2. HARDWARE
The hardware that I used during the production of my magazine is the following;
Camera:The camera I used was a Canon 700d. I used to take the photos for my
magazine to make it look more engaging and attractive to my audience, also to
make it more aesthetically pleasing. The camera took very high quality pictures and
had various settings for example, I didn’t know how to adjust the exposure so the
pictures don’t look completely white, I also learned how to zoom in into the faces of
the model without having the camera right up to their face.
Mac: I used the Apple Macs to edit and put together my final products using
software like Photoshop and InDesign.
Studio lights: I've used the studio lights to light up the model and room, also I used
them to make the image have a better quality image. I learned that you are able to
change the brightness so they didn’t blind the model and therefore eliminate a
potential risk.
3. SOFTWARE
Software-
Photoshop: I used Photoshop to edit the magazine's front cover, contents page and double page spread.
This software was very useful once I got the hand of it.The benefit that this software brings to my work is
that it allowed me to manipulate the images in order to make the suit my magazine style and therefore
make it appeal to the right target audience. As well as this, it allowed me to put together the front cover
and contents page because I could edit the layout, change the places of images and allowed me to make
the front cover and contents page altogether.
InDesign: I used InDesign to put together all of the products made in Photoshop together to make the
double page spread, then I added the front cover and contents page to the double page spread so it would
look like a magazine when it was printed out. This soft ware is very good when putting together as it had
boxes around each object on the screen which made it easier to centre everything and it also allowed me
to make sure that it was symmetrical through out and nothing was wonky.
Prezi: Prezi is an online software that allows you to create an interactive PowerPoint on the internet. I
used prize on a variety of times whilst creating the magazine, from planning to production, Prezi is very
easy to use and allows to go in depth of a certain topic.
Blogger: Blogger is the website that was used to put in our work, this was a benefit to my work as it gave
me a platform to put my coursework, instead of having to email 1 document at a time. I also learned how
to embed a PowerPoint and other types of files into blogger.
4. PHOTOSHOP
This creates a new blank page
Here you can select the size of
the paper , I selected an A4
piece of paper as this this is the
average size of a magazine
These are the layers I created, this made it a
lot easier when editing as it would be
separately and not having to edit the whole
front cover or contents page altogether.
The layer in blue is the one selected, the
highlightmakes it a lot easier to
differentiate which layer I am working on at
the time.
This is the selection brush which selects
areas it has gone over, this benefits me
because I was able to select specific things
to delete or to edit separately
This is the paint
brush
This is the
eraser
This allows you
to insert text
This fills out the
screen a certain
colour it can
also be used as
a gradient with
a mix of
different
colours, this
benefits my
work because it
gave me an idea
for what to have
as a background
5. INDESIGN
InDesign, has layers as well as
Photoshop, this is to make it easier
to know what layer you are
working on and like in Photoshop
the layer is highlighted in blue.
This allows you to change the angle of
the font The changes the colour and
size of the font to the
desired colour and font size
This allows you to insert text and it can
formatted to go into columns to fit the
stereotypical magazine look
This is the pen tool which allows you to
draw, this was useful because it let me do a
very quick draft to see how it would all be
laid out
This is the gradient swatch which allows you
to create a gradient that can be used for the
background or on a image to make it stand
out
This tool allows you to see the outline of the
boxes, or to take them away in order to see
what it would look like when it’s the finally
finished
