PREFACE
Welcome to this teaching material. This module is created to develop skills in
English for Personal Communication of the students. The skills can keep and build social
relationship and interaction with other people both in written and spoken contexts of
English.
In this module, the students will learn invitation in written contexts. This material is
divided into four learning activities, and each activity provides the students with expected
learning outcomes, learning materials and learning activities consisting of definition,
generic structure, social function, and language features and supporting with learning
sources as well as assignments. Then, these are followed by discussion forum, summary,
reflection, formative test, and references.
Please read all materials given in this module in order to help you understand the
topics and to achieve the goal of this module. Read and follow each instruction carefully.

A. INTRODUCTION
1. Short Description
Invitation can be used for a variety of events such as weddings, graduation ceremonies,
annual dinners, anniversary parties and birthday parties. An invitation usually contains some
information about the host, the date and time of the event, the venue of the event and how to
accept the invitation. An invitation is usually sent many days in advance of the event, to give
the invitees an opportunity to respond to the invitation.
In this new normal era, the wedding reception is very limited person who can attend it. But it
does not be an obstacle for the people to conduct the wedding reception. Although with all of
the limitation, they want to make their daughter or their son happy with their marriage by
conducting wedding reception. They share the exclusive invitation letter for their family and
close collega. In this situation, the invitation is sent by online system. It can be sent by email,
WA, Facebook, or Instagram.
Moreover, the students in my class still have a lack of knowledge about the specific feature of
invitation. The students also still need practice in writing skill. This phenomenon inspiring me
to make a learning material about invitation letter.
2. Relevance.
This material has relationship with the syllabus of teaching learning material in the eleventh
grade. In the students can understand, applying and comparing the feature of an invitation.
They are about social functions, generic structure, and the language feature. The students can
improve their English skill and competence towards the material and can create an invitation
for the outcome.

3. Learning Guide
In this learning, the students will observe, analyze, and comprehend the social function,
generic structure, and language feature of invitation. The students also must create invitation
which is suitable with the fatures. Before studying the material deeply, the students will be
given some examples of written invitation and video. So the students can analyze the parts of
invitation to determine the elements of invitation and practice to create it.

The aim of this learning is to uphold and apply religious values, moral values,ethical
values, personal and social values, care and respect for differences and diversity,
tolerance, peace, collaboration, and nationalisme

1. To understand and compare the social functions, text structures, language features of
a number of formal invitations.
2. To analyze the social functions, text structures, and language features of a number of
formal invitations
3. To apply the knowledge to engage in social functions with formal invitations, in
contextually acceptable text structures and language features.
c. Skill
1. To analyse the contextual differences and similarities between a number of formal
invitations in regard to the social functions.
2. To analyse the contextual differences and similarities between a number formal
invitations in regard to the language features, by showing the evidence from the
texts.
3. To respond a number of formal invitations accordingly.
4. To write a formal invitation text for contextually appropriate social functions.

a. By watching the video which is given by the teacher, the students can identify and give
respons of formal invitation curiousity.
b. By the slide of text which is given by the teacher, the students can find the detail
information, general picture and written/ unwritten information in the invitation text.
c. By the text which is given by the teacher the student can take a conclusion about the
general picture of invitation.
d. The students can create the formal invitation written or digitally.

From the learning activity happened, we can conclude that the invitation

party, a meal, or a meeting. From the definition, it can be inferred that

function to request someone to join an event. An invitation may be
formal or informal, and it can also be printed form or soft file sent by
email, WA, and another social media. An invitation has key features,
