Biography of Abraham Lincoln
Abraham Lincoln was a self–educated lawyer who did not support slavery. He surprised many
people when he became the 16th President mainly because he beat out several promising
contenders. During the Civil War Lincoln became quite brilliant with military strategy and an
excellent wartime leader. With the Union on the brink of victory Lincoln became a martyr when he
was shot and killed by a Confederate sympathizer by the name of John Wilkes Booth. Over time
Lincoln became known as one of the greatest Presidents of all time.
Abraham Lincoln was born February 12 1809 in Hardin County Kentucky to Thomas and Nancy
Lincoln. In 1816 his family moved to southern Indiana. Lincoln had little formal education due to
the fact that he ahd to work to help support his family. Lincolns' mother died when he was only nine,
and as a young boy he took that pretty rough. Abraham quickly began to resent his father for all the
work that was placed on him at a young age.
His father remarried a Kentucky widow with three children of her own. Although Lincolns' parents
were probably illiterate, Sarah encouraged Abraham to read. It wasn't till he was a young man that
he received most of his formal education. It would come in days or weeks at a time. Books were
scarce in the backwoods of Indiana, so Lincoln would read the Bible or other popular books of that
time such as Robinson Crusoe and several others.

Throughout the readings "Bowling Alone", "Alone Together", and "Still Bowling Alone", the three
authors all have their points to get across involving technologies in our societies. They're all quite
common, as in they all seem to want us to be weary of how close we get to technology, as it's
drifting us away from our friends and family, but also from our civic and social lives, as "Bowling
Alone" speaks heavily about. Technology can be a positive aspect of life, but when you look at it
from these authors' perspectives, you can possibly see it as a negative. In "Bowling Alone", Robert
Putnam speaks primarily of America's declining activity in civil society and social meetings. His
arguments are backed with facts in statistics– he often lists membership levels in different
organizations, and how they've declined in a number of years by (typically) a drastic percentage.
One example in the civic society portion that stood out to me was actually quite short and minor.
Putnam wrote that "the portion of who reply that they "trust the government in Washington" only

stay uninformed and are the real victims of outsourcing. Zakaria describes "the rise of the rest" as
the third major tectonic power shift. His theory, which makes perfect sense, implies that these power
shifts are a natural occurrence. According to Zakaria, the third shift shouldn't hurt America and
Americans shouldn't feel threatened or worried by it. The thing that Americans should be worried
about is the growing gap of power that exists between the elite business class and the rest of
Americans. Because the higher class only looks out for themselves and only seeks profit for the
firms that they control, many negative things are happening to the lower class, the biggest being the

leisure travel company. The goal of this assessment is to analyze the strengths and weaknesses with
the financial ratio analysis of the company along with conducting an internal factor evaluation
matrix to view the status of the company in comparison with their top competitor, Royal Caribbean
Cruises Ltd.
Top strengths that Carnival Corporation & plc has to their advantage would be their strong brand
and major control of the market share. Containing a strong brand portfolio with a total of 10 well–
known brands operating about 102 ships. Such brands include Carnival Cruise Lines, Holland
America Line, Princess Cruises and Seabourn in North America; AIDA Cruises, Costa Cruises,
Cunard, Ibero Cruises, P&O Cruises (Australia) and P&O Cruises (UK) under the Europe, Austrailia
& Asia segments. Along with Holland America Princess Alaska Tour and the Canadian Yukon
(Olarte, 2017). The company is also the largest cruise company in the world in terms of cruise

our country. Our country is said to be one of the greatest democratic countries of all time;
nevertheless, we have faced great problems such as slavery and unfair distribution of wealth. Our
Constitution has helped to shape one of the greatest democratic countries, but it can simultaneously
be deprecated for its promotion of institutional racism. People such as Thomas Jefferson, who
owned slaves, wrote the Constitution. As a result, our country was founded on white supremacist
beliefs. Our founding fathers were supposed to be drafting one of the greatest democratic documents
ever written, but at the same time they were taking away from blacks certain freedoms and
"unalienable rights," rights and freedoms that they themselves had fought for against the British.
Our founding fathers spoke of equality and the right to "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness,"
but at the same time, they owned slaves and viewed them as property. Because slave owners such as
Thomas Jefferson were our founding fathers, our country was founded not only on the idea of
democracy, but white supremacy.

The bubonic plague was the main contender of the Black Death (Byrne 15–16) which was primarily
spread through the bacteria Yersinia pestis found in the stomach (Corbishley 47) of the Xenopsylla
cheopis, a common flea (Byrne 197). The flea would then feed on a host's blood, and regurgitate the
bacteria into the host, causing the victim to become infected the bubonic plague (Nox). The Rattus
rattus, or black rat, is considered to have helped the spread of the Black Death by carrying the fleas
that carried the bacteria causing bubonic plague (Byrne 196). Upon infection of the bubonic plague,
a variety of symptoms appeared quite quickly. During the first few days, victims would develop a
headache, chills, a fever, weakness, an increased pulse, and a white tongue. As the disease
progressed, red and black spots, also called gangrene, appeared due to the body's tissue dying, and
buboes, swollen lymph nodes filled with blood, puss, and bacteria, appeared on the victim's groin,
neck, and arm pits (Zahler 26–27). As the plague progressed, the bacteria began running rampant
throughout the victim's body, eventually developing pneumonic plague, a plague within the lungs
