Wildfire Rachel Platten Analysis
While from the outside Rachel Platten's album "Wildfire" which was top five on the Billboard 200
charts. Might look like a common pop album, it is really Platten experimenting with different styles
to find what she wants her sound to truly be. Throughout the album Platten seems to have been
using the different genres and styles that she had been influenced by to create the different sounds
that are present throughout. Throughout "Wildfire" Platten goes from a mellow pop sound in
"Speechless," to a country feel in "Lone Ranger," to mix of pop and R&B in "You Don't Know My
Heart." Platten uses her summer hit "Fight Song" which took the charts by storm to include the
classic pop sound that her fans came to love about her. Platten uses her duet with Andy Grammar
"Hey Hey Hallelujah" to create a song that has the Rap bridge that is common in many pop duets,
Platten also uses the song to show that she is not only a smooth and mellow performer but that she
can also create a rougher sound with her music. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Palm Oil : How It Is Impacting Our Planet
Palm Oil – How It Is Impacting Our Planet
Palm oil has many popular uses in the world today. Its production has also caused great concern for
the impact it has on the planet, especially due to deforestation. Palm oil is a vegetable oil that comes
from the fruit of the African oil palm tree and can be found in roughly 50% of packaged goods
found in your local grocery store. It is the most widely produced edible oil.
Oil palms were brought to South–East Asia in the early 20th century. The main demand for the
industry 's expansion is believed to have come from the British Industrial Revolution. At that point
in time, 250,000 tons of palm oil were being exported annually from South–East Asia and today that
number exceeds fifty–five million tons.
The commercially grown oil palms are planted in large plantations. They can be found growing
throughout Malaysia, Indonesia and other tropical countries within 10˚ of the equator. They produce
more oil than any other crop on the planet and can be harvested for up to 25 years. After this time,
the trees are chopped down and replanted because the plantation workers can no longer reach the
fruit bundles. Oil palms have an average annual oil output of approximately 10 tons per acre of land.
A palm produces up to 12 fruit bunches each year and can contain 1000–3000 fruits.
Palm oil is produced at a lower cost than other vegetable oils. Supply and demand for palm oil is
increasing dramatically. While it is used in a wide variety of

The Worldwide Problem of Deforestation
Deforestation is an increasingly prevalent problem worldwide. About half of the forests that once
covered the Earth are now gone, much of which has happened in just the past few decades. Forests
have been cleared mostly for fuel, building materials, and land for farming. Deforestation has been
expanding and accelerating into the little amount of forests that remain across the world. Not only
do forests provide useful products, but they also influence the Earth's climate and are home to a
remarkable amount of biological diversity. Deforestation has taken a lot of these elements away, and
has also led to an increase in carbon dioxide. Without trees to use the increasing amounts of carbon
dioxide put out by humans, the carbon dioxide simply remains in the atmosphere.
Until recently, most of the deforestation happened in Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. In the last
few decades though, the majority of deforestation has occurred in the tropics. It is estimated that
"Latin America and Asia have already lost 40% of their original forest" (University of Michigan). In
most of these countries, deforestation is also accelerating. There are many causes for deforestation,
including population pressure, social and political forces, and profits. The increasing need for palm
oil in today's world accounts for much of the deforestation occurring in many tropical countries such
as Indonesia. Palm oil is extremely versatile and is used in cooking, cosmetics, and biofuels.

The Orangutans: The Sustainable Palm Oil Industry
The orangutan, one of the world's great apes, resides on the Indonesian islands of Sumatra and
Borneo. The forests of these islands are being destroyed in order to create palm oil plantations. Palm
oil is in high demand due to its uses as a biofuel and as a vegetable oil. The palm oil industry is a
major threat to the survival of the critically endangered orangutans, due to loss of habitat. This leads
to illegal poaching since the orangutans are viewed as pests, leaving many young infants orphaned
and alone. There are rescue groups that rehabilitate these great apes, but more must be done in order
to prevent the extinction of this rapidly declining species. Sustainable palm oil options need to be
researched and utilized and there should ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Orangutans have long lifespans (30–40 years) with long interbirth intervals and low reproductive
rates. In fact, females have eight year intervals between births and will only give birth to one or two
offspring in her lifetime. The reason why this poses a problem is that when an enormous amount of
orangutans are killed, it's tough to recover because they are not producing large numbers of children
nor do they have short interbirth intervals. Consequently, there will be extremely high death rates
and very few births (UNEP, 2007). Their population numbers will continue to fall because they
won't be able to compensate for the great loss. A study completed by Michael Bruford and Benoit
Goossens at Cardiff University showed that in 1900, there were approximately 315,000 orangutans
in Indonesia. Currently, there are about 60,000 orangutans living in the forests of Indonesia, which
is a massive population decline (Kaye, 2016).When orangutans are driven out of their habitat due to
deforestation and illegal logging it forces them to roam a great distance in search of food.
Orangutans are solitary creatures, spending the majority of their time in the trees. Their diet relies
mainly on fruit, with a preference for fruit with soft pulp. They also eat buds, flowers, leaves, soil
tree bark, and some insects. Due to their largely frugivorous diet, they have to monitor the seasonal
availability of resources. When fruit is abundant, they will increase their food intake and store the
food as fat for energy. This enables them to eat low quality food items in habitats where fruit may be
scarce (Delgado & Van Schaik, 2000). The dipterocarp forests of Borneo and Sumatra have trees
that fruit simultaneously, so there is an abundance of fruit once every 2 to 5 years which are known
as the "mast years". During the other years there is not as much fruit, so orangutans have to maintain
large home ranges in

Swidden Farming and the Logging Industry in Indonesia...
With over 130 million hectares of forest area, Indonesia has the third largest forest in the world.
These forests are home to many diverse wildlife and unique creatures not found naturally anywhere
else in the world. Before the 1950's, these forests were dense and in a natural balance. With the
introduction of greed in the form of humans and reckless machinery over 60 or so years, Indonesia
has won the dubious honour in becoming the "World leader of deforestation". This has led to an
unnatural balance and is causing humans to try to control the environment more than they should.
They practice the act of Swidden farming just like the indigenous people of those regions have. It is

These pollutants may remain in the forest area. They can move into the cities and add to the factory
released pollutants. Or, they can go over into innocent neighbouring countries and disrupt their
lifestyles and their health. In 2013, a pollution cloud from Indonesia covered and filled Singapore.
The Pollutant Standards Index surged and obtained a reading of 371. This is the highest level of
pollution Singapore has ever had and they did not contribute to the burning. This pollution causes
difficulty with navigation and will give a person skin irritations, breathing difficulties, and
respiration issues from the polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons found as a by product of Swidden
farming.
Another issue with pollution from Swidden farming is its exacerbation to global warming. The fires
of Swidden forests release greenhouse gases. These gases build up in the atmosphere and keep in
infrared radiation. This is the natural way the Earth maintains the temperature. A dense, greenhouse
gas atmosphere is not a good idea. Yet, the Indonesian logging industry continues to slash and burn
down forests for money. An example of a greenhouse gas rich atmosphere is the atmosphere on the
planet Venus. Venus is known to have the highest surface temperature of any known planet. It is
unlikely that Earth will become like this but, if the rest of the Earth were like Indonesia, the
characteristics will eventually become identical. The increase in carbon emissions in

At this point, the island began to show shape, but rose only several feet above the surface of the
water. The final step was to dredge over 8,500,000 m3 (302,000,000 ft3) of ocean sand onto the top
of the base structure in order to create habitable islands. This sea sand increased the island's height
to 4 m (13 ft) above low tide (6). In order to quickly, yet precisely acquire and distribute the sand,
fleets of dredging vessels and massive transport/delivery ships were brought from a European
manufacturer. Dredging In dredging millions of cubic meters of sea bed, the project used specialized
cutter suction dredgers in order to apply the sand to the desired surface. A cutter suction dredger,
according to the European Dredging Association (EuDA), is a large rig with a powerful underwater
suction tube generally 10 – 100 cm in diameter extended angularly from the centroid of the vessel
with a large crane extending from the rear of the ship to stabilize the tube (7). Due to the dense
makeup of the Persian Gulf, the dredgers had a cutting head at the base of the tube. This head chews
through the rock bed with over 5,000kW cutting power. It was equipped with a massive jet dredge
system powered by a submerged pump attached to the tube to help pull the destroyed bedrock into
the ship (8 & 9). The jet dredge systems create an extreme negative pressure in the pipe, which
creates a basic Bernoulli venturie tube effect.

truth of the mysterious ingredient of palm oil must be spread. It has taken charge as the leading
cause of deforestation, yet leaves the common people uninformed. Palm oil is a type of buttery oil,
similarly alike to vegetable oil and coconut oil (Questions and Answers about Palm Oil). It is
derived from the fruit of oil palms, and it is in roughly half of all products sold in grocery stores
(Last Stand of the Orangutan). For instance it is contained in food like Nutella, and cosmetics like
shampoo (How Many Products with Palm Oil Do I Use in a Day). Palm oil is one of the cheapest

Palm oil is used in anything from food to consumer products. It is even estimated that 10% of all
U.S goceries contain palm oil. The ingredient is used so often because it is considered the cheapest
cooking oil in the world (Questions and Answers about Palm Oil). It is in products as diverse as
Nutella, shampoo, cereals, toothpaste, ice cream, vitamins, detergent, and sometimes even the fuel
in cars. This basically signifies that palm oil is everywhere. Furthermore, there are numerous brands
that supply most of their products using palm oil as a major ingredient. For instance the popular
brands Kraft, Starbucks, General Mills, and Colgate are just a few of them (Gertz). However, if one
were to look under the ingredients list, palm oil could very easily be disguised by a few different
names. A couple of them are palm kernel, palmitic acid, sodium kernelate, stearic acid, and
vegetable fat (Breyer). If one were to check the labels of the products that they were using, they

Nature And Evil In William Golding's Lord Of The Flies
Lord of the Flies
In the beginning, God created the heavens and the Earth. After having created everything on Earth,
He made man. "The Lord God said, 'It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper
suitable for him.'"(NIV Genesis 2:15). Thus, He made Eve from the rib of Adam. God told Adam
and Eve not to eat from the tree of knowledge but the evil serpent, who was craftier than them,
tricked Eve into eating the fruit. Eve later convinced Adam after having argued with him and he
gave in. Both were punished by God for having gone against His word and would suffer the
consequences of it. "So the Lord God banished him from the Garden of Eden to work the ground
from which he had been taken. After He drove the man out, he placed on the east side of the Garden
of Eden a cherubim and a flaming sword flashing back and forth to guard the way to the tree of life"
(Genesis 3:23–24).
This story shows that the evil around us can sometimes deceive us into wrongdoing if we do not
trust our moral instincts or trust those in higher positions than us. William Golding, the author of
Lord of the Flies, used his work to show the public that fear can lead people to destruction and evil
ways if we do not attempt to control the beast within us. The way that Golding showed his audience
this, was by carefully and thoughtfully placing symbolism throughout the novel and in each and
every character. Simon is not the leading protagonist of the novel but he represents Jesus, who

The Soil Degradation Of Nigeria Essay
Soil Degradation in Nigeria
Introduction
Nigeria is a country in West Africa, bordering Benin in the west, Chad and Cameroon in the east,
and Niger in the north. Nigeria is in the tropical zone of Africa (between latitude 4 and 14 degrees
N, and longitude 2 and 14 degrees E), with a vast area of savanna vegetation in the northern part.
The climate is damp, very humid and highly influenced by the combined effects of the ocean, desert,
humidity, temperature, and mainly the variation that exist in the amount of rainfall in each region.
This alone forms a major influence on the type of vegetation found in various regions in the country.
The activities of human such as farming, mining, deforestation, and including other natural factors is
said to be the cause of land degradation, which is also seen as a decline in land or soil quality of the
country, Nigeria.
However, some regions in the country are now undesirable for agricultural practices leading
shortage of food supply and economic implications, such as low–income. In this article, I will be
discussing the following:
1. Agro–ecological zones
2. Soil and water (rainfall)
3. Causes of Soil Degradation
4. Effects of Soil Degradation in Nigeria
5. Solutions of Soil Degradation
Agro–Ecological Zones
There is mountainous vegetation in the plateau regions of Nigeria. Before soil depreciation or
degradation that is at an increase today in the country, I will like to discourse the different agro–

Palm oil is an edible plant oil which has become a common ingredient in many consumer products.
Today, around 50 percent of the goods we use every day contain palm oil, from processed foods to
candles, grooming products and "biofuels". Worldwide demand for palm oil has increased sharply

A Study On Vegetable Oils
Many people don't know which oil is healthy for you, and what it's really used for. In the past, oils
were not used the way they are today. There are literally hundreds of edible oils–it's no wonder
there's confusion. In this section, we'll have a look at the top oils. The media would have you believe
that vegetable oils are very healthy for you, but the research that has been conducted is stating
otherwise. Vegetable oils are actually known as seed oils, and these kinds of oils turns into
dangerous trans fats. This kind of fat has been proven to cause brain atrophy, as well as heart
disease, cancer, obesity, and diabetes. Trans fats are also commonly found in foods that have been
processed. If the food is labeled "hydrogenated" or "partially hydrogenated," that means trans fat.
Many countries around the world have banned vegetable oils due to the link between its use and
health risks. The risk of trans fats is so real that it was banned in New York back in 2006, with the
full ban to be in effect by July 2008. The FDA has stated that they, too, have even thought about
banning trans fats in the form of hydrogenated oils. Trans fats have been linked to chronic
inflammation, if you have allergies or arthritis, dermatitis, or colitis, you might be consuming too
many trans fats. Chronic inflammation is one of the leading causes of the seven out of ten causes of
death: heart disease, cancer, chronic lower respiratory disease, stroke, Alzheimer's, diabetes, and

History
Acai berries commonly found in the United States come from the Amazonian region of Brazil.
Traditionally, the berry juice was used for nutrition, medicinal healing and as a natural dye. The
juice can be mixed with ice cream, chocolates, and liquor.
In 2008, acai berries found fame when Dr. Oz mentioned their potential effects and benefits on
Oprah Winfrey's show. Diet pill companies were quick to claim endorsements by the celebrity
surgeon, Rachel Ray and Oprah herself. It was not long before unscrupulous manufacturers began
tying celebrity names to their products without consent. Diet pill companies created blogs and entire
marketing campaigns based on false claims that acai berries had the ability to boost weight loss.
These claims were proven to be unfounded. The companies were later found to be involved in credit
card fraud scams aimed at unsuspecting consumers who signed up for their free trials.
Oprah, Rachel Ray and Dr. Oz attempted to distance themselves from the controversy. Acai–fueled
weight loss claims have not been proven by science, and the celebrities who were inadvertently

The Impact Of Deforestation And Its Environmental Impact
Deforestation and its environmental impact
Deforestation is the action of clearing a wide area of trees. Twenty percent of the world's rainforest
has been destroyed because of deforestation. Forests cover about 30% of the planet. Deforestation is
clearing forests on a massive scale. National geographic stated that "The world's rainforest could
completely vanish in a hundred years at the current rate of deforestation." (NG 2015)
The cause of deforestation is from number of things. Some are unintentional and some are intentions
clearings. The number one cause of deforestation is agriculture. Farmers buy forested lands to clear
and replant crops for harvest. Farmers also buy land for grazing animals. Cattle ranching is the
leading cause of deforestation in the Amazon. Many times deforestation is caused from illegal
farming and cutting. 49% of all deforestation is illegal (FT 2015) Another leading cause for
deforestation is logging. Logging other wise known as foresting. Other causes are wildfires caused
unintentionally by people and subsequent overgrazing.
Deforestation causes many large problems for the environment and society. The largest issue is the
destruction of habitats. The loss of habitat affects millions of species. Eighty percent of Earth's land
animals and plants live in forests. Deforestation is beginning to kill off species because many
species cannot survive the deforestation that destroys their homes. Deforesting ruins biodiversity

There was one night that was different though, my new novel detailing the events of a fictional
reality where monsters and dark forces lurked around every corner had just been approved and was
soon to be published. It was one of the most exciting points in my life as it had detailed the
beginning of my professional career as an author.
A month had passed and my book had already won three awards, it seemed as though everyone was
talking about my work and that I had blown up almost instantly overnight. Even with all the success
and how it was almost universally loved by all, my book had managed to become a central topic by
school boards across the world. Talk of censoring my work in schools soon had become common. A
novel that I believed to be a masterpiece was soon to never be seen in an academic scene even again.
My agent and I had thought of this as nothing more than insulting and childish behavior by the
people who ran the school boards and controlled the education of our future successors. To not let
ideas, flow freely and allow them to circulate was nothing short of blasphemy to any reasonable
author. Two weeks passed and it was made clear that my book was to not be used in almost any
academic scene in the US.
Through this event I had grown as both an author and a person, I spent the next two years create the

Ideo Case Study
Case Study Analysis: IDEO Product Development
The business model for IDEO began as an open–minded place to design, develop and manufacture
new products. The last 20 years of proven product design driven by innovation has translated into
profit margins for their clients and continuous refinement for IDEO's process. IDEO pioneered
"concurrent engineering" where design and engineering work together to produce aesthetically
pleasing products that are also highly functional. This was different from many other similar
companies that placed more emphasis on the industrial design than the engineering. IDEO's
strengths grew out of the ability to master this ability with high tech clients. Corporations came to
IDEO because they had a proven ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the past Palm projects design had been ignored in order to favor "bells and whistles" directed
toward male customers. This new Palm was to appeal to the customer on the emotional level as well
as the aesthetic level.
What may have been missing from the innovation formula at IDEO in 2000 was the philosophy of
customer experience. This is the way many corporate brands like Starbucks have been handled to be
an experience, not just a product. It is no longer sufficient to simply tell customers about the product
features or benefits. The brand must create a visceral connection with customers – they have to
participate in the journey emotionally. Product development must be geared with the customer in
mind and the customer must be engaged more often in research.
The Handspring Visor project however, was more of a challenge for all team members, and the goal
was to shatter existing norms by further reducing the physical parameters of the product. It also
challenged accepted user interface protocol. This would challenge the team members at IDEO to
"fail less often", so they would be able to "succeed even sooner", but the real problems were the cost
and time limitations put on the project by Handspring. Would sacrificing steps in IDEO's
development process lead to an inferior product? The evidence would come later, but initially,

Acai Berry Research Paper
Seems like the acai berry is the trendy new super food and a plethora of diet supplement
manufacturers are jumping on the little purple fruit bandwagon. Native to the Amazon Rain Forest,
the berry grows on trees in clusters and has been consumed by natives for years. Users claim that the
acai berry offers up more vitamins and minerals than blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, and any
other berry for that matter. Like other manufacturers that are using the acai berry today, makers of a
diet supplement called Acai Berry Blast, utilize the acai berry in their product and claim that taking
it will purge toxins from your body, boost your energy, aid in weight lose, and just help you feel
better all round. The fact is that the berry is loaded with antioxidants, is rich in vitamins and

Leadership Styles At Consulate Health Care Of West Palm Beach
Section 1 – Introduction
This project discovers and defines the leadership styles founded at Consulate Health Care of West
Palm Beach. I would like to mention two managers in this research paper, both working for the same
company but with two different leadership styles. I will be comparing and contrasting their
leadership styles, as well as making some suggestions based on the information provided. This
organization was recently acquired by Consulate Health Care. Before that, Tandem Group was the
owner of it, where the leadership style was quite different. As of today, this facility has an Executive
Director who is in charge of all operations, as well as leading and managing. Consulate Health Care
of West Palm Beach has a well design hierarchy structure, and every member of it contributes to the
regular operations of the facility. With the recently change of our CEO, the company has been
focusing in its employees and how to lead them, instead of managing.
Section II – Background
Consulate Health Care of West Palm Beach is a rehabilitation center, where it has space for 120
residents (that is how they call their patients). The majority of these residents are long term and have
been living in this facility for over two years. This branch is situated in West Palm Beach and it was
open back in 1997, formerly known as Tandem Health Care. As of today, it has 150 employees,

He co–founded Handspring in 1998, and created the Visor, "whose thrift and expandability forced

time as CEO with handspring there was no definitive answer. Hawkins Business model seemed
more like a question. "How do you make an exciting product that's pushing the envelope in some
ways, but on the other hand is usable and accessible to a very broad populace?"(Barnett, 2000).
Hawkins had a business model that relied on strategic partners to perform business tasks such as
manufacturing and distribution. Hawkins strategy is to generate ideas to promote increased
efficiency and cost reduction while striving to predict future consumer needs. For example, the
Visor "can morph into just about any handheld device you can imagine, from a pager to an MP3
player to a global–positioning satellite receiver, simply by replacing a small module on its back"
(Time, Inc., 2005). Leadership Successful leaders continuously show connections between vision
and strategies. Mr. Hawkins exhibits many leadership qualities that inspire confidence and belief in
the future. Jeff is able to articulate a vision depicting where he wants his organization or team to be.

How Does Landscape Affect The Environment?
Today 's date September 20, 2016, currently I note 1800 hours on the dot during a Tuesday evening.
So far the nights weather seems warm, with a high of eighty, slightly overcast with a slight breeze.
The weatherman is calling for some rain and thunderstorms for the surrounding areas. Hopefully, it
doesn 't rain while we excavate this site, making it nearly impossible to accomplish what we came
here for. Now to describe the site; landscape has a mixture of big boulders with smaller rocks
throughout the site. There are two big trees, one on the north side of the property and the other one
located on the south side of the property. The site has a six–foot high brick and mason fence
surrounding the property. Possibly using the fence line to keep it privatize, or to keep wild animals
from entering the property. The fence has collapsed and deteriorated in some areas surrounding the
property. A variety of plants and shrubs have also caught my eye as another observation. At one
point plants were planted along the fence, possibly to help with shade or privacy. The type of plants
that I observe are possibly the kinds that creep along fences with bushes strategically placed along
the property. What I gather is a sitting area with a small fire pit in the center. There 's a good chance
it was used for cooking and or possibly to maintain warm at night. To the right of the fire pit, it
appears to have been some sort of covering that existed. The Covering was possibly used to block

Brazilian Government Intervention: Acai Berry Essay examples
The Brazilian acai berry has been a food staple for low income families for years and a cultural
symbol for generations. This berry is vital in Brazil, where it is farmed and, until recently had a
relatively small market. However, after an Oprah interview the demand for acai has become an
international affair. The rising demand has created a free market; however the once inexpensive food
staple has become too expensive for the low income families. This report will analyse the current
markets advantages and disadvantages, followed by two possible government intervention models.
The examined interventions will be export tariff and price ceiling.

This is shown as the price greatly increases and the quantity decreases slightly. It is also important to
note that the Acai palm has strict conditions of where is can grow, and although the palm is
ecologically sustainable the supply will not continually increase with the demand (Brondizio, 2011).
This will cause further problems as the demand continues to grow, the low income families who
need the berry as a staple food will be unable to afford acai. Free markets are considered inequitable
because of the lack of equality; if the government were to intervene they would promote equity. The
Brazilian government could stabilise the economy and lower inflation and promote economic
growth (Coglan, 2013, pg312). The export tariff is something that the Brazilian government should
consider as a possible solution. By imposing an export tax fewer companies will export acai;
preferring the tax free domestic market. This will shift the supply curve to the right, causing the
domestic cost of the berry to decrease as seen in figure 4. In the international market, the reduced
supply will cause the price to increase, benefiting the local producers.
The proceeds of the tariff would go to the Brazilian government, as shown by the purple rectangle
from figure 3. This could possibly be used to support the producers or the low income families. If
the government did intervene then they could control price fluctuations; if the production levels
were small, the Brazilian

A Completely New World Sometimes the most impactful events can emerge from the most common
occasions. For instance, on another insignificant summer day, in the Southwest corner of Minnesota,
I was passing my free time playing videogames, hanging out with friends, and working at HyVee. In

San Diego, California. Soon, I would leave my summer for the big city. Here there would be

swimming in a Minnesota lake. The waves were fun to dodge or body surf on, because of their
enormous size. Also, there were tons of people at every beach we visited. It was a good thing that
there was so much shoreline because even with the huge amount of shoreline, it was still crowded.
Another thing I got to see firsthand was the surfers. One side of the beach was marked off for
swimming and the other for surfers. Before this trip, I had never seen anyone surf and it was
entertaining to watch them take a wave from so far away from shore and ride it all the way back into

La Semana Santa Is the Spanish Name for Holy Week
La Semana Santa is the Spanish name for Holy Week. Holy Week is the week previously to
Easter, according to the Catholic calendar. It represents the last week of Jesus's life as he entered the
city of Jerusalem. The week starts out with Palm Sunday. Palm Sunday was the day that Jesus first
entered Jerusalem, and as he was entering people worshipping him were laying down their clothing
items for the donkey Jesus was riding to walk on, and they were fanning him with palms. The Last
Supper is also celebrated during Holy Week. The Last Supper took place on the night before Jesus
was crucified on the cross. The Supper was held by Jesus so that he could gather his twelve disciples
and enjoy a meal with them for the last time. Jesus' twelve disciples were chosen by God to spread
the word of Christianity. To be Jesus' loyal followers and to worship him and God. After the Last
Supper Jesus took his disciples into a forest to pray to God all night, in hopes that He would help
them the next day, as Jesus was to be crucified. On Good Friday, Jesus was crucified. The reason he
was hung upon the cross, is that he was accused of committing crimes by the Romans. The Romans
disapproved of the sensation Jesus was creating, and the Romans were afraid he could overthrow
their government. Jesus was betrayed, as he was crucified the next day, Good Friday. As Jesus was
God's only son, God had to allow Jesus to die on the cross that day. Seemingly betraying Jesus, God
allowed for him to die on the

A Research Study On Primate Conservation
Primate conservation has long been a topic of debate, reliant most heavily on the struggle to provide
the necessary resources to combat the declining rate of population growth among various species.
Orangutans in particular, both Sumatran and Bornean, have experienced a rapid drop in their free–
living populations. With an estimate of only 27,000 left in the wild, questions have been raised over
what selective pressures are impacting the steady decline of these animals existence. While hunting
and poaching have been identified as contributing factors, habitat loss primarily takes center stage in
their demise. Conservation efforts have been made and continue to be somewhat successful,
however, challenges and set backs continue to threaten ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They also consume a wide variety of other food sources including leaves, seeds, pith, fungi, honey,
termites, and even small mammals. Orangutans are known to spend nearly 95% of their daily
activity budget feeding, resting, and traveling. In fact their day ranges can vary between .056 and
1.9 miles. Likewise, the proportion of their day ranges is directly related to their home ranges.
Because orangutans are so well adapted for the ecological niche they occupy, it is understandable
why their populations suffer when their habitat is destroyed. In fact, in the last 20 years orangutans
have lost nearly 80% of their natural habitat largely due to deforestation. Between the years of 1999
and 2006 roughly 55% of that deforestation was due to the expansion of the palm oil industry.
Furthermore, Indonesia and Malaysia combined account for nearly 87% of the global output of palm
oil with Indonesia generating about 18.7 and Malaysia 17.4 million tons a year. When considering
these statistics, it raises questions about why this industry is seemingly more relevant than
conserving natural resources and more importantly protecting an invaluable species of ape from
extinction. To answer this question, it might be helpful to consider how the vast majority views the
palm oil industry by comparison to the orangutans in terms of economics. Palm oil is a lucrative
business that generates billions of dollars a year. It is

Palm Oil Industry and Its Effects on the Indigenous...
Rainforests are the most diverse biomes on the earth. The rainforest house many different species
and support the lives of the indigenous tribes who depend on the forests for habitat, food, and way
of life. The palm oil companies are spreading to many parts of the world, taking out regions of the
forest in order to make room for their palm oil plantations. Palm oil is found in 50% of products we
use every day from items like shampoo and conditioner to the food we eat (Rainforest Rescue
2013). If the rain forests are fragmented too much, not only will it cause the species to possibly go
extinct but it will cause issues with tribes like the Waorani, who are nomadic and depend on the

In class, we discussed this with the Mbuti as their health decreased as they were brought into city
which has diseases the Mbuti didn't have the immunity for and were further away from the plants
they used for medicine. The forest provides the tribes of Ecuador, like the Waorani, with a natural
resource. The trees naturally filter out all the dirt and sand and particles that are unwanted in your
water. If the forest is depleted much more effort will have to be put into making the water clean,
which is easy in a wealthy society but not for the tribes. They don't have a water treatment system.
Also, the treatment of palm oil plants can affect the fish living in the streams. According to John
Ashley, the managers of these plantations apply very toxic pesticides to these plants which gets into
the water kills the fish and contaminates the drinking water for the locals. This water contamination
has caused the locals to get sick as they drink and use the water for cooking. "The most dangerous
pesticides being applied are Endrin, Aldrin, Dieldrin, and Parathion. ... Eating game contaminated
by Endrin has been known to cause brain damage and birth defects in human beings" (Ashley 1987).
So even after these Palm Oil Plantations leave Ecuador, it will have long term, devastating health
effects on the individuals that are still in Ecuador. So not only do these plantations take away

Policy Recommendations For Indonesia's Environmental Policies
VI. Policy Recommendations
While there is no blanket policy the Indonesian government can pass to magically stop
deforestation, there are a number of steps they can take to slow and hopefully eventually stop it. All
of these steps should address primarily the root cause of the problem, but also the proximate causes.
First and foremost, the government officials responsible for Indonesia's environmental policies
should take the time to become more educated on the impact of environmental problems in their
region. They should visit the affected areas, speak with the indigenous people, and find a way to
understand that deforestation is not just a means for generating a profit, but rather a means for
depriving local people, as well as wildlife, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Republic of Indonesia has approximately 8 Mha of grasslands that can produce palm oil with
little to no biodiversity loss. As mentioned above, oil palm companies harvest in the forest instead of
on the grasslands because they sell the timber they clear cut to hold them over until the oil palm
trees begin to grow. This, however, can be fixed if the government provided subsidies for companies
to develop on the grasslands instead of in the forest. These subsidies could hold the oil palm
producers over until it was time for them to harvest the oil palm trees. Providing this incentive
tackles both misallocation and the government's mismanagement of the forest. Instead of allowing
companies to produce palm oil in the forests, they would be encouraging them to switch to
grasslands by altering the price. The government should not stop there. They should also make it a
lot more difficult, if not impossible, for companies to log and produce palm oil in the areas that they
specifically labeled as conservation and protection forest, as well as require sustainable development
of the production and conversion forests. To do this, the government would need a lot more
manpower for enforcement, something they currently do not have. While, it would be nice if they
could somehow generate the money to hire dozens more people, there are potentially other options.
The government could allow for indigenous people to have a larger role in the saving of their

I Am My Student 's Class English Composition
Sattam Alkahtani Professor Sheyene Heller ENGL 1204 March 25, 2015 Hi, my name is Sattam; I
am your student in class English Composition–I & I would like to introduce myself to you. As a
person, I have an introverted personality type, I like to keep myself restricted to my own business
and I excel, brainstorm and work best in my own individual time. My hobbies majorly include
reading books and writing, just about everything. I think it is vital to write about important things
that matter a lot, and then read them to gain awareness. My writing skills are above average, I am
still in a learning process though, and I feel the need to excel more in this art. My writing experience
includes content writing, writing blogs and articles, academic writing, I have experienced many
formats and types of writings during my state of learning. As a writer, my strengths mainly are to
keep the content precise, without exaggerating it so that the reader can get knowledge of the topic
clearly and to maintain their interest in it. As far as my weaknesses are concerned, I think I still
should work more on the referencing and citations part of writing. As far as my personal approach to
writing is concerned, it is vital for me, from writing daily feelings into a journal to writing full
length essays, the way words make sense in the mind and just keep flowing into sentences that just
fits in I find it one of the most important things that a person can ever have. It is an art and having
some sense of

Wildfire Rachel Platten Analysis

 • 1. Wildfire Rachel Platten Analysis While from the outside Rachel Platten's album "Wildfire" which was top five on the Billboard 200 charts. Might look like a common pop album, it is really Platten experimenting with different styles to find what she wants her sound to truly be. Throughout the album Platten seems to have been using the different genres and styles that she had been influenced by to create the different sounds that are present throughout. Throughout "Wildfire" Platten goes from a mellow pop sound in "Speechless," to a country feel in "Lone Ranger," to mix of pop and R&B in "You Don't Know My Heart." Platten uses her summer hit "Fight Song" which took the charts by storm to include the classic pop sound that her fans came to love about her. Platten uses her duet with Andy Grammar "Hey Hey Hallelujah" to create a song that has the Rap bridge that is common in many pop duets, Platten also uses the song to show that she is not only a smooth and mellow performer but that she can also create a rougher sound with her music. ... • 3. Palm Oil : How It Is Impacting Our Planet Palm Oil – How It Is Impacting Our Planet Palm oil has many popular uses in the world today. Its production has also caused great concern for the impact it has on the planet, especially due to deforestation. Palm oil is a vegetable oil that comes from the fruit of the African oil palm tree and can be found in roughly 50% of packaged goods found in your local grocery store. It is the most widely produced edible oil. Oil palms were brought to South–East Asia in the early 20th century. The main demand for the industry 's expansion is believed to have come from the British Industrial Revolution. At that point in time, 250,000 tons of palm oil were being exported annually from South–East Asia and today that number exceeds fifty–five million tons. The commercially grown oil palms are planted in large plantations. They can be found growing throughout Malaysia, Indonesia and other tropical countries within 10˚ of the equator. They produce more oil than any other crop on the planet and can be harvested for up to 25 years. After this time, the trees are chopped down and replanted because the plantation workers can no longer reach the fruit bundles. Oil palms have an average annual oil output of approximately 10 tons per acre of land. A palm produces up to 12 fruit bunches each year and can contain 1000–3000 fruits. Palm oil is produced at a lower cost than other vegetable oils. Supply and demand for palm oil is increasing dramatically. While it is used in a wide variety of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

 • 5. The Worldwide Problem of Deforestation Deforestation is an increasingly prevalent problem worldwide. About half of the forests that once covered the Earth are now gone, much of which has happened in just the past few decades. Forests have been cleared mostly for fuel, building materials, and land for farming. Deforestation has been expanding and accelerating into the little amount of forests that remain across the world. Not only do forests provide useful products, but they also influence the Earth's climate and are home to a remarkable amount of biological diversity. Deforestation has taken a lot of these elements away, and has also led to an increase in carbon dioxide. Without trees to use the increasing amounts of carbon dioxide put out by humans, the carbon dioxide simply remains in the atmosphere. Until recently, most of the deforestation happened in Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. In the last few decades though, the majority of deforestation has occurred in the tropics. It is estimated that "Latin America and Asia have already lost 40% of their original forest" (University of Michigan). In most of these countries, deforestation is also accelerating. There are many causes for deforestation, including population pressure, social and political forces, and profits. The increasing need for palm oil in today's world accounts for much of the deforestation occurring in many tropical countries such as Indonesia. Palm oil is extremely versatile and is used in cooking, cosmetics, and biofuels. Palm oil ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

 • 7. The Orangutans: The Sustainable Palm Oil Industry The orangutan, one of the world's great apes, resides on the Indonesian islands of Sumatra and Borneo. The forests of these islands are being destroyed in order to create palm oil plantations. Palm oil is in high demand due to its uses as a biofuel and as a vegetable oil. The palm oil industry is a major threat to the survival of the critically endangered orangutans, due to loss of habitat. This leads to illegal poaching since the orangutans are viewed as pests, leaving many young infants orphaned and alone. There are rescue groups that rehabilitate these great apes, but more must be done in order to prevent the extinction of this rapidly declining species. Sustainable palm oil options need to be researched and utilized and there should ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Orangutans have long lifespans (30–40 years) with long interbirth intervals and low reproductive rates. In fact, females have eight year intervals between births and will only give birth to one or two offspring in her lifetime. The reason why this poses a problem is that when an enormous amount of orangutans are killed, it's tough to recover because they are not producing large numbers of children nor do they have short interbirth intervals. Consequently, there will be extremely high death rates and very few births (UNEP, 2007). Their population numbers will continue to fall because they won't be able to compensate for the great loss. A study completed by Michael Bruford and Benoit Goossens at Cardiff University showed that in 1900, there were approximately 315,000 orangutans in Indonesia. Currently, there are about 60,000 orangutans living in the forests of Indonesia, which is a massive population decline (Kaye, 2016).When orangutans are driven out of their habitat due to deforestation and illegal logging it forces them to roam a great distance in search of food. Orangutans are solitary creatures, spending the majority of their time in the trees. Their diet relies mainly on fruit, with a preference for fruit with soft pulp. They also eat buds, flowers, leaves, soil tree bark, and some insects. Due to their largely frugivorous diet, they have to monitor the seasonal availability of resources. When fruit is abundant, they will increase their food intake and store the food as fat for energy. This enables them to eat low quality food items in habitats where fruit may be scarce (Delgado & Van Schaik, 2000). The dipterocarp forests of Borneo and Sumatra have trees that fruit simultaneously, so there is an abundance of fruit once every 2 to 5 years which are known as the "mast years". During the other years there is not as much fruit, so orangutans have to maintain large home ranges in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

 • 9. Swidden Farming and the Logging Industry in Indonesia... With over 130 million hectares of forest area, Indonesia has the third largest forest in the world. These forests are home to many diverse wildlife and unique creatures not found naturally anywhere else in the world. Before the 1950's, these forests were dense and in a natural balance. With the introduction of greed in the form of humans and reckless machinery over 60 or so years, Indonesia has won the dubious honour in becoming the "World leader of deforestation". This has led to an unnatural balance and is causing humans to try to control the environment more than they should. They practice the act of Swidden farming just like the indigenous people of those regions have. It is the action of cutting down trees and burning any unnecessary ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These pollutants may remain in the forest area. They can move into the cities and add to the factory released pollutants. Or, they can go over into innocent neighbouring countries and disrupt their lifestyles and their health. In 2013, a pollution cloud from Indonesia covered and filled Singapore. The Pollutant Standards Index surged and obtained a reading of 371. This is the highest level of pollution Singapore has ever had and they did not contribute to the burning. This pollution causes difficulty with navigation and will give a person skin irritations, breathing difficulties, and respiration issues from the polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons found as a by product of Swidden farming. Another issue with pollution from Swidden farming is its exacerbation to global warming. The fires of Swidden forests release greenhouse gases. These gases build up in the atmosphere and keep in infrared radiation. This is the natural way the Earth maintains the temperature. A dense, greenhouse gas atmosphere is not a good idea. Yet, the Indonesian logging industry continues to slash and burn down forests for money. An example of a greenhouse gas rich atmosphere is the atmosphere on the planet Venus. Venus is known to have the highest surface temperature of any known planet. It is unlikely that Earth will become like this but, if the rest of the Earth were like Indonesia, the characteristics will eventually become identical. The increase in carbon emissions in ... • 13. Palm Island THE DUBAI PALMS: CONSTRUCTION AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONSEQUENCES ETHAN POLIE In the late twentieth century, the Middle Eastern nation of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) began to make plans to distance itself from the petroleum industry that dominates most of the Persia. Driven by the fact that internal experts believe the country's oil reserves will be depleted by the year 2012, the UAE is attempting to transition to a service industry, with a major focus on tourism, retail, and entertainment. In order to transform its economy, the UAE is first focusing of the already advanced city of Dubai, which is the first tax free, centrally–planned, freemarket capitalist society in the Middle East (1). The final step was to dredge over 8,500,000 m3 (302,000,000 ft3) of ocean sand onto the top of the base structure in order to create habitable islands. This sea sand increased the island's height to 4 m (13 ft) above low tide (6). In order to quickly, yet precisely acquire and distribute the sand, fleets of dredging vessels and massive transport/delivery ships were brought from a European manufacturer. Dredging In dredging millions of cubic meters of sea bed, the project used specialized cutter suction dredgers in order to apply the sand to the desired surface. A cutter suction dredger, according to the European Dredging Association (EuDA), is a large rig with a powerful underwater suction tube generally 10 – 100 cm in diameter extended angularly from the centroid of the vessel with a large crane extending from the rear of the ship to stabilize the tube (7). Due to the dense makeup of the Persian Gulf, the dredgers had a cutting head at the base of the tube. This head chews through the rock bed with over 5,000kW cutting power. It was equipped with a massive jet dredge system powered by a submerged pump attached to the tube to help pull the destroyed bedrock into the ship (8 & 9). The jet dredge systems create an extreme negative pressure in the pipe, which creates a basic Bernoulli venturie tube effect. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

"The Lord God said, 'It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.'"(NIV Genesis 2:15). Thus, He made Eve from the rib of Adam. God told Adam and Eve not to eat from the tree of knowledge but the evil serpent, who was craftier than them, tricked Eve into eating the fruit. Eve later convinced Adam after having argued with him and he gave in. Both were punished by God for having gone against His word and would suffer the consequences of it. "So the Lord God banished him from the Garden of Eden to work the ground from which he had been taken. After He drove the man out, he placed on the east side of the Garden of Eden a cherubim and a flaming sword flashing back and forth to guard the way to the tree of life" (Genesis 3:23–24). This story shows that the evil around us can sometimes deceive us into wrongdoing if we do not trust our moral instincts or trust those in higher positions than us. William Golding, the author of Lord of the Flies, used his work to show the public that fear can lead people to destruction and evil ways if we do not attempt to control the beast within us. The way that Golding showed his audience this, was by carefully and thoughtfully placing symbolism throughout the novel and in each and every character. • 29. A Study On Vegetable Oils Many people don't know which oil is healthy for you, and what it's really used for. In the past, oils were not used the way they are today. There are literally hundreds of edible oils–it's no wonder there's confusion. In this section, we'll have a look at the top oils. The media would have you believe that vegetable oils are very healthy for you, but the research that has been conducted is stating otherwise. Vegetable oils are actually known as seed oils, and these kinds of oils turns into dangerous trans fats. This kind of fat has been proven to cause brain atrophy, as well as heart disease, cancer, obesity, and diabetes. Trans fats are also commonly found in foods that have been processed. If the food is labeled "hydrogenated" or "partially hydrogenated," that means trans fat. Many countries around the world have banned vegetable oils due to the link between its use and health risks. The risk of trans fats is so real that it was banned in New York back in 2006, with the full ban to be in effect by July 2008. The FDA has stated that they, too, have even thought about banning trans fats in the form of hydrogenated oils. Trans fats have been linked to chronic inflammation, if you have allergies or arthritis, dermatitis, or colitis, you might be consuming too many trans fats. Chronic inflammation is one of the leading causes of the seven out of ten causes of death: heart disease, cancer, chronic lower respiratory disease, stroke, Alzheimer's, diabetes, and nephritis. Traditionally, the berry juice was used for nutrition, medicinal healing and as a natural dye. The juice can be mixed with ice cream, chocolates, and liquor. In 2008, acai berries found fame when Dr. Oz mentioned their potential effects and benefits on Oprah Winfrey's show. Diet pill companies were quick to claim endorsements by the celebrity surgeon, Rachel Ray and Oprah herself. It was not long before unscrupulous manufacturers began tying celebrity names to their products without consent. Diet pill companies created blogs and entire marketing campaigns based on false claims that acai berries had the ability to boost weight loss. These claims were proven to be unfounded. The companies were later found to be involved in credit card fraud scams aimed at unsuspecting consumers who signed up for their free trials. Oprah, Rachel Ray and Dr. Oz attempted to distance themselves from the controversy. Acai–fueled weight loss claims have not been proven by science, and the celebrities who were inadvertently dragged into the scam had made no such statements at all. The FTC eventually stepped in and took action against the scammers, and the Better Business Bureau warned consumers against acai diet advertisements. This is the way many corporate brands like Starbucks have been handled to be an experience, not just a product. It is no longer sufficient to simply tell customers about the product features or benefits. The brand must create a visceral connection with customers – they have to participate in the journey emotionally. Product development must be geared with the customer in mind and the customer must be engaged more often in research. Once liberated from his embrace, I wait until he averts his gaze before using my palm to dry my cheek. He opens the door for me, allowing me to slide into the tiny confinements of his car. • 55. Hopefully, it doesn 't rain while we excavate this site, making it nearly impossible to accomplish what we came here for. Now to describe the site; landscape has a mixture of big boulders with smaller rocks throughout the site. There are two big trees, one on the north side of the property and the other one located on the south side of the property. The site has a six–foot high brick and mason fence surrounding the property. Possibly using the fence line to keep it privatize, or to keep wild animals from entering the property. The fence has collapsed and deteriorated in some areas surrounding the property. A variety of plants and shrubs have also caught my eye as another observation. At one point plants were planted along the fence, possibly to help with shade or privacy. The type of plants that I observe are possibly the kinds that creep along fences with bushes strategically placed along the property. What I gather is a sitting area with a small fire pit in the center. There 's a good chance it was used for cooking and or possibly to maintain warm at night. To the right of the fire pit, it appears to have been some sort of covering that existed. The Covering was possibly used to block the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

 • 57. Brazilian Government Intervention: Acai Berry Essay examples The Brazilian acai berry has been a food staple for low income families for years and a cultural symbol for generations. This berry is vital in Brazil, where it is farmed and, until recently had a relatively small market. However, after an Oprah interview the demand for acai has become an international affair. The rising demand has created a free market; however the once inexpensive food staple has become too expensive for the low income families. This report will analyse the current markets advantages and disadvantages, followed by two possible government intervention models. The examined interventions will be export tariff and price ceiling. The acai berry is a unique fruit that mostly grows in the Amazon; this limited product is wanted ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is shown as the price greatly increases and the quantity decreases slightly. It is also important to note that the Acai palm has strict conditions of where is can grow, and although the palm is ecologically sustainable the supply will not continually increase with the demand (Brondizio, 2011). This will cause further problems as the demand continues to grow, the low income families who need the berry as a staple food will be unable to afford acai. Free markets are considered inequitable because of the lack of equality; if the government were to intervene they would promote equity. The Brazilian government could stabilise the economy and lower inflation and promote economic growth (Coglan, 2013, pg312). The export tariff is something that the Brazilian government should consider as a possible solution. By imposing an export tax fewer companies will export acai; preferring the tax free domestic market. This will shift the supply curve to the right, causing the domestic cost of the berry to decrease as seen in figure 4. In the international market, the reduced supply will cause the price to increase, benefiting the local producers. The proceeds of the tariff would go to the Brazilian government, as shown by the purple rectangle from figure 3. This could possibly be used to support the producers or the low income families. If the government did intervene then they could control price fluctuations; if the production levels were small, the Brazilian ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

 • 59. New World Narrative A Completely New World Sometimes the most impactful events can emerge from the most common occasions. For instance, on another insignificant summer day, in the Southwest corner of Minnesota, I was passing my free time playing videogames, hanging out with friends, and working at HyVee. In other words, I was going through my regular routine. My family and I had been planning a trip to San Diego, California. Soon, I would leave my summer for the big city. Here there would be beaches, palm trees, and numerous people. This event would make my summer more memorable, I thought to myself. In the fall of 2015, my parents had bid on a package deal at the SMSU Gala and won. Included in the deal were tickets and a tour of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Actually, they were not comparable because of the pure size of the beach and body of water. In addition, we learned that swimming in the ocean was more fun than swimming in a Minnesota lake. The waves were fun to dodge or body surf on, because of their enormous size. Also, there were tons of people at every beach we visited. It was a good thing that there was so much shoreline because even with the huge amount of shoreline, it was still crowded. Another thing I got to see firsthand was the surfers. One side of the beach was marked off for swimming and the other for surfers. • 61. La Semana Santa Is the Spanish Name for Holy Week La Semana Santa is the Spanish name for Holy Week. Holy Week is the week previously to Easter, according to the Catholic calendar. It represents the last week of Jesus's life as he entered the city of Jerusalem. The week starts out with Palm Sunday. Palm Sunday was the day that Jesus first entered Jerusalem, and as he was entering people worshipping him were laying down their clothing items for the donkey Jesus was riding to walk on, and they were fanning him with palms. The Last Supper is also celebrated during Holy Week. The Last Supper took place on the night before Jesus was crucified on the cross. The Supper was held by Jesus so that he could gather his twelve disciples and enjoy a meal with them for the last time. Jesus' twelve disciples were chosen by God to spread the word of Christianity. To be Jesus' loyal followers and to worship him and God. After the Last Supper Jesus took his disciples into a forest to pray to God all night, in hopes that He would help them the next day, as Jesus was to be crucified. On Good Friday, Jesus was crucified. The reason he was hung upon the cross, is that he was accused of committing crimes by the Romans. The Romans disapproved of the sensation Jesus was creating, and the Romans were afraid he could overthrow their government. Jesus was betrayed, as he was crucified the next day, Good Friday. As Jesus was God's only son, God had to allow Jesus to die on the cross that day. Seemingly betraying Jesus, God allowed for him to die on the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

 • 63. A Research Study On Primate Conservation Primate conservation has long been a topic of debate, reliant most heavily on the struggle to provide the necessary resources to combat the declining rate of population growth among various species. Orangutans in particular, both Sumatran and Bornean, have experienced a rapid drop in their free– living populations. With an estimate of only 27,000 left in the wild, questions have been raised over what selective pressures are impacting the steady decline of these animals existence. While hunting and poaching have been identified as contributing factors, habitat loss primarily takes center stage in their demise. Conservation efforts have been made and continue to be somewhat successful, however, challenges and set backs continue to threaten ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They also consume a wide variety of other food sources including leaves, seeds, pith, fungi, honey, termites, and even small mammals. Orangutans are known to spend nearly 95% of their daily activity budget feeding, resting, and traveling. In fact their day ranges can vary between .056 and 1.9 miles. Likewise, the proportion of their day ranges is directly related to their home ranges. Because orangutans are so well adapted for the ecological niche they occupy, it is understandable why their populations suffer when their habitat is destroyed. In fact, in the last 20 years orangutans have lost nearly 80% of their natural habitat largely due to deforestation. Between the years of 1999 and 2006 roughly 55% of that deforestation was due to the expansion of the palm oil industry. Furthermore, Indonesia and Malaysia combined account for nearly 87% of the global output of palm oil with Indonesia generating about 18.7 and Malaysia 17.4 million tons a year. When considering these statistics, it raises questions about why this industry is seemingly more relevant than conserving natural resources and more importantly protecting an invaluable species of ape from extinction. To answer this question, it might be helpful to consider how the vast majority views the palm oil industry by comparison to the orangutans in terms of economics. Palm oil is a lucrative business that generates billions of dollars a year. It is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

 • 67. Palm Oil Industry and Its Effects on the Indigenous... Rainforests are the most diverse biomes on the earth. The rainforest house many different species and support the lives of the indigenous tribes who depend on the forests for habitat, food, and way of life. The palm oil companies are spreading to many parts of the world, taking out regions of the forest in order to make room for their palm oil plantations. Palm oil is found in 50% of products we use every day from items like shampoo and conditioner to the food we eat (Rainforest Rescue 2013). If the rain forests are fragmented too much, not only will it cause the species to possibly go extinct but it will cause issues with tribes like the Waorani, who are nomadic and depend on the forest for food, shelter, and clothes. If we treat the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In class, we discussed this with the Mbuti as their health decreased as they were brought into city which has diseases the Mbuti didn't have the immunity for and were further away from the plants they used for medicine. The forest provides the tribes of Ecuador, like the Waorani, with a natural resource. The trees naturally filter out all the dirt and sand and particles that are unwanted in your water. If the forest is depleted much more effort will have to be put into making the water clean, which is easy in a wealthy society but not for the tribes. They don't have a water treatment system. Also, the treatment of palm oil plants can affect the fish living in the streams. According to John Ashley, the managers of these plantations apply very toxic pesticides to these plants which gets into the water kills the fish and contaminates the drinking water for the locals. This water contamination has caused the locals to get sick as they drink and use the water for cooking. "The most dangerous pesticides being applied are Endrin, Aldrin, Dieldrin, and Parathion. ... Eating game contaminated by Endrin has been known to cause brain damage and birth defects in human beings" (Ashley 1987). So even after these Palm Oil Plantations leave Ecuador, it will have long term, devastating health effects on the individuals that are still in Ecuador. So not only do these plantations take away ... • 69. Policy Recommendations For Indonesia's Environmental Policies VI. Policy Recommendations While there is no blanket policy the Indonesian government can pass to magically stop deforestation, there are a number of steps they can take to slow and hopefully eventually stop it. All of these steps should address primarily the root cause of the problem, but also the proximate causes. First and foremost, the government officials responsible for Indonesia's environmental policies should take the time to become more educated on the impact of environmental problems in their region. They should visit the affected areas, speak with the indigenous people, and find a way to understand that deforestation is not just a means for generating a profit, but rather a means for depriving local people, as well as wildlife, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Republic of Indonesia has approximately 8 Mha of grasslands that can produce palm oil with little to no biodiversity loss. As mentioned above, oil palm companies harvest in the forest instead of on the grasslands because they sell the timber they clear cut to hold them over until the oil palm trees begin to grow. This, however, can be fixed if the government provided subsidies for companies to develop on the grasslands instead of in the forest. These subsidies could hold the oil palm producers over until it was time for them to harvest the oil palm trees. Providing this incentive tackles both misallocation and the government's mismanagement of the forest. Instead of allowing companies to produce palm oil in the forests, they would be encouraging them to switch to grasslands by altering the price. The government should not stop there. They should also make it a lot more difficult, if not impossible, for companies to log and produce palm oil in the areas that they specifically labeled as conservation and protection forest, as well as require sustainable development of the production and conversion forests. To do this, the government would need a lot more manpower for enforcement, something they currently do not have. While, it would be nice if they could somehow generate the money to hire dozens more people, there are potentially other options. The government could allow for indigenous people to have a larger role in the saving of their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
