1. EVALUATION QUESTION 1
In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and
conventions of real media products?
2. COVER PAGE
• The masthead at the top of the page follows conventions of most
magazines.
• The main cover line is larger than the rest of the article on the page so
that it stands out on cover. This makes it easy for the readers to know
what the main article is & to grab their attention.
• Direct address from the image is conventional as it grabs the readers
attention.
• The issue number, date, price and barcode are following convention
with the small font size. This is so it doesn’t overpower the main
articles.
3. COVER PAGE (2)
• The faded image is not conventional because normally, a medium
shot is used and the image would take up the whole page. I placed
the image on the right-hand side to make it clear for readers to see
the facial features.
• The poster giveaway is a subtle ‘attention grabber’ to the audience
as they can get a free gift when purchasing the magazine.
• The banners at the top & bottom of the cover show more articles
which gives readers a larger insight into what to expect throughout
the magazine.
4. CONTENTS PAGE
• The colour scheme keeps a professional tone and helps to build up
the brand image.
• The subheadings used a conventional for magazines & also give an
easy way for readers to distinguish between the articles within the
magazine.
• The multiple images give the reader a clear link between a few of
the articles.
• The use of the editor letter and image provides some background
information on this music magazine.
5. CONTENTS PAGE (2)
• The ‘CONTENTS’ title at the top of the page makes it clear for the
audience to distinguish between the pages.
• The issue and date number are yet again on the page to make it clear to
the reader exactly what issue they are reading. (This is useful for the
regular readers or those who have subscriptions with a magazine)
• The magazine title at the top left of the page is placed there as a
continuation of the magazines brand identity.
6. DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD
• The grab quote gives the reader a quick idea
of what to expect before reading article & it
also presents the personality/ lifestyle of the
artist.
• The written text of the article is in 3 columns
on both pages, which is conventional due to
the rule of three.
• The colour scheme of black, white and red
helps the articles’ audience to see brand
image throughout the magazine.
7. DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD (2)
• The main heading is larger than the rest of the
text on the page. This is so that it stands out
on the page, clear for the audience to see.
Also, the font style matches that on the cover
which shows the link between the main cover
line & this article.
• The introduction to the article helps the
reader to learn more about the article before
even reading it. This helps for the audience to
see if they want to read the interview.
