The Influence Of Reality TV On American Culture
How has reality TV affected the way people view other forms of entertainment? A very popular
network called VH1, is one of the various networks that have transformed the true meaning of
entertainment by its presentations of reality shows.VH1 has contributed in the decline of music
perceptions by switching from music to a strictly reality TV basis. Reality TV is the lowest form of
entertainment; it idolizes ignorance, depicts peoples' misfortune, and encourages stereotypes. The
reputation of televised music has been damaged by VH1's newfound reality TV show fame. VH1 is
an American cable television network established in New York City (Wikipedia). The initials of the
name, VH1, stands for Video Hits 1. Originally in 1985, their goal was to ... Show more content on

Their reality shows are built on the beliefs of absurd stereotypes. One of the network's reality TV
shows that receive plenty dismissive remarks is VH1's Love and Hip Hop, all three sequels
included. Whether using music in these shows is respectful, for the network, being sufficient or not
is another thing. In these shows, VH1 has a vast array of minority stereotypes and their involvement
in the industry of music. At several moments in each show, music is soon eliminated and the pivot is
blanketed by catty women, sex scandals, and pure disrespect. The women in these shows give the
impression that females can never be in the same room together without drinks and hair weave
flying. Alongside, the males impersonate womanizing egos, children abandonment, relationship
unfaithfulness, and lack of self–respect as well. Males and females patently obliterate each other's
self–images, thus proving the stereotypes to be

incorporation of commercial content into noncommercial settings, that is, a product plug generated

(Panda, 2004; Cebrzynski, 2006) That is, product placement in popular mass media provides
exposure to potential target consumers and shows brands being used or consumed in their natural

In short, TQM programs require a change in the organizational philosophy and culture.
3. PURPOSE OF THE INTERVENTION:
The purpose of Total Quality Management is to increase customer satisfaction by improving the
quality of the goods or services offered by the organization. This improvement is centered on the
product or services, and the processes involved in making or delivering the product or service to the
customer. Ultimately the goal of TQM is to make quality the way of doing things within the
organization.
4. EFFECTIVENESS CRITERIA:
In all Total Quality Management programs the ultimate effectiveness criterion is customer
satisfaction. According to the research, to reach this ultimate goal of effectiveness requires that the
organization measure several other criteria on a continual basis (Weaver, 1991; Hackman &
Wageman, 1995; Dahlgaard, 1999; Clark, 2000). The appropriate criteria to measure depends on the
type of organization, and whether they deliver a product or a service. In a production–based
organization, the effectiveness criteria are divided into product measures and employee measures.
The possible measures for the product include: increases in production, increases in sales, increases
in market share, increases in stock prices, reductions in the product cycle time, reductions in the
number of reworks, reductions in the inventories, and reductions in customer returns. The employee
measures include: satisfaction with the company,

Texting and Driving Accidents
Texting and Driving "(Taylor) just loved everybody and was an amazing friend," said Shauna Sauer,
mother of a teen killed in a texting and driving accident. "She wanted to take on the world, and she
would have." Taylor was killed going 80 plus miles an hour on I–84 when she hit a tank truck that
was rounding the corner at 15 mph in the opposite lane. "I think she was probably (texting) to stay
awake, she was probably tired," said Clay Sauer, Taylor's father. Texting and driving ruined this
young girl's life, causing a huge impact in the lives of her loved ones. Each year, thousands of
people are severely injured or die in car accidents that are caused by cell phone use while operating
a motorized vehicle. People need to put their phones aside while they are driving because when
people use their phones their attention is not focused on the road, more unnecessary deaths occur,
there is a higher risk of accidents, and insurance rates sky rocket. Texting and driving is dangerous
because when our attention is focused on the messages that pop up on our phones we cannot focus
on the road and are unaware of our surroundings. According to LA Times, people who text and drive
are 23 times more likely to be involved in an accident. Associated Press of The LA Times
mentioned, "We all agree that things like taking your eyes off the road are dangerous." The
popularity of mobile devices is increasing, and with the press of social media and instant messaging

The Effects Of Neoliberal Ideals On The Portrayal Of Class
The Effect of Neoliberal Ideals on the Portrayal of Class in Reality TV Over the past two decades,
reality TV has become an increasingly popular genre of media and a staple in entertainment culture.
As reality TV has continued to grow, scholars have become interested in examining the societal
effects of the messages that it promotes. Thus, scholarly research in the genre of reality TV
examines how the use of neoliberal ideals affects the portrayal of socioeconomic class. This field of
study was first founded in the research of neoliberalism's presence within the media and reality TV.
As time has passed, many scholars have narrowed their examination to the portrayal of
socioeconomic class that results from the promotion of neoliberal ... Show more content on

Unlike George Mantsios, Rennels and Edwards focused their work specifically on reality TV. Each
author completed case studies of individual reality TV shows; yet they came to the same conclusion
that reality TV presents the poor as individuals, or singular families, that can overcome poverty by
working hard and adopting traditional "puritan–esque" values. Here Comes Honey Boo focuses on a
southern working–class white family and intentionally emphasizes their lazy lifestyle as well as
unconventional behaviors, which implies that their unorthodox lifestyle has lead to their state of
poverty (Rennels). Outside of the United States, scholars such as Annabel Tremlett have studied the
ways in which class has played into the representation of marginalized minorities, specifically the
Gypsy community, in reality TV. Big Fat Gypsy Wedding, "glosses over social conditions and
ignores potential for social and cultural change" (Tremlett 324). The immense poverty found within
the Gypsy community is attributed to negative aspects of their culture rather than systemic
oppression. Narratives in which the men are "drinking and fighting" while the women are
"oppressed housewives" are common plotlines that contribute to enforcing Gypsies "otherness" as a
reason for their poverty (Tremlett 327). On the other hand, shows such as Extreme Makeover: Home

ADHD: The Troubles, The Triumphs
Conor Crowley 1/15/15 ADHD: The Tears, The Troubles, The Triumphs In Dedication and Apology
to Mary Scimone, Trumbull High School, and all it's Denizens By Conor Francis Crowley ADHD is
a very different beast, to be perfectly frank. You may have heard whispers and statements on how it
leads to 'hyperactivity' and 'impulsiveness,' but it goes a little bit beyond an overzealous person.
Sometimes, you say words you don't exactly mean, words that come out of your mouth that you
instantly wish to take back and erase. This innate fear is justified, as I have come to fear
incarceration for saying the wrong thing. Now you may be well aware of the dos and don'ts of a
human's sentence memory, but for kids with Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, the lines can
be a bit more blurred. In fact, you could be arrested for "hate speech," intentional or not; according
to Doctor Barbara and Fletcher, it's a good 22.5% chance that you could be arrested if you have
ADHD. That scary... but even then, there's a chance. There's a chance that you don't even have to
worry about it, provided you know what to say. There is a chance, and there always will, that you
could rise above your disabilities and become something greater; something I strive to do, now that I
saw the gravity of my decisions. And before I go onto this long discussion about ADHD, it's tears,
it's troubles, and it's triumphs, I'd like to state something. If your name is Mary Scimone, Tony

Since the café is located near the Courthouse district and located on a busy corner lot with only one

differential advantage strategy in moving forward to offer new services and products to our existing
and new customers, which we feel that will be beneficial in making this transition. Part 2
Developing an EBusiness Strategy There is an emerging ebusiness market that Broadway Café has
to catch up with and in doing so, it will begin by first creating an assessment and assembling a team
of employees, who may have the knowledge (cost saving method) to draft ideas and present for final
review. The ebusiness model as defined by Baltzan (2009), indicated that it is an approach to
conducting electronic business on the internet. Therefore, by launching an e–business, Broadway
Café will have an opportunity to leverage it current assets, its customers. To follow in this
opportunity will be the employees, technology infrastructure, and information to gain and maintain
market share. Broadway Café will be able to offer customers electronic payments for products or
services, employees will have an opportunity to enter a code to identifying signing in and out
procedures for time clocks and transactions. Broadway Café customers will no longer have to place

Basically, there are three different groups: companies that specialize in luxury products, companies
with prestige department store products, and companies with inexpensive products. The first
category includes companies such as Guerlain, Givenchy and La Prairie. The products in this
category are normally very expensive and are based on the top of the line technology. The second
category is constituted of companies such as Lancôme, Elizabeth Arden, and Helena
Rubinstein. The companies are known for their high quality products and large R&D expenditures.
The third category consists of companies such as Cover Girl, Revlon, and Maybelline. The target
market for this category is teenagers with the main focus on fashionable, trendy aspects (i.e. colors
and shininess).
The pie chart shown below breaks down the cosmetics sales by division. The focus of our industry

According to some analysts, the future growth in the cosmetics industry will come mainly from the

Product Placement
Product placement, or embedded marketing, is a form of advertisement, where branded goods or
services are placed in a context usually devoid of ads, such as movies, the story line of television
shows, or news programs. The product placement is often not disclosed at the time that the good or
service is featured. Product placement became common in the 1980s.
In April 2006, Broadcasting & Cable reported, "Two thirds of advertisers employ 'branded
entertainment'–product placement–with the vast majority of that (80%) in commercial TV
programming." The story, based on a survey by the Association of National Advertisers, said

For the next film in the James Bond franchise, Tomorrow Never Dies, Sortito created a $100 million
promotional campaign that included tie–ins with BMW, Visa, L'Oréal, Ericsson, Heineken, Avis, and
Omega SA. The film brought in more than $300 million dollars.[17]
A recent example is HBO's Sex and the City (1998–2004), where the plot revolved around, among
other things, Absolut Vodka, a campaign upon which one of the protagonists was working, and a
billboard in Times Square, where a bottle prevented an image of the model from being
pornographic. Knight Rider (1982–1986), a television series featuring a talking Pontiac Trans Am, is
another example of brand integration.
The earliest example of product placement in a computer or video game occurs in Action Biker
(1984) for Skips crisps, a product by KP Snacks. Video games, such as Crazy Taxi (1999), feature
real retail stores as game destinations. However, sometimes the economics are reversed and video–
game makers pay for the rights to use real sports teams and players. Today, product placement in
online video is also becoming common. Online agencies are specializing in connecting online video
producers, which are usually individuals, with brands and advertisers.

What Happened On My Birthday?
When a person´s birthday comes around does he/she ever wonder what happened on his/her birthday
before he/she was even thought of? Do they ever wonder about the special events that happened on
that day besides their birth? I was astonished to have found out how much had happened on October
19. I was born on October 19, 2000. My parents are Billy and Teresa Summerlin. I was born in
Mission Hospital on a Thursday morning. It was fifty– eight degrees and it was dark outside. My
doctor was Dr. David Cobb, and he said that I was a miracle baby. I weighed four pounds and
thirteen ounces because I wasn't getting the nutrition that I needed because the umbilical cord was
wrapped around my stomach, and I couldn't breathe well. My grandmother had a gallbladder attack
the same day I was born and was also put in the hospital. My family said that I looked like a naked
squirrel when I was born. My first name, Alexis is a greek name that means defender or helper. My
last name, Summerlin is a scottish name that means mariner, viking, or wander. On October 19,
2012 the statue ¨Big Tex" was destroyed by fire during the State Fair of Texas. Another thing that
happened on my birthday was that Henry Ford made his first radio speech in 1932. One thing that
interested me the most was in 1960, Martin Luther King Jr. was arrested at an Atlanta sit–in at ¨The
Magnolia Room¨ On this day, 52 protesters, including King, were arrested for violating legislation.

The Issue Of Mineral Rights Essay
As a first–time homebuyer in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, I thought I had very carefully prepared
myself for all that the process would involve, including gathering income and financial
documentation, qualifying for a mortgage, arranging for a thorough inspection, evaluating needs and
desires from a home and finding a reputable agent to represent my interests. One area I never
considered, however, was the issue of mineral rights. To be perfectly honest, although I 'd heard the
term, I 'd never given consideration to what it actually meant. But that all changed in the middle of
my home buying process – and I 'd like to share with you the knowledge I 've gained through
extensive research I completed to protect my own rights and the rights I would possess as a soon–
to–be homeowner. According to property law, two different forms of rights exist in any real
property: surface rights and mineral rights. Surface rights refer to any structure erected above the
surface or sub–surface structures that do not exceed a certain depth, as well as rights to use all
surface property surrounding structures in accordance with zoning ordinances. Mineral rights refer
to mineral substances below a certain depth and the way in which they are preserved, explored or
extracted. These mineral substances can include natural gas, oil, or any other substance in common
use today that can be mined or otherwise extracted from below the surface. Local laws set the depth

The Media 's Influence On The Public 's Perceptions Of...
With continued saturation of media channels in today's world, it's no wonder that our personal ideals
are often affected by the portrayals depicted on television. In this paper I will examine how the
media, in particular reality television (RTV), often provides a simplistic and stereotypical ideal of
wealth and well–being. I intend to demonstrate that the political ideologies reinforced by the images
created in reality TV can be damaging and misleading to the public perception, often running
counter to the statistical reality. Through a review of specific programs and research, I will establish
that these shows are subconsciously influencing the public's perceptions of wealth and happiness.

By looking at a number of examples including the reality TV shows The Shahs of Sunset and
Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, I seek to uncover what ideologies and issues are really at play
behind the slick television productions. Since the proliferation of cable television and subsequent
technological advances including colour, satellite, digital, Smart, and now even 3D TV, television
has become a dominant force in our lifestyles. It has physically entrenched itself in our homes and
psychologically engrained itself in our minds. As such, television has become an important tool "for
integrating individuals into the social order, celebrating dominate values, and offering models of
thought and behaviour for imitations (Winslow p. 268). Television is the medium or tool, but the
programming or shows represents the pervasive messaging. The latest genre of TV shows to rise to
popularity is that of the ironically named reality TV, which actually bears little resemble to real life.
These reality shows pretend to depict the everyday life of "ordinary" people, but are often carefully
scripted and manipulated versions of the truth, serving to reinforce social stereotypes and political
ideologies. "Reality television (RTV) is a specific culmination of this long history, taking the powers
of transformation to a new level by embedding them in everyday life" (Winslow 268). This can

Reality TV Is A Main Media In Reality Television
Television is a main media in today's society, the majority of people in America watch television.
There are so many different genres of television, you can watch so many different things. The focus

reality television, their are many, but they all can be mainly put into seven subcategories:
documentary/ docu–series, makeover/ renovation, competition/ elimination, dating, hidden camera,
supernatural, travel/ aspirational. Each one is different with the same concept. Reality television in
the 20th century is very popular. People are so drawn to these shows because they show people a
version of their own reality. Documentary/ docu–series in reality television are not really
documentaries, they act as they would be one but in a series. The difference between documentaries
and a docu–series is that documentaries are often restricted to one episode, docu–series span a series

Integrated Marketing Communications
Integrated Marketing Communications is a simple concept. It ensures that all forms of
communications and messages are carefully linked together.
At its most basic level, Integrated Marketing Communications, or IMC, as we 'll call it, means
integrating all the promotional tools, so that they work together in harmony.
Promotion is one of the Ps in the marketing mix. Promotions has its own mix of communications
tools.
All of these communications tools work better if they work together in harmony rather than in
isolation. Their sum is greater than their parts – providing they speak consistently with one voice all

This may also confuse, frustrate and arouse anxiety in customers. On the other hand, integrated
communications present a reassuring sense of order.
Consistent images and relevant, useful, messages help nurture long term relationships with
customers. Here, customer databases can identify precisely which customers need what information
when... and throughout their whole buying life.
Finally, IMC saves money as it eliminates duplication in areas such as graphics and photography
since they can be shared and used in say, advertising, exhibitions and sales literature. Agency fees
are reduced by using a single agency for all communications and even if there are several agencies,
time is saved when meetings bring all the agencies together – for briefings, creative sessions,
tactical or strategic planning. This reduces workload and subsequent stress levels – one of the many
benefits of IMC.

Corporate Governance Benchmarking
Businesses in today's society must be aggressive and competitive to meet the demands of
consumers. The corporate culture must be one of shared beliefs with expectations and values that

organization's success depends on profitability and productivity, the magnitude of success or failure
can be controlled by a few bad apples within the organization. Organizations capable of misleading,

the leaders should define the roles of management in corporate governance by communicating.
MFSI is similar to HP's unethical practices of running the organization through lack of effective

credibility because they are not explained adequately. Uncertainty creates doubt, and doubt
undermines success" (Chap. 20, p. 5). MFSI should benchmark HP to learn to identify the

negotiation was not always an option, he respected his father's determination and willingness to take

ADHD: Diagnosis, Treatment, Etiology, and Treatment Outlook
Attention Deficit with hyper activity Disorder commonly known as ADHD is classified as a
disruptive behavior disorder usually diagnosed in childhood. ADHD is the most commonly
diagnosed behavior disorder of childhood. It appears to be more common in boys than it is girls.
This Disorder is more common in boys than in girls and approximately five in one hundred children
are affected (Busing). There are three subtypes: Predominantly hyperactive–impulsive,
predominantly inattentive, combined hyperactive–impulsive and inattentive (most children have the
combined type of ADHD)(nimh.nih.gov).The age of onset of ADHD is usually in preschool to early
elementary school years. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some possible triggers or contributing factors are: brain injury, environmental factors, alcohol and
tobacco use during pregnancy. There have also been a number of "mythical causes" that have been
ruled out. Some of these are: bad parenting (although a dysfunctional home can exacerbate
symptoms), too much or too little sugar, artificial sweeteners, allergies and lack of vitamins.
Scientific research does not currently support any of these indicated potential causal factors
(nimh.nih.gov)
According to the Surgeon General website, "Because the symptoms of ADHD respond well to
treatment with stimulants, and because stimulants increase the availability of the neurotransmitter
dopamine, the "dopamine hypothesis" has gained a wide following. The dopamine hypothesis posits
that ADHD is due to inadequate availability of dopamine in the central nervous system. The
neurotransmitter dopamine plays a key role in initiating purposive movement, increasing motivation
and alertness, reducing appetite, and inducing insomnia, effects that are often seen when a child
responds well to methylphenidate. The dopamine hypothesis has thus driven much of the recent
research into the causes of ADHD." (Surgeon General website). It does make sense that
neurotransmitters are involved, since the mechanism of medications that seem to effectively reduce
the symptoms of ADHD impacts the neurotransmitters. This may explain why these medications are
effective for many people

Essay On My Birthday
My grandmother had a gall bladder attack
the same day I was born and was also put in the hospital.
One thing that
interested me the most was in 1960, Martin Luther King Jr. was arrested at an Atlanta sit–in at ¨The
Magnolia Room¨ On this day, 52 protesters, including King, were arrested for violating the
legislation. They were charged with a

All of these two competitors are focused on their industries. Some of the opportunities HP figured
out are by pursuing long–term visions that will create new markets. This includes the new HP
Fiorina Way where she breaks the management into two sectors, front end and back end. The new
structure boosts collaboration, giving sales and marketing executives a direct pipeline to engineers
so products are developed from the ground up to solve customer problems. Another one is to come
up with new e–services and then making the gear to deliver them. Couple other new innovations HP
is thinking taking their company to the Web where they identified three solutions – the digital
imaging effort to make photos, drawings, and videos as easy to create, store and send as e–mail. A
commercial printing thrust aims to capture business that now goes to offset presses. And a wireless
services effort might, say, turn a wristwatch into a full function. A net device that tracks the wearer's
heart rate and transmits that info to a hospital. The threats HP posses are from its rival members
such as Dell, Sun and IBM. The printing and imaging business is the company's crown jewel. As HP
becomes more heavily reliant on commoditizing markets like PCs and servers the company will
continue to face margin pressure. HP's biggest threats on a system level looking at companies with a

Name The House on Mango Street Persuasive Essay Esperanza's New Home I would like to
nominate Esperanza Codero and her family for the Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. Esperanza is
a young Latino girl who is around the age of thirteen; Esperanza lives in a place called Mango

everybody has to share a room. I believe Esperanza deserves to be nominated because she has been

Esperanza faces a large amount of adversity, which she must overcome, living on Mango Street.
Esperanza knows that overcoming her situation on Mango Street will prove to be a challenge for
her. "[The four skinny trees] strength is secret. They send ferocious roots beneath ground. They
grow up and down and grab the earth between hairy toes and bite the sky with violent teeth and
never quit their anger. This is how they keep." (Cisneros 74) This quote describes that Esperanza can
overcome her situation of being on Mango Street just like the skinny trees can grow up through the
concrete. Esperanza feels that she must eventually come back to Mango Street because it was her
first home. "They will not know I have gone away and come back." (Cisneros 110) This quote
symbolizes that even though Esperanza believes she does not belong on Mango Street that she is a
part of it and she cannot change that. Esperanza copes with daily life by telling stories, stories of
Mango Street and all those who lived on it. Esperanza's ability to overcome the adversity in her
neighborhood makes her a great choice for the show. Esperanza and her family deserve this because
they have never had a stable home to call their own. Esperanza deserves to be chosen because the
only thing she has ever wanted is a home. Esperanza's family would benefit from this because they
would never forget who they are or where they came from for example when Esperanza says she
will invite bums into her home

Introduction:. In This Essay I Will Be Exploring The Concepts
Introduction: In this essay I will be exploring the concepts of ideology and symbolic and cultural
capital in regards to the ABC television series Extreme Makeover: Home Edition with Ty
Pennington. The show is an American reality television series providing home makeovers for less
fortunate families and community schools. The show is hosted by former model, carpenter and
veteran television personality Ty Pennington who is pleasing to the ear and eye. Each episode
features a family that has faced some sort of recent or ongoing hardship such as a natural disaster or
a family member with a life–threatening illness, in which the family is in need of new hope. The
show 's producers coordinate with a local construction contractor, which then ... Show more content

Finally, while Extreme Makeover: Home Edition is a kind, supportive, and thoughtful thing a
community can do for a less fortunate family, it only gives the family initial material goods to
succeed in life it doesn 't teach them how to live well or better. Summary of Theories: The concept
of capital, neither symbolic or cultural in specifics, is this idea that continues the cycle of power
relations in society. According to Bourdieu, "it is in fact impossible to account for the structure and
functioning of the social world unless one reintroduces capital in all its forms and not solely in the
one form recognized by economic theory" (Bourdieu 2006:105–6). Usually the term capital refers to
monetary exchanges, Bourdieu is explaining that capital takes different forms to produce an overall
entity with power or capital. Like Karl Marx, Bourdieu argued that capital formed the foundation of
social life and dictated one's position within the social order. For Bourdieu and Marx both, the more
capital one has the more powerful a position one has in the power relations of social life. However,
Bourdieu extended Marx's idea of capital beyond the economic sphere and into the more symbolic
realm of culture. It is important to understand the difference between cultural and symbolic capital.
Bourdieu's concept of cultural capital refers to the collection of symbolic elements such as skills,
tastes,

Company Analysis: Sears Holding Corporation
Company Analysis: Sears Holding Corporation
Abstract
Sears Holdings Corporation (SHC) is the nation's fourth largest broadline retailer with
approximately 3,900 full–line and specialty retail stores in the United States and Canada. Formed in
the later part of the 19th century it was the largest retail company in the country until the early
nineties. SHC is currently the leading home appliance retailer as well as a leader in tools, lawn and
garden, home electronics and automotive repair and maintenance. As a result of its merger with
Kmart in 2005, SHC also has Martha Stewart Everyday products, which are offered exclusively in
the U.S. by Kmart. SHC operates through its subsidiaries, including Sears, Roebuck and Co. and

Merger
The merger between Kmart and Sears clearly enhanced both of the companies' mutual progressive
goals. Sears invested many assets in the formation of Sears Grand stores, larger off store malls, and
in the process bought many of the Kmart locations which were going out of business. Therefore the
merger helped this process so that it would enable the further growth of Sears at a quicker pace as
well as enhance the productivity and save the Kmart Corporation. This was clearly a strong decision
made by the executives in combining forces so that the marketability of both companies would
increase. Along with this, the shareholders could make a tremendous profit with this alliance. Prior
to the merger, if the independent companies were not steadily increasing their revenue shareholders
would lose money from their investments. The combination of both of the corporations would
improve shareholder investment returns and thus facilitate the growth of the Sears Holding
Corporation. The more investors receive higher returns, the greater investments into the company
thus fostering its overall growth. The proprietary brands, selling the aforementioned products, under
both companies would be able to reach the target demographic groups with greater ease. The real
estate holdings of individual Kmart or individual Sears stores, now under the umbrella of the Sears
Holding

Reality Tv Paper
Assignment 1: Reality television has become increasingly more popular and appears to be taking
over the entertainment business. Psychologist Lawrence Rubin seems to think it all goes back to
Aristotle, "The notion of being drawn to drama and tragedy"(Kinon, 2009). The viewer receives a
false sense of "real life" and disconnects from their own "real life" by diving into someone else's.
The effects these television shows have on society as a whole can be positive or negative depending
on the message the show depicts. Shows such as "Jersey Shore", "16 and Pregnant", and "Dr. 90210"
are a huge success to MTV but could be considered detrimental to society by painting distorted
pictures of reality in the viewer's mind. Shows including ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

lonely, not social or are picked on in school can see how much happiness a child can bring to those
reality stars, and they can ask themselves why not get pregnant and try to enjoy that for themselves.
That's not a reason to have a child and its not capitalized enough on the show. At the end of each

The Tragedy And Horror Of The Joplin Tornado
It is my belief that the attachment of positive interpretations to the tragedy and horror of the Joplin
tornado, and the repetition of such themes through continuous narration, directly affected
community ethos. This, in turn, helped further select the features of the collective narrative shared
with the nation through national news. The national attention to Joplin, spurred those wanting to
help in the wake of such devastation and those in admiration of the community's own resilience to
volunteer time and resources to the recovery effort. Cast as an all–American city in the Heartland of
the nation, the positive ethos and determination demonstrated by Joplin citizens transformed the
community's identity from a virtually–unknown place in Missouri to a symbol of the nation, a
transformation further encouraged through the wording of public statements by President Obama
and Governor Nixon as well as featuring Joplin on Extreme Makeover: Home Edition and other
television shows. To the nation, Joplin became a place amid an undifferentiated region, except to
locals, known as fly–over states. Theoretical Implications Disasters are totalizing events, impacting
and influencing every aspect of a community when they occur. As the anthropology of disaster
grows, both in the number of publications and the number of researchers, the scope of topics related
to disasters will also grow. Economic implications, vulnerable populations, and human ecology

How Does David Moody Use Stereotypes In Tv And Race
For as long as television has been around, racial stereotyping has plagued our screens. Most
common representations of racial relations lay within sit–coms who take basic and common
stereotypes and create whats known as Black situation comedies and Black humour. David Moody's
chapter The Complexity and Progression of Black Representation in Film and Television and Sasha
Torres' Television and Race both focus on Black sitcoms and their argument is that sit–coms rely
upon racial stereotyping for their coloured characters and the term race as turned from a problem to
another commodity for networks. Black sitcoms attempt to show a perspective of Black American
life, they mainly focus on Black family structures and the struggles associates with Black family

Why Reality Shows Can Be Entertaining and Offensive
How Reality Shows Can Be Offensive and Entertaining While some reality shows can be offensive,
I am somewhat entertained by other reality shows. Reality TV usually consists of people making
complete fools of themselves or just trying to get their "15 minutes of fame." Although, some
people, like Jon Gosselin and Elisabeth Hasselbeck have become quite famous this way. There are
some that center on celebrities and others that follow everyday people. I think the reality shows that
star actual celebrities, like Celebrity Apprentice and Dancing with the Stars, are offensive because

Crane perpetuates this by stating "Because your father... Raged at his breast, gulped and died (686).
Further, several other physical effects beg for US citizens to support the individuals. A few of these
conditions could possibly be; the loss of limbs, sight, hearing, etc. A writer for "Aging and Mental
Health" magazine states that in any traumatic war experience, malnutrition, immunological
deficiencies, and chronic infections lead to greatly increased mortality rates soon after the war and
over their lifetime (Davies 100). Further investigation would show an individual that these effects
are prominent throughout the world currently, even without war being the cause. Many
underdeveloped countries around the world currently have the aforementioned malnutrition and
suffering. This suffering will continue forever unless their countries develop to the point where these
helpless people can be taken care of. Hopefully the United States, supposedly being one of the most
developed countries in the world, can help returning wartime soldiers coming home from essential
missions from around the world with the physical aspects of the home life that they may no longer
able to perform. One way the United States can help out the soldiers returning with missing limbs, is
by fitting them with the limb or body parts that they have lost. According to Spc. Lorie Jewell from
"Soldiers" magazine; "prosthetics are keeping soldiers in the

Do Good Tv Analysis
"Do Good TV" Privatizing the role of social services has become the position that the Extreme
Makeover Edition, particularly the Miracle Workers have taken on. Stepping up to help people who
are too ill, do not have the connections or money for treatment and hold their hand through the
process of acquiring what they need, to the end. The act of human kindness, a helping hand and a
source of support that they would otherwise be without. For instance the Gibbs family from Florida,
where father and son had brain tumors removed and ABC's team helped them through all degrees of
support even asking questions that they didn't think to ask "Reality entertainment" is how ABC's

Publisher P. S. Harrison's editorials strongly reflected his feelings against product placement in
films. An editorial in Harrison's Reports criticized the collaboration between the Corona Typewriter
company and First National Pictures when a Corona typewriter appeared in the film The Lost World
(1925).[15] Harrison's Reports published several incidents about Corona typewriters appearing in
films of the mid–1920s.
Among the famous silent films to feature product placement was Wings (1927), the first film to win
the Academy Award for Best Picture. It contained a plug for Hershey's chocolate.
Another early example in film occurs in Horse Feathers (1932) where Thelma Todd's character falls
out of a canoe and into a river. She calls for a life saver and Groucho Marx's character tosses her a
Life Savers candy.
The film It's a Wonderful Life (1946), directed by Frank Capra, depicts a young boy with aspirations
to be an explorer, displaying a prominent copy of National Geographic.

Informative Speech Reality Tv Essay
Introduction:
It's a Thursday night, around 9:45. What are you doing? Relaxing, homework, getting ready to go
out, eating, group projects
My friends and I are gathering to watch the latest episode of Jersey Shore. No educational value, no
way of stimulating the brain However is increasingly popular
Season 2 was the #1 television series in the p–12–34 demo for summer 2010 and posted increasing
growth every week
Has a soundtrack, sticker book, wall calendar, bobble head dolls, shirts, water bottles, and even a
book titled "Gym, Tanning, Laundry: The Official Jersey Shore Quote Book."

Playing with the audio and visual leads to portraying the wrong behavior and actions.
Also revealed was that events are restaged if technical errors occur or if something dramatic
happened without being recorded. The Restaurant and Survivor have both been blamed for doing
this. A Shot of Love with Tila Tequila, which has both men and women competing for a woman's
heart, is speculated to have Tila, the woman who everyone is trying to win over, a heterosexual with
a boyfriend. Winner Bobby Barnhart claimed he never said her after the taping and was never even
given her phone number.
("Reality Television.")
Marketing for reality TV shows is outrageous. 8 out of 10 instances of product placement are for
reality shows. These shows include: The Biggest Loser, American Idol, Extreme Makeover: Home
Edition, Americas' Toughest Jobs, Deal or no Deal, Americas Next Top Model, Last Comic
Standing, and Hells Kitchen.
Topic 4: Why?
This leads me to my last question, why is America so consumed in this concept of reality TV?
One reason is because it's an escape from reality. Over the summer, my family had busy schedules
and everyone was running 20 different directions at a time. However, come 8pm Monday, my mom,
sister and I had a vow to forget about our busy lives, and watch The Bachelorette together.
It became a bonding session for us. People watch

HENKEL CASE STUDY
a) Describe the new culture of Henkel, in terms of its artifacts as well as content. Critically compare
Henkel's culture before 2008 and after Kasper Rorsted's arrival. Which key Differences can you
identify? How can the new culture drive forward the new strategic objectives?
What is the magic recipe that can make a company effective, successful, fruitful and eventually
"Number One"? Henkel with Rorsted on the lead and an ambition of becoming the Leader in the
market had to move into radical changes. Radical changes which would lead to the new culture in

He rewarded and welcomed innovation and placed a great emphasis on recruiting and retaining only
the elite employees, the best of the best – the ones who strive for success and winning.
It's not an easy task to change completely the culture of a company, to set new strategic objectives.
However, companies must change over time and not be static (Pfeffer J. , 1998). A strong culture is
an asset that a skilled manager can use and apply for the development of a company (Christensen,
2006) and Rorsted understands and applies that well. He managed to match the company's culture
with the strategic goals. He developed a specific and conrete action plan with clear strategic goals
and values and tried to communicate it among the employees. Only a company culture with clear
goals adjustable to changencan succed and perform excellency in the long run, as in the case of the
"new" Henkel (Christensen, 2006).
b) Critically evaluate the new performance evaluation system of Henkel. Which advantages and
disadvantages can you identify? Which are the implications of the new system for employee
motivation?
In terms of the general makeover that Henkel went through the performance evaluation system was
not left aside. It was necessary to re–create a new reward system. A new reward system that would
motivate people to perform at their best, and this was essential in order for the goals to be achieved
and make the company "The Leader". The new performance system was

The Influence Of Reality TV On American Culture

  • 1. The Influence Of Reality TV On American Culture How has reality TV affected the way people view other forms of entertainment? A very popular network called VH1, is one of the various networks that have transformed the true meaning of entertainment by its presentations of reality shows.VH1 has contributed in the decline of music perceptions by switching from music to a strictly reality TV basis. Reality TV is the lowest form of entertainment; it idolizes ignorance, depicts peoples' misfortune, and encourages stereotypes. The reputation of televised music has been damaged by VH1's newfound reality TV show fame. VH1 is an American cable television network established in New York City (Wikipedia). Their reality shows are built on the beliefs of absurd stereotypes. One of the network's reality TV shows that receive plenty dismissive remarks is VH1's Love and Hip Hop, all three sequels included. Whether using music in these shows is respectful, for the network, being sufficient or not is another thing. In these shows, VH1 has a vast array of minority stereotypes and their involvement in the industry of music. At several moments in each show, music is soon eliminated and the pivot is blanketed by catty women, sex scandals, and pure disrespect. The women in these shows give the impression that females can never be in the same room together without drinks and hair weave flying. Alongside, the males impersonate womanizing egos, children abandonment, relationship unfaithfulness, and lack of self–respect as well. Males and females patently obliterate each other's self–images, thus proving the stereotypes to be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Texting and Driving Accidents Texting and Driving "(Taylor) just loved everybody and was an amazing friend," said Shauna Sauer, mother of a teen killed in a texting and driving accident. "She wanted to take on the world, and she would have." Taylor was killed going 80 plus miles an hour on I–84 when she hit a tank truck that was rounding the corner at 15 mph in the opposite lane. "I think she was probably (texting) to stay awake, she was probably tired," said Clay Sauer, Taylor's father. Texting and driving ruined this young girl's life, causing a huge impact in the lives of her loved ones. Each year, thousands of people are severely injured or die in car accidents that are caused by cell phone use while operating a motorized vehicle. People need to put their phones aside while they are driving because when people use their phones their attention is not focused on the road, more unnecessary deaths occur, there is a higher risk of accidents, and insurance rates sky rocket. Texting and driving is dangerous because when our attention is focused on the messages that pop up on our phones we cannot focus on the road and are unaware of our surroundings. The Effects Of Neoliberal Ideals On The Portrayal Of Class The Effect of Neoliberal Ideals on the Portrayal of Class in Reality TV Over the past two decades, reality TV has become an increasingly popular genre of media and a staple in entertainment culture. As reality TV has continued to grow, scholars have become interested in examining the societal effects of the messages that it promotes. Thus, scholarly research in the genre of reality TV examines how the use of neoliberal ideals affects the portrayal of socioeconomic class. This field of study was first founded in the research of neoliberalism's presence within the media and reality TV. Unlike George Mantsios, Rennels and Edwards focused their work specifically on reality TV. Each author completed case studies of individual reality TV shows; yet they came to the same conclusion that reality TV presents the poor as individuals, or singular families, that can overcome poverty by working hard and adopting traditional "puritan–esque" values. Here Comes Honey Boo focuses on a southern working–class white family and intentionally emphasizes their lazy lifestyle as well as unconventional behaviors, which implies that their unorthodox lifestyle has lead to their state of poverty (Rennels). Outside of the United States, scholars such as Annabel Tremlett have studied the ways in which class has played into the representation of marginalized minorities, specifically the Gypsy community, in reality TV. Big Fat Gypsy Wedding, "glosses over social conditions and ignores potential for social and cultural change" (Tremlett 324). The immense poverty found within the Gypsy community is attributed to negative aspects of their culture rather than systemic oppression. Narratives in which the men are "drinking and fighting" while the women are "oppressed housewives" are common plotlines that contribute to enforcing Gypsies "otherness" as a reason for their poverty (Tremlett 327). ADHD: The Troubles, The Triumphs Conor Crowley 1/15/15 ADHD: The Tears, The Troubles, The Triumphs In Dedication and Apology to Mary Scimone, Trumbull High School, and all it's Denizens By Conor Francis Crowley ADHD is a very different beast, to be perfectly frank. You may have heard whispers and statements on how it leads to 'hyperactivity' and 'impulsiveness,' but it goes a little bit beyond an overzealous person. Sometimes, you say words you don't exactly mean, words that come out of your mouth that you instantly wish to take back and erase. This innate fear is justified, as I have come to fear incarceration for saying the wrong thing. Now you may be well aware of the dos and don'ts of a human's sentence memory, but for kids with Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, the lines can be a bit more blurred. In fact, you could be arrested for "hate speech," intentional or not; according to Doctor Barbara and Fletcher, it's a good 22.5% chance that you could be arrested if you have ADHD. That scary... but even then, there's a chance. There's a chance that you don't even have to worry about it, provided you know what to say. There is a chance, and there always will, that you could rise above your disabilities and become something greater; something I strive to do, now that I saw the gravity of my decisions. And before I go onto this long discussion about ADHD, it's tears, it's troubles, and it's triumphs, I'd like to state something. The House on Mango Street Persuasive Essay Name The House on Mango Street Persuasive Essay Esperanza's New Home I would like to nominate Esperanza Codero and her family for the Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. Esperanza is a young Latino girl who is around the age of thirteen; Esperanza lives in a place called Mango Street, which is a very poor neighborhood, with her family in a nearly broken down house in which everybody has to share a room. I believe Esperanza deserves to be nominated because she has been through a great deal in The House on Mango Street. They grow up and down and grab the earth between hairy toes and bite the sky with violent teeth and never quit their anger. This is how they keep." (Cisneros 74) This quote describes that Esperanza can overcome her situation of being on Mango Street just like the skinny trees can grow up through the concrete. Esperanza feels that she must eventually come back to Mango Street because it was her first home. "They will not know I have gone away and come back." (Cisneros 110) This quote symbolizes that even though Esperanza believes she does not belong on Mango Street that she is a part of it and she cannot change that. Esperanza copes with daily life by telling stories, stories of Mango Street and all those who lived on it. Esperanza's ability to overcome the adversity in her neighborhood makes her a great choice for the show. Esperanza and her family deserve this because they have never had a stable home to call their own. Esperanza deserves to be chosen because the only thing she has ever wanted is a home. In This Essay I Will Be Exploring The Concepts Introduction: In this essay I will be exploring the concepts of ideology and symbolic and cultural capital in regards to the ABC television series Extreme Makeover: Home Edition with Ty Pennington. The show is an American reality television series providing home makeovers for less fortunate families and community schools. The show is hosted by former model, carpenter and veteran television personality Ty Pennington who is pleasing to the ear and eye. Finally, while Extreme Makeover: Home Edition is a kind, supportive, and thoughtful thing a community can do for a less fortunate family, it only gives the family initial material goods to succeed in life it doesn 't teach them how to live well or better. Summary of Theories: The concept of capital, neither symbolic or cultural in specifics, is this idea that continues the cycle of power relations in society. According to Bourdieu, "it is in fact impossible to account for the structure and functioning of the social world unless one reintroduces capital in all its forms and not solely in the one form recognized by economic theory" (Bourdieu 2006:105–6). Usually the term capital refers to monetary exchanges, Bourdieu is explaining that capital takes different forms to produce an overall entity with power or capital. Like Karl Marx, Bourdieu argued that capital formed the foundation of social life and dictated one's position within the social order. For Bourdieu and Marx both, the more capital one has the more powerful a position one has in the power relations of social life. However, Bourdieu extended Marx's idea of capital beyond the economic sphere and into the more symbolic realm of culture. It is important to understand the difference between cultural and symbolic capital. Bourdieu's concept of cultural capital refers to the collection of symbolic elements such as skills, tastes, ... Company Analysis: Sears Holding Corporation Company Analysis: Sears Holding Corporation Abstract Sears Holdings Corporation (SHC) is the nation's fourth largest broadline retailer with approximately 3,900 full–line and specialty retail stores in the United States and Canada. Formed in the later part of the 19th century it was the largest retail company in the country until the early nineties. SHC is currently the leading home appliance retailer as well as a leader in tools, lawn and garden, home electronics and automotive repair and maintenance. As a result of its merger with Kmart in 2005, SHC also has Martha Stewart Everyday products, which are offered exclusively in the U.S. by Kmart. Merger The merger between Kmart and Sears clearly enhanced both of the companies' mutual progressive goals. Sears invested many assets in the formation of Sears Grand stores, larger off store malls, and in the process bought many of the Kmart locations which were going out of business. Therefore the merger helped this process so that it would enable the further growth of Sears at a quicker pace as well as enhance the productivity and save the Kmart Corporation. This was clearly a strong decision made by the executives in combining forces so that the marketability of both companies would increase. Along with this, the shareholders could make a tremendous profit with this alliance. Prior to the merger, if the independent companies were not steadily increasing their revenue shareholders would lose money from their investments. The combination of both of the corporations would improve shareholder investment returns and thus facilitate the growth of the Sears Holding Corporation. The more investors receive higher returns, the greater investments into the company thus fostering its overall growth. The proprietary brands, selling the aforementioned products, under both companies would be able to reach the target demographic groups with greater ease. Psychologist Lawrence Rubin seems to think it all goes back to Aristotle, "The notion of being drawn to drama and tragedy"(Kinon, 2009). The viewer receives a false sense of "real life" and disconnects from their own "real life" by diving into someone else's. The effects these television shows have on society as a whole can be positive or negative depending on the message the show depicts. Shows such as "Jersey Shore", "16 and Pregnant", and "Dr. 90210" are a huge success to MTV but could be considered detrimental to society by painting distorted pictures of reality in the viewer's mind. • 64. The Tragedy And Horror Of The Joplin Tornado It is my belief that the attachment of positive interpretations to the tragedy and horror of the Joplin tornado, and the repetition of such themes through continuous narration, directly affected community ethos. This, in turn, helped further select the features of the collective narrative shared with the nation through national news. The national attention to Joplin, spurred those wanting to help in the wake of such devastation and those in admiration of the community's own resilience to volunteer time and resources to the recovery effort. Cast as an all–American city in the Heartland of the nation, the positive ethos and determination demonstrated by Joplin citizens transformed the community's identity from a virtually–unknown place in Missouri to a symbol of the nation, a transformation further encouraged through the wording of public statements by President Obama and Governor Nixon as well as featuring Joplin on Extreme Makeover: Home Edition and other television shows. To the nation, Joplin became a place amid an undifferentiated region, except to locals, known as fly–over states. Theoretical Implications Disasters are totalizing events, impacting and influencing every aspect of a community when they occur. As the anthropology of disaster grows, both in the number of publications and the number of researchers, the scope of topics related to disasters will also grow.
