The aim of this report is develop an understanding of types of hazards and have a better
understanding of strategies and ways to manage disaster.
Definition
Climate change is a change in a Earth's climate. It could be a change in a place's usual temperature
or a change in a how much rain a place usually gets in a year.
Introduction
Climate changes has begun to cause a wide range of physical impacts with a serious harm for
tourism and the earth itself. According to science, it shows that climate change is becoming more
frequent and intense, and that the impacts are expected to grow over the coming years.
Climate impacts, such as rising sea levels, floods, storms, increasing temperatures and changing
weather pattern can pose a big threat to tourism industries and companies.
Main body
On of the biggest cause of climate change is carbon–dioxide which come primarily from the burning
of coal for electricity and heat in transportation, and from the burning of coal, oil, and natural gas in
industrial activity. Carbon dioxide produced in the burning of these fossil fuels have been hugely
responsible for the climate crisis. That is why most discussion of how to solve the climate crisis
mainly focuses on producing energy in ways that will not produce dangerous emissions of Carbon
dioxide. The burning of oil, coil and natural gas is not only the largest source of carbon dioxide but
it also is a source of increasing warming pollution.
The next largest source of human caused

Construction and Demolition waste in short C&D waste is a worldwide issue that concerns not only
the construction activities on–site and managers but also the SD of construction industry. In this
study, detailed formulas are listed for calculating the costs of three typical kinds of disposal
processes of C&D waste. They are Landfill Disposal process V, Recycling process P, and Reuse

Waste includes both the demolition wastes and construction waste, which generate additional costs
but do not add value to the building(Koskela 1992). Demolition waste are much morethan

growing rapidly in building sector. there are many shortcomings in the field of waste management:
Waste management relies mainly on land filling, the rate of simple and uncontrolled disposal is still
very high in building sector. The composition of the waste is very complex, with high water content
and hazardous substances such as asbestos. The different solid waste fractions are mixed up, thereby
hindering the efficient reuse(process S) and classification of the waste. The mix–disposal of waste
causes pollutions that are not going to be ignored. Maghale Xiamen2013

8. Environment Studies
CHAPTER NO: 01 1. Define the importance of Environmental Studies. Answer: Environment is
derived from the French word Environ which means to encircle or surround. ENVIRONMENT is
sum total of water, air, and land, inter–relationships among themselves and also with the human
beings, other living organisms and property. The above definition given in Environment Act, 1986
clearly indicates that environment includes all the physical and biological surroundings and their
interactions. ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES: It is multidisciplinary in nature covering chemistry,

into consideration. 3. Discuss the global environmental crisis in brief. Answer: 1) Global destruction
of forests and phytoplankton in the oceans (these capture carbon dioxide – 59% land, 41% oceans –
hold moisture and soil, preserve species, moderate the environment and give off oxygen). 2) World
wide soil erosion and desertification (the world has lost 1/5 of its arable land in the last decade).
Causes: raising beef, lumbering, use of word for fuel, clear cutting for crops or profit). 3) Worldwide
burning of fossil fuels, primarily oil and coal, and burning of wood in the third world. 4) Harming of
forests, lakes, and their ecosystems by acid rain (including Alaska, Canada, Norway, Eastern U.S.,
Germany, etc.) 5) Proliferation of nuclear waste hazards, and massive amounts of other toxic waste.
6) World wide shrinking of fresh water supplied through pollution and diminishing aquifers. 7)
Spreading ozone holes resulting from long lasting chlorofluorocarbon gases. 8) Massive extinction
of species worldwide connected with the above factors. 9) Flooding of coastal areas world–wide as
the ocean levels rise: displacing hundreds of millions of people and burying a large portion of the
world's prime agricultural lands.

10. Red Bull
Background of Key Problem
The success of Red Bull majorly lies behind their unique marketing strategy which is usually called
guerilla marketing, buzz marketing or in simpler words, marketing based completely on Below–the–
line activities, word of mouth, endorsements etc. This unconventional marketing has been applied in
Pakistan also where instead of executing Above–the–line promotions (which usually work very well
in Pakistan and communicate to a larger audience), they have stuck to their unusual styles of
marketing and have up till now sustained their position. But whether or not these unconventional
strategies can carry on being effective with competitors like Sting and Speed emerging and keeping

upper class of the society. Social class: The consumption of Red Bull has become a symbol of high
class and status.
c) Behavioral Variables Usage Rate: It is high in places of functionality of energy i.e. sports events,
parties, concerts etc. Also high at cafes where Red Bull consumption in Sheesha has become a huge
attraction for Sheesha lovers. Use Situation: Most popularly used at parties, concerts, gigs, sports
events, university events and at cafes. It is also consumed at times of increased mental and physical
strain.
Market Need
In our Pakistani culture where body and mind revitalizers are usually tea and coffee, Red Bull aims
to provide a different option to people who do not consume tea or coffee. It is a beverage that is
solely for energy revitalization. Red Bull primarily aims to provide energy boosters at times of
increased mental and physical strain. For instance, the hectic traffic in Pakistan is never an easy
thing to go through and a Red Bull after that helps energize you. Other instances are consumption
during intensive working days, sports activities and also for students before and after exams. The
need for energy revitalization is already there in the Pakistani market and which is popularly being
fulfilled by tea or coffee. However, Red Bull aims to provide an option to all those who are not tea
or coffee lovers. Depicted as

12. Risk Analysis For The Republic Of Nicaragua
Introduction of Risk Analysis for the Republic of Nicaragua A risk analysis is a compilation of
detailed factors weaved together to determine the likelihood of success or failure for a project, goal,
or investment. Businesses use these to determine the viability or feasibility of a new product,
initiative, or opening into a new market segment. A country risk analysis is simply the extension of a
risk analysis to include an entire country. In essence, a country risk analysis is a tool used to identify
the risks associated with opening a business, creating trade agreements, or investing in a country. A
country risk analysis is very important because it takes into account many factors including the
current and past political climate, economic risk, geography and climate risks, cultures, and laws
pertaining to the country being analyzed. Often, countries are given a grade to enable a quick
comparison to how risky investing in one country is compared to another country. It is important to
indicate that a country risk analysis is not static. As factors of the analysis change within the
country, the risk of investing in that country also changes. These analyses are fluid and are always
fluctuating. Changes can be indicative of deliberate governmental action taken by the country while
other times the risks may change because of an action other countries have taken. The purpose of
this paper is to create a risk analysis for the Republic of Nicaragua and to explain the

14. Climate Change And Subsistence Farming
2.2 Climate Change and Subsistence Farming
Climate change has the potential to transform food production, especially the patterns and
productivity of crops, livestock, and fishery systems; and to reconfigure food distribution, markets,
and access (Nelson et al., 2009). Chen et al. (2012) observed that climate change has already had a
negative impact on Asia through extreme temperatures, frequent flooding and droughts, sea level
rise, and increased salinity of water supplies for rainfed agricultural areas. Most Asian countries are
quite dependent on their domestic supplies of rice. The International Rice Commission (2003)
indicates that Bangladesh, China, India, Indonesia, and Vietnam are the major producers of rice,
producing more than 70% of the world's volume. The Asian rice–producing countries tend to
consume most of their domestic rice production. Nevertheless, Thailand and Vietnam are able to
export some rice to neighboring countries such as Bangladesh, Indonesia, and the Philippines.
Dasgupta et al. (2009) identified ten developing countries whose land areas are most exposed to the
potential threat of a one–meter rise in sea level. Among the countries most affected by sea level rise
are Bangladesh, China, Taiwan, and Vietnam and these are all rice–growing and rice–consuming
countries. Using a partial equilibrium global rice trade model, Chen et al. (2012) investigated the
potential impact of sea level rise combined with climate–induced crop yield change on global rice

16. A Brief Note On Diabetic Foot Ulcers And Diabetes
Diabetic Foot Ulcers Abigail McBrien Introduction Diabetes, Diabetes Mellitus, is a condition that
affects either the pancreas 's ability to produce insulin, or the body 's ability to effectively use the
insulin produced. A common effect of diabetes is hyperglycemia – raised blood sugar (World Health
Organisation 1999). The World Health Organisation states that, in 2014, the world prevalence of
diabetes amongst adults (aged over 18) was 9% (World Health Organisation 2012). The organisation
also estimates that more than 347million people worldwide, including 2.9million in the UK alone,
have diabetes (Diabetes 2015). There are two types of diabetes. Type one, often referred to as
juvenile diabetes, is common amongst children. It can, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey has found that more than 2 out of
3 adults is overweight or obese. This same survey found that 1 in 3 children and teenagers (aged six
to nineteen) are overweight or obese. Being overweight or obese at such a young age will likely
cause these children to develop many serious conditions later on in life, including: coronary heart
disease, type two diabetes, and even some types of cancer. This paper will focus on a common,
though not inevitable, side effect of Diabetes – Diabetic Foot Ulcers. An ulcer is a wound or sore
that fails to heal correctly or at all. In well–developed countries, it is estimated that the annual
incidence of foot ulcers in diabetic patients is 2%. However, in less–developed countries, where
diabetes is more common, it is estimated to be much higher (Boulton 2005). The leading cause of
hospitalisation, of diabetic patients, is foot disorders including ulceration, gangrene, and infection
(Boulton 2005). Unfortunately, due to infection or severe ischaemia, an inadequate blood supply, a
large number of these cases will result in amputation. Approximately 85 percent of all diabetes–
related foot amputations, are predated by foot ulcers (Pecoraro 1990). In the US, patients with a
diabetic foot ulcer see their outpatient carers on average fourteen times a year, and are hospitalised

18. Causes And Consequences Of Premature Birth Essay
Introduction Babies born before thirty–seven weeks gestation are considered to be preterm, or
premature. More than one in every ten babies is born too early. Preterm birth complications are the
leading cause of death among children under five years of age. Premature birth has a wide range of
effects. All babies born before thirty–seven weeks gestation are at risk for complications that can
have a lasting effect on the growing baby and family. At twenty–four weeks, the survival rate of a
premature baby is only fifty percent. The many different causes and effects that premature birth can
have on the baby, his/her future development and family will be further discussed in this paper. At
birth a baby is considered one of the following: "Premature (less than thirty–seven weeks gestation),
Full term (thirty–seven to forty–two weeks gestation), Post term (born after forty–two weeks
gestation)" (Kaneshiro). A premature baby is not fully developed due to exiting the womb prior to
reaching full term. Due to this complication, premies will spend time in the NICU (Neonatal
Intensive Care Unit) if the doctor deems it necessary. A baby born at full term weighs somewhere
between five pounds eight ounces and eight pound thirteen ounces. A baby born at thirty–two weeks
weighs somewhere around three and a half pounds, twenty–eight weeks two and a half pounds, and
twenty–four weeks one and a half pounds. This low birth weight and underdevelopment causes

21. DISCUSSION
HISTORICAL FIRE REGIME
LIGHTNING
Before Aboriginal and European settlement, lightning was the primary natural source of fire,
especially in tropical parts of Australia (Kohen, 1996). These lightning–caused bushfires have
drastically shaped the landscape and its vegetation. Plants have developed different adaptations to
tolerate these fires and in turn contributed to the natural diversity in the area. The Mountain Ash
(Eucalyptus regnans) trees growing in forests east of Melbourne are great examples of a tree species
adapted to bushfires. These trees are usually killed by intense fire but their seeds germinate fast in
the ash bed left behind by the fire (Museum Victoria, n.d.).
The city of Melbourne historically had a mix of grass, scrub, and trees in its landscape due to its
relatively flat terrain and its low elevation. Like the rest of the state of Victoria, lightning has played
an important role in shaping ecosystems and affecting different vegetation types.
ABORIGINAL FIRES
Fire events have increased ever since the Aboriginals have occupied the landscape about 40,000
years ago (Lindenmayer & Burgman, 2005). They used fire to their advantage and helped change
the landscape in addition to lightning.

3. Results and Discussion
The aridity maps was prepared by using De Martonne's Aridity Index, Thornthwaite's Precipitation
Effectiveness Index, Thornthwaite's Moisture Index, UNESCO Aridity Index and Erinc Aridity
Index. These indices showed that most of the southern parts of the country lie between arid to hyper
arid where as northern parts lie between semi arid to very humid zone (Fig–3). Analysis shows the
climate of northern parts is more variable as compare to southern parts. The reason in the variability
of the climate in the northern parts is that this region received rainfall in summer due to monsoon
systems (July to September) and in winter due to western disturbances (December to March).

This is quite unfortunate for our agriculture that evaporative demand and water requirement for
crops in whole southern parts of the country is very high as compare to northern parts and it is very
difficult to carry out the agricultural activity in these regions.
Climate variability and change profoundly influence social and natural environments throughout the
world, with consequent impacts on natural resources and industry that could be large and far–
reaching. Climate change due to global warming not only started to impact the weather pattern but
also influence the agriculture sector in Pakistan. Pakistan is an agriculture whose majority of the
population depends upon agriculture. Glaciers are the big fresh water sources for Pakistan which
fulfills the water demands in the agriculture land while rainfall fulfills the water requirement of the
barani areas. An increase in temperature was observed in the country especially during the last few
decades which accelerate snow melting on glaciers. The increased rate of glacial melting in
Himalayas has caused vast lakes to develop, and if these lacks outburst, these can inundate towns
and villages below. There is high level of confidence that recent regional changes (rising tendency)
in temperature have discernable impacts on precipitation, evaporation, stream flow, runoff and other
elements of hydrological cycles (Elshamy et al., 2006).

children are reading by the age of six. The importance of this and the effect on children, teachers

Literature Review
Research in to reading difficulties and behavioural problems
As it has frequently been observed that reading difficulties are accompanied by behaviour problems
( Berger, Yule & Rutter, 1975; Rutter, Tizeird & Whitmore, 1970). However, the exact nature of the
relationship has been difficult to elucidate. One possibility is that behaviour problems arise as a
consequence of the child 's reaction to being a poor reader. An alternative possibility is that the
behaviour problems pre–date the reading difficulty and affect the child 's capacity to profit from
reading instruction. A third possibility is that behaviour problems are related to reading difficulties
because they share a common cause. A likely candidate for such a common cause would be home
background. Of course, none of these possibilities are mutually exclusive. All could be partly true,
with causal influences operating in both directions between reading difficulties and behaviour
problems, as well as coming from home background.
Several studies have attempted to sort out these various possibilities. Two major approaches have
been employed. The first is to compare children who have both reading difficulties and

34. Commentary on The Only Alien on the Planet by Kristen Randle
After reading, The Only Alien on the Planet, my views have changed on people. I have realized that
some friends, like Caulder and Ginny, in the book would be willing to do anything to help Smitty in
his situation. They didn't give up on him even if he never talked to them, because they knew Smitty
was acting like that for a reason. Another view of mine that has changed is on how people act to one
another. It has taught me that just because a person acts a certain way to you, like Smitty not talking
to anyone, can be much more serious than you think. It can be a small problem, such as a personal
issue, or it can tie to a more broader problem like Smitty's, where he was threatened and controled
by his older brother.
The thing about this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The importance of the setting, Smitty's hospital room, is the events that have taken place in the
room, and the changes that each character has experienced while being there. After Smitty and
Ginny share a kiss at a party, something inside of him breaks out. This leads to Caulder and Ginny
figuring out the biggest mystery about Smitty's life. Getting psychiatric help, Smitty finally tells his
story to the doctor, which is passed onto Caulder and Ginny knowing about the situation. They are
told to visit Smitty everyday to help him adapt and to learn more about his story. What they end up
learning is much more than what they thought. Ginny ends up learning Smitty's real name, which is
Michael, and Smitty and Ginny also realize that they love each other and that they want to look after
each other in the future.
A shape that I think best represents this story is a star. I think this because throughout the story, each
of the characters hit a certain high and a certain low in their life. High points such as Caulder finally
being able to talk to Smitty after all the time he spent working on their one–sided friendship, and
Smitty realizing that he has a point in life and that he is not an 'alien' so to speak. Low points for
example would be events such as Ginny feeling like Caulder threw away their friendship once he
got in a relationship with Hally, and Smitty feeling like he has no chance in life

36. The History Of Geographic Information Systems ( Gis )
Introduction:
Recent research on interpolation of climatological and meteorological information with the support
of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) has shown that interpolation has a large development
potential within climatology and meteorology. At the same time the demand for interpolated data
products are increasing, numerical weather models are working at higher spatial resolutions and may
be initiated by gridded data from observations. Interpolation is a method of getting new data from
some known data points. In India, many weather data is from official departments and there are
many weather sites, but in some areas it is difficult to obtain weather data, so we will use
interpolation methods to get climate data of that areas. Interpolation can be defined as the estimation
of an unknown value of the variable, at some point where no measurement is available, where the
estimate is made using known measurements obtained at a set of sample locations. With the advent
of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), numerous spatial interpolation methods have been
applied to create continuous surfaces of climate variables at various spatial (watershed, regional, and
global) and temporal (hourly, daily, monthly, seasonal, and annual) scales. The prediction of weather
condition is essential for various applications. Like weather prediction, soil moisture, climate data
monitoring, rainfall, population prediction, agriculture, image processing etc. Regression model,

The Impact of Globalisation on Brazil:
Introduction
The process of integration of economies around the world, known as globalisation, has catalysed the
development of Brazil as a powerful emerging economy, through the expansion of trade and
investment. Emerging countries are defined as those progressing toward becoming more advanced,
through rapid growth and industrialisation. Consequently, Brazil's rapid economic growth has
secured its place in BRICS, an association of five major emerging economies, Brazil, Russia, India,
China, and South Africa.

Rates of Inflation
The impacts of globalisation have dramatically reduced Brazil's rates of inflation in the past two
decades. The inflation rate in Brazil averaged 390.85% from 1980 until 2014; however, the
competitive pressure brought forth by globalisation as well as the associated increase in efficiency
and output has served to keep inflation rates low in recent years. The current inflation rate is 6.59%

The increasing integration of trade between economies resulting from globalisation has stimulated
high levels of economic growth for Brazil, minimising the country's current account deficit (CAD).
However, a recent steep decline in Brazil's trade surplus, which narrowed to $2.6 billion in 2013
from $19.4 billion in 2012, has widened the current account deficit to $81.37 billion

My worst fear is getting shots. This arose when I was two years old, and had many visits to the
doctor's office because there were concerns about my respiratory system. I had to have many blood
tests, which weren't only scary, but also were painful. The blood tests came out normal, but it was
later discovered I had asthma. After I had a severe reaction to tree nuts at around five, I had to have
even more blood tests to determine if I had other allergies.
The second time I went to get blood tests done I knew what was coming. As soon as the nurse
turned her back on me I scampered under the table. My mom and the nurse tried to convince me to
come out but i refused. They had to drag me out from under the table and hold me down in order to

CHAPTER I: INTRODUCTION According to BP Energy Outlook, by 2035 overall energy
production in Asia pacific will increase by 52% while energy consumption increase by 60% which
cause net energy import rise by 88%. With the escalating environmental issue and slow development
of renewable energy, development of gas fields in the region is important. However, this will be
challenging as many of the fields in the region are associated with high content of CO2 (15% –
80%). The FIGURE shows the location of the fields (Burgers, et al. 2011). Among them, there are
East Natuna Field (40 TCF methane; 71% CO2), K5 Field (13.2 TCF; 70% CO2), and Kuala Langsa
(10 TCF; 80% CO2). At present time, development of those fields becomes the priority of
Indonesia's and Malaysia's governments to meet the forthcoming increase of domestic gas demand

INTRODUCTION
Radiation, flow of atomic and subatomic particles and of waves, such as those that characterize heat
rays, light rays, and X rays. All matter is constantly bombarded with radiation of both types from
cosmic and terrestrial sources. This article delineates the properties and behaviour of radiation and
the matter with which it interacts and describes how energy is transferred from radiation to its
surroundings. Considerable attention is devoted to the consequences of such an energy transfer to
living matter, including the normal effects on many life processes (e.g., photosynthesis in plants and
vision in animals) and the abnormal or injurious effects that result from the exposure of organisms

Considerably more knowledge about the biologic effects of neutrons had been acquired by the time
the first nuclear reactor was built in 1942 in Chicago. The nuclear reactor, which has become a
prime source of energy for the world, produces an enormous amount of neutrons as well as other
forms of radiation. The widespread use of nuclear reactors and the development of high–energy
particle accelerators, another prolific source of ionizing radiation, have given rise to health physics.
This field of study deals with the hazards of radiation and protection against such hazards.
Moreover, since the advent of spaceflight in the late 1950s, certain kinds of radiation from space and
their effects on human health have attracted much attention. The protons in the Van Allen radiation
belts (two doughnut–shaped zones of high–energy particles trapped in the Earth's magnetic field),
the protons and heavier ions ejected in solar flares, and similar particles near the top of the
atmosphere are particularly important.
Units for measuring ionizing radiation
Ionizing radiation is measured in various units. The oldest unit, the roentgen (R), denotes the
amount of radiation that is required to produce 1 electrostatic unit of charge in 1 cubic centimetre of
air under standard conditions of pressure, temperature, and humidity. For expressing the dose of
radiation absorbed in living tissue, the principal units are the gray (Gy; 1 Gy = 1 joule of radiation

52. Great Expectations by Charles Dickens Essay
Great Expectations by Charles Dickens Throughout the Victorian era humanity was obsessed with
social status and took every opportunity to search for meaningful existence within society. 'Great
Expectations' follows Pip's journey from childhood to adulthood, acquainting with both the true and
false qualities of a 'gentleman'. All through the novel, social class provides an arbitrary, external
standard of value by which the characters judge one another. During Pip's progression of becoming
a 'gentleman' he realizes appearance is not the main quality a gentleman should posses. Dickens
provides Pip, the protagonist, with extreme challenges involving his genteel qualities to expose the
obvious need of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Pip – "I was haunted by the fear that she would, sooner or later, find me out, with a black face and
hands, doing the coarsest part of my work, and would exult over me and despise me." Pip's desire
for becoming a gentleman and reaching up to Estella's wishes largely surpassed his childhood. With
Estella's negative thoughts about Pip, he began to feel discontent with the existing life he had,
"Biddy, I am not at all happy as I am. I am disgusted with my calling and with my life. I have never
taken to either, since I was bound." – Pip. As a character, Pip's idealism often leads him to identify
the world rather narrowly, and his tendency to generalize situations based on exterior values leads
him to behave badly toward the people who care about him. When Pip receives his mysterious
fortune, he immediately begins to act as he thinks a gentleman is supposed to act, which leads him
to treat Joe and Biddy snobbishly and coldly. "Well, Joe is a dear good fellow– in fact, I think he is
the dearest fellow that ever lived– but he is rather backward in some things, for instance, Biddy, in
his learning and his manners." Pips arrogance towards Biddy grows as he speaks; he often captured

Lord Of The Flies Essay In the book Lord Of The Flies by William Golding, symbols are used to
highlight the impactful nature of Ralph, the main protagonist. Ralph is brought to so much power
being credited to finding the conch and rising but also falling in power along side it. The supporting
character of story, Piggy, helps us show how the conch is a double edged sword. It gives Ralph the
ability to become leader and create a civilization but also helps Jack, the antagonist, resist the conch
and help build his own empire on the island which tears everyone apart and creates savagery which
is controlled with the tips of his fingers. Ralph uses the conch to symbolize order, which ... Show

Then I 'll give him the conch. ' 'Conch? 'That 's what this thing is called. I 'll give the conch to the
next person to speak. He can hold it when he 's speaking. (18)" Ralph uses the conch as a symbol of
authority with the boys in their very important meeting about rules of the island. The conch comes
to represent civilization and order in this quote, as Ralph instructs the boys how to use the conch to
take proper turns in their meetings and becomes even more in–power as he is now focused as the
leader to the boys who didn't agree with him being leader at first.
The conch begins to age and lose power as Ralph in the story loses his power to savagery leaded by
Jack. Ralph is seen as very strong until Jack finally succeeds in killing his very first pig after a long
time of disappointment. He begins to celebrate with some of the kids because of the death of the pig
and gets everyone interested into food and savagery. Like Ralph and the conch comparison, an
analogy can be used for Ralph and the conch. As for Ralph, he begins to lose power to Jack who has
always been a rebellion to him and the conch loses power also with Golding stating "Exposure to the
sun had bleached the yellow and pink to near–white, and transparency. Ralph felt a kind of
affectionate reverence for the conch, even though he had fished the thing out of the lagoon himself"
(78). The conch is shown here as being "near–white" and transparent. Golding 's description of the

Abstract
Nuclear energy could be the future of energy and potentially solve the energy crisis problem.
Nuclear energy is a sustainable energy source and it can provide millions of times the amount of
energy output from a fixed mass of fuel than any other energy source, such as fossil fuel, for the
same mass of fuel. Nuclear energy is also very clean for the atmosphere. It produces no greenhouse
gases at all. However, nuclear energy can be very harmful to both people and the rest of the natural
environment if not managed well. Nuclear meltdowns etc. can release ... Show more content on

Many military and some civilian (such as some icebreaker) ships use nuclear marine propulsion, a
form of nuclear propulsion. A few space vehicles have been launched using full–fledged nuclear
reactors: the Soviet RORSAT series and the American SNAP–10A.
International research is continuing into safety improvements such as passively safe plants, the use
of nuclear fusion, and additional uses of process heat such as hydrogen production (in support of a
hydrogen economy), for desalinating sea water, and for use in district heating systems.
What is nuclear fission?
Nuclear fission can be either a nuclear reaction or a radioactive decay process in which the nucleus
57. of an atom splits into smaller parts (lighter nuclei) often producing free neutrons and photons, which
are in the form of gamma rays. This releases an extremely large amount of energy. The two nuclei
produced are usually similar sizes, though slightly different (usual mass ratio is about 3 to 2), for
common fissile isotopes. Most fissions produce two charged fragments (known as a binary fission),
but sometimes three positively charged fragments are produced (ternary fission). In a ternary fission,
the size of the smallest fragment can be anywhere between the size of a proton to the size of an
argon nucleus. When producing nuclear energy/power in a reactor,

Samuel C. Parks, a longtime friend of Abraham Lincoln.1 Contemporary Robert H. Browne recalled
Abraham Lincoln telling him in 1854: "The slavery question often bothered me as far back as 1836–

one category of men to a lifetime of labor without the hope of improvement while turning another
into a shiftless aristocracy that scored honest labor as 'slave work.'"20 In an undated note on slavery,
Mr. Lincoln wrote: "The ant, who has toiled and dragged a crumb to his nest, will furiously defend
the fruit of his labor, against whatever robber assails him. So plain, that the most dumb and stupid
slave that ever toiled for a master, does constantly know that he is wronged. So plain that no one,

Noise Pollution
Abstract No one on earth can escape the sounds of noise– an unwanted, disturbing sound that causes
a nuisance in the eye of the beholder. Noise is a disturbance to the human environment that is
escalating at such a high rate that it will become a major threat to the quality of human lives. In the
past thirty years, noise in all areas, especially in urban areas, have been increasing rapidly. There are
numerous effects on the human environment due to the increase in noise pollution. In the following
paper, the cause and effects of noise pollution will be presented in some detail. Slowly, insensibly,
we seem to accept noise and the physiological and psychological deterioration that accompanies it
as an inevitable ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This type of exposure to noise does not have to be as loud as a gun being fired; it can be as simple as
a person shouting across the room. The type of hearing loss is any degree from partial to complete
hearing loss. This loss, usually, is permanent and is not satisfactorily corrected by any devices such
as, hearing aids. The loss is caused by the destruction of the delicate hair cells and their auditory
nerve connections in the Organ of Corti, which is contained in the cochlea (Bugliarello, et al., 1976).
Every exposure to loud noise destroys some cells, but prolonged exposure damages a larger amount
of cells, and ultimately collapses the Organ of Corti, which causes deafness.
Most of society is now aware that noise can damage hearing. However, short of a threat that disaster
would overtake the human race if nothing is done about noise, it is unlikely that many people today
would become strongly motivated to do something about the problem. Yet, the evidence about the ill
effects of noise does not allow for complacency or neglect. For instance, researchers working with
children with hearing disorders are constantly reminded of the crucial importance of hearing to
children. In the early years the child cannot learn to speak without special training if he has enough
hearing loss to interfere effectively with the hearing of words in context

Columbus and the New World Discovery
October 12, 1992, marks the five–hundredth anniversary of the most crucial of all encounters
between Europe and the Americas. In the contemporary global mood, however, the quincentennial
of Christopher Columbus's landing in the New World – new, anyway, to the European intruders; old
and familiar to its inhabitants – seems an occasion less for celebration than for mediation. Indeed, in
some quarters the call is for penitence and remorse.
Christopher Columbus has always been as much a myth as a man, a myth incorporating a succession
of triumphs and guilts over what is now five long centuries. The myth has found particular lodgment

A movement to honor the day of landfall culminated in 1934, when President Franklin D. Roosevelt
proclaimed October 12 a national holiday. The holiday is observed in most Latin American countries
as well.
The United States also staged the most memorable celebration of the quadricentennial of what it was
then widely acceptable to call the "discovery" of America. The World's Columbus Exposition took
place in bustling, thrusting, Midwestern Chicago, the very heart of the republic. Reconfiguring the
great explorer in images of technology and modernity, the Chicago World's Fair saluted the man
then regarded, in the words of President Benjamin Harrison, as "the pioneer of progress and
enlightenment". In a book especially produced for the fair, the historian Meyer Kayserling summed
up the prevailing assessment of Columbus: "In the just appreciation of his great services to mankind,
all political, religious and social differences have vanished."
How things changed in a century! Political, religious, and social differences, far from vanishing,
place Columbus today in the center of a world–wide cultural civil war. The great hero of the
nineteenth century seems well on the way to becoming the great villain of the twenty–first.
Columbus, it is now charged, far from being the pioneer of progress and enlightenment, was in fact
the pioneer of oppression, racism, slavery, rape, theft, vandalism, extermination, and ecological
desolation.

70. Disadvantages Of Hemostatic Dressings
CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION
According to World Health Organisation (WHO), on an average, motor vehicle crashes have killed
about 1.25 million people every year and also it has been observed that 90% of the world's fatalities
on the roads occur in low–income and middle–income countries. India accounts for about 10% of
road crash fatalities worldwide [45]. The control of hemorrhage (massive bleeding) is a critical step
in first aid and field trauma care. This control is essentially done by applying pressure, elevation of
bleeding site, usage of elastic field dressings, tourniquets and novel haemostatic dressings [29].
Among these methods, hemostatic dressings are used as last alternative, but it is the resourceful
system of all. In this report, various forms of hemostatic materials and the products available in the
market are reviewed.

1.1 INTRODUCTION
Peri–urban is a term often used in literature texts concerning town planning and urban growth, yet
there is a need to properly define the term and what constitutes its existence. In certain texts, peri–
urban areas (PUA) are identified by their proximity to the city and as such PUAs are also known as
the urban fringe, hinterlands and transition areas. Such proximity is caused by the physical
expansion of a city's physical boundary into adjoining regions. Physical expansions in such manner
could stem from urban growth, economic growth and relocation of industries.(Lacquinta and
73. Drescher 2000)
Peri–urbanisation may become the dominant 21st century challenge for regional and city planning
and design. The peri–urban is a zone of social and economic change and restructuring, a zone of
intensive and sometimes even chaotic development. It is not just an in–between or edge space at the
urban fringe; rather it is a new kind of hot–spot multi–functional landscape for urban renewal and
development (Kjell Nilsson et al 2014) and according to OECD (1979:) the impacts of economic
growth and physical expansion of the urban area are not

This rejection in turn might increase his inner feelings of worthlessness, leading to even more
aggressive compensation–and a maddening spiral has begun. As the satirist Ambrose Bierce put it in
The Devil's Dictionary (1911), an egotist is "A person of low taste, more interested in himself than
in me." The Evolution of Adler's Theory Adler's theory underwent a series of changes as his
thoughts about human motivations changed. The first concept he described was that of organ
inferiority–the idea that everyone is born with some physical weakness. It is at this "weak link," says
Adler, that incapacity or disease is most likely to take root, and so the body attempts to make up for
the deficiency in another area. He contended that these infirmities (and perhaps more important,
individual reactions to them) were important motivators of people's life choices. A short time later,
Adler added the concept of the aggression drive to his model. He believed that drives could be either
directly effective or reversed into an opposite drive (similar to a Freudian defense mechanism).
Aggression was particularly important to Adler because he believed it was a reaction to perceived
helplessness or inferiority–a lashing out against the inability to achieve or master something. Adler's
next step was what he termed the masculine protest. He did not mean, however, that only boys

Introduction This report is a cultural analysis of the country of North Korea. The paper itself
analyzes the history, geography, education, language, economy, and politics of the Democratic
People's Republic of Korea known simply as: North Korea. Group 4 chose this particular country
out of curiosity and the want to find out what the nation was like. Not many facts are known about
North Korea and its shady past. This project explores everything from the difficult relationships
between the Korean people and their government, to the famines and floods that threatened the
entire survival of the country. The research has shed light on the corruption of the North Korean
government and the reign of ruthless leaders such as Kim Il Sung and his son Kim Jong Il. The
politics of North Korea have been questionable at best in the nation's history. Finally they are
making progress to renew laws that better fit into North Korean society, but the process is slow.

report on the State of Undernourishment in the World all emphasized the critical need to decrease
FIS and hunger globally and especially in Sub–Saharan Africa. However, in developing countries,
measuring FIS has remained a major problem, not just because of lack of human and financial
resources but also because of the need for suitable methodological approaches (Ballard et al., 2013;
da Costa et al., 2013). Consequently, many definitions have been advocated to capture FIS more
precisely. FIS exists whenever the availability of nutritionally adequate and safe foods or the ability
to acquire such foods in socially acceptable ways is limited or uncertain (Sharafkhani et al., 2011).
FIS is a situation that exists when people lack secure access to sufficient safe and nutritious food for
normal growth and development and an active and healthy life (FAO et al., 2012). FIS may be
chronic, seasonal or transitory (FAO et al., 2012). FIS applies to food–insecure households which
include those with low

82. Classification Of The Soil Drainage Class
Part 1
Question 1 – LENZ classification
LENZ classification– F7.1
Regional average elevation– 520m
Climate– Mild temperatures, high solar radiation, slight annual water deficits.
Landform– Undulating volcanic plateau.
Parent material– Rhyolitic rock
Question 2 – Soil types
Describe the main soil characteristics for the region including their soil texture, depth, plant
available water and drainage.
Soil texture– The soil around the Taupo area is a sandy loam which is normally made up of sand
along with varying amounts of silt and clay.
Soil depth– greater than one meter.
Plant available water– the profile of available water for soil depth of 0–100cm or to the root barrier
is very high at 162.5 mm.
Drainage– The soil drainage class is well drained.
Question 3 – Land Evaluation, what it consists of, and what it is capably of
a) The land use capability classification (LUC) system has 8 classes, 1–4 is arable land, 5–8 is non
arable and 8 is conservation. The higher the class the less versatile the land is. The majority of the
land in the Taupo area is class 5–7 which is non arable and unsuitable for cropping but can be
productive pastoral hill country, with class 7 having severe limitations. There is also some class 3
which is arable land with some limitations such as restricted crops that can be grown. There is also
small amounts of conservation land which is class 8 and has severe to extreme limitations.
b) Currently the majority of land in the Taupo area is in planted

With the increasing costs, both financial and ecological, of fossil fuels, fuel efficiency in vehicles
has become an increasingly important factor. Vehicle manufacturers and designers are exploring
alternative fuels, with electric, hybrid and hydrogen–powered vehicles being looked at as viable
alternatives. Solar power has been somewhat overlooked but has the ability to become widely used
because it is both clean and economical. The advantages over fossil fuels are obvious: Solar power
is renewable, cannot be exhausted and doesn't cause pollution. Fossil fuels are becoming
increasingly scarce and expensive. Solar seems like a logical alternative. As such, it is being
considered by private companies and government think tanks as a partial ... Show more content on

Battery packs are still heavy, bulky and expensive but the costs of solar power are coming down
while the cost of gasoline keeps going up. A number of different vehicles from sports cars to vans to
golf carts have had solar panels added to flat surfaces, primarily their roofs. Some of the vehicles are
ordinary cars which have been modified for solar; others are highly futuristic. The picture below is a
good example of a futuristic design. The vehicle, called "car on a stick" was designed to be used as a
streetlight when not being driven, which accounts for the one sitting at a higher elevation in the
picture, as opposed to the one on the ground. It would also save on parking. Of course, this design is
only an idea at this point, but it gives some interesting possibilities for vehicles (and cities) of the
future. Source: http://www.designboom.com/contemporary/solarpoweredvehicles.html Albuainain
Page 2 of 5 So far, the size, weight and efficiency of PV panels, and the need for a storage battery,
which is large and heavy, has limited the range of most such vehicles to 30–50 miles between
charges (designboom). In order for PVCs to become more practical, engineers will have to increase
their efficiency. Current cells have an average efficiency of about 20% (Perch 2013). Ideally, the
efficiency would need to be at least 30% to be sufficient to provide enough energy to keep the car
running for a reasonable

86. Essay on Diversity and Distribution of Eucalyptus
Diversity and Distribution of Eucalyptus
Eucalyptus is a genus of hardwood evergreen forest trees, and is the most conspicuous element of
Australian vegetation. Its members constitute 95 percent of the continent's forests and are the
dominant trees of Australia's woodlands (Kelly 1969). It is an extremely diverse group, with
approximately 500 named species and subspecies and nearly 200 described hybrid varieties (Blakely
1965). The genus is overwhelmingly endemic to the Australian mainland and Tasmania. Only seven
species occur naturally outside the continent, mostly on the islands of Papua/New Guinea and the
Indonisian island of Timor, and only two of these species are not represented on the Australian
continent. Eucalyptus is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus, in response to this great diversity in habitat, Eucalyptus has, through many generations,
adapted and speciated to become one of the most diverse living groups on earth. The diversity of the
genus lies not only in its shear number of species, but also in the various forms, features, and
morphological characters it displays.
Because of its great range of habitation, the widespread Eucalyptus displays a variety of shapes and
sizes. The Snow Gum (E. pauciflora), which must deal with the harsh conditions of high altitudes,
takes the form of twisted, windswept shrubs, often barely reaching three feet in height (Kelly 1969).
However, the Mountain Ash (E. regnans) of the wet, rich–loamed Victorian and Tasmanian forests,
often exceeds heights of 320 feet, making it the tallest Australian species and the tallest hardwood in
the world. Most forest species rarely attain heights of 150 feet, while woodland species generally do
not exceed 80 feet but have a short, thick trunk with heavy limbs to support a broad, spreading
crown. Sometimes the same species occurs in both forests and woodlands, assuming the form
characteristic of the vegetative type in which it grows (Hall, Johnston, and Chippendale 1970). A
number of species exhibit a shrub–like dwarf form in which several stems arise from a large, woody
rootstock composed of stem tissue (called a lignotuber) imbedded in shallow soil.
