About the Conference 
The Indian economy as well as the earning from exports is highly influenced by the textile industry. India is considered to be the second largest producer of textile across the globe. Indian textile industry is the second largest provider of employment after agriculture and provides direct employment to over 35 million people. Current scenario suggests that any development in the textile industry will directly reflect onto the Indian economy. 
To celebrate its Platinum Jubilee, the Textile Association (India) – South Gujarat Unit organized “11th International & 69th All India Textile Conference” on 20th and 21st December, 2013 at the Taj Gateway Hotel, Surat. The conference focused on the theme - “Indian Textiles – Global Prospects and Perceptions”. Top experts from Textile and Apparel sectors from all over the country gathered to share their valuable knowledge. In the event, learned technocrats from across the globe shared their experience and knowledge about the emerging machineries, technologies and products with high growth potentials in global textile markets. The event observed participation from more than 600 delegates both from India and across the world.

Welcome Address by Mr. Girishchanda Bhat; President, TAI South Gujarat Unit 
Mr. Girishchanda Bhatt welcomed all the dignataries on the dias as well as participants across the world and addressed that the event is aimed to provide a strong platform for the expets in the textile industry to share the knowledge, experience and vision for the betterment of textile industry in India. 
Address by Mr. Rajanikant Bachkaniwala; Vice President, Man Made Textile Research Association 
Mr. Rajanikant Bachkaniwala provided a brief introduction to the Textile Association, India (TAI) and said that TAI is one of the largest national body among other several professionals of textile in India. On the occasion of Platinum Jubilee, TAI is geared up to spread it arms and embrace new opportunities. 
Address by Mr. D.R. Mehta; National President, TAI 
Mr. D. R. Mehta gave a brief introduction of TAI activities, current industry scenario and global economy. He informed that Indian textile industry is the backbone of the economy and contributed about 14

percent to industrial production, 4 percent to the country’s GDP and 12 percent to the country s export earnings in 2011. Indian textile industry is expected to grow at an average annual rate of 11 percent between 2011 and 2020 to touch USD 140 billion.

Textile Association (India) conferred Honorary Membership to Mr. Praffulchandra Shah, Chairman, Garden Silk Mills Ltd. for his contribution to the Indian Textile Industry. Textile Association (India) conferred Honorary F.T.A (Fellowship of the Textile Association) to Prof. G.K. Tyagi, Principal, Director at MLV Govt. Textile & Engineering College, Bhilwara. 
Following the award presentation, Mr. Hrishikesh Mafatlal, Chief Guest, released first edition of the book “Textiles and Environment”. 
Address by Mr. Hrishikesh Mafatlal; Chairman, Mafatlal Industries Ltd. 
Mr. Hrishikesh Mafatlal shared an overeview of the industry. In his address, he reiterated that India remains at the forefront in textiles. Key factors for contributing to this are innovation, eco-friendliness, social compliance, skill development and R&D. In view of various facets of the developments, he mentioned that technology is the key factor for growth. He pointed out that another important aspect of the growth towards excellence is sustainability factor, which is achieved through the recycling.

  • 3. 3 About the Conference The Indian economy as well as the earning from exports is highly influenced by the textile industry. India is considered to be the second largest producer of textile across the globe. Indian textile industry is the second largest provider of employment after agriculture and provides direct employment to over 35 million people. Current scenario suggests that any development in the textile industry will directly reflect onto the Indian economy. To celebrate its Platinum Jubilee, the Textile Association (India) – South Gujarat Unit organized “11th International & 69th All India Textile Conference” on 20th and 21st December, 2013 at the Taj Gateway Hotel, Surat. The conference focused on the theme - “Indian Textiles – Global Prospects and Perceptions”. Top experts from Textile and Apparel sectors from all over the country gathered to share their valuable knowledge. In the event, learned technocrats from across the globe shared their experience and knowledge about the emerging machineries, technologies and products with high growth potentials in global textile markets. The event observed participation from more than 600 delegates both from India and across the world. Address by Mr. Rajanikant Bachkaniwala; Vice President, Man Made Textile Research Association Mr. Rajanikant Bachkaniwala provided a brief introduction to the Textile Association, India (TAI) and said that TAI is one of the largest national body among other several professionals of textile in India. On the occasion of Platinum Jubilee, TAI is geared up to spread it arms and embrace new opportunities. Address by Mr. D.R. Mehta; National President, TAI Mr. D. R. Mehta gave a brief introduction of TAI activities, current industry scenario and global economy. He informed that Indian textile industry is the backbone of the economy and contributed about 14
  • 5. 5 percent to industrial production, 4 percent to the country’s GDP and 12 percent to the country s export earnings in 2011. Indian textile industry is expected to grow at an average annual rate of 11 percent between 2011 and 2020 to touch USD 140 billion. Textile Association (India) conferred Honorary F.T.A (Fellowship of the Textile Association) to Prof. G.K. Tyagi, Principal, Director at MLV Govt. Textile & Engineering College, Bhilwara. Following the award presentation, Mr. Hrishikesh Mafatlal, Chief Guest, released first edition of the book “Textiles and Environment”. Address by Mr. Hrishikesh Mafatlal; Chairman, Mafatlal Industries Ltd. Mr. Hrishikesh Mafatlal shared an overeview of the industry. In his address, he reiterated that India remains at the forefront in textiles. Key factors for contributing to this are innovation, eco-friendliness, social compliance, skill development and R&D. In view of various facets of the developments, he mentioned that technology is the key factor for growth. He pointed out that another important aspect of the growth towards excellence is sustainability factor, which is achieved through the recycling.
