1. Characters- In this magazineadvert thereis only
one character present. Lana Del Rey is heavily
madeup with red lipstick. This is stereotypical of a
pop stars appearance. Shealso has her hair curled
is and old fashioned style, which links to thelook
of themagazineadvert. Sheis also wearing a white
blousewhich is buttoned to thetop. This is also
showing that this pictureis supposed to bein a
different timeperiod.
Narrative events- In themiseen scene of the
advert Lana Del Rey is centre of the image. This
shows that sheis centrestageas it is her album.
This takes up quitea lot of room of theoverall. The
words on theadvert ‘Born to Die’ are very
contradictiveof theimageon thefront of the
advert. The colours used arewhites and light blues.
This creates the atmosphereof calmness whereas
theactual words are very dark and miserable. This
creates a contradiction between theimageand the
wording used on theactual advert.
Technical/ audio codes-
The writing that reads ‘Lana Del Rey’ is in
a bold white font. This makes a
statement as it stands out against the
bright blue background. The writing that
reads ‘Born To Die’ is in a light blue color.
This is very contradicting as the colour
blue represents calmness whereas the
words written in blue aren’t actually calm
at all. As well as this underneath this is
writing written in italics this gives an old
fashioned feel to the advert which fits in
well with the look of the rest of the
advert.
Iconography- Lana Del Rey herself is iconic of the
genre of music sheis represented with. One
reason for this is thelook she is going for. For
examplethe doneup hair and lots of bright make
up. This iconic of a pop singer as many females are
associated with being very done up. One thing
about Lana Del Rey that is not iconic is her dress
sense. This is quiteold fashioned whereas pop
stars normally keep up with thecurrent style
trends.
Mise en scene- In themiseen sceneof theadvert
Lana Del Rey is centre of theimage. This takes up
quitea lot of room of theoverall advert. Above
her head is bold whitewriting which reads ‘Lana
Del Rey’. In theback ground you can see clear blue
sky. This contradicts with thewriting over Lana’s
body which reads ‘Born to Die’ which is thename
of her new album. This contradicts with thecalm
light imageas death is normally associated with
darkness. Thewords ‘born to die’ are also written
in a very light bluefont.
