Essay on education in America
The United States has been teaching its students for countless years now. Today's education process
in the United States is that of the banking process. Paulo Freire gives light to a new and advanced
process by which America should learn by, one that will prove to be an investment for the nations
society, and soon will.
For years now we have been learning in Americas institutions for the first eighteen to twenty–five
years of our lives. Always being taught by our teachers and professors, hoping that what they say
will give us light to a hopeful future. Students generally sit in a classroom and absorb or bank, to
put it in words of Paulo Freire, the information given or taught by the teachers. According to Paulo
Freire we take information...show more content...
Test it out for ourselves in a group session.
Researchers report that, regardless of the subject matter, students working in small groups tend to
learn more of what is taught and retain it longer than when the same content is presented in other
instructional formats.

Group work allows multiple input into one area of study or topic and thus allows the group to come
to a consensus or understanding on that topic.
Group work has been tossed around for years now. In the medical field is where group consensus
originated. Doctors found that having an opinion of a legion of doctors as opposed too just having
the opinion of one doctor is more beneficial to the patient. The same has expanded into the business
sector. Businesses encourage and often require meetings or group sessions to discuss various topics.
In these meetings many ideas or viewpoints related to a common topic are laid on the table. These
topics are then evaluated, reviewed, contemplated, and then put into effect. The outcome is an idea
that is not only beneficial to the one who thought of it but also a benefit to the whole corporate
entity. Group work allows good points from various angles to come together and form the most
favorable situation.
The idea of group work has been increasingly integrated into the learning process today. Teachers
now allow more group work among students. Allowing to do so gives the students more freedom and
thus a cushion like feeling that

Teaching in America
ABSTRACT: The term "teaching" is usually used in the Academy without a clear sense of what is
meant, resulting in imprecise and ineffective teaching. The standard lines–that teaching is a matter
of applying approved methods, that teaching is mostly a matter of teaching skills–as–means to some
career or whatever–are reflective of failure in the Academy, measured in its "defect rate" of around
30 percent. The definition of teaching I sketch–skills adopted from a theoretical foundation, in turn
based on a critique–is well founded in the scholarly tradition. Such a definition is, however,
challenging to an Academy at the end of an ancien rГ©gime. It has been apparent for a couple
decades that something is wrong...show more content...
(2) On the other hand, a review of the ERIC articles database turns up recent reports suggesting that
two–year college students are not likely to complete the programs they enter, and are even less likely
to enter baccalaureate programs for reasons that are unclear.
The anecdotal accounts are more puzzling. E. g.: A staffer in the thirty–year–old "experimental"
college of a selective private university in the New York area reports that, despite
higher–than–average SAT scores in its entering classes, students' basic skills, especially writing
skills, continue to slide.
The common response to all this confusion has been to develop methods through which new
teachers may be guided into paths of righteous and effective teaching of their various disciplines.
The ERIC articles database is chock full of reports of this and that method for teaching this or that
subject. Quite prestigious universities grant doctoral degrees to people who develop new methods.
"How–to–teach" courses are increasingly a feature of graduate programs in otherwise
research–oriented regimens.
Presidents and deans make it a point to show up at such offering words of wisdom about the
importance of teaching. The line is, "We mustn't forget, we are a teaching institution." In the system
where I teach that is a direct and institutionalized reference to a difference from other colleges of the
system.
No one ever seems to get around to saying just what teaching is.

Education in America
Education in the United States is a very crucial part of a person's life. Going to school opens doors
and facilitates the pathway for future individual achievement and economic success. Formal
education is a conscious effort by human society to convey the skills and modes of thought
considered essential for social functioning.
According to the census 2000, the total number of people in school between nursery and high school
is approximately 57 million. Out of those 57 million, roughly 49 million are in public school. In
students 15 – 17 years old, 30.8 % are below the modal grade. Furthermore, between 10 through 12
graders the annual dropout rate is 4.7%. Continuing education to the college level is a very...show

Today, however, it seems as if the public has lost track of the importance of a great educational
system. The main issue today's public schools faces are funding problems. There is not enough
money allocated to support the growing needs of school across the nation.
Most of the other problems the schools face are directly related to the funding issue. Buildings
are run down and sometimes mobile because of the lack of finances. No child wants to go to
school in a dreary building that smells bad. It makes it hard to concentrate and hard to study in
buildings such as this. Every school has some type of sport being played by the students. For
some, sports are the only reason they do not drop out of school. However, if finances are not
available then the school should focus mostly on the education of all of its students as a whole,
not just a few who think they cannot make it without sports. Without the financial issues, schools
have even more problems. School violence is becoming more and more common. School should
be a place where children come to learn and be with their peers, in a very good environment. It
should not be a place where children are afraid to go because of the anger or hurt of other children.
This is probably the major issue of the public today.
No matter what the issue, schools have important issues that they have to work around and with
everyday to
