5. Definition of a Formal Letter
Formal letter or (official letter) is a letter issued by
certain agencies for official purposes. Because it is
intended for official purposes, this type of letter is
written using official language and has a
structure. Usually, this letter can be in the form of
formal invitations for meetings, school events,
graduation purposes, and so on.
Formal letter atau surat resmi adalah surat yang dikeluarkan oleh instansi
tertentu untuk keperluan resmi. Karena diperuntukkan untuk keperluan
resmi, jenis surat ini ditulis menggunakan bahasa yang resmi dan
memiliki struktur. Biasanya, surat ini dapat berupa undangan resmi untuk
rapat, keperluan acara sekolah, keperluan wisuda, dan lain sebagainya.
6. The Differences of Formal Letter and Informal Letter
Formal letters have an
important nature so that these
letters are usually sent by
certain agencies to the recipient
of the letter for important
matters
Formal letters also have an
official writing system and each
part has certain rules
The language used in formal
letters is the standard language
Informal letters are sent by
individuals to relatives or friends
for personal matters.
informal letters do not refer to
these things.
As for informal letters, the
language used is more relaxed
and does not refer to certain
rules.
Formal letters are certainly very different from informal letters both in
terms of use, structure, and language use.
7. Formal Letter Structure
Date = The date the letter was written
Writer address = the name of the sender/writer the
letter
Receiver’s address = the name of recipient’s/company/
government who will be given
the letter.
Opening = The opening part
Content = The contents of the official letter
Closing = Closing greetings and greetings
from the send
Signature = signature of the sender of letter
