A comparison of the respiration of yeast in different sugar substrates
Aim: The aim was to compare the respiration of yeast in different substrates of sugars, i.e. between
a monosaccharide (glucose) and a disaccharide (maltose)
Theory: There are three types of Carbohydrates, monosaccharides, disaccharides, and
polysaccharides. The two, which I will be looking at, are, monosaccharide (glucose) and the
disaccharide (maltose)
Classification and major properties of carbohydrates
GroupPropertiesExamples
Monosaccharides general formula:(CH20)n(n = 3 to 0)Small molecules with low molecular mass;
sweet tasting; crystalline; readily soluble in water.Trioses, e.g. glyceraldehyde (C3H603)Hexoses
e.g. glucose, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Breaking this bond would slow the rate of CO2 produced in the respiration of yeast with the
disaccharide in comparison to the monosaccharide.
My hypothesis can be justified by the way in which yeast digests with the chosen sugars.
Yeast is a single celled fungus, most in the class of Ascomycetes. The Ascomycetes yeasts include
the common bread, beer, and wine producing varieties of Saccharomyces Cereviseae. As yeast is a
fungus and possesses no chlorophyll, it would be unable to photosynthesise. Therefore the yeast
must obtain its carbohydrates by secreting enzymes onto the surface on which it is growing.
In the case of glucose and maltose, these enzymes are zymase and maltase. Maltose requires the
specific maltase enzyme to first hydrolyse the glycosidic bond in between the glucose subunits of
maltose before the zymase enzyme can break down the two ГЎ glucose monomers from maltose.
However glucose only requires the zymase enzyme to be broken down into ethanol and CO2,
maltose. As the glycosidic bond needs to be hydrolysed in maltose to form two monomers of
glucose, and additionally two enzymes are needed to break down maltose, is the reason why I
think that the rate of CO2 produced by the respiration of yeast will be

Chomp The Movie Essay
Chomp Chomp is an action packed novel that tells the story of a young boy named Wahoo.
Wahoo s dad Mickey Cray was an animal handler in the mist of south Florida. A want to be
survivalist Derek Badger is on a T.V. show called Expedition Survival. Like other survival shows
Derek is placed in a part of the world that has rough terrain or a bad climate. Derek really wasn t
the fit type so it was quite hard to tape the show with an out of shape idiot who knows nothing
about the true meaning of survival. Derek and the crew of expedition survival came to Mickey
Cray. They asked him to help shoot the show. They wanted Mickey to put some of his deadliest
animals in scenes of the show. What the viewers did not know about the show Expedition
Survival was all the scenes were scripted that s why the Expedition Survival team went to
Mickey Cray. Derek Badger also wanted to film the episode in the heart of the Everglades.
Wahoo and his dad decided to take a trip to Walmart to stock up on food. Wahoo ran into a girl
named Tuna. Tuna had a black eye. She wanted Wahoo and his father to take her with them and that
s what they did. Wahoo and his father soon find out that it was Tunas father who caused the brutal

Link worked for Sickler as a professional air boat driver. Mickey Cray hated every little thing
about Derek. The way he just mistreated nature really pushed his buttons. Derek almost got
killed by the big alligator named Allice. Luckily Mickey was there to save his life. After many
long days of rain it held back the taping of the show. One night why Derek was eating his five
star dishes under a canopy so the rain did not get him wet. Raven stark was doing her usual tell
Derek to stop eating. The rain let up and a bat was injured on the ground. Derek made tons of
cameras come over and watch him eat the bat unfortunately the bat bit him on the

Vaping Vs Smoking Research Paper
In 2016 there were more than 480,000 deaths annually from smoking according to the CDC. With
that in mind, is vaping a good and safer alternative to smoking? Vapor products are
noncombustible electronic devices that contain no tobacco and do not emit smoke. Vaping devices
create vapor by heating a coil or wire that is wrapped around a cotton or rayon wick, this, in turn,
vaporizes the liquid which in then inhaled giving the effect and feeling of inhaling smoke from a
cigarette. Smokingdelivers nicotineto the user s body via combustion and smoke inhalation. The
combustion is what makes smoking so bad for you. When the tobaccois burned, it releases
thousands of toxic chemicals into your body. Vaping allows users to choose different flavors

A Brief Note On Maple Syrup
One thing Canada is known for is their maple syrup. Canada s maple syrup has always been a
part of the culture. From being taught how to harvest sap from the immense amount of maple
trees, boil it and turn it into one of Canada s main foods, Canadian maple syrup has always been in
demand. To produce one gallon of maple syrup, on average, 40 gallons of sap is needed. In 2007,
6.7 million pounds of maple syrup were exported to the United States alone, so a lot of
resources, in this case, trees, are needed.[Pure Canada Maple] Maple syrup can be used for many
things, although it is often paired with pancakes, waffles, or French toast, it is also used to top
oatmeal or porridge. Other uses of maple syrup are ingredients in baking and as a flavouring
agent. Canada produces 71 percent of the world pure maple syrup, this percentage however
continues to increase. Out of that percentage, 91 percent is produced in the province of Quebec.
Although Quebec produces most of Canada s maple syrup, Ontario, New Brunswick, P.E.I and
Nova Scotia produce maple syrup as well.[ibid] With more than 8600 maple syrup businesses in
Canada, the infamous Canadian maple syrup is exported to around 50 countries.[ibid] From when
the Algonquians found syrup and used simple tools to extract sap from maple trees, until now, the
process has not changed much. An important note is that not many regions have the natural
resources of maple trees, to be able to produce the product themselves. Canada, however,

What is art? Art is mixtures of different mediums put together, for example netting in Janet
Echelon s Her secret is patient, or using chocolate to create a sculpture. Art isn t just a painting
or drawing, it is the projection one s creativity and ideas to the public. Art is emotions cast by
individuals. Art isn t one idea. Art is everlasting, and will be constantly changing from period to
period. There isn t one time or place that did not encounter art throughout history. Art isn t right or

Differences in Geometry Essay
Differences in Geometry
Geometry is the branch of mathematics that deals with the properties of space. Geometry is
classified between two separate branches, Euclidean and Non Euclidean Geometry. Being based off
different postulates, theorems, and proofs, Euclidean Geometry deals mostly with two dimensional
figures, while Demonstrative, Analytic, Descriptive, Conic, Spherical, Hyperbolic, are Non
Euclidean, dealing with figures containing more than two dimensions. The main difference between
Euclidean, and Non Euclidean Geometry is the assumption of how many lines are parallel to
another. In Euclidean Geometry it is stated that there is one unique parallel line to a point not on
that line.
Euclidean Geometry has been around for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Spherical Geometry is also the most commonly used Non Euclidean geometry, being used by
astronomers, pilots, and ship captains. In Euclidean geometry it is stated that the sum of the
angles in a triangle are equal to 180 #61616;. As for Spherical geometry it is stated that the sum
of the angles in a triangle are always greater than 180 #61616;. When most people try and
visualize a triangle containing angle sums greater than 180 #61616; they say it s impossible.
They re right, in Euclidean geometry it is impossible, but as for Spherical geometry, it is possible.
Think of the triangle on a sphere, and then try and visualize it. See Appendix 1 1.
When thinking of the Non Euclidean Spherical Geometry, we start of with a basic sphere. A
sphere is a set of points in three dimensional space equidistant from a point called the center of the
sphere. The distance from the center to the points on the sphere is called the radius. See Appendix 1
2 to visualize tangents, lines, and centers between the sphere, lines, and planes.
Unlike standard Euclidean Geometry, in Spherical Geometry, radians are used to replace degree
measures. It is usual for most people to measure angles and such with degrees, as for scientists,
engineers, and mathematicians, radians are used to substitute degree measures. The size of a
radian is determined by the requirement that there are 2pi radians in a circle. Thus 2pi radians
equals 360 degrees. This means that 1 radian =

What Native Peoples Deserve Essay
What Native Peoples Deserve
The article What Native Peoples Deserve by Roger Sandall talks about the Roosevelt Indian
Reservation in the Amazon rain forest. The Roosevelt Indian Reservation is situated on the world s
current largest deposit of diamonds and no one in the government, the local Indians and the diamond
diggers want the diamonds left in the ground. However, the laws in Brazil make it impossible for
anyone to begin digging there. Because of the strict laws governing the extraction of the diamonds,
it has lead to the region becoming saturated in blood, murder and mayhem.
According to the 2005 article, Mr. Sandall said that the massacre of Cinta Larga Indians by rubber
tappers in 1963 was the caused by diamonds, not rubber. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Only then did the world turn its attention to the Amazon rain forest. Since the 2004 slaughter of
the twenty nine miners and murder of the man who tried to quell the conflict, several laws have
gone into effect to get the Cinta Larga Indians back their land and make it illegal for mining to
be done on the Cinta Larga Indian reservation. According to the article, the Figueiredo Report
was established after the massacre in 1963 to deal with the shockingly grave deficiencies and
abuses that were then being tolerated by the Indian Protection Service, including the use of
individual Indians as slaves (Angeloni 230). Now that the Certificate of the Kimberley Process
was passed in 2006, it has made it illegal for anyone to ship rough diamonds out of the country that
d been dug out from areas that are protected.
It is both interesting and horrifying to be learning about a culture being depleted and wiped out
just because they are situated on top of a large diamond deposit that greedy people want to
exploit. The diamond mining is the leading cause of all the bloodshed, murder and mayhem in the
region. Since the Certificate of the Kimberley Process was passed, it has made it illegal to ship
diamonds out of the country that have been extracted from areas of conflict or those that aren t
approved by the National Department of Mineral

A Scar to Remember
New York City, summer of 2007, I got out of the car and inhaled the stale air. I rushed to the
entrance with my luggage and opened the door of the washed out red sky high building. After
my family and I entered the building and we serenely walked over to the elevator and I pushed
the button until it flashed luminous red. I was thrilled I was going to see my cousins after such
a long time. The last time we were together was when I used to live there. We moved to
Massachusetts when I was two years old. I was wondering what this place had in store for me and
if this is going to be the best summervacation or not. But what will happen to me became a scar
that will always be with me forever. The bell went off and the elevator doors opened on the sixth
floor. I took a left and went straight until I saw the door that opened to their apartment. I knocked
on the door extremely exhilarated feelinglike my head would pop off my neck. When my aunt
unlocked and opened up the door, she saw us and was utterly shocked. SURPRISE! She came
out of the apartment and gave all of us a hug as well as our cousins and after welcomed us into
their home. My cousin asks me Why did you suddenly come to New York? I verbalized Why
you don t want us here? She then replied No that is not what I meant. We traveled here because as

The 1980s Research Paper
The 1980s was a time where a lot of change took place. Some of these changes were pretty quirky
including the movies, music, fashion, and politics of the time. Most people were ready for
something different and that is what the 1980s presented. It became eccentric with music and
fashion from Madonna and Cyndi Lauper, bands like Guns n Roses and Metallica, Reagan s
changes to the economy, Nintendo, and bright colors and big hair. The impact of this decade
continues on in today s society. There are school dances oriented towards this decade, the music
of the 1980s time can still be heard on the radio, movies of today make references of the movies of
the 1980s, and Nintendo has grown much bigger since then. The 1980s will continue to make an...

The Shortage in the Supply of Clean Water Is a Looming...
The shortage in the supply of clean water is a looming crisis in some regions of the world. Discuss
the causes and consequences.
1. Introduction
Water shortage has been a worrisome problem facing the world. We mostly live in water rich
countries washing dishes, watering plants and taking a shower, it s hard to imagine or realize there
will be inadequate water supply for the world one day. Water is a finite resource such that the
amount of fresh water supply provided by the hydrological cycle will not increase. Water occupies
71% of the world s surface and is an integral part of the global hydrologic cycle which includes like
precipitation, evaporation and soil moisture. Without this hydrologic cycle, even a human being
cannot live ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, pollution lowers the quality of water and reduces the amount of water available for use.
d. Poor water management
Although the supply of water in the world is limited, water shortage can still be avoided by
better water management. However, some responsible agency did not take proper actions to
conserve water. For example, water leakages are not properly prevented with regular maintenance
of water containers and water distribution systems. Also, the number of water tankers or any other
water related facilities are not adequate to store water for future use and the sewage treatment
system is not well operated and supervised to prevent water being contaminated by pollutants and
water can be reused. Fines should be imposed on anyone who wastes this precious source on other
unnecessary areas as well as industries which continuously emit toxic substances to pollute water in
order to punish them for the misuse of water and educate them to conserve water. Dams or other
constructions should also be built to reduce flooding. After all, poor water management will speed
up the occurrence of water shortage and become a threat of our life to us.
e. Increasing water consumption
The ever growing water consumption of people leads to water shortage by wasting water in other
needless areas. In our

State Capitalism vs Liberal Capitalism
Overview
Capitalism is the combination of many actions that provides the economic structure such as the
changing balance of output, trade, income and employment. This is based on private ownership by
means of corporations or individuals. There are many types of capitalism. This essay discusses two
types of capitalism that are currently being debated in the media, State capitalism and liberal
capitalism.
This essay also investigates whether the South Africa is really state capitalism or are they using
Major Private Sectors to socially develop the South African economy, being Neoliberal capitalism?

Transportation and Water
Government is planning to develop and integrate rail, road and water infrastructure in various parts
of South Africa. This is increasing the production of minerals; namely coal, platinum, palladium,
chrome and other minerals. This will also expand the rail transport thus connecting coalfields to
power stations.
The government is planning to link South Africa s major cities, such as Gauteng, Durban and the
Free State with each other and with the major sea ports to improve exports. The government is
implementing this integration with their state owned enterprise, Transnet. Thus implying that the
upgrade of transportation is state led capitalized. Further to this, Transnet is reducing port charges
to decrease the cost of doing business.
Furthermore the reason for government intervention in transportation and water development is to
increase the production of minerals which is our primary GDP driver. Mining Industry contributes
8.8% directly to the country s gross domestic product (GDP) and another 10% indirectly. (Brand

Memory is a rudimentary cognitive process, which plays a critical role in nearly all other important

autobiographical memory (AM) is one of the most important ways by which we develop a
coherent representation of self, an understanding of who we are, and our ability to make sense of
the past (James, 1890; Bluck and Habermas, 2001, Conway, 2005). The complex phenomenon is
dependent on the refined interaction of semantic memory (for factual, and conceptual knowledge,

Anti obesity effects of polyunsaturated fatty acids
Introduction
In recent years, obesity has become a significant health problem in industrialized countries such as
the United States. Obesity is strongly associated with increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes
mellitus, hypertension, dyslipidemia, coronary heart disease, and congestive heart failure. The
World Health Organization has defined obesity as one of the top ten global health problems. High
fat diets containing large amounts of saturated fat and low amounts of unsaturated fat, may directly

These fish oils are not produced in humans, but are not considered essential; although they take part
in important functions such as in cell membranes, gene interactions, and others (Williams, 2009).
For example, omega 3 fatty acid supplementation containing DHA has been observed to lessen the
inflammatory component of several chronic diseases (Browning 2003; Calder 2006). The
cardioprotective effects of supplementing DHA and EPA are well documented; they have been
shown to reduce total serum triacylglycerol concentrations, blood pressure, platelet aggregation, and
inflammation (Breslow 2006; Richter 2003).
Far fewer studies have focused on the anti obesity effects of DHA and EPA. However, these
studies have reported enhanced lipid oxidation, increased thermogenesis, prevention of free fatty
acids from entering adipocytes for lipogenesis, as well as other potential anti obesity effects (Li,
2008).
Underlying Mechanisms of Anti Obesity Effects of PUFA
PUFA decrease energy intake and/or increase energy expenditure
The body s ability to maintain a balance between energy intake and output is controlled by multiple
complex systems and imbalance of this system leads to metabolic symptoms such as obesity.
Obesity normally occurs when energy intake exceeds energy output (Hanbauer et al 2009). It has
been shown that overtime appetite is stimulated when there is a decrease in the circulating level of
fat metabolizing products. An individual s

Isaac Newton
Isaac Newton. One of the major flaws with the Copernican system manifested with the retainment
of perfect circular orbits, as theorized by Ptolemy, and even with the removal of the equant,
Copernicus still had to use some epicycles to explain retrograde. This still left many issues, because
this very unnatural movement didn t make it that much less clunky than Ptolemy s system.
Johannes Kepler, with his first law of planetary motion, provided a solution for this issue. He
theorized that planets actually move in an elliptic orbit, with the sunnot necessarily at the very
center of the ellipse. When taken in account with Copernicus idea of the Earth s rotation, this got
rid of the need for epicycles, and provided a much smoother system. In addition,... Show more

Firstly, the heliocentric system driven by Copernicus disproved the ideas of two, powerful, and at
the time, most valid sources, the Ancient world and the Catholic Church. This opened up
questioning and curiosity of many other aspects of humanity in the centuries that followed, and in
parallel to this the rejection of the theological idea that man has dominance in the universe
(SECOND GALE SOURCE). This curiosity led to so many great discoveries across the course of
the entire revolution, from chemistry, to calculus, and even biology. Even though heliocentrism
occurred as an astronomical endeavor, it by itself influenced the development so many ideas not
just used in astronomy. Newton s laws of physics would never have been possible if not for the
heliocentric system to back it up, and in fact, nearly all of Kepler s, Newton s, and Galileo s
work described above built on Copernicus ideas. It can also be said that the development of
heliocentrism gave rise to modern scientific method. The mathematical and rigorous approaches
to proof all used by Newton, Galileo, and Copernicus set a bar of quality differed greatly from the
very assumptive and proofless explanations for many phenomena, many set by the Church or the
Bible. The idea of developing an idea slowly, over the course of many people s lives, while using
mathematical proofs is essentially the process that occurs today when developing important

old life and embrace a new one. Some of these obsticles prevail in making Chips except the new
ways of life, while some only make him believe that his old ways are supperiour. Although Mr.
Chips is stuck in his ways and doesn t much like change, he understands that life will not always be

In fact he thinks quite the opposite. He marries someone who is full of new ideas and believes
there should be change. Chips even says that at first he thought this new type of women would

book explains how Chips and Kathies relationship went: And Kathie widened and broadened his
views and opinions, giving him an outlook far beyond the roofs of Brooksfield... She had a
cleverer brain than his, and he could not confuse her ideas even if and when he disagreed with
them; he remained, for instance, a conserative in politics, despite all her radical socialistic talk.
But even where he did not except, he absorbed. His passage shows who Chips really is, he is a
man who likes his old ways, but is open minded to other ideas and is not to stubborn to change his
mind if he is wrong about something. However, when he knows he s right, he still listens to the
other.
I m sure Ralston just thought Chips was an old man who despised change and wanted everything
to stay the same. However, Chips was a man who was open minded and willing to make changes if

A Study Of Female Writers Of Romantic Period
A Study of female writers of romantic period
Introduction:
Various types of literature are found from the advent of English literature. Before the romantic
period, there were various other periods like old English literature, middle English literature,
English renaissance, neo classical period etc. From the beginning we notice that there is an
imbalance between the male and female authors. Male writers are found more than the female
writers. This imbalance is also found in the romantic literature. Also it is seen that, though the
majority writers are men, the women are more interested in reading those piece of literature,
compared to male. The romantic period was an intellectual movement originated in Europe during
the late 17th century. William Wordsworthis considered to be as the father of romantic period in
one hand, on the other hand William blake is called the father of romantic period. The romantic
period was basically a response to industrial revolution. In this period, the writers wrote about
nature, personal experiences, showed the negative side of city life and put more importance on
imagination. Metaphors, symbols are quite common in this period of writing. In this research, I will
try to find out the reasons behind the less number of female writers in the romantic period, was it
because their lack of skills, was it because the male writers were dominating or they did write but it
was not published or there are

process of designing, often including the arranging, of the dorm room, and labor buying the
decorations. As an interior designer as myself, is someone who directs and takes control in such
projects. Interior dorm designing is a multifaceted skilled profession that includes development,
creativity, thinking, and communicating with the owners of the project and the management
and execution of the design. What I do is a process of shaping the experience of an interior space
that reflects the owner s personality. It all started when everyone complimented me on my dorm
room and asked me to do there s. Then and there is when KC Design was born. B.We are unique
in a lot of ways, there is no other like us. Other interior dorm design businesses are all online or
in an app. So our market structure is considered to be a monolithic competition. Which is a type
of market structure in which many other businesses sell products that are similar to us but not
identical. There are no dorm design businesses that will knock on your dorm nor move furniture
themselves. My business is an intangible service. In the near future I would like KC Design to be
worldwide in every college campus. Which means I would have to have lots of universal
employees nationwide. Our availability of substitutes can be those whom wish to design their own
rooms themselves or choose not to do business with us KC Design.

Power Has The Ability To Improve, Or Corrupt Its Holder.
Power has the ability to improve, or corrupt its holder. In William Golding s Lord of the Flies,
the desire for power is illustrated through symbols in the novel, and changes in the boys
behavior. Throughout the boys struggle to survive, their strong thirst for power quickly begins
to consume them. People of authority may use power to their advantage, such as Jack, and it
may often corrupts one s mind. Power is not all bad, though corrupted authority and abuse of
power have many consequences, one of which is the collapse of society. Golding uses
symbolism to show how power affects the boys morals and behavior. The desire and
consequences are shown with the conch, Jack vs Henry s view on power, and the killing of the
pig. The conch is a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Secondly, the way power affects someone is shown within Jack and Henry. Henry has a short
encounter with power, while the consequences are long lasting with Jack. Henry attempts to
control tiny transparent creatures on the shore by talk(ing) to them, urging them, ordering them
(61). He is so fascinated with these creatures and is entranced by the power that he has over
them. He desires power, and finds it when he begins to control these transparencies. His
encounter is short, and he cherishes what little power he had, and does not mind that his orders
go unfulfilled. On the other hand, Jack lets the power go to his head. Jack was obsessed with
hunting, and his desire for power had caused him to lose his identity. Jack wanted to camouflage
himself so he d have an advantage over his prey, by rubbing his face with charcoal. He planned
his new face. He made one cheek and eye socket white...he looked in astonishment, no longer at
himself but an awesome stranger (63). Behind the mask Jack was liberated from shame and self
consciousness (64), and it transformed not only his appearance, but his attitude. The mask
allowed Jack to put away all civilized thought, and unfortunately he goes too far with this. He
becomes more mean and demanding towards the boys. He had power over a pig s life, and is
given power by the hunters. They obey him and follow him around,

Reflective Essay On Gender Discrimination
It was October 1965 we moved to Douglas and lived in a pallid apartment building downtown, as it
was all I could afford. Although it small, the town encompassed the loud personality of stereotypical
families who had opinions on everything and everyone.
The frail, dying leaves obfuscated the path down Lincoln Avenue where I walked, glancing at the
nebulous clouds drift through the sky. At eight this morning, I dropped off my two children,
Evelynn and Paul, at their elementary school and walked to Jefferson Regional Hospital where I
worked my morning shift. I then realized that my disregarded wallet lay on my kitchen table, and
began the trek home to grab it.
The breeze blew by me as I continued and cars drove down the avenue. It was a gorgeous day;
nature casting a chimera, hiding away oncoming troubles.
Gender discrimination, a visibly trackable occurrence through time, can be traced through my own
lineage. Although it recedes far into the past, its virulent hands seep into our future grasping,
gripping, pulverizing the progress of thousands before us. The stigmatization of divorced women in
the 1960 s is rarely addressed as the egregious discrimination that it was. And still is.
In July, visited my Oregon and spent three days with my grandmother, Charlotte Carter. Unaware
of her former struggles, I was saddened to learn of the discrimination she faced trying to survive
as a divorced, single mother with two children. My newfound appreciation for this loving woman
grows each and every time I see how she raised two compassionate, caring children despite the
accusation from the world. My mother, Charlotte s daughter, has given me the inspiration to tell
this story in a hope to diminish the prejudice we all carry for strangers.
I scrambled up the stairs and bustled down the unkempt hallway, only to find Mr., Duke at my
door. He nonchalantly leaned on the doorframe and he held a stack of paper in his arms. Opening
his mouth, he said, You ve been evicted. Be gone tomorrow

there has been the idea of the supernatural. The notion varies from spirits and vampires to curses

Summary Of Amusing Ourselves To Death
Growing up as a child my mom made a habit of watching the morning news regardless of the
events taking place in America. Whether my mom watched the news for entertainment purposes
or just to see what was significant to her has been left unanswered. I start my paragraph to prove
a point that Neil Postman makes in his book, Amusing Ourselves to Death. In Postman s book, he
argues that the news today is for entertainment and it is irrelevant to the people who obtain it.
Postman s character, Henry David Thoreau gives an example of Postman s debate stating,
Perchance the first news that will leak into the flapping American ear will be that Princess
Adelaide has the whooping cough. Which reminds me of a news segment I observed on News 7,
January 25, 2017. The segment affirmed that a birth... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Internal Life Of Vivian Bearing, By Margaret Edson
To know and feel all this and not have the words to express it makes a human a grave of his own

Margaret Edson. The play examines the internal life of Vivian Bearing, a professor of seventeenth
century poetryand specializes in the Holy Sonnets of John Donne, suffering from Stage Four
Ovarian cancer, which is the final stage of this form of cancer, and is also terminal. From the
beginning of the play the audience is already informed that Vivian is going to die, which brilliantly
takes away the sense of hope from the audience that she may survive. This causes for the audience
to focus more on Vivian s final moments of her life instead of anticipating her death. I will be
focusing on how Vivian s perspective on her own life changes after her diagnosis. The reason for
her change in perspective throughout her treatment is due to a medical and psychological term
called demoralization. I will be using the scholarly article Demoralization in Medical Practice , by
Juliet C. Jacobsen, M.D., Guy Maytal, M.D., and Theodore A. Stern, M.D. to connect how
demoralization is affecting Vivian s new lifestyle as a terminally ill cancer patient. The cause of

The Coffee Bean And Tea Leaf
The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf is basically a Starbucks clone chain, kind of new ish to the Bay
Area, apparently originating in L.A. and slowly creeping its way north and east over the last
couple of decades. I don t know about any of the other locations, as this is the only one I ve been
to, but I d rate it as maybe slightly better than Starbucks overall, but with worse coffee. This
particular location is between 4th and 5th along Market, an area surprisingly not well supplied
by coffee shops other than the obligatory two or three Starbucks seemingly present on every
downtown block. The interior is much more spacious and inviting than most downtown coffee
shops, and also has a lot of patio tables set up outdoors. There s a good amount of tables inside
and a large coffee table in the middle around which are some leather sofas and stuffed chairs.
Unfortunately the coffee and food is hidden behind a partition, and to see everything you must
enter a cafeteria style line, so if it is busy you are pretty much committed and can t change your
mind about buying something. The menu is basically all the expected coffee drinks, tea,
muffins, scones, some miscellaneous pastries, and bagels. Prices are average to slightly high for
the area. A small coffee is $1.75, which is definitely high, and the size isn t any better than any of
the cheaper places around. A bagel is a more reasonable $1.25, but they charge you an extra 50
cents for cream cheese, yet only give you one of those

Summary Of Savitar s Running Fast
Savitar is clearly a speedster just like the Flash. However, I do not believe that Savitar uses the
speed force exactly like Barry does. Barry s use of the speed force allows him to break the time
barrier. Breaking the time barrier allows Barry to time travel. In the second to last episode of the
Flash that premiered before this article was written(which was the seventh episode of the third
season) Savitar demonstrated that he is fast enough to make it seem like he is appearing and
reappearing in different places over and over again. Cisco and the rest of the characters assume
that Savitar is, in fact, running fast enough for Barry s suit tracker to show that he is seemingly
teleporting. Here is where my theory comes into play. What if Cisco and the rest of Team Flashare

I believe that Savitar is actually using the speed force in a way that is drastically different than the
way that Barry uses the speed force. Now, the way that Barry uses the speed force is a topic for a
different day, but he clearly does not use it in the same way that Savitar seems to use it. I think
that Savitar teleports by breaking the space barrier. When Barry time travels, he opens a portal
into the speed force, enters the speed force, and then emerges in a point in time of his choosing.
What Savitar seems to be doing is opening a portal to the speed force, entering the portal, and
then emerging at a point in space of his choosing. This explains why everything looks like it
does in the speed force when Savitar runs. It looks like Savitar is in the speed force because he is
in the speed force. This means that Savitar may not actually be much faster than Barry. In fact, if
we attribute his victory over Barry in the beginning of the seventh episode to Barry being caught
off guard and Barry being distracted by both Dr. Alchemy and his want to protect the people around
him, then Savitar might actually not be as fast as

to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) (2016). One of the symptoms associated
with autism is aggressive behavior presented outwardly toward others or as self injurious behavior.
Disruptive behaviors are often seen in the way of kicking, biting, hitting, and throwing objects,
which can result in injury to the child, parent, and increase parental stress level which can cause

There should be a public option available in health care and the government should have control
over the industry. Backing up a bit, what is wrong with the health care system in the first place to
cause such an enormous reform? Less than a hundred years ago, in the late 1920 s and 30 s, almost
90% of Americans did not have health insurance (Fall of HMO s 4). They used a variety of home
remedies and when medical assistance was truly needed, they paid for it out of pocket, even
incurring vast amounts of debt. This had been the case throughout history, and it changed due to
an important factor, medical equipment. The industrial revolution finally caught up with the
medical industry and the country saw a vast change in the scientific instruments used by
physicians. These instruments required a lot of money to make and care for which caused
prices to rise. Due to this massive problem, a committee was formed of health care professionals
and after a 5 year study, the Committee on the Cost of Medical Care suggested that health
insurance co operatives start. These corporate medical practices became known as Health

When it comes to learning, every student is different. Some kids are more outgoing than others.
Some like to move around alot, and others prefer to sit still. This is true whether you are a boy or

are better for everyone in the class, in reality women and men all live together, and kid can help

Studies have found that being with more girls is better for everyone. Prof. Schlosser concluded
that classes with more than 55 percent of girls resulted in better exam results and less violent

Plato Homosexual Love Essay
deal with concepts of homosexual love. Sappho, the only ancient Greek female author whose
work survived, talks from the female point of observation, whereas Plato s work concentrates on
the idea of love among males. Though both of their perspectives are similar in ways such as their
ideas of physical attraction and desire, Platos work creates a better understanding of the nature of
love then Sappho s ideas. This understanding will be shown with three arguments and counter
arguments in order to demonstrate the dominance of Plato over Sappho. It will than be concluded
with an overview of the main idea and a recap of the three arguments made for Plato.
In the symposium, Pausanias (Greek geographer) conveys the second part which talks about a few
of the societal standards representing gay (homoerotic) relationships. The way that a companion
(an older man) and his lover ( a younger man) may act towards each other is largely based on

Plato s work can be summarized by that the goal is essentially intellectual satisfaction, while
Sappho s objectives are directly linked with physical beauty and desire for physical attraction. Plato
s work provides a better understanding of love because the homoerotic relationship between an

Similarities Between To Kill A Mockingbird And Hamlet
Structuralism states that both Hamlet and Bob Ewell condemn themselves, as they are both
responsible for the deaths of innocent people (Polonius and Tom Robinson respectively.) Although
Hamlet is the protagonist in the play, contrasting with Bob Ewell being the villain in To Kill a
Mockingbird. The two texts show that, good or evil, the murder of an innocent person will create
chaos in a community and until it is resolved by the subsequent death of the murderer, the chaos
will continue. For instance in Hamlet, when Hamlet goes to speak with his mother after the play, he
believes Claudius is spying on them from behind a curtain. He stabs at the intruder without
verifying their identity and finds out it is not the King, but Polonius his right hand man.
HAMLET
What s this, a rat? I ll bet a buck he s a dead rat now.
(stabs his sword through the arras and kills POLONIUS)
POLONIUS
(from behind the arras) Oh, I am slain.
GERTRUDE
O me, what hast thou done?
HAMLET
Nay, I know not. Is it the king?
GERTRUDE
Oh, what a rash and bloody deed is this!
HAMLET
A bloody deed? Almost as bad, good mother,
As kill a king and marry with his brother.
Hamlet believes he is justified in killing Polonius although this is not true and dresses Ophelia
mad when she hears of her father s death. Although Hamlet s intention was to kill Claudius he
condemns himself in killing an innocent person. As a matter of fact, he is so driven to kill
Claudius he does not even know who he has killed. However, if the intruder had been Claudius,

The beneficial effect of meditation for people with chronic conditions is also proven by Chan

that meditation may result in significant improvements in anxiety, depression, and chronic disease
symptoms . Furthermore, they state that people with chronic diseases relate more positively with
their body, which is resulting in increased activity levels and improved quality of life (Chan Larson,

Greek and Roman Architechture
From the Parthenon to De Architectura written by the Roman Architect Vitruvius, major
developments in Architecture emerged from the Greeks from third century B.C. and by the
Romans up until early century A.D. from style, design, purpose, and innovative ideas. While
ranging from the Greeks emphasis on lighting and proportions, to the Romans who preferred big,
massive, and impressive structures such as the Coliseum in Rome and the Temple of Zeus in Athens
, both civilizations are a model even in today s world. When it comes to creating massive,
impressive, and near perfect architectural structures, the Greeks and Romans were some of the best.
But how impressive were these societies in a sense of Architecture? While the Greeks mainly
thrived culturally as well as architecturally speaking between the time period of 900 BC until the
1st century AD, some of the earliest structural works date back to 600 BC. The Greeks built
many structures during their time with the most produced and most well known being their
temples and theatres. The Greeks were one of the most fascinating civilizations back in the
ancient world. Two of the most important things in their eyes was worshiping and idolizing their
many gods and goddesses as well as their love for theatre. The Greeks believed that the gods
deserved a earthly home just as they do, which led to the construction of many temples, mostly
dedicated to one god/goddess apiece. One of their most well known temples today is the

James Bond Stereotypes
Dr. No (1962) and Rising Sun (1994) are heavy loaded with stereotypes. 32 years apart and for
sure appearance of Sean Connery has changed and stereotypes seem less striking but very present
in Rising Sun specially towards oriental people, women and Blacks. Fifty years ago, the release of
Dr. No, the famous fiction British master spy James Bondfilmstarring Sean Connery, launched one
of the longest running and most successful franchises in movie history. World needed a hero of
the cold war era and in real danger of nuclear war there was nothing to worry about so long as
Agent 007 was on the case. Bond was given a license to kill and to stereotype. As I watched first

No is half German and half Chinese a white Jewish actor plays him and it all seem very comical

portrayed as evil Nazi. The Vietnam War, which escalated soon after Kennedy s death was a
difficult time in American history where fear of the orient was still very real 20 years after
attack on Pearl Harbor. Around 150.000 Japanese US citizens were placed in camps during the
Second War World II. The evil character Dr.No rejected the authority and works for one purpose

uniform, his metal hand is a symbol of power and it is a hybrid between nature technology and
lack of humanity. In fact, in this movie, every Asian character with a substantial role is played by

Around America today football is one of the most favorable sports among men. Football starts
off for the youth with pee wee and pop warner leagues. Most fathers aspire for their children to be
great athletes. It would be a dream for a father s child to be considered the greatest player in college
football. The Heisman Trophy is given to the best player in college football. This award is given to
players who show great athletic excellence along with great character. Most quarterbacks who
receive the award normally pass for about 4,000 yards. The famous running back position only

Having a lot of prior knowledge about football helps you understand the history of some things.
John David Crow is the first person that comes to mind when I think about the Heisman Trophy.
Although Crow was a native from Marion in North Louisiana, he found his way west to Springhill.
Here at Springhill High School, he dominated throughout his career setting many records and
accomplishing multiple goals. Crow and his fellow teammates also won a state championship,
which was one of two that Springhill holds in football. With a dominating high school campaign
such as Crow had, there was no doubt college coaches from all over the country was trying to
sign him up at their university. Being a smart thinker of football, he decided to go play for the
legendary Paul Bear Bryant at Texas A M. To be one of the best, you have to play for one of the
best so you can get in a great system to be successful. John David Crow s senior season at Texas
A M was one that no one could ever forget. He was superman of the team because he did almost
everything. He ran the ball, caught the ball, caught interceptions for opposing offenses, and
tackled the opponents. After the season, Coach Paul Bear Bryant stated, If John David Crow
does not win the Heisman Trophy, they ought to stop giving it. () He was the first aggie to win it
and was also the only one of Bryant s players to win it. It does not matter where you are from,
anyone can accomplish the goal of winning the Heisman Trophy with hard work and

Comparing Xenophon s Testimony And Aristophanes
There are many differences between Xenophon s testimony and Aristophanes. Through the text we
learn that Socrates humiliated Aristophanes, therefore his negative description of Socrates might
not be true. On the other hand we have Xenophon s testimony of Socrates describing him as
helpful (Navia 48). We also learn that Xenophon was not that clever himself which may have lead
to why he idolized Socratesso much. The text states that Xenophon was a military man, not very
liberally endowed with brains and that his relationship with Socrates is comparable to that
between a stupid man and a clever man . (Navia 48) Xenophon clearly admired Socrates. He
thought of him as someone who is very wise, helpful, and that did not

Coyote Clan Kachina Doll Analysis
The sculptures Seated Couple, Vision of Lady Xoc, and Coyote Clan Kachina Doll, each represent
three distinct ancient cultures: the Dogon people of 18th and 19th century Mali, the Mayan culture
between 681 and 725 B.C.E, and the Zuni Pueblo Native American culture during the 19th century.
Each of these carved sculptures symbolizes truths universal to the humancondition. The Seated
Couple symbolizes the universal family unit. The Vision of Lady Xoc symbolizes blood sacrifice
for venerated ancestors and preparation of warriors for battle. The Coyote Clan Kachina Doll
symbolizes the power of troublesome spirits.

The Seated Couple the cylindrical and mostly symmetrical figures not only depict the attributes
of the Dogon family life, but also the pairing of male and female spirits in Dogon mythology and
the sexual duality that Dogon s see as a spiritual component of every individual. (Ezra) The Vision
of Lady Xoc is a portion of the monument to Lady Xoc depicting her power and importance in
YaxchilГЎn society. The shedding of royal blood was an act of supreme sacrifice to gain the gods
favor and thus perpetuate the cycle of human life. (Kerr) Kachina dolls are used as a teaching
device for children to cement the tribal stories learned in the oral tradition of their tribes. The dolls
and the kachina masks worn at festivals are a reminder to the people of all that each Kachina
represents.
Gender Roles are a significant theme in each of these sculptures. The Seated Couple depicts, men
and women working together as a unit, Dogon attitudes toward marriage as a partnership of
independent equals. This balanced duality is also a central tenet of Dogon mythology. ( Figure:
Seated Couple ) The Vision of Xoc shows that in royal Maya courts, women filled important civic
and religious roles denied to most women in many Mesoamerican cultures. (Martin and Grube) The
Zuni prized those who were good at both traditional male and female roles and those who produce
the crafts of both genders.

Analysis Of Lamb To The Slaughter By Mary Maloney
Insanely Innocent
Everyone does something at some point in their life that can be considered insane. Sometimes it s
simple things like trying a new food or a new hobby However, other times it can bit more extreme
such as stepping outside of the status quo or just simple committing a crime altogether. The story,
Lamb to the Slaughter by Roald Dahl depicts the life of Mary Maloney and the event of her killing
her husband. However, Mary Maloney is innocent due to reason of Insanity because she portrays
symptoms of a person with schizophrenia, the forced conformity of gender roles, and her over
attachment or jealousy for her husband.
Most of Roald Dahl s characters have a tendency to have an underlying trait to them. In this case,

This quote shows that since Mary has to previously rehearse what she is gonna say, she doesn t
have the normal cognitive and communication skills as others would.
Roald Dahl also plays with the gender role aspect of the 1950 s. The 1950 s were really focused
around the white picket fence perfect family. There was expected to be a mom and a dad with at
least one kid. The mom would stay home to cook and clean while the husband went off to work .
Once the husband returned home, they would sit down as one family and eat the meal the
woman prepared. Divorce was not a common thing and was a very unacceptable thing at this
time. In fact, the article 1950 s family life Michael Rich says, Divorce was not a common thing.
Why? Societal pressure for one thing. You were supposed to get married and stay married,
regardless of how miserable you were. Divorce carried a stigma... in the Fifties, a woman s best
chance at employment was in traditionally accepted women s jobs such as secretary, teacher,
nurse, librarian and so forth. So there was an economic incentive to stay married. However in
the story, Mr. Maloney completely goes against the social custom of not divorcing. On page 382
of Lamb to the Slaughter it says, And I know it s kind of a bad time to be telling you, but there
simply wasn t any other way. Of course I ll give you money and see you re

Pros And Disadvantages Of Asylum
I.Asylum is granted only in cases of political offences and not to common criminals.
II.Asylum is granted in accordance with the laws and usages of the state of refuge, and it is for the
latter to appreciate whether the offence committed by the refugee is a political offence or a

III.The territorial state may request the departure of the refugee from its territory and the state of

IV.The state which granted asylum sometimes, with the same end in view, requests that a safe

3. Caracas Convention (1954): The decision of the International Court Haya de la Torre led to some
dissatisfaction among Latin American countries. As such a conference was convened at Caracas in

Asylum on Humanitarian grounds: Asylum in a foreign embassy or legation is a subject which
affords a good illustration of the change and development of the rules of international law. In
modern times, it is asserted, the right to asylum, if it were generally recognized, would tend to
constitute an abuse. It would interfere with good government. The practice of asylum is even
looked on with a tolerant eye and the personnel of a foreign legation are not very glad to use this
right. To the diplomatic agent concerned the practice is nothing but a burden. But the practice is
defended on humanitarian grounds. Motives of humanity exclude a rigid refusal to receive a man
who may be in peril of his life, but the general rule now is to limit the reception of such political
refugees to cases where the person received is in instant or imminent personal

Cognitive Behavior Therapy
Cognitive Behavior Therapy
Developed by Dr. Aaron T. Beck, Cognitive Therapy (CT), or Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT),
is a form of psychotherapy in which the therapist and the client work together as a team to identify
and solve problems. Therapists help clients to overcome their difficulties by changing their
thinking, behavior, and emotional responses.
A System of Psychotherapy
Cognitive therapy is a comprehensive system of psychotherapy, and treatment is based on an
elaborated and empirically supported theory of psychopathology and personality. It has been found
to be effective in more than 400 outcome studies for a myriad of psychiatric disorders, including

The Goal of Cognitive Therapy
The goals of cognitive therapy are to help individuals achieve a remission of their disorder and to
prevent relapse. Much of the work in sessions involves aiding individuals in solving their real life
problems and teaching them to modify their distorted thinking, dysfunctional behavior, and
distressing affect. Therapists plan treatment on the basis of a cognitive formulation of patients
disorders and an ongoing individualized cognitive conceptualization of patients and their
difficulties. A developmental framework is used to understand how life events and experiences led
to the development of core beliefs, underlying assumptions, and coping strategies, particularly in
patients with personality disorders.
A strong therapeutic alliance is a key feature of cognitive therapy. Therapists are collaborative and
function as a team with patients. They provide rationales and seek patients agreement when
undertaking interventions. They make mutual decisions about how time will be spent in a session,
which problems will be discussed, and which homework assignments patients believe will be
helpful. They engage patients in a process of collaborative empiricism to investigate the validity of
the patient s thoughts and beliefs.
Cognitive therapy is educative, and patients are taught cognitive, behavioral, and emotional
regulation skills so they can, in essence, become their own therapists. This allows

The Influence Of The Internet
The internet was created to change way we work everyday. It has become the way we work, think,
and communicate to one another. Just about every job requires you to use the internet to get the job
done easier, and more efficiently. Without life these days would be extremely difficult. What is the
internet? The Internetis the global system of interconnected computer networks that use the Internet
protocol suiteto link devices worldwide. Who invented the internet? Two men by the names of
Robert E. Kahn and Vint Cerf are the creators of the internet. Why was the internet created? The
first workable prototype of the Internet came in the late 1960s with the creation of ARPANET, or
the Advanced Research Projects Agency Network. Originally funded by the U.S. Department of
Defense, ARPANET used packet switching to allow multiple computers to communicate on a
single network. (Andrew) Reason number one why the internet has changed our lives, is because
we as human beings are not patient enough. The internet allows us to contact others and get a
response sooner than we would if we were to write a letter and put it through the mail system. The
internet can bring us entertainment, Information, and the insight faster than anything, but the
quickness of the information hurt us; in fact, Most people have lost their patients with society,
because they are used to the way they gather information from the internet, and are not able to be
patient when the internet is not able to deliver

The Effects Of Obesity On The United States
An epidemic is happening in the United States of America; obesity is on the rise. The United
States is currently is second in the world s most obese countries with more than two thirds of
adults being overweight ( Overweight and Obesity Statistics ). Countermeasures to promote a
healthier living style are on the rise, also. For instance, Michelle Obama s Let s Move program
promotes eating healthy food and increasing exercise. The NFL promotes sixty minutes of play
for children each day to promote healthier living and establishing an active lifestyle. However,
the one area of healthy living promotion is lacking and that is food information. The United
States must change their source of food information; the food label must be changed. Currently
the food label is inaccurate, loose in regulations, and hard to read. By changing the food label to
an easier, clearer, and more accessible source of information, then the American public will have
easier access to information. Furthermore, the American public will have an easier time
choosing healthier options towards food. First off, in order to revise the food label, we need to
understand how it is supposed to work. The food label was develop, and is currently regulated by
the Food and Drug Administration since 1993 (Rosso Grossman, Food Labels ). The food label is
currently has four requirements. The first is the principal display panel. This is in the front of the

First, the Moderating Role of Openness to Experience, meaning that open individuals tend to enact
or perform successful conflict resolution strategies. In addition, they developed a hypothesis that
the average level of a team s openness to experience moderates the relationship between task

to performance and when open ness is low, task conflict will negatively relate to performance.
Second, The Moderating Role of Emotional Stability, in other words the tendency an individual has

  • 2. A comparison of the respiration of yeast in different... Biology Fermentation Practical A comparison of the respiration of yeast in different sugar substrates Aim: The aim was to compare the respiration of yeast in different substrates of sugars, i.e. between a monosaccharide (glucose) and a disaccharide (maltose) Theory: There are three types of Carbohydrates, monosaccharides, disaccharides, and polysaccharides. The two, which I will be looking at, are, monosaccharide (glucose) and the disaccharide (maltose) Classification and major properties of carbohydrates GroupPropertiesExamples Monosaccharides general formula:(CH20)n(n = 3 to 0)Small molecules with low molecular mass; sweet tasting; crystalline; readily soluble in water.Trioses, e.g. glyceraldehyde (C3H603)Hexoses e.g. glucose, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Breaking this bond would slow the rate of CO2 produced in the respiration of yeast with the disaccharide in comparison to the monosaccharide. My hypothesis can be justified by the way in which yeast digests with the chosen sugars. Yeast is a single celled fungus, most in the class of Ascomycetes. The Ascomycetes yeasts include the common bread, beer, and wine producing varieties of Saccharomyces Cereviseae. As yeast is a fungus and possesses no chlorophyll, it would be unable to photosynthesise. Therefore the yeast must obtain its carbohydrates by secreting enzymes onto the surface on which it is growing. In the case of glucose and maltose, these enzymes are zymase and maltase. Maltose requires the specific maltase enzyme to first hydrolyse the glycosidic bond in between the glucose subunits of maltose before the zymase enzyme can break down the two ГЎ glucose monomers from maltose. However glucose only requires the zymase enzyme to be broken down into ethanol and CO2, maltose. As the glycosidic bond needs to be hydrolysed in maltose to form two monomers of glucose, and additionally two enzymes are needed to break down maltose, is the reason why I think that the rate of CO2 produced by the respiration of yeast will be ... • 6. A Brief Note On Maple Syrup One thing Canada is known for is their maple syrup. Canada s maple syrup has always been a part of the culture. From being taught how to harvest sap from the immense amount of maple trees, boil it and turn it into one of Canada s main foods, Canadian maple syrup has always been in demand. To produce one gallon of maple syrup, on average, 40 gallons of sap is needed. In 2007, 6.7 million pounds of maple syrup were exported to the United States alone, so a lot of resources, in this case, trees, are needed.[Pure Canada Maple] Maple syrup can be used for many things, although it is often paired with pancakes, waffles, or French toast, it is also used to top oatmeal or porridge. Other uses of maple syrup are ingredients in baking and as a flavouring agent. Canada produces 71 percent of the world pure maple syrup, this percentage however continues to increase. Out of that percentage, 91 percent is produced in the province of Quebec. Although Quebec produces most of Canada s maple syrup, Ontario, New Brunswick, P.E.I and Nova Scotia produce maple syrup as well.[ibid] With more than 8600 maple syrup businesses in Canada, the infamous Canadian maple syrup is exported to around 50 countries.[ibid] From when the Algonquians found syrup and used simple tools to extract sap from maple trees, until now, the process has not changed much. An important note is that not many regions have the natural resources of maple trees, to be able to produce the product themselves. Canada, however, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Differences in Geometry Essay Differences in Geometry Geometry is the branch of mathematics that deals with the properties of space. Geometry is classified between two separate branches, Euclidean and Non Euclidean Geometry. Being based off different postulates, theorems, and proofs, Euclidean Geometry deals mostly with two dimensional figures, while Demonstrative, Analytic, Descriptive, Conic, Spherical, Hyperbolic, are Non Euclidean, dealing with figures containing more than two dimensions. The main difference between Euclidean, and Non Euclidean Geometry is the assumption of how many lines are parallel to another. Spherical Geometry is also the most commonly used Non Euclidean geometry, being used by astronomers, pilots, and ship captains. In Euclidean geometry it is stated that the sum of the angles in a triangle are equal to 180 #61616;. As for Spherical geometry it is stated that the sum of the angles in a triangle are always greater than 180 #61616;. When most people try and visualize a triangle containing angle sums greater than 180 #61616; they say it s impossible. A sphere is a set of points in three dimensional space equidistant from a point called the center of the sphere. The distance from the center to the points on the sphere is called the radius. See Appendix 1 2 to visualize tangents, lines, and centers between the sphere, lines, and planes. Unlike standard Euclidean Geometry, in Spherical Geometry, radians are used to replace degree measures. It is usual for most people to measure angles and such with degrees, as for scientists, engineers, and mathematicians, radians are used to substitute degree measures. The size of a radian is determined by the requirement that there are 2pi radians in a circle. Thus 2pi radians equals 360 degrees. This means that 1 radian = ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. What Native Peoples Deserve Essay What Native Peoples Deserve The article What Native Peoples Deserve by Roger Sandall talks about the Roosevelt Indian Reservation in the Amazon rain forest. The Roosevelt Indian Reservation is situated on the world s current largest deposit of diamonds and no one in the government, the local Indians and the diamond diggers want the diamonds left in the ground. However, the laws in Brazil make it impossible for anyone to begin digging there. Because of the strict laws governing the extraction of the diamonds, it has lead to the region becoming saturated in blood, murder and mayhem. According to the 2005 article, Mr. Sandall said that the massacre of Cinta Larga Indians by rubber tappers in 1963 was the caused by diamonds, not rubber. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Only then did the world turn its attention to the Amazon rain forest. Since the 2004 slaughter of the twenty nine miners and murder of the man who tried to quell the conflict, several laws have gone into effect to get the Cinta Larga Indians back their land and make it illegal for mining to be done on the Cinta Larga Indian reservation. According to the article, the Figueiredo Report was established after the massacre in 1963 to deal with the shockingly grave deficiencies and abuses that were then being tolerated by the Indian Protection Service, including the use of individual Indians as slaves (Angeloni 230). Now that the Certificate of the Kimberley Process was passed in 2006, it has made it illegal for anyone to ship rough diamonds out of the country that d been dug out from areas that are protected. It is both interesting and horrifying to be learning about a culture being depleted and wiped out just because they are situated on top of a large diamond deposit that greedy people want to exploit. The diamond mining is the leading cause of all the bloodshed, murder and mayhem in the region. Since the Certificate of the Kimberley Process was passed, it has made it illegal to ship diamonds out of the country that have been extracted from areas of conflict or those that aren t approved by the National Department of Mineral ... • 10. A Scar to Remember New York City, summer of 2007, I got out of the car and inhaled the stale air. I rushed to the entrance with my luggage and opened the door of the washed out red sky high building. After my family and I entered the building and we serenely walked over to the elevator and I pushed the button until it flashed luminous red. I was thrilled I was going to see my cousins after such a long time. The last time we were together was when I used to live there. We moved to Massachusetts when I was two years old. I was wondering what this place had in store for me and if this is going to be the best summervacation or not. But what will happen to me became a scar that will always be with me forever. The bell went off and the elevator doors opened on the sixth floor. I took a left and went straight until I saw the door that opened to their apartment. I knocked on the door extremely exhilarated feelinglike my head would pop off my neck. When my aunt unlocked and opened up the door, she saw us and was utterly shocked. SURPRISE! She came out of the apartment and gave all of us a hug as well as our cousins and after welcomed us into their home. My cousin asks me Why did you suddenly come to New York? I verbalized Why you don t want us here? She then replied No that is not what I meant. We traveled here because as you know it is summer break and we thought about visiting you and, wanted to give you a massive surprise. The last day of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Most people were ready for something different and that is what the 1980s presented. It became eccentric with music and fashion from Madonna and Cyndi Lauper, bands like Guns n Roses and Metallica, Reagan s changes to the economy, Nintendo, and bright colors and big hair. The impact of this decade continues on in today s society. There are school dances oriented towards this decade, the music of the 1980s time can still be heard on the radio, movies of today make references of the movies of the 1980s, and Nintendo has grown much bigger since then. Introduction Water shortage has been a worrisome problem facing the world. We mostly live in water rich countries washing dishes, watering plants and taking a shower, it s hard to imagine or realize there will be inadequate water supply for the world one day. Water is a finite resource such that the amount of fresh water supply provided by the hydrological cycle will not increase. Therefore, pollution lowers the quality of water and reduces the amount of water available for use. d. Poor water management Although the supply of water in the world is limited, water shortage can still be avoided by better water management. However, some responsible agency did not take proper actions to conserve water. For example, water leakages are not properly prevented with regular maintenance of water containers and water distribution systems. Also, the number of water tankers or any other water related facilities are not adequate to store water for future use and the sewage treatment system is not well operated and supervised to prevent water being contaminated by pollutants and water can be reused. Fines should be imposed on anyone who wastes this precious source on other unnecessary areas as well as industries which continuously emit toxic substances to pollute water in order to punish them for the misuse of water and educate them to conserve water. Dams or other constructions should also be built to reduce flooding. After all, poor water management will speed up the occurrence of water shortage and become a threat of our life to us. e. Anti obesity effects of polyunsaturated fatty acids Introduction In recent years, obesity has become a significant health problem in industrialized countries such as the United States. Obesity is strongly associated with increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes mellitus, hypertension, dyslipidemia, coronary heart disease, and congestive heart failure. The World Health Organization has defined obesity as one of the top ten global health problems. The cardioprotective effects of supplementing DHA and EPA are well documented; they have been shown to reduce total serum triacylglycerol concentrations, blood pressure, platelet aggregation, and inflammation (Breslow 2006; Richter 2003). Far fewer studies have focused on the anti obesity effects of DHA and EPA. One of the major flaws with the Copernican system manifested with the retainment of perfect circular orbits, as theorized by Ptolemy, and even with the removal of the equant, Copernicus still had to use some epicycles to explain retrograde. This still left many issues, because this very unnatural movement didn t make it that much less clunky than Ptolemy s system. Johannes Kepler, with his first law of planetary motion, provided a solution for this issue. He theorized that planets actually move in an elliptic orbit, with the sunnot necessarily at the very center of the ellipse. When taken in account with Copernicus idea of the Earth s rotation, this got rid of the need for epicycles, and provided a much smoother system. In addition,... Firstly, the heliocentric system driven by Copernicus disproved the ideas of two, powerful, and at the time, most valid sources, the Ancient world and the Catholic Church. This opened up questioning and curiosity of many other aspects of humanity in the centuries that followed, and in parallel to this the rejection of the theological idea that man has dominance in the universe (SECOND GALE SOURCE). This curiosity led to so many great discoveries across the course of the entire revolution, from chemistry, to calculus, and even biology. Even though heliocentrism occurred as an astronomical endeavor, it by itself influenced the development so many ideas not just used in astronomy. Newton s laws of physics would never have been possible if not for the heliocentric system to back it up, and in fact, nearly all of Kepler s, Newton s, and Galileo s work described above built on Copernicus ideas. Before the romantic period, there were various other periods like old English literature, middle English literature, English renaissance, neo classical period etc. From the beginning we notice that there is an imbalance between the male and female authors. Male writers are found more than the female writers. This imbalance is also found in the romantic literature. • 25. Reflective Essay On Gender Discrimination It was October 1965 we moved to Douglas and lived in a pallid apartment building downtown, as it was all I could afford. Although it small, the town encompassed the loud personality of stereotypical families who had opinions on everything and everyone. The frail, dying leaves obfuscated the path down Lincoln Avenue where I walked, glancing at the nebulous clouds drift through the sky. At eight this morning, I dropped off my two children, Evelynn and Paul, at their elementary school and walked to Jefferson Regional Hospital where I worked my morning shift. I then realized that my disregarded wallet lay on my kitchen table, and began the trek home to grab it. The breeze blew by me as I continued and cars drove down the avenue. It was a gorgeous day; nature casting a chimera, hiding away oncoming troubles. Gender discrimination, a visibly trackable occurrence through time, can be traced through my own lineage. Although it recedes far into the past, its virulent hands seep into our future grasping, gripping, pulverizing the progress of thousands before us. The stigmatization of divorced women in the 1960 s is rarely addressed as the egregious discrimination that it was. And still is. In July, visited my Oregon and spent three days with my grandmother, Charlotte Carter. Unaware of her former struggles, I was saddened to learn of the discrimination she faced trying to survive as a divorced, single mother with two children. My newfound appreciation for this loving woman grows each and every time I see how she raised two compassionate, caring children despite the accusation from the world. My mother, Charlotte s daughter, has given me the inspiration to tell this story in a hope to diminish the prejudice we all carry for strangers. The preceding is a powerful statement from the newly elected President Barak Obama. One of the main aspects of both political campaigns was health care reform. The above quote shows passion and encouragement, but the quotes about health care do not end there. There should be a public option available in health care and the government should have control over the industry. Backing up a bit, what is wrong with the health care system in the first place to cause such an enormous reform? Less than a hundred years ago, in the late 1920 s and 30 s, almost 90% of Americans did not have health insurance (Fall of HMO s 4). They used a variety of home remedies and when medical assistance was truly needed, they paid for it out of pocket, even incurring vast amounts of debt. This had been the case throughout history, and it changed due to an important factor, medical equipment. The industrial revolution finally caught up with the medical industry and the country saw a vast change in the scientific instruments used by physicians. These instruments required a lot of money to make and care for which caused prices to rise. Due to this massive problem, a committee was formed of health care professionals and after a 5 year study, the Committee on the Cost of Medical Care suggested that health insurance co operatives start. These corporate medical practices became known as Health Maintenance Organizations (HMO s) and preferred provider organizations (PPO s), and up until the 1970 s, were an experiment to regions across the U.S. Factors that hindered health care included bullying of money politics from both sides of the isle as well as Presidential views and tactics as well. Sappho, the only ancient Greek female author whose work survived, talks from the female point of observation, whereas Plato s work concentrates on the idea of love among males. Though both of their perspectives are similar in ways such as their ideas of physical attraction and desire, Platos work creates a better understanding of the nature of love then Sappho s ideas. This understanding will be shown with three arguments and counter arguments in order to demonstrate the dominance of Plato over Sappho. It will than be concluded with an overview of the main idea and a recap of the three arguments made for Plato. In the symposium, Pausanias (Greek geographer) conveys the second part which talks about a few of the societal standards representing gay (homoerotic) relationships. Similarities Between To Kill A Mockingbird And Hamlet Structuralism states that both Hamlet and Bob Ewell condemn themselves, as they are both responsible for the deaths of innocent people (Polonius and Tom Robinson respectively.) Although Hamlet is the protagonist in the play, contrasting with Bob Ewell being the villain in To Kill a Mockingbird. The two texts show that, good or evil, the murder of an innocent person will create chaos in a community and until it is resolved by the subsequent death of the murderer, the chaos will continue. For instance in Hamlet, when Hamlet goes to speak with his mother after the play, he believes Claudius is spying on them from behind a curtain. He stabs at the intruder without verifying their identity and finds out it is not the King, but Polonius his right hand man. HAMLET What s this, a rat? I ll bet a buck he s a dead rat now. (stabs his sword through the arras and kills POLONIUS) POLONIUS (from behind the arras) Oh, I am slain. GERTRUDE O me, what hast thou done? HAMLET Nay, I know not. Is it the king? GERTRUDE Oh, what a rash and bloody deed is this! HAMLET A bloody deed? Almost as bad, good mother, As kill a king and marry with his brother. Hamlet believes he is justified in killing Polonius although this is not true and dresses Ophelia mad when she hears of her father s death. Although Hamlet s intention was to kill Claudius he condemns himself in killing an innocent person. As a matter of fact, he is so driven to kill Claudius he does not even know who he has killed.
