Evaluation 1
1. What ways does your media product
use, develop or challenge forms and
conventions of a real media
product?
Evaluation 1
2. Above is an actual real
media product, when
observing a typical rap
magazine like this the
background generally
tends to be white or one
basic background colour
under the cover image.
CHALLENGE
Real media
product My product
This magazine of mine below
challenged the convention of a real
life media products as I didn't have a
typical one colour background but
rather used the whole image, doing
this enabled my magazine cover to
look much more unique than others
and appeal to different types of
readers.
3. This is a small segments from
the existing magazine I
previously shown, this storyline
is located high in the top hand
corner of the magazine very
close towards the models face,
this in my opinion looked very
untidy and hard to read.
I then developed this in my own work by
putting the story line more below the
face and in line with the magazine using
a Guide tool to accurately place the text.
This way my magazine cover is more easy
on the eye & looks fluent. Another way I
developed this is changing the font size
to a smaller size this enables more room
for other features, whereas the existing
magazine took a huge quantity of space
with the story line text.

4. Above is a masthead on a
contents page, this caught my
eye as it looks very slick, bald
and neat. It doesn't over
complicate the whole page and
allows the readers to know what
page they are reading on,
however it does lack a bit of
effect and features to make it
stand out.(real content
masthead magazine)
My product
Here as you can see is my version of the
masthead in my contents page. My research
into the contents masthead proves that I have
complied with a real existing media product
and actually developed it. I mentioned how
the previous masthead was very bland and
lacked some effect here I added a mirror effect
on some letters such as "E" this made my
masthead look more appealing and stand out
5. Mistakes
When looking at my very own media product I can find many areas where I could
have made great improvements for instance positioning, the texts of my media
product in my perspective look very cramped however I did have a chance to fix it
up which I did a bit using a lock guide on Adobe Photoshop.
A way I could have resolved this is to do more further music magazine research to
get a understanding of a real media product and somewhat conform with the
convention and look at its proportions and structure.
Another area I feel I lacked in a lot was the effects on the texts of my magazine, for
instance adding a backdrop colour. When looking at other media products I found
they made majority of their texts in the cover have a bit of a glow or hint of
another mutual colour.
I could have resolved this issue if I took more attention on my work rather than
hastening and trying to complete it.
6. What went well
I am extremely happy in the way I challenged the conventions of a real media
product for example real media products tend to have a plain coloured
background so the focus of the cover model is more emphasised.
In contrast I did the opposite and used my whole length of my photo allowing the
background and scenery to be exposed. I believe this went well and made my
magazine look very unique.
