(Abudullah Al–Dulaimy, 2011: 5) It is well known that Yank relies in his vision of societal structure
on the basis of belonging, that is why by the begining, he thinks he has found an equilibrium in life
and he is happy with his work. Therefore, he has the reputation of being a hard and very effective
worker among his companions and he is pleased and comfortable with his present circumstances.
(Aloostany, 2011:1) His feeling of completeness is well described by O'Neill. He depicts him as a
'part' as an important piece for the mechanical world he venerates, he is the brute force that makes
the engines of the ship work. (Abudullah Al–Dulaimy, 2011: 6) "I'm de ting in gold dat makes it

steel! I'm de muscles in steel, de punch behind it!"(O'Neill, 1922: 13) Yank feels he is a valuable
person for the first time when he enters the company, he feels comfortable and settled there, since
during his chilhood he had been foresaken, he felt at home in the ship's furnace. (Abudullah Al–

Apes Vs Gorillas Research Paper
What two animals are like humans, but different from each other? Are Apes different from Gorillas?
Are Gorillas more like humans than Apes? Apes is not the same animal as Gorillas. Gorillas are
more like humans, but they are the hairy version of humans.
First, Apes and Gorillas have a lot of characteristics, and features. An average Ape is 5 feet, 8
inches, or 5 feet, 9 inches. Apes have 2 legs, but they use their arms as 2 extra pair of legs, medium
size muscles, 5 fingers of each hand, and 5 toes on each foot. Apes can be many colors black, tanish,
and dark brown. An average Ape weighs 150 lbs. Apes are classified as Mammals. An average
Gorilla is 6 feet, and 2 inches. Gorillas have 2 legs, really big muscles, 2 arms, 5 fingers on each

He, in this play, shows the lost identity of the modernAmerican man and his futile attempts in

Bigfoot Research Paper
What is 10 feet tall and 1,200 pounds? It's Bigfoot also known as Sasquatch in Canada, and Yeti in
the Middle–East. There are many video's and other pieces of evidence proving that Bigfoot is indeed
very real. Throughout many centuries, people have heard the story of Bigfoot. People always
wonder if he's real, let me tell you, he is. "So many people have seen this creature, and described
him the same that there is no way he's fake"("The Evidence For Bigfoot"). "One of the sets of casts
showed anatomical features of an injured foot that were either made by a real upright–walking
primate, or an artist with an expert understanding of primate foot anatomy" ( "The Evidence For
Bigfoot"). When people report that they saw Bigfoot, others often "label them as drunk or crazy"
(Ray). There have also been videos showing that Bigfoot is real. Almost 90% of sightings of Bigfoot
were in the Pacific Northwest near Oregon. They describe him as looking more like a hairy human
than a bear. Bigfoot's scientific name is Gigantopithecus. It was commonly found in South Asia
about 300,000 years ago. He was believed to be 1,200 pounds and 10 feet ... Show more content on

One footprint was 5 inches wide and 15 inches long. Bigfoot's "vocalizations" are described as

strongest pieces of evidence for the existence of sasquatches"("The Evidence For Bigfoot"). "Over
the last 40 years, it has never been proven to be a hoax(" The Evidence For Bigfoot"). Many people
think Bigfoot is just a man in a costume, or a bear in the wild. However, it is much more likely that
since people have described him the same way and in the same area, that he's an undiscovered

Bigfoot Evolution
Bigfoot is a species of North American ape.
How it's possible: When the earth had one supercontinent, a species of ape from Asia migrated to
North America using a land bridge connecting Russia and Alaska. Over time, the continents spread
apart which prevented the two populations from interacting. The smaller gene pool of the North
American paired with the new environment led to the new population favoring different alleles. As a
result the population of North American apes grew larger and began to favor walking on their back
legs.
How it could be proven: Use DNA testing to evaluate the similarities between modern and/or extinct
species of apes from Asia and Bigfoots.
Unit connections: Evolution (founder effect, speciation), Ecology (organization ... Show more

The descriptions of these two species tend to be very similar; they're tall, hairy, human–like beasts
that walk on their hind legs. Is it possible that these are two species were once one? And are they
still capable of reproducing with one another? Scientists have found that grizzly bears and polar
bears, when put together, produce viable and fertile offspring. This technically makes the two bears
one species. Logistically, however, the two are not considered of the same species because they live
so far apart that in nature it is very rare that the two would breed, although it has happened before.
Therefore, there is a prezygotic barrier rather than a postzygotic barrier. The same may be for

Feminism Vs Feminism
Feminist
To see women fight for something they believe in has always been admirable. Fighting their way to
vote and fighting their way for equality. Feminism, a controversial topic that both men and women
have trouble in agreeing on whether or not that society should accept the ideals of feminism. Many
see feminism as a form of evil while others see it as a movement of women who simply want to be
treated equally as men. For as long I can remember people given feminism a bad reputation because
of extremists, but feminism, is more than what others assume it to be based on the bad connotations,
the difference between sexism and feminism how they are portrayed, and finally the role that gender
plays in with society. Unfortunately Feminist has a misinterpreted definition. The word itself has a
double meaning that then the gap from actually knowing what the meaning of the word is and how
society has defined the word. From being misinformed the word feminist has then been altered in
such a way that it's now known as a movement of women trying to dominate and destroy men.
What a feminist really is it's a person, whether male or female who believe that the sexes should be
socially and economically equal. Most of society believes that the idea of feminism somehow
involves enraged women trying to overpower the male species and praise women. "He told me that
people were saying my novel was feminist, and his advice to me– he was shaking his head sadly as
he spoke– was that I should

24 Baby Gorillas Research Paper
On Saturday, the Rwandan government named 24 baby gorillas, as part of its annual Kwita Izina
naming ceremony that takes place in Rwanda's Volcanoes National Park every year. The event,
largely considered a popular tourist attraction, has been taking place for the past 11 years. This year,
in a scene The Guardian describes as "reminiscent of Planet of the Apes," a dozen performers in
hairy gorilla suits took the place of the 24 baby gorillas, which were not present at the ceremony.
The naming ceremony pays homage to a Rwandan tradition celebrating the birth of a child. Aside
from its role as a tourist attraction, the event sheds light on the importance of conservation in the
country. Today, the World Wildlife Fund estimates that there are

The first reading I enjoyed was Susan Glaspell's "Trifles". The main character in the plat is a sheriff,
his wife, the county attorney, and Mr. and Mrs. Hale. The opening scene is all of them in John
Wright's kitchen. Mr. Hale tells the sheriff and attorney how he a visited the house on the day before
day and Mrs. Wright greeted him but her demeanor was little suspicions. She told him that her
husband was upstairs dead. She says she was asleep when someone choked her husband to death.
All the men suspect she is the murderer. While the men look for evidence in the house they criticize
Mrs. Wright's housekeeping skills and that really irritates Mrs. Hale and Mrs. Peter, the sheriff's
wife. While the men continue to look around the house, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

William Oneill 's The Hairy Ape
Often times literature is used to reflect historical events of the time period in which the piece is
written. Examining artifacts such as books, plays, or music is a way to gain insight into the social,
political, and cultural attitudes of that time period. An example of a primary source of the 1920s
would be Eugene Oneill's the Hairy Ape. In this play, the main character Yank falls victim to a
technological movement, the Industrial Revolution. New ideas, technologies, and cultures were
emerging, and Yank has to deal with the adversity of post WWI America.
The play begins with a scene that incudes firemen working in the engine room of a ship talking
amongst each other. This scene is depicts the transformation from human labor to machines, ...

In Scene 1 he believes he is self–confident, powerful and strong, that he has the ability to make a
difference the world. Yank truly believes he is what keeps society running smoothly. The United
States had just won the first major world war and transformed themselves into an official world
superpower, so the general vibe and attitude throughout the country was a positive one. However, as
the play progresses, Yank slowly realizes how little impact his single soul can make. By the time he
is kicked out of the Industrial Workers of the World (I.W.W.) office in Scene 7, he feels as though he
is a broken machine that can no longer do work. Near the end of Scene 7 he says, "I'm a busted
Ingersoll, dat 's what. Steel was me, and I owned de woild. Now I ain 't steel, and de woild owns me.
Aw, hell! I can 't see–it 's all dark, get me? It 's all wrong!" (O'Neill 297). O'Neill uses Yank to
symbolize how people lose hope for a better future when the world does not care about them. The
workers of the 1920s were being exploited and downgraded into apes. Many immigrants traveled to
the United States with ambition and passion in search of a better life. After being greeted by the
breathtaking beauty of the Statue of Liberty, what awaited these immigrants was life in the factories.
The factories were crowded, poorly ventilated, and workers faced long hours for low wages. Just

The Psychological And Psychological Crises Of Kuber And Yank
Sometimes, rather most often, some questions, raised by the impuissant, are never answered; rather
suppressed. Some are never raised as the powerless people, who do not possess the internal and
external courage to pose the hundreds of unanswered questions regarding survival, have been in
severe crisis of existence throughout their life span– living as inferior, in terms of every
acknowledged and unacknowledged fundamental needs, among the superior–as an evidence and
representative of furtive humanity. This work is an attempt to point out the psychological and
physiological crises of Kuber and Yank, that are contributed by the conflicting factors and forces
exist in the society where extreme dichotomy prevails between and among the people of two
opposite classes : one is the upper class, that always endeavors to exploit the opposite class and,
sometimes, homogenous class as well and the other is the lower class that is always exploited in
different forms with the mechanical tools adopted cunningly, foolishly, intentionally, unintentionally
and consciously or subconsciously by the upper class.

Bigfoot : An Urban Myth Or The Missing Legend Of The Human...

Bigfoot Is Real! Is Bigfoot an urban myth or the missing legend of the human revolution? For many
years, Sasquatch, or more commonly known as Bigfoot have become one of the most popular
mysteries known on the face of Earth. The ape–like creature was a well–known legend in the 19th
century that was described to be a large, dark hairy beast that stands approximately seven to fourteen
feet tall, weighing in at more than thirty–five to a thousand pounds with features like an ape. Some
scientists believe that Bigfoot is nothing more than a myth or a legend. With the advancement in
technology in the 21st century, scientists are able to find new concrete evidence, indicating that
Bigfoot is authentic. Based on compelling details by expert Bill Munns during film analysis that
captures a depiction of a Sasquatch in the first popular film taken by Roger Patterson and Robert
"Bill" Gimlin in 1967 at Bluff Creek, California which exhibits an unidentified ape–like species that
is not just a man in an ape costume. Not convinced? Consider the conclusive modern day DNA
evidence analyze by forensics scientist Dr. Melba Ketchum showing an unknown species wandering
in the forest of North America. Lastly, a creature fitting the description of Sasquatch from
eyewitness testimonies that has been reported over the years is indeed an actual species of an
undiscovered ape–like creature. The original Patterson–Grimlin Film (PGF) was kept

Comparison Of Animal Farm And Moby Dick
Animals are a staple of childhood–– we are surrounded by them from birth into adulthood; hence,
the overwhelming mountain of stuffed animals and picture books sifted through at our transition into
maturity. Notably, animals appear in a variety of works, from children's literature to classics like
George Orwell's Animal Farm and Herman Melville's Moby–Dick. Recently, the scientific
community has obsessed itself with identifying a clear, distinctive boundary between humans and
animals, while the literary world has challenged scientific thought by blurring the boundaries
between the two. In fact, several pieces of literature attempt to eradicate any similarities by
presenting readers with a blend of human and animal characters who serve a ... Show more content

However, in Scene Eight, Eugene O'Neill introduces a true animal character: a large ape, who is the
ultimate demise of Yank. In an attempt to connect with his supposed "kind", Yank releases the ape
and unfortunately, the ape attacks him and leaves him in the cage to die. It is an ironic death, yet
symbolizes the boundary between humans and animals because an animal was able to take the life
of an "ever–superior" human. The interaction causes readers to question whether or not there is a
clear boundary between humans and animals because an animal is able to take the entire essence of
a human away from us: life. Gabriel García Márquez comments on the abilities of humans and
animals in his popular short story, "A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings", by introducing readers
to a humanimal: a character who is both human and animal. The character is presented as an angel
with exceptional human–like characteristics, so he is greatly criticized by the Church. On the other
hand, the townspeople view him as a spectacle–– in fact, the married couple who discovered the
tattered humanimal creates an enterprise based upon his differences from them. The interaction
between the townspeople and the angel is one of interest, as observed in the two quotes:

Mrs. Wright As A Woman 's Culture Of Social Isolation Essay
Mrs. Wright in "Trifles," Emily in "A Rose for Emily," and Mildred in "The Hairy Ape" exemplified
a woman's culture of social isolation. Condemned in a house alone to worry only about her wifely
duties, Mrs. Wright's husband isolated her from the community and past self. Pressured by her
father, lover, and her own fear of abandonment, Emily lived a life of isolation from love and her
community. Caused by her many years living in the higher class, Mildred felt isolated from the rest
of society and the lower class. Mrs. Wright, Miss Emily, and Mildred have all been pushed into
seclusion away from general society, in turn causing all three of women to take drastic measures to
break their isolation. The three females in "Triffles," "A Rose for Emily," and "The Hairy Ape"
demonstrated the negative effect of social isolation.
Mrs. Wright suffered from social isolation caused by her husband. When Mr. Hale suggested the
family "go in with me on a party telephone," Mr. Wright defended himself by saying he only wanted
"peace and quiet" and seemed to not care "what his wife wanted." Even when Mr. Hale explained to
Mrs. Wright the reason behind his visit was to ask about the telephone, she laughed, but then looked
scared. As if she had been conditioned to suppress her true wishes and desires, unless she wished for
grief. Without the agency and ability to reach out to the other women, Mr. Wright isolated Mrs.

The big hairy beast that roams around in the woods has a name. Some call it Bigfoot and some call
it Sasquatch but no matter what its name is everybody wonders, is it real? Most likely if you ask
your parents, friends, or family if they have seen the beast, they will say no and that it's just a myth
but some believe that Bigfoot is oh so very real. Some believe that the beast is a large person who
has been lost in the woods and has never found his way home. Others say that it's some kind of ape
and I believe that it's none of those things and that it's something no one has ever scientifically
discovered. I almost don't even believe that because unless there is hard proof, how can I really
believe? Right now the most convincing proof there is of the existence of Bigfoot is the Patterson
film. The film was taken October 19, 1967 by Roger Patterson while on a trip with his friend Bob
Gimlin in Washington state near Bluff Creek. The men's mission was to examine some footprint

Bigfoot
For over a 150 years man has been troubled by one great mystery, a mystery that has baffled all who
have witnessed it and all who have tried to solve it. This mystery is commonly known as Bigfoot, a
tall hairy man/ape who lurks in the woods in almost every country on this planet. Some say it is just
an ape, some believe it is a man in costume, and others are true believers of this hairy phenomenon.
For more than a decade and a half this creature of myth has caused enormous contradictions in the
field of science, bringing about one question. Does Bigfoot exist?
Throughout the 150 year history of Bigfoot many concerns have raised, the most in number have
been from Native Americans. The Karok Indians tell of an "upslope person" ... Show more content

These people have given detail of its features and characteristics. Bigfoot is described to have a
rancid odor which is smelt from miles away. It can weight up to 1,000 pounds and it reach higher
than eight feet in length (Gaffron, 16). Its footprints tell a lot about Bigfoot as well, from them
scientists deduce his extremely wide strides of six to eight feet, the four inch to 24 inch foot size,
and the unusual disproportionate width of the ball of its feet (Fahrenbach). With all its obvious
differences Bigfoot also shares common traits with primates, for example the hair some bone
structure, and a minimum mental capacity.
From the United States to China people have reported seeing what they believe is Bigfoot. These
encounters may or may not be true; one cannot know for certain the truth of such questionable
things, the only thing that can be done is to keep an open mind. The most common sightings occur
in remote regions in northern and southern California, by people claiming to see huge, hairy human–
like creatures. Most people that see a Bigfoot don't know what they've seen, let alone know it's
something worth reporting. These are some examples of sightings which have been recorded. In

Thesis: Bigfoot exist today because of the scientific evidence that has been found within fossils and
witnesses who seen him.
Many people have an opinion on whether Bigfoot exist or is a hoax. The name "bigfoot" was
recorded by the Americans in the 19th century. People may say what is Bigfoot? Bigfoot is
America's most legendary creature, he's a hairy ape who walks up on his feet, exactly like a human
being. Bigfoot has some features such as his body shape, chest, neck, face, limb proportions and hair
color. To start off his body is shaped humanlike, rather than a bear although he has several aspects of
his appearance that are different from a human body. His chest is very large and built, the neck is

Jerry Crew was later on a newspaper on October 5, 1958. He took a picture with the fossil and it was
the length of his upper body that's how "Bigfoot" got his name.Later in 1967, a video footage was
shot by Robert Bob and Roger Patterson in Bluff Creek, California, Bigfoot creeping through trees
on his bare feet in broad daylight. It was the second evidence that shows bigfoot was captured on
footage.People question if that film was either a hoax or it was real the question is still open.Grover
Krantz, admits that's the height of the creature is within human size but the chest is too large to be
human like. He quoted " I can confidently state that no man of that stature is built that broadly."
Eventually they got a second opinion by David Daegling and Daniel Schmitt, they are
anthropologists. They both claimed that the chest was "impossibly wide" for a humans body and
also said that the creature walks in a manner impossible for a person to duplicate. Many people say
they don't believe in Bigfoot because there is a lot of fake videos and pictures, but people tend to

"Japanese were perceived as animals, reptiles, or insects (monkeys, baboons, gorillas, dogs, mice

Dower, the writer of War Without Mercy, focused part of his book on the way the Japanese in
American culture were viewed by the public and the other part on the way the Americans were
viewed by the Japanese in their culture. Each chapter in Dower's book is titled in a way so that they
describe how the Japanese and Americans were viewed by each other's culture. During WWII the
Japanese were not the only culture that was viewed poorly, the Americans were also viewed very
poorly while in the Japanese public culture. Race played a very large role in the war in the Pacific
during WWII. The Japanese were identified with animals most commonly apes or vermin; and the
Americans were identified as demons by the Japanese. The racial stereotypes between the Japanese

Why People Believe In Bigfoot
foot Bigfoot is by far one of the most controversial creatures in all of history. Generally, it is
described as a large, hairy, ape– like creature. It is reported to have many physical similarities to an
ape, however it walks on two legs like us humans. Just as its name clearly states, Bigfoot is said to
have very, very large feet. The range of its height is between 6–10 feet tall and it is said to be either
brownish or reddish in color. There are many reasons to why people believe in Bigfoot. The most
obvious reason is because of the "proof". For hundreds of years people from different nations have
claimed to have spotted or found evidence of the beast out in the wild. The first evidence found in
Canada was in the year 1811, by a man who is said to have found large footprints in the snow, ...

One main reason for this is because of the lack of legit proof. The reality is that the vast majorities
of Bigfoot sightings are hoaxes which have been proven to be fake. The small percentage of "actual"
sightings could easily have been a mistake of seeing some animal on its two legs, or something of
that kind. Also, there has never been actual Bigfoot bones or fossils found anywhere. Basically,
there isn't enough any solid proof to support the fact that Bigfoot actually exists. Personally, I do not
believe that Bigfoot exists. In my opinion, the photographs and video footage people have captured
are incredibly blurry and not very clear to see whether it is an actual beast or a human in some sort
of costume. The evidence that Bigfoot exists is too shaky for me to believe in a creature this
controversial. There are no historical facts that show that a creature like Bigfoot had ever existed.
Also, if people believe that there is a whole species of Bigfoot living in the wild, how come no one
has captured one yet or found out where the species

them can get up to between 120 pounds all the way to a close 200. They also can stand up very tall
and get up to between four to five feet, which is literally my grandma's height. Orangutan's hair
colors are slightly different than one another. Some have dark orange, brown orange and sometimes
even pale orange. Those are some of the rare colors you will see in orangutans; the most common
hair color for an orangutan is reddish orange. Their physical appearance is almost looking at a
human being who is very hairy. They have almost everything we have and look just like them for
example. Orangutans have hands and feet just like us with opposable thumbs so ... Show more

always wonder if they think the same thing. From what I can remember I honestly think the local
ecology behavior doesn't really affect anything. To me I think it's normal, I mean they have been
living like this for thousands of years and have adapted to it. I do think that humans and orangutans
can relate to the ecology behavior. For example our human ecology is basically a short term of
having an interrelationship between humans and our social, economic and political organizations.
The development of tool use amongst the apes is truly an amazing thing seeing as for us that is

comfort needs is really a remarkable thing. Orangutans are beautiful creatures and we must learn as

Bigfoot Research Paper
Throughout the ages people have been wondering if some myths are real. Bigfoot is one of those
myths that has believed to exist and is found all over the US. Sightings and stories of the big furry
bigfoot running around forests makes others want to see if he is real or not.
This myth even is unexplainable today and scientists wonder where is he lurking.
There are a lot of videos about that "big hairy figure bigfoot walking in the forest"("Not Even Ranae

Bigfoot : A Hoax
Bigfoot, is he real or is he just a myth and hoax. Some call it Bigfoot and others call it Sasquatch,
but no matter what you call he is real and not just a hoax. The legend of Bigfoot goes as far back as
ancient Indian tribes. There is not a lot of evidence on Bigfoot's existence how ever the evidence
that does exist is enough to convince people that he is real. If you don't believe in Bigfoot im not
going to tell you that you are wrong, I just want to tell the other side and hopefully convince the non
believers that Bigfoot is not a hoax. There are certain things that one should hear about Bigfoot
before making the conclusion that he is fake. Bigfoot is just a large bipedal ape, who can be traced
back to other bipedal apes who existed hundreds of years ago.
The history behind Bigfoot goes back as far to Indigenous populations and ancient Indian tribes.
Tribes such as the Hopis, Seeahtik, Spokane, Lokota, and tribes in Canada (just to name a few) all
have stories that have been passed down that describe "Hairy man like creatures." It has the same
description that Bigfoot has now in the present time. They did not mistake this creature for another
animal like a bear, deer, or a wolf, because they have words and stories about those as well. They
also have painting that resemble a large hairy man that looks like an ape. Totem poles older than 500
years with Bigfoot creatures carved into them. The first recorded Bigfoot sighting occurred in

Yank as a Modern Day Oedipus in O' Neill's Play, The Hairy Ape
The representation of tragedy today has adapted itself to more humanistic, base and symbolic
concerns. Often, they are commentaries on society just as much as they are on the nature of man.
Although O' Neill insists that his play "The Hairy Ape" is not a tragedy, but rather a dark comedy,
the play follows the definition of a tragedy. The basic points that make up a tragedy still remain the
same, even if they have to be slightly modified to be relevant to today's audience. Despite this, The
Hairy Ape bears a striking resemblance to the quintessential Greek tragedy, Oedipus Rex.
The only direct challenge to the Aristotelian definition of tragedy is the portrayal of the ... Show

YANK : ...I wished it'd banged her! I wished it'd knocked her block off.

YANK : I don't give a damn what! I'd be square wit her, wouldn't I? Tink I wanter let her put
somep'n over on me? Tink I'm gonna let her git away wit that stuff?
This is one of the most telling sections of the play. Long is the voice of reason. He recognizes the
concept of law and weighs decisions inside the context of such. Long sees his life as more important
than Mildred and her actions are. Yank however, does not merely want revenge on Mildred. For
Yank, the only important thing is his sense of self respect. He isn't going to let her put "somep'n"
over me. Ironically, Long's declaration that Yank would be "'anged or 'lectrocuted" is only half true.
Yank does indeed die at the end of his search to reclaim his dignity and identity, but in accordance
with his final realization that he is merely a brute, animalistic being, he is killed by and as such.
Oedipus may literally be of noble stature, but Yank is "noble" in a psychological sense. Yank sees
himself in a lofty and admirable position – this is his sense of self. This self–pride is Yank's
equivalent of Oedipus noble status. There are few "nobles" in modern day, and in response, modern
tragedies have reverted back to the core theme of a tragedy – the transition of man into a higher

The Theme Of Alienation In Eugene O Neill's The Hairy Ape
1. Introduction The themes of alienation and identity quest were one of the major themes when it
comes to writers of the 20th century, no matter which genre they belonged. They usually used their
abilities and techniques to criticize the society, emphasizing the idea of dehumanizing men that
came with industrialism, blaming it for the alienation of the individual from society. Eugene O'Neill,
among many other writers, was also concerned with the notion of enslaving the working class by
capitalists, and the effect it had, depriving them and giving them the feeling of low self–esteem. It
was inevitable that such changes will bring the feeling of oppression as well, since moral and
materialistic values shifted and everything turned upside down, eventually brining emptiness and
lack of security, losing the faith both in humanity and God. O'Neill strongly criticized the capitalist
system, fighting for the idea that it should stand for workers, not against them. Karl Marx, dealing
with the theme of alienation for many years as well, also criticized society divided into social
classes within the capitalism, which turned the man into a mechanistic part, eventually estranging
him from the humanity, and claimed that the result of being unable to determine one's own destiny,
actions and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Writer himself described it as expressionistic play, "both in technique and in its disgust at modern
humanity. The lower classes in it are hairy apes, the upper classes more marionettes." (Gascoigne

beginning, yet through the direct contact with someone from above his search for himself begins,
with the constant feeling of being alienated and unaccepted, finally ending tragically with the hope

Bigfoot Description
On 10 August 2001 at about 3.00pm, the sun was shining and there were only a few clouds on the
sky. I decided to go out for a walk, so I took my car and drove to a big forest in Schouweiler. There
are no streets near the forest, so I walked about 1 km to reach it. After an hour I was deep inside the
forest so I decided to go home. But suddenly I heard a little noise. I turned around, but I didn't see
anything. A few seconds later I heard a sound of breaking branches, I looked around and I saw a
dark figure standing a few meters behind me. It was about 2m (6 foot 6 inches) tall, dark haired and
very big. I tried to film it, but it disappeared quickly, I couldn't follow anymore. After an hour I was

Gorillas are another example of primates that exhibit sexual dimorphism. The females average 158
pounds, while the males average 374 pounds. Gorillas are vegetarian but all eat some insects and
small animals. Gorillas can climb trees but spend most of their time on the ground where they walk
on their knuckles and feet. Like the orangutans they reproduce slowly; most have their first child
after age nine and have children about every four years. Chimpanzees also have three subspecies,
one found in west Africa, one in central Africa, and one in east Africa. These species have subtle
differences in appearance. They also exhibit sexual dimorphism but it is less extreme than gorillas.
The male generally weights between 90–130 pounds, and the female weighs between 70 and 100
pounds. They are also mainly vegetarian, but fruit is a bigger part of their diet than gorillas.
Bonobos are closely related to chimpanzees and exhibit slight sexual dimorphism. The males weigh
86 pounds, and the females weigh 68 pounds. They live in rainforests and eat vegetation and insects.
Both of these species walk on their feet and palms. Humans are a part of all the taxa and their own
called Homo Sapiens. We are distinguished by our straight backs and that we walk on two limbs. We

The Human Nature Of Animal Border
The human–animal border is something people have been fascinated with for years. Humans are
taught at a younger at that there is supposed to be a separation between humans and animals, but as
the years have gone on this border has started to dissipate. Humans now relate to animals more than
ever before. Kids idolize them because of the movies and television shows, and adults turn to
animals in times of great need. Animals have become more like humans which poses the question:
does this border even exist anymore? Over time live action animal shows have become very
popular, and people are willing to spend large sums of money to see exotic animals up close and
personal. It doesn't matter if it is a lion, elephant or horse. People want to experience the exoticism
that they cannot get on a daily basis. Also, plays that have humans portraying animals have become
increasingly popular over the last century. All of these events have caused the human animal border
to be extremely blurred because it is hard to distinguish between humans and animals when the two
are now so closely related. In the following paragraphs, there will be several live action animal acts
and plays that will be used to show how the human animal border is disappearing. (216)
(transition)Two shows that perfectly depict how the border is disappearing are Zingaro, which is an
equestrian dance theater performance, and Equus, which is a play about a troubled young boy and

Persuasive Essay On The Skunk Ape
Remember when everybody was obsessed with Bigfoot?! Well, it appears that the newest obsession
is the Skunk Ape. You probably pictured an animal that is literally half skunk and have ape, not
quite. It is a big, hairy walking ape. Although the United States National Park Service says that
skunk apes are a hoax, it's obvious that they are real because there are pictures and articles that
prove that they do exist. The skunk ape is a hominid cryptid; It is a very tall animal. The males can
be up to seven feet tall and weigh 350 pounds. The females can grow up to six feet and weigh up to
250 pounds (Shealy). Both genders seem to be strong animals. They are considered a bipedal animal
since they have two feet and each foot has five toes (Nickell). It is said that they smell horrible. The
following excerpt describes the skunk ape's particular smell, "...distinguished as "smelly," ... "rancid,
putrid odor," like "that of rotten food and dead animal" ... having "the usual scent of cabbage and
rotten eggs" (Nickell). They smell like this because they hang out in swamps with other nasty
creatures. As far as their habitat, they are found throughout Florida. They occupy places like the
Everglades, swamps, alligator caves or national parks. According to a web article, "They have been
spotted as far north as Tallahassee and as far south as Lostman's River" (Shealy). It's crazy to think
that they could be so close to us. The following quotation is from the Skunkape Headquarters

Methods of Characterization in The Hairy Ape
Eugene Gladstone O'Neill was born October 16, 1888, to Irish–American parents in New York City.
His mother, Ella O'Neill, reserved and genteel (Sheaffer 15), came from a prosperous Cleveland
family. His father, James O'Neill, from a poor family, was an actor who became synonymous with
Dumas' Count of Monte Cristo, a role he performed over 3000 times (Sheaffer 8). Driven by fear of
poverty, James worked nonstop and constantly tried his hand at get–rich–quick schemes, such as
buying and selling real estate. Eugene had one older brother James. During Eugene's early years, the

O'Neill married Agnes Boulton in 1918, and Shane Rudraight O'Neill was born October 20,
1922. O'Neill won his first Pulitzer Prize for Beyond the Horizon (1920). He won two more for
Anna Christie (1922) and Strange Interlude (1928) and one posthumously for
Long Day's Journey into Night (1957). In 1929, O'Neill divorced Agnes and married
Carlotta Monterey, his third and final wife. O'Neill received the Nobel Prize for literature in 1936,
recognition of his work as possibly America's most influential dramatist. Later in his life he
developed Parkinson's disease which severely hampered his ability to write. In November 1953,
O'Neill developed pneumonia. Exhausted, he was confined to a room in a Boston hotel. Shortly
before he died, he sat up and cried, "I knew it, I knew it! Born in a [hotel room] and dying in a hotel
room!" (Sheaffer 24). He died November 27.
The Hairy Ape (1921) chronicles "the social snobbishness" (Carpenter 31) Eugene
O'Neill encountered during his stints as a crewmember on passenger liners to and from
Europe. For The Hairy Ape, O'Neill took cues from the expressionists and "employed
[techniques] of anti–realism" such as "the conscious use of symbolism, the use of masks, and other
techniques which would suggest the sharp division between the surface reality and the subconscious
mind" (Carpenter 52). While many people

Hairless Hypothesis
Why do humans have no fur?
The question of why humans became hairless has been a highly debated topic for centuries. Many
theories and hypothesis have been produced to account for why humans have no fur; some are
supported whilst others have been heavily criticised, none have been generally accepted. Questions
surrounding the subject include "why have humans retained head and pubic hair?" and "why do
females have less hair in comparison to males?"
Three leading theories include the body cooling hypothesis, the aquatic ape hypothesis and the
parasitic hypothesis. In this essay, I will present and evaluate some of these theories and attempt a
conclusion as to why humans shed their fur.
Introduction
Humans possess a unique and unusual trait found ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Parasites not only cause irritation and discomfort, but also carry viruses and diseases which could
prove to be fatal. Hairlessness would reduce parasitic load therefore reducing the likelihood of
diseases, viruses, infections and discomfort brought on by the parasites. This theory was first put
forth by Belt. However Charles Darwin (1888) rejected this hypothesis because it doesn't explain
why only humans lost their hair as ectoparasites are a problem to all primates.
Human intelligence grew as humans evolved, enabling humans to build fires, make shelters and
produce clothes, which could be washed or changed if infested with parasites. This meant that
humans were able to shed their hair, reducing ectoparasites while avoiding exposure to the sun, cold
and other weather conditions.
The only other example of this theory is the naked mole rat, which is the only other mammal that
has no fur and that doesn't live in an aquatic environment. The naked mole rat lives underground so
has no threat from exposure to sun and UV radiation. There is expected to be a high number of
parasites living in these colonies of naked mole rats however, their climate tends to regulate the
negative effect this would have on them; making hairlessness feasible for this

these men, but she does have to deal with obstacles in the way of her freedom as well. If she leaves

The Tale of Bigfoot
The tale of Bigfoot or Sasquatch traces its origins back to the Native American tribes of the
Northwestern part of the United States and Canada. The natives told this tale of a group of giant

preserve order. Bigfoot sightings have spread throughout the United States and the world. Our
fascination with this creature have spiraled into almost mass hysteria among people to find and
prove this creature is real. I decided to observe and analyze the film Bigfoot.
When watching the film Bigfoot created in 1970 directed by Robert Slatzer and starring John

in class. To name some of these theorists and concepts such as, Mary Douglas theory of dirt,
Aristotle's conceptualization of reproduction, Freud's uncanny and the double, and Ann Ratcliff's
difference between terror and horror. Despite the terrible and cheesy 1970's effects this movie is
actually enjoyable to watch and the perfect movie for analyzing the theoretical concepts we have
learned throughout the semester. The film was actually shot in undisclosed mountain wilderness
locations where Bigfoot was alleged to have been sighted. The movie begins with a women "Joi

creature that appears half man and half ape have existed in various parts of the world for many
centuries. Bigfoot is also known as Abnuaaya, Abominable Snowman, Albasty, Alma, Almasty,
Annapurna Footprints, Bekk–Bokk, Boardman and Tasker Tracks, Cryptid, Cryptozoologist,

The animal's very name came from the size of the footprints it leaves behind. Some tracks have toes
that have five toes, but then there other tracks that have two, three, four or even six toes. Not all
prints found are footprints. In September 2000, a team of investigators from the Bigfoot Field
Research Organization found a Bigfoot body print and also they have got sounds from Bigfoot that
sound like grunts, howls, and growls (www.csicop.org). In February, a group of Colorado
researchers claimed they found scientific evidence to confirm Bigfoot's existence. Researcher Dave
Paulides says his research group collected hundreds of DNA samples from Bigfoot, mostly from
Northern California's redwoods, and said the creature is a human subspecies. Bigfoot's legend has
evolved over the years cause there are more sightings of Bigfoot and more evidence on what it is
and where it has come from. Bigfoot is an odd unexplained creature that we have no idea of but we
have a lot of hard evidence that points to something. As you can see of how many names he has
there's a lot of people who has seen this big hairy ape like creature. Theirs evidence that points to
human hybrids. So maybe the evolution of Bigfoot has evolved a lot and we don't see it, because
since theirs no actual Bigfoot right in front of them people tend to think he is fake, but with all the
eye witness accounts out there it points to something

Does The Hairy Ape Still Relevant Today?
A popular question in society is always what makes a person who they are. Is the world one lives in
to blame? Or is the people who raised them responsible for the person one becomes? The question
always comes down to nature versus nurture. This question is relevant in The Hairy Ape when one
looks at its characters and their outlook on the way the world they live in operates. Furthermore this
question is relevant today, because the way each human operates could be do to nature of the world
around them, or the people who nurture them.
O'Niells The Hairy Ape and its question of nurture versus nature is still relevant today through its
characters Paddy, Long, and Yank through what they strive to live for and how they view the world

To Yank without him nothing would run. He is the master of the steel world and if he does not put
the coal in the furnace the steel boat would not run, and no one would be going on the nice boat for
fun. The world around him tells him that he is inferior to practically everyone, yet on his eyes he is
the most important person of them all. This makes the question relevant as to who taught him that he
was most important the nature of his world or the nurturing he receives growing up. "Everyting else
dat makes de woild move, somep'n makes it move. It can't move without somep'n else, see? Den yuh
get down to me. I'm at de bottom, get me! Dere ain't nothin' foither. I'm de end! I'm de start! I start
somep'n and de woild moves!" (O'Niell Scene 1). With Yank there is also the way of viewing the
question if it is the lack of nature or nurture that makes him try to continually prove that he fits into
the world just like everyone

There are many video's and other pieces of evidence proving that Bigfoot is indeed very real. Throughout many centuries, people have heard the story of Bigfoot. People always wonder if he's real, let me tell you, he is. "So many people have seen this creature, and described him the same that there is no way he's fake"("The Evidence For Bigfoot"). "One of the sets of casts showed anatomical features of an injured foot that were either made by a real upright–walking primate, or an artist with an expert understanding of primate foot anatomy" ( "The Evidence For Bigfoot"). When people report that they saw Bigfoot, others often "label them as drunk or crazy" (Ray). There have also been videos showing that Bigfoot is real. Almost 90% of sightings of Bigfoot were in the Pacific Northwest near Oregon. They describe him as looking more like a hairy human than a bear. Bigfoot's scientific name is Gigantopithecus. • 9. Bigfoot Evolution Bigfoot is a species of North American ape. How it's possible: When the earth had one supercontinent, a species of ape from Asia migrated to North America using a land bridge connecting Russia and Alaska. Over time, the continents spread apart which prevented the two populations from interacting. The smaller gene pool of the North American paired with the new environment led to the new population favoring different alleles. As a result the population of North American apes grew larger and began to favor walking on their back legs. How it could be proven: Use DNA testing to evaluate the similarities between modern and/or extinct species of apes from Asia and Bigfoots. Unit connections: Evolution (founder effect, speciation), Ecology (organization ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The descriptions of these two species tend to be very similar; they're tall, hairy, human–like beasts that walk on their hind legs. Is it possible that these are two species were once one? And are they still capable of reproducing with one another? Scientists have found that grizzly bears and polar bears, when put together, produce viable and fertile offspring. This technically makes the two bears one species. Logistically, however, the two are not considered of the same species because they live so far apart that in nature it is very rare that the two would breed, although it has happened before. Therefore, there is a prezygotic barrier rather than a postzygotic barrier. The same may be for Bigfoots and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Feminism Vs Feminism Feminist To see women fight for something they believe in has always been admirable. Fighting their way to vote and fighting their way for equality. Feminism, a controversial topic that both men and women have trouble in agreeing on whether or not that society should accept the ideals of feminism. Many see feminism as a form of evil while others see it as a movement of women who simply want to be treated equally as men. For as long I can remember people given feminism a bad reputation because of extremists, but feminism, is more than what others assume it to be based on the bad connotations, the difference between sexism and feminism how they are portrayed, and finally the role that gender plays in with society. Unfortunately Feminist has a misinterpreted definition. The word itself has a double meaning that then the gap from actually knowing what the meaning of the word is and how society has defined the word. From being misinformed the word feminist has then been altered in such a way that it's now known as a movement of women trying to dominate and destroy men. What a feminist really is it's a person, whether male or female who believe that the sexes should be socially and economically equal. Most of society believes that the idea of feminism somehow involves enraged women trying to overpower the male species and praise women. The event, largely considered a popular tourist attraction, has been taking place for the past 11 years. This year, in a scene The Guardian describes as "reminiscent of Planet of the Apes," a dozen performers in hairy gorilla suits took the place of the 24 baby gorillas, which were not present at the ceremony. The naming ceremony pays homage to a Rwandan tradition celebrating the birth of a child. Examining artifacts such as books, plays, or music is a way to gain insight into the social, political, and cultural attitudes of that time period. An example of a primary source of the 1920s would be Eugene Oneill's the Hairy Ape. In this play, the main character Yank falls victim to a technological movement, the Industrial Revolution. New ideas, technologies, and cultures were emerging, and Yank has to deal with the adversity of post WWI America. The play begins with a scene that incudes firemen working in the engine room of a ship talking amongst each other. This scene is depicts the transformation from human labor to machines, ... Yank truly believes he is what keeps society running smoothly. The United States had just won the first major world war and transformed themselves into an official world superpower, so the general vibe and attitude throughout the country was a positive one. However, as the play progresses, Yank slowly realizes how little impact his single soul can make. By the time he is kicked out of the Industrial Workers of the World (I.W.W.) office in Scene 7, he feels as though he is a broken machine that can no longer do work. Near the end of Scene 7 he says, "I'm a busted Ingersoll, dat 's what. Steel was me, and I owned de woild. Now I ain 't steel, and de woild owns me. Aw, hell! I can 't see–it 's all dark, get me? Is Bigfoot an urban myth or the missing legend of the human revolution? For many years, Sasquatch, or more commonly known as Bigfoot have become one of the most popular mysteries known on the face of Earth. The ape–like creature was a well–known legend in the 19th century that was described to be a large, dark hairy beast that stands approximately seven to fourteen feet tall, weighing in at more than thirty–five to a thousand pounds with features like an ape. Some scientists believe that Bigfoot is nothing more than a myth or a legend. With the advancement in technology in the 21st century, scientists are able to find new concrete evidence, indicating that Bigfoot is authentic. Based on compelling details by expert Bill Munns during film analysis that captures a depiction of a Sasquatch in the first popular film taken by Roger Patterson and Robert "Bill" Gimlin in 1967 at Bluff Creek, California which exhibits an unidentified ape–like species that is not just a man in an ape costume. Not convinced? Consider the conclusive modern day DNA evidence analyze by forensics scientist Dr. Melba Ketchum showing an unknown species wandering in the forest of North America. Lastly, a creature fitting the description of Sasquatch from eyewitness testimonies that has been reported over the years is indeed an actual species of an undiscovered ape–like creature. Comparison Of Animal Farm And Moby Dick Animals are a staple of childhood–– we are surrounded by them from birth into adulthood; hence, the overwhelming mountain of stuffed animals and picture books sifted through at our transition into maturity. Notably, animals appear in a variety of works, from children's literature to classics like George Orwell's Animal Farm and Herman Melville's Moby–Dick. Recently, the scientific community has obsessed itself with identifying a clear, distinctive boundary between humans and animals, while the literary world has challenged scientific thought by blurring the boundaries between the two. In fact, several pieces of literature attempt to eradicate any similarities by presenting readers with a blend of human and animal characters who serve a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, in Scene Eight, Eugene O'Neill introduces a true animal character: a large ape, who is the ultimate demise of Yank. In an attempt to connect with his supposed "kind", Yank releases the ape and unfortunately, the ape attacks him and leaves him in the cage to die. It is an ironic death, yet symbolizes the boundary between humans and animals because an animal was able to take the life of an "ever–superior" human. The interaction causes readers to question whether or not there is a clear boundary between humans and animals because an animal is able to take the entire essence of a human away from us: life. Gabriel García Márquez comments on the abilities of humans and animals in his popular short story, "A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings", by introducing readers to a humanimal: a character who is both human and animal. The character is presented as an angel with exceptional human–like characteristics, so he is greatly criticized by the Church. Mrs. Wright As A Woman 's Culture Of Social Isolation Essay Mrs. Wright in "Trifles," Emily in "A Rose for Emily," and Mildred in "The Hairy Ape" exemplified a woman's culture of social isolation. Condemned in a house alone to worry only about her wifely duties, Mrs. Wright's husband isolated her from the community and past self. Pressured by her father, lover, and her own fear of abandonment, Emily lived a life of isolation from love and her community. Caused by her many years living in the higher class, Mildred felt isolated from the rest of society and the lower class. Mrs. Wright, Miss Emily, and Mildred have all been pushed into seclusion away from general society, in turn causing all three of women to take drastic measures to break their isolation. The three females in "Triffles," "A Rose for Emily," and "The Hairy Ape" demonstrated the negative effect of social isolation. Mrs. Wright suffered from social isolation caused by her husband. When Mr. Hale suggested the family "go in with me on a party telephone," Mr. Wright defended himself by saying he only wanted "peace and quiet" and seemed to not care "what his wife wanted." Even when Mr. Hale explained to Mrs. Wright the reason behind his visit was to ask about the telephone, she laughed, but then looked scared. Some call it Bigfoot and some call it Sasquatch but no matter what its name is everybody wonders, is it real? Most likely if you ask your parents, friends, or family if they have seen the beast, they will say no and that it's just a myth but some believe that Bigfoot is oh so very real. Some believe that the beast is a large person who has been lost in the woods and has never found his way home. Others say that it's some kind of ape and I believe that it's none of those things and that it's something no one has ever scientifically discovered. I almost don't even believe that because unless there is hard proof, how can I really believe? Right now the most convincing proof there is of the existence of Bigfoot is the Patterson film. The film was taken October 19, 1967 by Roger Patterson while on a trip with his friend Bob Gimlin in Washington state near Bluff Creek. It can weight up to 1,000 pounds and it reach higher than eight feet in length (Gaffron, 16). Its footprints tell a lot about Bigfoot as well, from them scientists deduce his extremely wide strides of six to eight feet, the four inch to 24 inch foot size, and the unusual disproportionate width of the ball of its feet (Fahrenbach). With all its obvious differences Bigfoot also shares common traits with primates, for example the hair some bone structure, and a minimum mental capacity. From the United States to China people have reported seeing what they believe is Bigfoot. These encounters may or may not be true; one cannot know for certain the truth of such questionable things, the only thing that can be done is to keep an open mind. The most common sightings occur in remote regions in northern and southern California, by people claiming to see huge, hairy human– like creatures. • 37. Why People Believe In Bigfoot foot Bigfoot is by far one of the most controversial creatures in all of history. Generally, it is described as a large, hairy, ape– like creature. It is reported to have many physical similarities to an ape, however it walks on two legs like us humans. Just as its name clearly states, Bigfoot is said to have very, very large feet. The range of its height is between 6–10 feet tall and it is said to be either brownish or reddish in color. There are many reasons to why people believe in Bigfoot. The most obvious reason is because of the "proof". For hundreds of years people from different nations have claimed to have spotted or found evidence of the beast out in the wild. The first evidence found in Canada was in the year 1811, by a man who is said to have found large footprints in the snow, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One main reason for this is because of the lack of legit proof. The reality is that the vast majorities of Bigfoot sightings are hoaxes which have been proven to be fake. The small percentage of "actual" sightings could easily have been a mistake of seeing some animal on its two legs, or something of that kind. Also, there has never been actual Bigfoot bones or fossils found anywhere. Basically, there isn't enough any solid proof to support the fact that Bigfoot actually exists. Personally, I do not believe that Bigfoot exists. In my opinion, the photographs and video footage people have captured are incredibly blurry and not very clear to see whether it is an actual beast or a human in some sort of costume. The evidence that Bigfoot exists is too shaky for me to believe in a creature this controversial. There are no historical facts that show that a creature like Bigfoot had ever existed. Yank as a Modern Day Oedipus in O' Neill's Play, The Hairy Ape The representation of tragedy today has adapted itself to more humanistic, base and symbolic concerns. Often, they are commentaries on society just as much as they are on the nature of man. Although O' Neill insists that his play "The Hairy Ape" is not a tragedy, but rather a dark comedy, the play follows the definition of a tragedy. The basic points that make up a tragedy still remain the same, even if they have to be slightly modified to be relevant to today's audience. • 47. The Theme Of Alienation In Eugene O Neill's The Hairy Ape 1. Introduction The themes of alienation and identity quest were one of the major themes when it comes to writers of the 20th century, no matter which genre they belonged. They usually used their abilities and techniques to criticize the society, emphasizing the idea of dehumanizing men that came with industrialism, blaming it for the alienation of the individual from society. Eugene O'Neill, among many other writers, was also concerned with the notion of enslaving the working class by capitalists, and the effect it had, depriving them and giving them the feeling of low self–esteem. It was inevitable that such changes will bring the feeling of oppression as well, since moral and materialistic values shifted and everything turned upside down, eventually brining emptiness and lack of security, losing the faith both in humanity and God. O'Neill strongly criticized the capitalist system, fighting for the idea that it should stand for workers, not against them. Karl Marx, dealing with the theme of alienation for many years as well, also criticized society divided into social classes within the capitalism, which turned the man into a mechanistic part, eventually estranging him from the humanity, and claimed that the result of being unable to determine one's own destiny, actions and ... Similarities And Differences Between Apes And Humans Question 1 The superfamily includes all apes and humans, the family includes great apes and humans, the subfamily includes chimpanzees, bonobos, and humans, and the tribe includes humans. The gibbons are a part of a family called the Hylobatidae family. Other primates are involved in four taxa, the superfamily, family, subfamily, and tribe. These taxa separate primates by evolutionary traits in each taxa. The superfamily's taxon is called Hominoidea, the family's is called Hominidae, the subfamily's is called Homininae, and the tribe's is called Hominini. The gibbons are a part of another family called the Hylobatidae family. The Hylobatidae and Hominidae families have developmental significance in that they have shoulder sockets which ... Gorillas are vegetarian but all eat some insects and small animals. Gorillas can climb trees but spend most of their time on the ground where they walk on their knuckles and feet. Like the orangutans they reproduce slowly; most have their first child after age nine and have children about every four years. Chimpanzees also have three subspecies, one found in west Africa, one in central Africa, and one in east Africa. These species have subtle differences in appearance. They also exhibit sexual dimorphism but it is less extreme than gorillas. The male generally weights between 90–130 pounds, and the female weighs between 70 and 100 pounds. They are also mainly vegetarian, but fruit is a bigger part of their diet than gorillas. Bonobos are closely related to chimpanzees and exhibit slight sexual dimorphism. The males weigh 86 pounds, and the females weigh 68 pounds. They live in rainforests and eat vegetation and insects. Both of these species walk on their feet and palms. • 53. The Human Nature Of Animal Border The human–animal border is something people have been fascinated with for years. Humans are taught at a younger at that there is supposed to be a separation between humans and animals, but as the years have gone on this border has started to dissipate. Humans now relate to animals more than ever before. Kids idolize them because of the movies and television shows, and adults turn to animals in times of great need. Animals have become more like humans which poses the question: does this border even exist anymore? Over time live action animal shows have become very popular, and people are willing to spend large sums of money to see exotic animals up close and personal. It doesn't matter if it is a lion, elephant or horse. People want to experience the exoticism that they cannot get on a daily basis. Also, plays that have humans portraying animals have become increasingly popular over the last century. All of these events have caused the human animal border to be extremely blurred because it is hard to distinguish between humans and animals when the two are now so closely related. In the following paragraphs, there will be several live action animal acts and plays that will be used to show how the human animal border is disappearing. (216) (transition)Two shows that perfectly depict how the border is disappearing are Zingaro, which is an equestrian dance theater performance, and Equus, which is a play about a troubled young boy and his disturbing journey with horses. • 55. Persuasive Essay On The Skunk Ape Remember when everybody was obsessed with Bigfoot?! Well, it appears that the newest obsession is the Skunk Ape. You probably pictured an animal that is literally half skunk and have ape, not quite. It is a big, hairy walking ape. Although the United States National Park Service says that skunk apes are a hoax, it's obvious that they are real because there are pictures and articles that prove that they do exist. The skunk ape is a hominid cryptid; It is a very tall animal. The males can be up to seven feet tall and weigh 350 pounds. The females can grow up to six feet and weigh up to 250 pounds (Shealy). Both genders seem to be strong animals. They are considered a bipedal animal since they have two feet and each foot has five toes (Nickell). It is said that they smell horrible. The following excerpt describes the skunk ape's particular smell, "...distinguished as "smelly," ... "rancid, putrid odor," like "that of rotten food and dead animal" ... having "the usual scent of cabbage and rotten eggs" (Nickell). They smell like this because they hang out in swamps with other nasty creatures. As far as their habitat, they are found throughout Florida. They occupy places like the Everglades, swamps, alligator caves or national parks. According to a web article, "They have been spotted as far north as Tallahassee and as far south as Lostman's River" (Shealy). It's crazy to think that they could be so close to us. Essay about Methods of Characterization in The Hairy Ape Methods of Characterization in The Hairy Ape Eugene Gladstone O'Neill was born October 16, 1888, to Irish–American parents in New York City. His mother, Ella O'Neill, reserved and genteel (Sheaffer 15), came from a prosperous Cleveland family. His father, James O'Neill, from a poor family, was an actor who became synonymous with Dumas' Count of Monte Cristo, a role he performed over 3000 times (Sheaffer 8). Driven by fear of poverty, James worked nonstop and constantly tried his hand at get–rich–quick schemes, such as buying and selling real estate. Eugene had one older brother James. He won two more for Anna Christie (1922) and Strange Interlude (1928) and one posthumously for Long Day's Journey into Night (1957). In 1929, O'Neill divorced Agnes and married Carlotta Monterey, his third and final wife. O'Neill received the Nobel Prize for literature in 1936, recognition of his work as possibly America's most influential dramatist. Later in his life he developed Parkinson's disease which severely hampered his ability to write. In November 1953, O'Neill developed pneumonia. Exhausted, he was confined to a room in a Boston hotel. Shortly before he died, he sat up and cried, "I knew it, I knew it! Born in a [hotel room] and dying in a hotel room!" (Sheaffer 24). He died November 27. The Hairy Ape (1921) chronicles "the social snobbishness" (Carpenter 31) Eugene O'Neill encountered during his stints as a crewmember on passenger liners to and from Europe. For The Hairy Ape, O'Neill took cues from the expressionists and "employed [techniques] of anti–realism" such as "the conscious use of symbolism, the use of masks, and other techniques which would suggest the sharp division between the surface reality and the subconscious mind" (Carpenter 52). • 59. Hairless Hypothesis Why do humans have no fur? The question of why humans became hairless has been a highly debated topic for centuries. Many theories and hypothesis have been produced to account for why humans have no fur; some are supported whilst others have been heavily criticised, none have been generally accepted. Questions surrounding the subject include "why have humans retained head and pubic hair?" and "why do females have less hair in comparison to males?" Three leading theories include the body cooling hypothesis, the aquatic ape hypothesis and the parasitic hypothesis. In this essay, I will present and evaluate some of these theories and attempt a conclusion as to why humans shed their fur. Introduction Humans possess a unique and unusual trait found ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Parasites not only cause irritation and discomfort, but also carry viruses and diseases which could prove to be fatal. Hairlessness would reduce parasitic load therefore reducing the likelihood of diseases, viruses, infections and discomfort brought on by the parasites. This theory was first put forth by Belt. However Charles Darwin (1888) rejected this hypothesis because it doesn't explain why only humans lost their hair as ectoparasites are a problem to all primates. Human intelligence grew as humans evolved, enabling humans to build fires, make shelters and produce clothes, which could be washed or changed if infested with parasites. This meant that humans were able to shed their hair, reducing ectoparasites while avoiding exposure to the sun, cold and other weather conditions. The only other example of this theory is the naked mole rat, which is the only other mammal that has no fur and that doesn't live in an aquatic environment. The naked mole rat lives underground so has no threat from exposure to sun and UV radiation. There is expected to be a high number of parasites living in these colonies of naked mole rats however, their climate tends to regulate the negative effect this would have on them; making hairlessness feasible for this ... I will be writing about A Rose for Emily by William Faulkner, The Hairy Ape by Eugene O'Neill, and The Open Boat by Stephen Crane. All of these authors' stories use setting to encompass the idea of freedom. Each author has a different perspective on liberty and they all express it differently through their writing. In each story the main character is trapped, either literally or metaphorically. They can all achieve freedom from their situations, but there are obstacles that stop them from reaching their goal. If she leaves the house she would have nowhere to go; all of the people in the town would look down on her and shun her because she is not wealthy anymore. She could move away, but she would not be able to survive own her own; she has always had her dad and the servant to do everything for her. In The Open Boat, the men are phased with a lose–lose situation, unlike Miss Emily. She could either stay in the house until she dies, which she did, or take a chance and achieve freedom. The men, on the other hand, are in a tight spot, because either way they could die. Bigfoot sightings have spread throughout the United States and the world. Our fascination with this creature have spiraled into almost mass hysteria among people to find and prove this creature is real. I decided to observe and analyze the film Bigfoot. To name some of these theorists and concepts such as, Mary Douglas theory of dirt, Aristotle's conceptualization of reproduction, Freud's uncanny and the double, and Ann Ratcliff's difference between terror and horror. Despite the terrible and cheesy 1970's effects this movie is actually enjoyable to watch and the perfect movie for analyzing the theoretical concepts we have learned throughout the semester. The film was actually shot in undisclosed mountain wilderness locations where Bigfoot was alleged to have been sighted.
