2. Setting Up Equipment
Before taking the images of the artist I needed to ensure that I was going to get the
best quality photo possible. I am going to achieve this by having sharp photos and
correctly exposed photos. You do not want an under exposed image as this will make
the image too dark and you do not want an over exposed image as you do not want
the image too light. Therefore, in co-operation with the surroundings and natural
lighting I set the ISO to 400 which created a good balance of lighting.
I will also use a tripod to take the photo. This decreases the chance of blur as the
camera remains still as you take the photo.
3. Pre – Production Material
I used the pre – production material to ensure
that the original plans stayed the same.
However there were some small adjustments.
For example, as the image on the right
demonstrates, the hand drawn draft plan was
not identical to my final magazine. This was
because I did not include the strapline at the top
of the page. Instead I included a competition as
this looked more appealing and professional.
Additionally, I also did not quite follow my hand
drawn draft DPS. This is because it said that
magazine credits were in the middle of the right
hand page. I did not think this was very
professional therefore I placed them in the very
bottom left hand corner of the page instead.
This looks much more appropriate.

8. Operating Desktop Publishing Skills
Before doing anything on Photoshop, you need to
create a blank canvas. This will be where all of the
text, images, colors and boxes will layer over. To
create a new Photoshop document you must select
file > new. This will instruct you to fill out a box
accordingly to how big you would like the canvas.
Once I had decided on my size I clicked on ‘ok’.
There are a few ways of selecting images into
Photoshop. The first one is by dragging the image
directly fro the documents window into the Photoshop
window. This is very fast, quick and simple and
personally my favorite as it speeds up the process and
you can choose exactly what image you want.
However, there is also a method using Adobe Bridge.
This software allows you to view all your photos in a
window and once you have found the image you want,
click ‘Open Image’ to view it in Photoshop. This is not
as good as it takes a longer time to complete the
process.
9. Operating Desktop Publishing Skills -
DPS
Before you are able to do anything on
Photoshop, you need to create a blank

document you must select file > new.
This will instruct you to fill out a box
accordingly to how big you would like

size I clicked on ‘ok’.
To insert text on Photoshop you can
either click on the text tool on the left
hand side bar or type Ctrl + t. once this
action has been completed you can
type text, change font, change colour
and change the size of the text.
10. Conclusion
In this LO I have analyzed the setting up of the
equipment. This is to demonstrate what props I
used to take my photo-shoot. I also looked at my
production plan and pre – production material as I
can work out what I had changed on the final
product that wasn’t in the plan. Finally, I annotated
operating desktop publishing skills. These are such
things like creating a new Photoshop canvas and
searching/opening images on Photoshop.
