1. How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?
2. SYNERGY This is a strategy of making connections between related areas. In this case it’s our main product the video plus the CD covers and advert. You can see from the above examples that we kept the artist in the same attire to keep that correlation between the CD covers, advert and the video it’s self. This is useful in a way that when our audience watches the video they’ll easily recognise the artist. This may lead them to purchase the album.
3. CONTINUITY COLOUR Colour continuity was important as it was the artists favourite colour so designing the other products with the same theme colour was a connection between the artist and his funs as they get accustomed to the colour both parties will be able to relate from it. LOCATION In terms of location we shot our video on different street locations to symbolise the street culture. I continued with this in my designs for the CD covers. This helped to highlight the music genre for our artist in case you haven’t listened to the song or seen the video yet.
4. SYMBOLISM This is a complex language where significant symbols are used to convey meaning in various contexts. In our music video the symbolism was in the lyrics of the song. This conveyed the message to the audience.
5. PRODUCT PLACEMENT We put product placement in our video, advert and CD cover. The jumper that our artist was wearing had calligraphy of a cows head with words DenaroMucca.( cash cow) This was a clothing label owned by our artist so we used it to promote his clothing line. Surprisingly he had calls asking him where he got the jumper so he managed to get a few orders in. This showed the success of our product placement.
