Disciple Ananias
Healing by Ananias
For three consecutive days, Saul meditated himself in a house without food or water and even didn't
talk to anyone. Three days later, Disciple Ananias who was living in Damascus, was then ordered by
Lord to heal the Saul from blindness and to fill him with the Holy Ghost. Ananias the apostle of
Christ, after having a blissful vision of Christ who ordered him to help Saul in reviving back the
light of his eyes, came and supervised over the restoration of Saul's vision and his baptism (Dyck,
1980). Disciple Ananias had the vision of Jesus Christ who instructed him to go to Paul and heal
him. The Apostle Ananias was thunderstruck and afraid at first as all Christians thought of Saul as
their worst enemy but due to the orders from Christ he went to heal his blindness. As it is mentioned
in Book, Acts 9:11–12– "Get up and go to the street called Straight, and at the house of Judas look
for a man of Tarsus named Saul. At this moment, he is praying and he has seen in a vision a man
named Ananias come in and lay his hands on him so that he might ... Show more content on

The first and the foremost (9:1–19) is narrated by the instigator of the Book of Acts himself and the
other two that are described in verses 22:4–16 and 26:9–19, point out the dominant part of Paul's
strong opinions before Jews in Jerusalem and King Agrippa separately. They, to some extent create
an equivalent historical account. The interpretations of revelations described in all three following
Acts have the same judgmental narration in emphasizing the hand–picked selection of Saul by Lord
himself as a devotee to the Church, its mission, and the discipleship to carry out the words of God to
the far off regions of the Asia world. His appointment proved to be a momentous instrument; indeed
a very useful one to spread the Words of Jesus to the entire

Reflection About Discipleship Relationship
Throughout the past few months, the Lord blessed me with the opportunity to begin discipleship
relationships with two amazing people. To begin with, I had the opportunity to disciple a young girl
who I have known her whole life. Our connection had been previously established, but after these
past few months we've spent together our relationship has strengthened and gained a depth that I
never thought possible. From the beginning, we created a trustworthy environment that allowed for
vulnerability and a deep connection. She felt safe to share with me personal details that she used to
be hesitant to share and our friendship grew.
Beyond discipling someone, I also had the blessing and joy of getting to know my aunt better and
have her disciple me. Much like my relationship with the young girl I was discipling, I have known
her my whole life thus we already had a decent connection, but I wasn't prepared for development I
would experience throughout this relationship. Being as we're family, we easily connected from the
beginning. It was certainly a "click–relationship". From the first meeting we had, we were able to be
open and honest with each other, and I was able to share with her secrets and feelings that I never
thought I would. We connected so well with each other and, for that, I am so grateful.
Moving back to the young girl I was discipling, I'm extremely thankful for the spiritual connection
that we had. We had grown up in the same church and had a similar family and

Discipleship : Discipleship And Discipleship
Jesus gave us the Great Commission, and it was not a command He left open for discussion.
Before we can obey the Great Commission and make disciples, we must first be disciples. A better
way to think on global missions is that Missions = Discipleship. Discipleship is about engaging (the
Word), following and obeying (Jesus) and going (making disciples). We believe that missions is
more about discipleship than evangelism, although both are critically important. Discipleship is
about obedience and intentionally walking with Jesus through the everyday stuff of life.
Matthew's gospel is all about discipleship. He is looking for disciples to live as disciples. So often,
Christians just claim the title but fail to live the life that Jesus has called them, or sadly, they have
never been taught by the church what it means to truly follow Him. Jesus' call to His disciples isn't
to help people just pray some sinner's prayer so they can be saved. We don't find that in the Bible
anywhere. His call is for each disciple to die to himself daily. "Then Jesus said to his disciples,
'Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. For
whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it'"
(Matthew 16:24–25, NIV).
We are to deny ourselves, die to ourselves daily, and make the sacrifice.
We are to pick up our cross.
We are to follow Jesus and obey his commands
Discipleship is a process.

The Disciple Thomas
The disciple Thomas is a familiar Biblical character because of a specific incident involving his
disbelief. (John 20). Jesus had just risen from the dead and the rest of the disciples were elated after
seeing him. Thomas had not yet seen Jesus after His resurrection and he was adamant that what his
friends had witnessed couldn't be true. Nevertheless, he did have a certain curiosity and willingly
stayed with his friends in hopes of seeing what they saw. He just could not bring himself to believe
that Jesus had truly risen from the dead. He would not believe without beholding the Christ before
his own eyes and touching his wounds with his own hands. Thomas let his fear, anxiety, and what
seemed like logic take hold of him, and he had a hard time letting it all go. He needed proof to
justify what God had told him long ahead of time would happen. Thomas learned a great lesson the
day that Jesus appeared in the upper room before all of his disciples. He was told by his Master that
he would have been more blessed if he had only believed what he could not see. As soon as Thomas
felt Jesus' wounds and saw him, he declared, "My Lord and my God (John 20.28)." He was still
greatly blessed, but not in the wonderful way that God wanted him to be. What an important lesson
for the Christian to learn;when God says something, he means it and he doesn't intend to break his
promise. Despite his doubt, Thomas was chosen by Jesus for a reason and Jesus told him this
himself in John 15.16. He

Compare And Contrast Mary Magdalene And St. Peter Of Verona
Mary Magdalene and St. Peter of Verona (or St. Peter Martyr) are two wooden, Italian works of art
on display in the Greendale Special Collections and Archives in the Olin Library. The depiction of
Mary Magdalene predates St. Peter of Verona by about a century, made in the early 16th century,
with St. Peter of Verona coming into fruition in the 17th century. The two works are similar in
subject, that of the Catholic saint. Despite their similar functions and purposes, they are products of
their own time, revealed by the distinction of style between the two. The older figure, Mary
Magdalene, is in the form of a wooden relief. The relief is a low–relief, with almost a two–
dimensional feel. The size of the relief is not very big, indicating that this work may be one of others
in a series. Considering all of this, the work most likely functioned as an altarpiece or as a door
panel for a chapel. Although not too many traces of paint are left, the figure is in relatively good
condition. In this work, Mary Magdalene is depicted kneeling in prayer in the bottom–center of the
work. She is looking up to the left corner, in which a cross stands. Mary is shown to be outside,
indicated by the hill the cross sits on top. To the right of Mary is an arch framing over her head. To
the bottom left of her is a container which most likely held either wine or spices. The relief as a
whole utilizes much of the wood, with there being hardly any negative space. Although the work's

Christ in Discipleship
LIBERTY UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF DIVINITY Writing Assignment 1 – Christ in Discipleship
Submitted to Dr. Gary Waller in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the completion of DSMN
500 – B03 Discipleship Ministries by David J. Miller May 29, 2016 Centrality of Christ in Christian
discipleship Christian discipleship is to follow Jesus, to be his disciple, doesn't mean community
involvement and the veneer of tolerance. It means, mainly, first and central, to worship him – with
joy at the heart. Making disciples of Jesus means gathering his worshipers. Discipleship starts with
the heart, it is to have Christ at the center, to have His love, His Holy Spirit fill you, and guide you.

They are to put childish things behind, they are to "die to self" and devote their lives to whole life
worship/obedience. No better place in the Bible describes this than in Romans 12:1–8, "Therefore, I
urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy
and pleasing to God–this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this
world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve
what God's will is–his good, pleasing and perfect will. For by the grace given me I say to every one
of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober
judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you. For just as each of us has
one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ
we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. We have different
gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in
accordance with your[a] faith; if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; if it is to

Personal Theology of Discipleship Essay
Personal Theology of Discipleship Just what is theology? This question can have a wide variety of
answers, from irrelevant facts about God thought up by men centuries ago, to complicated theories
discussed by scholars. Typically, the average 21st century man does not consider theology as
relevant. Unfortunately, nothing could be further from the truth. Theology by definition has the
characteristics of both expounding the truth, and impacting the believer with that truth (Himes,
2011). Therefore, theology and the church are intricately combined, in that the church embodies the
revelation of God, and is reality, not theory (Himes, 2011). A personal practical theology must begin
with revelation, not the individual (Himes, 2011), and proclaim ... Show more content on

Through the interactions in the Huddle, the disciple learns through the reminder of the shapes that
he is a follower of Christ rather than merely performing actions defined by Christ (Breen, and
Cockram, 2011). The LifeShapes model was given a very positive view by Chafee (2010) where he
affirms that Jesus showed His followers how to multiply disciples by calling them to follow Him.
Central to this model are the shapes, which serve as a contemporary reminder for the believer of
living for the King (Chafee, 2010). As a system, the simplicity and practicality of this biblically
based model makes it quite effective.
The Celebration of Disciplines Model Richard Foster's Celebration of Discipline, was first published
in 1978. It presented sets of Disciplines that, if followed, would serve as vehicles for a deeper
relationship with Christ as well as preparation for service. These disciplines are divided into three
broad categories: the Inward Disciplines, the Outward Disciplines, and the Corporate Disciplines
(Foster, 2003). Each category contains four Disciplines, which indicated by their titles, moves the
disciple from the very personal to the larger congregational community (Foster, 2003). Recognizing
humanity's trend to make any process a law or regulation to follow, Foster warned against this by
reminding the disciple that to do so would turn

The Meaning of Discipleship Essay
The Meaning of Discipleship Discipleship revolves around following Jesus both physically and
spiritually. Both the first disciples and Christians today are followers of Jesus. A disciple of Jesus
would be expected to respond immediately to Jesus, love his neighbour, be willing to forgive sins,
show generosity, accept persecution and live their lives using gospel values in everything they do
and say. The first disciples of Jesus were expected to give up everything to be real followers of Jesus
as this was illustrated in Mark's Gospel when Jesus called his first disciples. As Jesus walked along
the shore of Lake Galilee he saw two fishermen, Simon and his brother Andrew, catching fish ...

Levi demonstrates true discipleship by also responding to Jesus' request by immediately following
him even if he is to leave everything behind. Jesus was fully aware that his disciples were to find it
difficult to give up everything without the thought of a reward and when Peter emphasised the point
by telling Jesus, "Look, we have left everything and followed you." Jesus replied, "Yes"…"and I tell
you that anyone who leaves home or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for
me and for the gospel, will receive much more in this present age. He will receive a hundred times
more houses, brothers, sisters, mothers, children and fields – and persecutions as well; and in the age
to come he will receive eternal life. But many now who are first will be last, and many who now are
last will be first." (Mark's Gospel – 10:29–31) This shows that Jesus' disciples will be rewarded
eternal life for the good they create in the world. Jesus displayed more of what is meant to be a true
disciple when he chose his twelve disciples. "I have chosen you to be with me," he told them. "I will
also send you out to preach, and you will have authority to drive out demons." (Mark's Gospel –
3:14–15) The first disciples needed to have absolute faith in Jesus

Analysis Of The Novel ' Three Plays For Puritans '
For Mrs. Dudgeon as a flat character, Show used her to reveal anger in a different way. This anger is
not out of hate, but it is out of mothers deep feeling of suffering because of her dear son. Saltzman
said that Show in his book "Three Plays for Puritans," was giving an example of puritans by the
character of the disagreeable Mrs. Dudgeon, a woman who bears with "intensely recalcitrant
resignation". Shaw made a lot of contrasts between the puritanical Mrs. Dudgeon and her
son(Saltzman. Page1).Here Saltzman shows that the two characters of both the mother and the son
are extremely different, which made Mrs. Dudgeon always angry and refused to forgive her son.
Shaw writes of the severe Puritanism of Mrs. Dudgeon and how her dubious piety (a mask for
hatred and hypocrisy) naturally leads her son, Dick (Richard) Dudgeon, to dissent, which in turn
reveals his true adherence to Christian values. But this tale of familial rebellion in eighteenth–
century America has a distinctly modern tenor(Sagittarius. Page1). Mrs. Dudgeon 's double faces
made her son away of her, that she refused to fight against the English colonizers out of fear that
they could be hanged just like Richard 's uncle. This made Richard angry and left this hypocrisy and
go away of his family. MRS. DUDGEON (bursting into dry angry tears). Well, I do think this is hard
on me–very hard on me. His brother, that was a disgrace to us all his life, gets hanged on the public

The Disciple Of Jesus By Simon Peter
Simon Peter is undoubtedly the best–known disciple of Jesus. But how well known is he, really?
Everyone knows his name, Simon, and his nickname, allegedly given by Jesus himself,
Cephas, which in the first century was not a name at all but a noun meaning "rock." This at least was
his nickname in Aramaic – the language that both Jesus and Simon spoke. In Greek, the language of
the New Testament, the word for rock is petra, where we get his more commonly known name,
Peter. The name Simon Peter, then, literally means "Simon the Rock." Given
Simon's impetuous and unfailingly fickle character during Jesus' lifetime, one almost wonders if
Jesus was being ironic.
But back to the previous question: how well do we know Peter from our surviving sources? It is
much to be regretted that there isn't anything like a full biography of him written by any of his peers,
even though a number of ancient accounts narrate what he allegedly said and did, both during Jesus'
lifetime and afterward. In his book, The New Testament: A Historical
Introduction to the Early Christian Writings, Bart D. Ehrman stated, " One of the difficulties
confronting historians is knowing which of these accounts, if any of them, can be trusted as
historically accurate and which were colored by the legendary impulses prevalent among
Christian storytellers of the first several centuries." Ehrman believes "the problem involves not only
the legends found outside the canonical writings of the New Testament

Experience, Formal Training And Internship
I will demonstrate that the knowledge I have obtained through life experience, formal training and
internship has equipped me to meet the course objectives listed for MBTS class U–CE405: Making
Disciples CCC. In my early twenties, after a yearlong process of reading my Bible, I became a born
again Christian. What followed was a tremendous journey filled with unbelief, discouragement and
culminating finally with true faith. A year later the Lord called me into full time ministry, so in the
fall of I995 I enrolled at Baptist Bible College in Springfield, MO. During my time at BBC, I not
only learned of the deficiencies of most people's view of discipleship, but I began a long journey in
realizing my own. Over the course of 20 years many great men have met me "at the fork in the road"
moments in the quest for biblical discipleship. Men such as Dr. Arthur Escobar taught me to love
Jesus and the Bible, Dr. Steve Schrader taught me that even great Hebrew scholars will put
everything aside to mentor young men and Brother Doug Shivers taught me that sound theology
matters. Perhaps most importantly it was what Jesus said that made the most impact, "Go and make
disciples of all the nations and teach them to observe all that I have commanded." Observe/obey
what Jesus commanded––this is the operative word. Obey Jesus, put in the simplest of ways means
to "follow me". As outlined in the four course objectives I will show that my life experiences indeed

many things and was able to view the world differently from others when he grew up. He put his
faith in God when he was young. Timothy's grandmother was named Lois, his mother Eunice. They

Mary As A Disciple ( Mariology )
Mary as a Disciple (Mariology)
Mary was the mother to Jesus Christ, the Messiah, and has been a focus of theological discussion
since about the second century. Mary comes from a long line of women in the bible. Prototypes, if
you will. These women throughout the Old Testament were chosen by God. This gave way to Mary
becoming the "God bearer." A title that was given to her by the Council of Ephesus in 431 C.E. This
is obviously where all theological debate dealing with Mariology comes from. To Catholics, Mary is
a sign of hope in this fading world. To protestant Christians, Mary is also known as the mother of
God. However, many protestant theologians believe that Mary should be honored but within certain
limits. The Old Testament in the Holy Bible specifically says in Exodus 34:14, "Do not worship any
other god, for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God" . In the New Testament it says in
1 John 5:21, "Little children, keep yourselves from idols". Martin Luther (a German professor of
Theology, and founder of the Lutheran Church) was quick to say that Mary should be honored but to
only what is fitting. Karl Barth (a reformed protestant theologian) explained that through Mary,
Jesus was human, and through Jesus, she is the divine mother of God, and is full of grace that was
still given to her by God the Father. Avery Dulles talks of models that churches should strive to
uphold, and Mary (mother of God) resembles the church of Servant, Community,

An Expert And A Disciple For An Extended Period
An expert is influential in many aspects of society like health and identity. Experts, for the purpose

The Between Christ And Disciples
Jesus was on travel, to the place called Caesarea Philippi. Before we talk about other important
things that we can find from the conversation between Christ and disciples, I like to talk about this
city.
Caesarea Philippi was the location the Cave of Pan, the place of the pagan Gate of Hades. It was in
this area that the first king of Israel (Jeroboam) led the northern kingdom of Israel into idolatry. This
was also the same place where the Greeks and Romans received revelations from the god Pan who
was mentioned in classical writings as a "seer" or fortune teller and a giver of revelations. This city
was originally under the control of Romans, however, by the Romans, control got transferred to
Herod the Great (Israelite king) in 20 B.C., who subsequently built a temple there to Caesar
Augustus. (Yes, this is the same Herod who professed to be Jewish and paid to rebuild the temple in
Jerusalem). Following Herod 's death in 4 B.C., his son Philip assumed control of this region. It was
he that later renamed the town to Caesarea Philippi, in honor of (Caesar) Tiberius and himself. In
other words, this whole place was a symbol of idolization.
In this place, Jesus asked two questions to disciples. Which were, "Who do people say that I am?"
and "Who do you say that I am?" To that question, disciples gives an different answers that they
have heard, which was "John the Baptistl Elijah, or prophets." For those of us who are sitting in this

The Unlikely Disciple Summary
Students at Brown University often consider taking a semester of to travel abroad or focus on a

semester undercover at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia which is an institution founded by
Jerry Falwell, an ultra–conservative preacher and founder of Thomas Road Baptist Church. Roose
wanted to see what conservative Christians were really like, how they truly lived. He took notes
during his time at Liberty and wrote the book The Unlikely Disciple from his own perspective about
his time there. Kevin had a very liberal, secular upbringing. He got the idea to go undercover after
he met a group of Liberty students when he was a freshman at Brown. Kevin had never really been
in contact with conservative Christian culture before and he felt that he did not know how to
communicate with them. Kevin decided to go all in. Kevin wanted to see the real picture of how life
was like at Liberty. He told everyone he was an Evangelical Christian so that he could blend in at

A book of hours was a Christian pray book, most popular in the 15th century. Books of hours were
the most common form of illuminated manuscripts seen coming out of the medieval period. "They
were not for monks or university libraries but for ordinary people. They are small and usually
prettily decorated books. They were intended to be held in the hand and admired for their delicate
illumination rather than be put on a library shelf." Books of Hours were commonly found in
medieval households and used as a way to teach literary skills and religion. Each book of hours was

The Leaf from "The Tarleton Hours" verso: St. Philip and St. James facing each other was
constructed in Normandy, France in 1430. At this time France was deeply involved in the Hundred
Years war, and the English occupied Normandy. During the British occupation in the Hundreds
Years War, hundreds of Normans died. Books of Hours allowed a relief from fear, and their owners
to be closer to religion, through the psalms and art that was contained inside them and the devotional
imagery they evoked, which was an important aspect of life in the 15th century. The pattern in
similarities and differences among Books of Hours emerged because Books of Hours were so
common among households in the fifteenth century. The Leaf from "The Tarleton Hours" verso: St.

Pyramid Discipleship Essay
Pyramid Discipleship – Discipleship in a mega church
One of the hardest things to do when you are in a mega church is creating a community of genuine
discipleship and not just a "Sunday Church". It can seem like a giant task to take on when looked at
head first because creating personal relationships with a thousand or more people is a lot of
relationships, but there are ways to do it, and following the mold of pyramid discipleship can be
very effective.
So what is it?
Pyramid discipleship is a system set up in a way to where one person will only take on 5 to 10 (at
the very most) people at a time to disciple. And as they continue in their discipling there will be
others above them to disciple them as they go. When you actually look at this inside of the church it
becomes clearer and easier to understand. At the top of the pyramid would be the senior pastor, a
maybe some of the elders or other staff members. Moving down the pyramid would be the staff that
would oversee the discipleship program. Weather this be one or two people, this is where the
discipleship starts. These leaders will be discipled by the elders or senior pastor, this is including not
only questions about the program but also walking with them through their spiritual life, and life in

With what kind of hearts? Part of what we are giving to our leaders is the ongoing discipleship they
will have. This is the same thing our leaders are giving to their disciples. Along with that we will
hold different fellowship nights to give our leaders a night of rest and fun as they can come and eat
and talk to the other leaders. This will also be available for the leaders to hold for their own groups.
We want true, genuine, Christ–like hearts of love for this to be done at all. If it does not stem from
love, then it is nothing we want to promote. From the beginning we will push the idea of having a
loving heart and always leading from that same

It is not our goal to "trade" members neither with other churches nor to increase our membership by
reaching disgruntled members of other churches. Our vision is to reach young people who may not
have a "church" background, teach and train them, equip them, and qualify them to go out and win
souls. We believe that by doing this, we will build a strong army who can take our community, state,
and the world for Christ. We want to reach young people ages 10–18 in our community. According
to Warren, "If you want to build a healthy, strong, and growing church you must spend time laying a
solid foundation."
Values
Our values are Righteous living, as exemplified by a lifestyle congruent with biblical and moral
guidelines, spiritual enrichment, as exemplified through our School of Ministry, fortifying the
family, as exemplified by marriage, single, and youth ministries, economic support, as exemplified
by our contributions through tithe, offerings, and time, and alliance of believers, as exemplified
through prayer, worship, and servitude.
Within these values, there is the element of youth ministries. Several key verses are the basis of this
plan. Ecclesiastes 12:1 says that children that are

Disciple Of The Local Church
DISCIPLE MAKING IN THE LOCAL CHURCH
A Written Assignment 3
Cynthia Taylor
DSMN 500– B10
September, 2014
SUMMARY
According to Early & Dempsey, "a disciple is a person, while discipleship is a process. A disciple is
a passionate follower of Jesus Christ who is intimately involved in the mission of Christ. On the
other hand, discipleship is the process of moving the disciple towards spiritual maturity and the
mission of Christ. Being a disciple is God's perfect will for every individual life; however,
discipleship is God's will for every individual church" [1]
The Great Commission denotes that disciples must be made. Many worship opportunities have been
provided by the church such as fellowship, bible study and church events that will aid in developing
the mind–set of Christ, being obedient to the commands of Christ, engaging in his commission and
being transformed into His image. According to Jesus disciples need to be made and informed.
How disciple are made? According to Disciple Shift, pastor and author Jim Putman describes
diverse stages of spiritual growth with simplicity. In defining these five spiritual growth stages he
informs the reader of their beliefs and how the local church and a Christian community should
implement a plan to help individuals to maturity in reaching these stages: spiritually dead, spiritual
infants, spiritual children, spiritual young adults, and spiritual parents.
Spiritually dead the first stage comprising of sinners, unsaved

In their book The Great Commission to Worship: Biblical Principles for Worship–Based

fundamental imperative of the Christian disciple to be integral to and an outflow of the other. The

Loving and worshiping God began to be more and more part of my daily thinking, motives, actions,
and decisions.
Years later in this process of growth, I was blessed with a summer internship at a larger
congregation in Dallas, Texas. Although I grew from my relationships and from the mentorship I
received, I also observed that the bulk of the ministry meetings focused on changing and adapting
our church's corporate worship to be more and more "seeker sensitive." The thought was that
corporate worship was something malleable that could be altered into something more like the
culture of the surrounding neighborhood, so people would want to come. "After all," so the thinking
went, "scripture provided only a rough guideline as to what the church is to do when coming
together and there is little–to–no reason to keep intact what past generations did or passed down." In
essence, we sought to form our corporate worship for the purpose of evangelism. I believed that the
important thing to focus on is love of God, love of neighbor, and piety. Something in the line of
reasoning that insisted on changing the community worship ritual to reflect the world didn't feel
right to me, yet I could not articulate what it was. Several months later I visited an Eastern Orthodox
Church as part of a course on Christian spiritual development and after a didactic

Gangster Disciples Research Paper
The Gangster Disciples are still an active group in the United States (Mallory, 2012). There are

reside in the city of Chicago, where the FBI considers this group a "major organized crime group"

Becoming A Disciple Of Jesus
In this paper, the writer will reveal how becoming a disciple of Jesus arranged and rearranged life
about the 'Great Commission. ' The writer will also express one area that is more efficient to
rearrange as a disciple.
According to Willard, a disciple is "someone who has decided to be with another person, under
appropriate conditions, in order to become capable of doing what that person does or to become
what that person is."(282) A disciple of Jesus is learning to be like Jesus, giving up the will of self to
the will of Jesus. Just as Jesus surrendered His will to the will of the Father. To be like Jesus, a
person must do to Jesus in Luke 9:23, "he must deny himself, and take up his cross daily and follow
Me." In other words, a person must completely dedicate themselves to Jesus and be obedient and
trust God 's plan for their life. God says in Jeremiah 29:11, "For I know the plans I have for you,
declares the Lord, plans for welfare, and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope." God is
our ultimate source. He knows what it takes to form a person 's character as being Christlike and
developing them as a disciple, just as He did the Twelve.
For instance, to arrange and rearrange the writer life 's affairs, the writer had to resign from the job
of eight years and six months to follow after Christ and trust His plans for what lies ahead. In spite
of the struggles, tests, and trials, God was always in the midst of every situation the writer
encountered.

Guilds Of Saint Luke Guild
Introduction
Guilds of Saint Luke were one of the common guilds in the history of the art market in Early–
Modern Europe especially in the Low Countries, which played a significant role in the history of art.
To understand the social and economic effects on art we come across with guilds especially in the
art field, St. Luke guild, which was established in many Dutch cities to protect the right of painters
by making regulations.
By 1829 nothing was left from prior mid–18th century (1750), possibly as a result of destroying
documents 'in the Weighing House the chamber of the Guild of Saint Luke (the Waag', in
Amsterdam) 'where the guilds archives were being kept'. (Eeghen, 2012, pp1)

A vast number of paintings in Holland were painted in the 17th century. (Price, 2012). In 1609, after
the Twelve Years Truce, borders were opened to imported products from the south including
paintings which sometimes were poor quality and high volume. Therefore 'new guilds of St Luke or
similar organisations were established in Gouda and Rotterdam in 1609 and in Delft and Utrecht in
1611. These four guilds aimed first and foremost to protect indigenous painters against imports from
the South.' (Stephen, 2008, pp152–153). 'Craft guilds helped improving production and productivity

The neighborhood of which the church is located is classic Central Florida with what appears to be

the integration of all these people is desired for the church's population. We already have ages in this

Wakefield's report received media push, a great mistake.
2. Truth push out via media. It is an ethical responsibility of the media to pour out the truth amass to

The Public
1. Leaders ought to speak out. The educated people in the public, community and religious leaders,
musicians, school heads, market coordinators etc. Should have spoken out with a load voice,
rejecting the report. "It is not the wickedness of evil men that destroys a nation, but the silence of the

My opinion is that Wakefield and His 12 Disciples are walkers of evil, and must be allowed to walk

Disciples And Rituals: Wk5 Devotional

After Jesus gives a parable concerning the seriousness of neglecting to accept the invitation of the

Sister, or Brother is to be placed in the reserved position of preeminence for the Lord.
Salvation cost Jesus His life, and He was not guilty of any crime that He should die a horrific death,

The Christian Disciple, A Follower Of Jesus
The Christian disciple is a follower of Jesus who pursues morality through a life of faith and
obedience to Christ and His teachings. The faithful disciple places absolute trust in God while he
embarks on a quest for a fulfilling life rich in virtue and happiness. Discipleship specifically
emphasizes a simplistic lifestyle focused on rejecting consumerism and giving to those in need. In
practicing asceticism, however, a follower of Jesus is faced with the decision between two separate
Christian lifestyles: rigorous discipleship and responsible consumption. While both of these
adaptations center on devotion to the Church, they differ in their understanding of simplicity as
presented by the Bible. While rigorous discipleship stresses one's ... Show more content on

A disciple seeks to overcome the "fantasy of consumerism" in order to liberate himself from the
unhealthy constraint of material goods (CML 31). The absence of materialism allows him to "find
joy and satisfaction more in friendships rather than in possessions" (CML 31). It is the common
myth of consumerism that material goods fulfill our wants and thereby make us feel complete.
However, this ceaseless desire for wealth and possessions alienates us from personal relationships,
therefore diminishing us as human beings. Trapped in the cycle of consumerism, we are often
unable to identify the source of our happiness, which, as human beings, is through social and loving
relationships with others. Free from an overabundance of material goods, we are able to identify and
fulfill the "desires and devotions that truly bring us to life and complete us" (CML 31). It is this
practice of simplicity that allows one to connect with God and others.
Clearly, an important aspect of discipleship is the rejection of materialism, but rigorous discipleship
and its radical idea of "holy poverty" is an outdated and unnecessary path for most of today's
practicing Christians. Though an admirable path followed by respectable individuals such as Mother
Teresa and Dorothy Day, the extreme lifestyle of rigorous discipleship makes it unrealistic for the
majority of Christians. It calls for the follower to live a life free of possessions, to satisfy only the
most basic of needs, and to give

The Definition of Disciple Essay example
The Definition of Disciple
Discipleship is the core of Christian ethics, especially as the last command of Jesus (28:19). When I
heard the word "disciple" in childhood Sunday School, I envisioned an eager, bearded man with
dirty robes straining intently towards Jesus, like a child begging to hear more of a bedtime story. In
high school youth group, we talked about being good disciples by obeying the rules: no kissing, no
running, no talking in church. But as I re–read Dietrich Bonhoeffer's stirring, straightforward work,
The Cost of Discipleship as a Lenten devotional, my idea of what a disciple is and does is crumbling
like old paint.

Discipleship in Matthew: Building Community
The gospel of Matthew is thought to have been written between 60–85A.C.E for those within the
Jewish community who believe in Christ as the Messiah. Because the young sect still saw
themselves as part of Israel, the persecution they experienced from fellow Israelites called for
decisive action: either reconcile with the Jewish leaders or separate completely. In response,
Matthew writes a narrative account of Jesus focused on building a solid community still rooted in
Jewish heritage, but distinctly different in practice because of Christ (Koester).
Establishing a new community requires multiple individuals willing to dedicate themselves to a
common identity. Therefore, Matthew's gospel uses the word disciple or disciples 68 times, more
than any other synoptic gospel (Longenecker 4). The text is mostly the direct words of Christ,
revealing what it means to be a disciple through listening to and obeying Jesus' teaching.
In using narrative and didactic styles to convey Jesus' story, Matthew not only shares about the
disciples, but seeks to make disciples out of his readers (Donaldson 44). As an unintended result of
my paper, then, the reader may find a bit of personal challenge in my analysis. While I will refer to
the general theme of discipleship in all of Matthew, I will use the most direct passages–Jesus'
commissioning of the twelve in chapter 10 and his challenge to Peter in chapter 16–to illustrate

The Gospel Of The Apostles Of Jesus
From the time when Jesus ascended into heaven to the present day, Jesus sovereignly works through
His children to continue to spread the gospel. For a time, the apostles of Jesus did not have either
Jesus with them or His Spirit. During this time, though, the eleven apostles continued to seek God
even as they chose a new apostle to take the place of Judas Iscariot. The apostles of Jesus spent this
time waiting but not waiting and doing nothing. They prayed and worshiped God together. During
one of the times of worship and prayer, the Spirit of God descended upon each one of them.
Empowered by the Spirit, they went out preaching and telling people about Jesus in all different
languages as the Spirit gave them utterance. As they were preaching, Peter stood up and addressed
the gathering crowd and began to preach about Jesus and the crowd's need for Him. As Peter
preached, God pricked many in their hearts and they were convicted of their sins. After Peter's
sermon, many were baptized. During the time after this, the apostles continued to make new
disciples of Jesus through the power of the Spirit. The Spirit was working mightily through the
apostles. Just like before, the apostles and the disciples gathered together to worship and to pray to
God. During these gatherings, they partook of the Lord's Supper. They fellowshipped and gathered
many times. God continued to add to their fellowship daily as many as were called. As the message
of Jesus spread to many people, the growth

The Disciple Project: Youth Ministry
According to Duke Divinity School professor Craig Dykstra, "Christian practices are not activities
we do to make something spiritual happen in our lives. Nor are they duties we undertake to be
obedient to God. Rather, they are patterns of communal action that create openings in our lives
where the grace, mercy, and presence of God may be made known to us. They are places where the
power of God is experienced. In the end, these are not ultimately our practices but forms of
participation in the practices of God."1 Christian practices offer powerful opportunities for

Discipleship : The Overarching Purpose Of The Christian...
Introduction Making disciples is the overarching purpose of the church. However, many churches
struggle with understanding and fulfilling the true meaning of Christian discipleship in individuals'
lives. This writing assignment will attempt to expound on several significant aspects of discipleship.
The importance of the centrality of Jesus Christ to Christian discipleship will be detailed. Also,
obedience to the directives of Christ and submission of particular areas of one's life will be outlined.
Finally, the three stages of discipleship according to Dave Earley and Rod Dempsy will be
delineated and expanded upon.

It should be a natural response to follow Jesus' commands when people are converted to
Christianity. The truth is, though, even long–time pastors and church leaders would struggle to
answer that question with a resounding yes. The Great Commission is clearly spelled out in
Matthew 28:19 where it says, "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of
the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost." This is where most people stop as they teach and
preach, but the next verse is worthy to be considered anytime a person is interested in sharing
content regarding the Great Commission. Verse 20 goes on to say, " Teaching them to observe all
things whatsoever I have commanded you...." Therefore, there is no way that we can say that we are
satisfying the Great Commission unless we are instructing individuals to "observe all things
whatsoever I have commanded you." A person must obey the commands of Jesus before he or she
can truly be a disciple. Jesus spoke very clearly in John 14:15 when he said, "If ye love me, keep my
commandments." A true follower must adopt the lifestyle of his master. A protégé must learn and
follow the instructions of his teacher. Earley and Dempsey said, "Discipleship is not merely a matter
of information remembered. It is a lifestyle that is practiced." Even though teaching through various
classes are needed and are important, church classes cannot be a substitute for true discipleship.

The Disciples Of Christ Tradition
Having grown up United Methodist, it has been compelling to discover how much I have been
influenced by Wesleyan theology, without even realizing it. This embedded theology continues to be
refined through an ever–deepening understanding of scripture, experience, traditions and with the
use of reason. I am most drawn to those theologians who are rooted in this Wesleyan tradition. My
mother grew up Disciples of Christ, and her tradition influenced my theology through its broad
understanding of faith. This led me toward an openness about the various ways people experience
and understand the Divine. The Disciples of Christ tradition also influenced my understanding of
baptism, while John Wesley's Treatise on Baptism helped me affirm a Wesleyan ... Show more

While being both three and one, the Triune God is both accessible to us through relationship and
more expansive than we can fathom. Having experienced both God's nearness and distance in my
own life, I am comfortable with the mystery of God. My own relationship with the Divine is
sustained through prayer, worship, study, sacrament, vocation, relationships and acts of justice.
Throughout my life, especially during more challenging experiences, I felt God nearby, present, and
engaged in my life, especially through communion. At other times, God feels more distant, more
mysterious, and more unavailable. This ebb and flow in my relationship with God allows me to be
comfortable with God being three in one and both immanent and transcendent. I also experience
God in moments of tension, when caught between two seemingly distant paradigms. By
acknowledging the mystery of God, I am able to have a relationship with God, while God remains
infinite and beyond full human comprehension.
I believe that God created the world and continues to remain active and responsive to the world as it
is. God is, first and foremost, loving. As both Father and Mother, God seeks to be in relationship
with the world and calls the church toward a vision of creation that is beautiful, diverse, just, and
good. God remains with us, even when we turn away and sin. God's love is greater than we can ever
imagine.

Disciple Ananias

  • 1. Disciple Ananias Healing by Ananias For three consecutive days, Saul meditated himself in a house without food or water and even didn't talk to anyone. Three days later, Disciple Ananias who was living in Damascus, was then ordered by Lord to heal the Saul from blindness and to fill him with the Holy Ghost. Ananias the apostle of Christ, after having a blissful vision of Christ who ordered him to help Saul in reviving back the light of his eyes, came and supervised over the restoration of Saul's vision and his baptism (Dyck, 1980). Disciple Ananias had the vision of Jesus Christ who instructed him to go to Paul and heal him. The Apostle Ananias was thunderstruck and afraid at first as all Christians thought of Saul as their worst enemy but due to the orders from Christ he went to heal his blindness. As it is mentioned in Book, Acts 9:11–12– "Get up and go to the street called Straight, and at the house of Judas look for a man of Tarsus named Saul. At this moment, he is praying and he has seen in a vision a man named Ananias come in and lay his hands on him so that he might ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first and the foremost (9:1–19) is narrated by the instigator of the Book of Acts himself and the other two that are described in verses 22:4–16 and 26:9–19, point out the dominant part of Paul's strong opinions before Jews in Jerusalem and King Agrippa separately. They, to some extent create an equivalent historical account. The interpretations of revelations described in all three following Acts have the same judgmental narration in emphasizing the hand–picked selection of Saul by Lord himself as a devotee to the Church, its mission, and the discipleship to carry out the words of God to the far off regions of the Asia world. His appointment proved to be a momentous instrument; indeed a very useful one to spread the Words of Jesus to the entire ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Reflection About Discipleship Relationship Throughout the past few months, the Lord blessed me with the opportunity to begin discipleship relationships with two amazing people. To begin with, I had the opportunity to disciple a young girl who I have known her whole life. Our connection had been previously established, but after these past few months we've spent together our relationship has strengthened and gained a depth that I never thought possible. From the beginning, we created a trustworthy environment that allowed for vulnerability and a deep connection. She felt safe to share with me personal details that she used to be hesitant to share and our friendship grew. Beyond discipling someone, I also had the blessing and joy of getting to know my aunt better and have her disciple me. Much like my relationship with the young girl I was discipling, I have known her my whole life thus we already had a decent connection, but I wasn't prepared for development I would experience throughout this relationship. Being as we're family, we easily connected from the beginning. It was certainly a "click–relationship". From the first meeting we had, we were able to be open and honest with each other, and I was able to share with her secrets and feelings that I never thought I would. We connected so well with each other and, for that, I am so grateful. Moving back to the young girl I was discipling, I'm extremely thankful for the spiritual connection that we had. We had grown up in the same church and had a similar family and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Discipleship : Discipleship And Discipleship Jesus gave us the Great Commission, and it was not a command He left open for discussion. Before we can obey the Great Commission and make disciples, we must first be disciples. A better way to think on global missions is that Missions = Discipleship. Discipleship is about engaging (the Word), following and obeying (Jesus) and going (making disciples). We believe that missions is more about discipleship than evangelism, although both are critically important. Discipleship is about obedience and intentionally walking with Jesus through the everyday stuff of life. Matthew's gospel is all about discipleship. He is looking for disciples to live as disciples. So often, Christians just claim the title but fail to live the life that Jesus has called them, or sadly, they have never been taught by the church what it means to truly follow Him. Jesus' call to His disciples isn't to help people just pray some sinner's prayer so they can be saved. We don't find that in the Bible anywhere. His call is for each disciple to die to himself daily. "Then Jesus said to his disciples, 'Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it'" (Matthew 16:24–25, NIV). We are to deny ourselves, die to ourselves daily, and make the sacrifice. We are to pick up our cross. We are to follow Jesus and obey his commands Discipleship is a process. 1 John 5:3 ... • 7. The Disciple Thomas The disciple Thomas is a familiar Biblical character because of a specific incident involving his disbelief. (John 20). Jesus had just risen from the dead and the rest of the disciples were elated after seeing him. Thomas had not yet seen Jesus after His resurrection and he was adamant that what his friends had witnessed couldn't be true. Nevertheless, he did have a certain curiosity and willingly stayed with his friends in hopes of seeing what they saw. He just could not bring himself to believe that Jesus had truly risen from the dead. He would not believe without beholding the Christ before his own eyes and touching his wounds with his own hands. Thomas let his fear, anxiety, and what seemed like logic take hold of him, and he had a hard time letting it all go. He needed proof to justify what God had told him long ahead of time would happen. Thomas learned a great lesson the day that Jesus appeared in the upper room before all of his disciples. He was told by his Master that he would have been more blessed if he had only believed what he could not see. As soon as Thomas felt Jesus' wounds and saw him, he declared, "My Lord and my God (John 20.28)." He was still greatly blessed, but not in the wonderful way that God wanted him to be. What an important lesson for the Christian to learn;when God says something, he means it and he doesn't intend to break his promise. Despite his doubt, Thomas was chosen by Jesus for a reason and Jesus told him this himself in John 15.16. He ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Compare And Contrast Mary Magdalene And St. Peter Of Verona Mary Magdalene and St. Peter of Verona (or St. Peter Martyr) are two wooden, Italian works of art on display in the Greendale Special Collections and Archives in the Olin Library. The depiction of Mary Magdalene predates St. Peter of Verona by about a century, made in the early 16th century, with St. Peter of Verona coming into fruition in the 17th century. The two works are similar in subject, that of the Catholic saint. Despite their similar functions and purposes, they are products of their own time, revealed by the distinction of style between the two. The older figure, Mary Magdalene, is in the form of a wooden relief. The relief is a low–relief, with almost a two– dimensional feel. The size of the relief is not very big, indicating that this work may be one of others in a series. Considering all of this, the work most likely functioned as an altarpiece or as a door panel for a chapel. Although not too many traces of paint are left, the figure is in relatively good condition. In this work, Mary Magdalene is depicted kneeling in prayer in the bottom–center of the work. She is looking up to the left corner, in which a cross stands. Mary is shown to be outside, indicated by the hill the cross sits on top. To the right of Mary is an arch framing over her head. To the bottom left of her is a container which most likely held either wine or spices. The relief as a whole utilizes much of the wood, with there being hardly any negative space. Although the work's biggest figure ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Christ in Discipleship LIBERTY UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF DIVINITY Writing Assignment 1 – Christ in Discipleship Submitted to Dr. Gary Waller in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the completion of DSMN 500 – B03 Discipleship Ministries by David J. Miller May 29, 2016 Centrality of Christ in Christian discipleship Christian discipleship is to follow Jesus, to be his disciple, doesn't mean community involvement and the veneer of tolerance. It means, mainly, first and central, to worship him – with joy at the heart. Making disciples of Jesus means gathering his worshipers. Discipleship starts with the heart, it is to have Christ at the center, to have His love, His Holy Spirit fill you, and guide you. To have Christ as the centrality ... No better place in the Bible describes this than in Romans 12:1–8, "Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God–this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is–his good, pleasing and perfect will. For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you. For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. • 15. Personal Theology of Discipleship Essay Personal Theology of Discipleship Just what is theology? This question can have a wide variety of answers, from irrelevant facts about God thought up by men centuries ago, to complicated theories discussed by scholars. Typically, the average 21st century man does not consider theology as relevant. Unfortunately, nothing could be further from the truth. Theology by definition has the characteristics of both expounding the truth, and impacting the believer with that truth (Himes, 2011). Therefore, theology and the church are intricately combined, in that the church embodies the revelation of God, and is reality, not theory (Himes, 2011). A personal practical theology must begin with revelation, not the individual (Himes, 2011), and proclaim ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Through the interactions in the Huddle, the disciple learns through the reminder of the shapes that he is a follower of Christ rather than merely performing actions defined by Christ (Breen, and Cockram, 2011). The LifeShapes model was given a very positive view by Chafee (2010) where he affirms that Jesus showed His followers how to multiply disciples by calling them to follow Him. Central to this model are the shapes, which serve as a contemporary reminder for the believer of living for the King (Chafee, 2010). As a system, the simplicity and practicality of this biblically based model makes it quite effective. The Celebration of Disciplines Model Richard Foster's Celebration of Discipline, was first published in 1978. It presented sets of Disciplines that, if followed, would serve as vehicles for a deeper relationship with Christ as well as preparation for service. These disciplines are divided into three broad categories: the Inward Disciplines, the Outward Disciplines, and the Corporate Disciplines (Foster, 2003). Each category contains four Disciplines, which indicated by their titles, moves the disciple from the very personal to the larger congregational community (Foster, 2003). Recognizing humanity's trend to make any process a law or regulation to follow, Foster warned against this by reminding the disciple that to do so would turn ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. The Meaning of Discipleship Essay The Meaning of Discipleship Discipleship revolves around following Jesus both physically and spiritually. Both the first disciples and Christians today are followers of Jesus. A disciple of Jesus would be expected to respond immediately to Jesus, love his neighbour, be willing to forgive sins, show generosity, accept persecution and live their lives using gospel values in everything they do and say. The first disciples of Jesus were expected to give up everything to be real followers of Jesus as this was illustrated in Mark's Gospel when Jesus called his first disciples. As Jesus walked along the shore of Lake Galilee he saw two fishermen, Simon and his brother Andrew, catching fish ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Levi demonstrates true discipleship by also responding to Jesus' request by immediately following him even if he is to leave everything behind. Jesus was fully aware that his disciples were to find it difficult to give up everything without the thought of a reward and when Peter emphasised the point by telling Jesus, "Look, we have left everything and followed you." Jesus replied, "Yes"…"and I tell you that anyone who leaves home or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for me and for the gospel, will receive much more in this present age. He will receive a hundred times more houses, brothers, sisters, mothers, children and fields – and persecutions as well; and in the age to come he will receive eternal life. But many now who are first will be last, and many who now are last will be first." (Mark's Gospel – 10:29–31) This shows that Jesus' disciples will be rewarded eternal life for the good they create in the world. Jesus displayed more of what is meant to be a true disciple when he chose his twelve disciples. "I have chosen you to be with me," he told them. "I will also send you out to preach, and you will have authority to drive out demons." (Mark's Gospel – 3:14–15) The first disciples needed to have absolute faith in Jesus ... • 19. Analysis Of The Novel ' Three Plays For Puritans ' For Mrs. Dudgeon as a flat character, Show used her to reveal anger in a different way. This anger is not out of hate, but it is out of mothers deep feeling of suffering because of her dear son. Saltzman said that Show in his book "Three Plays for Puritans," was giving an example of puritans by the character of the disagreeable Mrs. Dudgeon, a woman who bears with "intensely recalcitrant resignation". Shaw made a lot of contrasts between the puritanical Mrs. Dudgeon and her son(Saltzman. Page1).Here Saltzman shows that the two characters of both the mother and the son are extremely different, which made Mrs. Dudgeon always angry and refused to forgive her son. Shaw writes of the severe Puritanism of Mrs. Dudgeon and how her dubious piety (a mask for hatred and hypocrisy) naturally leads her son, Dick (Richard) Dudgeon, to dissent, which in turn reveals his true adherence to Christian values. But this tale of familial rebellion in eighteenth– century America has a distinctly modern tenor(Sagittarius. Page1). Mrs. Dudgeon 's double faces made her son away of her, that she refused to fight against the English colonizers out of fear that they could be hanged just like Richard 's uncle. This made Richard angry and left this hypocrisy and go away of his family. MRS. DUDGEON (bursting into dry angry tears). Well, I do think this is hard on me–very hard on me. • 21. The Disciple Of Jesus By Simon Peter Simon Peter is undoubtedly the best–known disciple of Jesus. But how well known is he, really? Everyone knows his name, Simon, and his nickname, allegedly given by Jesus himself, Cephas, which in the first century was not a name at all but a noun meaning "rock." This at least was his nickname in Aramaic – the language that both Jesus and Simon spoke. In Greek, the language of the New Testament, the word for rock is petra, where we get his more commonly known name, Peter. The name Simon Peter, then, literally means "Simon the Rock." Given Simon's impetuous and unfailingly fickle character during Jesus' lifetime, one almost wonders if Jesus was being ironic. But back to the previous question: how well do we know Peter from our surviving sources? It is much to be regretted that there isn't anything like a full biography of him written by any of his peers, even though a number of ancient accounts narrate what he allegedly said and did, both during Jesus' lifetime and afterward. In his book, The New Testament: A Historical Introduction to the Early Christian Writings, Bart D. Ehrman stated, " One of the difficulties confronting historians is knowing which of these accounts, if any of them, can be trusted as historically accurate and which were colored by the legendary impulses prevalent among Christian storytellers of the first several centuries." Ehrman believes "the problem involves not only the legends found outside the canonical writings of the New Testament ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Experience, Formal Training And Internship I will demonstrate that the knowledge I have obtained through life experience, formal training and internship has equipped me to meet the course objectives listed for MBTS class U–CE405: Making Disciples CCC. In my early twenties, after a yearlong process of reading my Bible, I became a born again Christian. What followed was a tremendous journey filled with unbelief, discouragement and culminating finally with true faith. A year later the Lord called me into full time ministry, so in the fall of I995 I enrolled at Baptist Bible College in Springfield, MO. During my time at BBC, I not only learned of the deficiencies of most people's view of discipleship, but I began a long journey in realizing my own. Over the course of 20 years many great men have met me "at the fork in the road" moments in the quest for biblical discipleship. Men such as Dr. Arthur Escobar taught me to love Jesus and the Bible, Dr. Steve Schrader taught me that even great Hebrew scholars will put everything aside to mentor young men and Brother Doug Shivers taught me that sound theology matters. Perhaps most importantly it was what Jesus said that made the most impact, "Go and make disciples of all the nations and teach them to observe all that I have commanded." Observe/obey what Jesus commanded––this is the operative word. Obey Jesus, put in the simplest of ways means to "follow me". As outlined in the four course objectives I will show that my life experiences indeed meet the course ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

So he got to experience so many things and was able to view the world differently from others when he grew up. He put his faith in God when he was young. Timothy's grandmother was named Lois, his mother Eunice. They taught Timothy the Old Testament when he was little and this boy loved it so much. Mary As A Disciple ( Mariology ) Mary as a Disciple (Mariology) Mary was the mother to Jesus Christ, the Messiah, and has been a focus of theological discussion since about the second century. Mary comes from a long line of women in the bible. Prototypes, if you will. These women throughout the Old Testament were chosen by God. This gave way to Mary becoming the "God bearer." A title that was given to her by the Council of Ephesus in 431 C.E. This is obviously where all theological debate dealing with Mariology comes from. To Catholics, Mary is a sign of hope in this fading world. To protestant Christians, Mary is also known as the mother of God. However, many protestant theologians believe that Mary should be honored but within certain limits. The Old Testament in the Holy Bible specifically says in Exodus 34:14, "Do not worship any other god, for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God" . In the New Testament it says in 1 John 5:21, "Little children, keep yourselves from idols". Martin Luther (a German professor of Theology, and founder of the Lutheran Church) was quick to say that Mary should be honored but to only what is fitting. Karl Barth (a reformed protestant theologian) explained that through Mary, Jesus was human, and through Jesus, she is the divine mother of God, and is full of grace that was still given to her by God the Father. Avery Dulles talks of models that churches should strive to uphold, and Mary (mother of God) resembles the church of Servant, Community, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Before we talk about other important things that we can find from the conversation between Christ and disciples, I like to talk about this city. Caesarea Philippi was the location the Cave of Pan, the place of the pagan Gate of Hades. It was in this area that the first king of Israel (Jeroboam) led the northern kingdom of Israel into idolatry. This was also the same place where the Greeks and Romans received revelations from the god Pan who was mentioned in classical writings as a "seer" or fortune teller and a giver of revelations. This city was originally under the control of Romans, however, by the Romans, control got transferred to Herod the Great (Israelite king) in 20 B.C., who subsequently built a temple there to Caesar Augustus. (Yes, this is the same Herod who professed to be Jewish and paid to rebuild the temple in Jerusalem). Following Herod 's death in 4 B.C., his son Philip assumed control of this region. It was he that later renamed the town to Caesarea Philippi, in honor of (Caesar) Tiberius and himself. In other words, this whole place was a symbol of idolization. In this place, Jesus asked two questions to disciples. Which were, "Who do people say that I am?" and "Who do you say that I am?" Roose wanted to see what conservative Christians were really like, how they truly lived. He took notes during his time at Liberty and wrote the book The Unlikely Disciple from his own perspective about his time there. Kevin had a very liberal, secular upbringing. He got the idea to go undercover after he met a group of Liberty students when he was a freshman at Brown. Pyramid Discipleship Essay Pyramid Discipleship – Discipleship in a mega church One of the hardest things to do when you are in a mega church is creating a community of genuine discipleship and not just a "Sunday Church". It can seem like a giant task to take on when looked at head first because creating personal relationships with a thousand or more people is a lot of relationships, but there are ways to do it, and following the mold of pyramid discipleship can be very effective. So what is it? Pyramid discipleship is a system set up in a way to where one person will only take on 5 to 10 (at the very most) people at a time to disciple. And as they continue in their discipling there will be others above them to disciple them as they go. When you actually look at this inside of the church it becomes clearer and easier to understand. At the top of the pyramid would be the senior pastor, a maybe some of the elders or other staff members. Moving down the pyramid would be the staff that would oversee the discipleship program. Weather this be one or two people, this is where the discipleship starts. • 46. Disciple Of The Local Church DISCIPLE MAKING IN THE LOCAL CHURCH A Written Assignment 3 Cynthia Taylor DSMN 500– B10 September, 2014 SUMMARY According to Early & Dempsey, "a disciple is a person, while discipleship is a process. A disciple is a passionate follower of Jesus Christ who is intimately involved in the mission of Christ. On the other hand, discipleship is the process of moving the disciple towards spiritual maturity and the mission of Christ. Being a disciple is God's perfect will for every individual life; however, discipleship is God's will for every individual church" [1] The Great Commission denotes that disciples must be made. Many worship opportunities have been provided by the church such as fellowship, bible study and church events that will aid in developing the mind–set of Christ, being obedient to the commands of Christ, engaging in his commission and being transformed into His image. According to Jesus disciples need to be made and informed. How disciple are made? According to Disciple Shift, pastor and author Jim Putman describes diverse stages of spiritual growth with simplicity. In defining these five spiritual growth stages he informs the reader of their beliefs and how the local church and a Christian community should implement a plan to help individuals to maturity in reaching these stages: spiritually dead, spiritual infants, spiritual children, spiritual young adults, and spiritual parents. Loving and worshiping God began to be more and more part of my daily thinking, motives, actions, and decisions. Years later in this process of growth, I was blessed with a summer internship at a larger congregation in Dallas, Texas. Although I grew from my relationships and from the mentorship I received, I also observed that the bulk of the ministry meetings focused on changing and adapting our church's corporate worship to be more and more "seeker sensitive." The thought was that corporate worship was something malleable that could be altered into something more like the culture of the surrounding neighborhood, so people would want to come. "After all," so the thinking went, "scripture provided only a rough guideline as to what the church is to do when coming together and there is little–to–no reason to keep intact what past generations did or passed down." In essence, we sought to form our corporate worship for the purpose of evangelism. I believed that the important thing to focus on is love of God, love of neighbor, and piety. • 53. Becoming A Disciple Of Jesus In this paper, the writer will reveal how becoming a disciple of Jesus arranged and rearranged life about the 'Great Commission. ' The writer will also express one area that is more efficient to rearrange as a disciple. According to Willard, a disciple is "someone who has decided to be with another person, under appropriate conditions, in order to become capable of doing what that person does or to become what that person is."(282) A disciple of Jesus is learning to be like Jesus, giving up the will of self to the will of Jesus. Just as Jesus surrendered His will to the will of the Father. To be like Jesus, a person must do to Jesus in Luke 9:23, "he must deny himself, and take up his cross daily and follow Me." In other words, a person must completely dedicate themselves to Jesus and be obedient and trust God 's plan for their life. God says in Jeremiah 29:11, "For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare, and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope." God is our ultimate source. He knows what it takes to form a person 's character as being Christlike and developing them as a disciple, just as He did the Twelve. For instance, to arrange and rearrange the writer life 's affairs, the writer had to resign from the job of eight years and six months to follow after Christ and trust His plans for what lies ahead. This presentation serves as a means for students to learn, in–depth, about a major outside of their areas of interest. The assumption is that students haven't had much information presented to them about these disciplines and opportunities afforded by them. After the presentations, each student will be armed with sheets of information about different disciplines and will learn a little something more about each in order to make a ... Disciples And Rituals: Wk5 Devotional Wk5 Devotional After Jesus gives a parable concerning the seriousness of neglecting to accept the invitation of the Gospel, He then proceeds to teach on discipleship and the seriousness of the call to discipleship and its demands. Nothing must come before one's devotion to Christ. Not even family, Father, Mother, Sister, or Brother is to be placed in the reserved position of preeminence for the Lord. Salvation cost Jesus His life, and He was not guilty of any crime that He should die a horrific death, but for the love of His Father and the love of an ungrateful people, He died so that grace would abound. To be a disciple of Christ one must be prepared to die to self and live on purpose for God's purpose. Take up your cross and bear the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This Greek concept described a being from which all things derived their origin and by which all things are held together. Mindful of his Greek audience, John wants to describe Jesus in terms that they would understand. At the beginning of his public ministry Jesus Calls His Disciples, a bunch of unlikely characters from a variety of backgrounds to partner with him in his ministry. This newly formed group of followers went to Cana after performing the first miracle which is turning Water Into Wine. During this miracle, Jesus was at a wedding and they ran out of wine. He then jumped into the water to go to the shore and greet him. • 69. The Christian Disciple, A Follower Of Jesus The Christian disciple is a follower of Jesus who pursues morality through a life of faith and obedience to Christ and His teachings. The faithful disciple places absolute trust in God while he embarks on a quest for a fulfilling life rich in virtue and happiness. Discipleship specifically emphasizes a simplistic lifestyle focused on rejecting consumerism and giving to those in need. In practicing asceticism, however, a follower of Jesus is faced with the decision between two separate Christian lifestyles: rigorous discipleship and responsible consumption. While both of these adaptations center on devotion to the Church, they differ in their understanding of simplicity as presented by the Bible. While rigorous discipleship stresses one's ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A disciple seeks to overcome the "fantasy of consumerism" in order to liberate himself from the unhealthy constraint of material goods (CML 31). The absence of materialism allows him to "find joy and satisfaction more in friendships rather than in possessions" (CML 31). It is the common myth of consumerism that material goods fulfill our wants and thereby make us feel complete. However, this ceaseless desire for wealth and possessions alienates us from personal relationships, therefore diminishing us as human beings. Trapped in the cycle of consumerism, we are often unable to identify the source of our happiness, which, as human beings, is through social and loving relationships with others. Free from an overabundance of material goods, we are able to identify and fulfill the "desires and devotions that truly bring us to life and complete us" (CML 31). It is this practice of simplicity that allows one to connect with God and others. Clearly, an important aspect of discipleship is the rejection of materialism, but rigorous discipleship and its radical idea of "holy poverty" is an outdated and unnecessary path for most of today's practicing Christians. Though an admirable path followed by respectable individuals such as Mother Teresa and Dorothy Day, the extreme lifestyle of rigorous discipleship makes it unrealistic for the majority of Christians. It calls for the follower to live a life free of possessions, to satisfy only the most basic of needs, and to give ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 71. The Definition of Disciple Essay example The Definition of Disciple Discipleship is the core of Christian ethics, especially as the last command of Jesus (28:19). When I heard the word "disciple" in childhood Sunday School, I envisioned an eager, bearded man with dirty robes straining intently towards Jesus, like a child begging to hear more of a bedtime story. In high school youth group, we talked about being good disciples by obeying the rules: no kissing, no running, no talking in church. But as I re–read Dietrich Bonhoeffer's stirring, straightforward work, The Cost of Discipleship as a Lenten devotional, my idea of what a disciple is and does is crumbling like old paint. A few extremists, citing Matthew 16:25 as their justification, say that only those in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Discipleship in Matthew: Building Community The gospel of Matthew is thought to have been written between 60–85A.C.E for those within the Jewish community who believe in Christ as the Messiah. Because the young sect still saw themselves as part of Israel, the persecution they experienced from fellow Israelites called for decisive action: either reconcile with the Jewish leaders or separate completely. In response, Matthew writes a narrative account of Jesus focused on building a solid community still rooted in Jewish heritage, but distinctly different in practice because of Christ (Koester). Establishing a new community requires multiple individuals willing to dedicate themselves to a common identity. Therefore, Matthew's gospel uses the word disciple or disciples 68 times, more than any other synoptic gospel (Longenecker 4). The text is mostly the direct words of Christ, revealing what it means to be a disciple through listening to and obeying Jesus' teaching. In using narrative and didactic styles to convey Jesus' story, Matthew not only shares about the disciples, but seeks to make disciples out of his readers (Donaldson 44). As an unintended result of my paper, then, the reader may find a bit of personal challenge in my analysis. While I will refer to the general theme of discipleship in all of Matthew, I will use the most direct passages–Jesus' commissioning of the twelve in chapter 10 and his challenge to Peter in chapter 16–to illustrate ... • 73. The Gospel Of The Apostles Of Jesus From the time when Jesus ascended into heaven to the present day, Jesus sovereignly works through His children to continue to spread the gospel. For a time, the apostles of Jesus did not have either Jesus with them or His Spirit. During this time, though, the eleven apostles continued to seek God even as they chose a new apostle to take the place of Judas Iscariot. The apostles of Jesus spent this time waiting but not waiting and doing nothing. They prayed and worshiped God together. During one of the times of worship and prayer, the Spirit of God descended upon each one of them. Empowered by the Spirit, they went out preaching and telling people about Jesus in all different languages as the Spirit gave them utterance. As they were preaching, Peter stood up and addressed the gathering crowd and began to preach about Jesus and the crowd's need for Him. As Peter preached, God pricked many in their hearts and they were convicted of their sins. After Peter's sermon, many were baptized. During the time after this, the apostles continued to make new disciples of Jesus through the power of the Spirit. The Spirit was working mightily through the apostles. Just like before, the apostles and the disciples gathered together to worship and to pray to God. During these gatherings, they partook of the Lord's Supper. They fellowshipped and gathered many times. God continued to add to their fellowship daily as many as were called. As the message of Jesus spread to many people, the growth ... • 75. The Disciple Project: Youth Ministry According to Duke Divinity School professor Craig Dykstra, "Christian practices are not activities we do to make something spiritual happen in our lives. Nor are they duties we undertake to be obedient to God. Rather, they are patterns of communal action that create openings in our lives where the grace, mercy, and presence of God may be made known to us. They are places where the power of God is experienced. In the end, these are not ultimately our practices but forms of participation in the practices of God."1 Christian practices offer powerful opportunities for transformation. I've worked in youth ministry for almost 30 years and believe youth ministry is real ministry, youth ministry provides unique opportunities for transformation, and ... She responded honestly that she didn't know, but that she had her pro–con list on a yellow tablet. I looked at her with a start. "That," I said, "that list is your Disciple Project." At the Disciple Project Expo, Sara stood amidst the power points and poster boards with her yellow tablet, on which her pro–con list was written. • 77. Discipleship : The Overarching Purpose Of The Christian... Introduction Making disciples is the overarching purpose of the church. However, many churches struggle with understanding and fulfilling the true meaning of Christian discipleship in individuals' lives. This writing assignment will attempt to expound on several significant aspects of discipleship. The importance of the centrality of Jesus Christ to Christian discipleship will be detailed. Also, obedience to the directives of Christ and submission of particular areas of one's life will be outlined. Finally, the three stages of discipleship according to Dave Earley and Rod Dempsy will be delineated and expanded upon. Centrality of Christ When Jesus is our central focus, a person's vision will have the tendency to become clearer. Jesus ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It should be a natural response to follow Jesus' commands when people are converted to Christianity. The truth is, though, even long–time pastors and church leaders would struggle to answer that question with a resounding yes. The Great Commission is clearly spelled out in Matthew 28:19 where it says, "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost." This is where most people stop as they teach and preach, but the next verse is worthy to be considered anytime a person is interested in sharing content regarding the Great Commission. Verse 20 goes on to say, " Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you...." Therefore, there is no way that we can say that we are satisfying the Great Commission unless we are instructing individuals to "observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you." A person must obey the commands of Jesus before he or she can truly be a disciple. Jesus spoke very clearly in John 14:15 when he said, "If ye love me, keep my commandments." A true follower must adopt the lifestyle of his master. A protégé must learn and follow the instructions of his teacher. Earley and Dempsey said, "Discipleship is not merely a matter of information remembered. It is a lifestyle that is practiced." Even though teaching through various classes are needed and are important, church classes cannot be a substitute for true discipleship. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 79. The Disciples Of Christ Tradition Having grown up United Methodist, it has been compelling to discover how much I have been influenced by Wesleyan theology, without even realizing it. This embedded theology continues to be refined through an ever–deepening understanding of scripture, experience, traditions and with the use of reason. I am most drawn to those theologians who are rooted in this Wesleyan tradition. My mother grew up Disciples of Christ, and her tradition influenced my theology through its broad understanding of faith. This led me toward an openness about the various ways people experience and understand the Divine. The Disciples of Christ tradition also influenced my understanding of baptism, while John Wesley's Treatise on Baptism helped me affirm a Wesleyan ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While being both three and one, the Triune God is both accessible to us through relationship and more expansive than we can fathom. Having experienced both God's nearness and distance in my own life, I am comfortable with the mystery of God. My own relationship with the Divine is sustained through prayer, worship, study, sacrament, vocation, relationships and acts of justice. Throughout my life, especially during more challenging experiences, I felt God nearby, present, and engaged in my life, especially through communion. At other times, God feels more distant, more mysterious, and more unavailable. This ebb and flow in my relationship with God allows me to be comfortable with God being three in one and both immanent and transcendent. I also experience God in moments of tension, when caught between two seemingly distant paradigms. By acknowledging the mystery of God, I am able to have a relationship with God, while God remains infinite and beyond full human comprehension. I believe that God created the world and continues to remain active and responsive to the world as it is. God is, first and foremost, loving. As both Father and Mother, God seeks to be in relationship with the world and calls the church toward a vision of creation that is beautiful, diverse, just, and good. God remains with us, even when we turn away and sin. God's love is greater than we can ever imagine. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
