7. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt
in the progression from it to the full product?
After looking back at my preliminery task I feel that my creativity skills have improved
dramatically. I was initially very pleased with my sixth form magazine, but, looking back I
have realisd how much my skills have improved. It is obvious because my music magazine
looks much more professional and it fits the target demographic a lot better.
I had never used photoshop before but it is clear that my skills have improved dramatically.
My sixth form magazine looks very simplistic and the skills I used were very basic, but I
developed and used different skills to make my magazine look a lot more professional.
Although I felt my first magazine was average my second magazine definitely shows a
huge improvement.
Another thing that has improved is my photgraphy skills. The shots are so much more
professional. The lighting setup is better in the music magazine. This makes it look more
professional because the photos are higher quality.
In terms of branding I have realised that it is important to have a running theme throughout
the magazine just to keep the sense of brand identity and to make it unique. Branding is
not only affected by the audience but also the music itself. In terms of indie music, there
are more likely to be unique fonts and logos and the bands involved will typically consist of
white males, however females are becoming more popular in indie music. In an indie
magazine there would more typically be left wing views as most indies associate
themselves with being working class and stereotypically they have left wing views. I have
learnt that timing and planning is key in creating a product such as mine. In the first
magazine I did not plan as much as I could have and I improvised the majority of the
magazine whereas with my final product I made a very in depth plan about where
everything would go and I followed it but if it didn’t look right I changed it and moved it
around. I am very proud with my final product.
