2. Before producing my product I have to consider who my target audience would be. I decided that I wanted to aim my magazine at both male and females aged 16 – 24. I chose this age bracket because I knew that I wanted to produce an indie/rock genre and this is the most common age range to listen to that genre. I feel this is a good target audience because that is the most common age range to buy a music magazine. This is a picture of myself with some friends. I think this a great picture to represent my genre.
3. This is my model for my shoot, I think he represents my genre very well. It was important I found someone suitable looking to make my magazine look genuine.
4. My model was dressed very similarly to this. I chose this as I felt it was a strong representation to my genre and magazine. I wanted the person for my main image so appear to be a strong and confident character, a very traditional representation of men. I think the unique style of clothing backs this. The lumberjack style shirt sis a traditional representation of a man. I wanted my model to look very manly and boyish however with a modern femininity about his clothing.
5. I chose this hairstyle as it is a modern look for men, which is a factor I wanted to portray. It suggests that this artist is current. The way in which I asked my model to pose shows a modern and traditional representation of men. By demonstrating the opening of his jacket could suggest a gentleman-like affect however it could also have sexual connotations towards women. I think this pose is toned down enough to attract both male and females. The choice of clothing for my model I feel is perfect for my genre. It is showing a confident male figure by the jeans and lumberjack shirt, however a sense of unique style by the sunglasses belt. Having a contrasting style jacket to the shirt adds some quirkiness to the image.
6. My choice of words on this page I feel helps with my representation. I have gone more quick strong to the point sell lines. I went for very American like features. I feel this comes out most strongly in the title and subheadings. I asked my model to have a very boyish and slouched pose and I wanted him to have a serious expression. This is a modern representation of men, to look manly and confident in their stance. Looking back now I think a softer expression in the face could have worked better. By posing with the guitar is automatically gives the reader an assumption to the genre of music from this artist. I think this benefits my magazine as this ties in well with the genre. I chose to use slang words and phrases within my contents to make it friendly. ‘Busk your way the top’ this has connotations of everyday people who could be buying this magazine could have a career like his. Slang terms such as ‘flying solo’ suggest that the magazine is modern. However this is also a traditional representation of men as it indicates they are stable to work on their own.
7. I feel the style and layout to my double page spread is very modern therefore I think it will appeal to my target audience. I have used interesting font, different uses of information instead of only blocks of text which makes the page more visually effective. I have stuck to the three colours to achieve continuity. I think these are very modern colours that will appeal a young audience. The topic I have chosen to discuss within the article is about my models new upcoming career. The subject is one that the reader will find interesting as this will be something they are interested in (since the bought the magazine) it shows him to be a very independent male which is a modern representation of men. I think this personality will be a factor of interest for the reader because it is a ‘cool’ thing for young people to have their own independence and to do things new and exciting. Tag lines such as ‘world exclusive’ (top left) is something the reader will be drawn to because it is a necessity within young social life to be one of the first to know things, especially media related.
