle as we did in the OJ trial . . . That is one option . . . This time we want to talk

America could do, but the list of problems would just continue on forever, and contrasting them with
what America could do that would actually help it in the long run. He uses repetition to bring the
attention back to what he would tackle as president. He is taking the pastor s negative comments and
addressing them, but instead of focusing on all the bad, Obama shifts the focus to the

The Contingency Theory Of Leadership
Introduction
The term leadership can be significantly defined as expressed as the overall process through which a
respective individual influences and provides the right kind of support to others for the purpose of
accomplishing a common objective, goal or task. The leadership theories can be said to the significant
assumptions that significantly help in distinguishing the overall characteristics of any respective leader
(Timpe, 2007). The leadership theories extensively focus on various specific qualities of a leader
which includes knowledge and levels and skills that separates the respective leader from his or her
followers. There exists various kinds of leadership theories but amongst them great man theory, trait
theory, situational leadership theory,, behavioral leadership theory, contingency leadership theory,
transformational leadership theory and transactional leadership theory are considered to be the most
significant. The following essay has identified a significant leadership theory that can prove to be

how a respective individual can significantly reflect upon his or her own style of leadership. The
contingency leadership theory is not considered to be a process of development of leadership. It has
been observed that the contingency leadership theory fails to blend with a leader s career growth. If
the respective leader fails to change or adapt his respective style, the respective leader fails to be

Etv2
Effective establishment of the hematopoietic and vascular systems is prerequisite for successful
embryogenesis. The ETS transcription factor Etv2 has proven to be essential for hematopoietic and
vascular development. Etv2 expression marks the onset of the hematopoietic and vascular
development and its deficiency leads to an absolute block in hematopoietic and vascular development.
Etv2 is transiently expressed during development and is mainly expressed in testis in adults.
Consistent with its expression pattern, Etv2 is transiently required for the generation of the optimal
levels of the hemangiogenic cell population. Deletion of this gene after the hemangiogenic progenitor

Subsequently, microarray analysis of the zebrafish cloche mutants, which are defective in blood and
endothelial cell formation, identified etsrp expression to be greatly reduced in cloche mutants
(Sumanas et al., 2005). Additionally, microarray analysis of the hemangiogenic progenitor, which
generates hematopoietic and endothelial cells, and mouse Nkx2 5 null hearts identified Etv2 to be
highly expressed in the hemangioblast population compared to its progeny, hematopoietic and
endothelial cells (Lugus et al., 2007), but greatly reduced in Nkx2 5 null hearts (Ferdous et al.,
2009), respectively. These studies suggested that ETV2 might play a role in hematopoietic and
cardiovascular cell lineage development. Indeed, recent studies have established the critical and non

Analysis Of Paris Is Burning
COMPARISON OF PARIS IS BURNING AND HOW TO SURVIVE A PLAGUE
Ava Morrow
History 3220
The United States in the 20th Century
November 13, 2017 Beginning in the mid 1980 s, a number of efforts were initiated to bring
awareness and enlightenment to the actual tragedy of AIDS. Two films that evolved out of these
awareness campaigns were the documentaries Paris Is Burning and How to Survive a Plague . Both
films, although in significantly diverse ways, provide a window into the alternative lifestyles of LGBT
people of the times and the problems and issues they faced. A comparison of these two documentaries
demonstrates the initial fears of the public and affected people and the beginnings of acceptance or at
least tolerance of these alternative lifestyles.
The movie Paris Is Burning is a documentary film exploring race, gender, and sexuality within the
African American and Latino gay and transgender communities of the ball culture of New York in the
mid to late 1980 s. Ball culture is a term used to describe the underground sub culture of LGBT people
who walk or compete for trophies in events known as balls. The film chronicles the ostentatiously
arranged competitions in which participants, within a very specific theme, must walk while being
judged on criteria such as the authenticity and beauty of their apparel and their dancing ability. Much
of the film shows footage of actual balls interspersed with interviews of prominent members of this
drag scene. The film shows people of different gender identities and their varied methods of
expressing themselves while also exploring how they cope with racism, AIDS, poverty, and
homophobia.
How to Survive a Plague is a documentary movie which depicts the early years of the AIDS epidemic
and the efforts of ACT UP and other groups. ACT UP, founded in March 1987, is an advocacy group
which supports legislation and medical research and treatment of AIDS victims. The film used
archived footage of news coverage, interviews, protests, meetings, and conferences to chronicle the
struggles of AIDS activists from the start of the HIV/AIDS epidemic in New York City. It focused on
the efforts of these activists to obtain meaningful responses from medical

Fiber Optic Technology Essay
From the beginning, efficiency and speed in the telecommunications industry has advanced at a fast
pace owing to fiber optic technology. In 1979, AT T filled the telecommunications industry with
revolutionary ideas by developing a mode for data transmission using a light, called fiber optic cable.
This mode produced a bandwidth of 44.736 Mbps and could multiplex 672 trunk circuits on one fiber
alone (Cole, M. 2000). However, this development was merely the start of a huge extension to
telecommunications, something that would transform the industry constantly.

accomplishment was the erbium doped fiber amplifier, which admitted numerous channels of light to
coexist on a single circuit. This fiber amplifier rendered sufficient channels for single fiber cable to
manage 80 million telephone calls at the same time (Greatest Achievements, 2000).
Nowadays, fiber optic technology carries data by distributing light pulses along slim strands of plastic
or glass fiber by means of a laser or light emitting diode (LED). Strands of fiber are comprised of
three major components: the core, cladding, and buffer coating. The contained by part of the fiber is
called the core. A fiber s core is the pathway where the light passes through. Encompassing the core is
optical matter called cladding. Cladding recurrently reflects light pulses stimulating the pulses to pass
through easily by way of the fiber core. The buffer coating functions as a covering for the cladding
and the core by shielding it from external elements, for example, moisture (Fotec, 1996).
The glass fibers that constitute the core of the fiber strands employed in contemporary fiber optic
systems are generally established on pure sand. Fiber created from regular glass utilized in windows is
polluted that impurities

The Beat Generation s Effect On Jitterbug Perfume
Beat Generation s Effect on Jitterbug Perfume In the Novel Jitterbug Perfume, many themes and ideas
from the Beat Generation can be found. The Beat Generation was a movement developed by young
people who rejected conventional society in the late 1950 s. The idea of the generation was strictly
based on modern Jazz, free sexuality, recreational drugs, and rejecting standard ways. Developing
sexuality, depending on drugs and the pursuit in individuality we taken from the Generation and

The idea of have multiple wives was very unusual and it was not common and hard grasp by many of
the characters. Just like the homosexual not being normal during the Beat Generation, the idea of
Alobar s open relationship was not normal to the reader. Robbins uses the strange sexuality from the
Beat Generation and put his unique twist on the open relationship that was seen in the novel. Later in
the book you see the sexual liberation between Alobar and Kudra s relationship. On page 178 Robbins
describes the incredible amount of sex they would have thoughout the day. The interesting thing that
Robbins include was the fact that the would have sex but wouldn t reach the point of orgasm because

Just the effect sex had on their chance to find their new sexuality during the beat generation, the idea

the early hallucinations to the heavily chemical based drugs becoming popular now and each one had
a specific effect on the brain. These drugs have been and will always be a part of society; no matter

The first and last thing you have to recall about hand to hand fighting is that it is a field of order that

Why Should The Burqa Not Be Banned Case Study
An abundant deal of confusion surrounds the burqa and the dispute of it being worn in Western
countries. Lately in media, there has been several multiculturalism disputes surrounding Muslims. The
disputes are regarding whether or not Muslims should be permitted to wear burqas. Many would
concur that prohibiting burqas is discriminating against Muslims rights in choosing religion. In a
multicultural society such as America, individuals should be free to express their own religious faith
and display religious symbols such as burqas.
From an ethical standpoint, the burqa should not be banned. Any individual has the basic human right
to be able to live his life and to express himself in any environment that is protected and equal.

The reason for Elauf not obtaining the job was because of her headscarf. The headscarf conflicted with
the company s look policy, a code derived from Abercrombie s focus on what it calls East Coast
collegiate or preppy style (Liptak). Elauf did not reference her headscarf in the course of her interview
and did not specify that she would need an accommodation from the Look Policy. Elauf s interviewer
likewise did not comment on the headscarf, though she made contact with the district manager, who
advised her to decrease Elauf s evaluation on the appearance portion of the application. Decreasing
Elauf s evaluation in turn lowered her overall score and prevented her from acquiring the job. Due to
these circumstances, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission sued Abercrombie and Fitch on
Elauf s behalf. Ultimately, this case made it to the Supreme Court level in 2015. The Supreme Court
ruled against the merchant Abercrombie and Fitch, whom may have violated workplace discrimination
laws when it turned down a Muslim job applicant because she wore a hijab. An employer may not take

Justice Scalia ( Supreme ). The outcome of this case can be tremendously agreed upon. An individual,

The Political Economy Of Slavery Summary
Eugene D. Genovese s book, The Political Economy of Slavery: Studies in the Economy and Society
of the Slave South, challenges the accustomed belief which concluded the immorality of Slavery was
the underlying main factor of conflict between the North and the South, partnered with materialistic
interests. Instead, he presents the idea which observes the social system and civilization as a whole,
identifying its distinct structure and their reasoning behind their disagreeing actions. Drawing upon
information from four categories which highlight the main arguments, Genovese is able to convey that
the power Slavery gave to holders, dissimilated the appeal of a North bourgeois and industrialist

The harsh treatment placed upon slaves, contributed to the decrease of development, exposed to poor
conditions that fueled working resistance. Along with the immoral practice, Genovese reiterates that
soil exhaustion is crucial, limiting crop diversification, and that due to the lack of skills their source
labor possessed, adopting advanced farming techniques could be rather costly. Since the South failed
to consider as industrialism as a possible solution to their issues and the idea of achieve agricultural
reform was completely delusional, the economy plummeted. This problem called for change, but the
South was not willing to take the risk of improving their productivity and output if it meant sacrificing
their power structure. The South wanted to keep their classes as they were, with the slave holders at
the top of the pyramid and the slaves at the bottom. Slavery shape their civilization, so when they

which prevented Slavery to continue, the South viewed their cry for independence as rational to keep

Sleep Personal Statement
I have always been enchanted by the idea of sleep. As a child, I laid in bed attempting to understand
why I was unable to fall asleep. I knew I wasn t the only one, but the snoring of my family convinced
me otherwise. Biology taught me to understand genetics and environmental cues, but they were unable
to explain to me how my sleep pattern was different. Unable to figure the cause of my sleep problems,
I delved into self treatments instead. Curiosity for knowledge in sleep therapy prompted my interest in
understanding sleep consequences and health. Not many courses introduce the idea of sleep, so it had
only been a side interest. I was unaware of the seriousness of the problem and only wanted to
understand sleep disorders because I ve dealt with insomnia myself. Not until college did it occur to
me that sleep was serious enough that studying sleep was a profession. However, school has only
taught me the minimal basics of sleep. I wanted to understand the mechanism, the consequences, and
the treatments for sleep. Unable to get a better idea of sleep, I aimed to learn more about sleep
research. Eventually through graduate research, I would like to focus on understanding sleep and its
application in improving health. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

deaths of Romeo and Juliet because when Romeo was at the Capulet part he didn t let Tybalt do

Development Of Hybrid Colonial Architecture
Colonial architecture is a combination architectural style of a country that has been adapted from the
other countries characteristics, methods and influences. The colonists built settlements and create
hybrid designs that include their countries of origin with the design styles. Europeans came to
Southeast Asia during 16th century. The colonial vision was effectively imposed on Southeast Asia. At
the beginning of the 20th century, most of the Southeast Asia countries were controlled by the British,
Dutch, French and the Americans. Under this colonial rule, the late 19th and early 20th centuries was
a period of fast development of such as new architectural styles, modern construction methods and
techniques, railways, roads, etc. They changed the configurations, construction and methods to make
the buildings more sustainable and maintained.
This essay focuses on the development of hybrid colonial architecture in early 20th century in
Southeast Asia. The essay investigates the different styles of buildings in different locations and
explains how these types of architecture combined both European and local origins. It explains the
Dutch style in Indonesia and the British style in Singapore and Kuala Lumpur/Malaysia while giving

Essay on Machiavelli’s The Prince and the Modern Executive
The Prince and the Modern Executive
Few question The Prince s place in the canon of western literature. That it marks a turning point in our
collective history, the origin of the study of politics as a science (Pollock 43), is alone enough to
warrant its classification as a Great Book. Its author, Niccolo Machiavelli, a contemporary of
Copernicus, is generally accepted as an early contributor to the scientific revolution, because he
looked at power and the nature of sovereignty through the eyes of a scientist, focused completely on
the goal without regard for religion and morals and ethics. Machiavelli taught that the way princes
actually do govern often differs substantially from than the way they ought to govern, according to ...

A corporation has its king and its barons, its courtiers and ambassadors, its loyalists and its dissident
elements, its allies and its enemies. What is important to our application of his principles of statecraft
to the business world is not the superficial differences but the underlying unity. Modern corporations
that are successful and well managed do not necessarily operate in harmony with the personal morality
of their employees and for the general good of their communities. Similarly, firms which pollute the
environment or ask their employees to lie are not always forced into bankruptcy.
The individualism and secularism that characterized the Italian Renaissance are dominant themes in
Machiavelli s thinking. His use of historical examples throughout The Prince demonstrates an
extensive knowledge of Greek and Roman history and is consistent with the new found love for
antiquity of the Renaissance. Machiavelli was, in every sense of the word, a true renaissance man. He
appears to be remarkably well educated, although limited finances probably prevented him from
studying at a major university. As a result, the effect of humanist teachings, prevalent at most of the
institutions of higher learning at the time, on Machiavelli was limited. Machiavelli s knowledge of
specific details of politics is primarily the culmination of a life long career as a bureaucrat and
diplomat.

The Structure Is Based Upon Generally Accepted Accounting...
The structure is based upon generally accepted accounting principles (i.e. GAAP). It is focused on
utilizing a double entry system to understand what is happening and serve as a way of rechecking the
information. The sources of it include: the total debt, liabilities, revenues and credits. This helps
actuaries to determine where possible errors occurred and how to correct them. The business accounts
are showing the relationship the nonprofit has with suppliers and financial institutions. To effectively
control the budget, these organziations will use the double entry accounting system. This helps them
to monitor the inventory and recheck for any kind of issues inside the specific practices at a certain
hotel. There are not large variances from the budgeted to actual figures. This is because the firm uses
the GAAP method to book revenues when they were actually received. These procedures reduce the
possibility of misstating estimates and it ensures that the financial information is as accurate as
possible. However, recent changes in accounting standards for all organizations is leading to more
firms embracing IFRS standards. In the next five years, there is a very realistic possibility of a total
convergence in accounting standards and the implementation of them. This is because nonprofits are
becoming more globalized and have a number of investors from around the world. At the same time,
the lingering effects of the financial crisis are showing how there needs to be

King Stephen King Reflection
The video Stephen King on Childhood changed the way I look at things. He claims, the things that
really scare us are the things that are going on just outside the spotlight that you can t quite see (
Stephen King on Childhood ). The video starts off with Stephen King talking about a day he was
walking and came across a little girl on the side of the street drawing in the dirt talking to herself or an
imaginary person. Then, he thought to himself, If I did that, somebody would come along and say
there s a grown man sitting in the dirt, talking to himself to people who aren t there and drawing with
a stick ( Stephen King on Childhood ). If I saw a grown man doing that, I would be a little creeped
out. If a little kid was doing it, I would think that was a normal thing for kids to do. He is talking about
how when we are kids, we can think, imagine, and dream about whatever we want because there are
no limits. When we start growing up, we realize what reality is. We snap into this new mode and
change the way we think, imagine, and dream. When I was a kid, I would think the most bizarre
things, like when I would connect anything to a face, like cars, buildings, clouds, houses, etc. I would
try to explain it to my parents they would think I was crazy and had no idea what I was talking about.
Next, the interviewer, Thomas Smith, asks Stephen, Did you have a highly developed sense of evil
yourself as a child or were you obsessed by the nature of evil? (Stephen King on Childhood). King
then goes on to ask why people ask about his childhood. He does not remember having an unusual
childhood. Then, because of him not remembering, something bad must have happened when he was a
kid. King then goes on to talk about, I think a lot of people make the assumption that we block
memories that are terrible. When I think what really happens is this: that we think in a different way as
children. we tend to think around corners instead of in straight lines. sometimes for a kid, the shortest
distance between two points is not a straight line and that s the way that we think and dream (Stephen
King on Childhood). He says he uses this thought to connect childhood memories to his paranormal
present time stories. I think that

Custody Of A Child Essay
Twenty three percent of kids are living with a single mother (lecture notes). Let s be honest the
majority of the time when it comes to custody for a child the mother wins. There even use to be a law

situation. The reason why the mother usually gets custody of a child could be sexual stereotype.
Woman are the back bone of this country without them men wouldn t be the men who they are so that
might be the reasoning behind woman getting custody most of the time. Why being a single mother is

Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy
Yoga, a popular exercise, is classified as a movement form of meditation. It is often included in
Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) programs to treat chronic depression anxiety
disorders, and even ADHD. Several studies realized that MBCT was used as an adaptation of MBSR
Therapy to address developmental needs of school age children. Harvard professor, Sat Bir Khalsa
(2013) agrees that yoga in schools helps students improve resilience, mood, and self regulation skills
pertaining to emotions and stress. On the same note, Langoiyen (2013) sees the wisdom in the practice
and suggests for yoga to be learned as a tool for listening to the heart.
Hagen (2014) proposes yoga as a potential tool for the youth to deal with stress and regulate
themselves. According to Hagen (2014): Pre schools, schools, and community centers should offer
yoga as part of the opportunities for children and young people to enjoy learning and practicing it
from an early age. Obviously, the results of such an investment can be observed over the long term by

What Is The Theme Of Killing Lizards
Killing lizards
All children search for attention, love and acceptance through their childhood. If a child doesn t
receive attention, love and acceptance, in which way can they find the trust to be themselves? They
will be stuck in an uncertain world, where they have no trust in themselves and difficult to evolve their
identity.
In the short story, killing lizards, the main charachter is the 12 year old English boy, Gavin. Gavin s
family moved to Africa to years before the story takes place. Gavin seems to be like any other
common boy, but the reality is something else. Gavin misses attention from his mother, and wishes
that she could pay more attention to him. He is especially jealous of his sister Amanda because he
believes that she grabs all the attention from their mother. That is very clear in this quote. (Page 3,
lines 63 64 he wished she bothered about him more, did things with him as she did with Amanda .)

This is because his father and sister are two rivals for him, in the battle for his mother s love, but if
they die, Gavin would be the only one who receives the mother s love. He is well aware that it s
wrong, and he tries to stop thinking about it, but deep inside he wants the dream to become a reality.
These fantasies are obviously because of a strong Oedipus complex between the child and his mother,
which is evidently seen in the way he wants people to think of them in his fantasy. (Page 2, lines 31
34: People would look at them in the street and whisper, I don t know what she would have done
without him and Yes, he s been wonderful and They re so close now .) These fantasies are entirely
naturally expectable for a child who clearly doesn t get maternal attention and love enough, and it is
clearly seen in this quote. (Page 3, lines 56 61: Oh. Well I m going out too.

Comparing Jack London s To Build A Fire And The Open Boat
Nature is an outlet to rejuvenate, a home to millions of organisms, and a supplier of provisioning
resources. However, the greatest provider for mankind is also the most destructive force on planet
Earth with the ability to obliterate millions of lives. With technology rapidly increasing, allowing
humans to accurately foresee weather patterns and construct buildings that are resistant to natural
disaster, several people believe that they have conquered the natural world. Nonetheless, the reality is
that nature always triumphs over humans as can be seen through Jack London s short story titled To

As a matter of fact, in To Build a Fire and The Open Boat, nature overrides the characters efforts to
preserve their lives in the freezing arctic and the sea. In To Build a Fire, the protagonist takes great
measures to preserve his life from hypothermia in the 75 degrees below weather, but each time, nature
works against his will. For instance, as he finally succeeds in building a fire to heat his body, an
unexpected pile of snow falls off from the tree above him, dousing the flame: The snow fell without
warning upon the man and the fire, and the fire was dead (London 10). Nature combats against the
man s effort to warm his body, by eliminating an essential source for his survival, heat. Similarly, in
the other story, the power of nature overrules a decision that the captain makes to elude the waves
[that] continued pushing and turning and washing the boat (Crane 4). To specify, the captain orders the
oiler and the correspondent to head towards the shore to avoid the waves. However, as the dinghy
approaches closer to land, the waves get stronger forcing them to turn back to the open sea. The
captain says, We ll never be able to reach the lighthouse now. Swing her back north, Billie. We ll
overturn (Crane 5). The failure to escape the tempestuous sea and the lack of success in building a fire
in the other story elucidates

Why Wrestlers Cut Weight
A big part of wrestling is cutting weight. Wrestlers cut weight all the time, but what are the effects of
them cutting weight. Most of us know why wrestlers cut weight. They cut weight to wrestle a lighter
weight class with smaller guys. Some wrestlers don t know what kind of long term effects that cutting
weight is causing them. Although cutting weight may be worth it, there are also many negative effects
that come from it. One of the main reasons I stopped cutting weight was because I was drained of my
energy. When cutting, you don t get to eat a lot of food. When you don t eat enough food, your energy
is completely drained. Without this energy, a wrestler can barely last two minutes out of a six minute
match. By the end of the first period, a wrestler cutting weight is already too tired to compete
anymore. It doesn t just have an effect on the mat live wrestling, but it also affects wrestlers in
practice. When they are drained of energy in practice, they can t give 100%. A big reason why they
can t give 100% is because they don t have 100%. If a wrestler can t give 100% at practice, that
transfers over to a live match. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Food security is often times looked upon as just the availability of food, but safety and hygiene of food and food products gets overlooked. For example, many developing countries don t have the specific education needed to know that certain chemicals, such as pesticides, insecticides, and herbicides, should only be applied during certain growth stages of crops. This causes the consumption of these crops to be very harmful to individuals. Food insecurities are causing many problems, leading to malnourishment, famines, and death in developing countries. Many countries within ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another major task they need to incorporate into their government would be implementing agricultural and food policies that will be effective and help the economy. Although, this may be hard to accomplish due to the violence and corrupt government in Nigeria. Justice could be the ethical argument behind this, because many people are suffering from unfairness from the jihadists. They are stealing people s possessions, food, and animals that they live off from. They are unable to make any money from the crops that they had grown, animals they raised, and are going hungry from this, causing food insecurities and malnutrition throughout the country. Nigeria in not the only country in Africa facing these problematic situations. Al Hudayah in Yemen is also suffering from war and government conflicts. The Saudi jets have been attacking and bombing villages throughout Yemen. This has caused a sudden decrease in many people s income, which is making it hard for individuals to buy food for themselves and their families. Again, this hunger crisis with severe acute malnutrition could lead to famine very shortly if no steps are taken to overcome the problem. The ethical argument behind the situation that Yemen is currently facing could also be justice or rights. This is because it is unfair for a country to be suffering due to conflict or war. They were sent to that particular region by Sir Walter Raleigh with the assignment of exploring the extensive sounds and estuaries in hunt of an ideal location for settlement. On April 27, 1584, Raleigh dispatched a journey led by Phillip Amadas and Arthur Barlowe to search for the Eastern coast of North America. They arrived on Roanoke Island on July 4, and almost immediately recognized relations with the local citizens, the Sectoans and Croatans. Barlowe returned to England with two Croatans named Manteo and Wanchese, who were able to explain the government and natural features of the region to Raleigh. Based on this knowledge, Raleigh prepared a second journey, to be led by Sir Richard Grenville. Greenville s convoy departed Plymouth on April 9, 1585, with five major ships: the Tiger (Grenville s), the Roebuck, the Red Lion, the Elizabeth, and the Dorothy. Consequently, a harsh rainstorm off the shore of Portugal divided the Tiger from the rest of the convoy. The captains had an unforeseen event plan if they were divided, which was to get together up again in Puerto Rico, and the Tiger reached in the Baye of Muskito (Guayanilla Bay) on May 11. While anticipating for the additional ships, Grenville recognized relations with the Spanish there while concurrently engaging in some privateering in opposition to them, and also built a fort. The Elizabeth arrived almost immediately after the fort s creation. Eventually, Grenville worn out off anticipating or the remaining ships, and departed on June 7. The fort was discarded, and its site remains unknown. When the Tiger sailed through Ocracoke Inlet on June 26, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Maple Syr Up Research Paper How to make Maple Syrup My family has been making maple syrup for over 100 years. My siblings, cousins, and I are the 6th generation of syrup makers in our family. Everyone in the family has their part to play during the 6 week long syrup season. The process of making maple syrup is a long and hard one but in the end it s totally worth all of the loss of sleep, frozen and aching limbs, and the extra time we take out of our lives to make syrup every year. Our family usually starts the season on Valentine s Day as a family tradition to start drilling in the woods and to get all of the firewood we need ready for the entire season. For the whole 6 week season we need to use 30 chords of firewood to use during the evaporation process. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first grade is called Grade A it has three different ambers and is mostly used on the table. There is light amber, which is light in color and delicate in taste. Medium amber has a mellow flavor to it and medium in color. The dark amber is obviously dark in color and full flavored. The next grade is B which is mostly used in the kitchen but personally, this is my favorite grade of syrup. It is more robust in flavor and it is used mostly to cook with. The next grade is C which is the commercial syrup. We don t usually sell this stuff off our shelves to the customers but it still has a good maple flavor. The last grade is grade D which is the nastiest syrup of the season. Its what we call Buddy Syrup . It has that name because since it s the last sap of the season collected, it has a bitter taste to it from the buds of the trees. We don t sell it or even bother putting it in the jugs like the rest of the syrup. We put it in the stainless steel drums and it gets taken to factories that make the syrup sold in grocery stores. So, the factories take 2% of the Buddy Syrup , and 98% water and corn syrup and mix it all together and send it to grocery stores all over and most people buy it that way. The buddy syrup can also be used to sweeten tobacco and horse feed. It can also turn out to look just like the other grades that we actually sell to customers. • 6. Women s Rights in the 19th Century and Now Essay It would be a huge understatement to say that many things have changed when it comes to women s rights, positions, and roles in our society today since the 19th century. Actually, very few similarities remain. Certain family values, such as specific aspects of domesticity and performance of family duties are amongst the only similarities still present. Victorian women had several hardships to overcome. Education, marriage, leisure, and travel amongst other things were limited and controlled. A woman was never to travel if not in the company of her parents or husband. Leisure, for example, was limited and a woman always had to look busy and find something to do. They did not have the right to vote, sue or own any property. Their bodies ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This resulted in her share of criticism from the media and her readers. In a time when it was expected of a woman to behave a certain way and sexual desire was considered something only experienced by men, Kate Chopin spoke with exceptional openness about human sexuality. She then criticized society for its close mindedness. She helped to generate enlightened attitudes among both the women and men of her time. By not only admitting the fact that a woman has strong sexual desires, but also glorifying it, Chopin opened doors to better communication and understanding between men and women as a result of The Storm. This has changed significantly since the 19th century. Sex, amongst others, is no longer taboo to women and it has become a much more liberated subject. It is encouraged and accepted in today s society that a woman enjoys sexual pleasures outside the restraints of only pregnancy, even marriage. Women in the Victorian era had very little to say when it came to marriage. Usually, the parents of the woman would make the choice for her as to whom she would marry based on a man s social status. It was not odd for a 15 year old girl to wed, unlike in today s society. Parents would usually look for a man who was wealthy enough to help the woman advance in her life, since women were mostly uneducated and only taught to be homemakers and mothers and not work. The slowdown in the IT spending globally According to information technology industry estimates, global IT spending growth has been 2% which is smaller than the previous forecast of 4.1% for 2013. The decrease in the IT spending by enterprises as the cut on capital expenditure is due to economic uncertainties prevailing globally which could negatively impact the IBM s revenue growth. Competition from offshore players The competition from offshore players has been increasing in recently. Offshore IT outsourcers are selling directly to the end users and in this way they compete directly with the local suppliers of these services such as IBM. This phenomenon creates a highly competitive industry which makes companies to continually search for ways to differentiate themselves from their competitors. SlowGrowth in the hardware segment One of the main problems is the slow growth in the hardware segment. IBM sales growth has been flat in the last quarters because the company has been unable to successfully close new multimillion dollars hardware and software deals in the last year because of the bad economic conditions. The hardware sales have been declining because different firms prefer moving to cloud services which run largely on low cost hardware often custom build for cloud architectures. This is abundantly evident in Arizona, where the majority of us drive to most all of our activities from going to work or taking the kids for an ice cream. We jump into our vehicle and go. During that time period, the acquisition of new territories was encouraged as a means of expanding profit by investing capital in the various territories (Seton Watson, 1961). In order to meet the constantly growing demands brought on by the industrial revolution, imperialist countries sought to expand their territories even further (Seton Watson, 1961). One major benefit of the expansion was an increase in amount of raw materials available. Another benefit of acquiring territories included cheap labour which was a necessity due to the expanding industries (Seton Watson, 1961). Economic growth was another benefit of territorial expansion as there were more markets to trade with. This second wave of imperialism encouraged imperialist countries to take political control of their colonies (Seton Watson, 1961). Two films that evolved out of these awareness campaigns were the documentaries Paris Is Burning and How to Survive a Plague . Both films, although in significantly diverse ways, provide a window into the alternative lifestyles of LGBT people of the times and the problems and issues they faced. A comparison of these two documentaries demonstrates the initial fears of the public and affected people and the beginnings of acceptance or at least tolerance of these alternative lifestyles. The film chronicles the ostentatiously arranged competitions in which participants, within a very specific theme, must walk while being judged on criteria such as the authenticity and beauty of their apparel and their dancing ability. Much of the film shows footage of actual balls interspersed with interviews of prominent members of this drag scene. The film shows people of different gender identities and their varied methods of expressing themselves while also exploring how they cope with racism, AIDS, poverty, and homophobia. This fiber amplifier rendered sufficient channels for single fiber cable to manage 80 million telephone calls at the same time (Greatest Achievements, 2000). Nowadays, fiber optic technology carries data by distributing light pulses along slim strands of plastic or glass fiber by means of a laser or light emitting diode (LED). Strands of fiber are comprised of three major components: the core, cladding, and buffer coating. The contained by part of the fiber is called the core. Similarly, firms which pollute the environment or ask their employees to lie are not always forced into bankruptcy. The individualism and secularism that characterized the Italian Renaissance are dominant themes in Machiavelli s thinking. His use of historical examples throughout The Prince demonstrates an extensive knowledge of Greek and Roman history and is consistent with the new found love for antiquity of the Renaissance. Machiavelli was, in every sense of the word, a true renaissance man. He appears to be remarkably well educated, although limited finances probably prevented him from studying at a major university. As a result, the effect of humanist teachings, prevalent at most of the institutions of higher learning at the time, on Machiavelli was limited. Machiavelli s knowledge of specific details of politics is primarily the culmination of a life long career as a bureaucrat and diplomat. In The Prince, Machiavelli ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 28. The Structure Is Based Upon Generally Accepted Accounting... The structure is based upon generally accepted accounting principles (i.e. GAAP). It is focused on utilizing a double entry system to understand what is happening and serve as a way of rechecking the information. The sources of it include: the total debt, liabilities, revenues and credits. This helps actuaries to determine where possible errors occurred and how to correct them. The business accounts are showing the relationship the nonprofit has with suppliers and financial institutions. To effectively control the budget, these organziations will use the double entry accounting system. This helps them to monitor the inventory and recheck for any kind of issues inside the specific practices at a certain hotel. There are not large variances from the budgeted to actual figures. This is because the firm uses the GAAP method to book revenues when they were actually received. These procedures reduce the possibility of misstating estimates and it ensures that the financial information is as accurate as possible. However, recent changes in accounting standards for all organizations is leading to more firms embracing IFRS standards. In the next five years, there is a very realistic possibility of a total convergence in accounting standards and the implementation of them. This is because nonprofits are becoming more globalized and have a number of investors from around the world. At the same time, the lingering effects of the financial crisis are showing how there needs to be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. King Stephen King Reflection The video Stephen King on Childhood changed the way I look at things. He claims, the things that really scare us are the things that are going on just outside the spotlight that you can t quite see ( Stephen King on Childhood ). The video starts off with Stephen King talking about a day he was walking and came across a little girl on the side of the street drawing in the dirt talking to herself or an imaginary person. Then, he thought to himself, If I did that, somebody would come along and say there s a grown man sitting in the dirt, talking to himself to people who aren t there and drawing with a stick ( Stephen King on Childhood ). If I saw a grown man doing that, I would be a little creeped out. If a little kid was doing it, I would think that was a normal thing for kids to do. He is talking about how when we are kids, we can think, imagine, and dream about whatever we want because there are no limits. When we start growing up, we realize what reality is. We snap into this new mode and change the way we think, imagine, and dream. When I was a kid, I would think the most bizarre things, like when I would connect anything to a face, like cars, buildings, clouds, houses, etc. I would try to explain it to my parents they would think I was crazy and had no idea what I was talking about. Next, the interviewer, Thomas Smith, asks Stephen, Did you have a highly developed sense of evil yourself as a child or were you obsessed by the nature of evil? (Stephen King on Childhood). King then goes on to ask why people ask about his childhood. He does not remember having an unusual childhood. Then, because of him not remembering, something bad must have happened when he was a kid. King then goes on to talk about, I think a lot of people make the assumption that we block memories that are terrible. When I think what really happens is this: that we think in a different way as children. we tend to think around corners instead of in straight lines. sometimes for a kid, the shortest distance between two points is not a straight line and that s the way that we think and dream (Stephen King on Childhood). He says he uses this thought to connect childhood memories to his paranormal present time stories. I think that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. Custody Of A Child Essay Twenty three percent of kids are living with a single mother (lecture notes). Let s be honest the majority of the time when it comes to custody for a child the mother wins. There even use to be a law in some states where if a couple divorced the mother would get custody, however that is no longer the situation. • 31. Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy Yoga, a popular exercise, is classified as a movement form of meditation. It is often included in Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) programs to treat chronic depression anxiety disorders, and even ADHD. Several studies realized that MBCT was used as an adaptation of MBSR Therapy to address developmental needs of school age children. Harvard professor, Sat Bir Khalsa (2013) agrees that yoga in schools helps students improve resilience, mood, and self regulation skills pertaining to emotions and stress. On the same note, Langoiyen (2013) sees the wisdom in the practice and suggests for yoga to be learned as a tool for listening to the heart. Hagen (2014) proposes yoga as a potential tool for the youth to deal with stress and regulate themselves. According to Hagen (2014): Pre schools, schools, and community centers should offer yoga as part of the opportunities for children and young people to enjoy learning and practicing it from an early age. Obviously, the results of such an investment can be observed over the long term by having future generations experience less stress. Mindfulness programs have ... Also, there seems to be no standardized number of participants among mindfulness programs, but Thompson Gilbert (2008) suggest that groups can definitely contribute to the potency of teaching mindfulness. There is a strong suggestion that the format should be experiential and avoid boring or irrelevant practices, or there is a possible risk for boredom to be transmitted among the participants. But one of the more important things to consider is when working with children, facilitators should begin by emphasizing how mindfulness practices could be useful in their lives more generally (Thompson Gilbert ... • 32. What Is The Theme Of Killing Lizards Killing lizards All children search for attention, love and acceptance through their childhood. If a child doesn t receive attention, love and acceptance, in which way can they find the trust to be themselves? They will be stuck in an uncertain world, where they have no trust in themselves and difficult to evolve their identity. In the short story, killing lizards, the main charachter is the 12 year old English boy, Gavin. Gavin s family moved to Africa to years before the story takes place. Gavin seems to be like any other common boy, but the reality is something else. Gavin misses attention from his mother, and wishes that she could pay more attention to him. He is especially jealous of his sister Amanda because he believes that she grabs all the attention from their mother. That is very clear in this quote. (Page 3, lines 63 64 he wished she bothered about him more, did things with him as she did with Amanda .) Gavin frequently dreams about his father and sister dying in ... He is well aware that it s wrong, and he tries to stop thinking about it, but deep inside he wants the dream to become a reality. These fantasies are obviously because of a strong Oedipus complex between the child and his mother, which is evidently seen in the way he wants people to think of them in his fantasy. (Page 2, lines 31 34: People would look at them in the street and whisper, I don t know what she would have done without him and Yes, he s been wonderful and They re so close now .) • 33. Comparing Jack London s To Build A Fire And The Open Boat Nature is an outlet to rejuvenate, a home to millions of organisms, and a supplier of provisioning resources. However, the greatest provider for mankind is also the most destructive force on planet Earth with the ability to obliterate millions of lives. With technology rapidly increasing, allowing humans to accurately foresee weather patterns and construct buildings that are resistant to natural disaster, several people believe that they have conquered the natural world. Nonetheless, the reality is that nature always triumphs over humans as can be seen through Jack London s short story titled To Build a Fire and The Open Boat by Stephen Crane. As a matter of fact, in To Build a Fire and The Open Boat, nature overrides the characters efforts to preserve their lives in the freezing arctic and the sea. In To Build a Fire, the protagonist takes great measures to preserve his life from hypothermia in the 75 degrees below weather, but each time, nature works against his will. For instance, as he finally succeeds in building a fire to heat his body, an unexpected pile of snow falls off from the tree above him, dousing the flame: The snow fell without warning upon the man and the fire, and the fire was dead (London 10). Nature combats against the man s effort to warm his body, by eliminating an essential source for his survival, heat. Similarly, in the other story, the power of nature overrules a decision that the captain makes to elude the waves [that] continued pushing and turning and washing the boat (Crane 4). To specify, the captain orders the oiler and the correspondent to head towards the shore to avoid the waves. However, as the dinghy approaches closer to land, the waves get stronger forcing them to turn back to the open sea. The captain says, We ll never be able to reach the lighthouse now. Swing her back north, Billie. We ll overturn (Crane 5). The failure to escape the tempestuous sea and the lack of success in building a fire in the other story elucidates ... • 34. Why Wrestlers Cut Weight A big part of wrestling is cutting weight. Wrestlers cut weight all the time, but what are the effects of them cutting weight. Most of us know why wrestlers cut weight. They cut weight to wrestle a lighter weight class with smaller guys. Some wrestlers don t know what kind of long term effects that cutting weight is causing them. Although cutting weight may be worth it, there are also many negative effects that come from it. One of the main reasons I stopped cutting weight was because I was drained of my energy. When cutting, you don t get to eat a lot of food. When you don t eat enough food, your energy is completely drained. Without this energy, a wrestler can barely last two minutes out of a six minute match. By the end of the first period, a wrestler cutting weight is already too tired to compete anymore. It doesn t just have an effect on the mat live wrestling, but it also affects wrestlers in practice. When they are drained of energy in practice, they can t give 100%. A big reason why they can t give 100% is because they don t have 100%. If a wrestler can t give 100% at practice, that transfers over to a live match. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When cutting weight, the first thing you lose is your muscle.
