3. Preliminary Task Feedback:
This is the feedback from my tutor on my Research and
Planning, Cover and Contents Page, Evaluation from my
preliminary task. I was happy with the feedback I was
given and agree with the comments my tutor has given
me. When making my final product I aimed to and hope I
have done improved overall and alsotaken the feedback
into consideration.
In the evaluation of my own products I have stated these points and I also made these the
main point that I will try to improve on by doing more research and testing out different things
to see what looks good:
‘The main disappointment about my final front cover is the font and size of the cover lines. I
think they make the front cover look unprofessional and it really puts a downer on the whole
main product. I used the colour green for the cover lines as it is ‘Wyke colour’ yet I don’t want
my target audience to link the colour green with money and wealth as you do not have to be
rich to go to the college. I also do not like where I have placed the main cover line. Overall if I
did this task again I would do more research into cover lines: where they usually are on a
magazine, colours that work well together and mainly fonts and sizes’
4. Q7. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the
progression for it to the full product?
Date:
On my preliminary task I wasn’t very aware as to what my target audience was going to
be therefor I didn’t do any research into how often I would release my college magazine.
I decided to release my music magazine every month after doing some research into my
target audience. The main differences between dates on both magazines are the font,
positioning and how I presented the date ‘April’ compared to ‘November 2012’. I chose
to present my music magazine date how I have as I have looked at a lot of existing
magazines within my genre.
Page Numbers:
The page numbers on my work still look very similar however I have tried to make the
page titles look more like they belong with the page numbers also the page numbers and
titles are closer together I think this makes my contents look a lot more like a real
magazine
Images:
Both of these contents have images which relate to the genre of the magazine however I
have edited my music magazine images to make it look more conventional and also make
the page have a better vibe to it. Also I have done a lot of research into where magazines
pace their images and I think this shows in my work.
Footer:
On my music magazine I have added a footer and I think this adds to my use of
conventions. Also the V-Festival logo relates to my target audience.
Overall when making my contents page I believe I have learnt the most about the
layout of magazines. My music magazine has an overall better layout to my contents
page. I have tried to challenge some conventions on my contents page and I think this
shows that I have got a lot more confident with my own ideas and the software I used
to make my contents page: Photoshop.
5. Q7. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the
progression for it to the full product?
I believe it is clear to see that I have done much, much, much
more research in relation to existing magazines, conventions,
target audience, house style, features, images, costume etc. in
my music magazine than I did on my preliminary task. As cliché
as it sounds the most vital thing I have learnt in the
progression from my preliminary task to my full product is that
the more research you do into things such as what I mentioned
earlier the more you can build your product to what you find
and the better your overall product looks. I believe I have done
a substantial amount of research and have tried to use my
research when making my magazine as much as I can. Things
for example or colour scheme, what is most important to a
reader, price, release dates, costume, celebrities, brands.
Another thing I have learnt is how to use the tools on
Photoshop more productively and also how to make the tools
benefit my image by making it look better than it originally did.
