Question 7
1. QUESTION 7: LOOKING BACK AT
YOUR PRELIMINARY TASK, WHAT
DO YOU FEEL YOU HAVE LEARNT
IN THE PROGRESSION FROM IT TO
THE FINAL PRODUCT?
2. PRELIMINARY TASK
For my preliminary task I used a program called Pages. It’s a
program similar to Microsoft Word, however it’s more useful
for posters and leaflets. I found that using Pages for my
preliminary task was very helpful and simple. However Pages
isn’t very advanced and it doesn’t do all the things that
Photoshop does. On Photoshop you can edit pictures, text
colours in such complex ways you can do almost anything.
However on Pages there isn’t the option to edits photos in
such complexity.
3. RESEARCH
For my preliminary task I only researched between 3-5 school
magazines and I don’t think that this was enough research
for me to then go and create my own school magazine.
However when creating my final product I researched well
over 15 different music magazines. I definitely learnt that the
more research you do, the better your work will look at the
end. I think it’s good to do lots of research because then you
can have a really good idea about what other people do with
their magazines and then I can find lots of inspirational
things to include in my magazine. It also helps to identify
necessary codes and conventions.
4. IMAGES
The images I took for my preliminary task were taken in the
school grounds and therefore the scenery wasn’t as
professional looking as it was in my final magazine. I also
didn’t put an edit on my images and some of the colours
weren’t accurate and similar to real life which decreases the
professionalism of the overall look.
Whereas on my final product I edited my images and edited
the vibrancy of my images to add an ‘airbrush’ feel to my
photos and accentuate my model.
5. COLOURS
With my preliminary task I didn’t have specific colours that
fitted a target audience as that was something that didn’t
cross my mind in the process. However when creating my
final magazine I made sure that I chose a couple of main
colours and maintained them throughout my magazine to
keep a consistent theme. I also chose my colours by thinking
about what my target audience like as this all links together.
Overall my preliminary task looks a bit all of the place with no
consistent theme whereas my final product looks neat, well
structured and professional, and all the research and
planning I done in between has helped me to achieve this.
