The Magazine Ladies Repository Magazine
The magazine Ladies Repository: A Monthly Periodical Devoted to Literature, Arts, and Religion is a magazine that was published in 1800 and was
targeted towards young women. The magazine was a way to help teach and encourage women of the time on how to properly fit in and behave
according to the rules that society had placed on them. It taught them how to be considered an ideal, cultured woman with high morals and spiritual
standards. Although many readers today would argue that the teachings and ideas taught by this magazine are extremely outdated and outrageously
sexist, one must realize that this was society's standard for women during the 1800's.
The Ladies Repository magazine is a monthly issued magazine that is dedicated to teaching its readers, mostly young Christian women, about literature,
arts and religion. It is issued by the Methodist church in Cincinnati and written mostly by ministers. Each issue of the magazine was published from the
year 1841 to 1876.
The articles in the December 1841 issue of the magazine contains a series of well written essays about life lessons for women, moral character, religion,
ancient fortifications, deity and nature, various exerts of poetry, various examples of literature from different countries in their native language,
phrenology, the reformed inebriate, motherhood, the training of girls, history, science, and temperance. These articles are used to help enhance a
young woman's mind to help them have a better relationship with

The DSM-5 Diagnosis Of Dyslexia
The first scenario deals with a seven–year–old child who has completed an IQ test which regarded her as having an IQ score of 67. This little girl is
said to encounter genuine troubles her school work especially in examining and calculating. She is depicted as be insufficient in her social progression
and encounters trouble with doing things that different children her age does, for instance, dressing herself. This young girl because of a score of 67
on the IQ test unfortunately has the DSM–5 diagnosis of dyslexia. Dyslexia is a general term for disorders that involve difficulty in learning to read or
interpret words, letters, and other symbols, but that do not affect general intelligence. This young girl as stated in the first scenario she is having a hard

Dyslexia isn't the only DSM–5 diagnosis that I recognized, dyscalculia, which is severe difficulty in making arithmetical calculations, which she
experienced. The seven–year–old girl also had visual processing issues which indeed refers to a hindered ability to make sense of information taken in
through the eyes. She showed this by not being able to do the daily living things such as dressing and grooming without assistance. Attention deficit
hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is another disorder I recognized in the first scenario. She portrays this disorder by being immature in her social

In The Year 2017 Morals Have Changed All Around The World
In the year 2017 morals have changed all around the world and young people are growing up quicker than they have ever before. As children grow
up parents try to build their foundation with stable and decent examples. Children love watching movies and are quick to learn and pick up on the
characters actions. Disney is known to be kid friendly so a lot of parents let their kids watch these movies without realizing that they contain messages
for children that are inadequate for them. Specifically, "The Little Mermaid" sends messages to children that could frame their beliefs on how maturing
works in a negative manner. Throughout this lesson we have read three versions of "The Little Mermaid" and only one seems to be acceptable for young
girls ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She then travels to the surface of the water where she first sees Eric and instantly falls in love. Ariel creates this separation between her dad by going
behind his back. This message is for the adults because with an oppressive relationship children are likely to rebel. Since mostly young girls watch
"The Little Mermaid" this message comes off as they should go behind their parents back to get something that they want.
The Disney story lacks feminism and the maturity level needed for young girls in 2017. When King Triton finds out about Ariel's unforgivable
actions Ariel realizes that she must choose between these two men. In the article "Is Disney's 'The Little Mermaid' a Feminist Film or Not" it talks
about how some people can see how "The little Mermaid" lacks feminism because Ariel chooses to change herself for a man. Then the immature
image that Disney shows young girls is that Ariel "rejects her father's culture to embrace Eric's culture" (Trites 2). The maturity level of how to handle
situations between the two stories is evident. Disney's underlying message is that "Children, especially girls, can gain an identity independent from
their parents by becoming dependent on someone else", while in Andersen's story the mermaid 's quest is for a soul and she searches for answers in a
less malicious way.
In the stages of young girls lives they are building their foundation of

Hills Like White Elephants By Ernest Hemingway
Megan Skolmen 13 February Hills like White Elephants Ernest Hemingway First Published August 1927 I read a short story called Hills like White
Elephants, by Ernest Hemmingway. This story presents to the readers a conversation between a young man and women who are located at a station,
drinking beer, arguing whilst waiting for a train to take them to Madrin – the town in which we learn the girl is said to be having an operation. Overall,
this text was one which I quite enjoyed. Although upon reading it the first time, the plot and motifs were somewhat lost on me, further speculation
determined me taking a great liking to the story. Because Hemmingway never really mentions what exactly he is addressing, it a conception that can
be overlooked. After a few reads I came to knowing that the young girl in the story is headed to Madrin to have an abortion she is not entirely
convinced she wants. Through the narrative of the story I felt a lot of conflicting emotions, I felt an immense pity for the girl and great anger for the
young man. It was deciphered that the man, although only through suggestion, really wants the girl to have the abortion, this being through the way he
continually reiterates that it is "perfectly simple". We also see the girl, who seems very conflicted with this decision. It is evident that the young couple
are discussing an abortion, this being absolutely illegal, immoral and dangerous at the time, therefore discussing it out loud would be outstandingly

Summary Of Margaret Mead's Coming Of Age In Samoa
In Coming of Age in Samoa, by Margaret Mead, she exemplifies and puts emphasis on the idea of socialization through the view of the Samoan girl,
and we also see what her sexuality is as she becomes an adult and has to deal with marriage. Before reading the book I never knew that different
cultures like the Samoan culture viewed everything in their daily lives different than how we view it in ours. After learning about the Samoan culture
in the book, it gave me a new perspective and how to view the world around me because the book discussed key concepts I didn't expect to be
interesting.
The Samoan culture and how socialization turns into sexuality for young girls is very different compared to our culture. In the Samoan culture
sexuality in Samoan girls is seen differently than we see it in our culture today. Margaret Mead elaborates on this idea because of how she views
the sexuality of a Samoan girl when she mentions "Virginity is a legal requirement for her" (Mead 69). When Mead discusses this, it is interesting
how in that culture virginity is a requirement and that is something we don't see as a requirement in our society today. This demonstrates how the
sexuality of a Samoan girl is not the same as we see it. The way girls are seen because of their sexuality is incomparable to girls in our society today
and that's important to observe since Samoan culture is by far very different to what we view as part of culture today. In Samoan culture, socialization
is an

In the article education in developing countries, it discussed education issues and how it has an impact on gender and developing countries. It talks
about how 97 million children were not enrolled in school and half of the 97 were girls. We talked a little about years of school in countries and how
boys tend to go to school longer than girls. This article elaborates more on the factors behind it such as lack of teachers, cost, access, and more. Other
reading have also mention education in developing countries as well as the differences between boys and girls length of education. In Where Am I

Lena Haloway Quotes
Lena Haloway is a 17–year–old girl who was lied to her entire life; now she's going to get revenge. Pandemonium, by Lauren Oliver, is a fiction
book. It's a relatable story about a young girl trying to get through her life. Pandemonium is a good book, but it is considered a "young–adult"(Keller
3) book. It doesn't stretch your mind as much as some teachers would like a summer book to do. Even though this is a book for younger people, it
is still a terrific choice for a summer read. "Hatred is a high tower," (Oliver 166). This quote from Pandemonium describes how this novel is
relatable. Everyone feels some type of hatred towards something in their lives. This book being relatable helps people today; they may not be going
through the exact same thing as Lena Haloway, mainly because this was a futuristic book, and there is no such thing as the "Wilds"(Oliver 9) or a
"resistance" (Oliver 196), but they can see how she handled the hate. Thus, this book is relatable to many young girls because it is an adolescent book....

The Hitler Youth Group Movement: The Hitler Youth Movement
From the 1920s to 40's, a hatred of Jews was developed in millions of young German people as more and more youths were won over to Nazism. This
happened through Hitler Youth, an organization lead by Adolf Hitler. Hitler greatly valued the youths of Germany, therefore making organizations for
both boys and girls.
The Hitler Youth group movement played an important role in history. According to The History Learning Site, "The Hitler Youth movement was an
extension of Hitler's belief that the future of Nazi Germany was its children." It was an organization for the youths of the Nazi Party that prepared boys
for military service and girls for motherhood. The boys learned marching, bayonet drills, grenade throwing, trench digging, map reading, gas defence,
use of dugouts, how to get under barbed wire, and pistol shooting. (History Learning Site) The girls trained for their roles in society: homemaker, wife,
and mother. Hitler Youth was a voluntary group until it became mandatory in 1939. (United States Holocaust Memorial Museum)
Hitler greatly valued the youth of Germany. He knew that the youth were the future of Germany, so he prepared them for the future and taught them to
be "race– concious, obedient, self–sacrificing Germans who would be willing to die for FГјhrer and Fatherland." (United States Holocaust Memorial

The Plight Of Young Males
As discussed in a recent essay by Saul Kaplan "The Plight of Young Males", there is a serious academic gender achievement gap in the United States
and as I will discuss, around the world. Young women are doing significantly better than young men, and the results are shocking. In the latest census,
males make up 51 percent of the total U.S. population between the ages of 18–24. Yet only 40 percent of today's college students are men. Since 1982,
more American women than men have received bachelor's degrees. In the last ten years, two million more women graduated from college than men. As
Kaplan reveals, the average eleventh–grade boy writes at the level of the average eighth–grade girl. He also states that women dominate high school
honor rolls and now make up more than 70 percent of class valedictorians. Kaplan says, "I am happy to see women succeeding. But can we really
afford for our country's young men to fall so far behind," (733)?
Historically boys were top of the class. Today that is no longer the case. A recent article in The Economist discusses a 2009 study by the OECD
(Organization for Economic Co–operation and Development) that examined how 15–year–old boys and girls performed in reading, mathematics and
science. They found that girls are performing better than their male classmates. This gender gap is worldwide. Girls score higher than boys on tests
measuring reading ability in every country in the world (Loveless).
Why? According to the study

Nancy Drew : A Positive Feminist Role Model
Young girls have been reading Nancy Drew for eighty–seven years, she is a staple in most households with elementary age girls. For me, Nancy
represented everything I wanted to be at 18, she was intelligent, fearless, beautiful, and she had a car. I never compared myself to Nancy, she was
what I aspired to be and what I expected to be when I grew up. She was one of the first feminist role models I had as a child and I believe she was
pivotal to my foundation as an independent, outspoken woman. I see Nancy herself as a positive feminist role model, however, the series itself
does not portray women in a positive light, all the other female characters in the series besides Nancy are problematic. One aspect about Nancy
that I admired as a child was her independence, although she was only 18 see had an extraordinary amount of freedom in my eyes. The fact that
Nancy had her own vehicle was instrumental for her ability to do what she wanted. "Why don't we drive out there now in my car?" (The Ghost of
Blackwood Hall, 7) Nancy was able to decide on the spot to leave and go seek out clues. As a child, you do not have the opportunity and authority to go
anywhere you want; those decisions lie with your parents. Nancy does not need to rely on someone else to drive her around nor does she require
anyone's permission to leave, she decides for herself. "I'll pick up my friends and drive out now to see if the crossed twigs are still there" (41). Even
now, getting a car is a huge step

Summary: The Influence Of Barbie On Gender Identity
In the article, " Influence of Barbie on Gender Identity" Barbie is considered to have a negative impact on households in America because of the
way Barbie looks, discriminated as from other minorities, and the roles she has as a woman which are stereotypes. Many feel as though Barbie
gives young girls insecurities at a young age and that when young girls interact with a Barbie they are supposed to act and think in a mature way.
One person wrote in this article that Barbie has never influenced her gender identity when she was growing up. She never thought about Barbie as a
bad influence. As she stated, " All I was worried about was whether or not Barbie had all her accessories and looked pretty once I clothed her" (qtd. in

It is making little girls see that when they get more mature or older it is okay to dress like Barbie in those revealing clothes to get attention
especially from boys. I would love for young girls to know that it is many ways for them to look if they want to be successful and beautiful and not
just by looking at the image of Barbie. Another topic that was pointed out in the article was that there is a very small percentage of young girls
that actually look like Barbie and why is that? This to me is a horrible thing because some children truly do look up to Barbie from the way she
looks and dresses and feel they can be socially accepted by following the protocol of Barbie. Even though Barbie seems to have all these negative
effects, women still buy Barbie dolls for their daughters whether it's for a birthday gift or

Middle Eastern Marriage
In the readings and films marriage has been a common topic, however, the most concerning aspect of Middle Eastern marriage is the legal age. The
young age that Middle Eastern girls marry has come up in multiple movies and readings. The legal age for girls to marry is nine in the Middle East,
which is in sharp contrast to the age of eighteen in the United States. The Middle East should not allow girls to wed so young.
The young age at which some girls are married is alluded to in some Middle Eastern stories. In "A Wife for My Son" by Ali Ghalem the main
character exclaims that she doesn't want to get married because she wants to keep going to school. In "The Assassination of Light at the River's Flow"
by Khayriyah Ibrahim as–Saqqaf the narrator ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At that age children want to play and go to school they are not mature enough to do things such as cook, work, and pay bills. In the Middle East a
man's wife is considered his property so that means it is unlikely that anyone will enforce the ban against sexual relations with girls so young. Also the
fact that women are considered the property of their husbands puts them into a vulnerable situation where they have to rely on their husbands for
everything. Furthermore, an older woman would be better equipped mentally to make the choice weather or not to get married. An adult would also
have a much easier time running away from an undesired marriage. Marriage is a huge commitment that should only be entered into voluntarily, which
is something that a child cannot do. Therefore, Middle Eastern countries should not allow girls to get married at such a young age.
In conclusion, nine is too low of an age for marriage. Nine–year–old girls are not mature enough for the responsibilities of marriage nor adulthood. At
that age they are not able to make the decision to marry, which means that the girls are given away like objects by their families. It is not fair to force
young girls into marriage because they don't get any time at all to live their lives the way they want

Quinceanera Tradition Essay
In many hispanic cultures, it is customary to have a big celebration for a young girls fifteenth birthday. This tradition is known as a Quinceanera,

to read, or a pencil to write with. There are hundreds and thousands, if not millions of kids around the world that want an education more than
anything, but there are also people who take it for granted which makes you appreciate how much you really have. In more ways than one, logos is

were flogged, beaten severely with sticks, and even killed, just trying to receive and education. These are all first hand experiences that Malala has
gone through, as well as millions of other girls.
Throughout the reading, the authors tone stays the same, very serious and demanding. More than anything Malala wants education to be available to
everyone, not just people in countries who don't face crisis everyday. "Education is one of the blessings of life – and one of its necessities." Everything
about this is serious, it is letting the audience know that you need education. "When my world suddenly changed, my priorities changed too."

Truman Capote was an author who enjoyed adding strange or weird elements into ordinary scenarios. In Miriam, a young girl came into Mrs. Miller's

Truman Capote decided to write this story to relate to his own personal life and the struggles he encountered along the way. While reading, one is able

they both shared the name Miriam, Mrs. Miller was taken by the girl's appearance. Later in the story we see that this was not yet just an encounter,
but something much more. While Mrs. Miller is at home she is visited by the girl once again, this time the girl was demanding and demanded Mrs.
Miller give her the brooch her husband had given her before his passing. Finally this girl leaves and days pass without seeing her so Mrs. Miller
decides to go out, while out a man is following her until she gets away. The man is later is foreshadowed as the man who sheltered Miriam the

Importance Of Boys Underachievement In Reading And Writing
Although there is evidence that proves boys' underachievement in reading and writing in contrast to girls', it is important to first note that there are
sources that identify boys being less committed to school than girls, but why is this? A significant aspect is boys' attitude to school and examinations.
Weis (1990) effectively argues that the majority of boys are not concerned with excelling inschool, but only with passing. This evidence strongly
suggests that boys' attitude to education is significantly lower than girls due to only requiring to pass exams instead of exceeding their limitations and
reaching their full potential. A positive attitude to education is essential to ensure all pupils obtain higher than satisfactory academic achievements,
resulting in a high–quality learning experience, although there are also numerous factors that contribute to boys' underachievement in reading and
writing and the ways it can be tackled.
Boys' underachievement in reading and writing can be traced to activities within their household. For example, it is not common that young boys
witness their father reading novels instead of newspapers, yet there is evidence to suggest that young boys are strongly influenced by this. Pickering
(1997, p. 49) supports this by expertly stating that, "it seems hard to deny that children are affected to some extent in their learning by the home." As a
result, it can be argued that mothers are to blame as they are the ones reading stories to their

What Is The Theme Of Girl By Jamaica Kincaid Essay
Olivia Blanda
English 101
Professor Grace Hughes
24 October 2017
A "Girl" and her Mother There are several responsibilities a girl should learn about before going off on her own and it is usually the mother's job to
teach their daughter these life lessons. In the prose poem "Girl," by Jamaica Kincaid, a mother writes out a "guide" her daughter must follow in order
to succeed in her adult years. This poem that the mother has written for her daughter is better seen as a "guide" to adulthood due to her use of an
extremely long run–on sentence and choice of diction. The run–on sentence consists of a list of commands like "this is how you sweep a corner; this is
how you sweep a whole house; this is how you sweep a yard" (22–24). Not only does the run–on sentence depict that this is a guide, but so does the
constant repetition of "this is how" and "don't ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These three dishes are not just ordinary dishes you eat on a regular day, these dishes are dishes you eat on tradition. The mother passing down these
traditions to her daughter shows that she loves her and wants her to follow these traditions too. The mother also tells her daughter, "this is how you
grow okra–far from the house, because okra tree harbors red ants" (20). Not only is she passing on the tradition of how to grow "okra," but she is
also giving her daughter advice on how to stay away from red ants because she wants her daughter to be safe. When the mother says things like, "is it
true that you sing benna in Sunday school?...don't sing benna in Sunday school," (8–11) she is only trying to pass down culture. Because the mother
tells her daughter not to sing benna in Sunday school, it is perceived that it is of the mother's culture to not sing benna in Sunday school, so she does
not want her daughter to fall out of

Honor English 10 Essay
I am interested in taking Honors English 10 because, I thoroughly enjoy reading in my free time and English is my favorite subject. I have a strong
passion for writing and I would like to continue my writing at a more rigorous level. Reading and writing are both very significant to me and I
believe Honors English 10 will help me explore both of these interests more in depth. I find it important to be challenged and I would very much
enjoy being a part of the Honors English program. Knowing that the Honors program entails a heavier and harder workload, I would manage this by
completing assignments when assigned, rather than right before the due date. To ensure a lack of procrastination, I would make sure to always record

Bluest Eye Thesis
Toni Morrison's book The Bluest Eye tells the story of Pecola Breedlove, an eleven–year–old black girl who desperately wants blue eyes because she
thinks they'll make her beautiful. Because of her father, she becomes the epicenter of town gossip and a scapegoat that the people use to make
themselves feel superior. Pecola feels hated and ugly in her community because she's black and seems convinced that if she had blue eyes, all her
problems would go away. Morrison's novel is a timeless work of art that explores and develops many themes such as the idea that being white is
equivalent to being beautiful. Like many incredible pieces of literature, the novel continues to inspire people. After reading the novel, I realized that in
a way, I'm Pecola: I'm a young black girl who for the longest time thought that I could... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the novel, Claudia Macleer, the narrator and childhood friend of Pecola is given white baby dolls, which she dismembers. As Claudia reflects
on the fact that she occasionally feels the impulse to do the same to little white girls, she asks: "what made people look at them and say,
'awwwww,' but not for me" (22)? While the circumstances in which she has this revelation are a bit extreme, it shows that in her society, there is an
implicit message that being white is equal to being beautiful and that if you're a young white girl, you're beautiful but, if you're a young black girl,
you're a monster. At the age of eleven, Pecola detests everything about herself. She thinks that because she's black she's ugly and doesn't deserve to be
loved. She's convinced that if she had blue eyes, all her problems would be resolved and she would

Bird Sings
In "I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings", a young African American woman tells of her experience in dealing with issues all females face at a point in
their lives, such as self–esteem issues, gender oppression, and rebellion. She faces the struggle of who she wants to be versus living in the reality of
whom she actually is. In various points of the reading, she often finds herself drifting off into her thoughts with the wishes of being someone she
isn't, with references to "movie stars", and "one of those sweet little girls who were everybody's dream of what was right with the world ". When in

Cinderella Ate My Daughter By Peggy Orenstein
Cinderella Ate My Daughter by Peggy Orenstein
A Review of the Literature Growing up in today's society can be traumatizing for any child. When it comes to growing up as a young girl, however,
it can be downright devastating, but not only for the child but the parent as well. There are so many decisions to be made when choosing how to raise
your child, assuring that you have instilled proper values to develop a healthy sense of self–worth and confidence. Upon reading the book "Cinderella
Ate My Daughter: Dispatches from the Frontlines of the New Girlie–Girl Culture", by Peggy Orenstein, I was extremely captivated to absorb the
opinions that she had on raising a girl and all of the feminine influences that naturally surround her. The author herself had stated right from the first
page how she initially wished for the child in her womb was a boy. My preliminary notion that joined this book to the course material was assumed
before I even began reading, as several obvious details it became apparent that the book for sure had to be about gender roles and gender identity. The
whole topic of princesses in the title, as well as the way the books cover flaunted pink and shimmery glitter it was just a telltale sign to have gender
specific ties. That impression continued as I began reading the very first chapter boldly titled "Why I Hoped for a Boy". There were such forthright
examples making it overly apparent that she, the author, would be discussing the sexes, meaning girls vs.

Archetypes In The Book Thief
the Odd One Out In 1939
Lots of children of Communists and Jews are given up during World War II, mainly because it would be safer to live away from Germany and other
countries that have been invaded. In the novel, The Book Thief, Liesel and Werner the children of communist parents are left by their own mother and
taken in by the Hubermann family. On the way to Munich, Germany, Liesel's brother dies. As a result, the scared 8 year old is left with two strangers, a
compassionate foster father and a repetitively swearing foster mother that shows her love alternatively. Markus Zusak uses symbolism and the

someone care for her. Soon after, this becomes a routine but one night is different Liesel's nightmare is the same, she relieves the night of her
brother's death. The girl who woke up in the middle of the night wet her bed, her papa holds her until he too, notices the smell coming from under

asked if Liesel who had recently wet her bed, wants to read the book. She replies yes, after that night Liesel learns how to read. This event
symbolizes Hans letting Liesel grieve over her brother, instead of sitting into the empty bed that is originally for Werner, he sits in a chair and
watches over her. Since the young girl and her foster father are extremely close, they both teach each other ways of rebelling. Hans is teaching

when she finds a book on the street. The consistent desire to read leads her to rebel in ways that will eventually destroy her family. Meanwhile, Liesel
encourages Hans to remember his past and be truthful about the promises he made in the moments of crisis. Such as, promising a widow a shelter for

The Divide Of The Genders
The Divide of the Genders In the past, there have been many debates about the gender gap happening throughout school systems. Even still to this
day, there are many arguments about this topic. Back then, all there was was problems about education. Guys were more privileged than the girls
were. For the past decades, this issue has stuck around. Many argue that boys are still more privileged than girls are. But many facts these days say
otherwise. There are many people still that believe that schools are biased towards girls. Many think, "That girls are treated as the second sex in school
and consequently suffer, that boys are accorded privileges and consequently benefit," so these are usually the things many people seem to presume.
So these types of ideas have the schools being biased towards girls, which had now, "... given rise to an array of laws and policies intended to curtail
the advantages boys have and to redress the harm done to girls" (Sommers). But these statements that are being made are not true. There are many facts
that girls hardly suffer. There are now many, "claims that men are now the second sex and that boys––not girls––are the ones who are in serious
trouble" (Kimmel). Yet, in thought, both sides of this debate are very true. That there is a crisis happening among boys. However, they are also both
wrong. Yes, there are many logical facts proving that boys are now suffering more than the girls are. "Let 's begin with the evidence of crisis. The

What Are The Characteristics Of A Hero InThe Brothers...
The lesson that I choose to rewrite is lesson two when we discussed The Brothers Grimm and the German Fairy Tale. In question two you asked
what are the characteristics of a hero in these stories and I feel like I didn't actually use the reading to support how I felt when answering the
question. I think that adventurous, strong and brave are characteristics of a hero in these stories. In each story there is a fight for what an
individual wants or needs and nothing stops them. "Rapunzel" wants her prince and the enchantress sends her to a dessert with her twins alone and
while blind the prince finds his family and they live happily ever after. In "Rumpelstilzchen" the young girl said she would promise this little man
her first born if she became queen and when the time came she had three day to think of his name and with many days help from messenger she got
his name and was able to keep her first born. These two stories alone show the adventure, bravery and strength of never giving up and getting what
they want no matter what. These are characteristics in each story just told differently. 2. Why is one story's kind of violence inappropriate while
another's violence is accepted almost without notice? Is there ever a place for violence in works of literature for children? Violence is seen in many
different ways when reading literature. You have to keep into consideration the way it happens, who it hurts, and the lessons you learn from it. Children

Why The World Needs Anne Frank
Anne Frank was probably one of the best writers in her era. She is still remembered today due to her lasting legacy in her book, "The Diary of a Young

Holocaust. It is an awe inspiring book the can leave the reader astounded. "The Diary of a Young Girl," is a must read for everyone, especially for
developing teens. This fascinating Diary should be taught in all middle schools because it will help teens view the world from different perspectives.
This is exactly why, "The Diary of a Young Girl," should be taught in Mr. Godinez's 8th grade class.

There is a reason Anne Frank's diary is a widely known and valued piece of literature. That is because of Anne's talent as a writer. If Anne was not

things humans can do to each other. "The Diary of a Young Girl," proves that the old statement, "Man is a wolf to man," is in fact true and for this
very reason, we learn from this diary that we shouldn't be bystanders when horrible things happen right under our noses. Her diary makes us see how
much a human being can suffer under the worst imaginable situations. This is exactly why Mr. Godinez should teach, "The Diary of a Young Girl,"

Girls Rule, Boys Drool: The Effects Of Gender Stereotypes.
Girls Rule, Boys Drool: The Effects of Gender Stereotypes Gender roles have been used as a way of raising children for generations. While they
have not always been the typical "pink is for girls, blue is for boys" stereotypes that we have grown accustomed to, there have always been certain
roles for men and women that deem what is appropriate and what is not. Although the idea of gender roles has existed for centuries, the stereotypes
themselves have evolved, leading many to believe that they are a social construct. "Up until the beginning of the 20th century, pink was actually more
associated with boys, while blue was more associated with girls–illustrating how socially constructed these associations really are" ("Gender and ...

Gender roles put an idea into children's brains about the way society dictates how men and women should or should not act. These stereotypes can be
harmful, as they often lead to sexism and misogyny. While gender roles may deem what is appropriate for each gender, they can also set expectations
of people in society, some of which can be unachievable. This can put a pressure on young children that can follow them through their education and
career. Gender–based stereotypes are also dangerous in the sense that if someone refuses to conform to traditional gender ideals, most of the time,
they are ridiculed and harassed. One of the main disadvantages of gender roles is the unrealistic expectations they can put on children. Gender roles
teach children that they need to act a certain way based on their gender in order to be accepted in society. For example, in "The Color of Children's
Gender Stereotypes", Rachel Karniol explains a study performed that tested young Israeli children's preferences when it comes to coloring books. The
results of the study showed that boys were less likely to use the color pink when coloring, and they tended to avoid the female–stereotyped illustrations
in coloring books while girls used less female–stereotyped colors in the male–stereotyped illustrations (Karniol 119). Gender roles condition children to
think that they are expected to act a certain way. Therefore, if a young boy wanted to color with a pink

Good Girls Vs Bad Girls Essay
A shocking part of history a women had to struggle was during the history of post World War II . Author Ann Fessler interviewed various of women
who went through surrendering their newborn child for adoption. That was the only option or either you were going to be married at a young age.
Parents had high expectations for their daughters to behave and follow the regulation of society.
In chapter 3 "Good girls versus bad girls" explained the definition of good girls are considered to be a virgin and waited sex until marriage. Bad girls
are the ones who are sexually active or are pregnant because they had sex before marriage .In the 1950s and 1960s, when veterans were coming back
from World War 2 young people became sexually active. This trend caused young college and high schoolfemale students go through sexual

active. Back then women were expected to wait until marriage and learn about sex from their spouse.
During that time of era, plenty of young women were curious to experiment. The sad part about the 1950s –1960s there was sex education, but it was
not clear enough about the body parts of a female or a male, certain diseases , or protection besides abstinence . The only way young women learned

The Magazine Ladies Repository Magazine

  • 1. The Magazine Ladies Repository Magazine The magazine Ladies Repository: A Monthly Periodical Devoted to Literature, Arts, and Religion is a magazine that was published in 1800 and was targeted towards young women. The magazine was a way to help teach and encourage women of the time on how to properly fit in and behave according to the rules that society had placed on them. It taught them how to be considered an ideal, cultured woman with high morals and spiritual standards. Although many readers today would argue that the teachings and ideas taught by this magazine are extremely outdated and outrageously sexist, one must realize that this was society's standard for women during the 1800's. The Ladies Repository magazine is a monthly issued magazine that is dedicated to teaching its readers, mostly young Christian women, about literature, arts and religion. It is issued by the Methodist church in Cincinnati and written mostly by ministers. Each issue of the magazine was published from the year 1841 to 1876. The articles in the December 1841 issue of the magazine contains a series of well written essays about life lessons for women, moral character, religion, ancient fortifications, deity and nature, various exerts of poetry, various examples of literature from different countries in their native language, phrenology, the reformed inebriate, motherhood, the training of girls, history, science, and temperance. • 2. The DSM-5 Diagnosis Of Dyslexia The first scenario deals with a seven–year–old child who has completed an IQ test which regarded her as having an IQ score of 67. This little girl is said to encounter genuine troubles her school work especially in examining and calculating. She is depicted as be insufficient in her social progression and encounters trouble with doing things that different children her age does, for instance, dressing herself. This young girl because of a score of 67 on the IQ test unfortunately has the DSM–5 diagnosis of dyslexia. Dyslexia is a general term for disorders that involve difficulty in learning to read or interpret words, letters, and other symbols, but that do not affect general intelligence. This young girl as stated in the first scenario she is having a hard time with reading and arithmetic problems and is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The seven–year–old girl also had visual processing issues which indeed refers to a hindered ability to make sense of information taken in through the eyes. She showed this by not being able to do the daily living things such as dressing and grooming without assistance. Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is another disorder I recognized in the first scenario. She portrays this disorder by being immature in her social ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. In The Year 2017 Morals Have Changed All Around The World In the year 2017 morals have changed all around the world and young people are growing up quicker than they have ever before. As children grow up parents try to build their foundation with stable and decent examples. Children love watching movies and are quick to learn and pick up on the characters actions. Disney is known to be kid friendly so a lot of parents let their kids watch these movies without realizing that they contain messages for children that are inadequate for them. Specifically, "The Little Mermaid" sends messages to children that could frame their beliefs on how maturing works in a negative manner. Throughout this lesson we have read three versions of "The Little Mermaid" and only one seems to be acceptable for young girls ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She then travels to the surface of the water where she first sees Eric and instantly falls in love. Ariel creates this separation between her dad by going behind his back. This message is for the adults because with an oppressive relationship children are likely to rebel. Since mostly young girls watch "The Little Mermaid" this message comes off as they should go behind their parents back to get something that they want. The Disney story lacks feminism and the maturity level needed for young girls in 2017. When King Triton finds out about Ariel's unforgivable actions Ariel realizes that she must choose between these two men. In the article "Is Disney's 'The Little Mermaid' a Feminist Film or Not" it talks about how some people can see how "The little Mermaid" lacks feminism because Ariel chooses to change herself for a man. Then the immature image that Disney shows young girls is that Ariel "rejects her father's culture to embrace Eric's culture" (Trites 2). The maturity level of how to handle situations between the two stories is evident. Disney's underlying message is that "Children, especially girls, can gain an identity independent from their parents by becoming dependent on someone else", while in Andersen's story the mermaid 's quest is for a soul and she searches for answers in a less malicious way. In the stages of young girls lives they are building their foundation of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Essay This assignment was about the earlier reading that we had done this last week talking about the girl that had been treated very wrong and being given out for marriage at a very young age. This is also the same article that talks about the girls going through medical processes which involved them getting their genitals cut and mutilated at a very young age which is very wrong and was talked about in that article very briefly. This article goes into more depth of how the group was able to make all these things happen and how they are able to save these girls now. It talks about how the girl Ester who was at the begging of the last text and how she was a big role in getting laws and regulations past so that girls and young children have more... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The other big problem that is prominent in the text is that the daughter is able to find a way out of not getting married at such a young age and by using all these new laws and rules to her advantage to get a good education which is what her father wanted, but she did it without having to get married at such a young age. These are the main issues that the author of this text think are the most problematic. They believe that there are a lot of ways around the problem and the way that the father is look at it compared to how the daughter is are on opposite sides so the butt heads. The author also talks a little about the solutions that were given in the old reading that we went through and how they though that they had made a few mistakes in there practices. In the old passage they talk about how to help theses girls in this situation get out of these problems by helping build these houses that these girls can retreat to for safety. They also talk about how they are trying to eliminate the amount of young girls that are having to go through these struggles by passing all these laws and rules to get young get children a better education and all saving them from the pain and stress of being sold off for marriage. The author of the newer text talks about how the father is at more blame the he should be because if you look at it from how he does it doesn't make it as bad because he is just trying to give his daughter the best chance to get and education and ... • 5. Hills Like White Elephants By Ernest Hemingway Megan Skolmen 13 February Hills like White Elephants Ernest Hemingway First Published August 1927 I read a short story called Hills like White Elephants, by Ernest Hemmingway. This story presents to the readers a conversation between a young man and women who are located at a station, drinking beer, arguing whilst waiting for a train to take them to Madrin – the town in which we learn the girl is said to be having an operation. Overall, this text was one which I quite enjoyed. Although upon reading it the first time, the plot and motifs were somewhat lost on me, further speculation determined me taking a great liking to the story. Because Hemmingway never really mentions what exactly he is addressing, it a conception that can be overlooked. After a few reads I came to knowing that the young girl in the story is headed to Madrin to have an abortion she is not entirely convinced she wants. Through the narrative of the story I felt a lot of conflicting emotions, I felt an immense pity for the girl and great anger for the young man. It was deciphered that the man, although only through suggestion, really wants the girl to have the abortion, this being through the way he continually reiterates that it is "perfectly simple". We also see the girl, who seems very conflicted with this decision. It is evident that the young couple are discussing an abortion, this being absolutely illegal, immoral and dangerous at the time, therefore discussing it out loud would be outstandingly ... • 6. Summary Of Margaret Mead's Coming Of Age In Samoa In Coming of Age in Samoa, by Margaret Mead, she exemplifies and puts emphasis on the idea of socialization through the view of the Samoan girl, and we also see what her sexuality is as she becomes an adult and has to deal with marriage. Before reading the book I never knew that different cultures like the Samoan culture viewed everything in their daily lives different than how we view it in ours. After learning about the Samoan culture in the book, it gave me a new perspective and how to view the world around me because the book discussed key concepts I didn't expect to be interesting. The Samoan culture and how socialization turns into sexuality for young girls is very different compared to our culture. In the Samoan culture sexuality in Samoan girls is seen differently than we see it in our culture today. Margaret Mead elaborates on this idea because of how she views the sexuality of a Samoan girl when she mentions "Virginity is a legal requirement for her" (Mead 69). When Mead discusses this, it is interesting how in that culture virginity is a requirement and that is something we don't see as a requirement in our society today. This demonstrates how the sexuality of a Samoan girl is not the same as we see it. The way girls are seen because of their sexuality is incomparable to girls in our society today and that's important to observe since Samoan culture is by far very different to what we view as part of culture today. In Samoan culture, socialization is an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It talks about how 97 million children were not enrolled in school and half of the 97 were girls. We talked a little about years of school in countries and how boys tend to go to school longer than girls. This article elaborates more on the factors behind it such as lack of teachers, cost, access, and more. Other reading have also mention education in developing countries as well as the differences between boys and girls length of education. In Where Am I Wearing, Kelsey touched upon the topic about how children didn't go to school because they had to work to help support their families. He also made a comment that parents in the US send their children to school, while parents in our countries send their children to collected bottles. • 8. Lena Haloway Quotes Lena Haloway is a 17–year–old girl who was lied to her entire life; now she's going to get revenge. Pandemonium, by Lauren Oliver, is a fiction book. It's a relatable story about a young girl trying to get through her life. Pandemonium is a good book, but it is considered a "young–adult"(Keller 3) book. It doesn't stretch your mind as much as some teachers would like a summer book to do. Even though this is a book for younger people, it is still a terrific choice for a summer read. "Hatred is a high tower," (Oliver 166). This quote from Pandemonium describes how this novel is relatable. Everyone feels some type of hatred towards something in their lives. This book being relatable helps people today; they may not be going through the exact same thing as Lena Haloway, mainly because this was a futuristic book, and there is no such thing as the "Wilds"(Oliver 9) or a "resistance" (Oliver 196), but they can see how she handled the hate. Thus, this book is relatable to many young girls because it is an adolescent book.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 10. The Hitler Youth Group Movement: The Hitler Youth Movement From the 1920s to 40's, a hatred of Jews was developed in millions of young German people as more and more youths were won over to Nazism. This happened through Hitler Youth, an organization lead by Adolf Hitler. Hitler greatly valued the youths of Germany, therefore making organizations for both boys and girls. The Hitler Youth group movement played an important role in history. According to The History Learning Site, "The Hitler Youth movement was an extension of Hitler's belief that the future of Nazi Germany was its children." It was an organization for the youths of the Nazi Party that prepared boys for military service and girls for motherhood. The boys learned marching, bayonet drills, grenade throwing, trench digging, map reading, gas defence, use of dugouts, how to get under barbed wire, and pistol shooting. (History Learning Site) The girls trained for their roles in society: homemaker, wife, and mother. Hitler Youth was a voluntary group until it became mandatory in 1939. (United States Holocaust Memorial Museum) Hitler greatly valued the youth of Germany. He knew that the youth were the future of Germany, so he prepared them for the future and taught them to be "race– concious, obedient, self–sacrificing Germans who would be willing to die for FГјhrer and Fatherland." • 11. The Plight Of Young Males As discussed in a recent essay by Saul Kaplan "The Plight of Young Males", there is a serious academic gender achievement gap in the United States and as I will discuss, around the world. Young women are doing significantly better than young men, and the results are shocking. In the latest census, males make up 51 percent of the total U.S. population between the ages of 18–24. Yet only 40 percent of today's college students are men. Since 1982, more American women than men have received bachelor's degrees. In the last ten years, two million more women graduated from college than men. As Kaplan reveals, the average eleventh–grade boy writes at the level of the average eighth–grade girl. He also states that women dominate high school honor rolls and now make up more than 70 percent of class valedictorians. Kaplan says, "I am happy to see women succeeding. But can we really afford for our country's young men to fall so far behind," (733)? Historically boys were top of the class. Today that is no longer the case. A recent article in The Economist discusses a 2009 study by the OECD (Organization for Economic Co–operation and Development) that examined how 15–year–old boys and girls performed in reading, mathematics and science. They found that girls are performing better than their male classmates. This gender gap is worldwide. Girls score higher than boys on tests measuring reading ability in every country in the world (Loveless). Why? According to the study ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Nancy Drew : A Positive Feminist Role Model Young girls have been reading Nancy Drew for eighty–seven years, she is a staple in most households with elementary age girls. For me, Nancy represented everything I wanted to be at 18, she was intelligent, fearless, beautiful, and she had a car. I never compared myself to Nancy, she was what I aspired to be and what I expected to be when I grew up. She was one of the first feminist role models I had as a child and I believe she was pivotal to my foundation as an independent, outspoken woman. I see Nancy herself as a positive feminist role model, however, the series itself does not portray women in a positive light, all the other female characters in the series besides Nancy are problematic. One aspect about Nancy that I admired as a child was her independence, although she was only 18 see had an extraordinary amount of freedom in my eyes. The fact that Nancy had her own vehicle was instrumental for her ability to do what she wanted. "Why don't we drive out there now in my car?" (The Ghost of Blackwood Hall, 7) Nancy was able to decide on the spot to leave and go seek out clues. As a child, you do not have the opportunity and authority to go anywhere you want; those decisions lie with your parents. Nancy does not need to rely on someone else to drive her around nor does she require anyone's permission to leave, she decides for herself. "I'll pick up my friends and drive out now to see if the crossed twigs are still there" (41). Even now, getting a car is a huge step ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Summary: The Influence Of Barbie On Gender Identity In the article, " Influence of Barbie on Gender Identity" Barbie is considered to have a negative impact on households in America because of the way Barbie looks, discriminated as from other minorities, and the roles she has as a woman which are stereotypes. Many feel as though Barbie gives young girls insecurities at a young age and that when young girls interact with a Barbie they are supposed to act and think in a mature way. One person wrote in this article that Barbie has never influenced her gender identity when she was growing up. She never thought about Barbie as a bad influence. I would love for young girls to know that it is many ways for them to look if they want to be successful and beautiful and not just by looking at the image of Barbie. Another topic that was pointed out in the article was that there is a very small percentage of young girls that actually look like Barbie and why is that? This to me is a horrible thing because some children truly do look up to Barbie from the way she looks and dresses and feel they can be socially accepted by following the protocol of Barbie. • 15. Middle Eastern Marriage In the readings and films marriage has been a common topic, however, the most concerning aspect of Middle Eastern marriage is the legal age. The young age that Middle Eastern girls marry has come up in multiple movies and readings. The legal age for girls to marry is nine in the Middle East, which is in sharp contrast to the age of eighteen in the United States. The Middle East should not allow girls to wed so young. The young age at which some girls are married is alluded to in some Middle Eastern stories. In "A Wife for My Son" by Ali Ghalem the main character exclaims that she doesn't want to get married because she wants to keep going to school. In "The Assassination of Light at the River's Flow" by Khayriyah Ibrahim as–Saqqaf the narrator ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At that age children want to play and go to school they are not mature enough to do things such as cook, work, and pay bills. In the Middle East a man's wife is considered his property so that means it is unlikely that anyone will enforce the ban against sexual relations with girls so young. Also the fact that women are considered the property of their husbands puts them into a vulnerable situation where they have to rely on their husbands for everything. Furthermore, an older woman would be better equipped mentally to make the choice weather or not to get married. An adult would also have a much easier time running away from an undesired marriage. Marriage is a huge commitment that should only be entered into voluntarily, which is something that a child cannot do. Therefore, Middle Eastern countries should not allow girls to get married at such a young age. In conclusion, nine is too low of an age for marriage. Nine–year–old girls are not mature enough for the responsibilities of marriage nor adulthood. At that age they are not able to make the decision to marry, which means that the girls are given away like objects by their families. It is not fair to force young girls into marriage because they don't get any time at all to live their lives the way they want ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 21. Importance Of Boys Underachievement In Reading And Writing Although there is evidence that proves boys' underachievement in reading and writing in contrast to girls', it is important to first note that there are sources that identify boys being less committed to school than girls, but why is this? A significant aspect is boys' attitude to school and examinations. Weis (1990) effectively argues that the majority of boys are not concerned with excelling inschool, but only with passing. This evidence strongly suggests that boys' attitude to education is significantly lower than girls due to only requiring to pass exams instead of exceeding their limitations and reaching their full potential. A positive attitude to education is essential to ensure all pupils obtain higher than satisfactory academic achievements, resulting in a high–quality learning experience, although there are also numerous factors that contribute to boys' underachievement in reading and writing and the ways it can be tackled. Boys' underachievement in reading and writing can be traced to activities within their household. For example, it is not common that young boys witness their father reading novels instead of newspapers, yet there is evidence to suggest that young boys are strongly influenced by this. Pickering (1997, p. 49) supports this by expertly stating that, "it seems hard to deny that children are affected to some extent in their learning by the home." As a result, it can be argued that mothers are to blame as they are the ones reading stories to their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

What Is The Theme Of Girl By Jamaica Kincaid Essay Olivia Blanda English 101 Professor Grace Hughes 24 October 2017 A "Girl" and her Mother There are several responsibilities a girl should learn about before going off on her own and it is usually the mother's job to teach their daughter these life lessons. In the prose poem "Girl," by Jamaica Kincaid, a mother writes out a "guide" her daughter must follow in order to succeed in her adult years. This poem that the mother has written for her daughter is better seen as a "guide" to adulthood due to her use of an extremely long run–on sentence and choice of diction. The run–on sentence consists of a list of commands like "this is how you sweep a corner; this is how you sweep a whole house; this is how you sweep a yard" (22–24). Not only does the run–on sentence depict that this is a guide, but so does the constant repetition of "this is how" and "don't ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Wohlwend discuesses that " regardless; often girls want an hourglass–shaped body, glossy hair, long–lashed eyes, and a heart–shaped face; styled hair, as well as wealth and glamour. • 34. The Divide Of The Genders The Divide of the Genders In the past, there have been many debates about the gender gap happening throughout school systems. Even still to this day, there are many arguments about this topic. Back then, all there was was problems about education. Guys were more privileged than the girls were. For the past decades, this issue has stuck around. Many argue that boys are still more privileged than girls are. But many facts these days say otherwise. There are many people still that believe that schools are biased towards girls. Many think, "That girls are treated as the second sex in school and consequently suffer, that boys are accorded privileges and consequently benefit," so these are usually the things many people seem to presume. So these types of ideas have the schools being biased towards girls, which had now, "... given rise to an array of laws and policies intended to curtail the advantages boys have and to redress the harm done to girls" (Sommers). But these statements that are being made are not true. There are many facts that girls hardly suffer. There are now many, "claims that men are now the second sex and that boys––not girls––are the ones who are in serious trouble" (Kimmel). Yet, in thought, both sides of this debate are very true. That there is a crisis happening among boys. However, they are also both wrong. Yes, there are many logical facts proving that boys are now suffering more than the girls are. "Let 's begin with the evidence of crisis. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. What Are The Characteristics Of A Hero InThe Brothers... The lesson that I choose to rewrite is lesson two when we discussed The Brothers Grimm and the German Fairy Tale. In question two you asked what are the characteristics of a hero in these stories and I feel like I didn't actually use the reading to support how I felt when answering the question. I think that adventurous, strong and brave are characteristics of a hero in these stories. In each story there is a fight for what an individual wants or needs and nothing stops them. "Rapunzel" wants her prince and the enchantress sends her to a dessert with her twins alone and while blind the prince finds his family and they live happily ever after. In "Rumpelstilzchen" the young girl said she would promise this little man her first born if she became queen and when the time came she had three day to think of his name and with many days help from messenger she got his name and was able to keep her first born. These two stories alone show the adventure, bravery and strength of never giving up and getting what they want no matter what. These are characteristics in each story just told differently. 2. Why is one story's kind of violence inappropriate while another's violence is accepted almost without notice? Is there ever a place for violence in works of literature for children? Violence is seen in many different ways when reading literature. You have to keep into consideration the way it happens, who it hurts, and the lessons you learn from it. • 37. Girls Rule, Boys Drool: The Effects Of Gender Stereotypes. Girls Rule, Boys Drool: The Effects of Gender Stereotypes Gender roles have been used as a way of raising children for generations. While they have not always been the typical "pink is for girls, blue is for boys" stereotypes that we have grown accustomed to, there have always been certain roles for men and women that deem what is appropriate and what is not. Although the idea of gender roles has existed for centuries, the stereotypes themselves have evolved, leading many to believe that they are a social construct. "Up until the beginning of the 20th century, pink was actually more associated with boys, while blue was more associated with girls–illustrating how socially constructed these associations really are" ("Gender and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Gender roles put an idea into children's brains about the way society dictates how men and women should or should not act. These stereotypes can be harmful, as they often lead to sexism and misogyny. While gender roles may deem what is appropriate for each gender, they can also set expectations of people in society, some of which can be unachievable. This can put a pressure on young children that can follow them through their education and career. Gender–based stereotypes are also dangerous in the sense that if someone refuses to conform to traditional gender ideals, most of the time, they are ridiculed and harassed. One of the main disadvantages of gender roles is the unrealistic expectations they can put on children. Gender roles teach children that they need to act a certain way based on their gender in order to be accepted in society. For example, in "The Color of Children's Gender Stereotypes", Rachel Karniol explains a study performed that tested young Israeli children's preferences when it comes to coloring books. The results of the study showed that boys were less likely to use the color pink when coloring, and they tended to avoid the female–stereotyped illustrations in coloring books while girls used less female–stereotyped colors in the male–stereotyped illustrations (Karniol 119). Gender roles condition children to think that they are expected to act a certain way. Therefore, if a young boy wanted to color with a pink ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Good Girls Vs Bad Girls Essay A shocking part of history a women had to struggle was during the history of post World War II . Author Ann Fessler interviewed various of women who went through surrendering their newborn child for adoption. That was the only option or either you were going to be married at a young age. Parents had high expectations for their daughters to behave and follow the regulation of society. Bad girls are the ones who are sexually active or are pregnant because they had sex before marriage .In the 1950s and 1960s, when veterans were coming back from World War 2 young people became sexually active. This trend caused young college and high schoolfemale students go through sexual harassment or be sexual active. Many of the young women grew up in a puritanical family who consider being a sin if you even dared to be sexually active. Back then women were expected to wait until marriage and learn about sex from their spouse. During that time of era, plenty of young women were curious to experiment. • 39. Review Of Joyce Oates Where Are You Going, Where Have You... After reading "Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been?", I was quite disturbed as to why anybody would write a story about a young girl being stalked and possibly raped and murdered. I wondered what had happened in Joyce Oates life that had caused her to have the desire to use her literary skills to craft such a story. It seemed senseless to me until I read through the discussion prompt for this post and saw the link about Charles Schmid. After reading the article and doing some more research on Charles Schmid, I found that it is widely known that Oates wrote this short story as a response to reading a Time magazine article about him and the three young girls that he killed. The headlines in the nation focused on the depravity of American ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
