The Complexity Of Forest Fires Essay
The Complexity of Forest Fires Case in Indonesia: Exposure on Moral Dimension of the
Environmental Policy
I. Introduction and Problem Identification
Everyone is expected to do the right thing in a society that has a social awareness. The social
awareness includes moral behaviour, ethical behaviour and obey the rules. Forest and land fire is a
complex environmental problem in Indonesia. In the last 18 years since 1997/1998, forest and land
fires happen in every year in Indonesia. The problem is not only because of natural cause but also
human action cause. The human cause is from population growth that impacts to the increasing
needs of human life and pushes human action in utilizing nature intensively. Therefore as a
consequence of human action to the resource of consumption is a threatening to the sustainability of
nature and to human itself. Furthermore global climate change phenomenon as an impact of human
action also has caused El Nino and impacted to the length of drought season in Indonesia. As a
tropical and an archipelago country, Indonesia's weather condition is vulnerable because of climate
change. Land and forest area are easily burned and the fire are becoming out of control whenever
drought season come. Forest and land fire have caused significant economic losses, human health
problem, and damage environment and biodiversity in the area. It also increases tension between
Indonesia and other ASEAN countries that have been impacted by haze of forest and land

The Pros And Cons Of Slash And Burn
Slash and Burn
Slash and burn is the cutting down of trees and burning them before new seeds are sown so that a
particular piece of land can be cleared. This is a problem that has gone on since after the stone age,
this process makes the soil less fertile and its hard for more plants to grow and fruits and vegetables
we eat become harder to grow. The affected area will desertificate and nothing can grow there and
the damage is permanent or the farmers have to wait until the soil is fertile again but this can take a
really long time. Since there are many people doing it large amounts of area are covered every day.
If done properly slash and burn agriculture is as sustainable and as productive as more energy
intensive agricultural methods. But not everyone knows how to execute this ... Show more content

Communities don't have any food to harvest to feed themselves or sell in the market
The paper industry will have a massive decline in paper production
Everyone because the infertile soils cause very small yields, which increases the price of food.
Animals would not have any food to eat, they may not grow and food will be scarce. Animals that
live on or in trees will be left homeless
Everyone will be affected somehow
Clean water will be scarce because trees filter precipitation before it enters the streams
Air quality will suffer because trees take in carbon dioxide and turn it release oxygen, without trees
clean air will be a thing of the past.
The climate will be severely affected because trees help regulate the temperature to a norm, and
without them we can expect extreme climates.
Slash and burn is a form of deforestation; this can interfere with the whole ecosystem around

Swidden Farming and the Logging Industry in Indonesia...
With over 130 million hectares of forest area, Indonesia has the third largest forest in the world.
These forests are home to many diverse wildlife and unique creatures not found naturally anywhere
else in the world. Before the 1950's, these forests were dense and in a natural balance. With the
introduction of greed in the form of humans and reckless machinery over 60 or so years, Indonesia
has won the dubious honour in becoming the "World leader of deforestation". This has led to an
unnatural balance and is causing humans to try to control the environment more than they should.
They practice the act of Swidden farming just like the indigenous people of those regions have. It is
the action of cutting down trees and burning any unnecessary ... Show more content on

These pollutants may remain in the forest area. They can move into the cities and add to the factory
released pollutants. Or, they can go over into innocent neighbouring countries and disrupt their
lifestyles and their health. In 2013, a pollution cloud from Indonesia covered and filled Singapore.
The Pollutant Standards Index surged and obtained a reading of 371. This is the highest level of
pollution Singapore has ever had and they did not contribute to the burning. This pollution causes
difficulty with navigation and will give a person skin irritations, breathing difficulties, and
respiration issues from the polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons found as a by product of Swidden
farming.
Another issue with pollution from Swidden farming is its exacerbation to global warming. The fires
of Swidden forests release greenhouse gases. These gases build up in the atmosphere and keep in
infrared radiation. This is the natural way the Earth maintains the temperature. A dense, greenhouse
gas atmosphere is not a good idea. Yet, the Indonesian logging industry continues to slash and burn
down forests for money. An example of a greenhouse gas rich atmosphere is the atmosphere on the
planet Venus. Venus is known to have the highest surface temperature of any known planet. It is
unlikely that Earth will become like this but, if the rest of the Earth were like Indonesia, the
characteristics will eventually become identical. The increase in carbon emissions in

Deforestation Is Bad For The Environment
Even though we need trees for many things, deforestation needs to lessen because it causes things to
happen to the atmosphere, animals, and humans. Deforestation is bad for the environment. At least
half of the world's tropical forests has been cleared. There is about 2,000 trees being cut down per
minute. An estimate of 140 species of rainforest plants and animals go extinct every day!
Deforestation is the clearing of trees to make a cleared place of land that is used for many things.
People use the cleared land for money, people's need to provide for their families, and agriculture.
Farmers cut down forests to have more room for planting crops and room for their animals to graze.
People also cut down trees to make many things, such as, shelter, fuel, paper, and many other things.
There are pros to deforestation. Deforestation does many good things for the environment. One
reason we use deforestation is to help the economy. Trees provide a lot of important renewable
resources that help our nation and other nations grow. Trees are cut down to make paper and other
things, which when bought, gives our economy money. Another reason is to create room for crops
and other things. Farmers cut down trees to have more room for planting crops. Sometimes, farmers
will clear a few acres to feed their families by cutting and burning the trees, which is known as slash
and burn agriculture. Trees are also cut down to make fuel. The trees are sometimes used as charcoal
and timber.

Saul Hudson
Saul Hudson was born to an African American mother and British father in London on July 23, 1965
and even though he was born in London he was raised for most of his life in Los Angeles,
California.
Saul was given the nickname "Slash", by a family friend because he was very energetic and
constantly in motion growing up. He is now known as slash by everyone, and he says that the only
two people that call him by his first real name are, his mom and his doctor.
Slash learned to play the guitar as a teenager with Robert Wolin, a teacher at Fairfax Music School
but he soon lost interest in schoolwork and took up BMX racing, later he became more interested in
playing the guitar and gave up his biking.

Slash has played solos with a couple of famous artists, such as Michael Jackson in his Billy Jean
concert. In 1985 he joined Guns N' Roses, and played with them until 1996 but is coming to perform
with them this year in El Paso.
Velvet Revolver, was another band he played in.
Hollywood Rose is another band he played guitar with, which also included Axl Rose and Izzy
Stradlin. But overall his first band was the Tidus Sloan band. Slash always uses Gibson Les Paul
guitars of various colors, with very few exceptions, his first guitar was a 1970/80s Memphis Les
Paul, he started moving on to funky looking guitars such as the 1978/79 B.C. Rich Mockingbird and
the B.C. Rich Warlock, after using a couple of non–Gibson guitars he moved on and used for the
most part, Gibson guitars, his coolest one to me would be the 1967 Gibson EDS–1275 which looks
like two guitars in one, he owns two of these I believe. Slash

Wildfires Research Paper
Based off information publicly provided by the United States National Forest service, In the year of
2015 17 of the 56 of the United States wildfires were prescribed or a controlled burn. To save you
from doing the math, that is 30% of the total amount of fires, that is 247,639 of the 815,753 acres
that burned. That is 247,639 acres of pristine North American forest that is lost. Therefore the
question that needs to be brought to the table is, are prescribed or controlled wildfires a waste of
human energy? With little hesitation from the information that I have gathered will tell you yes. The
fact of the matter is wildfires are beneficial to the soil, but is hard to control, and is harmful to
humans. The U.S. National Forest should change ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These gases include but are not limited to "carbon monoxide, methane... and hydrocarbons" (Flower
1). When you inhale too much of these harmful gases you may be at risk for " Breathing problems,
bronchitis... Asthma, and chest pains." (Flower 1). Along with these harmful gases are particles
referred to as microns. Microns are sharp dust and smoke particles that are very harsh on your lungs
and enter your bloodstream and can harm your vital organs. For small children, the elderly, and
those who already suffer from respiratory problems, heart problems and diabetes, ten or more
micrograms of microns per cubic centimeters can be extremely agonizing or fatal (Honn 1).
Reaching that amount of microns can happen in two different ways. The first and most rare way is
that, the density of microns comes straight from the smoke of one tree, which is rare because less
than a percent of tree's in the world can do that. The second way is that the smoke sits in one area
and builds up its density due to lack of wind or rain. Regardless of how a wildfire starts the smoke it
dissipates into the air is harmful to humans, therefore there is no need to "fuel the flame" by having
controlled or prescribed burns. The smoke that is being released into the air that we breathe is not
controllable by humans, but then

Gender Roles A Self Fulling Prophecy Essay
This cycle can negatively impact the author's life and the reader's life, whether they know it or not,
because as they read or write harmfully gendered relationships, they subconsciously affirm the
"truths" portrayed in the fiction and spread these beliefs to other readers. In other words, damaging
gender roles appear right and natural, because they are so often depicted in the media as right and
natural, with relationships healthy based on equality being rarely offered as the alternative. This
makes heteronomrative gender roles a self–fulling prophecy–with people performing these
stereotypes, because they are presented as the norm. If feminized male characters serve as the stand–
in for the female reader, then fanfictions that depicts the "feminine" as mentally and physically less
able than the "masculine" must contribute to this vicious cycle as well. In addition, the masculine
gender role often exemplifies the type of behavior considered "natural" for men. In American
culture, part of this "natural" masculine gender role assumes that men will be complicit ,if not
actively participating, in patriarchal culture and the poisonous values often associated with it. The
traditional masculine model is made to seem so "right" that men portraying this gender role, and the
women reading about this gender role, are made to believe that the domination and exploitation of
women, and even other men, is not just expected, but demanded (Carter 2011). Within the Hannibal
fandom, this type

Deforestation : Did The Mayan Way Of Deforestation Change...
Deforestation: Did the Mayan's way of deforestation change the climate?
It is widely known climate change is occurring because of multiple factors including greenhouse
gases, human activity, and some scientists say solar irradiance. What most people do not know or
simply have not thought of is how far back in history was climate change a problem or if it was an
issue for early civilizations. It is apparent that early civilizations weakened for several reasons, but
one reason in particular is affecting the world today. One particular civilization that is popular for
their agriculture are the Mayans. The Maya empire occupied land that is now Guatemala. They were
the most dominant native people before the 16th century and were intelligent in the way they did
agriculture. With new research available, it is plausible to say the Mayans, did in fact, change the
climate due to their way of deforestation.
Environmental effects of deforestation are pressing. Due to the significant amount of tree lost,
animals have lost shelter, regulates temperatures, increased greenhouse gases, less water in the air to
be returned to the soil, and soil erosion. There are different methods of deforestation which include
clean–cut, selective logging, perennial shade, and the most used, slash–and–burn. Slash–and–burn is
mostly used by small farmers and ranch owners in the tropics including the famous Amazon
rainforest. The process of slash–and–burn was to cut down the tress in a particular plot of

Deforestation Problems
To this day, the human population has grown to over 7.5 billion consumers. With that number and
the grand demand for wood grow exponentially. This grand consumption of the earth's natural
resources has caused severe problems to the land, the wildlife, and ultimately to the survival of
every living being on the planet. Deforestation, the felling of trees for the purpose of transporting,
selling, and purchasing has caused dire diminishment to the planet's natural resources. Scientist and
researchers are looking for plausible solutions.
Human Impact and Deforestation
` Earth is like a math problem, and its solution requires every component or else it falls apart.
Deforestation is taking away all of our trees, a vital component, from around the world.
Deforestation is a process where trees are felled to be transported, bought and or to be sold. Our
forests cover over 30 percent of our world's surface,it is the home for many endangered animals who
find shelter in them. Trees produce crucial elements such as oxygen, but these vital trees are going
to disappear soon due to deforestation. What was such a green world has now succumbed to a
brown, barren, and desolate land, and humans have everything to do with it. Humans cause
deforestation by, agriculture, illegal logging and for housing, this spurs researchers to help produce a
solution, Even though the problem is easily seen on the outside, the real issue lies within the 7.5
billion consumers who are okay and are uneducated

The Mayans, as mentioned before, were never unified, and constantly warred with each other. With
rapidly growing amounts of people and already existing tensions, there is a very fair possibility that
large wars may have started breaking down the society, leaving them open for invaders as well. The
government holding the areas together may have begun to diminish and eventually the whole

Environmental Issues In Madagascar Essay
Environmental issues exist in Madagascar because of the problems that our society composes. Worst
of all, Madagascar continues to face an economic depression and as well as losing the land that
animals use to roam freely. Many countries around the world depend on the island's significant
natural resources. Sadly with a blink of an eye, the beauty of the island disappears without anyone
taking charge. Karin Brulliard exposes the problems in Madagascar with a statement throughout her
narration:
Years of deforestation and slash–and–burn agriculture left just 10 percent of Madagascar's original
vegetation and protecting what remains is an urgent concern of international conservation groups.
That effort has made great strides in the past three decades, they say, through programs to expand
protected areas and encourage sustainable farming (Brulliard).
Despite the fact that citizens in Madagascar are destitute and need the forest's resources, citizens of
Madagascar have caused the destruction of their homeland through their irresponsible farming
practices and illegal trades. Although deforestation has occurred for hundreds of years, the number
of cases in which forests have vanished has increased. When the forest is being cut down
dramatically, the habitats of many animals are being taken away, making it harder for animals to
stay alive. For example, the disappearance of the forest has led to 90 percent of the lemurs being
endangered. Even

Deforestation And Its Effects On Deforestation Essay
Deforestation is "the act of cutting or burning down all of the trees in an area." The original area
covered by forests was approximately six billion hectares, however the total area of land covered by
forests today is only four billion hectares. The issue is only expanding, and its challenges are
becoming tougher every day. In fact, approximately sixteen million hectares of forest disappear each
year. Forests cover more than twenty five percent of the world's land, and more than half of that is
found in the tropics. Deforestation has been around for more than five decades, and humanity has
only just begun to find the causes of the problem.
Forests cover approximately thirty percent of the world's land. Deforestation represents one of the
world's largest issues in global land usage. In fact, humans are one of the biggest influences for
deforestation. Farmers use a method known as the "slash and burn" process to cut down trees and
grow their crops in the soil fertilized by the ashes. Many people use commercial logging, a process
in which trees are trimmed and transported in order to build mills, by chopping down vast areas of
forest for profit. Wildfires and overgrazing are also large issues that contribute to deforestation. This
leaves the forest vulnerable to many global and environmental consequences. Everyday carbon
dioxide is returned to the atmosphere as a greenhouse gas when trees are burned, and this has great
potential to alter the global climate. As a result, there

there was only the most distant relationship, and that by marriage, it was equivalent to asserting that
he did not belong to the same group as Ekianga and Manyalibo and the rest. Even though Cephu had
committed a heinous crime, the case was settled simply and effectively. He was ignored and not
offered a chair and had his food taken away from him and was ignored by the men in his camp. All
of these actions may seem small but in the eyes of a Pygmy, none of these actions/punishments were
quickly forgotten. Kelemoke had also committed a very serious crime; he had committed the crime
of incest. Kelemoke tried to take refuge in a hut, but he was turned away with angry remarks, and a
burning log was thrown after him. At this point three girls came running out of Cephu 's camp, right
into the middle of the clearing. They carried knives and were shouting curses at Kelemoke and his
family all while

Hampstead, United Kingdom. Slash grew up in Los Angeles and learned to play guitar as a teenager.
His mother is African American, and his father is British. Saul got the nickname "Slash" from a
family friend because he could never stop moving around. He lived with his father and grandparents
in Stoke–on–Trent until the age of 5 which is just south of Manchester. Then him and his father
joined his mom in Los Angeles. Eventually his parents become divorced and slash falls into some
bad habits. He picked up guitar at the age of 14 and practiced nonstop. Slash is most famously
known for being in the band Guns and Roses as the band's lead guitarist.

The Onus Of Prosecution: Case Study
1. Slash, the victim, is part of the prosecution against the alleged crimes done by the accused
Dr.Nick and Mr. Lance. Slash is a 17 year old male, therefore according to Queensland jurisdiction,
he is classified as a child. Slash has obtained forms of body modification from the defendants while
his parents were away on an overseas holidays. Slash's older brother Edge, who is a 20 year old
male, has been brought as a witness to the prosecution. Thus, the responsibility of the prosecution is
to then prove that the crimes by the accused were committed and establish the onus of proof. To
prove the defendants intentions, the mens rea (mental state) and actus rea (physical act) must be
found. It is then jury's duty in the court to give the verdict to the defendants as guilty, as proven
beyond a reasonable doubt. The Judge of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The precedent that will be related to the defendant Dr.Nick is the GRAEME STEPHEN REEVES v
THE QUEEN [2013] HCA 57 case. Graeme Stephen Reeves is a deregistered former gynaecologist
and obstetrician from New South Wales, who was convicted with the offence of maliciously
inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent. The complainant is Reeves patient, CDW. The harm was
the surgical removal of her vulva, including her labia and clitoris. CDW consented to surgery,
however, she was not told details about the removal of her entire vulva, including her labia and
clitoris. Mr Reeves claims that she did consent to the surgery. This case is similar to the situation
with Slash vs. Dr.Nick with the tongue splitting. Dr.Nick states that he has a checklist process of
consent before the patient wants the surgery and believes that he discussed the reversal procedure of
the split tongue. Slash on the other hand, states that he was not informed that a split tongue does not
grow back and does not recall any of the checklist process or discussion with Dr.Nick. This being
said, the precedents both have the issue over the communication of consent in surgical

Climate Change And Its Effects On The World Today
It is known climate change is occurring because of multiple factors, including greenhouse gases,
human activity, and some scientists say solar irradiance. What most people do not know or simply
have not thought of is how far back in history was climate change a problem or if it was an issue for
early civilizations. It is apparent that early civilizations weakened for several reasons, but one reason
in particular is affecting the world today. One particular civilization that is popular for their
agriculture are the Mayans. The Maya empire occupied land that is now Guatemala. They were the
most dominant native people before the 16th century and were intelligent in the way they did
agriculture. With new research available, it is plausible to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This method was used because it efficiently removed unwanted parasites and plant in the rich soil.
Not only slash–and–burn increases climate change, but also was a problem after 2–3 years of using
the soil, it would erode and reduce the nutrients, resulting in insufficient growth of crops. After the
soil erodes, the process was repeated, but in a different area. It is an effective method if practiced by
smaller land and a smaller population. Since the population of the Mayan empire expanded, more
trees were needed to provide essential needs. The endless cycle of slash and burn increasingly
became severe for the Mayans. The lack of trees allowed greater amounts of CO2 to be released into
the atmosphere. The top country that has the highest deforestation is Brazil. Deforestation not only
opposes a threat to the climate and habitat loss, it also causes problems for people living in Brazil
and other countries near Brazil. Mass deforestation can put these people at risk of losing their
livelihood. Soil erosion can add waste into drinking water systems making the water non–drinkable.
Burning trees add carbon dioxide to our atmosphere and removing trees lowers the number of trees
available to transform carbon dioxide into oxygen. Deforestation continues the effect of global
warming in this way. A disruption in the water cycle can have a ripple effect on the environment.
Guatemala, once preoccupied by the Mayans, is still very much

Porn and Prose Essay
Porn and Prose
Pornography has the ability to stay current with each technological breakthrough while pushing the
borders of what we deem as "acceptable" in reading and writing. In, Writing Material: Readings
from Plato to the Digital Age by Tribble and Trubek, an article by Gopnick notes the death of the
"word" before its technological resurgence. "Each new medium was more visually and sensually
rich that the last: movies gave way to talking movies, which gave way to color talking movies,
which gave way to round–the–clock talking color television. In that context, words just hung around
looking glum, with hardly enough energy left to compose themselves into sentences"(180). Gopnick
then discuses the "revolution" of the Internet ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The availability and widespread usage of Internet porn has made these mediums more accepted than
in the past. While Playboy was once considered a novelty in the risqué, it is now considered tame
compared to the material found on the World Wide Web. Playboy is also known for its articles and
political satire. The common joke is that men only subscribe to Playboy "for the articles", but more
often than not, men are reading those articles. You can't say that for most of the porn found on the
web.
Reading has a history of association with sensuality. In "On Women and Reading", from Tribble and
Trubek, there is a painting of an elegant woman reading in a chair. The painting is whimsical in
nature and depicts an enjoyment of the literature. She is fully clothed and without an erotic pose, but
the softness of the painting coupled with the casual lounging with her book is somehow sensual.
"Novels were regarded with considerable suspicion by the respectable, especially the 'godly', who
feared that female novel readers would become idle, sexually aroused, or obsessed with a fantasy
world" (Tribble and Trubek 338). This fear was in the context of reading, but today, with the
popularity of Internet writing and publishing; women have found their own place in pornographic
text.
Sven Birkerts discusess the phenomenon of "the waning of the private self" and writes, "For some

The Organizational System Of Yanomami
The Organizational System of Yanomami The world aggregates a lot of small societies, and groups,
and each group has its own culture and economic system. Yanomami is located in the Amazon
forest, in the south of Venezuela and northern Brazil and is one of the largest tribes in the Amazon.
This group has an appealing history, because of the aggressive way they responded to
anthropologists who tried to investigate more about them. Due to their reactions against
anthropologist, it is a challenge to do a research in their lifestyle. Their method of subsistence is
considered old–fashioned. The economic system is based in foraging and trades, and recently they
started using the horticulture. "Horticulture can be defined as farming without the use of
technologies like the plow, irrigation, fertilizer or draft animals." (Eller, 134) Talk about their
economic system is interesting because, as an indigenous group their resources are limited and they
have not good relationship with the western civilization. Historically, they have been facing
ecological problems. In 1975, a mineralogical survey revealed the presence of gold in Yanomami's
land, since then they have been fighting against miners, because they brought diseases and killed
many Yanomamis. Economy is what ensures the sustainability of a society. It is important that a
group has an independent economic system. Yanomami is not completely independent, because they
depend on the natural resources Amazon forest provides to them.

Outsiders In The Story Of Tommy Kelsaket's Slash
The story of Tommy Kelsaket, also known as Slash in the book, is about his struggles with growing
up as an indigenous man who went through a lot as the Canadian government's plan was to remove
the culture from the country. Although Tommy was never placed in a residential school where
students would be separated from their family for months, severely punished for speaking their
language or doing anything that followed their culture like at home. Tommy went to a town school
where he was picked on by teachers and other students to the point where he was forced to change
in order to fit in.
Looking at the theory of outsider within initially introduced to me in the reading of Hill Collin's
journal, speaking about the concept of the black women being the outsiders within the white houses.
In that case she explained how the black women were still treated as slaves in those years, but some
were allowed into the households to take care of the family's chores such as taking care of the
children, cleaning and cooking meals. Taking this concept into the reading of Slash, knowing I
would have to find an advantage to this once horrible concept, was strange to me. However, this
theory can also be looked at as an advantage in some instances. Tommy was one of the indigenous
children who chose to continue their education past the grade 6 level, with this he was forced to go
to the town school where he took on the role of what I see as being an outsider within. Him and the
others who came

Animals Killing Animals
Humans are destructive. They don't realize the impact they're making in the world until it becomes a
problem. Everyone, everyday destroys someone's life. In fact, they destroy a life of an animal or
plant that is now endangered. If we continue killing animals at a rate of 100 million a year, then our
the generations after us won't be able witness the beauty we experienced. Currently, there is an act to
stop this behavior, but why do poachers still kill animals? Why do people use slash and burn
agriculture? Why do we have an act if it is not stopping people from doing this? I believe poachers
shouldn't be able to kill animals for money, people shouldn't use be able to Slash and Burn
Agriculture, and the Endangered Species Act needs to be reformed. Wildlife trade has become a
threat faced by animals around the world all because of poachers. Poaching by definition is the
illegal hunt of game or fish that is not on one's land. Often times with poaching of endangered
animals, it results in illegal wildlife trade. An example would be of poachers killing elephants for
ivory and tigers for their skins and bones. Poachers have decided the best thing for them to do is to
harm innocent animals just for money. This should be ended, because they are taking things way too
far. "We are consuming wildlife for fashion, medicine, souvenirs, and trophy hunting," says an
observer. This means poachers are being assigned by people to kill animals for clothes or medicine.

Yucatan Peninsula Maya
Maya The Yucatan Peninsula is the exposed portion of the larger Yucatan Peninsula, all of which is
composed of carbonate and soluble rocks, being mostly limestone although dolomite and evaporites
are also present at various depths. The whole of the Yucatán Peninsula is an unconfined flat lying
karst landscape. Sinkholes, known locally as cenotes, are widespread in the northern lowlands. The
Yucatan peninsula usually experienced tropical weather. The Mayans grew corn, farmers also
cultivated beans, squash, and fruit trees. Black beans and red beans contributed protein to the Maya
diet. Numerous varieties of squash and pumpkin were grown. Droughts were one of the biggest
threats to Mayan farms. The Mayans found a way to store water in case of droughts. The Mayans
used a farming technique called slash and burn. Slash and burn meant that you would burn down
forests and the land that was leftover would be your farm. The leftover ash from slash and burn is
very good for plants. People still use slash and burn today, but performing this technique can cause
global warming. Inca ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

practice is the type of practice that is effortful, purposeful, and not inherently enjoyable."
Individuals are prompted to practice because their performance improves. In addition, engaging in
deliberate practice does not create instant rewards and significance associated with access to
teachers and training atmospheres. However, Ericsson states becoming an

The Music Of Guns N ' Roses '
Guns N' Roses is a heavy metal band that helped the rise of heavy metal as the mainstream genre in
the 1980's. Their music has a unique sound with influences from heavy metal and hair metal/glam
metal periods. One song that illustrates both of these musical influences is the song "Welcome to the
Jungle" on the album "Appetite for Destruction".
The members of Guns N' Roses got their start as a band in Los Angeles, California. At the time of
their band rising to fame, America was still in the transition of heavy metal becoming a mainstream
genre again. Although metal was present throughout the 1980's it was not until the late 80's when it
achieved mainstream success. The popular music genres at the time were hip–hop, electronic music,
soft rock, alternative rock, and pop music. Country music was also a popular genre of music in the
early 1980's but eventually got less popular. While Guns n' Roses were building up their popularity
it took nearly a year to get the gigs they were looking for. In that year the odds were against the
band. They had a hard time when it came to getting gigs because "... a series of frenzied, violent
shows landed the Gunners on the shit list of everyone, including club owner, rival bands and the
press – everyone but the fans, who grew in numbers with each passing gig," (Del, "Axl Rose: The
Rolling Stone Interview"). Once they had a large fan base, Tom Zutaut noticed the bands popularity
and decided to sign them to Geffen Records in 1986. Even though

Problem Of Deforestation
Deforestation is a genocide of trees, a modern day environmental plague. The clearing of millions of
trees each day. Not only hurting the environment, but all types of animals, plants, and indigenous
peoples that survive and live off of the forests. The forests we destroy day by day.
For our own selfish reasons. Deforestation is a major problem in our day and age, by killing the
millions of trees that live on our planet, we will kill the earth. Trees are apart of our natural
environment, they produce the oxygen we all need to breathe. If we as whole continue to kill our
Earth, tree by tree. We will be faced with global desertification and many other environmental
problems. Deforestation occurs mainly because of the major increase economic development. The
increasing production of roads, cattle farming, dams, agricultural farming, and much more. The
history of land use concerning deforestation, is closely related to farming and cattle ranching. In the
Amazon, cattle ranching is a major problem resulting in the increase of deforestation. Having over
200 million cattle in the Amazon, Brazil is the leading export of cattle in the world. Cattle ranching
takes up a lot of space, so just think of all the millions of trees that have to be cut down to make
space for these humongous ranches. It's the same thing with regular farming. Small farmers will
clear a few acres of trees then burn them, just so they can have room for their farms.

Modest Tragedy Of Deforestation And Degradation
Deforestation As you are reading this, sixty seconds from now approximately over 100 acres and

estimated 140 species of rainforest plants and animals go extinct every day. That is the equivalent of
at least 42 million acres of tropical forests in Asia, Africa, and Latin America are lost each year, an
area the size of the state of Washington (RFA). Now some may say in a geographical perspective the
continents listed above are not in correlation to North America's natural resources, but it is of vital

The rate of deforestation we globally are participating in is making this possible. Just like any plant
or animal evolution occurs in microorganisms, and the more we create and produce antibiotics to
fight these organisms, they evolve to resist. Now you may be wondering how on Earth does this
correlate with deforestation ? And there is logical answer. Covering only 6 percent of the Earth's
surface, tropical moist forests contain at least half of all species. The abundant botanical resources of
tropical forests have already provided tangible medical advances; yet only 1 percent of the known
plant and animal species have been thoroughly examined for their medicinal potentials (adlife).
Think about this if the Amazon is considered one of the most undiscovered places on earth, and we
continue to slash and burn and deforest at a rapid rate , potentially we can be destroying a cure for
cancer, and other terminal diseases. Approximately 7,000 medical compounds prescribed by
Western doctors are derived from plants (adlife). It is predicted that in 100 years we may have zero
trees left, and is extremely alarming to put into perspective that we may not have medicine 100

The Complexity Of Forest Fires Essay

  • 1. The Complexity Of Forest Fires Essay The Complexity of Forest Fires Case in Indonesia: Exposure on Moral Dimension of the Environmental Policy I. Introduction and Problem Identification Everyone is expected to do the right thing in a society that has a social awareness. The social awareness includes moral behaviour, ethical behaviour and obey the rules. Forest and land fire is a complex environmental problem in Indonesia. In the last 18 years since 1997/1998, forest and land fires happen in every year in Indonesia. The problem is not only because of natural cause but also human action cause. The human cause is from population growth that impacts to the increasing needs of human life and pushes human action in utilizing nature intensively. Therefore as a consequence of human action to the resource of consumption is a threatening to the sustainability of nature and to human itself. Furthermore global climate change phenomenon as an impact of human action also has caused El Nino and impacted to the length of drought season in Indonesia. As a tropical and an archipelago country, Indonesia's weather condition is vulnerable because of climate change. Land and forest area are easily burned and the fire are becoming out of control whenever drought season come. Forest and land fire have caused significant economic losses, human health problem, and damage environment and biodiversity in the area. It also increases tension between Indonesia and other ASEAN countries that have been impacted by haze of forest and land ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. The Pros And Cons Of Slash And Burn Slash and Burn Slash and burn is the cutting down of trees and burning them before new seeds are sown so that a particular piece of land can be cleared. This is a problem that has gone on since after the stone age, this process makes the soil less fertile and its hard for more plants to grow and fruits and vegetables we eat become harder to grow. The affected area will desertificate and nothing can grow there and the damage is permanent or the farmers have to wait until the soil is fertile again but this can take a really long time. Since there are many people doing it large amounts of area are covered every day. If done properly slash and burn agriculture is as sustainable and as productive as more energy intensive agricultural methods. But not everyone knows how to execute this ... Communities don't have any food to harvest to feed themselves or sell in the market The paper industry will have a massive decline in paper production Everyone because the infertile soils cause very small yields, which increases the price of food. Animals would not have any food to eat, they may not grow and food will be scarce. Animals that live on or in trees will be left homeless Everyone will be affected somehow Clean water will be scarce because trees filter precipitation before it enters the streams Air quality will suffer because trees take in carbon dioxide and turn it release oxygen, without trees clean air will be a thing of the past. The climate will be severely affected because trees help regulate the temperature to a norm, and without them we can expect extreme climates. • 5. Swidden Farming and the Logging Industry in Indonesia... With over 130 million hectares of forest area, Indonesia has the third largest forest in the world. These forests are home to many diverse wildlife and unique creatures not found naturally anywhere else in the world. Before the 1950's, these forests were dense and in a natural balance. With the introduction of greed in the form of humans and reckless machinery over 60 or so years, Indonesia has won the dubious honour in becoming the "World leader of deforestation". This has led to an unnatural balance and is causing humans to try to control the environment more than they should. They practice the act of Swidden farming just like the indigenous people of those regions have. It is the action of cutting down trees and burning any unnecessary ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These pollutants may remain in the forest area. They can move into the cities and add to the factory released pollutants. Or, they can go over into innocent neighbouring countries and disrupt their lifestyles and their health. In 2013, a pollution cloud from Indonesia covered and filled Singapore. The Pollutant Standards Index surged and obtained a reading of 371. This is the highest level of pollution Singapore has ever had and they did not contribute to the burning. This pollution causes difficulty with navigation and will give a person skin irritations, breathing difficulties, and respiration issues from the polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons found as a by product of Swidden farming. Another issue with pollution from Swidden farming is its exacerbation to global warming. The fires of Swidden forests release greenhouse gases. These gases build up in the atmosphere and keep in infrared radiation. This is the natural way the Earth maintains the temperature. A dense, greenhouse gas atmosphere is not a good idea. Yet, the Indonesian logging industry continues to slash and burn down forests for money. An example of a greenhouse gas rich atmosphere is the atmosphere on the planet Venus. Venus is known to have the highest surface temperature of any known planet. It is unlikely that Earth will become like this but, if the rest of the Earth were like Indonesia, the characteristics will eventually become identical. The increase in carbon emissions in ... • 10. Deforestation Is Bad For The Environment Even though we need trees for many things, deforestation needs to lessen because it causes things to happen to the atmosphere, animals, and humans. Deforestation is bad for the environment. At least half of the world's tropical forests has been cleared. There is about 2,000 trees being cut down per minute. One reason we use deforestation is to help the economy. Trees provide a lot of important renewable resources that help our nation and other nations grow. Trees are cut down to make paper and other things, which when bought, gives our economy money. Another reason is to create room for crops and other things. Farmers cut down trees to have more room for planting crops. Sometimes, farmers will clear a few acres to feed their families by cutting and burning the trees, which is known as slash and burn agriculture. Trees are also cut down to make fuel. The trees are sometimes used as charcoal and timber. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 12. Saul Hudson Saul Hudson was born to an African American mother and British father in London on July 23, 1965 and even though he was born in London he was raised for most of his life in Los Angeles, California. Saul was given the nickname "Slash", by a family friend because he was very energetic and constantly in motion growing up. He is now known as slash by everyone, and he says that the only two people that call him by his first real name are, his mom and his doctor. Slash learned to play the guitar as a teenager with Robert Wolin, a teacher at Fairfax Music School but he soon lost interest in schoolwork and took up BMX racing, later he became more interested in playing the guitar and gave up his biking. Hollywood Rose is another band he played guitar with, which also included Axl Rose and Izzy Stradlin. But overall his first band was the Tidus Sloan band. Slash always uses Gibson Les Paul guitars of various colors, with very few exceptions, his first guitar was a 1970/80s Memphis Les Paul, he started moving on to funky looking guitars such as the 1978/79 B.C. Rich Mockingbird and the B.C. Rich Warlock, after using a couple of non–Gibson guitars he moved on and used for the most part, Gibson guitars, his coolest one to me would be the 1967 Gibson EDS–1275 which looks like two guitars in one, he owns two of these I believe. • 16. Wildfires Research Paper Based off information publicly provided by the United States National Forest service, In the year of 2015 17 of the 56 of the United States wildfires were prescribed or a controlled burn. To save you from doing the math, that is 30% of the total amount of fires, that is 247,639 of the 815,753 acres that burned. That is 247,639 acres of pristine North American forest that is lost. Therefore the question that needs to be brought to the table is, are prescribed or controlled wildfires a waste of human energy? With little hesitation from the information that I have gathered will tell you yes. The fact of the matter is wildfires are beneficial to the soil, but is hard to control, and is harmful to humans. The U.S. National Forest should change ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These gases include but are not limited to "carbon monoxide, methane... and hydrocarbons" (Flower 1). When you inhale too much of these harmful gases you may be at risk for " Breathing problems, bronchitis... Asthma, and chest pains." (Flower 1). Along with these harmful gases are particles referred to as microns. Microns are sharp dust and smoke particles that are very harsh on your lungs and enter your bloodstream and can harm your vital organs. For small children, the elderly, and those who already suffer from respiratory problems, heart problems and diabetes, ten or more micrograms of microns per cubic centimeters can be extremely agonizing or fatal (Honn 1). Reaching that amount of microns can happen in two different ways. The first and most rare way is that, the density of microns comes straight from the smoke of one tree, which is rare because less than a percent of tree's in the world can do that. The second way is that the smoke sits in one area and builds up its density due to lack of wind or rain. Regardless of how a wildfire starts the smoke it dissipates into the air is harmful to humans, therefore there is no need to "fuel the flame" by having controlled or prescribed burns. The smoke that is being released into the air that we breathe is not controllable by humans, but then ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Every day, he tried to act as normal as possible when near them, but they kept remembering that he was an alien, which broke his plans. Damien didn't know what to do about the Snowboard Kids. One day, he came up with the ultimate prank––to make them sneeze. Damien quietly went to Slash's house while he was at school and went into the kitchen. He saw that the ceiling fan was off, and when he saw a nearby pepper shaker, he came up with an evil plan to make the Kids sneeze. • 22. Gender Roles A Self Fulling Prophecy Essay This cycle can negatively impact the author's life and the reader's life, whether they know it or not, because as they read or write harmfully gendered relationships, they subconsciously affirm the "truths" portrayed in the fiction and spread these beliefs to other readers. In other words, damaging gender roles appear right and natural, because they are so often depicted in the media as right and natural, with relationships healthy based on equality being rarely offered as the alternative. This makes heteronomrative gender roles a self–fulling prophecy–with people performing these stereotypes, because they are presented as the norm. If feminized male characters serve as the stand– in for the female reader, then fanfictions that depicts the "feminine" as mentally and physically less able than the "masculine" must contribute to this vicious cycle as well. In addition, the masculine gender role often exemplifies the type of behavior considered "natural" for men. In American culture, part of this "natural" masculine gender role assumes that men will be complicit ,if not actively participating, in patriarchal culture and the poisonous values often associated with it. The traditional masculine model is made to seem so "right" that men portraying this gender role, and the women reading about this gender role, are made to believe that the domination and exploitation of women, and even other men, is not just expected, but demanded (Carter 2011). • 24. Deforestation : Did The Mayan Way Of Deforestation Change... Deforestation: Did the Mayan's way of deforestation change the climate? It is widely known climate change is occurring because of multiple factors including greenhouse gases, human activity, and some scientists say solar irradiance. What most people do not know or simply have not thought of is how far back in history was climate change a problem or if it was an issue for early civilizations. It is apparent that early civilizations weakened for several reasons, but one reason in particular is affecting the world today. One particular civilization that is popular for their agriculture are the Mayans. The Maya empire occupied land that is now Guatemala. They were the most dominant native people before the 16th century and were intelligent in the way they did agriculture. With new research available, it is plausible to say the Mayans, did in fact, change the climate due to their way of deforestation. Environmental effects of deforestation are pressing. Due to the significant amount of tree lost, animals have lost shelter, regulates temperatures, increased greenhouse gases, less water in the air to be returned to the soil, and soil erosion. There are different methods of deforestation which include clean–cut, selective logging, perennial shade, and the most used, slash–and–burn. Slash–and–burn is mostly used by small farmers and ranch owners in the tropics including the famous Amazon rainforest. • 26. Deforestation Problems To this day, the human population has grown to over 7.5 billion consumers. With that number and the grand demand for wood grow exponentially. This grand consumption of the earth's natural resources has caused severe problems to the land, the wildlife, and ultimately to the survival of every living being on the planet. Deforestation, the felling of trees for the purpose of transporting, selling, and purchasing has caused dire diminishment to the planet's natural resources. Scientist and researchers are looking for plausible solutions. Human Impact and Deforestation ` Earth is like a math problem, and its solution requires every component or else it falls apart. Deforestation is taking away all of our trees, a vital component, from around the world. Deforestation is a process where trees are felled to be transported, bought and or to be sold. Our forests cover over 30 percent of our world's surface,it is the home for many endangered animals who find shelter in them. Trees produce crucial elements such as oxygen, but these vital trees are going to disappear soon due to deforestation. What was such a green world has now succumbed to a brown, barren, and desolate land, and humans have everything to do with it. Humans cause deforestation by, agriculture, illegal logging and for housing, this spurs researchers to help produce a solution, Even though the problem is easily seen on the outside, the real issue lies within the 7.5 billion consumers who are okay and are uneducated ... • 36. Environmental Issues In Madagascar Essay Environmental issues exist in Madagascar because of the problems that our society composes. Worst of all, Madagascar continues to face an economic depression and as well as losing the land that animals use to roam freely. Many countries around the world depend on the island's significant natural resources. Sadly with a blink of an eye, the beauty of the island disappears without anyone taking charge. Karin Brulliard exposes the problems in Madagascar with a statement throughout her narration: Years of deforestation and slash–and–burn agriculture left just 10 percent of Madagascar's original vegetation and protecting what remains is an urgent concern of international conservation groups. That effort has made great strides in the past three decades, they say, through programs to expand protected areas and encourage sustainable farming (Brulliard). Despite the fact that citizens in Madagascar are destitute and need the forest's resources, citizens of Madagascar have caused the destruction of their homeland through their irresponsible farming practices and illegal trades. Although deforestation has occurred for hundreds of years, the number of cases in which forests have vanished has increased. When the forest is being cut down dramatically, the habitats of many animals are being taken away, making it harder for animals to stay alive. • 40. Deforestation And Its Effects On Deforestation Essay Deforestation is "the act of cutting or burning down all of the trees in an area." The original area covered by forests was approximately six billion hectares, however the total area of land covered by forests today is only four billion hectares. The issue is only expanding, and its challenges are becoming tougher every day. In fact, approximately sixteen million hectares of forest disappear each year. Forests cover more than twenty five percent of the world's land, and more than half of that is found in the tropics. Deforestation has been around for more than five decades, and humanity has only just begun to find the causes of the problem. Forests cover approximately thirty percent of the world's land. Deforestation represents one of the world's largest issues in global land usage. In fact, humans are one of the biggest influences for deforestation. Farmers use a method known as the "slash and burn" process to cut down trees and grow their crops in the soil fertilized by the ashes. Many people use commercial logging, a process in which trees are trimmed and transported in order to build mills, by chopping down vast areas of forest for profit. Wildfires and overgrazing are also large issues that contribute to deforestation. This leaves the forest vulnerable to many global and environmental consequences. Everyday carbon dioxide is returned to the atmosphere as a greenhouse gas when trees are burned, and this has great potential to alter the global climate. As a result, there ... • 42. Crimes Of Pygmy Case Summary Question One Cephu had committed many crimes, one being what is probably one of the most heinous crimes in Pygmy eyes, and one that rarely occurs. His first and less major sin was to refuse to share and participate with the other hunters and families. He had gone off to make a camp and fire of his own, even though the group was supposed to be working together and had a mutualistic relationship. His other crime was the major one and what everyone in the camp had been waiting for. Not only did he name a dead woman, an unheard offense but also he denied that she was his mother. Even though there was only the most distant relationship, and that by marriage, it was equivalent to asserting that he did not belong to the same group as Ekianga and Manyalibo and the rest. Even though Cephu had committed a heinous crime, the case was settled simply and effectively. He was ignored and not offered a chair and had his food taken away from him and was ignored by the men in his camp. All of these actions may seem small but in the eyes of a Pygmy, none of these actions/punishments were quickly forgotten. Kelemoke had also committed a very serious crime; he had committed the crime of incest. Kelemoke tried to take refuge in a hut, but he was turned away with angry remarks, and a burning log was thrown after him. At this point three girls came running out of Cephu 's camp, right into the middle of the clearing. They carried knives and were shouting curses at Kelemoke and his family all while ... What most people do not know or simply have not thought of is how far back in history was climate change a problem or if it was an issue for early civilizations. It is apparent that early civilizations weakened for several reasons, but one reason in particular is affecting the world today. Not only slash–and–burn increases climate change, but also was a problem after 2–3 years of using the soil, it would erode and reduce the nutrients, resulting in insufficient growth of crops. After the soil erodes, the process was repeated, but in a different area. It is an effective method if practiced by smaller land and a smaller population. Since the population of the Mayan empire expanded, more trees were needed to provide essential needs. The endless cycle of slash and burn increasingly became severe for the Mayans. The lack of trees allowed greater amounts of CO2 to be released into the atmosphere. The top country that has the highest deforestation is Brazil. Deforestation not only opposes a threat to the climate and habitat loss, it also causes problems for people living in Brazil and other countries near Brazil. Mass deforestation can put these people at risk of losing their livelihood. Soil erosion can add waste into drinking water systems making the water non–drinkable. Burning trees add carbon dioxide to our atmosphere and removing trees lowers the number of trees available to transform carbon dioxide into oxygen. Yanomami is located in the Amazon forest, in the south of Venezuela and northern Brazil and is one of the largest tribes in the Amazon. This group has an appealing history, because of the aggressive way they responded to anthropologists who tried to investigate more about them. Due to their reactions against anthropologist, it is a challenge to do a research in their lifestyle. Their method of subsistence is considered old–fashioned. The economic system is based in foraging and trades, and recently they started using the horticulture. "Horticulture can be defined as farming without the use of technologies like the plow, irrigation, fertilizer or draft animals." (Eller, 134) Talk about their economic system is interesting because, as an indigenous group their resources are limited and they have not good relationship with the western civilization. In that case she explained how the black women were still treated as slaves in those years, but some were allowed into the households to take care of the family's chores such as taking care of the children, cleaning and cooking meals. Taking this concept into the reading of Slash, knowing I would have to find an advantage to this once horrible concept, was strange to me. Their music has a unique sound with influences from heavy metal and hair metal/glam metal periods. One song that illustrates both of these musical influences is the song "Welcome to the Jungle" on the album "Appetite for Destruction". The members of Guns N' Roses got their start as a band in Los Angeles, California. At the time of their band rising to fame, America was still in the transition of heavy metal becoming a mainstream genre again. Although metal was present throughout the 1980's it was not until the late 80's when it achieved mainstream success. The popular music genres at the time were hip–hop, electronic music, soft rock, alternative rock, and pop music. Country music was also a popular genre of music in the early 1980's but eventually got less popular. We will be faced with global desertification and many other environmental problems. Deforestation occurs mainly because of the major increase economic development. The increasing production of roads, cattle farming, dams, agricultural farming, and much more. The history of land use concerning deforestation, is closely related to farming and cattle ranching. In the Amazon, cattle ranching is a major problem resulting in the increase of deforestation. Having over 200 million cattle in the Amazon, Brazil is the leading export of cattle in the world. Cattle ranching takes up a lot of space, so just think of all the millions of trees that have to be cut down to make space for these humongous ranches. It's the same thing with regular farming. Modest Tragedy Of Deforestation And Degradation Deforestation As you are reading this, sixty seconds from now approximately over 100 acres and roughly about 2,000 trees are being destroyed at an alarming rate worldwide. As a result an estimated 140 species of rainforest plants and animals go extinct every day. That is the equivalent of at least 42 million acres of tropical forests in Asia, Africa, and Latin America are lost each year, an area the size of the state of Washington (RFA). Just like any plant or animal evolution occurs in microorganisms, and the more we create and produce antibiotics to fight these organisms, they evolve to resist. Now you may be wondering how on Earth does this correlate with deforestation ? And there is logical answer. Covering only 6 percent of the Earth's surface, tropical moist forests contain at least half of all species. The abundant botanical resources of tropical forests have already provided tangible medical advances; yet only 1 percent of the known plant and animal species have been thoroughly examined for their medicinal potentials (adlife). Think about this if the Amazon is considered one of the most undiscovered places on earth, and we continue to slash and burn and deforest at a rapid rate , potentially we can be destroying a cure for cancer, and other terminal diseases. Approximately 7,000 medical compounds prescribed by Western doctors are derived from plants (adlife). It is predicted that in 100 years we may have zero trees left, and is extremely alarming to put into perspective that we may not have medicine 100 years from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
