Mexican Culture, Culture And Cultural Awareness Of Mexico
Cultural Awareness of Mexico Culture is the shared patterns of behaviors, characteristics, interactions and knowledge of a particular group of
people. Culture encompasses what we wear, how we wear it, religion, food, music, our language and marriage (Zimmermann, 12 July 2017).
Mexican traditional clothing combines European and native elements. Wool, cotton, silk, agave and bark are the fibers of choice across the country
that make up Mexican clothing. Past Mexican clothing was dyed using natural local components found in plants. Imported from Europe aniline dyes
was the first dying choice. Ancient Aztec clothing often colorful and loose fitting. Huipil, traditional garments worn by indigenous women of Central
America and Central Mexico would have ribbons, lace and other intricate designs. These are just a few of Mexicans traditional clothing (Facts about
Mexico, 2017). Mexican traditional food, beans, hot peppers and corn constitute the heart of most Mexican dishes. Consumed in all possible forms,
corn is roasted or cooked in various different ways. Cooked Tortillas made from corn dough come in many sizes are thin and round. Tortillas
accompanied most meals and are normally filled with meat or other ingredients. Mexicans eat a light breakfast of fruit and coffee. Dinner the most
important meal of the day consists of soup, pasta, rice, and chicken normally served between two and four in the afternoon (Countries and their cultures
2017). Religion of Mexico, Roman

American Street Gangs Chapter 4 Summary
This week I read chapter 5 of American street gangs (old book) Tim Deleany mentioned 3 points of what happens inside a gang that many don't know,
the first point is the categories they have based on the age the recruits are, the second point is the categories they are placed in depending on the
activities they are involved, the third point is the process that involves the recruitment, punishment, and leaving the gang. At the conclusion of the
paper I would be providing an experience my uncle went through when he was leaving the gang. The first point is what categories each recruit falls
under, every street gang has a different view of it, many have four stages which are 8–11 years old "pee wees" the new recruits youngsters and 12–15
years old are the juniors, and 16–19 are the seniors in the gangs and 20 and older are the ancients which are the OG's the original gangsters are people
that have been in a gang since a very young age many youngster looking up the OG because of the respect they get from the other people and the
reputation have.

Coqui Frog Research Paper
Introduction Coqui frogs are some of the most common frogs found in Puerto Rico. They are frogs that live in rainforests and they don't go through the
tadpole stage and their name comes from the unique night time calling sound (ko–kee) made by the male species. Description, Diet, Ect. The Coqui
Frog is a small frog who has dorsal colors from brown, gray and green with highly variable color patterns. These frogs have large toe pads and they
don't have a tadpole stage. Like most frogs who have webbed feet these frogs have no webbing between the toes. The coqui male frog chirps up to 90
decibels roughly as loud as a lawn mower or garbage disposal. Once its born the coqui frog only has a minute tail when its born but this quickly
disappears.

Analysis Of John Womack's Zapata And The Mexican Revolution
The Mexican Revolution brought multiple parties and movements out of the woodwork. In John Womack's Zapata and the Mexican Revolution, a
story of one state's drive for agrarian reform and its people's evolving mission was told, with Emiliano Zapata as a pivotal leader. The dynamics of the
revolution, however, reach deeper than Womack's account portrays. While Womack documents the revolutionary path of the Zapatistas from the
southern state of Morelos, the story of Pancho Villa, an arguably parallel character fighting for states in the North against the repressive powers of
General Victoriano Huerta, reads more as a subplot. The writings of Samuel Brunk, Ana Maria Alonso, and Mariano Azuela shed light on the less
simplistic dynamics of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His careful language exemplifies a quasi–diplomatic approach in controlling his followers. Brunk also emphasizes that "many other jefes [...] resented
what Zapatista headquarters had become: the centralizing product of Zapata's interaction with urban intellectual parties" (350). This internal struggle
stemming different actor's perspective on what was happening to Zapatismo provides a more nuanced look at a pivotal group in the Mexican Revolution.
The image of a somewhat cohesive revolutionary party working towards peace put forth by Womack draws a stark line between the "bandit" enemy
described by General Huerta and the Zapatistas. Brunk, in his writings on Zapata, challenges this narrative by exploring the gray space that does not
allow for easy delineation between revolutionaries and bandits. Rather than existing as an arbitrary offshoot of Zapatismo, "banditry represented the
pursuit of local political (and economic) goals" (Brunk, 349). Womack does acknowledge the "insoluble village rivalries that only compromise could
ease", but does not relate them directly to feuds involving bandits (Womack, 233). The nature of local politics was arguably defined by the multiplicity
of intrinsic power struggles over local democratization.
As "each jefe sought to delegitimize the other in the eyes of Zapatista headquarters and this to gain an advantage in the local power struggle", a similar
struggle emerged among

Essay about Gang Violence: Problem on the Rise
What ever happened to kids wanting saying they wanted to be a police officer, fireman, doctor or teacher when they grow up? Does anyone ever say,
when I grow up I want to be in a gang? According to the National Gang Threat Assessment there are over one million gang members in California and
over forty percent are under the age of eighteen. Just in Fresno alone there are over twelve thousand gang members and over 500 gangs (Overend).
Gang violence is a growing problem and if we don't try to control it now it will be a bigger problem in the future.
According to the National Gang History, gangs started out in India in the year 1200 AD when a group of criminals used to roam the town committing
burglaries and crimes. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Overend) "Out of the one million gang members about 400,000 are teens, 90%–94% are male." (Gang Statistics) When conducting a survey on gang
violence I asked fifty people, "What are the top five gangs here in Fresno?" and the top five were Bulldogs, Surenos, Crips, Bloods, and Asian Boyz.
The most known gang in Fresno are the Bulldogs. (Rosas) They represent themselves not so much by color but by the Fresno State Bulldog
symbol. The Bulldog gang is the biggest gang here in Fresno with over 4,000 members. (Gang Statistics) Most Bulldog gang members usually
have dog paws tattooed or many will get the whole dog face tatted on them. Bulldogs do not have any specific number or color to represent them,
but Fresno State apparel is usually red, blue, black, or white. Surenos are another popular gang in Fresno, most surenos are Mexican, Hispanic, or
Latino. Their color to wear or represent is blue, therefore they will carry a blue rag with them most of the time. Tatoos they usually have are "south
side", the number 13, three dots (each dot stand for one word in "mi vida loca"), and when they have killed someone they will have a tear drop
tattooed on the side of their eye. They will also use a rosary around there neck to show respect for god, but it is also something that represents the
sureno gang in general. Bloods were originally known as the Piru gang. (Walker) The name Piru came from Piru Street in Compton, California

African American Gangs
The two ethnic group I've chosen to discuss here are the Norteno and Sureno Hispanics, along with the Bloods and Crips of the African American
cultures. Although the groups have several ethnic differences the political aspect of the sets they claim have several similarities. In terms of street
gangs, Hispanic, and African American gangs dominate the world of gangs, in size, violence, drug distribution, and representation throughout the
country and even internationally. Valdez states, "African–American street gangs adopted membership indicia commonly used by Latino Gangs" A
common form for all gangs are to use graffiti, which is a way of marking their territory and or a way to show rival gang members that they have been

Bloods and Crips exist in smaller groups in the prison system, but usually have what appears to be some sort of truce, while serving their prison term.
If they do form these small groups, it is because they are looking for protection. If the African American gang member decides to be part of the gang
they usually decide to side with the prison gang, The Black Guerrilla Family, which is the largest African American prison gang. However, the
Hispanic gang members in and out of prison are interdependent on each other's support and representation. is that the Hispanic gangs on the streets are
already representing their prison gangs, as they serve as the foot soldiers that earn money for their brothers that are serving time. Once the Norteno or
Sureno member arrives into the prison he is immediate sought out and taken into the protection of his gang. In a way it like they grow in their status,
and earn their gang ranking, because they have arrived home and have ultimately proved they are down for the

20th Century Gangs Research Paper
Since the 1800's gangs as we all know have a history in the United States. The United States became a melting pot during this time as people of many
ethnicities and religions entered the United States. Many of the new immigrants joined gangs in order to gain a group identity, protect themselves
against other rival groups both immigrant based and natural born citizens, and build a unified presence. The five corners in new York cityis a prime
example of immigrant based gangs just trying to protect themselves and gain identity in the new world. Even though the street gangs of the 19th
century were widely feared by other citizens and rival gangs, they don't hold a candle to the threat that the gangs we have today to the safety of society.
The delinquent activities of the street gangs of the early 20th century involved petty crimes and fighting with their rival gangs. By the end of the 20th
Century gangs had became involved in more heinous crimes. By that time law enforcement officials had come ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

After that time, however, gangs spread to smaller areas. It is true that the larger the population, the greater the likelihood of the existence of gangs in
that area, in 2007 for example 86% of law enforcement agencies in larger cities reported gang problems, 50% of all suburban counties, 35% of all
cities with a population of 2,500 to 49,999, and 15% of rural counties reported gang problems in their jurisdictions that year. The huge growth in
gangs and gang membership slowed during the late 1990s 27,900 gangs with 774,000 gang members were active in the United States in 2008. Even
though small cities and rural counties saw a decrease in gangs between 2007 and 2008, all jurisdictions saw an increase in gangs and gang members

Narco–Propaganda in the Mexican Drug War
Organized crime is a serious threat to the state and civil society (though boundaries have been blurred between cartels and police/military)
Anthropology of crime deconstructs criminalizing discourses of the state but we also need to deconstrust discourses generated by organized crime
groups (who have relative autonomy from the state).
Mexican organized groups, or "cartels", produce a quasi–political discourse– a form of narco propaganda. Narco propaganda is not a fully formed
political ideology but is an important part of public discourse in Mexico (though data is mysterious and ambiguous). The mysteriousness of
narco–propaganda gives it even more power. Narco–propaganda is a discourse directed at

Analysis Of John Steinbeck 's ' The Salad Bowl ' Essay
Blood On The Leaves or Blood In The Fields
When viewers think of Salinas, California they usually picture its fertile fields and lush central coast. The usual ethnic presence you see around Salinas
is Hispanic people since two–thirds of the population is of Mexican descent. Salinas has always been viewed as a small town, prominently as a
farming area known for vegetables and salad greens. Very often, you're almost certainly eating something that is from or around the area.
Furthermore, since so many vegetables are produced here locals nicknamed Salinas "The Salad Bowl". Few people actually know Salas is the
birthplace of famous author John Steinbeck, who happens to mention this small town quite often. Although Salinas, California is rich in land and value
it is also known as a headquarters of two deadly prison gangs. More recently, this farming community has begun to see a lot of change for the past
twenty–five years. As the population continued to grow, the violence also grew with it. Now many of the neighboring towns just see Salinas as a
deadly war zone being fought on the streets. As a viewer from the neighboring town of Watsonville, we need this community to find peace of mind, and
stop gang violence from spilling into their community. Since the 1990's the community of Salinas sadly buried hundreds of young men and women,
many of them due to gang–related homicides or innocent victims caught in the war zone's crossfire. From 2009 to present day, Salinas,

I guess you could say that about Latin American music, but the music from Latin America is much more complex and diverse than that. Saying you
like the music is saying a lot because there are various types. There is a lot more to the music than the genres of mariachi and salsa. The reason for
this is the music is a product of transculturation. It merges the cultures of Africans, Indigenous, and Europeans. Not only this but Latin America covers a
whole lot of land from Mexico down Venezuela and even consisting of the Caribbean islands of Cuba, Jamaica, Haiti, and the Dominican Republic.
With this transculturation came various genres of music including mariachi, sones, banda, norteno, punta, rumba, guaracha and many more. Not only

California Gangs
There are approximately 1.4 million active street, prison, and outlaw gang members comprising more than 33,500 gangs in the United States,
according to the National Gang Intelligence Center of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Gangs are defined as a group of people who form an
alliance for a common purpose and engage in violent or criminal activity. Gang violence continues to grow in California. It is inarguable that the gang
problem has become more entrenched, over the past 25 years, especially here locally in Porterville. There are many different gangs in California, but
there is a strong presence of hispanic gangs. During 1980's, California street gangs were divided into Surenos and Nortenos. Some say the North–South
battle started in the 1950s in a California prison, where two prisoners fought over a pair of shoes. One inmate formed the Mexican Mafia for
SureГ±os, and the other prisoner formed Nuestra Familia for NorteГ±os, which is how the division was created.

How To Tame A Wild Tongue Analysis
Language and identity are two things that are very closely related. In the excerpt of "How to Tame a wild Tongue" by Gloria Anzaldua, the author does
an excellent job of explaining how identity and language blend right together. By hearing someone speak their language one could determine a person's
cultural values and their identity. In the excerpt Anzaldua says, "For a people who cannot entirely identify with either standard Spanish or English,
what recourse is left to them but to create their own language?" By this quote, author is trying to show that it is very important for a person to connect
with their language because the way someone speaks a language will reflect their identity and their value in a society.

more underground gang structures are prison gangs. The Nuestra Familia may not be in the news as much anymore compared to other gangs, but they

(NF 2011) This divide proved to be an igniter of the gang war between the Mexican Mafia and Nuestra Familia.
The newly formed Nuestra Familia engaged in prison war against the Mexican Mafia throughout the 70's until the later 1970's when a formal divide
was acknowledged between the gangs. After the formal divide Nuestra Familia began making allies with other Californian Prison gangs like the Black
Guerilla family to defeat a common enemy, The Mexican Mafia. On the other side the Mexican Mafia teamed up with the Aryan Brotherhood to combat
the newly formed Nuestra Familia and Black Guerilla Family alliance. In order for the Nuestra Familia to gain power in the prisons it has to control the
contraband coming in and out of prison. This is where the foot soldiers, the NorteГ±os, came in handy. NorteГ±os is a Spanish term for northerners.
(Gangland, 2008) The NorteГ±os operated under leadership from the Nuestra Familia members in prison. The NorteГ±os used the trafficking of drugs
like marijuana, cocaine, heroin, and methamphetamine to gain currency. They also had successful prostitution and identity theft rings to sustain their

Jacksonian Democracy Essay
Jacksonian Democracy
Jacksonian (Democracy, Society, etc.) is a term used to describe reform during the time of Andrew Jackson's Presidency. Specifically Jacksonian
Democracy refers to "the general extension of democracy that characterized U.S. politics from 1824 to 1828." Jacksonian Democracy and its support
came primarily from the lower classes as a rebellion of sorts apposing the aristocracy. Even though it stressed equality, it was pro–slavery and
anti–Indian (not unlike Andrew Jackson). Also there was change in both the political parties and thesocial reforms. Jackson was seen as a westerner

The Democrats wanted to limit the role of government in the market and wanted to resolve the tensions among the Northeast, West, and South. Also
they wanted to do away with the national bank (Jackson put a lot of money into city and state bands as a result) and sell land at low rates and leave
internal improvement basically to the states to deal with. The proposed government of the democrats was one centered in local affairs (one of the most
important was slavery). Jackson therefore wanted weak central government within a permanent union. However soon came up the issue of Nullification
with South Carolinas attempt to nullify the tariff of 1828.
Social reform was underway as well with a number of institutions and social movements being devoted to improving morals of individuals and
society in general. Schools started to pop up around the country. Public tax supported schools set up by Whigs in the north. The school systems were
centralized at the state level and made attendance mandatory. Temperance was also part of this reform, and this was the most sustained movement in
social history. The good old crusade against the use of alcohol that began in 1820. The reason for this it was argued was that alcohol led to violence,
personal and social disintegration and was associated with being out of control. This effort was headed up by the middle class (women mostly) that
assumed poverty, crime, and every other thing wrong with society was a result

Movements Rising from Drug Cartels in Mexico
Secure places to visit. In 2006 Mexico was a safe place to visit, but everything changed after Felipe Calderon took over as new president. After few
months of his new position, President Felipe Calderon decided to send 45,000 soldiers and 5,000 federal police to the state of MichoacГЎn to
eradicate the drug trafficking. He also fired hundreds of dishonest police officers. The drug trafficking movement is not a new movement. It has been
existed for many decades, but now it is expanding further due to the born of new drug trafficking organizations or cartels. The cartels fight against
each other to win control or to open new trafficking routes into the United States, on their fights many innocent people die or disappear every day.
Residents from some states tired of all the crimes committed by the cartels and sometimes the authorities; had decided to protect themselves by forming
self– defense groups Also, other movement has emerge, since the drug trafficking became more notorious and dangerous the Narcocultura movement.
Mexico in conjunction with United States had been fighting to end with the drug trafficking war. The lack of education, the poverty, the corruption and
the unrestricted demand for drug in the United States, have made Mexico the center of one of the world's most sophisticated drug system Mexican

Hispanic Gangs: Not Just a California Problem Anymore
Gangs are not a new problem to the United States. Gangs have often been romanticized in literature and the media with a classic example being "West
Side Story". Americans have long been fascinated with the Mafia, and infamous gangsters such as Al Capone and John Gotti have even been elevated
in status as cultural icons. Americans have seen an uprising in "Gangster Rap" since the early 1990's. Many people tend to think of gangs in America
as being made up primarily of young inner–city black males with a small percentage of white males. Americans tend to forget that gangs also include
girls, adults, and children. One area that most Americans have not started to look into yet is the influence of the growing number of Hispanic Gangs....

MS–13 uses highly advanced means of communication ranging from a complete hand signal alphabet and code system to using various methods on the
internet. By posting lookouts, gang members are able to forewarn other members of approaching law enforcement and rival gang members by secret
signals. Members also have the ability to strategize and coordinate across towns, cities, states, and even countries via the internet. MS–13 and other
technologically savvy Hispanic gangs are truly international organizations. The 18th Street gang got its start in the 1960s as the result of Hispanic
youths from mixed backgrounds being denied membership into another street gang. This melting pot beginning paved the way for the 18th Street gang
to be the first Hispanic gang to break the racial barriers and accept blacks, Asians, Caucasians, and multi–racial individuals. This has allowed 18th
Street to become one of the largest and well–known Hispanic gangs in the United States. They start recruitment at very young ages with some efforts
reaching into the elementary schools to gain members who will be loyal their entire lives. Due to a huge recruitment campaign during the 1990s, the
membership in California alone is estimated to be above 30,000. There are many clickas throughout the United

Why Street Gangs Exist
Introduction The reason behind the street gangs has been largely associated with myriad of social and economic reasons. Among the reasons as to
why youth join gangs are desperation due to poverty as well as breakdown of a family as a cohesive unit. According to the survey of gang areas,
Los Angeles showed identical poverty map within the area. In ss much as there are some other reasons behind youth joining gangs, when critically
analyzed it, reveals that such reasons are always directly or indirectly related to family poverty and situations. Examples of these gangs are Surenos
and Nortenos whose mode of operation and activities though different, share some similarities. Surenos and Nortenos all engage in criminal activities
just like any other gangs where they sell drugs as a source of revenue. Nortenos focus on street distribution of drugs and mainly narcotics on top of
engaging in murders, shootings vehicle burglaries, vehicle theft or home invasion burglaries. Surenos engage themselves in various aspects of criminal
activities from drug trafficking, homicides, kidnapping, as well as violent instances especially domestic violence against their families and girlfriends.
Their criminal activities also involve human trafficking. Many states have faced the high profile Surenos criminal cases, for instance in Washington
state in 2011 a Surenos playboy shot at a car show up in Kent Washington and was apprehended thereafter. Nortenos are usually not widely spread

Personal Narrative: My Life In The Ghetto
Growing up in an impoverished community with gangs and dangerous streets, the virtually public sale of marijuana and cocaine was not abnormal.
From an early age, I knew about inequality. Such was reflected in the neighborhood kids, prevalent graffiti, and unemployment that haunted every
family on my block. In retrospect, seeing a brand new car troubled me to a greater extent than the casual drug dealing, gunshots at night, or police and
ambulance sirens. These are not uncommon occurrences in the ghettos of the world, and I was exposed to it all. NorteГ±os and SureГ±os dominated
the neighborhood and numerous lives were lost due to senseless acts of violence, at times merely for being at the wrong place at the wrong time. I was
14–years–old the first time I witnessed someone die from a gunshot. I was desensitized to the lit candles in the neighbor's garages symbolizing another
young life taken. It was normal to me. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Summary: Initiation Into The Mexican Mafia
Initiation into the Mexican Mafia requires a vote of 3 current members to bring in a new member. Initiations can take place in prison or on the
street (Mexican Mafia, 2008). New members are addressed as "Carnal"(slang for "Brother"). The same number of votes are required to kill an
existing member, however voting is not required for a "Carnal" to kill an associate (Mexican Mafia, 2008). Mexican Mafia members have to follow
rules and some of these rules include: holding oneself accountable, refrain from being an informant, refrain from being homosexual, have respect for
female members of the community, respect all other members, and personal conflicts with fellow members must be left alone (Mexican Mafia, 2008).

My Culture And Cultural Identity
Cultural Identity Can events, clothing, and food describe who you are in your culture? Growing up I was always ashamed of my culture, being
embarrassed of knowing how to speak Spanish and the songs in Spanish that I would always listen to secretly because I did not want to be
different from anyone else. But very recently, over the summer, I have learned to embrace and love my culture. I learned a lot about my culture by
going to Mexico and attending parties, and seeing the traditions usually over there come and emigrate here. When I first really saw how much I
liked my culture was when went to a party, but especially when I had my quinceaГ±era in Mexico. Music played was lively, loud, live by a band, and
easy to dance to. Music can range, as there is banda, grupera, mariachi, norteГ±o, and ranchera, but I prefer banda. The food served is traditionally a
type of crispy pulled pork called carnitas with red rice and often served with a chocolatey, spicy sauce called mole. Every meal like this is often served
with a pack of foil wrapped tortillas. While the music is playing and everyone is enjoying the music, there is usually a series of events that happen. For
a quinceaГ±era, the quinceaГ±era does a series of dances, called la entrada (the entrance) and el vals (the very magical waltz). El baile sorpresa
(surprise dance) is often followed by el vals and is a way for the quinceaГ±era to show off some skills she has by dancing with the chambelanes (the
court) or her family. After

Taking a Look at Chalino Sanchez
I.Background Chalino Sanchez was born and raised in la Chilla known as "el rancho" the ranch. Chalino had six brothers, and a sister, named
Juana. Chalino lost his father at age six, and lived in poverty at a young age with his mother Sannorina Felix. and siblings. It was always a struggle
they either had to pick tomatoes or become a drug trafficker in Sinaloa. Chalino would tell his mother "don't worry, with my body and voice in
California you will not be without" page 23 in the book "A Chronicle Play of Fulgor and Death". In a world so cold that "blood burns like fire" and
the only way to get someone back is to revenge. Chalino never thought his arrival to California was going to be in a blink of an eye. Chalino
persuaded the American dream he promised his mother that when he moved to California he would make it to the spot light, using his voice and
body. Keeping in mind his sister's rape. He wanted a better life, for his family than living the life in Mexico. Julian Camacho Segura is the author
of "A Chronicle Play of Fulgor and death." Julian Camacho Segura journey began from Mexico, back to the United States. Julian was born in El
Centro California in 1969, raised in Inglewood, California in the rancho Del Cantinela. "Julian says" Most of the book is fiction but a lot is not
because Chalino did, for example, buy cassettes in Lennox where his grandfather saw him because the ladies would sell in front of the laundrymats
where he worked," recalled Segura. Julian

Essay on Indentifying Prison Gangs: Their Bonds and Their...
While in prison criminals become part of the gang or a member of the gang's victim pool. Race and culture seem to be the major factors in the
victimization of inmates. The inmate may not be racist when he enters the system, however the need for survival against other inmates may force
these characteristics to become more prominent. In the summer of 1998, a young man named William King was convicted and sentenced to death
for the murder of James Byrd Jr. Byrd was a black man from Jasper County, Texas, whom was bound at the ankles and dragged to death behind a
truck. Why would this young man commit such a terrible and seemingly racist crime? Most would agree that it was his time spent in prison that led
William King to take the life of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These are made possible is through an inmate's friends and/or girlfriends ( Justice Quarterly, Vol. 20, Iss. 3, 2006). Gangs need strong leaders to
maintain their power and connections to the outside world; a single inmate who best embodies the gang's beliefs usually assumes the role. When the
leader is relocated either the gang's elite decides on a new leader or the strongest remaining gang member assumes the role. Becoming an elite member
requires acts of violence that focus on weakening other gangs. Each member takes vows to be loyal and obedient, if the vow is broken they risk losing
everything including their life. By deportation of inmates to facilities where they are the minority, the department can ensure that the inmate will be
hard–pressed to find new racial alliances. The institution may send an Aryan Brotherhood leader in a facility heavily populated with black inmates.
This does not always deter the gang violence as there is always someone to replace the leader; the prison may only increase the gang's anger toward
the system be deporting a leader, encouraging further violence. Despite segregation attempts and lock–down, prison gangs seem to remain more
prevalent and visible than ever. There are about six well known prison gangs within the country: Mexican Mafia, La Nuestra Familia, Neta, Black
Guerrilla Family, Aryan Brotherhood, and Texas Syndicate. Each one of these gangs has a history

How Does Traditional Mexican Music Influence People's...
In my personal experience, Mexican music has revolved around my life for as long as I can remember. Growing up in a bordertown has its Hispanic
heritage. Whether I was at home, school, or even in public places, I would hear Spanish related music playing in the background. I believe Spanish
music holds many values when it comes to different occasions. The music can manipulate the minds of its listeners using love, passion, and outstanding
rhythms. After reading an article online, I can explain how three different genres of traditional Mexican music influence people's culture.
The genre that most people know Mexican music by is Mariachi. Mariachi is usually played at birthday parties, quinceaГ±eras, and any other social
gathering. In a Mariachi band, the member's attire consists of a "Charro" suit and sombrero. For the main part, they use violins, trumpets, a classical
guitar and a "vihuela" (a five string guitar). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ranchera music can tell a story, and use love, patriotism, and nature to make a magnificent melody. The music originates from the word "rancho"
meaning ranches. Coming from rural parts of Mexico, Ranchera music usually starts with "El Grito Mexicano" a yell that the musician or audience
member makes. Finally Ranchera music can be simallary compared to the tempo of a waltz, a polka or a bolero.
The last genre NorteГ±o is comprised of other music like "Tejano" or "Tex–Mex". This kind of music is very relatable to me and is personally one of
my favorite type of Mexican music. A twelve string guitar known as "bajo sexto" and the accordion are NorteГ±o's most characteristic instruments.
NorteГ±o music is usually played by a group of men or a band. The music is originated from migrated europeans who traveled to northern

Gang Violence And The United States
Gangs have been a part of American culture in the United States since the early 19th century when immigrant youth organized themselves into street
gangs as a means of urban and economic survival. Today, gang violence has reached an almost catastrophic level in the United States. Criminal street
gangs have become one of the most serious crime problems in California. Gang violence accounts for one of the largest personal threats to public
safety for nearly all the cities in this state. Salinas, California is a relatively small Central Coast agricultural town with a population of just over
150,000. The City of Salinas has been dealing with gang and youth violence for over 50 years. Salinas ' gang homicide victims are among the
youngest in the state. Over the past few years, youth gang involvement in Salinas has reached a critical level and gang–related homicides are at an
all–time high. Youth gang violence is a social problem that not only affects the individual, but the community as a whole. While there has been an
increase of gang–related issues lately, it is certainly not an unfamiliar or current problem for Salinas. The violent crime associated with organized street
gangs has a well–recognized and extensive history in the Salinas Valley. Youth are at the heart of gang violence as both perpetrators and victims. A
recent study concluded that Monterey County ranked number one in homicide victimization for youth between the ages of 10–24 in California for the
years 2009 and

Gangs In Prison Research Paper
The California Correctional Department says that there are 162,000 inmates in California prisons. From this high number of inmates there are 803
gang members, 900 associates to these gangs, 325 inactive gang members, and 1,050 gang dropouts. Inmates join a gang by racial and
demographically where your from. You might ask the question why in the world would someone join agang in prison, especially with all the violence
we see or hear on the television. Once you take a step on the prison grounds you fall into a whole new life and politics from the rest of the country. A
lot of prisoners will join a gang for protection against other prisoners so they wont become a victim of crime or be extorted from any predator inmates. A

The Aryan Brotherhood is to blame for much of the meth trafficking in the streets. Prison guards often work with gangs to bring drugs in the
prison for money from the gangs. If these guards are caught they sometimes are charged for racketeering but sometimes only fired from their job
and not charged with a crime. Prison gangs also smuggle cell phones to other inmates for money. This crime is often also helped by prison guards.
These guards are often bribed for money or threatened with violence if they do not listen to the gangs. Tobacco and illicit drugs are also smuggled
into the prisons by the prison gangs and guards for money. One pack of cigarettes can cost up to 200 dollars. Inmates will often trade cigarette
packs for drugs or vise versa. Postal stamps are also sold by the gangs since they can get it cheaper on the streets then buying it from the prison.
Low security inmates often smuggle the contraband in for the gangs since they are not being watched as close as the gang leaders or highly
ranked members. The low security inmates then call the gang leader or member on phones that have been smuggled in beforehand to coordinate
the smuggle. Gang members will get jobs with the prison so its easier to smuggle the contraband in. Any members or guards that are involved in
the smuggling will be paid by paypal or western union. This is often achieved by help from the outside of the prison like family members and
friends from the streets. Gangs often mark up the price of illegal contraband: (drugs, tobacco, cell phones, stamps ect.) , by 20,000 percent from the
street price. The gangs will only move a little bit of money at a time so law enforcement wont be able to catch

My Favorite Music Essay
Teenage years are the times for new experiences and music was no different as the experience marked with great memories of music that is very
nostalgic and can be attached to moments good or bad that make us reminisce when we hear the music of our child hood. I am Mexican and my
teenage years I spent in Mexico until I was sixteen when my family migrated to the united states however I didn't really understood English I can
honestly say that I like Rock En Espanol and would not hesitate to say that it is my favorite genre of music when I was a teenager, I will try my
best to share my favorite music as I reminisce on some great music in my past. As a teenager growing up in Mexico I wasn't really interested in
listening to music, as my interest were sports and television. The musical influences that I can recall in my early childhood, were those of my
parents. Who would listen to Corridos and Rancheras, which were a type of folk Mexican revolutionary music, they would sing about the
struggles in life during the Mexican civil war. As I grew up the type of music my friends listen to were Cumbias Colombianas and Rock En Espanol
those were my early memories of music which I still listen and enjoy today. I would listen to Rock En Espanol artist like CafГ© Tacuba, Caifanes,
Mana, Maldita Vecindad, Enanitos Verdes, and Fabulosos Cadillacs. I began listening more to the lyrics and the sound of the music for example,
Maldita Vecindad has a Rock sound that evolved into a Ska sound.

Mexican Culture, Culture And Cultural Awareness Of Mexico

  • 1. Mexican Culture, Culture And Cultural Awareness Of Mexico Cultural Awareness of Mexico Culture is the shared patterns of behaviors, characteristics, interactions and knowledge of a particular group of people. Culture encompasses what we wear, how we wear it, religion, food, music, our language and marriage (Zimmermann, 12 July 2017). Mexican traditional clothing combines European and native elements. Wool, cotton, silk, agave and bark are the fibers of choice across the country that make up Mexican clothing. Past Mexican clothing was dyed using natural local components found in plants. Imported from Europe aniline dyes was the first dying choice. Ancient Aztec clothing often colorful and loose fitting. Huipil, traditional garments worn by indigenous women of Central America and Central Mexico would have ribbons, lace and other intricate designs. These are just a few of Mexicans traditional clothing (Facts about Mexico, 2017). Mexican traditional food, beans, hot peppers and corn constitute the heart of most Mexican dishes. Consumed in all possible forms, corn is roasted or cooked in various different ways. Cooked Tortillas made from corn dough come in many sizes are thin and round. Tortillas accompanied most meals and are normally filled with meat or other ingredients. Mexicans eat a light breakfast of fruit and coffee. Dinner the most important meal of the day consists of soup, pasta, rice, and chicken normally served between two and four in the afternoon (Countries and their cultures 2017). • 2. American Street Gangs Chapter 4 Summary This week I read chapter 5 of American street gangs (old book) Tim Deleany mentioned 3 points of what happens inside a gang that many don't know, the first point is the categories they have based on the age the recruits are, the second point is the categories they are placed in depending on the activities they are involved, the third point is the process that involves the recruitment, punishment, and leaving the gang. At the conclusion of the paper I would be providing an experience my uncle went through when he was leaving the gang. The first point is what categories each recruit falls under, every street gang has a different view of it, many have four stages which are 8–11 years old "pee wees" the new recruits youngsters and 12–15 years old are the juniors, and 16–19 are the seniors in the gangs and 20 and older are the ancients which are the OG's the original gangsters are people that have been in a gang since a very young age many youngster looking up the OG because of the respect they get from the other people and the reputation have. ... • 3. Coqui Frog Research Paper Introduction Coqui frogs are some of the most common frogs found in Puerto Rico. They are frogs that live in rainforests and they don't go through the tadpole stage and their name comes from the unique night time calling sound (ko–kee) made by the male species. Description, Diet, Ect. The Coqui Frog is a small frog who has dorsal colors from brown, gray and green with highly variable color patterns. These frogs have large toe pads and they don't have a tadpole stage. Like most frogs who have webbed feet these frogs have no webbing between the toes. The coqui male frog chirps up to 90 decibels roughly as loud as a lawn mower or garbage disposal. Once its born the coqui frog only has a minute tail when its born but this quickly disappears. ... • 4. Analysis Of John Womack's Zapata And The Mexican Revolution The Mexican Revolution brought multiple parties and movements out of the woodwork. In John Womack's Zapata and the Mexican Revolution, a story of one state's drive for agrarian reform and its people's evolving mission was told, with Emiliano Zapata as a pivotal leader. The dynamics of the revolution, however, reach deeper than Womack's account portrays. While Womack documents the revolutionary path of the Zapatistas from the southern state of Morelos, the story of Pancho Villa, an arguably parallel character fighting for states in the North against the repressive powers of General Victoriano Huerta, reads more as a subplot. The writings of Samuel Brunk, Ana Maria Alonso, and Mariano Azuela shed light on the less simplistic dynamics of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His careful language exemplifies a quasi–diplomatic approach in controlling his followers. Brunk also emphasizes that "many other jefes [...] resented what Zapatista headquarters had become: the centralizing product of Zapata's interaction with urban intellectual parties" (350). This internal struggle stemming different actor's perspective on what was happening to Zapatismo provides a more nuanced look at a pivotal group in the Mexican Revolution. The image of a somewhat cohesive revolutionary party working towards peace put forth by Womack draws a stark line between the "bandit" enemy described by General Huerta and the Zapatistas. Brunk, in his writings on Zapata, challenges this narrative by exploring the gray space that does not allow for easy delineation between revolutionaries and bandits. Rather than existing as an arbitrary offshoot of Zapatismo, "banditry represented the pursuit of local political (and economic) goals" (Brunk, 349). Womack does acknowledge the "insoluble village rivalries that only compromise could ease", but does not relate them directly to feuds involving bandits (Womack, 233). The nature of local politics was arguably defined by the multiplicity of intrinsic power struggles over local democratization. As "each jefe sought to delegitimize the other in the eyes of Zapatista headquarters and this to gain an advantage in the local power struggle", a similar struggle emerged among ... • 5. Essay about Gang Violence: Problem on the Rise What ever happened to kids wanting saying they wanted to be a police officer, fireman, doctor or teacher when they grow up? Does anyone ever say, when I grow up I want to be in a gang? According to the National Gang Threat Assessment there are over one million gang members in California and over forty percent are under the age of eighteen. Just in Fresno alone there are over twelve thousand gang members and over 500 gangs (Overend). Gang violence is a growing problem and if we don't try to control it now it will be a bigger problem in the future. According to the National Gang History, gangs started out in India in the year 1200 AD when a group of criminals used to roam the town committing burglaries and crimes. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (Overend) "Out of the one million gang members about 400,000 are teens, 90%–94% are male." (Gang Statistics) When conducting a survey on gang violence I asked fifty people, "What are the top five gangs here in Fresno?" and the top five were Bulldogs, Surenos, Crips, Bloods, and Asian Boyz. The most known gang in Fresno are the Bulldogs. (Rosas) They represent themselves not so much by color but by the Fresno State Bulldog symbol. The Bulldog gang is the biggest gang here in Fresno with over 4,000 members. (Gang Statistics) Most Bulldog gang members usually have dog paws tattooed or many will get the whole dog face tatted on them. Bulldogs do not have any specific number or color to represent them, but Fresno State apparel is usually red, blue, black, or white. Surenos are another popular gang in Fresno, most surenos are Mexican, Hispanic, or Latino. Their color to wear or represent is blue, therefore they will carry a blue rag with them most of the time. Tatoos they usually have are "south side", the number 13, three dots (each dot stand for one word in "mi vida loca"), and when they have killed someone they will have a tear drop tattooed on the side of their eye. They will also use a rosary around there neck to show respect for god, but it is also something that represents the sureno gang in general. Bloods were originally known as the Piru gang. • 6. African American Gangs The two ethnic group I've chosen to discuss here are the Norteno and Sureno Hispanics, along with the Bloods and Crips of the African American cultures. Although the groups have several ethnic differences the political aspect of the sets they claim have several similarities. In terms of street gangs, Hispanic, and African American gangs dominate the world of gangs, in size, violence, drug distribution, and representation throughout the country and even internationally. Valdez states, "African–American street gangs adopted membership indicia commonly used by Latino Gangs" A common form for all gangs are to use graffiti, which is a way of marking their territory and or a way to show rival gang members that they have been into their neighborhoods and have disrespected their enemies. Bloods and Crips exist in smaller groups in the prison system, but usually have what appears to be some sort of truce, while serving their prison term. If they do form these small groups, it is because they are looking for protection. If the African American gang member decides to be part of the gang they usually decide to side with the prison gang, The Black Guerrilla Family, which is the largest African American prison gang. However, the Hispanic gang members in and out of prison are interdependent on each other's support and representation. is that the Hispanic gangs on the streets are already representing their prison gangs, as they serve as the foot soldiers that earn money for their brothers that are serving time. Once the Norteno or Sureno member arrives into the prison he is immediate sought out and taken into the protection of his gang. • 8. 20th Century Gangs Research Paper Since the 1800's gangs as we all know have a history in the United States. The United States became a melting pot during this time as people of many ethnicities and religions entered the United States. Many of the new immigrants joined gangs in order to gain a group identity, protect themselves against other rival groups both immigrant based and natural born citizens, and build a unified presence. The five corners in new York cityis a prime example of immigrant based gangs just trying to protect themselves and gain identity in the new world. Even though the street gangs of the 19th century were widely feared by other citizens and rival gangs, they don't hold a candle to the threat that the gangs we have today to the safety of society. The delinquent activities of the street gangs of the early 20th century involved petty crimes and fighting with their rival gangs. By the end of the 20th Century gangs had became involved in more heinous crimes. By that time law enforcement officials had come ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The huge growth in gangs and gang membership slowed during the late 1990s 27,900 gangs with 774,000 gang members were active in the United States in 2008. • 9. Narco Propaganda Research Paper Narco–Propaganda in the Mexican Drug War Organized crime is a serious threat to the state and civil society (though boundaries have been blurred between cartels and police/military) Anthropology of crime deconstructs criminalizing discourses of the state but we also need to deconstrust discourses generated by organized crime groups (who have relative autonomy from the state). Mexican organized groups, or "cartels", produce a quasi–political discourse– a form of narco propaganda. Narco propaganda is not a fully formed political ideology but is an important part of public discourse in Mexico (though data is mysterious and ambiguous). • 11. Analysis Of John Steinbeck 's ' The Salad Bowl ' Essay Blood On The Leaves or Blood In The Fields When viewers think of Salinas, California they usually picture its fertile fields and lush central coast. The usual ethnic presence you see around Salinas is Hispanic people since two–thirds of the population is of Mexican descent. Salinas has always been viewed as a small town, prominently as a farming area known for vegetables and salad greens. Very often, you're almost certainly eating something that is from or around the area. Furthermore, since so many vegetables are produced here locals nicknamed Salinas "The Salad Bowl". Few people actually know Salas is the birthplace of famous author John Steinbeck, who happens to mention this small town quite often. Although Salinas, California is rich in land and value it is also known as a headquarters of two deadly prison gangs. More recently, this farming community has begun to see a lot of change for the past twenty–five years. As the population continued to grow, the violence also grew with it. Now many of the neighboring towns just see Salinas as a deadly war zone being fought on the streets. As a viewer from the neighboring town of Watsonville, we need this community to find peace of mind, and stop gang violence from spilling into their community. Since the 1990's the community of Salinas sadly buried hundreds of young men and women, many of them due to gang–related homicides or innocent victims caught in the war zone's crossfire. Saying you like the music is saying a lot because there are various types. There is a lot more to the music than the genres of mariachi and salsa. The reason for this is the music is a product of transculturation. It merges the cultures of Africans, Indigenous, and Europeans. Not only this but Latin America covers a whole lot of land from Mexico down Venezuela and even consisting of the Caribbean islands of Cuba, Jamaica, Haiti, and the Dominican Republic. It is inarguable that the gang problem has become more entrenched, over the past 25 years, especially here locally in Porterville. There are many different gangs in California, but there is a strong presence of hispanic gangs. During 1980's, California street gangs were divided into Surenos and Nortenos. Some say the North–South battle started in the 1950s in a California prison, where two prisoners fought over a pair of shoes. One inmate formed the Mexican Mafia for SureГ±os, and the other prisoner formed Nuestra Familia for NorteГ±os, which is how the division was created. In the excerpt of "How to Tame a wild Tongue" by Gloria Anzaldua, the author does an excellent job of explaining how identity and language blend right together. By hearing someone speak their language one could determine a person's cultural values and their identity. In the excerpt Anzaldua says, "For a people who cannot entirely identify with either standard Spanish or English, what recourse is left to them but to create their own language?" One of the more underground gang structures are prison gangs. The Nuestra Familia may not be in the news as much anymore compared to other gangs, but they are nothing to be taken lightly. After the formal divide Nuestra Familia began making allies with other Californian Prison gangs like the Black Guerilla family to defeat a common enemy, The Mexican Mafia. On the other side the Mexican Mafia teamed up with the Aryan Brotherhood to combat the newly formed Nuestra Familia and Black Guerilla Family alliance. As a teenager growing up in Mexico I wasn't really interested in listening to music, as my interest were sports and television. The musical influences that I can recall in my early childhood, were those of my parents.
