It also describes changes made to different interest areas based on children's interests in investigation of what's in the classroom. *Children are asked who would like to participate weekly and are not assigned certain weeks to participate. Groups are done during Free Play in the Interest areas.
These are the Changes to Interest area Based on Children’s Interests/Study:
Writing (V): Letter puzzles
to enhance awareness of
letters. Magnetic Writing
board to work on grip of
writing utensils.
Discovery (M): Light table turned on with
translucent building bricks. Ask the children
- What does translucent mean? What else
is translucent?
Library (K): Books about back to school and
emotions, all about me, and friendship to read
alone or with friends and teachers.
Large Muscle/Outside (M/V): Explain the rules and
routines of the playground, where things go, the
bell routine, etc.
Art (E): Various materials
will be out that we can
compile together to make a
classroom art quilt
together.
Table Toys (K): Ginger Bread Cookie cutters
with buttons and beads for the play dough.
Also, we will put out Fall Fun Lace/Trace,
Apple Seed dominos, and Measuring Motor
to work on increasing fine motor skills.
Technology (M): Letter formation Link-to-learn
game on smart board, where children match
and trace letters with their fingers.
Classroom rules / routines (V/M):
Go over mealtime routines at the table, one scoop
and pass, ask for seconds, be patient, etc.
Sensory table (E): Water
beads (Mon, Tues), Rice and
buttons (Wed-Fri)
blocks (R/L): Large Lego blocks, pictures of
places around town added to the blocks,
Music (R/L): Brain Boogie Boosters CD to sign
and move to as well as the I love you Rituals
Cube with various rituals they can do together.
Dramatic Play (V): Play kitchen/house, stove,
fridge, sink, dishes and food items. Making soup
and hot cocoa, outside is a favorite activity, many
kids asked to play kitchen inside too.
What needs extra attention/ schedule changes this week: Making sure children that come in late still do the commitment in the mornings.
