The purpose of Total Quality Management is to increase customer satisfaction by improving the
quality of the goods or services offered by the organization. This improvement is centered on the
product or services, and the processes involved in making or delivering the product or service to the
customer. Ultimately the goal of TQM is to make quality the way of doing things within the
organization.
4. EFFECTIVENESS CRITERIA:
In all Total Quality Management programs the ultimate effectiveness criterion is customer
satisfaction. According to the research, to reach this ultimate goal of effectiveness requires that the
organization measure several other criteria on a continual basis (Weaver, 1991; Hackman &
Wageman, 1995; Dahlgaard, 1999; Clark, 2000). The appropriate criteria to measure depends on the
type of organization, and whether they deliver a product or a service. In a production–based

organization, the effectiveness criteria are divided into product measures and employee measures.
The possible measures for the product include: increases in production, increases in sales, increases
in market share, increases in stock prices, reductions in the product cycle time, reductions in the
number of reworks, reductions in the inventories, and reductions in customer returns. The employee

mother of a teen killed in a texting and driving accident. "She wanted to take on the world, and she
would have." Taylor was killed going 80 plus miles an hour on I–84 when she hit a tank truck that
was rounding the corner at 15 mph in the opposite lane. "I think she was probably (texting) to stay
awake, she was probably tired," said Clay Sauer, Taylor's father. Texting and driving ruined this
young girl's life, causing a huge impact in the lives of her loved ones. Each year, thousands of
people are severely injured or die in car accidents that are caused by cell phone use while operating
a motorized vehicle. People need to put their phones aside while they are driving because when
people use their phones their attention is not focused on the road, more unnecessary deaths occur,
there is a higher risk of accidents, and insurance rates sky rocket. Texting and driving is dangerous
because when our attention is focused on the messages that pop up on our phones we cannot focus
on the road and are unaware of our surroundings. According to LA Times, people who text and drive

techniques to monitor HP reporters and directors leading the HP director Patrician Dunn to admit

It is my belief that the attachment of positive interpretations to the tragedy and horror of the Joplin
tornado, and the repetition of such themes through continuous narration, directly affected
community ethos. This, in turn, helped further select the features of the collective narrative shared
with the nation through national news. The national attention to Joplin, spurred those wanting to
help in the wake of such devastation and those in admiration of the community's own resilience to
volunteer time and resources to the recovery effort. Cast as an all–American city in the Heartland of
the nation, the positive ethos and determination demonstrated by Joplin citizens transformed the
community's identity from a virtually–unknown place in Missouri to a symbol of the nation, a
transformation further encouraged through the wording of public statements by President Obama
and Governor Nixon as well as featuring Joplin on Extreme Makeover: Home Edition and other

These effects are all common in the world today, even without war being the cause, many
