Main area of activity
I will be using a fanzine to get the information across
Target Audience target audience for the zine would be people who are interested in squatting and
leftist ideologies.
Rationale: My final major project for last year was a documentary set up to find out about skating
in my local area, although I am doing print now the video has still taught me important information
on how to conduct interview. I have also experimented in interviews this year which has extended
my knowledge on interviews. What I have learned about interviews is to get the person being
interviewed to incorporate the question into their answer and to ask questions that can give a story
behind the answer, so you are not just left with simple sentences answers. I think these two are
the most important for my fan zine.
Project Concept: I will be making a zine that focuses on leftist ideas like squatting or protesting. It
will be filled with things like tips on protests or squatting or anything else, what I have learned,
photos and art. The zine will appeal to those who are interested in those things. I will make the
zine handmade and will probably use a typewriter font to add to the diy ness of the whole project. I
think that the research i will need for the zine would be something on what zines are popular
nowadays, zines that are similar to my subject and if there are any similarities between those, how
zines are formatted and their layout. I think this would help me so I could see if it would be
interesting and who it would appeal to. I will also conduct primary research on if anybody reads
zines what they like about zines and some stuff on what they are interested in to do with the zine I
am doing like opinions on squatting or what things they would protest for or if there are any popular
protests, they have heard about. This will help me on the content for the zine.
How will the project be evaluated and reviewed:
I will evaluate the work by asking for feedback to people who have read the zine this would be
asking questions on what they like on the aesthetic side but also the informational side. I will also
self-reflect. This will develop my media studies by helping me have the most perfect work.
