A Research On Mission Pharmacal And Cms Safety Standards
Mission Pharmacal has retained MainNerve, a company that specializes in enterprise IT compliance
to the NIST standards. MainNerve, LLC has completed a Comprehensive Risk Assessment of
Mission Pharmacal. As such, after a review of the existing Privacy and Security Programs and its
current security posture, MainNerve is providing Mission Pharmacal with this Road to Compliance.
This roadmap will provide suggestions to address the findings related to Mission Pharmacal's
current administrative, technical, and physical security situation.
This Roadmap to Compliance outlines the guiding principles of the Privacy and Security Plan, and
will be a beneficial playbook for how the organization begins to operate in an ongoing state of
compliance for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is your road map to compliance. Depending on how far you are into this large project, some
things may apply more than others. Prioritizing the identified items in rank order will ensure that
mitigation efforts are directed at your most critical risks quickly. This means certain policies should
be written before others, or training for certain aspects will reduce risk more than other training.
Everything provided in this document is a suggestion. You will need to determine what works best
for your organization. There are seven steps that MainNerve recommends be taken to becoming
more secure.
1. Risk Assessment
a. A risk assessment is a process which identifies the risks to confidentiality, integrity, and
availability of protected information, determines the probability of a breach of information, and the
resulting impact for each threat/vulnerability pair identified given the security controls already in
place.
b. It prioritizes risks and results in recommendations for controls that might offset or mitigate the
determined risk.
c. The risk assessment accompanies this document.
2. Assign officers and/or evaluate their roles
a. In order to be certain that the roadmap to compliance is effective, we suggest assigning a well–
trained employee the responsibility of following the roadmap, implementing controls, sanctioning
employees, etc.
i. For Mission Pharmacal, there is no

The Operational Safety Management System
INTRODUCTION "Any well designed safety program or system is only as effective as the day–to–
day ability of everyone in the organisation to rigorously follow procedures correctly and safely
every time." (Angiullo in Hopkins, 2009: p.147) This statement is based on organisational discipline
or each worker as having the self–restraint to perform every task required.
Angiullo supports the statement by discussing the operational safety management system in three
core areas: leadership characteristics; well defined and followed management processes; and
maintenance of high standards. Organisations only fully conform to organisational discipline when
these three areas are effectively implemented within the organisation. (Angiullo in Hopkins, 2009).
This essay will discuss why it is believed to be an utopian statement by comparing the core areas
against the AS/NZ 4801:2001 Occupational health and safety management systems – specification
with guidance for use and supporting literature.
LEADERSHIP CHARACTERISTICS
An organisation's managerial leadership and commitment is defined from the top levels and filters
through to the front line worker. Leadership inspires and motivates only when it is consistent. What
management do or do not do including providing resources, their personal actions or the method of
communication can motivate or demotivate workers (Cutchfield, Roughton 2014). It has been

When the organisation fails to provide the support a team requires the team may be set up to fail
(Xiao et al., 2013). Where safety management systems include the resources, consider the human
limitations and include the requirement of training for technical and non–technical skills such as
team work, situational awareness, communication, leadership, management of stress, coping with
fatigue, etc., improvements in team work significantly enhance the safety of operations (Xiao et al.,
2013; Risser et al., 1999). This has a large potential to reduce the risk of human error.
A review of behaviour specific to high–stress performance has shown high–stress changes
behaviour and may enhance operational effectiveness in a team and improve the margin of safety in
the aviation, military and emergency industries. It also highlighted that poor team work may
contribute to harm to others or oneself (Xiao et al., 2013; Risser et al. 1999). Additionally, the
research indicated that this type of team work may have a flow on effect and positively influence
other areas of an organisation (Xiao et al., 2013; NOPSEMA, 2013; Risser et al. 1999).
If this concept is expanded to the management level of supporting workers, a study in 2014 on best

Toy Safety Standards And Regulations
The toy industry is consistently growing and expanding within the United States. In 2015, the toy
industry grew 7% in domestic sales from 2014, with a net worth of $19.48 billion. Demand for toys
is vastly seasonal with nearly 70% of toy sales taking place before, during, and just after the
Christmas season. Because of this, it is important for those within the toy industry to predict demand
during peak season in order to avoid heavy markdowns after the holidays. Lego's largest
competitors are Mattel and Hasbro. However, with Lego's net income as a percentage of sales at an
impressive 24%, they greatly surpass Mattel and Hasbro with net income coming in at 14% and 7%,
respectively.
Because the toy industry makes use of assembly lines, machines, and manual labor; it is considered
a manufacturing, or secondary, industry.
The United States has some of the strictest toy safety standards and regulations in the world. Any
toy intended for use by children age 12 and under must be third party tested and certified with a
Children's Product Certificate (CPSC). However, not every section of the Children's Product
Certificate may apply to any given toy. The document is lengthy with a multitude of provisions.
Each provision may not necessarily may to any given toy. For example, toys that don't make and
noise would not need to adhere to sound provisions. Although certain sections may be exempt, each
applicable provision much be in compliance with the toy safety standard.

What Is Standardized Work
Standardized work
Need for a system in place to solve the problem of occurrence.
1. The basic requirement for a successful plant operation is to have a system in place to solve
problems as and when it arises.
2. Find the right people to lead this system.
"How long has a skipper got to react if he spots a problem?" And "How long has a manager got to
react if a quality problem arises?"
The reaction time on any problem by Supervisor will be quicker than the plant manager who has to
wait for a report to analyze the situation. The Supervisor / Operators need to have a process for
correcting problems as and when they arise. It is 'how' a person does it and the results obtained
which matters.
It is like wartime, every time you develop ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Standardized work focuses on 5w and 1 h. 5w (who, what, when, where, and why) – who operates
the process, what does final product look and quality checks, when will it be ready, where to
complete the process, why this step essential? 1 h (how) – "how" is the process to follow the time
and resource. Overall the process should be smooth. Standardized work is best practices known and
which are put in place by documenting the process. Standardized work is to ensure optimization of
productivity, safety and quality. The goal of standardization is to ensure all 3 i.e. productivity, safety
and quality are met in highest standard. Standardized work can be defined as sequence of job
functions organized efficiently and followed by an operator repeatedly. The process of standardized
work's ultimate aim is to achieve kaizen. If there is no change or progress in standardized work, then
the plant is in regression.
As Taiichi Ohno rightly says – "People don't go to Toyota to 'work', they go there to think". "where
there is no standard, there can be no kaizen", and "Improvement is endless and

Industrial Safety Differences in Unmanned Aerial Systems
Industrial Safety Differences in Unmanned Aerial Systems
Although they tend to be smaller than manned aircraft including most small general aviation types,
UAVs are indeed aircraft and all of the industrial safety measures that apply in other forms of
aviation also apply here. At this point it is appropriate to define a few terms; Remotely Piloted
Vehicle/Aircraft (RPV/Aircraft) refers to an aircraft or vehicle piloted from the ground. Unmanned
Aerial Vehicles (UAV) may be piloted from the ground or autonomously controlled through a
software program. Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) refers to the combination of unmanned vehicle
and all control, sensor, payload and maintenance elements necessary for mission accomplishment.
Currently the majority of the UAVs operated by the United States are military assets, and as such are
subject to policies, requirements and regulations of the military. These safety requirements will be
briefly discussed. As unmanned systems are integrated into national airspace they will be operated
in increasing numbers by civil operators, for this reason we will also look at civil safety
requirements. UAS will also present some unique situations which have up to this point not been
experienced; this will require new areas to be incorporated into the aviation industrial safety arena
to ensure our current level of safety is not degraded through their inclusion. This paper will
investigate aviation industrial safety as it applies specifically to

The Occupational Health And Safety Standards
As safety practitioners, we need to understand that procedures can be the nemesis of any
occupational health and safety (OHS) management system. Getting it wrong can be the difference
between success and failure in safety compliance.
Sometimes procedures are created too rigid and bureaucratic, and other times they're non–specific
and ineffectual. The point is no one wants to be under the burden of unnecessary or unusable
procedures. What is needed is the right balance of simple instructions that are easy to read and
comprehend.
Developing your Safety Procedures
Procedures should communicate to employees what they need to know to do their job safely. Here
are 5 simple steps to follow:
1. Justification – Ensure there is a genuine reason for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Always consider the following options:
Flowchart – This shows a process as a simple diagram. By using a series of symbols and arrows to
indicate flow and action you can outline a process and make it easy to follow.
Tip: Don't complicate your chart with too many symbols or too much text. It should flow naturally
from start to finish and be structured in a logical way.
Photographs or Diagrams – Are commonly used especially where there is difficulty in
communicating due to illiteracy or use of multiple languages. The main goal of visualisation is to
make it possible to absorb large amounts of data quickly.
Tip: The saying "A picture is worth a thousand words" refers to the notion that a complex idea can
be conveyed with just a single still image. However just make sure you check that your image or
diagram is saying the right words to employees.
Step 4: Writing Style.
Remember when you write you need to consider the end–user, the person who has to read and
understand your procedure. To ensure success adopt the following simple rules of writing;
Use plain everyday English words or local language. The use of uncommon, long or complex words
or sentences should be avoided where possible.
Keep to short paragraphs and avoid using too many words. Just be specific enough to communicate
clearly.
Write at the appropriate reading level.
Try to keep the procedure itself to a reasonable size

Abstract:
With the expectation from CASA for newly established flight operations to design and implement a
Safety Management System (SMS) the task has been set to do so for an airline with 12 regional
aircraft and 200 employees. The aim of an SMS is to monitor and manage the overall safety
operations that occur within an airline. The use of an SMS has proven extremely successful as it
solidifies the communication between operators and management. An SMS consists of four (4) main
components: Safety assurance; Safety risk management; safety promotion; and safety policy. Each
of these components plays a major role in ensuring the safe operation of an airline.
Introduction:
With the aviation industry exponentially expanding it is essential to ensure that those safety
standards which are in place are working effectively. It is primarily the responsibility of the Chief
Executive Officer (CEO) to ensure that his or her airline is not only profitable but is also safe. The
balance between production and protection is a fine line and as such there need to be systems in
place to ensure production is not outweighing protection.
Airlines in the developed world endeavour to not only meet, but to exceed the expectations of the
standards set by regulatory bodies within the aviation industry. This can be done through the
implementation of an SMS as well as by revising and enhancing

Do people have to die for things to be changed? In NASCAR they are always looking at safety and
standards that are always changing. NASCAR stands for the National Association for Stock Car
Racing. NASCAR has been a big part of my life since I was a child. When I was young not only did
I watch the races on TV with my family, I would be at the track every week with my racing family,
watching at a NASCAR sanctioned track. Racing had become a drastic part of my life at an early

What can NASCAR do to create a safer environment for the drivers in the car you may ask. The
responsibility of safety is not only in the hands of the driver or the track they all have to work
together to create a safer environment for racing. NASCAR sanctions tracks throughout the United
States. At the beginning of every year they send out their rule book to the tracks and some rules such
as seat belts. neck restraints. and rules on getting out of your car on the track are required. On the
other hand the other rules are just guidelines. The tracks can pick or choose which rules that they
want to follow or they can change the rules slightly. It is up to the track officials to choose the safest
rules to follow to have a safe and controlled racing experience (DeRidder). Not only are varying
rules an issue in keeping the drivers safe. At NASCAR's level the cars are inspected on a weekly
basis to make sure that everything is up to NASCAR's standards and rules. At the smaller tracks that
are sanctioned by NASCAR they don't have the manpower to check every car every week to make
sure that the driver or crew didn't change anything or just not have the right equipment. Also, at the
NASCAR level they have a new car almost every week unlike at the smaller tracks where racing
crews don't have the money to have new cars every week. In the lower classes cars can be driven as

This type of growth is important as it helps the child grow and provides a purpose for the child.
Another benefit is that this toy will encourage solitary and active play, types of social patterns and
play, which is vital for child's development. This toy supports skill development through maturation
as children will learn how to play with this toy as they mature cognitively. According to Piaget's
idea of schemas which are created by assimilation and accommodation, the schema for the child in
the preoperational stage will be that they will think that two different shapes of the same colour
would both fit into the same cut–out hole in the box, when in fact, they will not. The child then goes
through assimilation, where they will adjust their existing schema and understand that an object can
be classified by more than one feature. The state of the schema is then changed from disequilibrium
to equilibrium. Therefore, this toy is developmentally appropriate to children in the preoperational
stage as it will encourage the child to overcome an issue they face in their age period. PART C:

Mattel and Ttoy Recalls
The Mattel and the Toy Recalls integrative case poses six questions (four from the case and two
from the professor) which will be addressed in this analysis.
1. What went wrong with Mattel's recall strategy?
The strategy used by Mattel in the toy recall was focused on passing the blame to China's work
practices and materials used. Mattel prematurely placed disproportionate blame on Chinese
manufacturers and appeared defensive and somewhat fearful. In addition, the toy manufacture
delayed reporting to the CPSC by a month and a half after they found out that the toys contained
lead paint, even though the CPSC guidelines state that a re–call should be issued in 24 hours.
2. Who are Mattel's stakeholders, who did Mattel cater to in the ... Show more content on

Given the circumstances Mattel did what it had to do from the standpoint of communication to
reduce the reputational damage and keep the stock price afloat.
Regaining consumer confidence and controlling the dissemination of product safety information
requires strong corporate communicators who can deliberately balance supplier, customer,
governmental, media, and investor relationships.
4. What should Mattel do know and in the future?
First and foremost Mattel should improve two–way, interpersonal communication with two key
customers: parents and the retailers. Corporate communication campaigns should increase
interaction with consumers online via message boards and social media. Retailers have the most
face–to–face contact with consumers. Mattel should equip them to answer consumer questions
comprehensively and accurately.
In the future Mattel should aim to anticipate future crises by scanning domestic and international
consumer watch groups, industry websites and work even closer with CPSC. The understanding of
domestic and international markets is crucial in being ready to prevent any safety related issues that
are on the horizon. Mattel should strive to ensure that each country receives products held to the
same safety standards as the US. Sub–standard products should not be dumped on developing
markets. The one miss for a lot of international companies is the lack of understanding cultural
nuances and

The Safety Standards Of Mercury
Mercury is extremely dangerous to humans due to its extreme conditions not suitable to human life.
Missions to Mercury must be conducted with infallible safety standards to prevent incidents such as
what has happened in the past. These safety standards must consider all possible circumstances in
which measures must be taken. When doing missions on Mercury safety should be the number one
priority. Before creating safety standards, it is important to first acknowledge issues and situations
that has arisen in the past. Awhile back, a team of scientist were sent to complete a mission on
Mercury. Accompanied with them was a robot that went by the name of Speedy. Speedy was a
multifunctional robot built to assist the scientist with whatever they needed. Speedy was especially
useful against Mercuries harsh conditions. He was able to maneuver the surface where humans
could not. Before arriving on Mercury, the team knew they would need selenium in order to repair
their photo–cell banks. These banks are important in keeping the base on Mercury from burning up.
Speedy was capable of retrieving this selenium, but was the only one capable of doing so. This is
because he was the only robot sent with the team. The safety flaw in only having one robot to
complete a life or death task is enormous. Standards at the time did not take into account flaws in
technology. On the day of the mission, Speedy was sent out to retrieve the selenium. The scientist
found it rather strange that he had not

Security Standards And Security Safety Standards
Government Security Standards
The government and organizations are to comply with security laws and regulations in order to fully
operate and maintain protection of information systems. Some of these security laws and regulations
may vary for every industry and with some organizations; however, implementing security
standards with a broad in scope provides reliable reasonable security. In many cases reasonable
security implemented throughout the information system can include a high–level of protection in
the operation of government and organization systems. There are best practices and risk
management frameworks tools to consider when providing a higher level of security in the
performance and protection of information systems. It's key to maintain effective security policies
that are fulfilled by security standards and tools to help manage the protection of the information
systems.
Security standards are required to carry out the details of an effective security policy. One common
standard in security standards is to ensure ethics are maintained in a lawful way. The difference
between government and commercial security standards is government security standards focus on
compliance with security policies that deal with national security; whereas, health organizations
maintain security standards that focus on compliance with security policy that ensure the privacy of
health records. The security policy provides the rules of protection for the information system and

2.2 How and when should you report any concerns around health and safety?
Risk assessment is about identifying the risks and putting things in place to reduce or remove the
risks.
Slips, trips and falls are the most common cause of non–fatal major injuries in service industries and
account for over half of all reported injuries – Source HSE.
Example:
Slips – Wet floors because something has been spilt or an individual has just had a bath
Put "Caution – Wet Floor" sign up to alert other people of the danger.
Trips – Electrical leads carelessly left trailing across the floor – Frayed carpets or mats
Cleaners bucket left in a walkway – Tidy up the leads so they do not cross a walkway
Alert a maintenance person or your supervisor immediately
Remove obstacle and inform cleaners.
Moving and Positioning
3.1 Are you aware of the key legislation that relates to "moving and positioning"?

Fortunately for the coal industry, threat of new entrants is moderately low due to several barriers of
entry. There is a high capital and fundamentals of the industry needed to be able to fruitfully
compete. There are substantial beginning investments in the necessary groundwork. The cost of
equipment, resources and labor are extremely high. There is a narrow quantity of natural resources
which has a restricted capacity and decreasing supply. The industry has a competitive real–estate–
intensive nature and the property for mining is highly valued and expensive. To enter you must have
knowledge and capabilities to lessen the impact on the environment and be aware of the regulations
from the law to protect the environment.
Substitute products are moderate and include natural gas and renewable energy as alternate
products. Renewable energy demand is mounting and natural gas use is rising yearly. There is also
continual research and exploration in other energy producing technologies such as wind and solar
power. Buyers have moderate to low bargaining power because the industry can pass high prices
due to the need, demand, and the limited supply of natural resources in the world. There are not
substitutes at the same price availability in large quantities at this point. This increases the need of
buyers and reduces their bargaining power. Furthermore a considerable number of the industry has

The Purpose Of OSHA Safety Standards
What is the purpose of OSHA safety standards? Do you think that businesses would take substantial
safety precautions without the imposition of such standards? Does compliance with OSHA safety
standards increase the cost of doing business in the United States? Why, or why not? Employers are
responsible for providing a safe and healthy workplace for their employees. OSHA 's role is to
ensure the safety and health of America 's workers by setting and enforcing standards. This can be
attained through provision of training, outreach, education, establishing partnerships and
encouraging continuous improvement in workplace safety and health. It is advisable that any
business take substantial safety precautions without imposition of the standards because at the end
of the day both employers and workers want to go home safe and healthy in order to be able to
resume productivity during future tasks. American employers and workers want safe and healthy
work places. They want everyone on the job to go home whole and healthy each day. In accordance
with the determination to make that dream possible, OSHA is committed to assuring – so far as

regulations in place. It is best if these sets of regulations are developed and maintained
independently from battery manufacturers, automobile manufacturers, and/or suppliers. Currently
today there are many bodies that maintain these standards. A few of them include UL (Underwriters

* Hand washing is the most important method of preventing the spread of infection by contact
(Ayliffe et al 1999). The Nottingham University Trust Policy on Hand Hygiene (2009) states that
there are three types of hand hygiene, the first is 'routine hand hygiene' which involves the use of
soap and water for 15 – 20 seconds or the application of alcohol hand rub until the hand are dry. The
second is 'hand disinfection' which should be used prior to an aseptic procedure by washing with
soap and water and applying alcohol hand rub afterwards. The third is 'surgical hand washing' which
is the application of a microbial agent to the hands and wrists for two minutes. In addition to which
a sterile, disposable brush may be used for the first surgical hand wash of the day although
continued use will encourage colonisation of microbes. The third example is the most appropriate to
any O.D.P undertaking the surgical role as it is the best way for the surgical team to eliminate
transient flora and reduce resident skin flora (World Health Organization 2010). The first and
second are important to any O.D.P undertaking any other role within the Operating Department as
this is the best way to reduce the transient microbial flora without necessarily affecting the resident
skin flora

Environmental Safety Standards For Mining
September 2014, reports a pre–tax net present value of $282 million and a pre–tax internal rate of
return of 38.8% (Aquila Resources). The mine is predicted to furnish 250 jobs and $20 million in
tax revenue (Aquila Resources). These "250 permanent positions resulting in a multi–million –
dollar impact to the local economy...will be good, family–supporting positions and Aquila is
committed to hiring local residents for as many jobs as possible" (Aquila Resources). In addition,
the metals that the Back Forty mine will be producing are crucial to people's everyday lives from
cars and computers to green technologies and healthcare (Aquila Resources).
Aquila proclaims a staunch commitment to safe, environmentally conscious mining "meeting or
exceeding Michigan's very high environmental safety standards for mining" (Aquila Resources).
The Flambeau mine in Ladysmith, Wisconsin is often cited as a sulfide mine success story in which
no environmental incidents occurred and serves to support the argument for the Back Forty Mine
(Gedicks 12). However, 14 years following the close of this copper–gold mine, water samples
actually reveal high levels of pollutants (Gedicks 13). Thus, Al Gedicks of the Department of
Sociology at the University of Wisconsin–La Crosse argues that if the Flambeau Mine, one of the
world's newest and smallest mines, led to pollution problems how can Aquila Resources expect to
protect the Menominee River water which will be under the even larger Back Forty mine

Research Critique
Introduction
This research was conducted in order to evaluate the effect of a perioperative safety checklist on
perioperative safety standards and the quality of inter–professional cooperation from the staff's
perspective. A 19–item questionnaire was used to survey employees' attitudes regarding safety–
relevant aspects of the perioperative period, work processes, and quality of inter–professional
cooperation before and 3 months after the implementation of a 'Surgical Safety Checklist'.
The results of this study showed that after the introduction of the checklist, the criteria for
evaluating perioperative safety standards and the quality of inter–professional cooperation were

This section makes it very clear that the purpose of this article is to evaluate perioperative safety
standards and the quality of inter–professional cooperation before and after the implementation of a
safety checklist.
Abstract
The abstract clearly and effectively summarizes the research report. It was logically organized into a
background, methods, results, and conclusion section and was very useful in helping me decide
whether or not this article would be useful in answering my clinical question. This section clearly
identifies that the population being studied is the operating room staff which is relevant to my
research question.
Introduction (including literature review/use of previous research)
The report does include an introduction section although it is not clearly identified with a bold
heading. I do think that this section discusses aspects of my clinical question. This section clearly
states the relevance of the research question and its importance in nursing. The majority of the
literature cited is current relative to the publication date of the article and contributes to the
understanding of the research question.
This section presents the idea that the implementation of the 'Surgical Safety Checklist', which was
promoted by the World Health Organization (WHO), caused a significant decline in the occurrence

Why I Don 't Be A Professional
Being in charge of a group of children can be a tad bit overwhelming at times, however once you
realize that children don't care if your singing is horrible, or it you mess up in the reading of the
book. All they care about is that your taking time to teach and interact with them. They want you to
take the time to read them, and play house with them. Listen to their silly stories as well as tell silly
stories. Children are curious about the world and only get the opportunity to be a child once in their
life.

back to school, dental hygiene, fall fun and/or recycling. After the story we discussed what we were
going to be working on and maybe what was going to happen during the day. We would then sing
some more songs and then dismiss to go play at centers. Being able to successfully lead a group

Safety Standards in the Meat Packing Industry Essay
Due to health reasons, the meat packing industry has aroused the attention of many. This has been
caused by the safety standards in the meat packing industry. The attention has also been caused by
the use of machines in the packing process. The industry uses fast running machines hence the
employees are exposed to more injury risk. The industry is majorly comprised of immigrants and
undocumented employees. This has greatly attracted attention due to the care for the employees who
are mainly non–citizens (United States Department of Labor, 2010). The situation has led to several
labor organizations teaching the employees on safety and health administration. For instance the

made provision for the availing of personal protective equipments in the industry, responses to the
various concerns about unsanitary and unsafe conditions in the meat packing industry among others.
However, the organization had no regulation specifically for the minors in the industry (OSHA
Quick take, 2010). Due to the high rate of illnesses, accidents and injuries in the industry, the
organization further developed a hazard recognition program. This was greatly supported by the
directives and the standards the organization drafted. The organization also set a safety and health
program. This mainly depended on the credibility of management's involvement in the program.
This program provided for the inclusion of the employees in the program. The program also
provided for the inclusion of the employees in the different decision making processes such as the
safety and health decisions. The employees were also to be included in the decisions that involved
change in the work site practices and conditions. The program addressed hazards despite failure by
the government standard to regulate it (Brain Mass, 2010). Due to the drastic expansion in the
animal production industry, this has led to the expansion of the meat packing industry too. This has
greatly attracted more investors in the industry as it poses as a good investment. The corporations

Radiation Safety And Protection Standards
X–rays were first discovered in 1895, and from that moment on, the use of x–rays as a diagnostic
tool has been instrumental in diagnosing disease. Although commonly called x–rays, or simply
radiation, scientists have more specifically termed the form of radiation, "ionizing radiation." The
World Health Organization defines ionizing radiation as "radiation with enough energy, so that
during an interaction with an atom, it can remove tightly bound electrons from the orbit of an atom,
causing the atom to become charged or ionized" (2014). Because the human body is made up of
atoms, ionizing radiation has the ability to alter the composition of atoms in the body, by targeting
electrons. This effect can alter DNA structure and function, which ... Show more content on

Ionizing radiation is used worldwide in medicine to help physicians diagnose and treat a multitude
of health problems. According to the World Health Organization, "annually, worldwide, more than
3,600 million X–ray examinations are performed, 37 million nuclear medicine procedures are
carried out, and 7.5 million radiotherapy treatments are given" (2014). With so many patients
exposed to ionizing radiation in medicine, strict global safety regulations must be enforced to ensure
patient exposure is kept as low as possible. Using the basic principle of ALARA (As Low As
Reasonably Achievable), global organizations analyze patient exposures to ensure their radiation
dose levels are kept as low as possible, without compromising the integrity of examinations. These
organizations also ensure that radiation workers are not receiving unnecessary occupational
exposure. Certain cells and tissues are more susceptible to radiation damage than others. Those cells
considered most radiosensitive can include those of the "the basal epidermis, bone marrow, thymus,
gonads, and lens," meaning they can be affected even by small doses of radiation (Goodman, 2010).
In contrast, "Muscle, bones, and nervous system tissues have a relative low radiosensitivity,"
meaning they require larger amounts of radiation exposure to show damaging effects (Goodman,
2010). Patient exposure is determined by dosimeters,

Standard 4 Medication Safety Case Study
The standard from the National Safety and Quality Health Service (2012) that I believe has the
highest risk associated for a graduate nurse is Standard 4 Medication Safety (Bain). If best practice
outlined in this standard is not abided by, then medication errors occur and may lead to poor
outcomes for patients. These outcomes include longer hospitalisations, increased costs and death
(Cheragi et al., 2014).
Medication errors are preventable and cause great harm to the patients and their families. Every year
in Australian hospitals, medication errors occur as nurses do not follow the 9 rights of medication
administration. The 9 rights are right patient, drug, route, time, documentation, response, action and
form (Fossum et al., 2016). Medication errors can be caused by ... Show more content on

In Australian hospitals medication administration errors make up 9% or 1 in10 of all medication
administrations. These errors include wrong doses, wrong intravenous infusion rates and errors
made by prescribing doctors. Errors on discharge of patients were increasingly higher with up to 2
errors per patient related to doctors transcribing discharge medications (Roughead, Semple, &
Rosenfeld, 2016).
As a graduate nurse there are strategies that I will use to ensure that Standard 4 Medication Safety is
adhered to and patient outcomes are improved. The two strategies I would use include double
checking of medication with another nurse and ensuring patient identifiers are being used.
Double checking of medications with a senior nurse is a strategy that is used to improve patient
safety by reducing medication errors. This is especially important for paediatric medication
administration. It is important that staff members both do dosage calculations separately, as this is
how errors are discovered before the medications are administered (Lan, Wang, Yu, Chen, Wu, &

The Safety And Health Standards Essay
Introduction
The occupational safety and health standards ensures the understanding in hazardous
communications. The hazardous communications section ensures also the transmission of hazardous
materials and chemicals appropriately. The development of hazardous communication is
implemented especially in written communication program in order for the employees to apply it in
the working environment. This is essential because it serve as the protective measures of the
employees in the work place.
The OSHA Training programs provides training programs which could help the employees
regarding the use of chemicals and safety standards. The section 1910.1200 (b) (1) states that the
manufacturers of chemicals and hazardous materials should be classified and labeled the chemical
materials in order to create a protective measure to the employees. The import chemical and
producers should ensure that the information about the materials are held before it reached the
workplace.
Definition
The Hazard Communication Standard is set for protecting employees from hazardous materials. The
Hazard Communication Training is also implied in a work environment for those employees who
are prone in dealing with hazardous materials. This is done through communication with employees
about the hazardous chemical inventory, the material data sheets, safety data sheets, labels, tags,
signs, and the written communication hazard program (Keller, 1953).

What Are The Four Federal Safety Standards
4 Federal Safety Standards Your Company Must Follow to a Tee
The Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) employs about 2,200 safety inspectors
that oversee over 130 million workers in eight million worksites. OSHA safety inspectors are tasked
with investigating accidents, performing surprise inspections and consulting with companies to
improve safety conditions. The last thing that any company needs is a surprise inspection that results
in hefty fines and safety citations. Read below to learn about four federal safety standards that your
company must follow. https://www.osha.gov/pls/oshaweb/owadisp.show_document?

According to OSHA, lack of fall protection is the most frequency cited violation. For example,
construction sites notoriously fail to provide adequate fall protection systems. As a result, this is the
leading cause of worker fatalities in the construction industry. On the other hand, any company that
requires employees to work on surfaces above six feet will be required to provide adequate guardrail
and personal fall protection systems. For example, a regular office–based business that requires
maintenance personnel to fix roofing problems will be required to follow federal fall protection
standards.

Reactive Supervisors Essay
An entire industry, multiple government organizations and billions of dollars spent to govern,
monitor, and enforce safety. With all this oversight, why does safety fail? Anyone who deals with
safety on a day–to–day basis would love to have this question answered. Many people have lost
hair, sleep, patience, and time pondering, "how did this happen?" Most times through the course of
research and investigations, the answer is; safety fails when people routinely deviate from standard
without repercussion, supervision is inadequate, or when people begin to rush. Latent failure is the
term used to identify an error in the safety system that lays dormant for a period. Latent failures by
themselves seldom cause an accident but rather ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By not investing the possibilities that they may face nonstandard events in the future, they set
themselves and those in their charge up for issues. Supervisors who are able to look ahead at
impending issues will be able to react quicker and have better results. Even worse is the tendency
for reactive supervisors to become over reactive supervisors. Over reaction may come in many
forms but all will share one common trend, they will be detrimental to those they affect. Close–
minded supervisors and those that blindly enforce the standard are similar in nature but differ in
reason and drive. Close–mindedness is a product of refusing to see another's point of view where as
someone blindly enforcing standards may be doing so with all the best intentions but may not be
aware of the benefits of pushing for a change to the standard. Of all the supervisors for a safety
system, the most burdening is one that only identifies issues and shortcomings but never presents a
solution. The impact this style of supervision has on those under it cannot be understated it is
morally exhausting. Workers who constantly have to wade through issue after issue with an apparent
abandonment from the supervisors that never produce a solution will begin to get sloppy, apathetic,
and rush just to be done with

Environmental Sanctions And Safety Standards
Introduction
Coal is king. The coal industry controls the economy of states, and states rely on it for electricity.
However, many families involved in the industry of coal are experiencing profound economic
difficulty. This must be resolved to improve the economic disparity in West Virginia, a state known
for a large coal mining industry. Many mining families experience this economic difficulty,
particularly due to health risks and job situations.
Much research has been done into the effects of a large coal industry. "In just the past twenty years,
air pollution from coal plants have shortened the lives of more than half a million Americans." (Jeff
Goodell, 2006). Mining kills; and it even affects those uninvolved in the production of it. There are
a vast amount of environmental sanctions and safety standards in mines. These are laws and
regulations meant to protect the population, yet most do not follow them correctly. Companies must
pay for all of this, however paying for regulations cuts into profit margins. These companies manage
to still make profit by shutting down deficit mines, but mainly make up costs by laying off
employees. This process results in a never–ending cycle of downtrodden individuals trying to make
ends meet. Mining is a neutral party, it has negatives and positives, both of which impact the
Appalachia community significantly.
Mining has a vast assortment of negatives that are constantly being discussed. Mining can damage

The Safety Of The Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta International...
Abstract
This paper will discuss the many different processes and procedures that play into the overall safety
of the Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport (KATL). There are countless facets and
aspects when it comes to airport operations. The safety aspect is no different. Airports must keep a
positive representation in the media and keeping all areas as safe as possible is paramount. The
overall safety operations of an airport would simply be too much try convey so instead, this research
paper focuses on a large subsection KATL safety known as ramp operations. It follows along and
details different aspects of the Ramp Safety Standards Manual created by the Department of
Aviation for the city of Atlanta. In doing so, the paper provides a clear view of how ramp operations
at KATL relate to system safety.
System Safety of Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport Ramp Operations
Introduction
Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport has been deemed the busiest airport in the world
for the past 17 years straight (Mutzabaugh, 2015). One huge aspect of having such consistent
success over the years has been the airport's ability to maintain a safe and secure working
environment. This is particularly important on the airside of the airport where aircrafts are
continually turning, burning, and finding their place among the many gates of the terminal. More
specifically, the ramp at KATL is a complex stretch of concrete where aircraft, flight

Part B Integrated Summary- Surgical Safety
PART B INTEGRATED SUMMARY– SURGICAL SAFETY
The World Health Organisation (WHO) implemented the surgical safety checklist, to minimise the
discrepancies that occur as a result of improper identification of the patient (appendix O post 3).
Improper identification leads to wrong procedure, hence complication and possibly death (Position
Statement Surgical Safety 2015). The WHO checklist helps to improve surgical safety through
confirming safety practices are upheld and developing better communication within the
multidisciplinary team (Position Statement Surgical Safety 2015), thus providing optimum patient
care (ACORN Competency standard 5). Surgery related complication and mortality was reduce by
33%, through a study of eight hospitals from 2007 to 2008 (Position Statement Surgical Safety
2015). Therefore proving that compliance with safety measure were increased as a result of
endorsing the SSC, and obliges to competency standard 3.3. Through briefing and debriefing,
standard of care is improved, as the whole multidisciplinary team is made aware of the procedure,
and allows for optimal performance, which decrease surgery time, thus improve surgical safety
(ACORN Competency Standard 9). Furthermore it is important that each hospital adapt their own
policy in regards to the type of facility, such as in the occurrence of near miss episode (appendix 1,),
institutions must refine their policy to provide the best care for the patients (Position Statement
Surgical Safety 2015).

A Research On Mission Pharmacal And Cms Safety Standards

  • 1. A Research On Mission Pharmacal And Cms Safety Standards Mission Pharmacal has retained MainNerve, a company that specializes in enterprise IT compliance to the NIST standards. MainNerve, LLC has completed a Comprehensive Risk Assessment of Mission Pharmacal. As such, after a review of the existing Privacy and Security Programs and its current security posture, MainNerve is providing Mission Pharmacal with this Road to Compliance. This roadmap will provide suggestions to address the findings related to Mission Pharmacal's current administrative, technical, and physical security situation. This Roadmap to Compliance outlines the guiding principles of the Privacy and Security Plan, and will be a beneficial playbook for how the organization begins to operate in an ongoing state of compliance for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is your road map to compliance. Depending on how far you are into this large project, some things may apply more than others. Prioritizing the identified items in rank order will ensure that mitigation efforts are directed at your most critical risks quickly. This means certain policies should be written before others, or training for certain aspects will reduce risk more than other training. Everything provided in this document is a suggestion. You will need to determine what works best for your organization. There are seven steps that MainNerve recommends be taken to becoming more secure. 1. Risk Assessment a. A risk assessment is a process which identifies the risks to confidentiality, integrity, and availability of protected information, determines the probability of a breach of information, and the resulting impact for each threat/vulnerability pair identified given the security controls already in place. b. It prioritizes risks and results in recommendations for controls that might offset or mitigate the determined risk. c. The risk assessment accompanies this document. 2. Assign officers and/or evaluate their roles a. In order to be certain that the roadmap to compliance is effective, we suggest assigning a well– trained employee the responsibility of following the roadmap, implementing controls, sanctioning employees, etc. i. • 2. The Operational Safety Management System INTRODUCTION "Any well designed safety program or system is only as effective as the day–to– day ability of everyone in the organisation to rigorously follow procedures correctly and safely every time." (Angiullo in Hopkins, 2009: p.147) This statement is based on organisational discipline or each worker as having the self–restraint to perform every task required. Angiullo supports the statement by discussing the operational safety management system in three core areas: leadership characteristics; well defined and followed management processes; and maintenance of high standards. Organisations only fully conform to organisational discipline when these three areas are effectively implemented within the organisation. (Angiullo in Hopkins, 2009). This essay will discuss why it is believed to be an utopian statement by comparing the core areas against the AS/NZ 4801:2001 Occupational health and safety management systems – specification with guidance for use and supporting literature. LEADERSHIP CHARACTERISTICS An organisation's managerial leadership and commitment is defined from the top levels and filters through to the front line worker. Leadership inspires and motivates only when it is consistent. What management do or do not do including providing resources, their personal actions or the method of communication can motivate or demotivate workers (Cutchfield, Roughton 2014). Leadership inspires and motivates only when it is consistent. What management do or do not do including providing resources, their personal actions or the method of communication can motivate or demotivate workers (Cutchfield and Roughton, 2014). It has been identified that leadership language, behaviour and trustworthiness shapes the beliefs and behaviours within an organisation. This means that ultimately leaders play a key role and may either promote or detract from a safety culture (Cooper, 1998; NOPSEMA , 2013). The leaders set the culture of the business through communication of policy, vision and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When the organisation fails to provide the support a team requires the team may be set up to fail (Xiao et al., 2013). Where safety management systems include the resources, consider the human limitations and include the requirement of training for technical and non–technical skills such as team work, situational awareness, communication, leadership, management of stress, coping with fatigue, etc., improvements in team work significantly enhance the safety of operations (Xiao et al., 2013; Risser et al., 1999). This has a large potential to reduce the risk of human error. A review of behaviour specific to high–stress performance has shown high–stress changes behaviour and may enhance operational effectiveness in a team and improve the margin of safety in the aviation, military and emergency industries. It also highlighted that poor team work may contribute to harm to others or oneself (Xiao et al., 2013; Risser et al. 1999). Additionally, the research indicated that this type of team work may have a flow on effect and positively influence other areas of an organisation (Xiao et al., 2013; NOPSEMA, 2013; Risser et al. 1999). • 5. Toy Safety Standards And Regulations The toy industry is consistently growing and expanding within the United States. In 2015, the toy industry grew 7% in domestic sales from 2014, with a net worth of $19.48 billion. Demand for toys is vastly seasonal with nearly 70% of toy sales taking place before, during, and just after the Christmas season. Because of this, it is important for those within the toy industry to predict demand during peak season in order to avoid heavy markdowns after the holidays. Lego's largest competitors are Mattel and Hasbro. However, with Lego's net income as a percentage of sales at an impressive 24%, they greatly surpass Mattel and Hasbro with net income coming in at 14% and 7%, respectively. Because the toy industry makes use of assembly lines, machines, and manual labor; it is considered a manufacturing, or secondary, industry. The United States has some of the strictest toy safety standards and regulations in the world. Any toy intended for use by children age 12 and under must be third party tested and certified with a Children's Product Certificate (CPSC). However, not every section of the Children's Product Certificate may apply to any given toy. The document is lengthy with a multitude of provisions. Each provision may not necessarily may to any given toy. For example, toys that don't make and noise would not need to adhere to sound provisions. Although certain sections may be exempt, each applicable provision much be in compliance with the toy safety standard. The toy industry ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. What Is Standardized Work Standardized work Need for a system in place to solve the problem of occurrence. 1. The basic requirement for a successful plant operation is to have a system in place to solve problems as and when it arises. 2. Find the right people to lead this system. "How long has a skipper got to react if he spots a problem?" And "How long has a manager got to react if a quality problem arises?" The reaction time on any problem by Supervisor will be quicker than the plant manager who has to wait for a report to analyze the situation. The Supervisor / Operators need to have a process for correcting problems as and when they arise. It is 'how' a person does it and the results obtained which matters. Standardized work focuses on 5w and 1 h. 5w (who, what, when, where, and why) – who operates the process, what does final product look and quality checks, when will it be ready, where to complete the process, why this step essential? 1 h (how) – "how" is the process to follow the time and resource. Overall the process should be smooth. Standardized work is best practices known and which are put in place by documenting the process. Standardized work is to ensure optimization of productivity, safety and quality. The goal of standardization is to ensure all 3 i.e. productivity, safety and quality are met in highest standard. Standardized work can be defined as sequence of job functions organized efficiently and followed by an operator repeatedly. The process of standardized work's ultimate aim is to achieve kaizen. If there is no change or progress in standardized work, then the plant is in regression. As Taiichi Ohno rightly says – "People don't go to Toyota to 'work', they go there to think". • 7. Industrial Safety Differences in Unmanned Aerial Systems Industrial Safety Differences in Unmanned Aerial Systems Although they tend to be smaller than manned aircraft including most small general aviation types, UAVs are indeed aircraft and all of the industrial safety measures that apply in other forms of aviation also apply here. At this point it is appropriate to define a few terms; Remotely Piloted Vehicle/Aircraft (RPV/Aircraft) refers to an aircraft or vehicle piloted from the ground. Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) may be piloted from the ground or autonomously controlled through a software program. Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) refers to the combination of unmanned vehicle and all control, sensor, payload and maintenance elements necessary for mission accomplishment. Currently the majority of the UAVs operated by the United States are military assets, and as such are subject to policies, requirements and regulations of the military. These safety requirements will be briefly discussed. As unmanned systems are integrated into national airspace they will be operated in increasing numbers by civil operators, for this reason we will also look at civil safety requirements. UAS will also present some unique situations which have up to this point not been experienced; this will require new areas to be incorporated into the aviation industrial safety arena to ensure our current level of safety is not degraded through their inclusion. This paper will investigate aviation industrial safety as it applies specifically to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. The Occupational Health And Safety Standards As safety practitioners, we need to understand that procedures can be the nemesis of any occupational health and safety (OHS) management system. Getting it wrong can be the difference between success and failure in safety compliance. Sometimes procedures are created too rigid and bureaucratic, and other times they're non–specific and ineffectual. The point is no one wants to be under the burden of unnecessary or unusable procedures. What is needed is the right balance of simple instructions that are easy to read and comprehend. Developing your Safety Procedures Procedures should communicate to employees what they need to know to do their job safely. Here are 5 simple steps to follow: 1. By using a series of symbols and arrows to indicate flow and action you can outline a process and make it easy to follow. Tip: Don't complicate your chart with too many symbols or too much text. It should flow naturally from start to finish and be structured in a logical way. Photographs or Diagrams – Are commonly used especially where there is difficulty in communicating due to illiteracy or use of multiple languages. The main goal of visualisation is to make it possible to absorb large amounts of data quickly. Tip: The saying "A picture is worth a thousand words" refers to the notion that a complex idea can be conveyed with just a single still image. However just make sure you check that your image or diagram is saying the right words to employees. Step 4: Writing Style. Remember when you write you need to consider the end–user, the person who has to read and understand your procedure. To ensure success adopt the following simple rules of writing; Use plain everyday English words or local language. The use of uncommon, long or complex words or sentences should be avoided where possible. Keep to short paragraphs and avoid using too many words. Just be specific enough to communicate clearly. • 9. Evaluation Of A Safety Management System Essay AVN 1106 Major Assignment Lincoln Wilkins U1086146 Date of Submission – 16/09/2016 Abstract: With the expectation from CASA for newly established flight operations to design and implement a Safety Management System (SMS) the task has been set to do so for an airline with 12 regional aircraft and 200 employees. The aim of an SMS is to monitor and manage the overall safety operations that occur within an airline. The use of an SMS has proven extremely successful as it solidifies the communication between operators and management. An SMS consists of four (4) main components: Safety assurance; Safety risk management; safety promotion; and safety policy. Each of these components plays a major role in ensuring the safe operation of an airline. Introduction: With the aviation industry exponentially expanding it is essential to ensure that those safety standards which are in place are working effectively. It is primarily the responsibility of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to ensure that his or her airline is not only profitable but is also safe. The balance between production and protection is a fine line and as such there need to be systems in place to ensure production is not outweighing protection. Airlines in the developed world endeavour to not only meet, but to exceed the expectations of the standards set by regulatory bodies within the aviation industry. This can be done through the implementation of an SMS as well as by revising and enhancing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In NASCAR they are always looking at safety and standards that are always changing. NASCAR stands for the National Association for Stock Car Racing. NASCAR has been a big part of my life since I was a child. When I was young not only did I watch the races on TV with my family, I would be at the track every week with my racing family, watching at a NASCAR sanctioned track. Racing had become a drastic part of my life at an early age because my mother had passed away. My father wanted to bring the family together at least once a week and do something together. What can NASCAR do to create a safer environment for the drivers in the car you may ask. The responsibility of safety is not only in the hands of the driver or the track they all have to work together to create a safer environment for racing. NASCAR sanctions tracks throughout the United States. At the beginning of every year they send out their rule book to the tracks and some rules such as seat belts. neck restraints. and rules on getting out of your car on the track are required. On the other hand the other rules are just guidelines. The tracks can pick or choose which rules that they want to follow or they can change the rules slightly. It is up to the track officials to choose the safest rules to follow to have a safe and controlled racing experience (DeRidder). Not only are varying rules an issue in keeping the drivers safe. At NASCAR's level the cars are inspected on a weekly basis to make sure that everything is up to NASCAR's standards and rules. At the smaller tracks that are sanctioned by NASCAR they don't have the manpower to check every car every week to make sure that the driver or crew didn't change anything or just not have the right equipment. Also, at the NASCAR level they have a new car almost every week unlike at the smaller tracks where racing crews don't have the money to have new cars every week. This type of growth is important as it helps the child grow and provides a purpose for the child. Another benefit is that this toy will encourage solitary and active play, types of social patterns and play, which is vital for child's development. This toy supports skill development through maturation as children will learn how to play with this toy as they mature cognitively. According to Piaget's idea of schemas which are created by assimilation and accommodation, the schema for the child in the preoperational stage will be that they will think that two different shapes of the same colour would both fit into the same cut–out hole in the box, when in fact, they will not. The child then goes through assimilation, where they will adjust their existing schema and understand that an object can be classified by more than one feature. The state of the schema is then changed from disequilibrium to equilibrium. Therefore, this toy is developmentally appropriate to children in the preoperational stage as it will encourage the child to overcome an issue they face in their age period. What went wrong with Mattel's recall strategy? The strategy used by Mattel in the toy recall was focused on passing the blame to China's work practices and materials used. Mattel prematurely placed disproportionate blame on Chinese manufacturers and appeared defensive and somewhat fearful. In addition, the toy manufacture delayed reporting to the CPSC by a month and a half after they found out that the toys contained lead paint, even though the CPSC guidelines state that a re–call should be issued in 24 hours. 2. Given the circumstances Mattel did what it had to do from the standpoint of communication to reduce the reputational damage and keep the stock price afloat. Regaining consumer confidence and controlling the dissemination of product safety information requires strong corporate communicators who can deliberately balance supplier, customer, governmental, media, and investor relationships. 4. What should Mattel do know and in the future? First and foremost Mattel should improve two–way, interpersonal communication with two key customers: parents and the retailers. Corporate communication campaigns should increase interaction with consumers online via message boards and social media. Retailers have the most face–to–face contact with consumers. Mattel should equip them to answer consumer questions comprehensively and accurately. In the future Mattel should aim to anticipate future crises by scanning domestic and international consumer watch groups, industry websites and work even closer with CPSC. The understanding of domestic and international markets is crucial in being ready to prevent any safety related issues that are on the horizon. Missions to Mercury must be conducted with infallible safety standards to prevent incidents such as what has happened in the past. These safety standards must consider all possible circumstances in which measures must be taken. When doing missions on Mercury safety should be the number one priority. Before creating safety standards, it is important to first acknowledge issues and situations that has arisen in the past. Awhile back, a team of scientist were sent to complete a mission on Mercury. Accompanied with them was a robot that went by the name of Speedy. Speedy was a multifunctional robot built to assist the scientist with whatever they needed. Speedy was especially useful against Mercuries harsh conditions. He was able to maneuver the surface where humans could not. Before arriving on Mercury, the team knew they would need selenium in order to repair their photo–cell banks. These banks are important in keeping the base on Mercury from burning up. Speedy was capable of retrieving this selenium, but was the only one capable of doing so. This is because he was the only robot sent with the team. The safety flaw in only having one robot to complete a life or death task is enormous. Standards at the time did not take into account flaws in technology. The hazardous communications section ensures also the transmission of hazardous materials and chemicals appropriately. The development of hazardous communication is implemented especially in written communication program in order for the employees to apply it in the working environment. This is essential because it serve as the protective measures of the employees in the work place. The OSHA Training programs provides training programs which could help the employees regarding the use of chemicals and safety standards. The section 1910.1200 (b) (1) states that the manufacturers of chemicals and hazardous materials should be classified and labeled the chemical materials in order to create a protective measure to the employees. The import chemical and producers should ensure that the information about the materials are held before it reached the workplace. • 38. Environmental Sanctions And Safety Standards Introduction Coal is king. The coal industry controls the economy of states, and states rely on it for electricity. However, many families involved in the industry of coal are experiencing profound economic difficulty. This must be resolved to improve the economic disparity in West Virginia, a state known for a large coal mining industry. Many mining families experience this economic difficulty, particularly due to health risks and job situations. Much research has been done into the effects of a large coal industry. "In just the past twenty years, air pollution from coal plants have shortened the lives of more than half a million Americans." (Jeff Goodell, 2006). Mining kills; and it even affects those uninvolved in the production of it. There are a vast amount of environmental sanctions and safety standards in mines. These are laws and regulations meant to protect the population, yet most do not follow them correctly. Companies must pay for all of this, however paying for regulations cuts into profit margins. These companies manage to still make profit by shutting down deficit mines, but mainly make up costs by laying off employees. This process results in a never–ending cycle of downtrodden individuals trying to make ends meet. Part B Integrated Summary- Surgical Safety PART B INTEGRATED SUMMARY– SURGICAL SAFETY The World Health Organisation (WHO) implemented the surgical safety checklist, to minimise the discrepancies that occur as a result of improper identification of the patient (appendix O post 3). Improper identification leads to wrong procedure, hence complication and possibly death (Position Statement Surgical Safety 2015). The WHO checklist helps to improve surgical safety through confirming safety practices are upheld and developing better communication within the multidisciplinary team (Position Statement Surgical Safety 2015), thus providing optimum patient care (ACORN Competency standard 5). Surgery related complication and mortality was reduce by 33%, through a study of eight hospitals from 2007 to 2008 (Position Statement Surgical Safety 2015). Therefore proving that compliance with safety measure were increased as a result of endorsing the SSC, and obliges to competency standard 3.3. Through briefing and debriefing, standard of care is improved, as the whole multidisciplinary team is made aware of the procedure, and allows for optimal performance, which decrease surgery time, thus improve surgical safety (ACORN Competency Standard 9).
