Canadian Universal Healthcare
Comparison Presentation Assignment: 5| Health Economics, HSA 510, Dr. Lewis Mustard| Kristie Parker, December 19, 2012|
1. Select three to four main aspects that you discovered in your research to highlight.
The first thing that I would like to highlight in my research of Canadian universal healthcare vs. US healthcare is that Canadian health care is
federally funded and covers mostly all of the medical services used by the residents. The US has healthcare for the people but is covered at the
citizens' expense via an insurance company. The citizens are responsible for maintaining the premiums set by the insurance companies via the employer
of the citizens or privately attained. However, this could explain why nearly 50 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Public Administration: All administration of thehealth insurance must be carried out by a public authority on a nonprofit basis. B. Comprehensiveness:
All necessary health services including hospitals, physicians, surgical dentists, must be insured. C. Universality: All insured residents are entitled to
the same level of health care. D. Portability: Even if the residents move to a different province or territory, they are still entitled to coverage from their
home province during a minimum waiting period. E. Accessibility: All insured persons have reasonable access to health care facilities.

To synthesize my findings would be to look at the current "Obamacare" that has been adopted into our government to help with the 50 million plus
Americans that are without health insurance now.
The Health Care Act shows that "Obamacare" is individually mandated, penalty for not buying insurance is $695 minimum, and the employer is
mandated for companies with over fifty employees. A $750 per employee for companies over 50 employees for penalties of employers not providing
insurance; subsized insurance for anyone earning up to 400% of poverty level; children can stay on parents' plan until age 26; and these benefits are
both annual and lifetime basis, retroactive rescinding of coverage is forbidden; pre–existing conditions that insurers are required

A Theory Of Ontology And A Position On The Problem Of...
To understanding how we use language to describe the world, we need theories to describe and explain our reality. The title quote is taken from
Willard Van Orman Quine's, "On What There Is", in which he presents a theory of ontology and a position on the problem of universals. The problem
of universals questions the existence of universals. Universals are properties and relations which are held in common by shared qualities. In
comparison, particulars are concrete entities. The debate is centred around two opposing viewpoints – nominalist and realists. Realists believe in
universals, nominalists do not. While realists endorse both universals and particulars, nominalists reject the notion of universals and only accept the
existence of particulars. Consequently, there is disagreement among philosophers whether universals exist. Discussion of the titled quote follows an
examination of the One Over Many argument which leads to the problem of universals. In this essay, I show that I agree with the title statement and
will argue in favour of a nominalist account of universals. I will focus primarily on Quine's argument for nominalist semantics. This argument will be
presented by questioning the universal 'redness' and the role of meanings. In examining arguments made by Armstrong and subsequently presenting a
response to these critiques via the analysis of Devitt, I will also discuss the infinite regress problem and the validity of the One Over Many argument.
My conclusion will be

Should the United States have Universal Healthcare?
The question of Universal Healthcare in the United States has valid and non valid arguments with supporters on both sides of the issue. Millions of
Americans do not have affordable health care insurance. The main question is who is responsible to provide this? Is it feasible for government to pay
for the lack of health care by taxpayer's dollars? Should you be responsible for yourselves or should you be compensated by the government?
Unemployment is at record high making health insurance less attainable or affordable than ever. In most cases, additional restrictions or... Show more

Healthcare should be a right for all U.S. citizens because not only would it drastically lower costs from the current healthcare system for both the
individual and the government, but also greatly improve healthcare rankings and satisfy the majority of the population. By expanding coverage to all
U.S. citizens, universal healthcare would significantly lower healthcare costs for both the individual and the government. Without a doubt, something
should be done to fix the current healthcare system; it is just a matter of what should be done. Over the past several years, the cost of healthcare in the
U.S. has risen significantly and does not seem to lower, surpassing "$2.2 trillion in 2007". Universal Health Care is a "Social Program", not "socialized
medicine"; under Universal Health Care, one can choose any doctor(s) or public hospital (A "private" hospital, even in the U.S.A. today, is just that. A
hospital that is exclusive to the general population according to the wealth and contacts of an individual. There is no "out of network" doctor, hospital
or medical facility in the program.
However, the same lack of restrictions applies. In any case, approximately 85% of the populations having Universal Health Care are very happy with
the system. A much, much higher percentage

Universal Healthcare Essay
Introduction
Universal Healthcare is a system under which basic health needs can be paid by a single government payer. Basic health care needs include treatment
for urgent, emergent, preventative, reconstructive, routine, and chronic care. The United States is the only wealthy and industrialized country that
does not universal health care, however, does have a publicly funded government health care program for the elderly, disabled, military service, and
veterans. Programs like these only cover one quarter of the U.S. population.
Universal healthcare can be thought as similar to a single–pay health care system. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, many of these people who are uninsured "delay" treatment until it is absolutely necessary for them to see a doctor (Universal Health
Care). By this time most of these patients have reached a point in their sickness where there is far more treatment needed, and therefore, costs more
money. Consequently, this has an effect of places who are established to help the uninsured since they take in so many losses many of these
establishments are forced to cut back on services or even be forced to shut down (Universal Health Care). To look at it in simple terms, Universal
Health care would give everyone a right to carry some form of health coverage. As people who pay taxes, they would be getting coverage for things
important in their life. This includes health care. These people would be able to be covered for "preventive care, pregnancy and childbirth, acute,
chronic and catastrophic conditions, rehabilitation and end–of–life care" with no bearing on their economic condition (Howard, 2007, p. B.7).
Benefits of Universal Health Care
Implementing a universal health care system would not necessarily force everyone to fall into the realm of having no options. One argue that by
putting Universal Health Care into practice here in the united states, Americans would be covered and for those who didn't like the system would be
allowed to choose other health care alternatives

Universal Health Care : Universal Healthcare
Universal Healthcare in the USA The campaign for some form of universal health care has spanned practically a century in the USA and has been
the subject of political debate since the early part of the 20th century. Recent reforms remain an active and urgent political issue. Universal Health
Care has been one of the leading public issues in America and in recent times this issue has risen to the fore, because of its increasing prevalence in
the government, market, and civil sectors. In this essay, I will be looking at why this issue can and does affect everyone, no matter which sectors we
look at. I will be taking an in–depth look at the many reasons why this public issue is worth caring about and why it is such a hotly contested subject
in today's politics, jobs, and even our homes. This is an incredibly important issue that should concern us all, but before we can start working on how
to make this public issue better, we must first understand why it is a public issue. To begin, let us start by breaking down each section of the public
issue triangle, we will do this by being with one of the most well–known and influential sectors, that is the American Government. Who should get
health care? How should we pay for it? Do we have a responsibility to ensure all our citizens get the same level, health care, regardless of their station
in life? These are all questions that

Universal Health Coverage
U.S Should Implement Universal Health Coverage
Why do people remain uninsured? According to the Kaiser Family Foundation (KFF), "Even under the Affordable Care Act (ACA), many
uninsured people cite the high cost of insurance as the main reason they lack coverage"(Key Facts) "In 2015, 46% of uninsured adults said that
they tried to get coverage but did not because it was too expensive"(Key Facts). Many people do not have access to coverage through a job, and
some people, particularly poor adults in states that did not expand Medicaid, remain ineligible for financial assistance for coverage. Some people who
are eligible for financial assistance under the ACA may not know they can get help, and others may still find the cost of coverage too expensive....

Against Universal Health Care
Universal health care is a program where every one in the country has medical coverage for surgery, illness, and treatments that would cause problems
with your health. The United States is currently the only industrialized country that has no universal health care. Universal health care is a
controversial topic because people don't know if they want it here in the United States. Some reasons why people might want it is because it gives
everyone coverage as long as you are a citizen of that country. A reason why you would not want a universal system is because the coverage you get
may not cover certain operations. Although universal health care may sound appealing, it actually has flaws. Universal Health Care should not be

Every patients main concern when going to a hospital is to get a surgery to fix a problem that they have, or to receive prescriptions for illnesses and
diseases. But a factor most probably are not worried about when they go to a hospital is how they are being treated. Doctors already have a difficult
task to perform, but overcrowding the hospitals will cause them to be busy and possibly conduct their job with out the amount of care that is required.
Giving out prescriptions in a hospital could also be effected. Patients vital medicine could be mixed up with someone else's and cause even more
harm. The wait time in a hospital for an operation is also effected by over population. In the United States there is already about a 2 hour wait time
in each hospital that you go to (Mortal Peril). Adding a universal health care system would only cause that time to increase. There are some cases
where the operation cannot be delayed because of excessive bleeding or a lady about to give birth. Both of these examples need to be treated within a
certain amount of time or the patient could possibly die. The graph below shows how other countries wait times with a universal healthcare system

The Universal Theme Of Power In Olemet's Play Oleanna
Through italics, capitalization, and length of discourse per character, Mamet's play Oleanna develops the universal idea of power as a constant struggle
amplified by gender tension and the human tendency to crave power.
Mamet uses length of speech and interruptions to demonstrate that people become desperate when powerless and will do anything to regain power. The
play begins with a long monologue by John. He talks on the phone and completely ignores Carol, because she holds little power in the relationship
of professor and student. John is enveloped in his own world and pays no attention to Carol. The phone is a symbol of power for John and he uses
it to interrupt Carol and belittles her perspective. Near the end of Act One, Carol seems like she is gathering the courage to tell John a secret about
her life that she has never told anyone before, but the phone interrupts: "'All of my life...' (The phone rings.)... (JOHN goes to the phone and picks it
up)" and he continues to argue on the phone for an entire page (Mamet 38). Carol is powerless and therefore insignificant, so John ignores her and
worries about his house. Power is a finite resource; consequently, people compete for the limited power. Mamet uses interruptions and length of
dialogue to express who is in control. Carol has gained the upper hand as Act Three begins. John attempts to lecture Carol like he has done in all the
previous acts, however, Carol interjects:
CAROL: I was most surprised you asked me.

Universal Health Care
Universal Health Care is defined as the belief that all citizens should have access to affordable, high–quality medical care (Anderson, 2013). Currently
there are 46 million that do not have health coverage in the United states and this would drastically increase to 72 million if a health reform was not
passed (The Economic Case for Health Care Reform, 2012)Why the United States is the last to adopt this government mandated insurance coverage,
is possibly one of the most widely asked question around the nation. This, however; is all in the process of changing and will be completed by 2014
with the passing and implantation of Obama–care. There are three systems or levels of coverage under Universal Health Care; Single Payer, Two–Tier,

Even though this has already taken effect and some people have already seen some changes, there are still many more changes to be made before
the US starts to see a difference in not once the number of people covered but the deficit as well. This year, (2013) people and small business can
start to purchase their insurance during a set open enrolment time frame but the tax credit will not become available until 2014. You will only receive
this credit if you your income is between 100% and 400% under the poverty level.
The Congressional Budget office believes that this plan will lower future deficits and the future Medicare spending (Carney, 2012). In 2011 the
payout for Medicare and Medicaid was over 900 billion dollars (Is Medicare Spending the Biggest Driver of the Deficit, 2012). The Current system in
the United States denies access to health care based on the person's ability to pay for the coverage before services are required. Under a universal
health care system all would have access to the affordable medical care and in some cases be reimbursed some of the cost

Universal Preamble Of The Universal Declaration Of Human...
Freedom, Webster's dictionary defines freedom as the power or right to speak, act or think as one wants without hindrance or restraint. I believe that
freedom is the fundamental right that all humans are born with regardless of their status or whatever label that has been put on them. Freedom is what
unites all people in the sense that we are all free to make whatever we want of ourselves; to do, say and think what we please without any unjust
consequence. In the opening words of the preamble of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights that the United Nations composed, it states
"Recognition of the inherent dignity and of the equal and inalienable rights of all the members of the human family is the foundation of freedom." In

Universal Governmental Programs : Universal And Targeted...
In today's society, two types of major governmental programs – universal and targeted –are used all over the world in aims to reduce poverty and help
the poor get above the poverty line. Universal governmental programs are programs that give need and benefits to anyone in the country no matter how
much wealth or income they have. Countries like, Canada, United Kingdom, Germany and Sweden have a universal health care system, where
everyone receives free healthcare. Targeted, also known as means–tested programs are programs that are only given to families and individuals that fall
below a certain income level. The United States uses the targeted governmental programs for all forms of benefits. The largest targeted governmental
program seen in the United States is the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), also known as food stamps. In order to qualify for
SNAP families must fall below a certain income level and must demonstrate a need for assistance. In recent times, universal governmental programs
have received most of the support over targeted programs for many reasons.
Of the two governmental programs, universal benefits are more widely accepted among citizens than targeted (Nelson, 2004). These methods are both
used to reduce poverty and income inequality. Poverty resorts from many things in a country, some of those things are work rates and wages, some
people work all day and all night but do not make enough money to get out of poverty. Some families' incomes

Abstract
Universal Design is all around us, not just in some of the products that we use but also in education. According to one article "Universal design in
education is a framework of instruction that aims to be inclusive of different learning preferences and learners" (Black, D. R., Weinberg, L. A., &
Brodwin, M. G, 2015). There are so many different approaches that a teacher can use in the classroom involving universal design. In the use of
universal design there is also a wide range of practices that I as a special education teacher can use in the classroom. Universal Design in Education

In the article Universal Design for Early Childhood Education: Ensuring Access and Equity for All it states that "children are not defined by their
disability, but rather, their disability represents a characteristic, one mere facet of who they are and how they interact with the world" (Darragh, J.
2007). As a special education teacher I need to be open to new ideas on how to teach my students. I will have students with a wide range of
disabilities from mild to moderate to severe. Incorporating universal design in my lessons and within my classroom is just one practice that will help
my students. Universal design opens up the doors to so many new ideas that can be used in the classroom to help adapt lessons for my students. As a
special education teacher I realize that not every student will learn the same way, each of my students will have their own way of learning some might
pick things up quickly while others might take some time. In my classroom I can use the SmartBoard to help in many different types of lessons from
math through science and even English. My students can use the computer to play fun and instructional games that can help with speech and language
and even math. In conclusion, Universal design has opened up so many different doors for teachers in and outside of the classroom. From the use of

Universal Human Rights And Universal Rights
Universal human rights are those that apply to everyone no matter where they come from, who they are or what they do. They are held by the
individual person and protect them from other people and/or collectives (Bell,1999). Human rights instruments found today are also compared to those
in religions and ancient civilisations that have contributed towards the understanding of human dignity (James, 2007). There are many arguments on
whether human rights are universally achievable and if they have already been achieved. This essay will put forward different perspectives on this
issue. Such as how the claimed universal human rights are not universal, why they are not, and solutions to this issue to help them become achievable.

Even though countries of the world have adopted these crucial rights that are universal, it does not mean they can continue to agree on a much wider
range of rights to universally adopt. However, this also does not prohibit the possibility of this happening. On the other hand, just because all countries
agreed to these rights, human rights violations still occur off the record and while institutions such as 'Amnesty International' and 'Human Rights
Watch' try to expose these instance of abuse, this does not stop the situation occur, leaving these rights not actually universal at all because not
everyone's rights are respected (Bell, 1999).
Author Charles Taylor, thinks that the 'thin' list of current universal rights should be expanded. He thinks participants in a cross–cultural dialogue
should remain impartial to try a reconcile differences and allow for more agreed up universal rights to be established (Bell, 1999). If this was to
occur, then this would allow for the possibility for completely universal human rights to be established as people from different cultures with different
views and ideologies would be able to come to some sort of agreement on what these rights should be. Charles Taylor states "we should agree on the
norms while disagreeing on why they were the right norms, and we should be content to live in this consensus,

Universal Health Care Universal Or Privatized?
Health Care in the US: Universal or Privatized?
A highly debated topic in the United States, should health care be a universal government funded system, or remain privatized? Our country has been
raised using capitalistic values, favoring privatization over socialism. But has our health care system fallen by the way–side, and become a
sub–standard system in the world? I will be referencing 'Health, United States, 2012: With Special Feature on Emergency Care' and 'The Quality of
Health Care Delivered to Adults in the United States' for statistics on our current health care system, and 'Universal Mandatory Health Insurance In The

Beginning around 1940, the Dutch government has been working towards implementing a universal health care system in three stages. The first stage
was to "promote the public health system, and guarantee a minimum level of quality. Coverage included physician services, prescription drugs,
hospitalization (365 days), maternity care, dental care for children, some paramedical care, and some medical devices" The second stage was cost
containment. In the late 1960's, the Dutch government became worried about the uncontrolled growth of health care spending. In 1983, the
government decided to replace the open–ended hospital reimbursement system with a budgeting system. The Health Care Prices Act (1982) enabled the
government to control physicians' fees and, in a later stage their total revenues. The third stage was efficiently managing competition, in 1987; a
committee proposed a market–oriented health care reform and a national health insurance system. This made the private insurance companies focus on
incentives, and competition to keep prices low, not to capitalize as much as possible. The Netherlands system has been used multiple times as a model
for a way for the United States to adopt a universal health care system.
In essence, the American people are pleading for a solution in universal health care. The government acknowledges as a whole that a universal health
system is needed. Health care quality is falling due to lack of competition. There are many different countries that have adopted universal health care
systems. The largest thing standing in our way is the capitalistic mentality that economy has bred. Which is exactly why I think the government needs
to remove the private sector element from

Universal Design Principles
1. What are the primary principles of Universal Design AND how can these be applied to educational contexts? (2 points) Universal Design is the
practice of incorporating the needs of disabled individuals into the buildings, schools, and businesses. The primary principles of Universal Design
are equitable use, flexibility, simplicity, perceptible information, forgiveness of mistakes, decreased physical effort, and space. Some examples of this
practice are ramps, Braille signs, lower desks and tables, and wider hallways. This can be applied in an educational context by making classrooms and
learning spaces accessible to all students. Students with disabilities would be able to focus on their education rather than how they are going to get to...

All individuals must face oppression, stereotypes, and limitations. An example of this in the reading was Jason Kingsley. Jason was born with
down syndrome and has struggled his whole life with society telling him what he is unable to do. When he was born the doctors told his family
that he couldn't learn, form relationships, or carry out a normal life, however in response Jason has proved all this incorrect. He has a job, writes,
makes friends, takes public transportation, and has traveled to other countries. This wasn't always easy since many employers don't always hire
disabled individuals or know how to act around them. I believe that all disabled people struggle with this kind of discrimination however the
obstacles or disabilities people face vary. Disabilities can be caused by genetics, chemical imbalances, traumas, or accidents. They can challenge
learning, senses, mental health, or physical abilities. Another example in the reading was the story of Edward Murphy. Edward developed PTSD
after a bomb exploded when he was deployed in Iraq and struggles with severe anxiety due to this. Unlike Jason, Murphy wasn't born with a disability
but developed it during life. Murphy also has more opportunities to (in a way) reverse his disability or at least reduce the affect that it has in his

In your response to universal health care you got one thing right and one partially correct.
On the right one is I do disagree with you on having universal health care the other was it would raise taxes this is where your not forthcoming, yes it
would raise taxes but most if not all would be offset by not having to pay for health care. Imagine if you can, someone with preexisting conditions not
having to pay for health care? That person could lead a productive life that would benefit everyone including the government by paying more in taxes
again offsetting the cost of universal health care.

Abstract
People today consider America one of the world's greatest countries. Many Americans enjoy a high standard of living compared to many other parts of
the world. Yet somehow the health care system in America ranks number 37 in the world. (The World Health Organization's ranking of the world's
health system) Although the United States is known to be one of the most advanced countries in the entire world, they spend more money on healthcare
than any other country. (Zablit) America does not have universal healthcare coverage. Ultimately, lives are being lost due to proper and affordable
healthcare being out of reach for some citizens.
Without universal healthcare coverage each American is responsible for obtaining their own health insurance. This can be done through their employer
or private insurance companies and the person is responsible for the monthly premium as well as a deductible, co–pay, or other portion of the
healthcare service. The insurance company covers the remaining costs. (Q&A: US healthcare reform)

where NASDAQ and the S&P 500 started to follow a similar pattern again. The reason why NASDAQ behaved significantly different from the

was in a crisis, investors did not trust the stock market at the point and refused to purchase stocks from any industry sectors. As a result, the financial
crisis had a huge influence on all the market indices including NASDAQ. Since 2009, both indices began to recover, but not in the same speed any

In 2007, more than 45 million Americans did not have health care insurance. The United States is the only industrialized nation in the world without
health care, and the debate about changing that has become a popular topic recently. The difference between the two sides is a difference in values;
those for universal health care desire to see the government help others, and those who do not, wish that private companies be allowed to continue
taking advantage of the status quo for profit. In this paper I will argue why the Government should put in place The Universal Healthcare Systems.

Under a universal health care system all would access care. There would be no lines as in other industrialized countries due to the oversupply in our
providers and infrastructure, and willingness/ability of the United States to spend more on health care than industrialized nations.
It would be great if the Govt. could provide complete Universal Health Insurance to all citizens, plus allow the free market to enable those of us who
work for a living to earn/pay for the best doctors and service available. So the question, is should the Government provide free Universal Health
Insurance to all Americans. The answer to this question is "Yes" the government should provide free Universal Health Insurance because:
1.Medical professionals can concentrate on healing the patient rather than insurance procedures and malpractice liability. Doctors have to take classes
now simply to understand all the insurance plans out there; they are often restricted by insurance practices, such as what tests can be ordered. Doctors
must practice defensive medicine to avoid getting sued. Some physicians are even leaving the profession rather than deal with all these non–medical
headaches. A simplified universal health system would allow doctors, nurses, and other medical professions to simply focus on doing what's best for
the patient. Medicine is a complex enough subject as it is. Our current system just adds to an already mentally–draining profession.

Medical costs are getting too expensive. Ever fought with your insurance providers because they refused to pay for care, or struggle to find an
"in–network" provider? I know a woman whose name I will change for her privacy and the struggles she is going through are a perfect example of
an issue many people face when dealing with insurance; Nancy's (name changed for privacy) story is a perfect example of how our healthcare
system is no longer working for the people. Nancy is this woman whose husband recently passed away. Nancy used to work for county and county

The administration of the United States is incompetent and is growing more useless, this is stated when a compare and contrast between the United
States, who does not have universal healthcare, and Canada, who does have universal health care. Canada's healthcare is not too far from the United
States but it does vary with certain things. One of these key things is cost, and administration. (Woolhandler, Himmelstein. 1991) The cost of health
care within the United States has enlarged, Canada's spending has waned. Canada funds the hospitals and doctors with one payer (one lump sum) while
The United States hospitals bills several different insurances (per–patient policy) who vary with policies, qualifications, and certification. Doing this
causes a complex accounting scheme for acquiring payment and further charging insurance and patients. Another reason the administration of
healthcare in the United States is incompetent is due to private insurance, because, the owner profits a percentage of premiums that is much larger that

The United States could implement a universal healthcare program; however, it has yet to be put into effect. The last time it was attempted it was

Universal Health Care in the U.S What would you say when I told you that if you look at a list of the worlds developed industrialized nations that
there is only one developed country in the world that doesn't have a universal healthcare system. Some of the countries on this list include Japan,
Germany, and even Canada. The United States, a global power, our home and the world's largest economy is the only westernized industrial country
without universal healthcare. The amount of people dying due to a lack of medical coverage is at an all–time high, while the U.S also has the most
expensive healthcare system in the world for its citizens. According to Toni Johnson, author of the article "Healthcare Costs and U.S Competiveness"
"The United States spends an estimated $2 trillion annually on healthcare expenses, more than any other industrialized country. According to data from
the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), the United States spends two–and–a–half times more than the OECD average,
and yet ranks with Turkey and Mexico as the only OECD countries without universal health coverage." (Johnson) For a country that spends so much it
seems strange we do not even offer the best health care in the world. It also seems even stranger that there are over 45 million Americans who are
going without health insurance. (Johnson) Universal health care is defined as a basic guarantee of health care to all its

Universal Health Care: The Pros And Cons Of Universal...
Pros and Cons of Universal Healthcare Universal healthcare is an extremely controversial political topic in America today. Democrats love it because
they believe that healthcare is a basic human right and Republicans hate it because it moves us closer to socialism and higher taxes. Universal
healthcare refers to allotting health care to each and every citizen of a country no matter their gender, age, race, or social status. In the paper, I will
discuss the pros and cons of America having universal health care, while also sharing my own opinion on this topic. Pros of universal health care
include increased public health and more opportunities for entrepreneurs. Cons of universal health care include higher taxes and a shortage of jobs in
the medical field (Pros & Cons of Universal Health Care, 2017). I believe that America should steer clear of universal health care because the cons
definitely outweigh the pros. However, no ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These include a tax rise, lower pay for medical professions, a move towards socialism, longer wait lines, and people taking advantage of this
cheaper care. Probably the most popular con of this list is a rise in taxes. No one wants to pay more taxes, even if they know they will gain a good
service from it. The government would have to find a way to pay for this health care system and the main driving force would be the citizens (Pros
& Cons of Universal Health Care, 2017). To add to the problems, universal health care would create a shortage of physicians to care for patients. As
of right now, there are not enough physicians who could meet the demand that would correlate with universal health care (Debellis, 2008). This would
also lead to longer wait lines due to the inability to tend to patients in a reasonable amount of time (Pros & Cons of Universal Health Care, 2017).
Overall, the cons are not very enticing and in my opinion, vastly outweigh the

History and background of Universal Design. Universal design is a term that was created by Ronald L. Mace: a renowned architect, designer, and
educator. The term "Universal Design" expresses "the concept of designing all products and the built environment to be aesthetic and usable to the
greatest extent possible by everyone, regardless of their age, ability, or status in life" (Universal Design – Universal Design). As a strong advocate of
the disabled's rights, Mace became a key player and supporter of the American Disabilities Act. His work in accessible design was influential in the
passage of The American with Disabilities Act, which was passed in 1990 (Universal Design– Universal Design). Universal Design is based on 7 core
principles which are: "equitable use, flexibility in use, simple and intuitive use, perceptible information, tolerance for error, low physical effort, and
size and pace for approach and use " ("The 7 Principles."). These principals promote accessibility, ease of movement, and safety for everyone. The
concept of universal design ensures that every individual will have the ability to work within a space or use a product. Universal design can be
applied to everything from interior design to home products. Applying the seven principals of Universal Design allows designers and builders to
ensure that no matter a person's ability, they will be able to move freely and efficiently use a product.

Universal Health Care System Of Universal Healthcare
Individuals who reside in countries practicing a system of universal health care have access to the health services they require, which, consequently,
leads to overall healthier populations. Such health services include, amongst other things, prevention promotion, treatment, rehabilitation and palliative
care.(who.org) These services are provided without the risk of monetary adversity or destitution for those who use them. Ease of access to health
facilities and care in turn leads to healthier people. Universal health care systems bring the entire populace into contact with good quality services and
health professionals, in addition to medicines and technologies that aid in the diagnosis and treatment of medical problems. In order to meet the urgent
well–being needs of the population, such systems employ a people–centered combined care approach to treatment that incorporates:
Information programs which support healthy lifestyles and avoidance of sickness
early detection of chronic conditions
capability to treat diseases
assistance for patients in convalescence and
provision, where needed, of sympathetic palliative care (who.org)
The ambition of universal health is always to deliver a growing number of health services over time and to guarantee that populations have
opportunities to participate in strategic preventive health programs. In this way, the goal of countries that provide universal health care is to
continually work and strive to maintain healthier

Benefits Of Universal Health Care
Should healthcare be universal to all citizen of a nation? What is Universal health care? According to the World Health organization (WHO) Universal
health coverage (UHC) means that all people and communities can, use the promotive, preventive, curative, rehabilitative and palliative health services
they need, of sufficient quality to be effective, while also ensuring that the use of these services does not expose the user to financial hardship
(Organization, 2013). Universal Health care should be provided to all citizens because of the mass benefit we can receive. Universal Health Care

Universal Design For Learning Within Educational Environments
'Education shall be directed to the full development of the human personality and to the strengthening of respect for human rights... promote
understanding, tolerance and friendship among all...'(The United Nations, 1948). As emphasised by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights,
education is an inalienable right, and until it is proven that a student will not benefit from or is not stimulated by being in school, it must be assumed
that they are gaining some value from the experience. Indoctrinated within Universal Design for Learning (UDL) framework is the need for teachers to
shift from primarily hosting students with additional educational needs, to extensively engaging them in a fruitful education. Under the principles of
Universal Design for Learning, educators venture to create these meaningful learning experiences as a result of employing innovative educational
mechanisms that ensure the participation of everyone. This essay aims to explore the invaluable effect of incorporating the elements of Universal
Design for Learning within educational environments, with specific reference to the English curriculum.

This explanation is somewhat cryptic as it does not lay out exact guidelines for what is fair use, but rather gives the courts a way to determine if
something is fair use in a case by case basis. Simply put, fair use is a doctrine that gives limited permissions to users of a copyrighted material without
the need to acquire permission from the copyright owners. This comes up in a number of cases dealing with these types of media. Sony (1984) is a very
important case in dealing with this topic of Fair Use. In 1975 Sony developed a new consumer grade analog–recording and cassette format of magnetic
tape. This tape could be used to perform an act known as "time–shifting." Time–shifting, in terms of video, is when someone records a live program on
to any sort of storage device so that it can be viewed at a later point in time. Therefore, time–shifting could be utilized to perform illegal activities such
as making copies of a film and selling them to others. This is what prompted Universal City Studios to file a suit against Sony. The Court

The Universal Healthcare System
The health care system in the United States is one of the greatest concerns facing Americans today and is an issue both moral and economic in nature.
Some think the system should stay, for all intents and purposes, the same. They believe that the right to healthcare is a stepping stone toward socialism,
and that it is the responsibility of the individual to obtain health care. These are usually the more ideologically conservative citizens and politicians who
believe that medicine should remain a free enterprise, not to be constrained by government interference. Then there are those who believe that
healthcare is a right, and the federal government has a responsibility to make sure it is available to all citizens, not just those who can afford ... Show

While some argue that a switch to universal healthcare will cost up to $1.5trillion,4 there are other factors at play that influence the economy. Most
Americans have health insurance through their employer which causes a huge financial strain on that employer, which is in turn reflected in product
and service prices. If the price of goods and services goes up, that could end up hurting the United States' global competitiveness. Citizens are
unwilling to leave their current employer and possibly start their own business for fear of not being able to afford health insurance on their own.5
Some of those would–be entrepreneurs could create the next big product that becomes a critical part of the national economy. On average, the typical
family of four in America pays over $20,000 annually on health insurance,7 money that could be pushed back into the economy. This is all in addition
to the societal costs caused by the lack of universal health care such as fewer years in the workforce, caused by poor health, and higher cost to public
programs like Medicare and the criminal justice system.5 If someone is uninsured until they reach the appropriate age to enroll in Medicare, they could
have pre–existing, otherwise preventable conditions that will end up costing more money than it would have to treat them in the first place. In 2005,
economist Dr. Kenneth Thorpe published a report in which he calculated the overall

In 2007, more than 45 million Americans did not have health care insurance. The United States is the only industrialized major nation in the world

difference in ethical values; those for universal health care desire to see the government help others, mainly the lower class, and those who do not, wish
that private companies be allowed to continue taking advantage of the status quo for profit. In this paper, I will argue why the Government should put

Private insurance companies can inflate the price of their service if they desire. A universal healthcare system prevents that because it is run by the
government.[2]
I personally understand health care cost, and spending is a major concern for our society. Many governments around the world have established
all–embracing health care, which takes the burden of health care expenses off of private businesses or individuals through pooling of financial
possibility. There are tons of arguments for universal health care, and related health care practices. Health care is an important part of health systems,
and therefore, it often accounts for one of the largest areas of high spending for both governments and individuals all over the world. For example,
medical debt is now a leading cause of personal bankruptcy in the United States. A policy should be created to help lower the cost of health care.2
One way that would help improve health care spending is to create a universal health care to make sure everyone is covered. By creating this, it will
help decrease the number of lobbyers which in turn will cut government funding to those special–interest groups. There are 45 million Americans
uninsured and according to CNN report, 45,000 Americans die each year due to lack of affordable health care. So by creating a universal health care
system, we can be sure to expect to see a longer lifespan for our population as is the case in countries that

Universal Healthcare Socialist
Does giving universal healthcare to its citizens make a country socialist? The answer is no. why I am answering this question is that, this question is
the one of the main arguments against universal healthcare in America. Even though universal healthcare is a characteristic of most socialist
governments there are governments that are not socialist but have universal health care for example Australia, United Kingdom and so on and so forth.
Universal healthcare is a good idea because of its many benefits and simplicity.
The origins of healthcare in the United States can be traced back to the 1900's, the heart of the progressive era (Health Insurance), and from that time
period itself it has been met with some serious opposition. The First time it was brought up the universal health care reform got struck down because

To them I simply respond by saying universal healthcare can be implemented in many ways and has been implemented in many different European
countries. Most of these countries now have a healthcare system that is far less complex than America's healthcare system. Those against universal
health care may argue that by taking away the choice of choosing healthcare providers people are essentially losing a right. To that statement I
respond by saying this government has a duty to protect the welfare of its citizens and healthcare falls under the welfare of people so let the
government do its job and don't be an obstacle for progress. My opponents on this issue may argue that healthcare is a privilege and not a right. To
them I ask this question if it is not a right then why do so many other developed nations have universal healthcare? America is probably the only
developed country that still doesn't have a universal healthcare system that shows that universal healthcare should be a right in developed countries not a

Ha from Inside Out and Back Again and other refugees from the article "Children of War" all experience the same upsettingfeeling of being inside out
because they have lost everything familiar to them. One way that they feel inside out because of the loss of their possessions is in the poem "Last

through a struggle when she gives up her doll, the one possession that she was allowed to take with her as they were leaving, to help her brother and

Essay On Universal Healthcare
Universal healthcare is a topic that has been discussed and argued for many years. Some believe that everyone is entitled to healthcare whereas other
think that individuals have the option to choose whether they want it or not. Now that the Affordable Care Act has been put into place the pros and
cons of everyone being required to have insurance is becoming more evident. I firmly believe that all U.S. citizens should have health insurance. I think
the positives outweigh the negatives in numerous ways especially from the perspective of socio–economic status.
Requiring all citizens in the United States to sign up for healthcare will be beneficial in several ways. A major change could be a decrease in the
amount of medical bankruptcies that occur. Due to the high cost of medical bills in America, many people have trouble keeping up with payments
and get into financial trouble. According to a medical study conducted with the Kaiser family, "62% of personal bankruptcies in 2007 were caused by
medical bills ()." This poses an even more serious problem with those who have a low socio–economic status. Compared to the wealthy, people with

Individuals who are not insured are more likely to not go to the doctor when needed than those who are because they do not want to be billed. They

as many as 44,789 deaths per year (Andrew P. Wilper, 2009)." Requiring each citizen to have health care can decrease this number by insuring that
everyone can go to the doctor when they need rather than waiting. This will also increase preventative health by allowing people to go for annual

Canadian Universal Healthcare

  • 1. Canadian Universal Healthcare Comparison Presentation Assignment: 5| Health Economics, HSA 510, Dr. Lewis Mustard| Kristie Parker, December 19, 2012| 1. Select three to four main aspects that you discovered in your research to highlight. The first thing that I would like to highlight in my research of Canadian universal healthcare vs. US healthcare is that Canadian health care is federally funded and covers mostly all of the medical services used by the residents. The US has healthcare for the people but is covered at the citizens' expense via an insurance company. The citizens are responsible for maintaining the premiums set by the insurance companies via the employer of the citizens or privately attained. However, this could explain why nearly 50 ... Comprehensiveness: All necessary health services including hospitals, physicians, surgical dentists, must be insured. C. Universality: All insured residents are entitled to the same level of health care. D. Portability: Even if the residents move to a different province or territory, they are still entitled to coverage from their home province during a minimum waiting period. E. Accessibility: All insured persons have reasonable access to health care facilities. **Retrieved from http://www.canadian–healthcare.org/. 2. Synthesize your findings. To synthesize my findings would be to look at the current "Obamacare" that has been adopted into our government to help with the 50 million plus Americans that are without health insurance now. The Health Care Act shows that "Obamacare" is individually mandated, penalty for not buying insurance is $695 minimum, and the employer is mandated for companies with over fifty employees. A $750 per employee for companies over 50 employees for penalties of employers not providing insurance; subsized insurance for anyone earning up to 400% of poverty level; children can stay on parents' plan until age 26; and these benefits are both annual and lifetime basis, retroactive rescinding of coverage is forbidden; pre–existing conditions that insurers are required ... • 2. A Theory Of Ontology And A Position On The Problem Of... To understanding how we use language to describe the world, we need theories to describe and explain our reality. The title quote is taken from Willard Van Orman Quine's, "On What There Is", in which he presents a theory of ontology and a position on the problem of universals. The problem of universals questions the existence of universals. Universals are properties and relations which are held in common by shared qualities. In comparison, particulars are concrete entities. The debate is centred around two opposing viewpoints – nominalist and realists. Realists believe in universals, nominalists do not. While realists endorse both universals and particulars, nominalists reject the notion of universals and only accept the existence of particulars. Consequently, there is disagreement among philosophers whether universals exist. Discussion of the titled quote follows an examination of the One Over Many argument which leads to the problem of universals. In this essay, I show that I agree with the title statement and will argue in favour of a nominalist account of universals. I will focus primarily on Quine's argument for nominalist semantics. This argument will be presented by questioning the universal 'redness' and the role of meanings. In examining arguments made by Armstrong and subsequently presenting a response to these critiques via the analysis of Devitt, I will also discuss the infinite regress problem and the validity of the One Over Many argument. My conclusion will be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Universal Healthcare in America The United States having universal healthcare Michelle Garbarino Eng 122 James Meetze February. 25, 2013 Should the United States have Universal Healthcare? The question of Universal Healthcare in the United States has valid and non valid arguments with supporters on both sides of the issue. Millions of Americans do not have affordable health care insurance. The main question is who is responsible to provide this? Is it feasible for government to pay for the lack of health care by taxpayer's dollars? Should you be responsible for yourselves or should you be compensated by the government? Unemployment is at record high making health insurance less attainable or affordable than ever. In most cases, additional restrictions or... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Healthcare should be a right for all U.S. citizens because not only would it drastically lower costs from the current healthcare system for both the individual and the government, but also greatly improve healthcare rankings and satisfy the majority of the population. By expanding coverage to all U.S. citizens, universal healthcare would significantly lower healthcare costs for both the individual and the government. Without a doubt, something should be done to fix the current healthcare system; it is just a matter of what should be done. Over the past several years, the cost of healthcare in the U.S. has risen significantly and does not seem to lower, surpassing "$2.2 trillion in 2007". Universal Health Care is a "Social Program", not "socialized medicine"; under Universal Health Care, one can choose any doctor(s) or public hospital (A "private" hospital, even in the U.S.A. today, is just that. A hospital that is exclusive to the general population according to the wealth and contacts of an individual. There is no "out of network" doctor, hospital or medical facility in the program. However, the same lack of restrictions applies. In any case, approximately 85% of the populations having Universal Health Care are very happy with the system. A much, much higher percentage ... • 4. Universal Healthcare Essay Introduction Universal Healthcare is a system under which basic health needs can be paid by a single government payer. Basic health care needs include treatment for urgent, emergent, preventative, reconstructive, routine, and chronic care. The United States is the only wealthy and industrialized country that does not universal health care, however, does have a publicly funded government health care program for the elderly, disabled, military service, and veterans. Programs like these only cover one quarter of the U.S. population. Universal healthcare can be thought as similar to a single–pay health care system. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore, many of these people who are uninsured "delay" treatment until it is absolutely necessary for them to see a doctor (Universal Health Care). By this time most of these patients have reached a point in their sickness where there is far more treatment needed, and therefore, costs more money. Consequently, this has an effect of places who are established to help the uninsured since they take in so many losses many of these establishments are forced to cut back on services or even be forced to shut down (Universal Health Care). To look at it in simple terms, Universal Health care would give everyone a right to carry some form of health coverage. As people who pay taxes, they would be getting coverage for things important in their life. This includes health care. These people would be able to be covered for "preventive care, pregnancy and childbirth, acute, chronic and catastrophic conditions, rehabilitation and end–of–life care" with no bearing on their economic condition (Howard, 2007, p. B.7). Benefits of Universal Health Care Implementing a universal health care system would not necessarily force everyone to fall into the realm of having no options. One argue that by putting Universal Health Care into practice here in the united states, Americans would be covered and for those who didn't like the system would be allowed to choose other health care alternatives ... • 5. Universal Health Care : Universal Healthcare Universal Healthcare in the USA The campaign for some form of universal health care has spanned practically a century in the USA and has been the subject of political debate since the early part of the 20th century. Recent reforms remain an active and urgent political issue. Universal Health Care has been one of the leading public issues in America and in recent times this issue has risen to the fore, because of its increasing prevalence in the government, market, and civil sectors. In this essay, I will be looking at why this issue can and does affect everyone, no matter which sectors we look at. I will be taking an in–depth look at the many reasons why this public issue is worth caring about and why it is such a hotly contested subject in today's politics, jobs, and even our homes. This is an incredibly important issue that should concern us all, but before we can start working on how to make this public issue better, we must first understand why it is a public issue. To begin, let us start by breaking down each section of the public issue triangle, we will do this by being with one of the most well–known and influential sectors, that is the American Government. Who should get health care? How should we pay for it? Do we have a responsibility to ensure all our citizens get the same level, health care, regardless of their station in life? These are all questions that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Universal Health Coverage U.S Should Implement Universal Health Coverage Why do people remain uninsured? According to the Kaiser Family Foundation (KFF), "Even under the Affordable Care Act (ACA), many uninsured people cite the high cost of insurance as the main reason they lack coverage"(Key Facts) "In 2015, 46% of uninsured adults said that they tried to get coverage but did not because it was too expensive"(Key Facts). Many people do not have access to coverage through a job, and some people, particularly poor adults in states that did not expand Medicaid, remain ineligible for financial assistance for coverage. Some people who are eligible for financial assistance under the ACA may not know they can get help, and others may still find the cost of coverage too expensive.... • 7. Against Universal Health Care Universal health care is a program where every one in the country has medical coverage for surgery, illness, and treatments that would cause problems with your health. The United States is currently the only industrialized country that has no universal health care. Universal health care is a controversial topic because people don't know if they want it here in the United States. Some reasons why people might want it is because it gives everyone coverage as long as you are a citizen of that country. A reason why you would not want a universal system is because the coverage you get may not cover certain operations. Although universal health care may sound appealing, it actually has flaws. Universal Health Care should not be considered in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Every patients main concern when going to a hospital is to get a surgery to fix a problem that they have, or to receive prescriptions for illnesses and diseases. But a factor most probably are not worried about when they go to a hospital is how they are being treated. Doctors already have a difficult task to perform, but overcrowding the hospitals will cause them to be busy and possibly conduct their job with out the amount of care that is required. Giving out prescriptions in a hospital could also be effected. Patients vital medicine could be mixed up with someone else's and cause even more harm. The wait time in a hospital for an operation is also effected by over population. In the United States there is already about a 2 hour wait time in each hospital that you go to (Mortal Peril). Adding a universal health care system would only cause that time to increase. There are some cases where the operation cannot be delayed because of excessive bleeding or a lady about to give birth. Both of these examples need to be treated within a certain amount of time or the patient could possibly die. • 8. The Universal Theme Of Power In Olemet's Play Oleanna Through italics, capitalization, and length of discourse per character, Mamet's play Oleanna develops the universal idea of power as a constant struggle amplified by gender tension and the human tendency to crave power. Mamet uses length of speech and interruptions to demonstrate that people become desperate when powerless and will do anything to regain power. The play begins with a long monologue by John. He talks on the phone and completely ignores Carol, because she holds little power in the relationship of professor and student. John is enveloped in his own world and pays no attention to Carol. The phone is a symbol of power for John and he uses it to interrupt Carol and belittles her perspective. Near the end of Act One, Carol seems like she is gathering the courage to tell John a secret about her life that she has never told anyone before, but the phone interrupts: "'All of my life...' (The phone rings.)... (JOHN goes to the phone and picks it up)" and he continues to argue on the phone for an entire page (Mamet 38). Carol is powerless and therefore insignificant, so John ignores her and worries about his house. Power is a finite resource; consequently, people compete for the limited power. Mamet uses interruptions and length of dialogue to express who is in control. Carol has gained the upper hand as Act Three begins. John attempts to lecture Carol like he has done in all the previous acts, however, Carol interjects: CAROL: I was most surprised you asked me. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Universal Health Care Universal Health Care is defined as the belief that all citizens should have access to affordable, high–quality medical care (Anderson, 2013). Currently there are 46 million that do not have health coverage in the United states and this would drastically increase to 72 million if a health reform was not passed (The Economic Case for Health Care Reform, 2012)Why the United States is the last to adopt this government mandated insurance coverage, is possibly one of the most widely asked question around the nation. This, however; is all in the process of changing and will be completed by 2014 with the passing and implantation of Obama–care. There are three systems or levels of coverage under Universal Health Care; Single Payer, Two–Tier, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Even though this has already taken effect and some people have already seen some changes, there are still many more changes to be made before the US starts to see a difference in not once the number of people covered but the deficit as well. This year, (2013) people and small business can start to purchase their insurance during a set open enrolment time frame but the tax credit will not become available until 2014. You will only receive this credit if you your income is between 100% and 400% under the poverty level. The Congressional Budget office believes that this plan will lower future deficits and the future Medicare spending (Carney, 2012). In 2011 the payout for Medicare and Medicaid was over 900 billion dollars (Is Medicare Spending the Biggest Driver of the Deficit, 2012). The Current system in the United States denies access to health care based on the person's ability to pay for the coverage before services are required. Under a universal health care system all would have access to the affordable medical care and in some cases be reimbursed some of the cost Carney, Timothy P. (2009). • 11. Universal Governmental Programs : Universal And Targeted... In today's society, two types of major governmental programs – universal and targeted –are used all over the world in aims to reduce poverty and help the poor get above the poverty line. Universal governmental programs are programs that give need and benefits to anyone in the country no matter how much wealth or income they have. Countries like, Canada, United Kingdom, Germany and Sweden have a universal health care system, where everyone receives free healthcare. Targeted, also known as means–tested programs are programs that are only given to families and individuals that fall below a certain income level. The United States uses the targeted governmental programs for all forms of benefits. The largest targeted governmental program seen in the United States is the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), also known as food stamps. In order to qualify for SNAP families must fall below a certain income level and must demonstrate a need for assistance. In recent times, universal governmental programs have received most of the support over targeted programs for many reasons. Of the two governmental programs, universal benefits are more widely accepted among citizens than targeted (Nelson, 2004). These methods are both used to reduce poverty and income inequality. A., & Brodwin, M. G, 2015). There are so many different approaches that a teacher can use in the classroom involving universal design. As a special education teacher I need to be open to new ideas on how to teach my students. I will have students with a wide range of disabilities from mild to moderate to severe. Incorporating universal design in my lessons and within my classroom is just one practice that will help my students. Universal design opens up the doors to so many new ideas that can be used in the classroom to help adapt lessons for my students. They are held by the individual person and protect them from other people and/or collectives (Bell,1999). Human rights instruments found today are also compared to those in religions and ancient civilisations that have contributed towards the understanding of human dignity (James, 2007). Even though countries of the world have adopted these crucial rights that are universal, it does not mean they can continue to agree on a much wider range of rights to universally adopt. However, this also does not prohibit the possibility of this happening. On the other hand, just because all countries agreed to these rights, human rights violations still occur off the record and while institutions such as 'Amnesty International' and 'Human Rights Watch' try to expose these instance of abuse, this does not stop the situation occur, leaving these rights not actually universal at all because not everyone's rights are respected (Bell, 1999). Author Charles Taylor, thinks that the 'thin' list of current universal rights should be expanded. He thinks participants in a cross–cultural dialogue should remain impartial to try a reconcile differences and allow for more agreed up universal rights to be established (Bell, 1999). If this was to occur, then this would allow for the possibility for completely universal human rights to be established as people from different cultures with different views and ideologies would be able to come to some sort of agreement on what these rights should be. A highly debated topic in the United States, should health care be a universal government funded system, or remain privatized? Our country has been raised using capitalistic values, favoring privatization over socialism. But has our health care system fallen by the way–side, and become a sub–standard system in the world? Beginning around 1940, the Dutch government has been working towards implementing a universal health care system in three stages. The first stage was to "promote the public health system, and guarantee a minimum level of quality. Coverage included physician services, prescription drugs, hospitalization (365 days), maternity care, dental care for children, some paramedical care, and some medical devices" The second stage was cost containment. In the late 1960's, the Dutch government became worried about the uncontrolled growth of health care spending. In 1983, the government decided to replace the open–ended hospital reimbursement system with a budgeting system. The Health Care Prices Act (1982) enabled the government to control physicians' fees and, in a later stage their total revenues. The third stage was efficiently managing competition, in 1987; a committee proposed a market–oriented health care reform and a national health insurance system. This made the private insurance companies focus on incentives, and competition to keep prices low, not to capitalize as much as possible. The Netherlands system has been used multiple times as a model for a way for the United States to adopt a universal health care system. In essence, the American people are pleading for a solution in universal health care. The government acknowledges as a whole that a universal health system is needed. Since then, the NASDAQ plummeted back quickly and finally stopped falling in 2002 where NASDAQ and the S&P 500 started to follow a similar pattern again. The reason why NASDAQ behaved significantly different from the S&P 500 was that NASDAQ focused on technology companies that crashed after the Internet boom, whereas the S&P 500 took care of major stocks from all industries and sectors and represented a more comprehensive performance of the market. Every health care plans would have the same benefits and networks. These proposals could actually resolve all the major problems that have overwhelmed the nation for now a long time ... • 32. Universal City Studios Vs Sony Streaming is a major part of today's culture. Many individuals and families are cutting the cords and getting rid of traditional television for streaming services such as Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon ("Cord Cutting Accelerates," 2016). (Sony, 1984, p. 462) This explanation is somewhat cryptic as it does not lay out exact guidelines for what is fair use, but rather gives the courts a way to determine if something is fair use in a case by case basis. Simply put, fair use is a doctrine that gives limited permissions to users of a copyrighted material without the need to acquire permission from the copyright owners. This comes up in a number of cases dealing with these types of media. Sony (1984) is a very important case in dealing with this topic of Fair Use. In 1975 Sony developed a new consumer grade analog–recording and cassette format of magnetic tape. This tape could be used to perform an act known as "time–shifting." Time–shifting, in terms of video, is when someone records a live program on to any sort of storage device so that it can be viewed at a later point in time. Therefore, time–shifting could be utilized to perform illegal activities such as making copies of a film and selling them to others. This is what prompted Universal City Studios to file a suit against Sony. The Court ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. The Universal Healthcare System The health care system in the United States is one of the greatest concerns facing Americans today and is an issue both moral and economic in nature. Some think the system should stay, for all intents and purposes, the same. They believe that the right to healthcare is a stepping stone toward socialism, and that it is the responsibility of the individual to obtain health care. These are usually the more ideologically conservative citizens and politicians who believe that medicine should remain a free enterprise, not to be constrained by government interference. Then there are those who believe that healthcare is a right, and the federal government has a responsibility to make sure it is available to all citizens, not just those who can afford ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While some argue that a switch to universal healthcare will cost up to $1.5trillion,4 there are other factors at play that influence the economy. Most Americans have health insurance through their employer which causes a huge financial strain on that employer, which is in turn reflected in product and service prices. If the price of goods and services goes up, that could end up hurting the United States' global competitiveness. Citizens are unwilling to leave their current employer and possibly start their own business for fear of not being able to afford health insurance on their own.5 Some of those would–be entrepreneurs could create the next big product that becomes a critical part of the national economy. On average, the typical family of four in America pays over $20,000 annually on health insurance,7 money that could be pushed back into the economy. This is all in addition to the societal costs caused by the lack of universal health care such as fewer years in the workforce, caused by poor health, and higher cost to public programs like Medicare and the criminal justice system.5 If someone is uninsured until they reach the appropriate age to enroll in Medicare, they could have pre–existing, otherwise preventable conditions that will end up costing more money than it would have to treat them in the first place. • 34. Universal Health Care In 2007, more than 45 million Americans did not have health care insurance. The United States is the only industrialized major nation in the world without health care, and the debate about changing that has become a popular issue recently. The sharp difference between the two sides is a difference in ethical values; those for universal health care desire to see the government help others, mainly the lower class, and those who do not, wish that private companies be allowed to continue taking advantage of the status quo for profit. In this paper, I will argue why the Government should put in place The Universal Healthcare Systems.[1] Chapter 1 I think as a US ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Private insurance companies can inflate the price of their service if they desire. A universal healthcare system prevents that because it is run by the government.[2] I personally understand health care cost, and spending is a major concern for our society. Many governments around the world have established all–embracing health care, which takes the burden of health care expenses off of private businesses or individuals through pooling of financial possibility. There are tons of arguments for universal health care, and related health care practices. Health care is an important part of health systems, and therefore, it often accounts for one of the largest areas of high spending for both governments and individuals all over the world. For example, medical debt is now a leading cause of personal bankruptcy in the United States. A policy should be created to help lower the cost of health care.2 One way that would help improve health care spending is to create a universal health care to make sure everyone is covered. By creating this, it will help decrease the number of lobbyers which in turn will cut government funding to those special–interest groups. There are 45 million Americans uninsured and according to CNN report, 45,000 Americans die each year due to lack of affordable health care. So by creating a universal health care system, we can be sure to expect to see a longer lifespan for our population as is the case in countries that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 36. Universal Healthcare Socialist Does giving universal healthcare to its citizens make a country socialist? The answer is no. why I am answering this question is that, this question is the one of the main arguments against universal healthcare in America. Even though universal healthcare is a characteristic of most socialist governments there are governments that are not socialist but have universal health care for example Australia, United Kingdom and so on and so forth. Universal healthcare is a good idea because of its many benefits and simplicity. The origins of healthcare in the United States can be traced back to the 1900's, the heart of the progressive era (Health Insurance), and from that time period itself it has been met with some serious opposition. The First time it was brought up the universal health care reform got struck down because Germany had adopted a successful universal healthcare plan ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To them I simply respond by saying universal healthcare can be implemented in many ways and has been implemented in many different European countries. Most of these countries now have a healthcare system that is far less complex than America's healthcare system. Those against universal health care may argue that by taking away the choice of choosing healthcare providers people are essentially losing a right. To that statement I respond by saying this government has a duty to protect the welfare of its citizens and healthcare falls under the welfare of people so let the government do its job and don't be an obstacle for progress. My opponents on this issue may argue that healthcare is a privilege and not a right. To them I ask this question if it is not a right then why do so many other developed nations have universal healthcare? America is probably the only developed country that still doesn't have a universal healthcare system that shows that universal healthcare should be a right in developed countries not a ... The Universal Refugee Experience This essay is about the universal refugee experience and the hardships that they have to go through on their journey. Ha from Inside Out and Back Again and other refugees from the article "Children of War" all struggle with the unsettling feeling of being inside out because they no longer own the things that mean the most to them. Ha and the other refugees all encounter similar curiosities of overcoming the finding of that back again peaceful consciousness in the "new world" that they are living in . Ha from Inside Out and Back Again and other refugees from the article "Children of War" all experience the same upsettingfeeling of being inside out because they have lost everything familiar to them. One way that they feel inside out because of the loss of their possessions is in the poem "Last Respects" it states, "Brother Khoi nods and I smile, but I regret not having my doll as soon as the white bundle sinks into the sea." (Lai 86). Ha goes through a struggle when she gives up her doll, the one possession that she was allowed to take with her as they were leaving, to help her brother and give him comfort for the loss his chick. Another way that represents the universal refugee experience of feeling inside out because of loosing everything is that in "Children of War" it explains, "Everything completely changed. One minute we had everything, then we had nothing." (Brice). Plainly it is stated that the people in the Bosnia at that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Essay On Universal Healthcare Universal healthcare is a topic that has been discussed and argued for many years. Some believe that everyone is entitled to healthcare whereas other think that individuals have the option to choose whether they want it or not. Now that the Affordable Care Act has been put into place the pros and cons of everyone being required to have insurance is becoming more evident. I firmly believe that all U.S. citizens should have health insurance. I think the positives outweigh the negatives in numerous ways especially from the perspective of socio–economic status. Requiring all citizens in the United States to sign up for healthcare will be beneficial in several ways. A major change could be a decrease in the amount of medical bankruptcies that occur. Due to the high cost of medical bills in America, many people have trouble keeping up with payments and get into financial trouble. According to a medical study conducted with the Kaiser family, "62% of personal bankruptcies in 2007 were caused by medical bills ()." This poses an even more serious problem with those who have a low socio–economic status. Compared to the wealthy, people with low income pay more for health care and get lower value insurance plans (Rudiger, 2015). If everyone had medical coverage this problem ... Universal Pictures is owned by Comcast, through their subsidiary NBCUniversal. Prior to the contemporary state of affairs Universal Pictures was founded in 1912 as the Universal Film Manufacturing Company. Over the century thus far the company has produced quite a few movies that will go down as classics, and countless more that were major box office success stories ("About"). This campaign was originally run in Brazil, starting out in Sao Paolo, however the internet has made it widely available to the public. The content of the image is undoubtedly an attempt to garner the attention of not just the intended audience, but anyone who may happen to glance at it. The image exhibits a dismembered finger, still grotesquely covered in blood, with the likely intent of instilling a feeling of disgust. There is some accompanying text to the advertisement as well, "Stop Destroying the band you like. Say no to music piracy" (Image 2). The only support provided to give some sort of credibility and legitimacy to the image is the Universal logo add following the text.
