Essay About Panama
At the most southern point of the Central American nations, lies Panama. It is south of Costa Rica
and north of Columbia. Allowing access from the Caribbean Sea to the Pacific Ocean, the Panama
Canal bisects the isthmus. There are extensive forests in the fertile Caribbean area. (Panama
overview). It is divided into nine different provinces. It is surrounded by steep cliffs and mountains
from all sides. The most famous mountainous region, commonly known as Cordillera Central, is
Cordillera de Talamanca. The highest point is the Volcan Baru, which is a dormant volcano, which
rises almost 3,500 meters. Panama is distinguished by almost 500 bodies of water that flow the
length of the country. Low mountains run through most of the country, leaving a gap in the center
that is nearly at sea level.(Geography of Panama) With Panama being a tropical climate,
temperatures are uniformly high– –as is the relative humidity––and there is little seasonal variation.

The Panama Canal Between 1904 And 1914
1502, Panama was explored and discovered by Columbus and then later on by Balboa in 1513. In
the 16th Century, Panama was probed by Spain and Spanish became its official language. In 1821,
Panama joined the Republic of Gran Colombia; a joint union of Colombia, Ecuador, and Venezuela.
In the colonial days, to be able to import and export goods between South and Central America, they
have to operate through Panama. 1903 a treaty was signed between Panama and the U.S. to have
U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to build the Panama Canal between 1904 and 1914. Panamanians
commend an impressive plan to expand the Canal. Such project was started in 2007 with an
estimated cost of $5.3 billion and it is expected to be finished and complete in 2016. This ... Show

Economy: To be one of the fastest growing economies in the past decade in Latin America with an
average of 8.4% GDP (gross domestic product) in 2004 and 2013, Panama is beyond stabled! In the
year of 2010 and 2011, the Panamanians phenomenally accelerated its growth rates to double–digits.
Their economy is extraordinarily high due to imports and exports through the Panama Canal and
other industries. Bananas, corn, coffee, and sugar are the principals of cash crop, aside from that the
agriculture sector became less important throughout the years. The 2007 project, expansion of the
Panama Canal, has become the major source of Panama's economic activities. Panama is a
dollarized economy and has a stable political environment.

In 1979, Lugo was managing researchers who were measuring the ground covered by trees within
pine plantations that were not being actively managed. His technicians came back to headquarters
sweaty and discouraged. "They said that they couldn't measure the trees without clearing all the new
undergrowth," says Lugo. "They said it was impenetrable. I thought they were wimps." The idea that
ecosystems dominated by pine, an invasive species, were so thick that his workers couldn't even
walk through them went against a central assumption of ecology: that native forests will be the
lushest. Millennia of co–evolution should have created an ecosystem in which almost every niche is

The 's Model Of Culture Care Theory
Healthcare in the United States of America is an ever increasing field of diversity. Many healthcare
workers are uneducated in diversity, resulting in insufficient patient care. As a result patients from
different backgrounds do not receive proper treatment, and refuse to seek medical attention, or are
over charged for simple procedures. Educating healthcare workers is the key to decreasing
unnecessary physician visits as well as providing patients with the sense of understanding and
respect regarding their health decisions. The preceding information will provide a brief overview of
Leinigner's Model of Culture Care Theory, Leinigner's theory applied to the Colombian Culture for
medical professionals, feelings about access to health care, barriers in healthcare, alternative
medicine and food preferences. The Leininger's Culture Care Theory focuses on "culturally
congruent care" for diverse clients based on healthcare workers becoming cultural competent.
Leininger's model can be applied to any healthcare practice as a clinical assessment tool (Leininger,
2002). A practicing nursing professional should focus on providing culturally adapted care,
functions, and acknowledge any social norms for the client. The client's health should also be
adapted based on what is culturally defined as a positive or negative state of well–being (Creasia &
Friberg, 2011). If a nurse incorporates Leiniger's theory, then the professional will "...reduce and

Essay on Red Hot Chili Peppers
Red Hot Chili Peppers
A passion for foods from the American Southwest is sweeping through the country. The main
component and most popular item of this fad is the chili pepper, an item of tremendous variability
and a staple of many people in Central America. In this country, chili peppers were once only found
in specialized ethnic stores, but now it is just as likely to be found at the neighborhood Kroger. For
most people, however, their knowledge stops here. Through this paper I hope to educate the reader
on some other aspects of this intriguing vegetable, such as its history, chemistry, and uses.
There is some confusion over what a "chili pepper" is. To many it is only the hot varieties of pepper,
such as the jalapeno or the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dr. Chanca described chili peppers as the native's principle food and compared them to the turnip
(Andrews 1984).
The seeds of the chili pepper were brought back to Spain, where it was grown in monastery gardens.
Portuguese traders then spread the chili peppers to many far flung locations, such as India,
Indonesia, and Persia (Andrews 1984).
Chile peppers became popular due to their great variability in size, shape, and color. Unfortunately,
this long proved to be a problem for the taxonomists, who frequently had trouble telling the
difference between a different variety and a different species. It wasn't until the 1950's that it was
decided that there were five main species of chili peppers, and twenty wild ones (Proulx 1985). The
five main species are: Capsicum annum, Capsicum frutescens, Capsicum chinense, Capsicum
baccatum, and Capsicum pubescens. However, it is considered impossible to develop a system of
classification that would cover all of the chili peppers, due to the great variation among the members
of the same species, especially in places such as Mexico (Smith, Villalon, and Villa 1987).
Man's interest in chili peppers has resulted in new varieties, such as the TAM Jalapeno, Hidalgo
Serrano, and Numex Big Jim, which have a milder flavor or are more resistant to disease. In order to
make chili peppers more palatable to the public, chili pepper breeders are breeding varieties that are

Observed From The Standpoint Within Western Culture, It
Observed from the standpoint within Western Culture, it can be a challenge to fully step out of the
context of it to gain an outside perspective. Nevertheless, it appears as a necessary aspect to question
what is culture and what is not, to therefore get a clearer understanding of what we are as humans.
Western Culture can arguably be considered one of the most influential cultures to the rest of the
world, and is embedded deeply in the globalization movement of the world. It is not a surprise to
find an English book or a McDonald 's in Thailand, Nigeria, or Israel. Western Culture has spread its

The Buddhist community also shares many beliefs including the Four Nobel Truths, the Eight Fold
Path, the Law of Karma, and the Middle Way. American Buddhist is a constantly growing
community that encompasses people from many paths. It is stated, "[f]or rough comparative
purposes, it is probably safe to say that the number of Buddhists in America constitutes somewhere
between 0.5percent and 1.5 percent of the total population" (Gregory 237). This minute
demographic is largely influenced by Thailand, which is where the temple I attend, Wat Florida
Dhammaram, is founded by. This is not the only culture that affects the American Buddhist
community; it is truly a cocktail of different influences, including Western Culture. Rightfully, it is
expressed, "[w]hat often gets overlooked in discussions of American Buddhism is that it is
developing within a larger global context..."(Gregory 249). Buddhism is evolving in many different
countries, and recently has began to become integrated in Western countries through the
globalization of the world and particularly through information available via electronics.
Frequently when attempting Wat Florida Dhammaram, I reflect on what living in a country like
Thailand would be like. I often consider how the culture would be different in other places also like
Colombia. These two countries can mistakenly be observed through eyes obscured by

Theme Of Magic Realism In The Mistress Of Spices
In this present technologically superfast world, where the click of buttons is changing the way
people think, plan and execute their works and live their lives, "virtual reality", "surrealism", "hyper
reality" are the terms in vogue. They are so commonly used everywhere that they may not seem
fanciful any more. However, the excitement in superstitions, magic and mysticism still prevails.
India has always caught the imagination of foreigners as the land of hidden secrets – it is viewed as
a "hub of cosmic energy" and emerging super power. The secret of Ayurvedas, the variety and depth
in art forms like dance and music are equally attractive as Kamasutra and Yoga. The co–existence of
various religions, cultures, languages has always been a source of amazement. The festivities, the
rituals and the mythological significances keep the attraction alive. ... Show more content on

Magic realism is intermingling of reality with fantasy or imagination with the use of folk lore,
fables, and mythological stories in such a way which captures the sensation of the audience in spite
of knowing the truth. It is done to generate either a feeling of awe or wonder or merely to escape

Cinematic Arts Personal Statement I have been asked "Where do you come from?" many times, and

different happenings going on. If I had to name one thing I miss from my time in Europe, it would
definitely be the festivals. There was this one summer when I went to a wine festival with my
mother. To get into town, we walked through a wide, stone bridge that hovered over a large river.
Across the lake where the river poured into, a brown, centuries–old castle stood proudly upon a hill
and peered down at the town. Stalls were set up on either side of the street and people surged
through the market talking animatedly and sharing laughs with their friends, usually with some form
of food or drink in hand. A brass band played close by and people of all ages paired up to dance to
the music that resonated throughout the town. With a bratwurst in hand, my mother and I strolled
through town and looked at the countless shops that lined the street. Even away from the stalls and
music, on every street and back alley, there were people buzzing with life and activity. The
atmosphere was cozy, happy, and welcoming. Even someone like me, who didn't speak the
language, fit right in. [how is this

A Study on Colombia
Colombia Columbia emergence as a nation is after Spanish occupation of the country's coastal lands
back in 1499. The Spanish occupation of the region lasted for 300 years influencing developments
in culture, politics and religion. In a bid to establish control over the region, Spanish colonization
destroyed the social structure that pre–existed their occupation leading to exploitation of the riches
within the country. Importation of slaves into the region resulted from the need to replenish the
weakening labor force provided by the Indian population owing to disease, intense slavery labor and
starvation. Slaves were brought in from Africa for purposes of mining silver and gold along the
pacific coast. The intermix of the three populations led to mixed race to date referred to as
'mulattoes' from intermarriage of black and whites, 'mestizos' from intermarriage of whites and

Subversity, Geography And Multiculturalization, And...
Colombia is a country that is characterized not only by its natural diversity, but also for its natural
resources, geography and multiculturalism. Among the problems faced by the Colombian society,
are: drug trafficking, corruption and the lack of education. Colombian culture is formed from the
inheritance of the Colombian natives peoples present in the territory since ancient times, the Spanish
traditions adopted during the colonial period and the African Customs incorporated by the slaves
that led the conquistadors. This mixture of cultures constitutes a society with traits common to the
rest of Latin American countries, but at the same time, very different also. Indeed, even within
Colombia's own territory there are many differences between regions and others. Geographic
diversity–can be found from tropical beaches to mountains of more than 5,000 meters in height with

Analysis of Brazil
Introduction
Brazil is a republic in South America comprising about half the area and half the population of
South America. It was a colony of Portuguese from 1500 Century and became independent in 1822
and eventually a republic in 1889. Known for its warm and tropical year around climate, the country
is an ideal place to come and visit all year round.
Country Flag
The flag of Brazil was officially adopted November 1889 by Raimundo Teixeira Mendes. It was to
be depicted as a starry sky above a Rio on November 15, 1889, the day that the Brazilian Republic
was officially declared. The flag is green to represent the many beautiful fields that Brazil offers.
The large yellow diamond represents Brazil's wealth, and the blue globe has a total of 26 stars on it
to represent each state and the Federal district that is located in Brazil. There is also a banner planted
on the blue globe that states "Ordem e Progresso" or Order of Progress which is the country's motto.
Geography
Brazil shields a great portion of the South American continent, and is bordered from the North,
West, and South by a number of countries east of the Atlantic Ocean excluding Chile and Ecuador.
The country expands an area of about 3,287,617 square miles with roughly 3,266,199 square miles
being land and about 21,410 square miles being water. This helps make Brazil the fifth largest
country in the world and the largest country in South America, occupying over half the continent.

History and Significance of Cavendish Banana
Bananas The banana plant, or Musa acuminata, is one of the most important fruiting plants on Earth.
This plant belongs to the Musaceae family, also known as the "banana family". The genus Musa
refers to "large herbaceous flowering plants" with fruit that is usually elongated and curved, with a
yellow, purple, or red rind covering soft starchy fruit (Merriam–Webster). Banana plants are often
mistaken for trees, because their "false stem" or pseudostem resembles a tree trunk. However, trees
are dicots with organized vascular bundles while banana plants are monocots, which have scattered
vascular bundles. The average cultivated banana plant stands at 16 feet tall, although they may range
from 10 to 23 feet (Nelson 26). A mature banana ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This, combined with their exceptional nutritional value–an individual banana has an energy yield of
about 95–125 kcal and the ripe fruit comes equipped with a large variety of essential vitamins and
minerals–makes them essential to food security worldwide (Anania, van Wyk). Price competition
among supermarkets has reduced margins, leading to lower prices for growers. Chiquita, Del Monte,
Dole, and Fyffes have somewhat of a monopoly over the banana plantation business, and their
plantations are centralized in Ecuador, Colombia, Costa Rica, Guatemala, and Honduras. Many
producers in these countries are wealthy land owners that have tried to raise their prices by
marketing their bananas as "fair trade" or Rainforest Alliance–certified (Wikipedia). The term
"banana republic" has been used to describe countries like Costa Rica, Honduras, and Panama

The Colombian Culture
The Colombian culture is formed from the inheritance of the indigenous peoples present in the
territory since ancient times, the Spanish traditions adopted during the colonial period and the
African Customs incorporated by the slaves that led the conquistadors. This mixture of cultures
constitutes a society with traits common to the rest of Latin American countries but, at the same
time, very different also. Indeed, even within Colombia's own territory there are many differences
between regions and others. Geographic diversity–can be found from tropical beaches to mountains
of more than 5,000 meters in height with perpetual snows–and the natural isolation of some areas
has led to this diversity. Some of the most important cultural groups according to their location are
the so–called cops, located in the Altiplano Cundiboyacense; the countries, settled in Antioquia; The
foresters, Settlers of the eastern plains; the Vallunos, settled in the area of Valle del Cauca; the
coastal, inhabitants of the Caribbean coast, and the Santander, residents of the departments of
Santander and Norte de Santander. All these groups are characterized by showing great cultural
differences among themselves, which makes Colombia a fascinating country to know and enter into
the day to day of its inhabitants. Given these circumstances in the country there is a rich variety of
fauna and flora, since the quantities of species find their habitat in different regions of the country.

Cusco Vs Peru
The city of Cusco, Peru covers around 150 square miles in total; to contrast, Lima, Peru is over six
times that size (Cartwright). Many people wonder how they could be alike at all, and without the
immense Peruvian pride throughout both cities, they would appear alien to each other. The two most
well–known Peruvian cities are different in too many ways to count. Cusco used to be the center of
the Incan Empire and is known for its ancient ruins that are overflowing with history, while Lima's
parks and street art are beautiful examples of modern art and pull dozens of different cultures
together. Lima and Cusco differ in an infinite number of ways, but both cities stand out, especially

Peru as a whole is known for speaking very clear and easy–to–understand Spanish. Many say that it
is the easiest to speak and understand. Overall, Peruvians have mild accents and speak slower than
their neighboring countries, such as Colombia and Chile. Although slang exists in both cities, it is
not only simple and self–explanatory, but they are also words and phrases used throughout the
country. For example, in both parts of the country, the word "flaca," which is literally translated to
"skinny," means "girlfriend." On the same note, the word "guachimán" means "watchman" in Peru.
In parts of South America, changing cities means learning an entire new language, but in Peru, that
is not necessary. If one studies Spanish in Lima, he would easily be able to use the vocabulary and

Oysters : Historically Not Just For The Wealthy
Oysters: Historically Not Just for the Wealthy The oyster's role has change many times throughout
history; from the staple food of the Wampanoag Indians to the oyster saloons in New York, moving
to the dining rooms of Boston all the way to San Francisco. It moved from a food item of sheer
necessity to serendipity and, according to the Oxford Encyclopedia of Food and Drink in America
(2004), during the 1610 Jamestown food shortage, colonists traveled to the James Rivers to sustain
themselves on the bounty of oysters. By the 1800s, it is deemed that the demand of oysters was so
high that the Atlantic and Gulf coast beds began to deplete (Oxford Encyclopedia, 2004) but, that
didn't slow down their consumption. Oysters were consumed by all classes, at all times of the day
and where available, all season long. Charles Mackay, an English traveler, wrote that "the rich
consume oysters and Champagne; the poorer classes consume oysters and large bier, and that is one
of the principal social differences between the two sections of the community" (Life and Liberty,
1859). No matter the social class or status, oysters were for everyone. Early Beginnings When you
hear the word oysters, does it bring images of oysters on the half shell, or Oysters Rockefeller in a
fine dining establishment on a special occasion. Or does the thought of spending upwards to $15 for
3 of those little delicacies make you stop and decide their not worth the trouble? Oysters were once

This understanding and pre–planning is something that we do during a Pre–Deployment Site Survey
(PDSS). From personal experience, I admit that detachments that I have served on weren't as
prepared as Finian. Our PDSS has returned to the detachment with questions left unanswered and I
attribute that to a lack of prior understanding of the environment. If prior research is not conducted
to understand the full spectrum, there is no way that a thorough site survey can occur. This can lead
to an ill–prepared deployment and risk damaging rapport with the host nation. Another imperative
that Father Finian displayed was his ability to ensure legitimacy and credibility with the local
population. He did so not by showing up as the educated, knowledgeable, and powerful American,
but by making himself a peer amongst the locals. Finian knew there were three things that had to
happen rather quickly: Find a courageous Catholic, learn the local language, and build an immunity
to the local cuisine and water. Finding another Catholic is an obvious must; however, learning the
local language and eating the local fare is an imperative that Americans are doing less of as the years
go by. Learning the language and eating the food should be an obvious necessity but that's not the
case. Some Americans have the arrogance that English is the superior language of the world and that
others should strive to learn it. I say this because one of those Americans

To liberalize a series of activities of the energy sector and to open this sector to the competition

The three stakeholders in the shark finning situation are the consumers and fishermen which believe
shark finning should not be banned and the environmentalists which believe shark finning should be

Popular Beverage Items of Colombia and Ecuador
When traveling to Columbia, there are several specialty drinks that are native to the region. One
who may prefer a non–alcoholic beverage may choose a Colombiana, a tamarind soda. When it
comes to alcoholic beverages, rum tends to be the popular choice. According to South America
(2014), "The Colombian rum is high quality and is likely to be drunk at night clubs. Unlike in
Europe or North America where you can order a single drink mixed with rum, here it is generally
served as an entire bottle" (p. 1). Colombians usually drink rum at a table in a group with over ice
with a splash of lime. In Ecuador, canelazo is a widely popular alcoholic beverage. It is a spicy yet
sweet drink that is served warm in the Northern Ecuadorian regions. According to Metropolitan
Touring (2014), "It is made with water, cinnamon sticks (canela), brown sugar, an acid fruit juice
such as naranjilla or lemon and aguardiente (fire water). A steaming glass of canelazo is very much
appreciated in chilly Andean nights" (para. 4). A canelazo is poured into a short, thick glass then

Tradition has been said to mirror a way of life. Observation has concluded that participants in
tradition "actively construct as well as reflect culture and community" (Sacks 275). For most people
in the 21st century, tradition only reveals itself during special times or certain seasons. For others it
is simply a way of life. The foodways of Mexicans and Native Americans are of particular interest in

In this essay, I will discuss the history of tamales; their origin and reason for existence. I will review

improved types of tamales. I will entwine different perspectives and narratives of personal
encounters with tamales, their production, and how it has come to affect their personal lives in
relation to race, gender and family or community roles. Finally I will discuss the differences and
similarities in tamales in my native state of New Mexico, and in my new home state of Colorado,
and I will introduce tamales from and around the world in Spanish speaking countries, including a
focus on such ethnicities as Mexican and Native Americans. I hope to prove that tamales are more
than just good food; they belong to a people who work diligently for the sake of their family and
their heritage.

Analysis Of The Book ' The First P.f '
History Even though the first P.F. Chang 's opened in 1993, the story really began way back in the
1960s. It started with a lady named Cecilia Chiang running a flourishing and wildly successful
Chinese restaurant named The Mandarin. In 1974, she opened a second location in posh Beverly
Hills, feeding celebrities the likes of John Lennon and Yoko Ono. The celebration we see in the
media of celebrity chefs today really started with Cecelia Chang. She was indeed a pioneer. That
very same year, Cecilia returned to China for an extended trip. Her son, Philip, fresh out of art
school, struggled finding work as an artist. He quickly stepped in to run the restaurant. At that time a
restaurateur called Paul Fleming, based in Arizona, was running a successful restaurant concept,
spending time at his regular Chinese place in Los Angeles called Mandarette. Fleming broke with
the traditional Chinese restaurant format, and with his collaborator, Chef Philip Chiang, devised a
selectively limited menu that featured far fewer dishes than the menus of typical, full–service,
Chinese restaurants. Incorporating an American steak house dining style and a formidable selection
of wines and cheeses, P.F. Chang 's offers such items not offered in traditional Chinese restaurants
such as espresso and cappuccino. Despite displaying highly stylish décor in the tradition of Ming
and Tang Dynasties with many hand painted murals, P.F. Chang China Bistros are very moderately
priced, a concept

seconds to a minute. 5. Roll chicken into the flour bowl back and forth until it is fully covered with
flour. 6. Using tongs, slowly and carefully place floured chicken into frying pan and close it 7. Wait

In the 16th Century, Panama was probed by Spain and Spanish became its official language. In 1821, Panama joined the Republic of Gran Colombia; a joint union of Colombia, Ecuador, and Venezuela. In the colonial days, to be able to import and export goods between South and Central America, they have to operate through Panama. 1903 a treaty was signed between Panama and the U.S. to have U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to build the Panama Canal between 1904 and 1914. Emma Marris learns to appreciate 'novel ecosystems'. J oe Mascaro, a PhD student in a T–shirt and floral print shorts, is soaking in the diversity of the Hawaiian jungle. Above, a green canopy blocks out most of the sky. Aerial roots wend their way down past tropical trunks, tree ferns and moss–covered prop roots to an understorey of ferns and seedlings. In 1979, Lugo was managing researchers who were measuring the ground covered by trees within pine plantations that were not being actively managed. His technicians came back to headquarters sweaty and discouraged. "They said that they couldn't measure the trees without clearing all the new undergrowth," says Lugo. "They said it was impenetrable. I thought they were wimps." The idea that ecosystems dominated by pine, an invasive species, were so thick that his workers couldn't even walk through them went against a central assumption of ecology: that native forests will be the lushest. Millennia of co–evolution should have created an ecosystem in which almost every niche is filled, converting the available energy into trees and other species in the most efficient way. Conservationists also generally assume that native ecosystems ILLUSTRATIONS BY JANUSZ KAPUSTA job of providing 'ecosystem services', those things that nature does that benefit humanity, such as filtering water in wetlands, controlling erosion on hillsides, sequestering carbon from the atmosphere and building soil. • 11. The 's Model Of Culture Care Theory Healthcare in the United States of America is an ever increasing field of diversity. Many healthcare workers are uneducated in diversity, resulting in insufficient patient care. As a result patients from different backgrounds do not receive proper treatment, and refuse to seek medical attention, or are over charged for simple procedures. Educating healthcare workers is the key to decreasing unnecessary physician visits as well as providing patients with the sense of understanding and respect regarding their health decisions. The preceding information will provide a brief overview of Leinigner's Model of Culture Care Theory, Leinigner's theory applied to the Colombian Culture for medical professionals, feelings about access to health care, barriers in healthcare, alternative medicine and food preferences. The Leininger's Culture Care Theory focuses on "culturally congruent care" for diverse clients based on healthcare workers becoming cultural competent. Leininger's model can be applied to any healthcare practice as a clinical assessment tool (Leininger, 2002). A practicing nursing professional should focus on providing culturally adapted care, functions, and acknowledge any social norms for the client. The client's health should also be adapted based on what is culturally defined as a positive or negative state of well–being (Creasia & Friberg, 2011). • 13. Essay on Red Hot Chili Peppers Red Hot Chili Peppers A passion for foods from the American Southwest is sweeping through the country. The main component and most popular item of this fad is the chili pepper, an item of tremendous variability and a staple of many people in Central America. In this country, chili peppers were once only found in specialized ethnic stores, but now it is just as likely to be found at the neighborhood Kroger. For most people, however, their knowledge stops here. Through this paper I hope to educate the reader on some other aspects of this intriguing vegetable, such as its history, chemistry, and uses. Dr. Chanca described chili peppers as the native's principle food and compared them to the turnip (Andrews 1984). The seeds of the chili pepper were brought back to Spain, where it was grown in monastery gardens. Portuguese traders then spread the chili peppers to many far flung locations, such as India, Indonesia, and Persia (Andrews 1984). Chile peppers became popular due to their great variability in size, shape, and color. Unfortunately, this long proved to be a problem for the taxonomists, who frequently had trouble telling the difference between a different variety and a different species. It wasn't until the 1950's that it was decided that there were five main species of chili peppers, and twenty wild ones (Proulx 1985). The five main species are: Capsicum annum, Capsicum frutescens, Capsicum chinense, Capsicum baccatum, and Capsicum pubescens. However, it is considered impossible to develop a system of classification that would cover all of the chili peppers, due to the great variation among the members of the same species, especially in places such as Mexico (Smith, Villalon, and Villa 1987). Man's interest in chili peppers has resulted in new varieties, such as the TAM Jalapeno, Hidalgo Serrano, and Numex Big Jim, which have a milder flavor or are more resistant to disease. In order to make chili peppers more palatable to the public, chili pepper breeders are breeding varieties that are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Spanish occupation of the region lasted for 300 years influencing developments in culture, politics and religion. In a bid to establish control over the region, Spanish colonization destroyed the social structure that pre–existed their occupation leading to exploitation of the riches within the country. Importation of slaves into the region resulted from the need to replenish the weakening labor force provided by the Indian population owing to disease, intense slavery labor and starvation. This plant belongs to the Musaceae family, also known as the "banana family". The genus Musa refers to "large herbaceous flowering plants" with fruit that is usually elongated and curved, with a yellow, purple, or red rind covering soft starchy fruit (Merriam–Webster). Banana plants are often mistaken for trees, because their "false stem" or pseudostem resembles a tree trunk. It moved from a food item of sheer necessity to serendipity and, according to the Oxford Encyclopedia of Food and Drink in America (2004), during the 1610 Jamestown food shortage, colonists traveled to the James Rivers to sustain themselves on the bounty of oysters. For most people in the 21st century, tradition only reveals itself during special times or certain seasons. For others it is simply a way of life. It started with a lady named Cecilia Chiang running a flourishing and wildly successful Chinese restaurant named The Mandarin. In 1974, she opened a second location in posh Beverly Hills, feeding celebrities the likes of John Lennon and Yoko Ono. The celebration we see in the media of celebrity chefs today really started with Cecelia Chang. She was indeed a pioneer. That very same year, Cecilia returned to China for an extended trip. Her son, Philip, fresh out of art school, struggled finding work as an artist. He quickly stepped in to run the restaurant. At that time a restaurateur called Paul Fleming, based in Arizona, was running a successful restaurant concept, spending time at his regular Chinese place in Los Angeles called Mandarette. Fleming broke with the traditional Chinese restaurant format, and with his collaborator, Chef Philip Chiang, devised a selectively limited menu that featured far fewer dishes than the menus of typical, full–service, Chinese restaurants. Incorporating an American steak house dining style and a formidable selection of wines and cheeses, P.F. Chang 's offers such items not offered in traditional Chinese restaurants such as espresso and cappuccino.
