The UN Commission found after their investigation that Japan had, at the very least, violated the International Labor Organization convention against
forced labor that they had ratified in 1932. From 1993–94 the Japanese government tried unsuccessfully to establish a system to raise compensation
funds from NGO's which the movement rejected. It wasn't until August of 1995 when the then Japanese president announced the Murayama plan to
pay victims out of a private fund that many women who were formally opposed decided to accept the payment. Once they accepted the payment
however suits were filed in Japanese courts that the compensation was too small for the damages incurred but the suits were quickly overturned. The

Comfort in Nature In the horrible first war, soldiers often found peace and comfort in nature. In Erich Maria Remarque's novel All Quiet on the
Western Front many soldiers are often drawn to nature to provide comfort and peace. Young Paul Baumer, the central character in the novel,
frequently looks to nature for comfort in the midst of the war going on around him. Remarque reveals in this novel that it is possible to make a
connection to something so pure while in the midst of something horrific and unnatural like war. Paul experiences the death of his close friend
(Keimmerich), but in nature, he finds comfort and is empowered. This is shown when Paul states, "I breathe as deep as I can, and feel the breeze in
my face, warm and soft as never before" (33). This passage shows how Paul looks to nature for comfort in times where he is sad or angry. Instead of

Comfort theory was created in the 1990's by Katharine Kolcaba who was performing research on the analysis of comfort across many disciplines
(Petiprin, 2016). From her research, she created a theory of nursing based upon three major forms of comfort that humans need to achieve wellness
(Petiprin, 2016). They include: relief, ease and transcendence. Relief is the feeling obtained by patients as needs are being met (Petiprin, 2016). Ease
is what patients feel when they are relaxed and have the sense of comfort that their needs have been met and they no longer need to feel anxious
(Petiprin, 2016). Transcendence is the ability for patients to use their sense of comfort to rise above any struggles and conflicts they may be facing
