LOOKING BACK AT YOUR PRELIMINARY
TASK, WHAT DO YOU FEEL YOU HAVE
LEARNT IN THE PROGRESSION FROM IT TO
THE FULL PRODUCT?
2. FRONT COVER
After looking back at my school magazine I
noticed how unprofessional and messy in it
looked in comparison to my music
magazine. Since creating my preliminary
task, my techniques in design and software
has improved greatly. My knowledge of the
conventions of magazines has also
developed as I did more research and
gathered more information this time round
compared to last time. This has helped my
music magazine look more professional,
appeal to my target audience more and
look more authentic compared to the
preliminary task.
By comparing the two front covers I’ve created, there’s a noticeably large difference between the two.
By researching conventions, and how to use the different software's the quality, style, layout and my
techniques have developed greatly. I have added more magazine conventions in my music magazine
to make it seem more realistic; some of the conventions I have included that I didn’t use in the
preliminary task are skylines, puff, slogan, colour scheme, layout design, and anchorage text. Also
whilst creating the preliminary magazine I was new to AdobeInDesign and I didn’t understand how to
use the software; however after researching more and using the software more by the time I was
creating my music magazine I understood and new how to use the software. This allowed me to use
more techniques and learn new techniques to add to my magazine. Also by using PicMonkey to edit my
images I made the image stand out more and more visually appealing than the preliminary task.
3. CONTENTS PAGE
After comparing the two contents pages I have
created, It show that a lot more skill, time,
effort and techniques have been used in my
music magazine. With my preliminary task I
didn’t plan where I was going to place things,
and what would be included on the page, and I
didn’t do any research into the conventions of
magazines. However with my music magazine
I planned what to include and where to put
them so it didn’t seem unprofessional and
messy. I also added a lot more detail in my
music magazine, by adding issue number,
month edition and editors note.
Whilst creating the whole of my music magazine I realised how much more effort and time I put into
my music magazine compared to the preliminary task. However with constructing the music magazine
it took a lot more time and patience to make it visually appealing for my target audience. I also wanted
to make it as professional as possible, and as authentic as a real media product. I made sure the
layout design fit and matched all three products in my music magazine to make it continuous; I also
used the same colour scheme throughout to produce continuity thought my products.
4. OVERALL
Overall the outcome of my skills, techniques, design and
ability to use the different software's has progressed greatly
since making my preliminary task. I have learned more skills,
and have been able to look into more real media products to
learn the conventions. This has allowed me to make my
music magazine as authentic, modern and visually appealing
to my target audience.
