Music Magazine & Promotion
Rough Sketches - AMP
Barcode: the barcode will near the bottom so that is
easy to scan and easier to promote the magazine.
Main headline: this will be very clear in the center of
the page so that it is easy and fast to understand
what the story is about.
Main image: the image will be in the center so that
It is eye catching and can grabs the reader attention.
Cover stories: the cover stories will be nearing the
side so that it doesn’t cover up the main image or
top story.
Strapline: the strapline is placed near the masthead
as they are connected and both on every edition of
the magazine.
Masthead: the masthead will be in he top left of my
magazine so that it is clearly visible.
Rough Sketches - AMP
Main image: the main image will
always be on the left hand page
and presented very largely. This is
so you can see who he artist is
about.
Interview: an interview is
important within a story as it is
primary information about the
featured artist.
Standfirst: the stand first is near
the headline so that you can see
the introduction to the story.
Drop capital: having a drop capital
makes a page more attractive to
look at.
Final Sketches
I like my hand drawn front cover because it has a big image and a clear strapline at the top. I
think this is good as it gives the magazine an identity. For example if the strapline and masthead
is the same every time, the magazine becomes more consistent.
I like my hand drawn double page spread
because it has a big image which will draw allot
of attention to the reader. Additionally it has a
quote from interview which I think can work very
effectively a it it is usually the first thing people
read and so it can draw the reader in if they find
it interesting.
House Style
My magazine will have a red, white and blue colour scheme. This is
because they are bold colours and may stand out more. This attracts
the readers and increasing the chance of a purchase.
My front cover will be set out the same in every edition. Every
edition has the mask head at the top and strapline at the top right
corner. There is always a big image and main story in the center of
the magazine with additional stories up the left or right hand side.
By making the magazines similar allows customers to repeat
purchase easily and find the magazine they want.
The font styles will always be big, bold and colourful which is good
as it grabs the readers or passing, potential buyers attention.
Font Style
Here are three different types of font for my music magazine named ‘AMP’. I
like the first one named ‘Prezident’ because it is big, bold and will be easily
recognized by customers.
However I also like my second choice which is called ‘The Juke Box’ as it is also
big and bold. Additionally It has two horizontal lines going above and below the
logo which I think is quite nice.
Finally I like my last magazine masthead which is called ‘Long Loving Letters’ as
it is like bubble writing. This may attract a younger target audience and may be
seen as quite fancy.
To conclude, I am going to use the second choice as I think it looks the most
professional and all round the best.
Font Style Final
I chose this font style
because it is big, bold
and stand out. It also
would look very
professional as it has
the lines separating the
top from the bottom
which I think looks very
professional.
Masthead Ideas
Masthead Ideas
Beat: the beat of a drum
Amplify (amp): means amplify which is music related and has connotations of
something loud.
Below, is a screenshot of my mind map I made in Unit 13 LO2 where I came up with
my first drafts on mastheads. I could not decide between Amplify and AMP at first
but I came to a conclusion that AMP sounds better, more professional and a shorter
masthead is a snappier, easy to remember masthead.
Magazines Of Inspiration
Deconstruct A Front Cover
On the front of the magazine a
very big, iconic man has been
displayed as ‘KANYE’. Many people
look up to him and therefor may
influence a boost of sales in the
magazine. This may be why the
producers have chosen this image.
Another important aspect of a
magazine is a slogan. This is very
interesting as it says ‘he’s ready.
Are you?’. This makes us think
about what he's going to be
doing which may entice us into
the magazine to read and find
out more.
Cover Lines: The variety of text
and the light blue colour depicts
how different the other stories are
and they are there for if you are
not interested in the main story.
This is good as a higher range of
customers will purchase the
magazine.
The most important features that I
believe should be included is a
clear masthead. This connotes to
the reader that the magazine is of
high importance and is of a
professional quality. This one is
large, bold and will instantly draw
attention to the reader.
Barcode: a barcode is very
important as it tells you the price
of the magazine. The price of the
magazine can be shown so people
know how much they pay for the
product.
Main Headline: the main headline
is very important to Q’s magazine
as it is the main reason why the
magazine is out. It is good that it is
on their as it is the most
interesting part of the magazine
and will catch
Moodboard
Mood board Conclusions
I picked this image because
it is bold and looks
professional. This stood
out because the business
looks like a well established
one.
I picked this image because
it is colorful and stands out
the reader or buyer in a
shop.
Draft Article
Hi Declan, how have you been since the last time we met?
Yeah I’ve been busy but pretty good thanks. Got the album coming out in a couple weeks which I’m really exited for, yeah life is going really well thanks. How are you?
Good thanks. I hear there is a new album coming out, is that true?
Yes of course, it is true. I'm so exited. Its coming out in a few weeks on the 21st. Will you be listening?
Of course I will. What can we expect from the new album?
In the new album people can expect more of the same music but more upbeat. Why? Well I just think that’s the way music is going these days. People like faster, dance kind of music.
Which is your favorite song on the new album?
Oh that’s a hard question, if I'm honest with you I don’t know because I think they are all very good and have a chance of being number one singles.
Is there any possibility in the future for joining with another artist to make bigger songs?
Yeah well, there has been many rumors about Jay-Z, Eminem and Beyoncé but I'm not giving anything away. All will be revealed in the upcoming months.
Are their any festival performances next summer we can look forward to?
I believe so. I wont say which ones as we are still waiting for them to confirm us. However it is pretty safe to say there will be one or two.
Whilst working on the new album have you been keeping up with Tottenham Hotspur FC?
Do I exactly want to keep up with them? Haha. Haha well, yeah. In all seriousness, yes I have but they haven't been performing to their best potential lately. I guess we’ll see how the season goes
on though think they will push through to get champions league.
What is next for you that we have to look forward to?
Well, there's of course the new album but most importantly, I'm really looking forward to my world tour next year.
When do you think you will settle down and stop making music?
Never, I cant ever do that. Music is my life. When you have had one dream your whole life, you should aim to fulfill that as much as you can for the rest of it.
How long have you been into music for?
I have always been into music since I was very young. Had all the latest sing star and was playing all the singing games. I had so many friiends that would get annoyed with me for singing every
where we went. I sang in the shower, saying while playing football and I was always that kid that sang better and louder than everyone else when we had singing practice.
Did you do many school concerts or karaoke when you were young?
Of course I did loads. At first I had a confidence problem in front of hundreds of people. However after I did a small solo and the crowd was cheering you know, I realized I love it and people
called me a natural performer even at the age of 12. There was about 2000 people at a consert I sang in when I was 14 which was nerve wrecking. Then when I was 18 I played the drums for a
band who were performing to 25,000 people which was easily the best night of my childhood.
How was it, performing on stage with Madonna at the 02 Arena last year?
Incredible. There are no other words to describe. She is such a born natural performer. Shes amazing, she has such a varied ocal range and without a doubt I aspire to be like her.
Okay well thank you for coming in. I look forward to the album and I hope to see you soon.
It’s a pleasure, thank you for inviting me. See you again.

I chose this Double Page Spread (DPS)
because I like the layout and I think it is
important to have a big image as this is what
draws the readers attention the most.
Additionally, I like how there is a big area for
the title and also for the actual interview.
I also like my front cover as it is well laid
out and there is competition and events at
the top. This means there is more contents
to put on the page which generally makes
it look more professional.
Photography Plan
Test Photography
These images of Declan were taken in a
hallway at school. I took more than one
photo so I could find one which stood out
from the rest and one that looked the
best.
Prop List
I have taken several images of the environment
where I conducted my pitch. I used a white board in
the center of the wall to display my pitch while I used
the small clicker to change the slide. I also used a
camera and tripod to record the pitch so there was
available video evidence of the whole thing.

Rescources Needed
To create my pitch I used
PowerPoint to create all the
slides and then uploaded this
presentation onto Prezi where
I made it look more attractive.
I used the internet to look up
offices, staff and equipment.
This was to help me working
out the budgeting and
profitability that the magazine
will generate after one year.
Equipment And Cost
Equipment Cost
Apple Mac Book Pro x25 £48,725
Microsoft Office £790 per user a month.
Desks and Chairs x25 £175/desk
£35/chair
= £5,250 All Included.
Printer x3 £232.17
Cameras x2 £428
Pens £10

http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/products/chairs-stools-benches/office-chairs/torkel-swivel-chair-bomstad-black-art-50212486/
This table illustrates the importance of cost within a business. This is because as a business
you need to budget and know how much you are spending so you can work out profitability.
Additionally, you can later on use the information to work our profit using the calculation
(revenue – cost).
Staff And Cost
Staff Salary
Publisher £53,500
Writers £50,000
Photographers £42,000

This table also demonstrates the importance of cost within a business. This is because as a
business you need to budget and know how much you are spending on staff and salaries so
you can workout potential profits. Additionally, you can later on use the information to work
our profit using the calculation (revenue – cost).
Conclusion
In LO1, Unit 14 I analyzed both Front Covers And
DPS that I had created on two styles, hand drawn
and graphic layout. I also talked about the form,
style, masthead and font style that I have chosen
for my magazine. Once this was complete, I moved
onto the mood board, magazines of inspiration and
a draft article that had gone into my magazine.
Finally I had to analyze my plan for photography,
test photography, production plan and the equipm
ent/materials I have used.

  • 2.
  • 3. Rough Sketches - AMP Barcode: the barcode will near the bottom so that is easy to scan and easier to promote the magazine. Main headline: this will be very clear in the center of the page so that it is easy and fast to understand what the story is about. Main image: the image will be in the center so that It is eye catching and can grabs the reader attention. Cover stories: the cover stories will be nearing the side so that it doesn’t cover up the main image or top story. Strapline: the strapline is placed near the masthead as they are connected and both on every edition of the magazine. Masthead: the masthead will be in he top left of my magazine so that it is clearly visible.
  • 4. Rough Sketches - AMP Main image: the main image will always be on the left hand page and presented very largely. This is so you can see who he artist is about. Interview: an interview is important within a story as it is primary information about the featured artist. Standfirst: the stand first is near the headline so that you can see the introduction to the story. Drop capital: having a drop capital makes a page more attractive to look at.
  • 5. Final Sketches I like my hand drawn front cover because it has a big image and a clear strapline at the top. I think this is good as it gives the magazine an identity. For example if the strapline and masthead is the same every time, the magazine becomes more consistent. I like my hand drawn double page spread because it has a big image which will draw allot of attention to the reader. Additionally it has a quote from interview which I think can work very effectively a it it is usually the first thing people read and so it can draw the reader in if they find it interesting.
  • 6. House Style My magazine will have a red, white and blue colour scheme. This is because they are bold colours and may stand out more. This attracts the readers and increasing the chance of a purchase. My front cover will be set out the same in every edition. Every edition has the mask head at the top and strapline at the top right corner. There is always a big image and main story in the center of the magazine with additional stories up the left or right hand side. By making the magazines similar allows customers to repeat purchase easily and find the magazine they want. The font styles will always be big, bold and colourful which is good as it grabs the readers or passing, potential buyers attention.
  • 7. Font Style Here are three different types of font for my music magazine named ‘AMP’. I like the first one named ‘Prezident’ because it is big, bold and will be easily recognized by customers. However I also like my second choice which is called ‘The Juke Box’ as it is also big and bold. Additionally It has two horizontal lines going above and below the logo which I think is quite nice. Finally I like my last magazine masthead which is called ‘Long Loving Letters’ as it is like bubble writing. This may attract a younger target audience and may be seen as quite fancy. To conclude, I am going to use the second choice as I think it looks the most professional and all round the best.
  • 8. Font Style Final I chose this font style because it is big, bold and stand out. It also would look very professional as it has the lines separating the top from the bottom which I think looks very professional.
  • 9. Masthead Ideas Masthead Ideas Beat: the beat of a drum Amplify (amp): means amplify which is music related and has connotations of something loud. Below, is a screenshot of my mind map I made in Unit 13 LO2 where I came up with my first drafts on mastheads. I could not decide between Amplify and AMP at first but I came to a conclusion that AMP sounds better, more professional and a shorter masthead is a snappier, easy to remember masthead.
  • 11. Deconstruct A Front Cover On the front of the magazine a very big, iconic man has been displayed as ‘KANYE’. Many people look up to him and therefor may influence a boost of sales in the magazine. This may be why the producers have chosen this image. Another important aspect of a magazine is a slogan. This is very interesting as it says ‘he’s ready. Are you?’. This makes us think about what he's going to be doing which may entice us into the magazine to read and find out more. Cover Lines: The variety of text and the light blue colour depicts how different the other stories are and they are there for if you are not interested in the main story. This is good as a higher range of customers will purchase the magazine. The most important features that I believe should be included is a clear masthead. This connotes to the reader that the magazine is of high importance and is of a professional quality. This one is large, bold and will instantly draw attention to the reader. Barcode: a barcode is very important as it tells you the price of the magazine. The price of the magazine can be shown so people know how much they pay for the product. Main Headline: the main headline is very important to Q’s magazine as it is the main reason why the magazine is out. It is good that it is on their as it is the most interesting part of the magazine and will catch
  • 13. Mood board Conclusions I picked this image because it is bold and looks professional. This stood out because the business looks like a well established one. I picked this image because it is colorful and stands out the reader or buyer in a shop.
  • 14. Draft Article Hi Declan, how have you been since the last time we met? I guess we’ll see how the season goes on though think they will push through to get champions league. I had so many friiends that would get annoyed with me for singing every where we went. I sang in the shower, saying while playing football and I was always that kid that sang better and louder than everyone else when we had singing practice. Did you do many school concerts or karaoke when you were young? Of course I did loads. At first I had a confidence problem in front of hundreds of people. However after I did a small solo and the crowd was cheering you know, I realized I love it and people called me a natural performer even at the age of 12. There was about 2000 people at a consert I sang in when I was 14 which was nerve wrecking. Then when I was 18 I played the drums for a band who were performing to 25,000 people which was easily the best night of my childhood.

  • 19. Final Graphic Layouts Title Main image Interview Quote from interview Main image Competition and events Co ve r sto rie s Co ve r sto rie s Slogan Main story I chose this Double Page Spread (DPS) because I like the layout and I think it is important to have a big image as this is what draws the readers attention the most. Additionally, I like how there is a big area for the title and also for the actual interview. I also like my front cover as it is well laid out and there is competition and events at the top. This means there is more contents to put on the page which generally makes it look more professional.
  • 21. Test Photography These images of Declan were taken in a hallway at school. I took more than one photo so I could find one which stood out from the rest and one that looked the best.
  • 22. Prop List I have taken several images of the environment where I conducted my pitch. I used a white board in the center of the wall to display my pitch while I used the small clicker to change the slide. I also used a camera and tripod to record the pitch so there was available video evidence of the whole thing.

  • 30. Conclusion In LO1, Unit 14 I analyzed both Front Covers And DPS that I had created on two styles, hand drawn and graphic layout. I also talked about the form, style, masthead and font style that I have chosen for my magazine. Once this was complete, I moved onto the mood board, magazines of inspiration and a draft article that had gone into my magazine. Finally I had to analyze my plan for photography, test photography, production plan and the equipm ent/materials I have used.
