1. The magazine was founded in 1986 by Mark Ellen and David
Hepworth.

3. It was published by EMAP media group from 1986 to 2008.
4. At the start it was famous for its higher standard of photography
and printing.
5. In the early years, the magazine was sub-titled "The modern guide
to music and more". Originally it was to be called Cue (as in the
sense of cueing a record, ready to play), but the name was
changed so that it wouldn't be mistaken for a snooker magazine.

1. Harris publications released the first issue of XXL.
2. Its started in 1997 in New York, USA.
3. Other titles with limited runs have been launched under
the XXL brand, including Hip-Hop Soul, Eye
Candy and Shade45. XXL has released many other special projects
including tour programs, mixtapes and exclusive DVDs. XXL also
maintains a popular website, which provides daily hip hop news,
original content and content from the magazine.
4. In 2013, XXL started their own annual awards. The public would
choose the top 5 acts along with the XXL staff.
