Question 2 meida evaluation
1. In what Ways does your media
product use, develop or challenge
forms and conventions of real media
products.
2. Introduction
I tried to show similarities of magazines that I
was inspired from to the Magazine cover,
contents page and double page spread which I
created.
In this process, I used Photoshop to develop
my ideas, this was a very good program to
used which made it look more professional.
3. Looking back to planning
In my pitch I said I wanted to have a blue colour scheme for the
double page spread to be red and for the contents page and the
front cover to be blue. I have kept to these colour schemes
although I have added a few features of the red colour on the
front cover and the contents page. It wasn’t a dramatic colour
change as I had already planned to use the colour in the double
page spread.
In addition, I decided to use these slight colour changes as it shows a
colourful contrast of the blue and red may suggest it appeals to both
genders.
4. Flat plans
• I tried to keep the flat plan layout as much as
possible but I found that some of aspects of
the original design layout that look better in
places or not using at all. For example, I first
began making a contents page and found it
didn’t work well so I re-started and found the
newly improved contents page worked muc
better.
5.
6.
7. The similarities that real media
magazines and mine shared
The masthead is presented very
clear which shows the audience
what magazine it is as it is a very
well established magazine
company.
Similarly, I made my
masthead clear so the
audience would be
able to realise where
the title was from. This shows a more simple but
bold look to the masthead.
The model is positioned in front of the
‘Q’. This shows use of the lasso tool.
I have similarly used the lasso tool to
position the model in front of the
writing . In addition, I used this tool to
show that my model in front of the
masthead to show the high power of
the magazine.
8. This also suggests that it is
a well established
magazine company.
As you can see, I used
the lasso tool to create
similarities between real
magazines. This makes
the magazine cover look
far more professional
and well presented.
In the Q magazine edition which I
I similarly used the top of the page looked at to make my magazine look
for extra text that the reader could more professional and a higher
see. quality magazine.
9. The main image
This was the image that is used in the
magazine cover shown In comparison to
real life media production such a ‘rolling
stones-Madonna’ issue.
12. I used real-life functions of what magazines
use such as page number and web
addresses. This shows the reader that they
can access the on-line version as well as
the magazine. This relates to the
distribution question also as the company
has a web address as well as the magazine.
This shows that the magazine is part of an
media institution.
13. The main story
I tried to include the
‘Betty Davison’ story as
much as possible. This
shows the reader that
Betty Davison is the
main story as she is
featured the most.
14.
15. The magazines I looked at and they
represented these elements
All of these magazine shows these elements of a real life magazine. They
use barcoding, issue dating and price.
16. Pricing, barcoding and date
This is the bar-coding for Q
magazine that lady gaga was
featured in.
As you can see, the bar-code, issue
date and price are all together.
Similarly to my magazine, this magazine uses a barcode so that it is sellable
and can be tracked. This is visible but no distracting from the main content
that is on the page.
I have similarly done this by using the date, pricing and
barcoding. This is so the magazine can be sold. I have tried
to make this discrete as it is not the initial part of the
layout.
