Staff Nco Essay
This essay will explain the ways a staff NCO can anticipate the outcome of current operations to
develop concepts for follow–on missions. It is critical in today's Army that the staff NCO is able to
effectively brief his or her commander on potential courses of action for current operations. Before a
staff NCO is able to create courses of action against a potential threat, he or she must be able to
anticipate the results on the battlefield. To win wars, commanders must be comprehensively
informed and make decisions quickly. The commander relies on staff officers and NCOs to assist
with the planning and developing of courses of action in regards to making these decisions. This
essay will outline what is needed for forecasting the outcome of current operations to assist in
creating concepts for future missions.
How a Staff NCO Anticipate the Outcome of Current Operations to Develop Concepts for Follow–
on Missions
A staff NCO may anticipate the outcome of current operations by understanding the concept of
operations as a whole and by having several key traits that assist when working with commanders
and other staff members. With this understanding and these key traits, a staff NCO will be a
successful contributing member of a team.

An Analysis Of Jimmy Cross, 'Characters InThe Things They...
The short story, "The Things They Carried" written by Tim O'Brien, follows a Lieutenant named
Jimmy Cross and his men. In the literary work, Tim O'Brien informs the reader not only of the
physical objects the men carry but also the intangibles. This includes guilt and fear, while others are
specific physical objects, including matches, morphine, M–16 rifles. An American solider by the
name of Ted Lavender is killed by a Vietnamese sniper, and his commanding officer, Jimmy Cross,
feels personally responsible for the death of his grunt. He feels convicted because he was distracted
by a memory of home and an unfulfilled romance. Tim O'Brien develops the character of Lieutenant
Jimmy Cross in his literary work through his actions, his thoughts, and his words in order to change
his perspective to better serve his men.
Throughout the short story, Lieutenant Jimmy Cross's actions change from being a lenient officer
overlooking drug usage and waste of ammunition, to an officer with high expectations and strict
demands from his soldiers. This is done when he puts his attention towards a woman at home by the
name of Martha. For example, Lieutenant Cross was in a dream like state, when it came to Martha
and he hoped to do all these things with her. He had hoped to kiss her, caress her body, and make
love to her. At that point a soldier named Ted Lavender returned from the bathroom and was shot in
the head by a Vietnamese sniper killing him. Jimmy Cross blames himself for the death of

Classical Elements Of The Military Essay
Classical elements of our military are organizational structure, principles of organizational reward,
the machine metaphor, and the theory of bureaucracy. Many theories of management have military
backgrounds that date back to the beginning of history to Alexander the Great, Julius Caesar, and
Napoleon. All of these leaders became successful through their efficiency to lead, line of command,
unity, and division of work. The United States Military is divided into five branches of service. The
Army is the the oldest branch of the military, and focuses on defending the country and is the main
fighting force of the military. The Air Force works with the Army and is in charge of all of the
satellites and nuclear missiles. The Navy ensures equal freedom in the oceans around the world, and
protects the interests of our nation to be free. Marine Corps are the first ones to battle, and are
responsible for delivering tasks on ground, sea, and in the air. The Coast Guard is responsible for
boating safety and rescue, law enforcement, and controlling illegal immigration (Hewes 2005).
These are the building blocks behind the reason why our military is so successful and powerful. In
1775, before our nation was established as a Country, colonists were organized into miscellaneous
militias with no distinct structure or organization of a unified hierarchy. George Washington
recognized the missing piece to the puzzle, and how the Continental Army would conquer and win
the Revolutionary War.

Argumentative Essay On Excessive Screen Time
Lately, the issue of excessive screen time is becoming increasingly important in pediatrics, and it
has become a major risk factor for many chronic conditions such as vision impairment, obesity, and
altercations to social behavior. While many parents realize that excessive screen time is harmful,
children are still spending eight to ten hours on their electronic devices. Not many parents realize
that proper regulation is also needed to keep their child safe from health risks. According to the
National Heart, Blood and Lung Institute, 28 percent of parents set TV–watching rules, 30 percent
set rules about video game use, and 36 percent of parents set rules about computer use ("Reduce
Screen Time", 2013). This is a problem because 60 percent of children are constantly stumbling
upon explicit content every year, and their behavior shifts more negatively and aggressively
(Lunsford, 510). I believe that too much screen time can pose much harm to a child's health and
well–being. If we don't find ways to limit excessive screen time than children will face many
consequences that will ultimately harm them as they grow older.
Screen time is any time spent using an electronic device such as a computer, T.V, phone, or video
game console. Many statistics have shown that an average adult spends nearly eight hours of screen
time a day while children spend eight to ten hours a day (Lunsford, 513). Comparing the two pieces
of data, children spend more time on electronics than many adults do,

Fatigue: A Case Study
Fatigue is a growing concern for law enforcement agencies, especially when it comes to officers that
work second jobs (Doerner, 2012). Another concern would be officers using their sick time to work
a second job, thus causing staffing issues for the agency (Doerner, 2012). Depending on the type of
secondary employment, there could also be a conflict of interest further concerning the law
enforcement agency (Doerner, 2012).
Some agencies have policies that are in place to prevent issues with officer's primary jobs. These
policies include being fully qualified, completed any probation period, not under investigation, hour
restrictions, equipment use (including service handgun), and not working in a capacity that could
cause a conflict of

Civil War Narrative Essay
Inside the camouflaged tent, four men stood around a large table. The only illumination coming
from an overhead lamp shining down on a map covered with red, green and grey blocks. Listening
intently to the headsets they each wore they would occasionally reach out with thin poles they each
held and move one or more of the green and red blocks, maneuvering them around the larger grey
blocks that indicated one of the nearby city's buildings.
Striding into the tent a young officer glanced over the map, swore and strode back out, barking
orders into the heavy downpour to the assembled troops. After a few moments of gentle silence, the
officer re–entered the tent, this time with several other officers in tow.

his back and arm, onto the map and as he began to lose consciousness and stopped hearing as two
soldiers busted into the tents to see the horror. The officer spat out his last words telling the soldiers
to "watch their backs" as he faded away. A few days later the military had stopped the virus and

UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS INTELLIGENCE OFFICER
The United States Marine Corps is looking for a "Few Good Men" for their Officer Corps. There are
a few different ways to achieve the rank of Second Lieutenant. Some officers go straight from
college to a recruiter, and others join as an enlisted Marine and apply for an officer rank later in their
career. I am applying for a commission from the enlisted ranks. I have found that enlisted to officer
programs have many requirements and can be somewhat confusing, but the goal of making a move
from enlisted to officer can be accomplished as long as I are willing to put forth the effort to achieve
that goal.

Once OCS is completed, I will be transferred to The Basic School for field training. Officer
Candidate School is ten weeks long and The Basic School is six months long (Marine Corps
University). All Marine Officers must attend these two schools. During field training at The Basic
School, I will receive my military occupational specialty as an intelligence officer.
As a new intelligence officer, I will be required to receive formal education through various
intelligence schools. The first step in my intelligence training will be approached at the Navy and
Marine Corps Intelligence Training Center. At this school I will receive intelligence schooling in
fundamentals, analysis, and interpretation (The Navy and Marine Corps Intelligence Training
Center). I will then be transferred to Goodfellow Air Force Base for training within Signals
intelligence, imagery intelligence, or human intelligence.
Upon completion of the my bachelor's degree, acceptance through the ECP, Officer Candidate
School, The Basic School, Initial Intelligence Training, and Military Occupational Specialty
Intelligence Training, I will receive orders back to the Fleet Marine Forces. The move from the
enlisted ranks to the officer ranks may be very confusing, but this goal can be accomplished as long
as I stay focused and move one step at a time.

Essay On The Journey Chapter 1
The hangar was alive with activity and tense with expectation as Tensai peered through the pilot's
access hatch, then as he crossed the threshold, he paused for a second, inhaling deeply and revelling
in the pungent, heavy odour of burnt high–octane fuel and spilt oil. To him, this was the essence of
power. Real authority. Not the kind lorded over by Kentali's political masters.
As he thought, his gaze reached out across the huge hangar deck, its rich history marked by deep
cuts and rainbowed spots of warped steel, and he said a silent remembrance for those less fortunate
souls whose journey was already complete.
Suddenly he noticed his team assembling before him. They looked on with interest, their faces alight
with enthusiasm. Tensai ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The malignancy would fester if left unchecked. It was something he could ill afford.
"The last time The Hub became active, it destroyed Kentali vessels on sight. This corroded pile of
junk should allow us safe passage. We hope."
The doubtful glances they cast between them made him smile, but he forced it away before pressing
ahead. "A single vessel of unclear design has accessed our target. Their forces are unknown, but
from the size of the ship, they are fewer than fifty strong."
The mission objective held their focus once more and Tensai's Second Officer, Cahal Hannan lifted
his left hand to speak.
"Will Umonakalisi be there? Aboard The Hub, sir? Not the planet."
The pertinent question was expected, his older brother perished in the Blood Sands, one of the many
casualties still unburied and unavenged.
"No. We do not believe so. Indications are that the ship did not visit Arthe. Therefore, we expect The
Destroyer, Umonakalisi remains on the surface."
Hannan lowered his gaze, and his head dropped in resignation as his massive frame slumped
forwards, he was a bear of a man and far stronger than Tensai, but lacking in speed and agility. A
fact he was forever thankful for when they sparred.
"We are not expecting resistance on our approach to The Hub, so our training will focus on small
arms, confined space combat. That is why Commander Sankath selected us. Any further questions?"
His team remained silent.
"Good. Then let's get this ship

A Short Story : A Story Of A Story
It was a summer day in July, the sun was shining bright and you could see the heat waves in the air.
My friends Caleb, Javon, and I were heading to the mall. We were there for five minutes when we
heard someone yell "Stop!" We turned and saw it was an officer, before we knew it we were all
running. Caleb was in front with me and Javon trailing. I turned to look back at the officer he was
overweight and his white uniform was already sticking to his body due to him sweating. We turned a
corner and went inside a bathroom. We all looked at each other and started laughing. "Why'd you
run?" I asked Caleb
"I don't know." Caleb said we then left the bathroom and were going to leave but Javon wanted to
buy shoes from Footlocker first. I thought to myself we should leave but we went anyway. Javon
bought his shoes and once we left the store the officer who chased us earlier was with two other
officers. The new officers weren't overweight like the first one. One was tall and lean the other was
short and muscular. They saw us and we were off again. While we were running I yelled out "We
should split up and meet back up where we parked." They agreed and we went our different ways.
The tall officer was chasing me as I ran outside. He was slower than me so I put some distance
between us. I ducked under a car while I saw the officer run by after about five minutes I saw the
officer go back inside the mall. I made my way to the car and Caleb and Javon weren't there. I sat in

Iago's Use Of The Word Officer In Othello
An officer as defined by the Merriam– Webster dictionary is "one who holds an office of authority
or command," but in Shakespeare's Othello, the word officer becomes characterized with a
connotation of trustworthiness and friendship. Othello almost exclusively uses this word as a way of
conveying his trust for the person he's referring to, showing his naivety in regards to his judgment.
Shakespeare's use of the word officer in Othello to convey trust and friendship helps to illustrate that
trust tends to be put in the wrong place when one's judgment is clouded by emotion. From the very
start of the play, Iago's ill intent for Othello is illustrated very clearly. In act I scene I, in a
conversation with Roderigo, Iago mocks Othello for his decision to place Michael Cassio as his
lieutenant over Iago, "And in conclusion, Nonsuits my mediators. For ' Certes,' says he, ... Show

In act II, scene iii, Othello tells Iago "I know, Iago, Thy honesty and love doth mince this matter
making it light to Cassio. Cassio, I love thee But never more be officer of mine. Look if my gentle
love be not raised up! I'll make thee an example." This quote from Othello is ironic because he truly
believe Iago is trying to make Cassio look better to Othello so that Othello will have mercy on him,
when in reality Iago's intentions are the complete opposite. The irony of this quote is also found in
Othello's dismissal of Cassio from not only his position as lieutenant, but also his position as one of
Othello's most trusted men. Othello begins to find a confidant in Iago in this scene and genuinely
believes that Iago is honest with him, and makes Iago a source of comfort for himself. In this scene
Othello is irate that Cassio has disgraced his trust and his position, and in his anger, dismisses
Cassio while simultaneously promoting Iago to a higher rank in terms of

Customs and Curtiousies
CUSTOMS & COURTIOUSY
Marine customs are simply desirable courses of action sanctioned by tradition and usage. In the
Marine Corps, practically every custom has grown out of the manner in which Marines of the past
conducted themselves. Many Marine customs have been incorporated into regulations in order to
standardize conduct throughout the Corps, but some of them cannot be found in written directives.
Knowing and observing these customs, both written and unwritten, is important to each Marine
because it keeps him mindful of the heritage and traditions of his Corps, and of his duty to uphold
them. In addition, it makes him feel that he is a part of the team and helps to create the strong bond

The celebration involves the reading of an excerpt from the Marine Corps Manual and a birthday
message from the Commandant; the cutting of a birthday cake by the commanding officer; and the
presentation of the first and second pieces of cake to the oldest and youngest Marines present.
Recently, the ceremony for the observance of the Marine Corps Birthday by large posts and stations
has been incorporated into written directives.
Nautical Terms. Many of the Marine Corps customs are derived from the many years of service
afloat. Even ashore Marines customarily use nautical terms. Floors are "decks," walls are
"bulkheads," ceilings, "overheads," corridors, "passageways." The order "Gangway!" is used to clear
the way for an officer ashore, just as it is afloat. Among other terms in common usage are: "two–
block" –to tighten or center (as a necktie); "square–away" – to correctly arrange articles or to take in
hand and direct an individual;" "head" – a bathroom; "scuttle–but" –a drinking fountain, also an
unconfirmed rumor.
In the Marine Corps, the nautical expression "Aye, Aye, Sir" is used when acknowledging a verbal
order. "Yes, Sir" and "No, Sir" are used in answer to direct questions. "Aye, Aye, Sir" is not used in
answer to questions as this expression is reserved solely for

Comparing Rocking-Horse Winner, Prussian Officer, and...
Differences in Rocking–Horse Winner, Prussian Officer, and Second Best
Works by the same author often show the repeated use of certain words, images, or plots. In five
short stories by the author, D.H. Lawrence, differences between social classes are the basis for
conflict and provide the foundation for taboo relationships. These five stories are "The Rocking–
Horse Winner," "The Prussian Officer," "Second Best," "The White Stocking," and "The Daughters
of the Vicar." The inclusion of the motif of class differences in these particular works often leads to
acts of violence or tragedy as the outcome.

Consequently, more violence also arises. The officer is, "a Prussian aristocrat, haughty and
overbearing. Having made too many gambling debts . . . he remained an infantry captain"(2). The
officer is furious at the youth and vigor of his servant, he often catches himself admiring the "young,
brown, shapely peasant's hand"(3) or "the strong, easy young figure, the fine eyebrows, the thick
black hair" (5). The class difference is accentuated by the officer's cruelty towards his young charge:
he is forced to stay indoors doing mindless tasks instead of spending a few meager minutes with his
girlfriend, he is violently kicked behind the legs for failing to answer a question quickly enough, he
is slapped in the face with the end of a belt, and he is struck with a heavy military glove in the same
way. The officer is clearly jealous of the freedom of the peasantry, and indicates this with his
thoughts of hatred and violent actions as well as words. The servant is tortured simply for who he is,
not for what he has done: he is lower than the officer and, therefore, faced with less constraint and
social pressures. "The Captain could not regain his neutrality of feeling towards his orderly. Nor
could he leave the man alone" (4). The torture continues until the two are finally placed on the same
level during a climactic scene of violence and death. The orderly's murder of the officer is a man to

Analysis Of 12 OClock High
The movie 12 O'clock High was filmed and produced in 1949 directly after World War Two. This
was a critical moment in American history simply because this was the first time that America was
the greatest power globally. Due to this rise in international responsibility from power, patriotism
soared in the United States. Culturally films like 12 O'clock High were produced highlighting
important roles that were played in the defeat of the Axis powers during World War Two. On a more
extensive note, the film displays what leadership influence tactics can be used to drastically turn a
unit around during a time of war. This unit, part of the American Army Air Force, is known as the
918th Bomber Group located in England, during the year of 1942. At the beginning of the film, Col.
Davenport was the Air Commanding Officer with Lt. Col. Gately as the Air Executive Officer.
However, General Savage had to step in and relieve Col. Davenport of command after several major
battle losses cause morale to fall to an all–time low. Additionally, Lt. Col. Gately is also relieved of
command as Air Executive Officer and placed as an aircraft commander due to his inability to fly
missions and be a part of the "team effort". This is the major turning point in the movie as from this
point forward the 918th Bomber Group eventually becomes a brutal fighting force with the help
Major Stovall who is the administrator for the Air Commanding Officer. This paper will discuss the

Contemporary Criminal Justice Issues
In 2011, Tanisha Ross–Paige, a former St. Louis police officer, filed a lawsuit against her former
supervisor (Bigelow, 2014). Among other things, she claimed that Sergeant Steven Gori created and
posted a mock "wanted" poster of Ross–Paige for having the "baddest body in St. Louis". He also
asked her to take off her bullet proof vest so he could, "See what she was working with". She filed a
complaint but afterwards Gori and a lieutenant put her on bad shifts, wrote different reviews for her
than that of other officers, and denied her requests for time off. An original claim for racial
discrimination was thrown out by the court; however, the city of St. Louis settled the lawsuit for
$7.5 million. It may ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

harassment. Inmates and others held in custody, for example, have the right to sue for sexual

which is governed by the city of El Paso, Texas. The policy is included in the City of El Paso
Employee Handbook which is accessible online. It is a concise policy that defines sexual
harassment, gives examples, and explains consequences. It also includes procedures for reporting
violations. The policy appears to apply only to city employees and clearly states that harassment and

Army Officers Learn From The Military Decision Making Process
C171 Argumentative Essay Army officers learn from the onset of their careers the important role
they play as problem solvers. The various military institutions tasked with providing education to
the officer corps spend vast amounts of time teaching and reinforcing the Army Problem Solving
Process. With that being said, Army officers at all ranks would be better served if they were able to
incorporate the eight elements of thought as defined by Drs. Paul & Elder into the military decision–
making process. Although encompassed within the Army problem solving process, officers often fail
to identify and incorporate the tenets of thought when making decisions resulting in potentially
adverse consequences. The following examples will highlight ... Show more content on

When Army leaders identified the headgear as a problem, they failed to articulate their reasoning
and ultimate objectives behind the transition, thereby, creating confusion amongst the troops. The
failures to take into account other points of view, especially from units to which the beret was an
exclusive item, made the public relations campaign a nightmare. Army leaders improperly assumed
the beret switch would be minimally disruptive and generally accepted. To the contrary, displeased
Soldiers from units like the Army Rangers marched from Fort Benning, Georgia to the U.S. Capital
to voice their displeasure over the issue. From a practical standpoint, many Soldiers found the beret
switch ill conceived. In order to don the beret, it generally required the Soldier to have their hands
free so that they could properly place and shape the beret onto their head. It also provided no
protection from the elements like the patrol cap offered and cost millions of extra dollars to field.
The implications of this decision would have been obvious had they been considered during the
Problem Solving Process. In response to a scathing survey commissioned years later by Sergeant
Major of the Army, Raymond Chandler, the Army reversed course and reverted back to the patrol
cap. Had the proper questions been considered from the beginning and all relevant facts been

The Queensland Police Service ( Gre ) Incident Command...
The Queensland Police Service (QPS) Incident Command System (ICS) was raised as a project in
2001 with the aim of establishing a Command system which could be used for any type of incident
or event. Extensive research was conducted into ICS models throughout Australia and overseas. The
QPS ICS was finally adapted from the North American ICS model which allows a flexible approach
to incident response with effectiveness and efficiency. The QPS ICS was then adopted into Section
1.12 of the QPS Operational Procedures Manual (OPM 2014). The QPS ICS takes a formal
approach by gathering intelligence, planning a response and deploying the available resources to
achieve a specific result (QPS2013a).
The QPS ICS model is based on five interlocking functional roles. These roles are Command,
Operations, Planning, Intelligence and Administration and Logistics. Depending on the size and
nature of the incident the five roles can be carried out by a single officer or an incident management
team with a Police Forward Commander (PFC) who will have overall supervision. (QPS2013a). The
Command role will be undertaken by the first officer attending the incident who will assume the role
of Police Forward Commander (PFC) (OPM 1.12.3) who will remain in this role until the incident is
resolved or command responsibility is transferred, usually to a more senior officer (QPS2013a). The
PFC will obtain and maintain situational awareness, identify and take responsibility for establishing

The Use Of Unreasonable Force And The Fourth Amendment
USE OF TASER, IN PROBE AND PRONG MODE, AND CAROTID HOLD AGAINST MR.
CORDOVA
The use of unreasonable force is constitutionally excessive and violates the Fourth Amendment.
Graham v. Connor, 490 U.S. 386, 394–96 (1989). There is no per se rule in determining whether an
officer's actions are reasonable under the Fourth Amendment. Scott, 550 U.S. at 383. The courts
typically balance "the nature and quality of the intrusion on the individual's Fourth Amendment
interests against countervailing governmental interests at stake." Bryan v. MacPherson, 630 F.3d
805, 823 (9th Cir. 2010) (quoting Tennessee v. Garner, 471 U.S. 1, 8 (1985)). However, courts,
considering the totality of circumstances, balance the following factors to determine if an officer
used force is unreasonable: (1) the severity of the crime at issue, (2) whether the suspect posed an
immediate threat to the safety of the officers or others, and (3) whether the suspect was actively
resisting arrest or attempting to evade arrest by flight. Graham, 490 U.S. at 396. Because force can
be unreasonable even without physical blows or injuries, the analysis under Graham allows the court
to determine objectively the amount of force necessary in a particular situation. MacPherson, 630
F.3d at 826.
A. Officer Woodward use of Taser in Probe Mode
The Court in Bryan v. MacPherson stated that when the officer used the Taser with the probes,
aluminum darts tipped with stainless tell barbs connected to the Taser insulated wires, toward the
target at a rate of over 160 feet per second. MacPherson, 630 F.3d at 824. The Court noted that once
a person is struck, the Taser delivers a 1200–volt into the individual's muscles, making the impact
powerful. Id. at 824. The electrical impulse instantly overrides the victim's central nervous system
paralyzing the muscles throughout the body, rendering the target limp and helpless making the
person experience excruciating pain that radiates throughout the body. Id.; see Draper v. Reynolds,
369 F.3d 1270, 1273 (11th Cir. 2004); see also Lewis v. Downey, 581 F.3d 467, 475 (7th Cir. 2009).
Although the uses of Tasers by law enforcement can help defuse a dangerous situation, the force

To Fail is to Succeed
Chloe, a former US Army officer and graduate of the Georgia Military College, reminisced with me
when she was going through officer training. She informed me of a general census that is
perpetuated within the army; women don't belong in the military. Chloe's instructors would
specifically target her and other female cadets. She received tremendous amounts of hazing from
some of her so called male teammates. She was kicked in the face and spat on but despite all the
challenges Chloe overcame them and was commissioned as a second lieutenant. Chloe's story made
me really wonder what keeps people motivated throughout life and why some people give up on
their dreams. How do we know when we should throw in the towel? Why do we decide to just stop
pursuing our goals? I found myself lost in thought reflecting upon my own life and goals; How do
you overcome past failures? I have always had a fear of failure that has held me back from reaching
my potential; however, after facing many life challenges I have established a philosophy that I can
only get what I want out of life by taking a chance, win or lose.
In "Showing Up", Angela Duckworth argues that the reason why people abandon their dreams and
continue to fail is because they lack grit; the steadfast resolve and determination to accomplish one's
goals. Duckworth believes that it is through the grit attribute, not talent or natural ability,

The Effects Of Sexual Harassment On Female Officers
Imagine being a female officer working in a male dominated environment where the male officers
tell sexually explicit jokes in the hallway. Supervisors play a pivotal role in managing a productive
diversified workplace (Miller & More, 2011). All employees should feel at ease while in their work
environment (Miller & More, 2011). Officers tend to get comfortable in how the department
operates and expect things to continue to function in the same way. Supervisors must counteract
harmful or undesirable actions or behaviors immediately when an employee becomes difficult to
work with or display unsuitable behavior, which can impair the effectiveness of the officer (Miller &
More, 2011). Supervisors deal with a variety of employee behavior; however, supervisors must be
fair and competent when evaluating employees' behavior (Miller & More, 2011). Change is
inevitable; however, it is necessary to the growth of a law enforcement agency (Miller & More,
2011).
Sexual harassment is one of the reasons why the turnover rate for female officers is high (Miller &
More, 2011). Sexual harassment is "any unwelcome sexual advance or conduct on the job that
creates an intimidating, hostile, or offensive working environment. Any conduct of a sexual nature
that makes an employee uncomfortable has the potential to be sexual harassment" (NOLO, 2014,
para. 4). The Civil Rights Act of 1964 prohibits sexual harassment (Miller & More, 2011). If
management takes immediate and effective steps to

The Department And The City Council
In 2015, the department and the city council did a survey to see if the department had enough
personnel. The study looked at many things such as the amount of calls for service, a number of
officers working each shift, and the schedule the officers were working. In reality, the survey was a
gamble for the department because it could come back in a positive way, finding that we should hire
more officers. Another outcome would be that we were overstaffed meaning we would lose
positions. The final outcome could be that we were adequately staffed and nothing should change.
After several months, the study determined that we had enough personnel, but the officers were
working a ten–hour shift that was consuming too many officers. The study recommended that the
department goes to either an eight or ten–hour shift. The department took the survey's
recommendations and changed all officers to an eight–hour shift. This was very unpopular with the
officers and the chief took an enormous hit on this, but he knew he was doing the best thing for the
department. I think we all knew that the ten–hour shifts were not necessarily the most productive
shift for the department and it was really only being allowed to keep morale up. After working with
the legislature, the department was able to change the state's labor law allowing the work week to be
considered over two weeks. By doing this, the officers could work more than 40 hours one week and
less than 40 hours the next as

Air Force Diversity Essay
WASHINGTON – The senior leadership of the Air Force remains largely white and male despite an
emphasis on diversity in the service and throughout the military, according to data and interviews
with service leaders.
The Air Force has 280 generals, but just 18 of them belong to minority groups. That includes two
Hispanic officers, or less than 1% of the total. The 13 African–American generals make up 4% of
the Air Force's general officer corps.
The Pentagon's other branches, including the Army, share the same struggle to diversify their forces,
a priority of Defense Secretary Ashton Carter. A key concern for the Army resides in the lack of
minority officers leading its combat battalions and brigades. That's where lieutenant colonels and

More officers declined to identify their race, 5%, than the next highest minority group, African
Americans, at 3%. Nearly 94% are men. The military, as a whole, is dominated by men at 85% of its
personnel.
WHY DIVERSITY MATTERS
James and Welsh issued a memo to airmen on why greater diversity is needed in the service. It also
outlined several initiatives aimed at expanding the ranks of women and minorities in the Air Force.
"This approach is necessary because our increasingly diverse citizenry places a special trust in us
and we must keep that trust by ensuring our Air Force is representative of the best of the populace
from which we draw our considerable strength," the memo says.
Army commanders: White men lead a diverse force
Beyond better representing the United States, the Air Force views diversity as necessary for
effectiveness. It loses out on talented minorities and women when they're underrepresented, said
Chevalier Cleaves, the Air Force director of diversity and inclusion and a retired KC–135 tanker
pilot.
"Diversity and inclusion are national security imperatives," Cleaves said. "So we must succeed.
There is no second place for us. In order to do that, we need to make sure that we leverage the talent

Organizational Culture And Organizational Climate
Organizational culture is no longer a peripheral element in organizations to become an element of
strategic importance relieved. It is a strength that directs organizations toward excellence, to
success. The organizational climate is influenced and ultimately determined by the employees'
cultures, i.e. the cultural elements that they bring into the organization. The dynamic between the
individual cultures (from employees) and the culture that the organization seeks to promote will
ultimately dictate not only the organization's culture, but also its structure. Under the
aforementioned concerns for investigation born, whose purpose will be to highlight the importance

to achieve a balance in the organizational culture in which they can interact reference groups that
integrate a harmonized manner and committed to the same ideals. The importance of culture and
organizational climate has been the subject of strong interest from the 80s to the present day; this is
why bibliographic research work aims to make a collection of theoretical assumptions underpinning
the development of the main objective of this research already outlined above. The development of
organizational culture allows members of the organization certain behaviors and inhibits others. An

To what extent is there hope at the end of 'Lord of the Flies'?
There is an imbalance in ending of 'Lord of the Flies', there are more indications of no hope of
rescue than there are of hope. Before the Second World War, Golding believed that humans can be
perfected. He thought that society plays a big role in the nature of humans and by perfecting society,
evil can be eradicated. However, after the war, he realised the human potential for destruction. Not

isolation from civilised values has driven the boys to fight and kill each other.
It is ironic that the naval officer is meant to represent civilization and society but actually represents
the evil present in civilization just like the boys themselves. He is a soldier who fights in wars and
kills soldiers in the opposing armies.
The first image of Jack and his group is presented as "something dark" and a "creature" before
Golding goes on to explain "the creature was a party of boys". The beast turns out to be the evil
within the children themselves. Jack conflicts with most of the other major characters from the
beginning. He calls Piggy "Fatty" on several occasions and opposes Ralph almost every step of the
way. As the novel progresses, Jack becomes more dominating, slowly losing all of his former morals
and 'school–boy' values. A turning point in the novel where this is evident is when Jack paints his
face, "He made one cheek and one eye socket white". Jack becomes another figure of authority on
the island by force.
Whereas, Piggy is the only character on the island who does not change for the worse, he may not

The Five Principles Of The Western Way Of War
21C Technology, Discipline, Unique System of War Finance, Highly Aggressive Military Tradition,
and Emphasis on Innovation are the five principles of the Western Way of War. Having a unique
system of war finance, emphasis on innovation, and discipline are the aspects of the western way of
war that describe warfare in the age of Napoleon (1789–1815).
Unique systems of finance such as nation state resources, levee en masse, and alliances provided the
means to build, strengthen, and maintain military forces for war. Innovation was used to change
organizational design and maneuver practices which allowed the command and control of large
military forces and successful engagements of the enemy. Discipline allowed forces to understand
and study tactics through Bildung and Nationalism among troops allowed forces to move great
distance by pillaging for logistic resources without deserting their units.
Nation State Resources, Levee en Masse, and Alliances are Unique systems of finance that provided
resources to support forces for war. Through Nation State Resources, Army forces were able to
increase in size. This was because Armies were the property of the nation they served and regulated
by the elected officials, not private citizens. In one example, the Bourbon Army grew from 180K in
1789 to over one million by 17941 H104 RA–78.

Armies during war. Levee en masse was a government law that

Lack Of Aggression Analysis
First, an adequate description of the subject's behavior and actions are needed to determine an
appropriate response to the situation. Is the subject resisting? Is the resistance passive or active? Is
the subject aggressive? Is there any attempt to comply? All of these questions would have to be
interpreted in person to gauge how best to respond. Second, going by just the information provided.
Intervention must be made on behalf of the subject. Force would only be needed to the point of
gaining secure custody of a suspect. The best intervention would be an attempt to secure and restrain
the individual, causing fellow officers to contain unwarranted aggression to avoid injuring the
officer attempting to handcuff the suspect. I have arrested hundreds of individuals, even if they are

Lincoln On Leadership Analysis
Over the years I have been fortunate enough to attend several leadership courses. Some were really
helpful and caused me to relook at the way I do things, while others were only marginal. In one way
or another, they were all built around influencing others to get the mission completed. Prior to
reading Lincoln On Leadership by Donald T. Phillips I had never realized what a truly an amazing
leader Lincoln was. Phillips explorers Lincoln's life through his anecdotes and his leadership style
that no other leaders have been able to match. Lincoln was a leader when the country needed him

Talent Management : The Army Bureaucracy Essay
Not long after arriving at the United States Army War College, I heard the phrase "you are now
they," – essentially which I took to mean that any arguments along the lines of "they should do
something about..." were now forbidden. I understand, I'm here to step up and own my share of the
challenges. Unfortunately some of those challenges sound in my ears like "the Army bureaucracy
has created such an impasse and mess of system x that you are now the inheritor, go fix it." I am also
a product of that system. One of those significant problems that the Army faces is grappling with
Talent Management – how to systematically plan for and implement a modernized integration of
personnel accessions, development, employment, and retention to get the right Soldiers and leaders
ready for the right jobs at the right times to meet the Army's requirements.1 John McHugh served as
Secretary of the Army from 2009–2015, and along with Chief of Staff of the Army (CSA) General
Ray Odierno, focused no small part of their efforts during their terms to reinvigorating the Army as
a Profession, highlighting "The upcoming challenge is not just attracting and selecting the best
available candidates to be Army professionals but developing them to be as good as or better than
our current professionals."2 As Ashton Carter assumed the duties as the Secretary of Defense down

It is critical in today's Army that the staff NCO is able to effectively brief his or her commander on potential courses of action for current operations. Before a staff NCO is able to create courses of action against a potential threat, he or she must be able to anticipate the results on the battlefield. To win wars, commanders must be comprehensively informed and make decisions quickly. • 13. An Analysis Of Jimmy Cross, 'Characters InThe Things They... The short story, "The Things They Carried" written by Tim O'Brien, follows a Lieutenant named Jimmy Cross and his men. In the literary work, Tim O'Brien informs the reader not only of the physical objects the men carry but also the intangibles. This includes guilt and fear, while others are specific physical objects, including matches, morphine, M–16 rifles. An American solider by the name of Ted Lavender is killed by a Vietnamese sniper, and his commanding officer, Jimmy Cross, feels personally responsible for the death of his grunt. He feels convicted because he was distracted by a memory of home and an unfulfilled romance. Tim O'Brien develops the character of Lieutenant Jimmy Cross in his literary work through his actions, his thoughts, and his words in order to change his perspective to better serve his men. Throughout the short story, Lieutenant Jimmy Cross's actions change from being a lenient officer overlooking drug usage and waste of ammunition, to an officer with high expectations and strict demands from his soldiers. This is done when he puts his attention towards a woman at home by the name of Martha. For example, Lieutenant Cross was in a dream like state, when it came to Martha and he hoped to do all these things with her. He had hoped to kiss her, caress her body, and make love to her. At that point a soldier named Ted Lavender returned from the bathroom and was shot in the head by a Vietnamese sniper killing him. Jimmy Cross blames himself for the death of ... • 17. Classical Elements Of The Military Essay Classical elements of our military are organizational structure, principles of organizational reward, the machine metaphor, and the theory of bureaucracy. Many theories of management have military backgrounds that date back to the beginning of history to Alexander the Great, Julius Caesar, and Napoleon. All of these leaders became successful through their efficiency to lead, line of command, unity, and division of work. The United States Military is divided into five branches of service. The Army is the the oldest branch of the military, and focuses on defending the country and is the main fighting force of the military. The Air Force works with the Army and is in charge of all of the satellites and nuclear missiles. The Navy ensures equal freedom in the oceans around the world, and protects the interests of our nation to be free. Marine Corps are the first ones to battle, and are responsible for delivering tasks on ground, sea, and in the air. The Coast Guard is responsible for boating safety and rescue, law enforcement, and controlling illegal immigration (Hewes 2005). These are the building blocks behind the reason why our military is so successful and powerful. In 1775, before our nation was established as a Country, colonists were organized into miscellaneous militias with no distinct structure or organization of a unified hierarchy. George Washington recognized the missing piece to the puzzle, and how the Continental Army would conquer and win the Revolutionary War. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 21. Argumentative Essay On Excessive Screen Time Lately, the issue of excessive screen time is becoming increasingly important in pediatrics, and it has become a major risk factor for many chronic conditions such as vision impairment, obesity, and altercations to social behavior. While many parents realize that excessive screen time is harmful, children are still spending eight to ten hours on their electronic devices. Not many parents realize that proper regulation is also needed to keep their child safe from health risks. According to the National Heart, Blood and Lung Institute, 28 percent of parents set TV–watching rules, 30 percent set rules about video game use, and 36 percent of parents set rules about computer use ("Reduce Screen Time", 2013). This is a problem because 60 percent of children are constantly stumbling upon explicit content every year, and their behavior shifts more negatively and aggressively (Lunsford, 510). I believe that too much screen time can pose much harm to a child's health and well–being. If we don't find ways to limit excessive screen time than children will face many consequences that will ultimately harm them as they grow older. Screen time is any time spent using an electronic device such as a computer, T.V, phone, or video game console. Many statistics have shown that an average adult spends nearly eight hours of screen time a day while children spend eight to ten hours a day (Lunsford, 513). Comparing the two pieces of data, children spend more time on electronics than many adults do, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 25. Fatigue: A Case Study Fatigue is a growing concern for law enforcement agencies, especially when it comes to officers that work second jobs (Doerner, 2012). Another concern would be officers using their sick time to work a second job, thus causing staffing issues for the agency (Doerner, 2012). Depending on the type of secondary employment, there could also be a conflict of interest further concerning the law enforcement agency (Doerner, 2012). Some agencies have policies that are in place to prevent issues with officer's primary jobs. These policies include being fully qualified, completed any probation period, not under investigation, hour restrictions, equipment use (including service handgun), and not working in a capacity that could cause a conflict of ... I am applying for a commission from the enlisted ranks. I have found that enlisted to officer programs have many requirements and can be somewhat confusing, but the goal of making a move from enlisted to officer can be accomplished as long as I are willing to put forth the effort to achieve that goal. At this school I will receive intelligence schooling in fundamentals, analysis, and interpretation (The Navy and Marine Corps Intelligence Training Center). Upon completion of the my bachelor's degree, acceptance through the ECP, Officer Candidate School, The Basic School, Initial Intelligence Training, and Military Occupational Specialty Intelligence Training, I will receive orders back to the Fleet Marine Forces. Essay On The Journey Chapter 1 The hangar was alive with activity and tense with expectation as Tensai peered through the pilot's access hatch, then as he crossed the threshold, he paused for a second, inhaling deeply and revelling in the pungent, heavy odour of burnt high–octane fuel and spilt oil. To him, this was the essence of power. Real authority. Not the kind lorded over by Kentali's political masters. As he thought, his gaze reached out across the huge hangar deck, its rich history marked by deep cuts and rainbowed spots of warped steel, and he said a silent remembrance for those less fortunate souls whose journey was already complete. Suddenly he noticed his team assembling before him. They looked on with interest, their faces alight with enthusiasm. Tensai ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... "A single vessel of unclear design has accessed our target. Their forces are unknown, but from the size of the ship, they are fewer than fifty strong." The mission objective held their focus once more and Tensai's Second Officer, Cahal Hannan lifted his left hand to speak. "Will Umonakalisi be there? Aboard The Hub, sir? Not the planet." The pertinent question was expected, his older brother perished in the Blood Sands, one of the many casualties still unburied and unavenged. "No. We do not believe so. Indications are that the ship did not visit Arthe. Therefore, we expect The Destroyer, Umonakalisi remains on the surface." Hannan lowered his gaze, and his head dropped in resignation as his massive frame slumped forwards, he was a bear of a man and far stronger than Tensai, but lacking in speed and agility. A fact he was forever thankful for when they sparred. "We are not expecting resistance on our approach to The Hub, so our training will focus on small arms, confined space combat. • 46. A Short Story : A Story Of A Story It was a summer day in July, the sun was shining bright and you could see the heat waves in the air. My friends Caleb, Javon, and I were heading to the mall. We were there for five minutes when we heard someone yell "Stop!" We turned and saw it was an officer, before we knew it we were all running. Caleb was in front with me and Javon trailing. I turned to look back at the officer he was overweight and his white uniform was already sticking to his body due to him sweating. We turned a corner and went inside a bathroom. We all looked at each other and started laughing. "Why'd you run?" I asked Caleb "I don't know." Caleb said we then left the bathroom and were going to leave but Javon wanted to buy shoes from Footlocker first. I thought to myself we should leave but we went anyway. Javon bought his shoes and once we left the store the officer who chased us earlier was with two other officers. The new officers weren't overweight like the first one. One was tall and lean the other was short and muscular. They saw us and we were off again. While we were running I yelled out "We should split up and meet back up where we parked." They agreed and we went our different ways. The tall officer was chasing me as I ran outside. He was slower than me so I put some distance between us. I ducked under a car while I saw the officer run by after about five minutes I saw the officer go back inside the mall. I made my way to the car and Caleb and Javon weren't there. • 50. Iago's Use Of The Word Officer In Othello An officer as defined by the Merriam– Webster dictionary is "one who holds an office of authority or command," but in Shakespeare's Othello, the word officer becomes characterized with a connotation of trustworthiness and friendship. Othello almost exclusively uses this word as a way of conveying his trust for the person he's referring to, showing his naivety in regards to his judgment. Shakespeare's use of the word officer in Othello to convey trust and friendship helps to illustrate that trust tends to be put in the wrong place when one's judgment is clouded by emotion. From the very start of the play, Iago's ill intent for Othello is illustrated very clearly. In act I scene I, in a conversation with Roderigo, Iago mocks Othello for his decision to place Michael Cassio as his lieutenant over Iago, "And in conclusion, Nonsuits my mediators. For ' Certes,' says he, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In act II, scene iii, Othello tells Iago "I know, Iago, Thy honesty and love doth mince this matter making it light to Cassio. Cassio, I love thee But never more be officer of mine. Look if my gentle love be not raised up! I'll make thee an example." This quote from Othello is ironic because he truly believe Iago is trying to make Cassio look better to Othello so that Othello will have mercy on him, when in reality Iago's intentions are the complete opposite. The irony of this quote is also found in Othello's dismissal of Cassio from not only his position as lieutenant, but also his position as one of Othello's most trusted men. Othello begins to find a confidant in Iago in this scene and genuinely believes that Iago is honest with him, and makes Iago a source of comfort for himself. In this scene Othello is irate that Cassio has disgraced his trust and his position, and in his anger, dismisses Cassio while simultaneously promoting Iago to a higher rank in terms of ... Differences in Rocking–Horse Winner, Prussian Officer, and Second Best Works by the same author often show the repeated use of certain words, images, or plots. In five short stories by the author, D.H. Lawrence, differences between social classes are the basis for conflict and provide the foundation for taboo relationships. These five stories are "The Rocking– Horse Winner," "The Prussian Officer," "Second Best," "The White Stocking," and "The Daughters of the Vicar." Consequently, more violence also arises. The officer is, "a Prussian aristocrat, haughty and overbearing. Having made too many gambling debts . . . he remained an infantry captain"(2). The officer is furious at the youth and vigor of his servant, he often catches himself admiring the "young, brown, shapely peasant's hand"(3) or "the strong, easy young figure, the fine eyebrows, the thick black hair" (5). The class difference is accentuated by the officer's cruelty towards his young charge: he is forced to stay indoors doing mindless tasks instead of spending a few meager minutes with his girlfriend, he is violently kicked behind the legs for failing to answer a question quickly enough, he is slapped in the face with the end of a belt, and he is struck with a heavy military glove in the same way. The officer is clearly jealous of the freedom of the peasantry, and indicates this with his thoughts of hatred and violent actions as well as words. The servant is tortured simply for who he is, not for what he has done: he is lower than the officer and, therefore, faced with less constraint and social pressures. "The Captain could not regain his neutrality of feeling towards his orderly. Nor could he leave the man alone" (4). The torture continues until the two are finally placed on the same level during a climactic scene of violence and death. The orderly's murder of the officer is a man to man struggle, ... • 78. Analysis Of 12 OClock High The movie 12 O'clock High was filmed and produced in 1949 directly after World War Two. This was a critical moment in American history simply because this was the first time that America was the greatest power globally. Due to this rise in international responsibility from power, patriotism soared in the United States. Culturally films like 12 O'clock High were produced highlighting important roles that were played in the defeat of the Axis powers during World War Two. On a more extensive note, the film displays what leadership influence tactics can be used to drastically turn a unit around during a time of war. This unit, part of the American Army Air Force, is known as the 918th Bomber Group located in England, during the year of 1942. At the beginning of the film, Col. Davenport was the Air Commanding Officer with Lt. Col. Gately as the Air Executive Officer. However, General Savage had to step in and relieve Col. Davenport of command after several major battle losses cause morale to fall to an all–time low. Additionally, Lt. Col. Gately is also relieved of command as Air Executive Officer and placed as an aircraft commander due to his inability to fly missions and be a part of the "team effort". This is the major turning point in the movie as from this point forward the 918th Bomber Group eventually becomes a brutal fighting force with the help Major Stovall who is the administrator for the Air Commanding Officer. When Army leaders identified the headgear as a problem, they failed to articulate their reasoning and ultimate objectives behind the transition, thereby, creating confusion amongst the troops. The failures to take into account other points of view, especially from units to which the beret was an exclusive item, made the public relations campaign a nightmare. Army leaders improperly assumed the beret switch would be minimally disruptive and generally accepted. To the contrary, displeased Soldiers from units like the Army Rangers marched from Fort Benning, Georgia to the U.S. Capital to voice their displeasure over the issue. From a practical standpoint, many Soldiers found the beret switch ill conceived. In order to don the beret, it generally required the Soldier to have their hands free so that they could properly place and shape the beret onto their head. It also provided no protection from the elements like the patrol cap offered and cost millions of extra dollars to field. The implications of this decision would have been obvious had they been considered during the Problem Solving Process. The Queensland Police Service (QPS) Incident Command System (ICS) was raised as a project in 2001 with the aim of establishing a Command system which could be used for any type of incident or event. Extensive research was conducted into ICS models throughout Australia and overseas. The QPS ICS was finally adapted from the North American ICS model which allows a flexible approach to incident response with effectiveness and efficiency. The QPS ICS was then adopted into Section 1.12 of the QPS Operational Procedures Manual (OPM 2014). • 106. The Use Of Unreasonable Force And The Fourth Amendment USE OF TASER, IN PROBE AND PRONG MODE, AND CAROTID HOLD AGAINST MR. CORDOVA The use of unreasonable force is constitutionally excessive and violates the Fourth Amendment. Graham v. Connor, 490 U.S. 386, 394–96 (1989). There is no per se rule in determining whether an officer's actions are reasonable under the Fourth Amendment. Scott, 550 U.S. at 383. The courts typically balance "the nature and quality of the intrusion on the individual's Fourth Amendment interests against countervailing governmental interests at stake." Bryan v. MacPherson, 630 F.3d 805, 823 (9th Cir. 2010) (quoting Tennessee v. Garner, 471 U.S. 1, 8 (1985)). However, courts, considering the totality of circumstances, balance the following factors to determine if an officer used force is unreasonable: (1) the severity of the crime at issue, (2) whether the suspect posed an immediate threat to the safety of the officers or others, and (3) whether the suspect was actively resisting arrest or attempting to evade arrest by flight. Graham, 490 U.S. at 396. Because force can be unreasonable even without physical blows or injuries, the analysis under Graham allows the court to determine objectively the amount of force necessary in a particular situation. MacPherson, 630 F.3d at 826. A. Officer Woodward use of Taser in Probe Mode The Court in Bryan v. MacPherson stated that when the officer used the Taser with the probes, aluminum darts tipped with stainless tell barbs connected to the Taser insulated wires, toward the target at a rate of over 160 feet per second. MacPherson, 630 F.3d at 824. The Court noted that once a person is struck, the Taser delivers a 1200–volt into the individual's muscles, making the impact powerful. Id. at 824. The electrical impulse instantly overrides the victim's central nervous system paralyzing the muscles throughout the body, rendering the target limp and helpless making the person experience excruciating pain that radiates throughout the body. Id.; see Draper v. Reynolds, 369 F.3d 1270, 1273 (11th Cir. 2004); see also Lewis v. Downey, 581 F.3d 467, 475 (7th Cir. 2009). Low Professor Allison Herman ENGL 110–04 9 October 2014 To Fail is to Succeed Chloe, a former US Army officer and graduate of the Georgia Military College, reminisced with me when she was going through officer training. She informed me of a general census that is perpetuated within the army; women don't belong in the military. Chloe's instructors would specifically target her and other female cadets. She received tremendous amounts of hazing from some of her so called male teammates. She was kicked in the face and spat on but despite all the challenges Chloe overcame them and was commissioned as a second lieutenant. Chloe's story made me really wonder what keeps people motivated throughout life and why some people give up on their dreams. How do we know when we should throw in the towel? Why do we decide to just stop pursuing our goals? I found myself lost in thought reflecting upon my own life and goals; How do you overcome past failures? I have always had a fear of failure that has held me back from reaching my potential; however, after facing many life challenges I have established a philosophy that I can only get what I want out of life by taking a chance, win or lose. In "Showing Up", Angela Duckworth argues that the reason why people abandon their dreams and continue to fail is because they lack grit; the steadfast resolve and determination to accomplish one's goals. • 114. The Effects Of Sexual Harassment On Female Officers Imagine being a female officer working in a male dominated environment where the male officers tell sexually explicit jokes in the hallway. Supervisors play a pivotal role in managing a productive diversified workplace (Miller & More, 2011). All employees should feel at ease while in their work environment (Miller & More, 2011). Officers tend to get comfortable in how the department operates and expect things to continue to function in the same way. Supervisors must counteract harmful or undesirable actions or behaviors immediately when an employee becomes difficult to work with or display unsuitable behavior, which can impair the effectiveness of the officer (Miller & More, 2011). Supervisors deal with a variety of employee behavior; however, supervisors must be fair and competent when evaluating employees' behavior (Miller & More, 2011). Change is inevitable; however, it is necessary to the growth of a law enforcement agency (Miller & More, 2011). Sexual harassment is one of the reasons why the turnover rate for female officers is high (Miller & More, 2011). Sexual harassment is "any unwelcome sexual advance or conduct on the job that creates an intimidating, hostile, or offensive working environment. • 118. The Department And The City Council In 2015, the department and the city council did a survey to see if the department had enough personnel. The study looked at many things such as the amount of calls for service, a number of officers working each shift, and the schedule the officers were working. In reality, the survey was a gamble for the department because it could come back in a positive way, finding that we should hire more officers. Another outcome would be that we were overstaffed meaning we would lose positions. The final outcome could be that we were adequately staffed and nothing should change. After several months, the study determined that we had enough personnel, but the officers were working a ten–hour shift that was consuming too many officers. The study recommended that the department goes to either an eight or ten–hour shift. The department took the survey's recommendations and changed all officers to an eight–hour shift. This was very unpopular with the officers and the chief took an enormous hit on this, but he knew he was doing the best thing for the department. I think we all knew that the ten–hour shifts were not necessarily the most productive shift for the department and it was really only being allowed to keep morale up. After working with the legislature, the department was able to change the state's labor law allowing the work week to be considered over two weeks. By doing this, the officers could work more than 40 hours one week and less than 40 hours the next as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 122. Air Force Diversity Essay WASHINGTON – The senior leadership of the Air Force remains largely white and male despite an emphasis on diversity in the service and throughout the military, according to data and interviews with service leaders. The Air Force has 280 generals, but just 18 of them belong to minority groups. That includes two Hispanic officers, or less than 1% of the total. The 13 African–American generals make up 4% of the Air Force's general officer corps. The Pentagon's other branches, including the Army, share the same struggle to diversify their forces, a priority of Defense Secretary Ashton Carter. A key concern for the Army resides in the lack of minority officers leading its combat battalions and brigades. That's where lieutenant colonels and colonels ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... More officers declined to identify their race, 5%, than the next highest minority group, African Americans, at 3%. Nearly 94% are men. The military, as a whole, is dominated by men at 85% of its personnel. WHY DIVERSITY MATTERS James and Welsh issued a memo to airmen on why greater diversity is needed in the service. It also outlined several initiatives aimed at expanding the ranks of women and minorities in the Air Force. "This approach is necessary because our increasingly diverse citizenry places a special trust in us and we must keep that trust by ensuring our Air Force is representative of the best of the populace from which we draw our considerable strength," the memo says. Army commanders: White men lead a diverse force Beyond better representing the United States, the Air Force views diversity as necessary for effectiveness. It loses out on talented minorities and women when they're underrepresented, said Chevalier Cleaves, the Air Force director of diversity and inclusion and a retired KC–135 tanker pilot. "Diversity and inclusion are national security imperatives," Cleaves said. "So we must succeed. There is no second place for us. • 126. Organizational Culture And Organizational Climate Organizational culture is no longer a peripheral element in organizations to become an element of strategic importance relieved. It is a strength that directs organizations toward excellence, to success. The organizational climate is influenced and ultimately determined by the employees' cultures, i.e. the cultural elements that they bring into the organization. The dynamic between the individual cultures (from employees) and the culture that the organization seeks to promote will ultimately dictate not only the organization's culture, but also its structure. Under the aforementioned concerns for investigation born, whose purpose will be to highlight the importance of organizational culture and climate as determinants of the effectiveness of civilian personnel in the military context, it will allow the reflection of high management of the military organization in order to achieve a balance in the organizational culture in which they can interact reference groups that integrate a harmonized manner and committed to the same ideals. The importance of culture and organizational climate has been the subject of strong interest from the 80s to the present day; this is why bibliographic research work aims to make a collection of theoretical assumptions underpinning the development of the main objective of this research already outlined above. The development of organizational culture allows members of the organization certain behaviors and inhibits others. An open and humane ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There is an imbalance in ending of 'Lord of the Flies', there are more indications of no hope of rescue than there are of hope. Before the Second World War, Golding believed that humans can be perfected. He thought that society plays a big role in the nature of humans and by perfecting society, evil can be eradicated. However, after the war, he realised the human potential for destruction. Not simply killing one another, by exterminating large groups based on their race and beliefs. This was intentional and was carried out by skilled professionals. His intention was to show that 'Coral Island' was not a true representation of how young boys would behave on an island. The ... If the hunt was successful then this would be the third murder on the island. The isolation from civilised values has driven the boys to fight and kill each other. It is ironic that the naval officer is meant to represent civilization and society but actually represents the evil present in civilization just like the boys themselves. He is a soldier who fights in wars and kills soldiers in the opposing armies. The first image of Jack and his group is presented as "something dark" and a "creature" before Golding goes on to explain "the creature was a party of boys". The beast turns out to be the evil within the children themselves. Jack conflicts with most of the other major characters from the beginning. He calls Piggy "Fatty" on several occasions and opposes Ralph almost every step of the way. As the novel progresses, Jack becomes more dominating, slowly losing all of his former morals and 'school–boy' values. A turning point in the novel where this is evident is when Jack paints his face, "He made one cheek and one eye socket white". Jack becomes another figure of authority on the island by force. Whereas, Piggy is the only character on the island who does not change for the worse, he may not always have the authority or the attention to get his ideas and suggestions across, but Ralph who is chief ... East Lincoln Middle School Speech Kendall Getten 12 2370 Nautical Ct Denver NC 704–657–4600 Prose 68 kendallgetten@gmail.com East Lincoln Middle School It seems that no one really understands us. By "us" I mean the people who live every day in fear of starving or freezing to death. People walk past us on the streets and comment on how sick we look, but they do nothing to help! They think that if they give us money we will just spend it on alcohol, cigarettes, or drugs. They don't understand that we are scared, scared of dying, and scared of having nothing to live for. I only have one thing to live for, my younger brother. I am responsible for taking care of him because i was the one who convinced him to run away from the orphanage with me. The way we have been living is hard, but we manage. I leave him every day at 8 o'clock in the morning to go steal some of the sweet juicy oranges that the shopkeeper sells. • 138. The Five Principles Of The Western Way Of War 21C Technology, Discipline, Unique System of War Finance, Highly Aggressive Military Tradition, and Emphasis on Innovation are the five principles of the Western Way of War. Having a unique system of war finance, emphasis on innovation, and discipline are the aspects of the western way of war that describe warfare in the age of Napoleon (1789–1815). Unique systems of finance such as nation state resources, levee en masse, and alliances provided the means to build, strengthen, and maintain military forces for war. Innovation was used to change organizational design and maneuver practices which allowed the command and control of large military forces and successful engagements of the enemy. Discipline allowed forces to understand and study tactics through Bildung and Nationalism among troops allowed forces to move great distance by pillaging for logistic resources without deserting their units. Nation State Resources, Levee en Masse, and Alliances are Unique systems of finance that provided resources to support forces for war. Through Nation State Resources, Army forces were able to increase in size. This was because Armies were the property of the nation they served and regulated by the elected officials, not private citizens. In one example, the Bourbon Army grew from 180K in 1789 to over one million by 17941 H104 RA–78. Levee en Masse was a unique system of finance used to cover severe manpower requirements for Armies during war. Levee en masse was a government law that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Is the resistance passive or active? Is the subject aggressive? Is there any attempt to comply? All of these questions would have to be interpreted in person to gauge how best to respond. Second, going by just the information provided. Intervention must be made on behalf of the subject. Force would only be needed to the point of gaining secure custody of a suspect. The best intervention would be an attempt to secure and restrain the individual, causing fellow officers to contain unwarranted aggression to avoid injuring the officer attempting to handcuff the suspect. I have arrested hundreds of individuals, even if they are originally aggressive, once they realize the fight is lost there is no longer a need for striking. Some were really helpful and caused me to relook at the way I do things, while others were only marginal. In one way or another, they were all built around influencing others to get the mission completed. Prior to reading Lincoln On Leadership by Donald T. Phillips I had never realized what a truly an amazing leader Lincoln was. Phillips explorers Lincoln's life through his anecdotes and his leadership style that no other leaders have been able to match. Lincoln was a leader when the country needed him the most. A couple of months into his time as acting commander one of my officers went to Josh because he knew that Josh would listen to him and not think less of him for needing help. The officer was having some issues at home and wanted Josh's guidance. The officer already knew what he needed to do, but wanted to hear it from someone he trusted. When leaders cut themselves off from their people, there is no ability to build trust like the trust that Josh had built with this officer. • 150. Talent Management : The Army Bureaucracy Essay Not long after arriving at the United States Army War College, I heard the phrase "you are now they," – essentially which I took to mean that any arguments along the lines of "they should do something about..." were now forbidden. I understand, I'm here to step up and own my share of the challenges. Unfortunately some of those challenges sound in my ears like "the Army bureaucracy has created such an impasse and mess of system x that you are now the inheritor, go fix it." I am also a product of that system. One of those significant problems that the Army faces is grappling with Talent Management – how to systematically plan for and implement a modernized integration of personnel accessions, development, employment, and retention to get the right Soldiers and leaders ready for the right jobs at the right times to meet the Army's requirements.1 John McHugh served as Secretary of the Army from 2009–2015, and along with Chief of Staff of the Army (CSA) General Ray Odierno, focused no small part of their efforts during their terms to reinvigorating the Army as a Profession, highlighting "The upcoming challenge is not just attracting and selecting the best available candidates to be Army professionals but developing them to be as good as or better than our current professionals."2 As Ashton Carter assumed the duties as the Secretary of Defense down the hall in the Pentagon in 2015, the Army's approach was a natural fit into Carter's "Force of the Future." All you can hear is the sounds of gunshots and mortar shells landing in the distance with the faint scream of wounded soldiers coming from all around. The field is a miserable place to be, it is a hog pin but it's worse than a hog pin because a hog pin doesn't have the horrid stench of death in it. There are trenches dug in the field to house the men and this is where Sgt. Jimmy Adler was sitting and waiting for another chance to be the man everyone knew he was.
