Masculinity In The Gas Room-Personal Narrative
A couple of weeks ago I was introduced to a character at a gas station whom I only thought lived
between the pages of a graphic novel. However, before this diatribe about masculinity takes a turn
for the depressed and uninspired, there is an important detail I left out of my first story. Before I
reveal it to you, let's go back to what he was doing before he arrived awkwardly lost at the gas
station.
The night before had brought a starless night with rain, but daybreak cracked through on a
promising Saturday morning. The sky awoke with clouds dissipating. Hues of indigo beckoned the
light between the black sky and the blue. Fog clung to the rolling hills while the varnished sun lit up
the fields. In the distance, a faint sound rumbled over the quiet wisps still hanging in the air.

Blueberry and bitter chocolate spar on the nose, backed by secondary notes of Asian spices with a
thread of earthy leather underneath it all. This one opens up slowly and is actually better on day two.
Balanced on the palate, with seamless tannins, hinting at an elegance that never quite fully develops.
I'm sure with a slight shift in paradigm, one could read this as a description of a man. One of my
favorite aspects of wine tasting, apart from the tasting, is the art of the wine description. They are so
wonderfully poetic and ridiculously fun literarily speaking. To evaluate a man in such a fashion
holds even more hilarious entertaining potential.
In keeping with this comparison, it is said that vines challenged by drought like conditions will work
harder to reach through the soil for moisture. The process produces a grape with a higher sugar
content. There are many other factors that play into the formation of a good vintage. The life of a
man is eerily similar. A man who has worked by the sweat of his brow later releases a mature
sweetness that robustly captures all the tannins, spices, and earthy overtones which define his

`` Hyperesthesia, Or, The Sensual Logic Of Late Capitalism ``
Often times, our senses can trigger memories that are hidden in the crevices throughout our brain.
The smell of fresh linen can activate a childhood memory of playing in the backyard while a parent
hangs wet laundry on a clothesline. The taste of gingerbread ice–cream can awaken a memory of
visiting grandma's house. The sight of purple daisies can arouse a memory of attending a wedding
decorated with purple daisies. Senses stimulate our memories because according to cultural
anthropologist Constance Classen, "senses themselves may each be linked with different trains of
associations" (Classen 1997: 401). Because of this link, senses and memories have an interwoven
relationship. Furthermore, some consumer capitalists have exploited this interrelationship to profit
themselves.
In David Howes' article, "HYPERESTHESIA, or, The Sensual Logic of Late Capitalism," Howes
explains how capitalists today are focusing on multisensory marketing to fully evoke a sensual
experience when one walks into a store or passes by a product (Howes 2005: 298) . This way, the
shopper will be more alert and therefore, be more inclined to purchase goods. This phenomenon is
known as hyperesthesia, which is the heightened experience of senses. This experience fully engulfs
one's sight, smell, hearing, taste, or touch, which can cause an overwhelming yet unforgettable
sensation. Some critics have viewed this hypersensuality as an excessive notion to seduce
consumers into purchasing goods; however others

Cork’d: Building a Social Network for Wine Lovers
Problem Statement
Cork'd is a New York based wine social network. The site has been very successful; however, it is at
a point where it is encountering financial distress. Cork'd's start–up funds are diminishing and they
are shorthanded on developers. The company is confronted with two major alternatives (1) Stay with
their current business model or (2) Create a different business model in order to not only stay on
business but to compete and regain the members both individuals and wineries that they have lost to
their competitors.
Situation Analysis
Since Cork'd inception in February 2006, the company was designed for and by wine lovers. Time
showed that this industry had such a demand that needed more dedication and that is when ... Show

Major Strategic Alternatives
There are two major alternatives, which may be considered by Cork'd:
1. Current model is good but execution is weak
2. Different model is needed for generating revenues
Staying with the current model
This alternative would imply that only one source of income would be utilized. Therefore, their
major marketing campaign would have to be concentrated on aggregate value to wineries through
the website. However, Cork'd is behind building the website, which only indicates that not enough
time is dedicated to the same. Emphasis would need to be put in how to provide better value to both
wineries as well as users.
Adopting another business model
This alternative would imply a consideration to the following models:
– Advertising
– User fees
– Selling wine (becoming an online distributor to member wineries or commissions from various
online distributors linked from the site)
The more advertisement, the more exposure the company will have. Even though, Gary mentions
the website when he is invited to different shows; additional advertisement campaigns could be
launched, such as advertisements on the website (wine related, i.e. wine accessories).
At the same time Cork'd is trying to make a decision, Cellartracker.com, a competitor is charging an
user fee according to the amount of wines and comments each user has. That is a great idea. Cork'd
needs to keep in mind

The Wine And Food Pairings
This book represents decades of tasting, researching, studying personal development and
transformation and implementing all into my own life. Over the past few years, I found the key to a
delicious, fulfilling life is to fill it with luscious experiences, beauty, style and action taking in the
areas that are most important.
The wine and food pairings included in the book are from my own love of both and time spent in the
Sonoma, Willamette Valley and Italy wine regions for most of my adult life. You will find most of
the pairings come from these regions. However, I am honored to also be featuring pairings from the
experts: the winemakers and winery owners themselves. You will love their stories and favorite

Visit To Temecula, California
I chose Temecula, California because I have always dreamed to visit Temecula. Temecula,
California, a Large city in the southwestern region of the state, is known for skating, wineries, and
shopping. Temecula also has a lot of historical sites to visit. This would be an educational and fun
trip.
There is many historical sites in Temecula, California for instance Old Town Temecula, Peltzer
farm, Temecula berry company, and Old Town Temecula jail you know the little things that
Temecula is known for. These sites are all small individual historic structures, but they're what
makes up Temecula.
Temecula is a large city of 106,780 people. That is a lot bigger than what I am use to,
Ste.Genevieve, Missouri there is only 4,405 people. That is not a lot compared to Temecula
California. This city has been around since 1859.
In Temecula there is many tours you can take. Especially tours of wineries. They have other tours

Personally I would drive to long beach even though it is about an hour and a half away. I'd go for the

My overall impression of Temecula, California is that it is a great family place. Also I figured out
that there was more to do than to just go to the skatepark and to go shopping and get a new
skateboard. I notice that there is so much more than I even thought of. Going to Temecula,
California would not only be an amazing vacation, but it is an opportunity to try new things and to
learn new things as well. Old Town Temecula is going to blow your mind.
So in conclusion I would give temecula a 4 out of 5 star rating. This is more of a family city.
Temecula will be my future destination. Hopefully your families could enjoy this at some

With the warm afternoon sun on my face, the grape vines brilliantly lit, this could be Northern Italy.
However, this was the Castle Winery in Calistoga, California, where I signed up for the wine tour.
Hank our tour guide ushered everyone into the chapel for an introduction to the winery and the
history of the castle. We learn that Napa Valley has been producing wine for over a century. The
unique climate and soil give the wine a special flavor the French call "sense of place."
Hank continued pointing out the castle's high defensive walls, courtyards constructed with materials,
and methods used a thousand years ago, In addition, to the wine aging room and the tasting room
below ground. The castle has over one hundred rooms on eight levels, both above and below

learned about the tour.
Linda says, "I read an article in the San Francisco Chronicle about the winery. The article gave the
tour a high rating because of the wines available for sampling and the Tuscan style architecture."
I asked, "What do you like about the tour?"
"I thought it was fascinating, how the wines are made."
When it was our turn to choose a wine Linda selected a Merlot. She tells me, "I like this wine; it has
a medium body, the flavor of currants, blackberries, and spice, along with a chocolate–toffee finish."
"That sounds really good."
Next, was the 2011 Simpatica Riesling, with its citrus and honeysuckle aroma.
Together, we say, "That would be a great wine to pair with a lobster dinner." Then chuckle we both
had the same thought.

First Step Of Tasting Wine
The first step of tasting wine is by looking at the appearance of the wine. Firstly, hold the stem of
the glass away from yourself about 45° and then looking at the colour of wine. The colour and the
intensity of wine is quite important to identifying the quality of wine. For the white wine, the colour
is intensifies with age. Young white wines is normally colourless, or light lemon colour. An older
white wine will have more intense colour if compare to young white wines. Conversely, for the
young red wine, it can be purplish in colour and it will develop in brick red colour. If the wine had
already go through aging process, the colour of wine will look deeper and darker. Besides that, you
also must look at the textures of the wine by swirling the wine to see the speed of the leg.

Consumer segmentation in the wine industry takes on many forms: demographic, geographic,

is the

on lifestyle and personality; and ~4! behavioral, which is based on occasions, benefits, usage rate,
readiness to purchase stage, and so on+ ~ Zikmund, 1999!+
In the wine industry, some of the most extensive research on market segmentation has come from
Australia+ One of the premiere studies was that of McKinna, in which he focused on the geographic
segment of consumers in the South Australian wine industry, and then was able to divide this
consumer grouping more specifically into a psychographic segmentation based on five wine
lifestyles ~ McKinna, 1986!+ This research was further expanded upon and empirically validated by
a cadre of other wine marketing researchers ~ Bruwer, Li, & Reid, 2001; Hall & Winchester, 1999;
Johnson, Ringham, &

Related Literature Of Blindness
Chapter 2: Review of Related Literature
Blindness may be perceived differently among individuals. It can be a blessing or a curse. It may be
physical or psychological. It can be a metaphor to show the passion that is proportionate to the loss
or gain, happiness or misery, peace or war. When our judgment is clouded by too much passion or
excessive love, there is a tendency to be blinded to the limitless pitfalls (Bady, 2016). Blindness in a
figurative sense can be seen as a split between ignorance and concealment. Literarily, it can be seen
in the following phrases–Blind ignorance (lacking knowledge), blind stupor (lacking awareness),
blind prejudice (lacking a critical or questioning attitude), blind taste test (tasting without looking),
blind presentation (lacking preparation or information) (Paterson, 2014). Blindness not only means
the lack of vision but also the lack of intellectual perception. In our everyday life it can cost a lot. It
necessary then to use our sight, insight and/or foresight to be able to safeguard our happiness and

Brand Building Blocks
BRAND BUILDING BLOCKS
Building Strong Brands: Why Is It Hard?
It is not easy to build brands in today 's environment. The brand builder who attempts to develop a
strong brand is like a golfer playing on a course with heavy roughs, deep sand traps, sharp doglegs,
and vast water barriers. It is difficult to score well in such conditions. Substantial pressures and
barriers, both internal and external, can inhibit the brand builder. To be able to develop effective
brand strategies, it is useful to understand these pressures and barriers
Different factors that make it difficult to build brands are shown in the figure above. The first,
pressure to compete on price, directly affects the motivation to build brands. The second reason, the

What, then, happens to the people who support the brand with market research or other brand–

2. Proliferation Of Competitors
New, vigorous competitors come from a variety of sources. A host of food categories have watched
Weight Watchers and Healthy Choice enter their markets through brand extension strategies. In the
snack category, Frito–Lay has seen regional brands expand and Budweiser 's Eagle brand break out
of its niche to become a major competitor. New product forms that provide real alternatives for the
customer have encroached the soft drink market, bottled water, carbonated water, fruit–based drinks,
and "new age" drinks, among others.
Additional competitors not only contribute to price pressure and brand complexity, but also make it
much harder to gain and hold a position. They leave fewer holes in the market to exploit and fewer
implementation vehicles to own. Each brand tends to be positioned more narrowly, the target
markets become smaller, and the non–target market becomes larger. Efforts to market to a broad
segment thus become more difficult in the face of the complex 'brandscape' Further, some new or
desperate competitors may be motivated to take risks or attempt unusual approaches. The result can
be destabilization of the competitive dynamics. There is also an enhanced motivation to copy
anything that is successful, in part because the risks of

Communication As A Fundamental Role
Communication plays a fundamental role in all facets of our life, personal or professional: it builds
and maintains relationships. In contrast, poor communication skills can have a negative impact on
all aspects of a person's life. If I do not have any difficulty to communicate with some people (the
flow of the conversation is effortless and natural and I appreciate sharing thoughts and ideas with
them), communication with others can become a struggle and asks me a lot of effort to understand
what the other person thinks or is trying to say. I also noticed that my emotions could have a
significant impact on the way I communicate with others. If I do think that everything can be said,
everything is in the way of saying it. And the way I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I was conscious that telling him that, furthermore in front of the others, would offence him. Here
again, I could have made the effort to have the others participate in the exchange without
deliberately offending anyone. As a result, Karim being a person who apparently does not like to
face conflicts, tried his best to avoid me during the trip, and it was like trying to catch a fish with
bare hands to interact with him. In Uruguay, the first meeting of the group happened to take place
with everybody but me. During this meeting, the choice of the interviewee was again made by
Karim and as Xin Yi pointed out that I should also participate in the choice and offer to go and fetch
me, but Karim did not pay attention to her remark and carried on with the meeting as she reported to
me later. Here again, this behaviour irritated me, for two reasons. Firstly, because I thought the
choice of the interview should have been discussed by the entire team, and secondly and mostly
because Xin Yi had been listened to by neither Karim nor the team. And at that point, I began to
have the bias that as women what we could say was not considered. Later that day, annoyed by this
situation, I told the team that I totally disagreed with the behaviour of our group and that a meeting
should be held in order to discuss the rules to be implemented in our team (in a nutshell that all the
decisions should be taken by the group in its totality, and that

What Can You Choose The Wrong Option? Essay
We often think that there is a right and wrong way to pairing wine and food and to living our lives.
There is a problem with this thinking – it assumes that things that are pleasurable and creative are
either right or wrong. And, if you choose the wrong option, perhaps you will suffer from that
decision. When we let go and add in some creativity and playfulness into our pairings and life we
start living with loving ease.
Food and wine pairings can be absolutely magical. They can be so sensual and delightful. So can life
pairings and the way we live each day, day in and day out. We were not meant to just exist through
life, we were meant to live fully alive in each moment and to make a difference in the world.
This book is your invitation to a radically different possibility and the idea of celebrating your
deliciousness in the world with beauty, abundance, style, balance, ease and freedom.
I know what it feels like to live day in and day out living by rules, judging myself and making
everything and everyone outside of me greater than me. I know what it feels like to believe that, "I
am not enough". Having lived most of my adult life on this basis, I went on to create an un–fulfilling
corporate career, unhappy, frustrating relationships, an unhealthy body.... all parts of the equation
until a trip to Italy, where I discovered a new way of living – living la dolce vita!
You see my story begins in my 20's when I lived a carefree, luscious, adventurous life in the

Non Profit Fundraiser For The Helpers Organization Essay
Non–Profit Fundraiser for the Helpers Organization
I chose to complete a fundraiser with The Helpers Organization, which is a nonprofit information
and referral program located in Norfolk, Virginia. The Helpers Organization was founded in 2008 by
Antwan Staton, as a 501(c) (3) non–profit. It provided utility bills assistance, career programs, and
personal growth workshops to the less fortunate people in the Hampton Roads community. They are
also a referral program, which provides assistance on a case by case basis. Their utility program is to
help clients on a one time basis. After the client receives the Helpers Organization assistance they
are encouraged to recover from their situation, without further assistance. However, The Helpers
Organization can refer the client to other resources, if necessary. The Helpers Organization primary
goal is to help the community of Hampton Roads, by encouraging them to do better with little
assistance.
Planning Process and Type of Fundraiser
Due to my internship interest with The Helpers Organization I was already in contact with the CEO
and president of the organization, Antwan Staton. I expressed my interest in assisting the
organization's fundraiser and inquired about the process of joining the fundraiser committee. I
decided I would assist with the California Pizza Kitchen Fall Wine Tasting. The goal that we set was
$5,500. We decided to name it Fall Wine Tasting and host it at California Pizza Kitchen, it was
located in MacArthur

Compare And Contrast The Great Gatsby By Ernest Hemingway
Nothing is more powerful than the emotions which inevitably accompany the sensory descriptors
that people experience day in and day out. Due to this, many writers incorporate descriptive writing
meant to harness precise images that specifically target sensory–oriented imagery in an attempt to
force the reader to better connect to the literature. It also enables the reader to imagine a unique
atmosphere. As one of Time Magazine's All–Time 100 novels, The Great Gatsby, by F. Scott
Fitzgerald, and the well–known novel The Old Man and the Sea, by Ernest Hemingway, both utilize
an imagistic writing style throughout. While both authors include the enticing aspects of imagistic
writing, both portray the style in a different manner. This results in ... Show more content on

Despite this similarity, they differ slightly in the application of this style of writing. In the novel,
The Great Gatsby, when Nick and Gatsby were talking at one of Gatsby's extravagant parties, "
[their] eyes lifted over the rose–beds and the hot lawn and the weedy refuse of the dog–days
alongshore. Slowly the white wings of the boat moved against the blue cool limit of the sky. Ahead
lay the scalloped ocean and the abounding blessed isles" (118 Fitzgerald). As F. Scott Fitzgerald
wrote this novel, he included endless descriptions that ensured that the reader would be able to
engage with the text. The extremely descriptive imagistic writing enables the reader to relate to the
text by being able to not only envision the scene, but also feel the movement of the boat as it swayed
with the ocean and hear the white wings beating against the cool, blue sky. The atmosphere that the
reader is taken to is nearly as extravagant as Gatsby's parties. In contrast, the imagistic style that
Ernest Hemingway incorporates into his literature is much more simplistic, providing the reader
with concise details, allowing them to understand the text. For example, when Santiago was at sea,
he caught a fish and "he had cut six strips [and] he spread them out on the wood of the bow,
wipedhis knife on his trousers, and lifted the carcass of the bonito by the tail and dropped it
overboard" (58 Hemingway). Rather than packing the passage chalk full of adjectives and
descriptions, Hemingway presents the reader with just enough information for an atmosphere to be
created from the text. This enables the reader to experience the smell of the freshly carved and
gutted bonito, to feel the smooth carcass of the fish, and taste the drying strips of fish on the

Food Writing Is An Industry Unto Itself
Food writing is an industry unto itself. The book shelves bulge with myriad recipe and preparation
instruction titles in addition to food essays, food memoirs, food confessionals, food mysteries, food
histories and food investigations. (Let 's not even get started on the diet books.) Put the challenging
new release titled Food Is Culture into the category of food scholarship. Author Massimo Montanari
is a professor of food history at the University of Bologna in Italy. His deceptively small but
surprisingly filling book is the latest entry in the "Arts and Traditions of the Table" series by
Columbia University Press. It is no less than a history of food from the initial application of fire to
the spread of McDonald 's. It is a speedy journey, like sprinting through a smorgasbord. Without
lingering, emphasis is placed upon the Middle Ages, which is Montanari 's era of intellectual
expertise, and particular attention is paid to the Mediterranean beltway, which is Montanari 's
geographic and emotional core. While this book is scholarly in content, it is decidedly casual in its
academic approach. At the risk of stating a generalization, it might be said that it is quite Italian in
style. It is sleek, with no footnotes, no citations and no bibliography. Montanari is nonchalant about
exact references, as in this borrowed quotation: " 'One must beware of thin people, ' Shakespeare
writes somewhere." This is a research attitude worthy of slackers everywhere. And from a professor,

Wine Review Research Paper
How wine reviews should be: Why reviews are educational but satisfying
It is actually fun to read a lot of articles and blogs about different wine reviews. Aside from it being
educational to most of us who would love to know which wine tastes better or which wine is bad for
some, indeed learning will help you achieve in becoming one of the best wine teacher and
enthusiast.
In reality, many wine enthusiasts did not start liking wine when they were still childhood nor a
teenager. Some actually started to like wine when they got aged while some luckily able to love
them when they were still young in twenties. Nevertheless that fact that we still experienced the
taste and knowledge about wines still makes us more grateful to know how such wines ... Show

How a good wine should be reviewed
There are also a lot of things to take note about making a great review on wines. Aside from scoring
it which is very popular for most wine connoisseur, many will be able to know how wines age and
to breathing wines; why there are wines that become better when age while other turn to vinegar;
why wines in need to be decanted and other wine review benefits. Indeed there is a lot better to
know more about wine these days, thanks to these gold reviews.
Why scoring wines should be different
Wine is a known product of human passion and scoring it through its taste alone write a little
description of how wine is to be tasted. A lot of wine bloggers and writers also become passionate in
writing reviews about wine. In order to fully understand and appreciate wine, many of us should
also know who made it and what meaning it truly entails upon making the said wine. A wine
becomes very meaningful when we know some of its history and elements on how it was mixed and
created, making it more enjoyable to taste and build such experience to taste

Craft Beer And The Beer Industry
From 2012 to 2014, the number of craft breweries in America has grown from 2,401 to 3,418,
representing a 42% increase. ("Number of Breweries and Brewpubs in the U.S.") Additionally, while
US overall beer production fell 1.4% in 2013, craft beer production grew by 9.6% and now
represents 7% of the total beer market. (Snider). The brewers association describes a craft brewer as
small, meaning annual production of less than 6 million barrels of beer, independent, meaning less
than 25% of the brewery is owned by non–craft brewers in the alcoholic beverage industry, and
traditional, meaning the majority of beers derive flavor from traditional brewing ingredients and
fermentation and further states that these beers tend to be more expensive than mainstream brews.
("Craft Brewer")
The craft beer industry is rapidly increasing in size and the beers within it tend to be more
expensive, but little academic research exists on the perceived quality of craft versus mainstream
beers. Craft beer is widely seen as generally better than mainstream American beers such as
Budweiser, Coors, and Miller, but no academic research exists to determine how expectations of
differences between craft and mainstream beer based only on being labeled as "craft" can effect
perceived quality and flavor.
People's expectations have widely been shown to influence both flavor experiences and neural
responding. Plassman and others (2008) demonstrated this using wine, by presenting wine to
participants that

The Importance Of Signing Up For A Wine Club
Branding
Aligning a strategic partnership with wine club members and creating excitement and romance in
developing wines can increase brand loyalty. Customers like variety and without it will look for new
wine clubs.
When a winery allows members to pick up wine at the winery it creates entertainment, by offering
exclusive privileges it boosts their egos, and providing the best wines in club offerings is
prestigious. Including tips from the Master Chef or Gardner, facts about wine making, and all the
news from your winery when shipping wines, only adds more value to the club in the eyes of the
club member (Teaff, 2005).
The industry has turned from wine marketing to wine storytelling (Maker, 2015). Associating wine
storytelling with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A winery should decide what to do depending on their brand and what makes sense for them in
creating a memorable experience.
Events are important revenue generators, too. It is a way to bring the local community together and
for the consumer to get to know the farmers and fellow wine club members. The market position
focus for wine clubs is to continue to improve the club by including musical events and films,
starlight suppers, harvest lunches, yoga in the vineyards, winemaker dinners, and family oriented
activities such as a summer vineyard hike.
As the industry changes, wineries offering wine clubs must also change, and always promote the
wine club as something fun to do. Fresh ideas and changes to wine will ensure the club keeps up
with consumer tastes, competitive pricing, and sustainable farming practices. As more consumers
formulate ideas based on website information in making decisions to visit a winery on an upcoming
vacation, a well–written website is important. Most wine club members are tourists with only about
20% being "day trippers" (Penn, pg. 73). Therefore, use good strategy when developing a website
and hire professionals (Williamson, 2014). Furthermore, wine club members enjoy wine and make it
almost a hobby. For some collecting wine is a "cultural and educational experience" (Williamson,
2014). Providing what a wine club member needs and desires, can deliver greater commitment and
interest to the wine, leading to purchases

Masculinity In The Gas Room-Personal Narrative

  • 1. Masculinity In The Gas Room-Personal Narrative A couple of weeks ago I was introduced to a character at a gas station whom I only thought lived between the pages of a graphic novel. However, before this diatribe about masculinity takes a turn for the depressed and uninspired, there is an important detail I left out of my first story. Before I reveal it to you, let's go back to what he was doing before he arrived awkwardly lost at the gas station. The night before had brought a starless night with rain, but daybreak cracked through on a promising Saturday morning. The sky awoke with clouds dissipating. Hues of indigo beckoned the light between the black sky and the blue. Fog clung to the rolling hills while the varnished sun lit up the fields. In the distance, a faint sound rumbled over the quiet wisps still hanging in the air. A young buck, standing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Blueberry and bitter chocolate spar on the nose, backed by secondary notes of Asian spices with a thread of earthy leather underneath it all. This one opens up slowly and is actually better on day two. Balanced on the palate, with seamless tannins, hinting at an elegance that never quite fully develops. I'm sure with a slight shift in paradigm, one could read this as a description of a man. One of my favorite aspects of wine tasting, apart from the tasting, is the art of the wine description. They are so wonderfully poetic and ridiculously fun literarily speaking. To evaluate a man in such a fashion holds even more hilarious entertaining potential. In keeping with this comparison, it is said that vines challenged by drought like conditions will work harder to reach through the soil for moisture. The process produces a grape with a higher sugar content. There are many other factors that play into the formation of a good vintage. The life of a man is eerily similar. A man who has worked by the sweat of his brow later releases a mature sweetness that robustly captures all the tannins, spices, and earthy overtones which define his ... • 9. `` Hyperesthesia, Or, The Sensual Logic Of Late Capitalism `` Often times, our senses can trigger memories that are hidden in the crevices throughout our brain. The smell of fresh linen can activate a childhood memory of playing in the backyard while a parent hangs wet laundry on a clothesline. The taste of gingerbread ice–cream can awaken a memory of visiting grandma's house. The sight of purple daisies can arouse a memory of attending a wedding decorated with purple daisies. Senses stimulate our memories because according to cultural anthropologist Constance Classen, "senses themselves may each be linked with different trains of associations" (Classen 1997: 401). Because of this link, senses and memories have an interwoven relationship. Furthermore, some consumer capitalists have exploited this interrelationship to profit themselves. In David Howes' article, "HYPERESTHESIA, or, The Sensual Logic of Late Capitalism," Howes explains how capitalists today are focusing on multisensory marketing to fully evoke a sensual experience when one walks into a store or passes by a product (Howes 2005: 298) . This way, the shopper will be more alert and therefore, be more inclined to purchase goods. This phenomenon is known as hyperesthesia, which is the heightened experience of senses. This experience fully engulfs one's sight, smell, hearing, taste, or touch, which can cause an overwhelming yet unforgettable sensation. Some critics have viewed this hypersensuality as an excessive notion to seduce consumers into purchasing goods; however others ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Cork’d: Building a Social Network for Wine Lovers Problem Statement Cork'd is a New York based wine social network. The site has been very successful; however, it is at a point where it is encountering financial distress. Cork'd's start–up funds are diminishing and they are shorthanded on developers. The company is confronted with two major alternatives (1) Stay with their current business model or (2) Create a different business model in order to not only stay on business but to compete and regain the members both individuals and wineries that they have lost to their competitors. Situation Analysis Since Cork'd inception in February 2006, the company was designed for and by wine lovers. Time showed that this industry had such a demand that needed more dedication and that is when ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Major Strategic Alternatives There are two major alternatives, which may be considered by Cork'd: 1. Current model is good but execution is weak 2. Different model is needed for generating revenues Staying with the current model This alternative would imply that only one source of income would be utilized. Therefore, their major marketing campaign would have to be concentrated on aggregate value to wineries through the website. However, Cork'd is behind building the website, which only indicates that not enough time is dedicated to the same. Emphasis would need to be put in how to provide better value to both wineries as well as users. Adopting another business model This alternative would imply a consideration to the following models: – Advertising – User fees – Selling wine (becoming an online distributor to member wineries or commissions from various online distributors linked from the site) The more advertisement, the more exposure the company will have. Even though, Gary mentions the website when he is invited to different shows; additional advertisement campaigns could be launched, such as advertisements on the website (wine related, i.e. wine accessories). At the same time Cork'd is trying to make a decision, Cellartracker.com, a competitor is charging an user fee according to the amount of wines and comments each user has. That is a great idea. Cork'd needs to keep in mind

  • 23. Visit To Temecula, California I chose Temecula, California because I have always dreamed to visit Temecula. Temecula, California, a Large city in the southwestern region of the state, is known for skating, wineries, and shopping. Temecula also has a lot of historical sites to visit. This would be an educational and fun trip. There is many historical sites in Temecula, California for instance Old Town Temecula, Peltzer farm, Temecula berry company, and Old Town Temecula jail you know the little things that Temecula is known for. These sites are all small individual historic structures, but they're what makes up Temecula. Temecula is a large city of 106,780 people. That is a lot bigger than what I am use to, Ste.Genevieve, Missouri there is only 4,405 people. That is not a lot compared to Temecula California. This city has been around since 1859. In Temecula there is many tours you can take. Especially tours of wineries. They have other tours like the scuba center, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Also I figured out that there was more to do than to just go to the skatepark and to go shopping and get a new skateboard. I notice that there is so much more than I even thought of. Going to Temecula, California would not only be an amazing vacation, but it is an opportunity to try new things and to learn new things as well. Old Town Temecula is going to blow your mind. So in conclusion I would give temecula a 4 out of 5 star rating. This is more of a family city. Temecula will be my future destination. Hopefully your families could enjoy this at some ... I asked, "What do you like about the tour?" "I thought it was fascinating, how the wines are made." When it was our turn to choose a wine Linda selected a Merlot. She tells me, "I like this wine; it has a medium body, the flavor of currants, blackberries, and spice, along with a chocolate–toffee finish." "That sounds really good." Next, was the 2011 Simpatica Riesling, with its citrus and honeysuckle aroma. Together, we say, "That would be a great wine to pair with a lobster dinner." Then chuckle we both had the same thought. It may be physical or psychological. It can be a metaphor to show the passion that is proportionate to the loss or gain, happiness or misery, peace or war. When our judgment is clouded by too much passion or excessive love, there is a tendency to be blinded to the limitless pitfalls (Bady, 2016). Blindness in a figurative sense can be seen as a split between ignorance and concealment. Literarily, it can be seen in the following phrases–Blind ignorance (lacking knowledge), blind stupor (lacking awareness), blind prejudice (lacking a critical or questioning attitude), blind taste test (tasting without looking), blind presentation (lacking preparation or information) (Paterson, 2014). Blindness not only means the lack of vision but also the lack of intellectual perception. In our everyday life it can cost a lot. What, then, happens to the people who support the brand with market research or other brand– building activities? They are vulnerable to the organizations new cost culture. 2. Proliferation Of Competitors New, vigorous competitors come from a variety of sources. A host of food categories have watched Weight Watchers and Healthy Choice enter their markets through brand extension strategies. In the snack category, Frito–Lay has seen regional brands expand and Budweiser 's Eagle brand break out of its niche to become a major competitor. New product forms that provide real alternatives for the customer have encroached the soft drink market, bottled water, carbonated water, fruit–based drinks, and "new age" drinks, among others. Additional competitors not only contribute to price pressure and brand complexity, but also make it much harder to gain and hold a position. They leave fewer holes in the market to exploit and fewer implementation vehicles to own. Each brand tends to be positioned more narrowly, the target markets become smaller, and the non–target market becomes larger. Efforts to market to a broad segment thus become more difficult in the face of the complex 'brandscape' Further, some new or desperate competitors may be motivated to take risks or attempt unusual approaches. The result can be destabilization of the competitive dynamics. There is also an enhanced motivation to copy anything that is successful, in part because the risks of ... • 64. College Essay About Wine I'm fascinated with wine, and I want to know all I can about wine: how it's made, and how the industry works. I daydream about working long hard days on a vineyard, I tear up with happiness while watching documentaries and reading books and articles about wine, and I always find myself thoroughly investigating wine labels. Wine is interesting to me because so many components go into the process of making it. Agriculture, science, communication, physical labor. It's thrilling, social, personal, artistic and a learning process that never ends. When I first started getting interested in the wine industry, and looking into possible careers, I knew it was where I wanted to be and I felt more excited about my future than I ever had before. He told us how he went into the program thinking he wanted to do vineyard work but then found himself more attracted to the winery side of the industry which he didn't expect. I also have a family friend who opened a winery in Seattle a few years ago, and then in 2012 purchased a vineyard in Prosser, Washington where he now lives and works. We visited the vineyard after our stay in Walla Walla and I felt so at home walking through the vines. I have big ambitions and ideas of where I want to take my career but I know that could all change and I'm open to that and excited to figure out where I fit best by trying it all. In contrast, poor communication skills can have a negative impact on all aspects of a person's life. If I do not have any difficulty to communicate with some people (the flow of the conversation is effortless and natural and I appreciate sharing thoughts and ideas with them), communication with others can become a struggle and asks me a lot of effort to understand what the other person thinks or is trying to say. Here again, this behaviour irritated me, for two reasons. Firstly, because I thought the choice of the interview should have been discussed by the entire team, and secondly and mostly because Xin Yi had been listened to by neither Karim nor the team. And at that point, I began to have the bias that as women what we could say was not considered. It provided utility bills assistance, career programs, and personal growth workshops to the less fortunate people in the Hampton Roads community. • 88. Compare And Contrast The Great Gatsby By Ernest Hemingway Nothing is more powerful than the emotions which inevitably accompany the sensory descriptors that people experience day in and day out. Due to this, many writers incorporate descriptive writing meant to harness precise images that specifically target sensory–oriented imagery in an attempt to force the reader to better connect to the literature. It also enables the reader to imagine a unique atmosphere. As one of Time Magazine's All–Time 100 novels, The Great Gatsby, by F. Scott Fitzgerald, and the well–known novel The Old Man and the Sea, by Ernest Hemingway, both utilize an imagistic writing style throughout. While both authors include the enticing aspects of imagistic writing, both portray the style in a different manner. This results in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Despite this similarity, they differ slightly in the application of this style of writing. In the novel, The Great Gatsby, when Nick and Gatsby were talking at one of Gatsby's extravagant parties, " [their] eyes lifted over the rose–beds and the hot lawn and the weedy refuse of the dog–days alongshore. Slowly the white wings of the boat moved against the blue cool limit of the sky. Ahead lay the scalloped ocean and the abounding blessed isles" (118 Fitzgerald). As F. Scott Fitzgerald wrote this novel, he included endless descriptions that ensured that the reader would be able to engage with the text. The extremely descriptive imagistic writing enables the reader to relate to the text by being able to not only envision the scene, but also feel the movement of the boat as it swayed with the ocean and hear the white wings beating against the cool, blue sky. The atmosphere that the reader is taken to is nearly as extravagant as Gatsby's parties. In contrast, the imagistic style that Ernest Hemingway incorporates into his literature is much more simplistic, providing the reader with concise details, allowing them to understand the text. For example, when Santiago was at sea, he caught a fish and "he had cut six strips [and] he spread them out on the wood of the bow, wipedhis knife on his trousers, and lifted the carcass of the bonito by the tail and dropped it overboard" (58 Hemingway). Rather than packing the passage chalk full of adjectives and descriptions, Hemingway presents the reader with just enough information for an atmosphere to be created from the text. This enables the reader to experience the smell of the freshly carved and gutted bonito, to feel the smooth carcass of the fish, and taste the drying strips of fish on the ... The book shelves bulge with myriad recipe and preparation instruction titles in addition to food essays, food memoirs, food confessionals, food mysteries, food histories and food investigations. (Let 's not even get started on the diet books.) Put the challenging new release titled Food Is Culture into the category of food scholarship. Author Massimo Montanari is a professor of food history at the University of Bologna in Italy. His deceptively small but surprisingly filling book is the latest entry in the "Arts and Traditions of the Table" series by Columbia University Press. It is no less than a history of food from the initial application of fire to the spread of McDonald 's. It is a speedy journey, like sprinting through a smorgasbord. Without lingering, emphasis is placed upon the Middle Ages, which is Montanari 's era of intellectual expertise, and particular attention is paid to the Mediterranean beltway, which is Montanari 's geographic and emotional core. While this book is scholarly in content, it is decidedly casual in its academic approach. At the risk of stating a generalization, it might be said that it is quite Italian in style. It is sleek, with no footnotes, no citations and no bibliography. Montanari is nonchalant about exact references, as in this borrowed quotation: " 'One must beware of thin people, ' Shakespeare writes somewhere." This is a research attitude worthy of slackers everywhere. And from a professor, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

("Number of Breweries and Brewpubs in the U.S.") Additionally, while US overall beer production fell 1.4% in 2013, craft beer production grew by 9.6% and now represents 7% of the total beer market. (Snider). The brewers association describes a craft brewer as small, meaning annual production of less than 6 million barrels of beer, independent, meaning less than 25% of the brewery is owned by non–craft brewers in the alcoholic beverage industry, and traditional, meaning the majority of beers derive flavor from traditional brewing ingredients and fermentation and further states that these beers tend to be more expensive than mainstream brews. ("Craft Brewer") The craft beer industry is rapidly increasing in size and the beers within it tend to be more expensive, but little academic research exists on the perceived quality of craft versus mainstream beers. Craft beer is widely seen as generally better than mainstream American beers such as Budweiser, Coors, and Miller, but no academic research exists to determine how expectations of differences between craft and mainstream beer based only on being labeled as "craft" can effect perceived quality and flavor. People's expectations have widely been shown to influence both flavor experiences and neural responding. A winery should decide what to do depending on their brand and what makes sense for them in creating a memorable experience. Events are important revenue generators, too. It is a way to bring the local community together and for the consumer to get to know the farmers and fellow wine club members. The market position focus for wine clubs is to continue to improve the club by including musical events and films, starlight suppers, harvest lunches, yoga in the vineyards, winemaker dinners, and family oriented activities such as a summer vineyard hike. As the industry changes, wineries offering wine clubs must also change, and always promote the wine club as something fun to do. Fresh ideas and changes to wine will ensure the club keeps up with consumer tastes, competitive pricing, and sustainable farming practices.
