Representation Of African American Films
The medium of film and television have not been effectively coding the many American conflicts of the past decades. The roles of superheroes, villains,
and antiheroes have always been used in every film and media directly or indirectly, introducing which is which. Since the beginning of modern film,
many movies' plots and conflicts have revolved around a protagonist or several protagonists faced with an opposing force that is disturbing the order of
things, usually another individual bent on malicious intent. A battle between the good and the bad, the heroic and the villainous. Unfortunately, the
conflicts between good and bad have not been effectively introduced through this medium. Throughout history, the definition of what is good and what
is bad has also changed slightly as a result of the effects of the Sexual Revolution and the Judeo–Christian ethic, and this has indeed been reflected in
the more modern movies of today.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a result, politics, most notably the presidential election, through the medium of television has become very confusing and has turned audience's
attention to subjects that do not matter much. In addition, films about racism, particularly towards African Americans, serve only as propaganda to
feed "SJW" rhetoric into the minds of Americans. Furthermore, the lack of films and media coverage of educational reform has made audiences
uninformed about this issue. On the other hand, the medium of film has succeeded in providing an effective discussion of income inequality in
America. Although film and media has succeeded in providing accurate information about income inequality in America, they have failed in effectively
coding the conflicts of politics, racism, and education

Political Elements Of Superheros
Many comic book superheroes were born in an era of highly intense international tension. The genre of Superheros in American comic books revolve
around adventures of powerful superheros using superhuman abilities or weapons, as they act on personal morals through violence. The political
elements are evident in the plot: the heroes are in a war with a dangerous enemy, and their morals justify violence to 'protect' those who are in danger.
As well as it is a form of entertainment, comic books as a media influenced many, especially young boys and men.
The debut of Green Lantern by DC Comics on 1959 featured Hal Jordan, a test pilot who recieved a magic ring to from an alien to be the protector of
space sector 2814. To connect that with the Cold war, Soviet Union's Sputnik was launched on 1957 – many politicians exploited this as they spoke of
serious consequences this could lead to, unless America took measures to inhance their science and technology. In Green Lantern, Hal Jordan is speaks
that "This flightless trainer will help turn out space pilots of the future!"before being carried away by an alien light to become a hero. The Space Race

Another hero that was then created was the Incredible Hulk, 1962. The Hulk, or an atomic scientist named Bruce Banner is exposed to gamma ray to
save a kid, which turned his body into a green monster. The gamma ray exposion could have been stopped, but the experiment was sabotaged by
Banner's assistant, Igor, who was actually a Soviet spy. Igor's orders came from 'The Gargoyle', the leader of all spies who wanted to take Amerian

Marvel Comics and Marvel S Turnaround
Marvel Enterprises, Inc.
(b) Why was Marvel's turnaround so successful? Would you characterize that success as a fluke? Or do you view it as sustainable? Why? How?
Marvel's success is definitely not a fluke and its business model is very sustainable. Because Marvel's new strategy chose to monetize the content
library via licensing characters for use with media products. In an era during which mass media is so important in people's life, only one media tool –
publishing is not strong enough to expand Marvel's influence to consumers. Comic books can only target a very limited market that most is composed
of male teenagers and young adults from 13 to 23 years old. It is very difficult to expand this traditional market significantly. ... Show more content on

In the past, toy business is just an annex to publishing industry. Not many efforts were invested in toys, even not mentioning strategic plans. Now toy
industry is the second profit maker in Marvel, generating over $20 billion in sales in 2003. The toy business is very promising in the future. However
its percentage in revenue will still keep stable or slightly decrease as publishing will do, because licensing has such a strong force to grow, while toy
industry competition is too fierce to make further achievements.
(d) To what extent is Marvel's success due to only one character, Spider–Man? How can Marvel develop its lesser–known characters? There is no doubt
that, to some extent, Marvel's success is due to Spider–Man since 1960s. However, the company still fell over in 1990s with such a successful superhero
. Exploiting marketing strategies stretched out consumers' interest. The Marvel's new CEO, Peter Cuneo, restarted the company with negative assets,
and turned the company around. Spider–Man resuscitated in comic–book publishing. In the Publishing Division, Marvel's 64.65% revenue is from
Spider–Man in the second half year of 2003 (See Appendix A Figure 1). In the movie box office revenue, Spider–Man collected 33.75% revenue in the
US market and 37.23% in the world market, ranking the highest in Marvel movies (See Appendix A Figure 2). Spider–Man

The Fantastic Four As A Family: The Strongest Bond Of All

Ryall, Chris, and Scott Tipton. "The Fantastic Four as a Family: The Strongest Bond of All." Morris, Tom, and Matt Morris. Superheroes and
Philosophy. Chicago and La Salle: Open Court, 2005.118–29. Print.
Chris Ryall and Scott Tipton discuss the importance family has on not only superheroes but also on the people of society. They show the importance of
family through the representation of The Fantastic Four and their need for each other. Using Aristotle's "three bases of friendship," they further
explain what makes The Fantastic Four family and how the family distinguishes from other super hero teams. To conclude, the authors reiterate the
difference between a friend of utility and a friendship of virtue by clarifying that a "complete friendship" is made when both individuals love each
other and seek only to benefit one another. Both authors illustrate well the concept that society is like a broken organism that relies on everyone as a
collective to make it whole or one big family.

"With great power comes great responsibility." It's a quote everyone has heard in their life time, and this man is the mastermind behind the phrase. In
Stan Lee's case he may have created the catchy line as a one off for a character, but never would he of expected to have it end up in dozens of movies
and tv shows spanning decades. Stanley Martin Lieber, later legally changed to his pseudonym name Stan Lee, is the creator of some of the worlds
most recognizable and profitable characters and franchises on the planet to this day through Marvel Comics. To name just a few of these marvelous
characters; Spider–Man, Iron Man, Hulk, The X–Men, Black Panther, and literately 100's more. Lee grew up through a rough period of American

Jack Kirby and Joe Simon briefly decide to leave the company. This gives Stan Lee free range to create characters and story lines as he pleases.
After a long gray period of watered down comics that people were not enjoying reading or creating Lee makes a bold move based on the opinion of
his wife, Joan Lee, who sees how much they are struggling. He pushes his higher ups to allow him to start producing comics outside the CCA. They
hesitantly allow him to try this risky business move. This turns out to be just the step Timely needed as it saved them from bankruptcy.Fantastic Four is
published pushing them out in front of their only leading competitor DC for the first time in history. The success of Fantastic Four brings upon the
X–Men, Hulk, Iron Man, and the rise of multi cultural/ethnic characters to the comic world. Timely promptly rebrands to Marvel Comics, and the
Silver Age of Comics comes to a close and the Bronze Age begins. The Bronze Age (1970's/1985') restored the comic culture to America and slowly
began spreading around the globe as well. As they evolved Stan Lee pushed boundaries right along with it. Lee is largely credited for being the person
who re–envisioned the very structure of how heroes are portrayed and wrote. He strongly believed the character under the mask is just as or more
important than the hero itself. This shift in direction changed the entire way visual story telling was perceived at the time. Now characters weren't just
super, they were human too. Relatable people with struggles, relationships, and even everyday jobs. He also strived to set the majority of Marvels
stories in the real world and not in fictional settings. This allowed for relatable fathomable individuals and the creation of Marvels biggest triumph

How Stan Lee Turned the World into True Believers
How Stan Lee Turned the World into True Believers As humans, we are always fascinated with the extraordinary and the fantastical. Whether its
fantasies, science–fiction tales, or comic books, people have always been drawn to the adventures of men and women with amazing powers and
colorful costumes fighting evil and saving the world. Stan Lee is often considered to be the father of the modern superhero, and it's not hard to see
why. Even if you've never heard of Stan Lee, you've definitely heard of the myriad of cultural icons he's created throughout the years. Spider–Man, Iron
Man, the Incredible Hulk, the Fantastic Four, the Avengers, Thor, the X–Men, as well as so many others are all the creations of Stan Lee. Lee created
so many realistic characters that combined typical human emotions and traits with their super powers. Lee's personal writing style, attention to
detail, and his revolutionary ideas changed the idea of the superhero forever; he created ideals and themes that have been adapted by others as well
as standing the test of time to be relevant even to this day. Born Stanley Martin Lieber, Stan Lee was born in New York City on December 28, 1922.
According to Gale's Biography in Context, Lee grew up during the Great Depression and had a variety of jobs while in school to support his family

Time To Take Charge: My Definition Of A Leader
Time to Take Charge Keep going! I know you can do it! That is what a person that has the trait or characteristic for leadership can do, push people
to do what they want. Leadership is a thing or activity people do to show what they like to do. An example of leadership is when a student sees a
couple people struggling in class and helps them or tells the teacher that a couple people need help. Another example is a person does something
in a story or in real life to give someone leadership. People like firefighters or policemen also use leadership in their everyday lives. We use this
term in everyday life to describe what someone does to impress people in a crowd and we kind of use it correctly. A definition of leadership is
"Position or function of a leader, a person that guides or directs a group"(Leadership). My definition of leadership is a person that takes charge and
does there best at what they are doing to help people. What leadership is not is something that is like loyalty. Loyalty is something you get when
people trust you and what you are doing. Leadership is not to be confused with loyalty because Leadership takes charge and loyalty shows a person
you can trust. A second word that can be closely related with leadership is dictatorship. Dictatorship is a person who thinks they can take... Show more

Fantastic Four Essay
Marvel's Fantastic Four debuted in '61 as a superhero comic book series that zeroed in on the flawed loving and familial bond shared among its
characters. Given that this context and the comic book series' main focus on the "problems of human existence hindered with their crimefighting
capabilities" (Genter 2007), it's hard to read the significance of matriarch Susan 'Sue' Storm (Invisible Girl then later dubbed as Invisible Woman) far
from of the understandings of the second wave feminism. She is a wife to Reed Richards (Mister Fantastic), an older sister to Johnny Storm (the
Human Torch), and a colleague and caretaker to Ben Grimm (the Thing), Invisible Woman's power (the ability to become invisible) could be seen as a
message on the changing cultural visibility of women's rights in the '60s. Laura Mattoon D'Amore (2008) purposed that Sue Storm figuratively
expressed the '50s suburban housewife, "under–compensated and unnoticed of all her victories,"invisible and unappreciated in a world of and for men."
Following these notions within Fantastic Four comic books through the 60s, Laura Mattoon D'Amore explains that Invisible Woman's power of
invisibility is seen as both literally and symbolically, reflecting and averting the time period's gender norms. Laura Mattoon D'Amore shows this
change from reflection to deflection in '64's Fantastic Four #22, in which Invisible Woman learns to create force fields, staying visible as she undergoes
invisibility onto other characters.

The Silver Age is also recognized to be the superhero era of science. Science would explain any dilemma in the story line and would also be the answer
to how to fix it. Many superhero origins were also based on the idea of science such as the X–Men, Spiderman, and the Fantastic Four gained their
superhuman abilities by genetic mutation. Science topics and factoids also appeared in comics during the Silver Age through comic issues of The
Flash. Each issue contained multiple panels explaining scientific topics that related to the plot line. An example of this would be from The Flash Issue
#140, in which one of Flash's nemeses Heat Wave used a gun–like weapon to transform heat waves into physical bullets. Throughout The Flash Issue
#140, factoids about heat waves were laced within the story line, creating an educational standpoint within comic books. Another significant aspect of
the Silver Age was the international "space race" between the United States and the Soviet Union over usage of satellites and spacecraft in Earth's
atmosphere. The heated topic became inspiration for many storylines to break boundaries both with setting and characters by having storylines take
place in space and having superheroes defending Earth from extraterrestrials (Hatfield 102). The use of outer space and aliens in superhero... Show

Fantastic Four represents the rapid changes in the world such as cultural and scientific.
The main artist responsible for the creation of Fantastic Four is Stan Lee. In Publishers Weekly article it states, "Fantastic Four was co–created by Stan

It was a time where people were marginalized due to their race and skin color. Martin Luther King Jr. played a major role in the civil rights
movement seeking justice and equality for African Americans. He was a very ambitious and a determined man who stood firm and fought for what he
believed in. As a result, the Civil Rights Act of 1964 was issued causing and an end to segregation and prohibiting racial discrimination. The economy
during the 1960s was a time of prosperity with low unemployment rates, and an increase in technological advances.
The social issue Fantastic Four represents is a group of people coming together to accomplish a goal. It encourages team work and it allows them to

The youth in the 1960s resembles much like Fantastic Four. The children from the baby boom after WWII were reaching adulthood, and were shaping

Black Panther Introduction
Culture has many different definitions. Culture could mean someone likes literature, music, food, or art. Culture is a human tool, but the tool can be
very fragile. Culture can change and it can be lost like it is found. Examinations of cultural objects do not tell us much about the culture of the large
society, but it does show us cultural patterns within a certain culture. These objects can show us a certain piece of someone 's culture and what it means
about that particular culture. A cultural object is something that is made by human beings; it just does not come out of nowhere. I... Show more content

This paradigm also takes into account how an audience responds to the cultural object. "The final part of the diamond is the social world, which is
the point in the diamond sees if the object fits in the social world in which it is found" (Griswald 1994). Black Panther was written in 1966. This is
when we were dealing with racism all over the country. Black Panther was the first black superhero ever created. The lines that link these four points
say something very specifically. It states that if you have a cultural object it will always be linked to a creator, receiver, and a social world. You cannot
have one without the other.

Black Panther has special abilities just like any superhero. "Black Panther's knowledge is one of those powers that let the Panther draw the

impossible to relate become easily identifiable to readers new and old since 1944. New York, located in the northeastern part of the United States and

Lee was in the lowest point of his comic book career and was about to change careers. He decided to give it one last go by writing two different
superhero stories: The Fantastic Four and The Amazing Spider–Man. These two stories defied the superhero graphic at the time with the Fantastic Four
being a family turned superhero team and Spider–Man being the first teen superhero that was not a sidekick. Spider–Man put a grand effect on people
as it put a realistic high school student struggling with the loss of his parental figure. The origin of Spider–Man is shown in Amazing Fantasy #15.
Peter Parker was a "hard working honor student" constantly rejected being seen as a nerd. One day, however, Peter is bitten by a radioactive spider
that somehow grants Peter the "proportionate speed, strength and agility of a spider" (Marvel Masterworks: The Amazing Spider–Man). After finding
these powers, Peter later exploits them for himself as a wrestler winning money nightly. One night, a thief is running from a cop with Peter in front of
him. Instead of stopping the thief, Peter arrogantly lets the thief go and tells the cop, "Sorry, pal! That's your job!... From now on I just look out for
number one –– that means –– me!" (Marvel Masterworks: The Amazing Spider–Man). Peter would later find out that the same thief he had let escape

personal differences or opinions the members may have. They highlight the importance of uniting together to achieve a common goal and being
reliable within the team. These moral characteristics were ranked highly among the children, with a significant correlation between the children's own
morals and of the Fantastic Four's (Martin 246). Young boys tend to identify themselves with superheroes, who share their main values, which include

A standard hero "embodies what we believe is best in ourselves. A hero is a standard to aspire to as well as an individual to be admired" (Miczo 4).
The displays of these superheroes emerged as the characters underwent certain transformations, experiences of growth in empathy, and turned towards
the good. They uphold and maintain the public sphere as they operate in complete freedom and for the benefit of others. In later parts of the
Spider–Man series, Peter readiness to forgive and not be bound by his past mistakes but be conditioned by it are what the Fantastic Four also did in
their first issue. They ensure a connection between their identities and facilitate the development in the community, often adding to it and learning from
it. They provide memorable messages and have a significant influence on behavior (Miczo 91–92, 94). It is also good to note that Spider–Man's origin
differs from the Fantastic Four as it was only through the death of someone Peter cared for that becomes the catalyst needed for his transformation
to set himself on the right path of a hero. His origin and trauma towards the guilt of the death of his uncle by the hands of a criminal he could have
stopped (seen and revealed on also page 8 and 11 of "Amazing Fantasy") at the time later conditioned him to be a responsible person (Miczo100–101).

development of children as it nurtures and encourages the heroic narratives of justice and the benefits of

There is nothing amazing about being a wannabe YouTube star, however my neighbor, a tall, greedy, e
–begging, neckbeard seemed to believe
otherwise. His large YouTube channel was an excellent measuring tool for his insatiable ego. He had made a steady living over the years from his
pseudo–intellectual rants covering a wide variety of topics. He also did a fair number of internet challenges so he could get some money from the
high number of views they received. Needless to say, he was a greedy person. He could eat his own weight in cake, and was probably about two
happy meals away from a mobility scooter. He was a chronic narcissist who also owned a podcast with three other people. You've got the man himself,

I cursed under my breath and managed to open the extremely loud, stubborn door. I decided I wouldn't tell my neighbor and let him think it happened
en–route to his house. After two more days, the garage really started to smell badly. It had an unholy odor and I knew immediately what it was. I
was furious, I knew my neighbor had done some prank to me! I had had a feeling this was some "prank" and he was going to take my reaction out
of context and put it out on the internet, for all to see! I approached the rancid box and cut the flaps open. The smell was a wave, like opening an
oven. The stench of urine, fecal matter, and sweat hit me like a truck, and I was forced to retreat into the house. I was ready to dial the police, this
had to be illegal! However, I decided to see what was in the box instead. I wish I hadn't done that. There wasn't some nasty concoction in the box.
My neighbor was in the box. Dead. I called the police, and naturally, they arrested me. They obviously thought I did it since the corpse is in my
garage. Luckily, it was discovered I wasn't involved. In my neighbor's hand laid a camera. They showed me the footage, I'm not sure why they did
but they did. My neighbor was laying in box, telling his fans that he was going to send himself through the mail. He was doing one those annoying
"challenge" videos. He had brought a lot of food and water. His brother closed the lid and presumably dropped him off at the post office. Throughout

The Adventures Of Mr. Obadiah Oldbuck Essay
Dating back to 1841, modern comics have had a long history. Since The Adventures of Mr. Obadiah Oldbuck, which is generally accepted as the first
American comic, comics as a genre of literature has changed both technologically and in perception (Greenberger). Throughout American history,
comics have served as both an influence and a reflection of the time period. As America grew, changed, and experienced major historical events, society
and the ideas within changed along with it.
Many comic historians cite Genovese author and painter Rodolph Töpffer as the first modern comic artist ("Comics Theory"). Töpffer is the
author of a comic titled Histoire de M. Vieux Bois, which was published in 1839. This was eventually translated in 1841 to the first American comic
The Adventures of Mr. Obidiah Oldbuck (Greenberger). Though this was the first comic published in America, it cannot be said to reflect American
history very well since it was not originally written in America. Instead, it was first published in Europe before gaining widespread popularity in the
United States (Töpffer 2014).
Years later in 1894, the first significant recurring comic strip character The Yellow Kid debuted (Greenberger). Created by Richard Outcault, The
Yellow Kid was seen as the beginning of the "Funnies", the name given to comic strips in newspapers at the time ("Comic Theory"). His debut led to
an explosion of merchandising, culminating in the publication of a collection of comic strips in 1897.

Fantastic Four Essay
Over the course of the past few years, Marvel's first family has suffered one devastating defeat after another. In the pages of the once prominent comic
book, the Fantastic Four have endured seemingly endless roster shake–ups, reboots, and uninspiring shifts in creative direction – ultimately leading to a
recent, full–blown canceling of the Fantastic Four books. Essentially, they're a mess, and their parents (Marvel) have washed their hands of them
completely (and we'll get into the understandable reasoning behind it shortly). And, if you, true believer, were hoping a new film development would

a solid wave of momentum – but was stumped in its tracks by a less than thrilling response from fans and critics, alike. Regardless, the film, which

Marvel is better than DC. Without a doubt, I can say that Marvel is a better franchise than DC, for many different reasons. The superheroes Marvel
makes have more solid structure, made so that you can believe that anyone or anything could possibly become a superhero. Exhibit A. Let's compare
Iron Man to Batman, for one they're both rich and have lost their parents, but as known without the armor or fancy gadgets, Tony Stark (Iron Man)
would be a 'genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist' as he said in the Avengers, Bruce Wayne (Batman) would still have his fighting skills and he

Persuasive Essay On Dc Heroes
Just as superheroes fight evildoers, Marvel fights DC. Some say DC is better. After all they're slightly older, they created Superman and Batman.
These are compelling arguments for the supremacy of DC. But the thing is, this battle for supremacy is over before it even began. It's done and Marvel
has won.
DC heroes can't lose because they were never created to fail. DC movies are horrible. Batman vs Superman and Suicide Squad received bad
reviews because they were bad movies. There's a reason DC keeps killing off its own characters, it's the only way to keep them interesting.

Do they always get along? No. Do they always even like each other? Of course not. But they have to, because the fate of the world is a stake. They

does the Flash do? He runs really fast. Alone. And never really seems bothered by that. The closest DC knows to teamwork is the Justice League.
Compared to the X–Men or the Avengers, the Justice League is like a weekend social club.
The loneliest Marvel hero is Spiderman, who is arguably the most DC–like. But amazing as Spiderman is, he's not an easy–going newspaper reporter

Peter Parker Influence On Identity
Furthermore, Peter Parker's character struggles as Spider–Man is also good to note in term of identity as it differs from the Fantastic Four and their
personal identities. The superhero identity is one that is shaped and reshaped through many narratives as it can be a title or persona that is carried
throughout the course of the series. To be asuperhero is to be more than a normal human as this distinction is what makes the genre so compelling
for most readers who understand what actual power does in society. For the norm, it is a force to be feared and aspired to have; for superheroes in
comics, it is the separation between hero and personal responsibility as this adds to the superhero mantle (White 47–48). Likewise to the influence of
childhood development, there is often time a need to reshape one's own identity to meet the demands of similarly shifting and transforming cultures. ...

Superhero comics such as the Fantastic Four and Spider–Man are collective stories and ever–expanding ongoing processes that change with the times

History of Comic Books
The distribution, audience, narrative style, and dramatic content, of comic books were the direct descendants of the pulp magazine. They were called
pulp magazine because they were printed on the cheapest paper for non–costly mass distribution, these publications were as old as newspaper comic
strips. Pulp magazines can be traced to their Civil War–era ancestors, called dime novels. Unlike the funnies, pulp magazines styles were outside of the
mainstream and featured adventure, fantasy, and suspense. In 1933, Harry Wildenberg and Max Gaines took the traditional comic and folded it in half
and then created the first four–color newsprint comic. It would became the new format which is still seen in modern comic books still today.
The biggest rise in comic books was World War II, because the comic had two underling messages at the time that kept the industry alive: social reform
and patriotism. The DC superhero comics implicitly stressed a common interest in public welfare and strong federal government all based its comics
around the Social status of America at the time. While Marvel comics took up the cause of WWII patriotism in the early creation of Captain America, by
showing Captain America punching Hitler. The biggest underling message of comics during the Golden Age is the defense of normal people and good
citizens. After WWII, the energy driving the Golden Age died off, but that didn't mean that the comic book industry was done creating new heroes or
done expanding it

Superhero Worship By ' The Atlantic Virginia Postrel '
In her essay, "Superhero Worship" published in The Atlantic Virginia Postrel discusses how people limit themselves to try to become what they are
not. Although people view celebrity impact on society as positive, Postrel argues that superhero's or celebrities limit ordinary people 's lives because
they strive to be what they can not. The author talks about how the word glamour has changed over the years, and how different the definition has
become. Postrels' definition is "it is an imaginative process that creates a specific, emotional response: a sharp mixture of projection, longing,
admiration, and aspiration. It evokes and audience's hopes and dreams and makes them seem attainable, all the while maintaining enough distance to
sustain the fantasy"(Postrel, 2006 p.2). This definition is spot on in what she is talking about and the present day definition would not make any
sense at all. Today 's definition is the attractive or exciting quality that makes certain people or things seem appealing or special (dictionary.com).
While that definition fits for how people view glamour today, it does not fit in the author 's essay. Postrel talks about how and why people try to be a
superhero or exactly like their favorite celebrity and uses the old definition of glamor to explain it perfectly. Virginia Postrel has a quote that explains
her definition perfectly it says, "glamour is always vulnerable to those who love it" (Postrel, 2006 p.5). What she is talking about is that movies

Factors That Make People Become A Supervillain
I have always thought of superheroes as beings with an unattainable, unnatural level of perfection. They were, to me at least, those who were faster
than a speeding bullet and more powerful than a locomotive. There is, however, more to superheroes (and by association, supervillains) than that. I've
found there are several factors that make someone become a superhero or a supervillain. The world needs saving, and knowing what it takes to become
a superhero or a supervillain, makes it easier to support the former and avoid the latter.
It's important to acknowledge that as humans, we are prone to divide the world into an "us" versus "them" situation. The "them" category is seen as
the one with more negative, undesirable attributes. For instance vampires, demons, evil Gods, they're all viewed as "them"; they're different so they're
the bad guys. Whenever one feels noticeably different, it leads them to think of themselves as part of the "them" category. For someone really smart,
for example, growing up with children not as smart or gifted in a particular way, they will feel different. The Thing, from the movie TheFantastic Four

In contrary to popular belief, costumes aren't only for superheroes and Halloween. Costumes communicate something about the person wearing it. It
also communicates something about the role they're playing. People form impressions based on what they glean from the costume. The same way
good–looking people are seen as kind, and well groomed job applicants as more competent, we see Superman, with his square jaw, his powerful
posture, and his colorful latex suit as a superhero. Similarly, people tend to view old and unattractive people as unfriendly, the same way they see, say,
nose–less Lord Voldemort as the epitome of unfriendliness. Catwoman, in her daunting leather suit, communicates style, sensuality and

Influence Of Social Status On Comics
Comic Books Changing With The Times
Growing up the biggest dream of mine was to wake up one day and have a super power. I would be able to help defend the world, save people from
bad guys, and make the world a better place. Sadly, I ended up just going to college and studying to be a mechanical engineer, but the dream is still
alive! Even now while going through my studies, comic books still intrigue me and one of the aspects that has me the most curious is the sudden
shift recently taking place in Marvel comics. Iron man has been replaced by a young African American girl, Thor is female, and the mantle of
Spiderman now goes to a homosexual teenage boy. Society has been drastically changing as time has gone on, and Marvel is starting to follow suit
with changing some of their main comics. I have researched the impact of social status on comics in the past versus how they are now to determine
how the audience is receiving these changes, either positively or negatively. When Marvel first started making stories for the public, they followed a
generic pattern of mildly successful monster, romance, and western stories to reach their audience. Around the sixties, when fear of the Cold War was
at a high, it got the creative juices at marvel flowing and led to some of the most successful and longest running comic series. (O'neal 2016) The first
to appear was the Fantastic Four that received their powers from going into space in an attempt to beat Russia in the space race. The Cold

Movie Analysis : Film Revenue
The past decade has seen superhero movies rise to box office dominance. This is a new trend. Batman and Superman movies found success early, but
the surprise blockbusters Spider–man and X–men at the turn of the millennium revealed that the market for comic based entertainment was not yet
saturated (Fritz, 2014). Looking back a decade and a half later, consumer demand has clearly spoken: six of the last ten highest grossing movies were
based on comic books: Guardians of the Galaxy, Iron Man 3, The Avengers, Transformers: The Revenge of the Fallen, The Dark Knight, and
Spider–Man 3 (Lev–Ram, 2015). Today, studios have demonstrated confidence that this trend will continue. For example, movies set in the Marvel
Cinematic Universe are scheduled out until at least 2019, with Inhumans set for release in June of that year (Marvel, 2015).
Film revenue is only part of the profit equation. A successful blockbustersuperhero generates interest in its characters, returning massive profits from
merchandising and licensing (Schedeen, 2015). Video games, television spin–offs, collectible toys, apparel, books, and home dГ©cor are just a few
examples that come to mind. These products, in turn, act as advertisement for the films themselves and future films in the franchise by increasing
visibility (Schedeen, 2015). While this works well for franchises in which Marvel owns all rights to the characters, Marvel transferred the film rights
to several of their comics via "a series of

Rhetorical Analysis Of Shampoo Advertising
Shampoo advertisements use Visual Rhetorical appeals to convince consumers to buy a certain shampoo. The Fantastic Four exemplify the way that
these shampoo ads use rhetorical appeals to sell products. The Fantastic Four made it apparent that Shampoo commercials bundle a set of values and
false hopes with their product which allows them to be successful. They made appeals by using characters, setting, and actions these ads successfully
appealed to ethos, pathos, and logos, revealing why shampoo ads are successful. There are two different ads, a L'Oreal commercial and a Head and
Shoulders commercial, with two major distinctions. In the L'Oreal commercial the person narrating the ad is a woman and the character that appears is
a woman. In the Head and Shoulders ad both the character and narrator is a man. The L'Oreal d shows a L'Oreal shampoo bottle sitting by a pool. It
then cuts to the shampoo being squirted into a hand and ends with the bottle being held by a happy consumer. Throughout the L'Oreal commercial a
woman's voice explains all of the benefits that come with using L'Oreal. The Head and Shoulders shows a man holding a Head and Shoulders
shampoo bottle followed by the same man catching the bottle multiple times. The imagery ends with the shampoo placed on the edge of a bathtub. The
Head and Shoulders ad is fully narrated by a man. The narrator repeatedly says that the shampoo cannot be dropped. The first defining element that
both ads used were characters. The

The X Men Series, And Avengers : Age Of Ultron
In today's film culture, superhero films are very popular genre. Yet, woman are still objectified, over–sexualized, and given roles with little or no real
merit within this genre. This has been shown since the beginning of the Wonder Woman comics and has progressed to the films we have today. Films
like Supergirl, Catwoman, the Fantastic Four series, the X–Men series, and Avengers: Age of Ultron show these issues within our film culture. Their
physical appearance, clothing, and sex appeal have more importance than the actual characters themselves. The first woman to be called a superhero,
Wonder Woman, was created by William Marston to fight the troubling lack of woman superheroes in the 1940's. Marston was a self
–proclaimed
feminist, yet had a great deal of strange ideals. To begin with, Marston did not believe feminism was about gender equality or fighting sexism in
the world. Marston believed feminism was a temperance movement about how women were morally superior to men. He strongly believed
woman were designed to fix men's problems using love, compassion, and justice. Although deeply flawed, Marston believed it was his job to help
others to realize the world needed to allow women to advance into leaders. The comics began to show a greater diversity in not only gender but also
races and ethnicities. However, in 1947, Marston died of cancer at the age of 53, seven days shy of his 54th birthday. Due to this, many of his
feministic ideas for Wonder Woman died as well.

(b) Why was Marvel's turnaround so successful? Would you characterize that success as a fluke? Or do you view it as sustainable? Why? How?
Marvel's success is not a fluke because its business model is sustainable. Marvel's new strategy monetized the content library by licensing characters for
use with media products. During an era in which mass media is very important in people's life, only one media tool, publishing, is not strong enough

In the future, licensing will keep increasing and its percentage of revenue will grow, especially if the management adopts a strategy of capitalizing on
it. In the past, the toy business was just an annex of the publishing industry. Little effort was invested in toys which were not even mentioned strategic
plans. Now the toy industry is the second–highest profit maker in Marvel, generating over $20 billion in sales in 2003. The toy business is very
promising in the future. However its percentage in revenue will still remain stable or slightly decrease, just as publishing will do, because licensing has
such a strong possibility for growth. In addition, while the toy industry competition is too fierce to permit further achievements.
(d) To what extent is Marvel's success due to only one character, Spider–Man? How can Marvel develop its lesser–known characters? There is no doubt
that, to a great extent, Marvel's success since the 1960s is due to Spider–Man. However, during the 1990s, the company declined despite such a

Representation Of African American Films

  • 1. Representation Of African American Films The medium of film and television have not been effectively coding the many American conflicts of the past decades. The roles of superheroes, villains, and antiheroes have always been used in every film and media directly or indirectly, introducing which is which. Since the beginning of modern film, many movies' plots and conflicts have revolved around a protagonist or several protagonists faced with an opposing force that is disturbing the order of things, usually another individual bent on malicious intent. A battle between the good and the bad, the heroic and the villainous. Unfortunately, the conflicts between good and bad have not been effectively introduced through this medium. Throughout history, the definition of what is good and what is bad has also changed slightly as a result of the effects of the Sexual Revolution and the Judeo–Christian ethic, and this has indeed been reflected in the more modern movies of today.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a result, politics, most notably the presidential election, through the medium of television has become very confusing and has turned audience's attention to subjects that do not matter much. In addition, films about racism, particularly towards African Americans, serve only as propaganda to feed "SJW" rhetoric into the minds of Americans. Furthermore, the lack of films and media coverage of educational reform has made audiences uninformed about this issue. On the other hand, the medium of film has succeeded in providing an effective discussion of income inequality in America. Although film and media has succeeded in providing accurate information about income inequality in America, they have failed in effectively coding the conflicts of politics, racism, and education ... • 2. Political Elements Of Superheros Many comic book superheroes were born in an era of highly intense international tension. The genre of Superheros in American comic books revolve around adventures of powerful superheros using superhuman abilities or weapons, as they act on personal morals through violence. The political elements are evident in the plot: the heroes are in a war with a dangerous enemy, and their morals justify violence to 'protect' those who are in danger. As well as it is a form of entertainment, comic books as a media influenced many, especially young boys and men. The debut of Green Lantern by DC Comics on 1959 featured Hal Jordan, a test pilot who recieved a magic ring to from an alien to be the protector of space sector 2814. To connect that with the Cold war, Soviet Union's Sputnik was launched on 1957 – many politicians exploited this as they spoke of serious consequences this could lead to, unless America took measures to inhance their science and technology. In Green Lantern, Hal Jordan is speaks that "This flightless trainer will help turn out space pilots of the future!"before being carried away by an alien light to become a hero. The Space Race was definitely dominant in Amerian popular culture, but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another hero that was then created was the Incredible Hulk, 1962. The Hulk, or an atomic scientist named Bruce Banner is exposed to gamma ray to save a kid, which turned his body into a green monster. The gamma ray exposion could have been stopped, but the experiment was sabotaged by Banner's assistant, Igor, who was actually a Soviet spy. Igor's orders came from 'The Gargoyle', the leader of all spies who wanted to take Amerian Nueclear technologies. Not only is such origin a response to the growing interest in nueclear technology, but the reason was the gamma ray exposion happened in the first place, is highly reflective of the political tension between the ... • 3. Marvel Comics and Marvel S Turnaround Marvel Enterprises, Inc. (b) Why was Marvel's turnaround so successful? Would you characterize that success as a fluke? Or do you view it as sustainable? Why? How? Marvel's success is definitely not a fluke and its business model is very sustainable. Because Marvel's new strategy chose to monetize the content library via licensing characters for use with media products. In an era during which mass media is so important in people's life, only one media tool – publishing is not strong enough to expand Marvel's influence to consumers. Comic books can only target a very limited market that most is composed of male teenagers and young adults from 13 to 23 years old. It is very difficult to expand this traditional market significantly. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the past, toy business is just an annex to publishing industry. Not many efforts were invested in toys, even not mentioning strategic plans. Now toy industry is the second profit maker in Marvel, generating over $20 billion in sales in 2003. The toy business is very promising in the future. However its percentage in revenue will still keep stable or slightly decrease as publishing will do, because licensing has such a strong force to grow, while toy industry competition is too fierce to make further achievements. (d) To what extent is Marvel's success due to only one character, Spider–Man? How can Marvel develop its lesser–known characters? There is no doubt that, to some extent, Marvel's success is due to Spider–Man since 1960s. However, the company still fell over in 1990s with such a successful superhero . Exploiting marketing strategies stretched out consumers' interest. The Marvel's new CEO, Peter Cuneo, restarted the company with negative assets, and turned the company around. Spider–Man resuscitated in comic–book publishing. In the Publishing Division, Marvel's 64.65% revenue is from Spider–Man in the second half year of 2003 (See Appendix A Figure 1). In the movie box office revenue, Spider–Man collected 33.75% revenue in the US market and 37.23% in the world market, ranking the highest in Marvel movies (See Appendix A Figure 2). Spider–Man ... • 4. The Fantastic Four As A Family: The Strongest Bond Of All Annotated Bibliographies: Superheroes and Philosophy Chapters 10–19 Ryall, Chris, and Scott Tipton. "The Fantastic Four as a Family: The Strongest Bond of All." Morris, Tom, and Matt Morris. Superheroes and Philosophy. Chicago and La Salle: Open Court, 2005.118–29. Print. Chris Ryall and Scott Tipton discuss the importance family has on not only superheroes but also on the people of society. They show the importance of family through the representation of The Fantastic Four and their need for each other. Using Aristotle's "three bases of friendship," they further explain what makes The Fantastic Four family and how the family distinguishes from other super hero teams. To conclude, the authors reiterate the difference between a friend of utility and a friendship of virtue by clarifying that a "complete friendship" is made when both individuals love each other and seek only to benefit one another. Both authors illustrate well the concept that society is like a broken organism that relies on everyone as a collective to make it whole or one big family. Thau, Michael. "Comic–Book Wisdom." With this being said, the author explans that changing one occurrence in history will not only change that specific segment of time on that persons timeline, but rather it will change all segments of time in every world. With all this in mind, Hanley concludes that, even though people's properties are constantly changing in time, people are still able to persist as a larger whole. • 5. Stan Lee Research Paper "With great power comes great responsibility." It's a quote everyone has heard in their life time, and this man is the mastermind behind the phrase. In Stan Lee's case he may have created the catchy line as a one off for a character, but never would he of expected to have it end up in dozens of movies and tv shows spanning decades. Stanley Martin Lieber, later legally changed to his pseudonym name Stan Lee, is the creator of some of the worlds most recognizable and profitable characters and franchises on the planet to this day through Marvel Comics. To name just a few of these marvelous characters; Spider–Man, Iron Man, Hulk, The X–Men, Black Panther, and literately 100's more. Lee grew up through a rough period of American history, but was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Jack Kirby and Joe Simon briefly decide to leave the company. This gives Stan Lee free range to create characters and story lines as he pleases. After a long gray period of watered down comics that people were not enjoying reading or creating Lee makes a bold move based on the opinion of his wife, Joan Lee, who sees how much they are struggling. He pushes his higher ups to allow him to start producing comics outside the CCA. They hesitantly allow him to try this risky business move. This turns out to be just the step Timely needed as it saved them from bankruptcy.Fantastic Four is published pushing them out in front of their only leading competitor DC for the first time in history. The success of Fantastic Four brings upon the X–Men, Hulk, Iron Man, and the rise of multi cultural/ethnic characters to the comic world. Timely promptly rebrands to Marvel Comics, and the Silver Age of Comics comes to a close and the Bronze Age begins. The Bronze Age (1970's/1985') restored the comic culture to America and slowly began spreading around the globe as well. As they evolved Stan Lee pushed boundaries right along with it. Lee is largely credited for being the person who re–envisioned the very structure of how heroes are portrayed and wrote. He strongly believed the character under the mask is just as or more important than the hero itself. This shift in direction changed the entire way visual story telling was perceived at the time. Now characters weren't just super, they were human too. Relatable people with struggles, relationships, and even everyday jobs. He also strived to set the majority of Marvels stories in the real world and not in fictional settings. • 7. Time To Take Charge: My Definition Of A Leader Time to Take Charge Keep going! I know you can do it! That is what a person that has the trait or characteristic for leadership can do, push people to do what they want. Leadership is a thing or activity people do to show what they like to do. An example of leadership is when a student sees a couple people struggling in class and helps them or tells the teacher that a couple people need help. Another example is a person does something in a story or in real life to give someone leadership. People like firefighters or policemen also use leadership in their everyday lives. We use this term in everyday life to describe what someone does to impress people in a crowd and we kind of use it correctly. A definition of leadership is "Position or function of a leader, a person that guides or directs a group"(Leadership). My definition of leadership is a person that takes charge and does there best at what they are doing to help people. What leadership is not is something that is like loyalty. Loyalty is something you get when people trust you and what you are doing. Leadership is not to be confused with loyalty because Leadership takes charge and loyalty shows a person you can trust. • 9. Research Paper On Superheroes Superheroes; to most people, superheroes are for a young boy's first obsession or for an awkward teenager's companion on lonely days. However, with the recent releases of blockbuster movies from Marvel and DC, the audience of the superhero genre is growing. (Complex) Both companies are now battling to be the best and their effects show in the characters and story arcs they produce. (Hyperbole) Some of the most prominent characters in Marvel, such as Captain America, Thor, Hulk, and Iron Man, feature in Marvel's most prominent team: The Avengers. (Colon) Alternatively, DC Comic's popular superheroes: Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman, are distinctively solitary heroes who only form the Justice League of America in response to Marvel's Avengers. • 10. Fantastic Four Essay Marvel's Fantastic Four debuted in '61 as a superhero comic book series that zeroed in on the flawed loving and familial bond shared among its characters. Given that this context and the comic book series' main focus on the "problems of human existence hindered with their crimefighting capabilities" (Genter 2007), it's hard to read the significance of matriarch Susan 'Sue' Storm (Invisible Girl then later dubbed as Invisible Woman) far from of the understandings of the second wave feminism. She is a wife to Reed Richards (Mister Fantastic), an older sister to Johnny Storm (the Human Torch), and a colleague and caretaker to Ben Grimm (the Thing), Invisible Woman's power (the ability to become invisible) could be seen as a message on the changing cultural visibility of women's rights in the '60s. Laura Mattoon D'Amore (2008) purposed that Sue Storm figuratively expressed the '50s suburban housewife, "under–compensated and unnoticed of all her victories,"invisible and unappreciated in a world of and for men." Following these notions within Fantastic Four comic books through the 60s, Laura Mattoon D'Amore explains that Invisible Woman's power of invisibility is seen as both literally and symbolically, reflecting and averting the time period's gender norms. Laura Mattoon D'Amore shows this change from reflection to deflection in '64's Fantastic Four #22, in which Invisible Woman learns to create force fields, staying visible as she undergoes invisibility onto other characters. ... Science would explain any dilemma in the story line and would also be the answer to how to fix it. Many superhero origins were also based on the idea of science such as the X–Men, Spiderman, and the Fantastic Four gained their superhuman abilities by genetic mutation. Science topics and factoids also appeared in comics during the Silver Age through comic issues of The Flash. Each issue contained multiple panels explaining scientific topics that related to the plot line. An example of this would be from The Flash Issue #140, in which one of Flash's nemeses Heat Wave used a gun–like weapon to transform heat waves into physical bullets. Throughout The Flash Issue #140, factoids about heat waves were laced within the story line, creating an educational standpoint within comic books. Another significant aspect of the Silver Age was the international "space race" between the United States and the Soviet Union over usage of satellites and spacecraft in Earth's atmosphere. The heated topic became inspiration for many storylines to break boundaries both with setting and characters by having storylines take place in space and having superheroes defending Earth from extraterrestrials (Hatfield 102). Black Panther ( Marvel Comics ) Black Panther (Marvel Comics ) February 17 2015 By, Kyle Marxen Cultural Diamond Paper пїј Page Break Marvel Comics Black Panther Introduction Culture has many different definitions. Culture could mean someone likes literature, music, food, or art. Culture is a human tool, but the tool can be very fragile. Culture can change and it can be lost like it is found. Examinations of cultural objects do not tell us much about the culture of the large society, but it does show us cultural patterns within a certain culture. These objects can show us a certain piece of someone 's culture and what it means about that particular culture. Black Panther was written in 1966. This is when we were dealing with racism all over the country. Black Panther was the first black superhero ever created. The lines that link these four points say something very specifically. It states that if you have a cultural object it will always be linked to a creator, receiver, and a social world. You cannot have one without the other. Cultural Object Black Panther has special abilities just like any superhero. "Black Panther's knowledge is one of those powers that let the Panther draw the knowledge, strength, and experiences from every previous Black Panther" (CBS Interactive Inc. 2015, para 50). These two stories defied the superhero graphic at the time with the Fantastic Four being a family turned superhero team and Spider–Man being the first teen superhero that was not a sidekick. Spider–Man put a grand effect on people as it put a realistic high school student struggling with the loss of his parental figure. The origin of Spider–Man is shown in Amazing Fantasy #15. Peter Parker was a "hard working honor student" constantly rejected being seen as a nerd. One day, however, Peter is bitten by a radioactive spider that somehow grants Peter the "proportionate speed, strength and agility of a spider" (Marvel Masterworks: The Amazing Spider–Man). After finding these powers, Peter later exploits them for himself as a wrestler winning money nightly. One night, a thief is running from a cop with Peter in front of him. Instead of stopping the thief, Peter arrogantly lets the thief go and tells the cop, "Sorry, pal! That's your job!... From now on I just look out for number one –– that means –– me!" Since The Adventures of Mr. Obadiah Oldbuck, which is generally accepted as the first American comic, comics as a genre of literature has changed both technologically and in perception (Greenberger). Throughout American history, comics have served as both an influence and a reflection of the time period. As America grew, changed, and experienced major historical events, society and the ideas within changed along with it. Many comic historians cite Genovese author and painter Rodolph TГ¶pffer as the first modern comic artist ("Comics Theory"). TГ¶pffer is the author of a comic titled Histoire de M. Vieux Bois, which was published in 1839. This was eventually translated in 1841 to the first American comic The Adventures of Mr. Obidiah Oldbuck (Greenberger). Though this was the first comic published in America, it cannot be said to reflect American history very well since it was not originally written in America. Instead, it was first published in Europe before gaining widespread popularity in the United States (TГ¶pffer 2014). Years later in 1894, the first significant recurring comic strip character The Yellow Kid debuted (Greenberger). Created by Richard Outcault, The Yellow Kid was seen as the beginning of the "Funnies", the name given to comic strips in newspapers at the time ("Comic Theory"). Although people view celebrity impact on society as positive, Postrel argues that superhero's or celebrities limit ordinary people 's lives because they strive to be what they can not. The author talks about how the word glamour has changed over the years, and how different the definition has become. Postrels' definition is "it is an imaginative process that creates a specific, emotional response: a sharp mixture of projection, longing, admiration, and aspiration. It evokes and audience's hopes and dreams and makes them seem attainable, all the while maintaining enough distance to sustain the fantasy"(Postrel, 2006 p.2). This definition is spot on in what she is talking about and the present day definition would not make any sense at all. Today 's definition is the attractive or exciting quality that makes certain people or things seem appealing or special (dictionary.com). While that definition fits for how people view glamour today, it does not fit in the author 's essay. Postrel talks about how and why people try to be a superhero or exactly like their favorite celebrity and uses the old definition of glamor to explain it perfectly. Virginia Postrel has a quote that explains her definition perfectly it says, "glamour is always vulnerable to those who love it" (Postrel, 2006 p.5). What she is talking about is that movies ... • 31. Factors That Make People Become A Supervillain I have always thought of superheroes as beings with an unattainable, unnatural level of perfection. They were, to me at least, those who were faster than a speeding bullet and more powerful than a locomotive. There is, however, more to superheroes (and by association, supervillains) than that. I've found there are several factors that make someone become a superhero or a supervillain. The world needs saving, and knowing what it takes to become a superhero or a supervillain, makes it easier to support the former and avoid the latter. It's important to acknowledge that as humans, we are prone to divide the world into an "us" versus "them" situation. The "them" category is seen as the one with more negative, undesirable attributes. For instance vampires, demons, evil Gods, they're all viewed as "them"; they're different so they're the bad guys. Whenever one feels noticeably different, it leads them to think of themselves as part of the "them" category. For someone really smart, for example, growing up with children not as smart or gifted in a particular way, they will feel different. The Thing, from the movie TheFantastic Four says as he walks through a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In contrary to popular belief, costumes aren't only for superheroes and Halloween. Costumes communicate something about the person wearing it. It also communicates something about the role they're playing. People form impressions based on what they glean from the costume. The same way good–looking people are seen as kind, and well groomed job applicants as more competent, we see Superman, with his square jaw, his powerful posture, and his colorful latex suit as a superhero. Similarly, people tend to view old and unattractive people as unfriendly, the same way they see, say, nose–less Lord Voldemort as the epitome of unfriendliness. • 32. Influence Of Social Status On Comics Comic Books Changing With The Times Growing up the biggest dream of mine was to wake up one day and have a super power. I would be able to help defend the world, save people from bad guys, and make the world a better place. Sadly, I ended up just going to college and studying to be a mechanical engineer, but the dream is still alive! Even now while going through my studies, comic books still intrigue me and one of the aspects that has me the most curious is the sudden shift recently taking place in Marvel comics. Iron man has been replaced by a young African American girl, Thor is female, and the mantle of Spiderman now goes to a homosexual teenage boy. Society has been drastically changing as time has gone on, and Marvel is starting to follow suit with changing some of their main comics. I have researched the impact of social status on comics in the past versus how they are now to determine how the audience is receiving these changes, either positively or negatively. When Marvel first started making stories for the public, they followed a generic pattern of mildly successful monster, romance, and western stories to reach their audience. Around the sixties, when fear of the Cold War was at a high, it got the creative juices at marvel flowing and led to some of the most successful and longest running comic series. (O'neal 2016) The first to appear was the Fantastic Four that received their powers from going into space in an attempt to beat Russia in the space race. The Cold ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Movie Analysis : Film Revenue The past decade has seen superhero movies rise to box office dominance. This is a new trend. Batman and Superman movies found success early, but the surprise blockbusters Spider–man and X–men at the turn of the millennium revealed that the market for comic based entertainment was not yet saturated (Fritz, 2014). Looking back a decade and a half later, consumer demand has clearly spoken: six of the last ten highest grossing movies were based on comic books: Guardians of the Galaxy, Iron Man 3, The Avengers, Transformers: The Revenge of the Fallen, The Dark Knight, and Spider–Man 3 (Lev–Ram, 2015). Today, studios have demonstrated confidence that this trend will continue. For example, movies set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe are scheduled out until at least 2019, with Inhumans set for release in June of that year (Marvel, 2015). Film revenue is only part of the profit equation. A successful blockbustersuperhero generates interest in its characters, returning massive profits from merchandising and licensing (Schedeen, 2015). Video games, television spin–offs, collectible toys, apparel, books, and home dГ©cor are just a few examples that come to mind. These products, in turn, act as advertisement for the films themselves and future films in the franchise by increasing visibility (Schedeen, 2015). While this works well for franchises in which Marvel owns all rights to the characters, Marvel transferred the film rights to several of their comics via "a series of ... • 34. Rhetorical Analysis Of Shampoo Advertising Shampoo advertisements use Visual Rhetorical appeals to convince consumers to buy a certain shampoo. The Fantastic Four exemplify the way that these shampoo ads use rhetorical appeals to sell products. The Fantastic Four made it apparent that Shampoo commercials bundle a set of values and false hopes with their product which allows them to be successful. They made appeals by using characters, setting, and actions these ads successfully appealed to ethos, pathos, and logos, revealing why shampoo ads are successful. There are two different ads, a L'Oreal commercial and a Head and Shoulders commercial, with two major distinctions. In the L'Oreal commercial the person narrating the ad is a woman and the character that appears is a woman. In the Head and Shoulders ad both the character and narrator is a man. The L'Oreal d shows a L'Oreal shampoo bottle sitting by a pool. It then cuts to the shampoo being squirted into a hand and ends with the bottle being held by a happy consumer. Throughout the L'Oreal commercial a woman's voice explains all of the benefits that come with using L'Oreal. The Head and Shoulders shows a man holding a Head and Shoulders shampoo bottle followed by the same man catching the bottle multiple times. The imagery ends with the shampoo placed on the edge of a bathtub. The Head and Shoulders ad is fully narrated by a man. The narrator repeatedly says that the shampoo cannot be dropped. The first defining element that both ads used were characters. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. T Challa And Ororo Monroe Analysis T'Challa and Ororo Monroe (Storm) have had various aspects of their histories retconned over the years, but one of the most significant changes came in 2006, when Marvel announced that the pair would be marrying one another. The sometimes leader of the X–Men and the ruler of Wakanda were married in a huge Wakandan ceremony surrounded by their superhero friends and allies. They immediately went on a diplomatic tour (she was now queen after all), meeting with Dr. Doom in Latveria, the President of the United States, Namor in Atlantis, and others. Then for a short time they even filled in for Sue and Reed Richards as members of the Fantastic Four. Eventually the marriage was annulled when Namor attacks Wakanda and T'Challa felt he had ... • 36. The X Men Series, And Avengers : Age Of Ultron In today's film culture, superhero films are very popular genre. Yet, woman are still objectified, over–sexualized, and given roles with little or no real merit within this genre. This has been shown since the beginning of the Wonder Woman comics and has progressed to the films we have today. Films like Supergirl, Catwoman, the Fantastic Four series, the X–Men series, and Avengers: Age of Ultron show these issues within our film culture. Their physical appearance, clothing, and sex appeal have more importance than the actual characters themselves. The first woman to be called a superhero, Wonder Woman, was created by William Marston to fight the troubling lack of woman superheroes in the 1940's. Marston was a self –proclaimed feminist, yet had a great deal of strange ideals. To begin with, Marston did not believe feminism was about gender equality or fighting sexism in the world. Marston believed feminism was a temperance movement about how women were morally superior to men. He strongly believed woman were designed to fix men's problems using love, compassion, and justice. Although deeply flawed, Marston believed it was his job to help others to realize the world needed to allow women to advance into leaders. The comics began to show a greater diversity in not only gender but also races and ethnicities. However, in 1947, Marston died of cancer at the age of 53, seven days shy of his 54th birthday. Due to this, many of his feministic ideas for Wonder Woman died as well. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Josh Trank's Fantastic Four In the most recent Fantastic Four directed by Josh Trank, Reed Richards is a boy genius which, with the help of his partner, Ben Grimm, creates a teleportation device. Dr. Franklin Storm takes interest in this project as he believes the invention may hold the secret to inter–dimensional travel. Dr. Storm invites Reed to join his son Johnny, daughter Sue, and Victor Von Doom to build a Quantum Gate. When those four plus Ben Grimm use the Quantum Gate unexpectedly, "Planet Zero" leaves each of them with a genetic mutation. The inventors soon learn that their powers will make them a team of superheros. • 38. Marvel Enterprises Marketing Strategy 8050 Marvel Enterprises, Inc. Case Writing by Xiaodan Dong February, 2008 Marvel Enterprises, Inc. (b) Why was Marvel's turnaround so successful? Would you characterize that success as a fluke? Or do you view it as sustainable? Why? How? Marvel's success is not a fluke because its business model is sustainable. Marvel's new strategy monetized the content library by licensing characters for use with media products. During an era in which mass media is very important in people's life, only one media tool, publishing, is not strong enough to expand Marvel's influence to consumers. Comic books can target a very limited market, mostly composed of male teenagers and young adults from 13 to 23 years old. It is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the future, licensing will keep increasing and its percentage of revenue will grow, especially if the management adopts a strategy of capitalizing on it. In the past, the toy business was just an annex of the publishing industry. Little effort was invested in toys which were not even mentioned strategic plans. Now the toy industry is the second–highest profit maker in Marvel, generating over $20 billion in sales in 2003. The toy business is very promising in the future. However its percentage in revenue will still remain stable or slightly decrease, just as publishing will do, because licensing has such a strong possibility for growth. In addition, while the toy industry competition is too fierce to permit further achievements. (d) To what extent is Marvel's success due to only one character, Spider–Man? How can Marvel develop its lesser–known characters? There is no doubt that, to a great extent, Marvel's success since the 1960s is due to Spider–Man. However, during the 1990s, the company declined despite such a successful superhero. "Exploiting" strategy by significantly increasing the number of titles stretched out consumers' interest. Marvel's new CEO, Peter Cuneo, restructured the company with negative assets and turned the company around. Spider–Man was resuscitated in comic–book sales. • 39. Spidey's Last Questions They should have thought this through––it would have saved them so much trouble. Doom was bound to come back from there at some point, right? They could've attacked him as soon as he was back to a warmer climate, not when he was at actual hypodermic freezing levels. Not, whenever one of their teammates was on the brink of death, without Doctor Doom even remotely close to them. Anyways, it's not like they actually thought any of this was going to happen. How were they supposed to know? Realistically, maybe they should have asked questions. . . . But, they didn't ask questions, after all, they've known Spidey for quite some time. Maybe they should have known? It would've saved a lot of trouble. в—Џ в—Џ в—Џ Doctor Doom was up to no good, Spidey and the Fantastic Four knew that by now. Doom was kind of in his name. . . . It was a regular occurence, his failures of "wooing" Spider–Man. Even worse, his whole family would tease him over his failed attmepts. Ben would smirk and laugh at his attempts right then and there, right in front of Spidey. Reed just pretended it did happen around Spidey, and then tease Johnny when they were alone or with the rest of the Fantastic Four. Sue, on the other hand, was more worried that his attempts were pressuring Spidey. But, she still made fun of him if she really felt like it.
